Prologue: Don Quixote is a landed nobleman from La Mancha, who believes he is a heroic knight, just like one of those from his favourite novels. He is determined to win the heart of Dulcinea, a chief figure of the narrative. He chooses his neighbour, Sancho Panza, to be his squire, and travels forth with him into the wide world. Act I: In Barcelona, the innkeeper’s daughter Kitri and the barber Basil are planning their wedding. Kitri’s father Lorenzo is not enthusiastic about this. He wants to match Kitri with old Gamache, but Kitri rigorously refuses such a pairing. Don Quixote and Sancho Panza finish the dispute and leave for Lorenzo‘s hostel. Kitri and Basil run away together. Act II: The lovers take shelter in a windmill where they fall into the hands of gypsies. They leave the obviously destitute pair alone, and prefer to lie in wait for Lorenzo and Gamache instead, who have discovered the fugitive’s hiding-place. Don Quixote and Sancho Panza also appear. The gypsies try to help Kitri and Basil by performing a puppet theatre for Don Quixote. Suddenly, he stands in front of the windmill, which he considers to be a giant, and goes into the attack. However, he is struck by one of the windmill blades, which robs him of his senses. As Kitri and Basil have the chance to flee once again, Don Quixote dreams of a magical garden where the Dryad’s queen leads him to his Dulcinea. But this dream is quickly over. Act III: Kitri and Basil celebrate their supposedly successful escape in an inn when suddenly Lorenzo, Gamache, Don Quixote, and Sancho Panza appear. Desperately, Basil pretends to kill himself. Don Quixote persuades Lorenzo to give his blessing to Kitri and the seemingly doomed Basil. The trick succeeds and Basil awakens to a new life. The furious Gamache then asks Don Quixote to a duel, which Gamache loses. During the wedding Don Quixote and Sancho Panza take to the road again.

A century to the day after the orchestra’s first concert on 24th October 1919, the centennial season culminates in a fantastic gala night at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with the current and former chief conductors Dudamel, Mehta and Salonen sharing the podium. The repertoire is a true reflection of the DNA that makes the LA Phil the LA Phil. The anniversary gala opens with a performance of Richard Wagner’s overture to "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" under the direction of Zubin Mehta and clearly illustrates the unleashed potential of this ensemble of first-class musicians combined with the excellent acoustics of the auditorium. No less impressive is the rendition of Maurice Ravel’s "La Valse", which Mehta also conducts. This is followed by Witold Lutosławski’s Symphony No. 4 (a work commissioned by the LA Philharmonic in 1992), which is conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Igor Stravinsky’s "Firebird Suite" under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, who has been the principal conductor of the orchestra since 2009. The highlight of the gala was without doubt the premiere of the LA Philharmonic commission "From Space I saw Earth" by the Icelandic contemporary composer Daníel Bjarnason.

In master storyteller Graeme Murphy's hands, the world's favourite ballet becomes a witty, dramatic and ultimately devastating story of love and betrayal. It's a familiar tale – a love triangle between a princess, her prince, and a woman with a prior claim on his heart. Murphy's choreography is at once a homage to the grandeur of 19th century classicism and an invigorating update that speaks compellingly to the audiences of today. At the centre of this brilliantly danced work is a trio of performances by principle artists Madeleine Eastoe, Robert Curran and Danielle Rowe, that has been acclaimed around Australia and the world. Tchaikovsky's peerless score, and the extraordinary settings and costumes of Kristian Fredrikson, finish off a production that according to Le Figaro "puts fire into the Lake."

In October 1987 after many months on the road, it was in the elevated surroundings of the hillside open air theatre at Lycabettus overlooking Athens that the So Tour came to a climatic close. The three nights were filmed in what was the first-ever Peter Gabriel concert to be committed to film. The viewer is placed right in the heart of the action all the way, from the band’s synchronised choreography on opening number This Is The Picture right through to the skin-pricking closer Biko. In between, we’re lost in music, spellbound by the spectacle, totally absorbed by the imperfection-free tightness of a band that’s been on the road for so long.

Inni is Sigur Rós' second live film following 2007's tour documentary Heima. Whereas that film positioned the group in the context of their Icelandic homeland, providing geographical, social and historical perspectives on their music, Inni focuses purely on the band's performance, and stands as a stark counterpoint to Heima's kaleidoscopic richness. Where Heima was lush and colorfully expansive, Inni is spare and near-monochromatic in its tunnel vision. Filmed in a manner that invites both intimacy and claustrophobia, Inni cocoons the viewer in a one-on-one relationship with the band, eschewing the audience for closeness, depicting how it feels for both band and fan to experience Sigur Rós live.

The passage of time is the key theme throughout with moments reflecting back on global dilemmas of war, protest, greed, and natural disasters that echo Jimmy’s state of mind. While the loss of Keith Moon and John Entwistle is felt, they are celebrated during key moments as the original line-up is reunited on stage, bringing each of Jimmy’s four personalities back together. iTunes Extras features six bonus performance of The Who cranking out classic songs like "Who Are You," "You Better You Bet," "Tea & Theatre," "Pinball Wizard," "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again."

Rush

Genre: Concert Films

Price: $ 19.99

Release Date: January 1, 2015

All roads have led to this. Forty-one years in the making, the R40 Live tour took a very real journey back through time. Beginning with the grand design: a state-of-the-art stage set that pivots, rolls and dives, and brings Clockwork Angels in to bombastic, colorful life before marching stridently back in time (through theatre stages, a panoply of band and fan shots, the accrued memories of a life spent playing live) to a mocked-up school gym and the band playing there; a solitary bass amp set on the chair behind Geddy Lee, a mirror ball spiraling crazily above, casting thin rods of light like a light rain across the crowd, “Working Man” coming to a shuddering halt as the band’s beginning becomes their end. Rush recorded and filmed R40 Live over two sold-out shows in the band’s hometown of Toronto at the Air Canada Centre on June 17 & 19, 2015 in the middle of their R40 Live 35-date North American tour. R40 Live had the trio of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart, performing a career-spanning live retrospective, celebrating their 40+ years together. The epic live shows by the Rock Hall of Famers were captured with 14 cameras to present the band feature-film style. The center-point of this tour was the remarkable setlist, coupled with their idea of a “de-evolution” set design. When the band opened the show with cuts “Headlong Flight” and “The Anarchist” from their most recent studio recording, 2012’s Clockwork Angels, they did so with all the bells and whistles from that extensive tour. They worked backwards through their catalogue as the show progressed, the innovative set design making for constant visual eye-candy, as stagehands exchanged the gear and props on stage to resemble the era-correct tour staging in accordance with the songs being played. The first set featured the infamous dryers on stage while they played “Roll The Bones,” “Subdivisions,” and for the first time ever live, “Losing It” featuring violinist Ben Mink, who appeared on the original studio recording from 1982’s Signals. The second set opened with classics “Tom Sawyer,” followed by crowd favorite, “The Spirit of Radio,” but also included “Jacob’s Ladder,” which hasn’t been performed live since 1980 on their Permanent Waves tour. The last few songs of the R40 were set against the persimmon curtained theatre-looking stage, with the crowd raising their lighters and camera phones to “Closer to the Heart,” and then Alex and Geddy appeared with their signature doubleneck guitars as they played Xanadu, into the epic “2112” and encored with “Lakeside Park/Anthem” and “What You’re Doing/Working Man.” The concert film also includes the the band’s renowned tour videos, highlighted by “Roll The Bones (R40 Live),” that features an array of special guests in the rap part of the song: Jay Baruchel (She’s Out Of My League), Les Claypool (Primus), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), The Trailer Park Boys, and Jason Segel & Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man). It is the first time the band put the song back in the setlist since the R30 tour, a full decade ago. During the R40 Live tour, “Roll The Bones” gained new life and became a fan-favorite with an arena sing-along to the chorus “Why are we here? Because we’re here – Roll The Bones.” R40 Live audio was produced by Rush & David Botrill, and mixed by David Botrill (Tool, Muse); the film was directed by Dale Heslip, and produced by Allan Weinrib. The live photograph on the cover of R40 was shot by baseball Hall of Famer Randy Johnson, who captured the band in a rare moment when both Geddy Lee and Alex LIfeson were on Neil Peart’s drum kit riser.

Shot on February 21 and 22 of 2011 in her hometown of New York City, Five-time Grammy winner Lady Gaga’s first concert film, “Lady Gaga Presents The Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden,” spotlights the pop sensation on her sold-out world tour. The concert event features “Born This Way”, “Yoü and I”, “Bad Romance”, “Just Dance”, “Poker Face” and more, as well as pre-concert and backstage footage. As first seen on HBO®, the special was nominated for four Emmy Awards. Lady Gaga came to prominence following the release of her debut studio album The Fame (2008), which included the hits "Just Dance," "Poker Face," and "Bad Romance" and sold over 16 million copies worldwide. The album earned her six Grammy nominations and two wins as well as a slew of other awards recognition, including a record setting thirteen MTV Video Music Award nominations. Gaga is the first artist in history to claim four #1 hits from a debut album ("Just Dance," "Poker Face," "LoveGame" and "Paparazzi"). She is also the only artist in the digital era to top the 5 million sales mark with her first two hits. Gaga broke the record when her single "Poker Face" reached 5 million in sales after her debut single "Just Dance" accomplished the same feat the year before. Her third studio album, Born This Way, was released on May 23, 2011. The first single from the album, title track "Born This Way", set a music industry record by becoming the fastest single in history to reach sales of 1,000,000 copies (five days after its February 11th release). Only the 19th single to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (issue date February 26,2011), the recording was Lady Gaga's third #1 on the chart. On iTunes, the song debuted at the top spot in 14 countries, including the U.S., and hit #1 in all 23 iTunes stores worldwide its first week out. “Born This Way” was Gaga’s 7th single to hit #1 at Top 40. The singles from the album, including “Born This Way,” “Judas,” “The Edge of Glory” and “Yoü and I” have sold a combined total of more than 8 million copies in the US alone. Gaga is well-recognized for her outré sense of style as a recording artist, in fashion, in performance and in her music videos. Her contributions to the music industry have garnered her numerous achievements including five Grammy Awards amongst twelve nominations, two Guinness World Records and the estimated sale of 23 million albums and 60 million singles worldwide. Billboard named her both the "2010 Artist of the Year" and the top selling artist of 2010 ranking her as the 73rd Artist of the 2000s decade. Gaga has been included in Time's annual "The 2010 Time 100" list of the most influential people in the world as well as Forbes' list of the "The World's Most Powerful Celebrities" in the world. Forbes also placed her at number seven on their annual list of the world's "100 Most Powerful Women."

A stellar cast brings Puccini’s spellbinding opera to life, seizing every opportunity to thrill the audience. Luciano Pavarotti is Cavaradossi, the painter and political revolutionary in love with the beautiful and famous singer Tosca (the riveting Shirley Verrett). Rome’s diabolical chief of police, Baron Scarpia (Cornell MacNeil), wants Tosca for himself—but he underestimates the fury of a woman in love. With torture, murder, and a suicide in its final moments, Tosca packs more dramatic punches than most other operas—and this classic telecast captures them all. James Conlon conducts in a production by the incomparable Tito Gobbi, one of the great Scarpias of the 20th century.

Black Label Society, formed in the late nineties by legendary guitar hero Zakk Wylde, have established themselves at the forefront of heavy metal with a series of hard riffing and hugely successful albums alongside worldwide tours that have cemented their reputation as one of the most powerful live bands of their generation. “Unblackened” finds Black Label Society in a mellower mood in a performance filmed at Club Nokia in Los Angeles earlier this year. The concert showcases the band’s songs with a greater use of acoustic instruments but without losing any of their power and intensity. Zakk Wylde leads from the front as always, performing here on both guitar and piano and demonstrating the subtler side of his music alongside the blistering solos that his fans know and love. This is definitely a live concert not to be missed!

In 1999, Slipknot arose from the American midwest on the strengths of an uncompromising debut album and visceral, intense live performances. The band galvanized a counterculture in the States before swiftly becoming a global sensation. Wherever the band played, their reputation preceded them, growing even more rapidly in their wake as word of the live shows spread. In the years since, the band has continued to thrive, touring the world countless times. With the success of their number one album, .5: The Gray Chapter, Slipknot chose to create their own festival, Knotfest, playing one of the biggest markets in the world – with the most passionate fans of rock and metal – Mexico City. From the moment the band touched down, the maggots (the band’s own term for their fans, and happily adopted by the fans as a point of pride) were out in force. "Day Of The Gusano” documents not only a historic performance from one of the most exciting live bands on the planet, but delves deeply into the lives of the band’s fans as well. This highly anticipated show gives a window into the chaos, excitement and community Slipknot has cultivated over the past 20+ years.

Ever since her first Met performances as the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier in 2000, Renée Fleming has been celebrated as one of the most compelling interpreters of the role. In this Live in HD transmission, broadcast nearly two decades later, the silver-voiced American soprano sings her final performance as the elegant princess coming to grips with the persistent passage of time. Mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča delivers a commanding portrayal as Octavian, the title “Knight of the Rose” and the Marschallin’s impetuous young lover, in Robert Carsen’s madcap new production—which sets the action in 1911, the year of the work’s premiere. As the plucky young heiress Sophie, Erin Morley sings with a radiantly beautiful soprano, while bass Günther Groissböck offers a larger-than-life portrayal of Baron Ochs auf Lerchenau, the outlandish nobleman lusting after every woman in sight. And tenor Matthew Polenzani excites with his cameo appearance as the Italian Singer in Act I. Maestro Sebastian Weigle leads a buoyant account of Strauss’s beloved score, which incorporates Viennese waltzes, raucous comedy, and the composer’s characteristically vivid palette of orchestral color.

Acclaimed musician Kathryn Calder is touring the world with one of Canada’s biggest indie rock bands, The New Pornographers, when she receives devastating news: her mother, Lynn, has ALS, and a short time left to live. Kathryn learns that ALS is a progressive, paralyzing disease, with no treatment or cure. A terminal illness requiring full time care. She consequently decides to return to her childhood home, committed to being her mom's primary caregiver through the final months of her life. The foundation of Lynn and Kathryn's bond goes beyond mother and daughter—they share a love of music. Lynn, a former piano teacher, has always dreamed of seeing her daughter in the spotlight, singing her own songs. Inspired to make something beautiful amidst the grief and trauma of this long, painful goodbye, Kathryn transforms the living room of their house into a studio. With her mother in bed just down the hall and her condition worsening every day, Kathryn will fill the house with music and make a record—her first solo album—a parting gift for her biggest fan. A Matter of Time is a heart-breaking yet hopeful documentary that examines the power of love and music, and the inspiration, salvation, and possibility that occurs when these two forces intersect with the most challenging moment in a young musician's life.
