Lanvin Appoints Bruno Sialelli Artistic Director

PARIS — Lanvin has appointed Bruno Sialelli artistic director, signaling new direction for the historic French house.
“His singular and very personal vision, his audacity, his culture, his energy and ability to build a strong creative team definitely convinced us,” said Lanvin chief executive officer Jean-Philippe Hecquet.
The former Loewe men’s wear designer worked under the direction of J.W. Anderson. He has also worked at Balenciaga, with Nicolas Ghesquière and Alexander Wang, as well as Acne Studios, where he was the senior designer for women’s wear, and Paco Rabanne.
“His proven ability to seamlessly transition between men’s wear and women’s wear will stand Lanvin in great stead as luxury fashion increasingly blurs the boundaries between the sexes,” the company said in a press release.

Diamond Producers Association Appoints Managing Director for North America

The Diamond Producers Association, or DPA, has appointed Kristina Buckley Kayel as its North American managing director.
Buckley Kayel previously served as vice president of communications, North America for Van Cleef & Arpels. She has also held marketing and public relations roles at Bottega Veneta, Ferragamo and Baccarat.
Beginning her new role on Feb. 4, Buckley Kayel will be responsible for creating new marketing strategies that further the organization’s “Real is Rare” motto.
“Kristina’s experience in the fine jewelry sector, along with her comprehensive communications expertise, business acumen and creativity, gives her a unique industry perspective. We are excited to have her join the Diamond Producers Association and work with us to strengthen and build upon our mission in the United States,” DPA chief executive officer Jean-Marc Lieberherr said of the hire.
The DPA was founded in 2015 by seven of the world’s biggest diamond-mining organizations as an industry-saving measure. Lab-grown diamonds are on the rise and Millennials have proven averse to the diamond tradition — weary of their conflict-riddled past and high price tag. Thus, the mining companies sprung to action, looking to reingratiate themselves with younger generations.
The DPA’s ‘Real is Rare’ campaign was launched in 2016 with the goal to teach Millennials

Obama Appoints Transgender Attorney Shannon Minter To White House Commission

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Monday appointed transgender attorney Shannon Price Minter to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships.

Minter, who is the legal director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, has been lead counsel in a number of legal wins for the LGBT community. He gained national attention in 2001 when he represented the lesbian partner of Diane Whipple in a wrongful death case stemming from a dog mauling. That case resulted in a landmark decision in California that extended tort claims to same-sex domestic partners.

Minter was also the lead attorney arguing before the California Supreme Court to overturn Proposition 8, a state ballot measure that banned same-sex marriage in the state. The U.S. Supreme Court in 2013 let a lower court decision go into effect that struck down the ban.

“I am confident that these experienced and hardworking individuals will help us tackle the important challenges facing America, and I am grateful for their service,” Obama said in a statement, of Minter and a handful of other new nominees. “I look forward to working with them.”

The Commission on White House Fellowships interviews and then recommends people to the president for appointment as White House Fellows, who typically spend a year as full-time, paid assistants to senior White House staff.

Minter is one of a number of transgender appointees in the Obama administration. Others include Amanda Simpson and Shawn Skelly at the Defense Department and Jay Davis at the Environmental Protection Agency.

“I am deeply honored to serve on the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships, which provides a unique opportunity for new leaders to gain a firsthand experience of our nation’s government,” Minter said in a statement. “As a transgender man, I am especially grateful to President Obama for his commitment to building a government that reflects the full diversity of our country and for supporting equal opportunity for all people.”

The story has been updated with a statement from Shannon Price Minter.
