Alexa Chung Brings Thanksgiving to London

THE BRIT TAKE: Alexa Chung brought a taste of New York to London with a Thanksgiving celebration to kick off the holiday season. “I’m calling it Chungsgiving — I’ve taken Thanksgiving, as if the British haven’t done enough to plunder,” Chung said, while getting ready at the penthouse of the London Edition Hotel, where she hosted the dinner.
“I’ve lived in New York and experienced quite a few Thanksgivings over there. I never had any family living with me, so what the holiday meant to me was bringing your friends together and making a makeshift family of all the expats floating around.” Thursday evening’s makeshift family included Serafina Sama of Isa Arfen, Suki Waterhouse and Poppy Jamie of Pop & Suki, Jack Guinness, Jeanne Damas, Pixie Geldof and Camille Charriere.
“I’ve missed how Thanksgiving in New York used to feel. It’s the one time of the year when it’s not a religious holiday, it’s just the beginning of the holiday season, where you can celebrate it with your mates, get drunk, feel cozy,” added Chung.
Everyone certainly got cozy. The evening kicked off with rounds of American whiskey punch, followed by a turkey dinner and pumpkin pie for dessert. To top it off,

Alexa Fairchild Collection Aims to Be Seasonless and Multigenerational

MILAN — Behind the new label Alexa Fairchild is a family project.
“Alexa has always been very drawn to fashion, as you can imagine — she grew up in it, she came to fashion shows, she was exposed and we had all different Fairchild generations talking about fashion constantly,” explained her mother Erin Fairchild, co-managing director and chief marketing officer, of her daughter, the granddaughter of legendary WWD chairman and editorial director John B. Fairchild. “We asked ourselves, how do we change the value chain? We are trying to break the system in a positive way, and it’s important to have a clear point of view.”
The collection is for all ages, gender-neutral, seasonless and Made in Italy. In addition to building the brand, “the idea is to create a community, which we call ‘Fearless Dreamers,’ a tribe with like-minded values,” said Alexa Fairchild, creative director and co-managing director. “Anyone that feels left out can be part of the tribe,” she said during a visit to Milan from the family’s home base in Brussels. Natasha, Alexa’s younger sister, is currently studying film and digital production at Regent’s University in London and has taken on the role of visual manager.

The 10 Best Beauty Instagrams of the Week: Madonna, Alexa Chung, and More

beauty instagrams

From an open-air stretch to an impromptu frolic through crystal-clear waters, this week’s most memorable Instagrams were the stuff of sun-soaked reverie. Parisienne ballerina Dorothée Gilbert limbered up with a bit of poolside yoga—a vivid, ivy-coated chateau acting as the ideal backdrop for the dancer’s fair skin and brunette topknot; in Fiji, Joan Smalls paused for a moment of model-y reflection in view of a palm tree–freckled beach, her toned abs and languid pose inspiring a healthy cocktail of activity and tranquility. Constance Jablonski snapped a selfie from atop a stair-climbing donkey in the Greek Isles, showing off bare shoulders while shielding her complexion with an army green cap perched upon a mussed, golden bun. Also up for an adventure: Elizabeth von Thurn und Taxis, who spent the day kite surfing off the coast of Morocco, her slicked-back blonde accompanied by a swipe of blue “war paint” across her nose and cheeks for battling the waves. Always one to challenge the status quo, Madonna remained indoors while preparing for her upcoming Rebel Heart tour—but she wasn’t alone. A cadre of mannequin heads sporting perfectly blown-out blonde wigs and positioned along a row of baroque throw pillows seemed primed for a collective pre-concert snooze.

4 Ways to Tie Your Hair Up for the Weekend: Behati Prinsloo, Alexa Chung, and More

Amanda Norgaard instagram

Brimming with sunny charm, headscarves are a little bit like straw hats: effortless in theory, but tricky to pull off in real life. But judging by our favorite vacationing Insta beauties, the secret to working an irreverent bow or colorful swath of fabric into your hair comes down to one easy rule: Keep it simple. Behati Prinsloo stayed cool and protected her highlights with a gauzy solid number, and over in Uruguay, model Amanda Norgaard reminded us why Montevideo is known as the St.-Tropez of South America with a wide headband slipped over her salty knot and an Aperol in hand. Meanwhile, a poolside Rihanna found a heat wave–ready accessory in a printed silk scarf that was knotted at the front with her spiraling bangs spilling out, and Alexa Chung dressed up a split-second updo with a cheerful bow. Just in time the weekend, here are four selfie-tested hair upgrades made for a sun-soaked retreat.

AG, Alexa Chung Toast Fall Collection

REBEL YOUTH: Alexa Chung looked stunning in her AG jumpsuit, Saint Laurent heels and Shrimps bag at the cocktail hosted by the denim label in Paris’ Montaigne Market boutique on Thursday, the last day of couture week.
“I have just arrived in Paris. I was filming something,” said the British “It” girl, who was mum on further movie details. She has teamed up with Los Angeles-based AG for a second collection.
“I have always loved denim. It’s an easy, go-to fabric for bringing more feminine tops and high heels down to a more street-style and cooler [look]. I do find it difficult to find perfect jeans. Once you find them, you should buy a couple of pairs because it’s like gold dust,” she told WWD.
While Chung’s first line was based on the missing pieces of her wardrobe like a basic denim miniskirt, she said: “[I] couldn’t find a vintage one that fits properly, so just made one.
“I was interested in that book by photographer Karlheinz Weinberger. A lot of imagery associated with denim is male-centric and motorbike gang, set in the Seventies. I thought it would be good to create a fancy collection for a group of women that would be kind

Kate Hudson, Alexa Chung, Suki Waterhouse, Lara Stone, Christopher Kane, and More Toast the Serpentine Galleries

Lara Stone, Poppy Delevingne, Christopher Kane, and Alexa Chung serpentine gallery

The annual Serpentine Summer Party once again served as a coming-out fete for London’s short-lived heat wave. Security this year was tighter, but the guest list was wilder. Scottish-born Christopher Kane along with his muse-cum-friend Alexa Chung and Dasha Zhukova, in association with NARS Cosmetics, played host to the gallery’s unveiling of a new Pavilion commission—and celebration of its fifteenth anniversary.

The Serpentine’s directors, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Julia Peyton-Jones (in custom canary Christopher Kane), introduced the vibrant new space by Spanish architects SelgasCano. Poppy Delevingne—in a white and Klein Blue spiderweb see-through Kane dress—was seen rescuing society girl Sophia Hesketh’s vintage Pucci gown from the hinges of a door: “There’ll be nothing left of it!” she shrieked, as the girls made their way to a semi-transparent shoe box–like dance tent.

Suki Waterhouse—in fairy tale pistachio Valentino—played babysitter to her younger (even more excited) sister Immy as they fished their stilettos out of the freshly mown grass, following the throng of couture towards a crammed bandstand blaring out crowd-pleasers. The hits came in the form of Mark Ronson, who else, following the revival of Brit five-piece Spandau Ballet earlier in the evening: much to the delight of most of the women in attendance—with guitar player Gary Kemp being watched by ex-wife Sadie Frost arm in arm with makeup matriarch Charlotte Tilbury.

Edie Campbell initiated the raucous dancing to Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” wearing a LVMH prize–winner Marques ‘ Almeida Schiaparelli pink leather skirt and powder blue chiffon top; as designer Matthew Williamson tested the strength of the bandstand’s poles.

Afterwards, guests gracefully made their exit, relocating at Annabel’s for the after-party. Was that my imagination or was that Johnny Depp inconspicuously making his way through the gallery? “Dur, of course it was,” said socialite and model Jack Guinness, “Everybody comes to THIS party.”

Alexa Chung, will.i.am, Alexander Wang, and More Party in Pj’s Before the Met Gala

Photographed by Kevin Tachman

Call it the party before the party. While this weekend saw the jet set head westward to Las Vegas for the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight, those on the East Coast were bracing themselves for Monday night’s Met Gala. And what better way to get in the spirit of this year’s exhibit, “China: Through the Looking Glass,” than with a traditional dinner at New York City’s oldest dim sum parlor, Nom Wah Tea Parlor. Vogue’s Sally Singer hosted the evening which brought together an eclectic crew consisting of models Bella Hadid, Constance Jablonski, and Xiao Wen Ju; designers Alexander Wang, Erdem Moralioglu, and Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez; and front row staples Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, and Emily Ratajkowski.

The dress code? Pearl River–fabulous acting as an homage to the soon-to-be-closed Chinese emporium on lower Broadway. And the guests delivered—Phoebe Collings-James looked runway-ready, but stealing the show was the sensational Chloë Sevigny. Between bites of pan-fried noodles and vegetable dumplings, sips of St. Germain and Bombay Sapphire East cocktails—the custom gin and tonic bar proved to be a popular offering—and the jeroboams of Moët & Chandon sparkling with the Vogue logo in Swarovski crystals, Banks, Miguel, Aziz Ansari, and Grimes took in the charming setting and delectable cocktails on offer. After dinner and a champagne toast, guests including André Leon Talley, Hamish Bowles, Lisa Love—with daughter Laura—and Ladyfag flocked to the street to take in a spectacular lion dance performance by Chinatown Community Young Lions. Consider Saturday’s activities training for Monday night.

Alexa Chung and the Split-Second Polish of Face-Framing Curls

Alexa Chung beauty

With her talent for infusing after-dark polish with an achingly cool nonchalance, Alexa Chungs take on a sporty, not-quite-updo felt just as right with her turtleneck and overalls as it would have with a cocktail dress. The It Brit was spotted at the launch of her seventies-inspired AG denim collection at Selfridges with her shoulder-grazing waves pulled back, leaving out a few glossy, face-framing strands that looked like they had been wrapped around a curling iron. The look was further softened by a pairing of pale pink lipstick and her trademark feline flick traded out for the unfussy definition of powdery liner, offering a split-second strategy to take a messy-bun and nude makeup to the next level.
