New Balance #TCSNYCMarathon Commercial Features A Tribe Called Quest

“I sport New Balance sneakers to avoid a narrow path,” spit the late, great Phife Dawg on A Tribe Called Quest’s “Buggin’ Out” back in 1991. Now, New Balance used the track from the classic The Low End Theory album for a commercial tagged to today’s (Nov. 5) New York City Marathon.

Titled “Dear New York City” we’re not going to mention why it took so long for New Balance to use Phife’s bars in a spit. The clip has been out about month, so please forgive us for just noticing.

Rest in power Phife Dawg. Watch New Balance’s “Dear New York City” spot below.

When Amy Lewis prays for a savior, Loki Norse God of Mischief and Chaos isn’t who she has in mind. Loki can’t resist Amy’s summons, but he can insist she help him outwit Odin, ruler of the Nine Realms.  This box set contains the first three installments of I Bring the Fire plus In the Balance. It is perfect for fans of The Dresden Files, and Terry Pratchett. Wolves: I Bring the Fire Part I In the middle of America, Amy Lewis is on her way to her grandma's house. She's being chased by a very bad wolf. Galaxies away Loki is waking up in a prison cell, strangely without a hangover, and with no idea what he's done wrong — this time anyway. But he does know Thor is hiding something, Odin is up to something wicked, and there seems to be something he's forgotten… In this urban fantasy tale that is equal parts "Dresden Files" and "American Gods," a very nice midwestern girl and a jaded, mischievous Loki must join forces to outwit gods, elves, magic sniffing cats, and nosy neighbors. If Loki can remember exactly what he's forgotten and Amy can convince him not to be too distracted by Earthly gadgets, Earthly pleasures, or three day benders, they just might pull it off… Monsters: I Bring the Fire Part II After being attacked by a serial killer, saved by Loki — so-called God of Mischief, Lies and Chaos — dragged to Alfheim, losing every cent in her bank account, and caring for her grandmother, Amy Lewis has lost her scholarship to veterinary school. But it’s alright. She has a plan. If she manages to keep her day job as a receptionist, and her night job as a vet tech, she may be able to get her scholarship reinstated and save enough money for the dreaded ‘miscellaneous fees.’  Too bad her day boss is unbearable…  Agent Steve Rogers has political aspirations, but when a suitcase nuke turns out to be something much worse and so-called Norse gods start showing up in his life, he has a priority shift.  Meanwhile, Loki’s priorities and plans haven’t changed at all. He wants Asgard to burn. Of course, earthly pleasures can be so distracting.  These three disparate characters have little in common, but they’ll have to join forces to save earth from trolls, wyrms, frost giant invasions, and an old evil growing beneath Chicago’s streets.  Chaos: I Bring the Fire Part III In this final installment of the Cera story arc, the noose around Loki’s neck is tightening. Gerðr, the frost giantess, wants him dead; Cera, the World Seed, wants his head—literally and figuratively; the FBI wants him in Guantanamo; and an old friend from Asgard wants to bring him home…whether Loki likes it or not.  Things can’t get any worse, but when Loki’s involved, it’s certain they will. In the third chapter of I Bring the Fire, humanity’s demons are unleashed on the Nine Realms and Amy Lewis and Steve Rogers get front row seats.  Chaos might be their only hope.  In the Balance: An I Bring the Fire Novella Chaos can never really be destroyed …  Loki, God of Chaos, gave Amy Lewis all his memories, and one request before he saved the universe. “Remember for me.”  Amy knows Loki will find her, one way or another … eventually. But as the weeks have ticked by she’s lost hope.  Called into the FBI headquarters to identify a magical artifact, she gets the opportunity to find Loki for herself. In doing so, she tips the scales of not one, but two universes, and has to choose for herself what form she wants Chaos to take.  The fate of the Nine Realms is in the balance, and this time it is in Amy’s hands.   Discover the series readers are calling hilarious and profound. Jennifer Lawrence Shows How to Bring Chic Balance to the Asymmetric Skirt

jennifer lawrence

Arguably one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year is the final part of The Hunger Games saga, starring Jennifer Lawrence. The 25-year-old actress’s style has certainly evolved since the trilogy kicked off, and over the weekend in Hollywood she showed how seasoned she has become with her fashion choices.

We first spied Lawrence in a Dior scarf dress in Cannes back in the spring of 2014, and now it appears that the actress is reworking the silhouette in a fresh way. Instead of the highly graphic version she donned before, Lawrence focused on a minimal palette in a A.L.C. crop top and skirt. The fluttering asymmetric skirt gets a nice lift with nude strappy sandals; clearly a look worth revisiting.

5 Balance and Stability Workouts: The Country’s Best Studios for Centering Yourself

enzo sellerio vogue august 1965

To what lengths will you go to feel centered? Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt learned the gravity-defying art of high-wire walking (in addition to cultivating a believable and alluring French accent) to play the incomparable Philippe Petit in the new film The Walk, in wide release Friday. Petit is the impeccably fit daredevil who, in August 1974, stealthily made his way into the World Trade Center’s twin towers to install a wire and walk between the tops of the two 110-floor buildings. Such a stunt required heart-pounding core training and intense concentration. Feeling equally brave? Hone your balance and stability with these mind-over-matter workouts, from gravity-defying wire walks above desert wildlife in Tucson, Arizona, to backflips on indoor trampolines in San Francisco’s Crissy Field. Or remain firmly planted on the ground while strengthening your core with yoga in New York City’s Chinatown. Just remember to breathe.

Conditioning at Trapeze School New York, Santa Monica, CA
This 90-minute circuit-training class uses aerial silks, fitness balls, and floor work to increase your stamina and flexibility. Work on the static trapeze targets major muscle groups, while each minute movement strengthens weaker areas to create a balanced body. In other words: One minute you’re soaring, the next you’re balancing firmly on the ground.

Desert Tightrope at Miraval Resort, Tucson, AZ
Spend two hours learning how to move forward while letting go as you walk a desert tightrope suspended 35 feet above the Arizona desert. Petit has said the first step on a wire is the hardest, and this fitness class will demand every ounce of resolve, even with a safety harness firmly in place. Consider this a physical and mental exercise designed to change your perspective on life. No small feat.

Katonah Yoga at Sky Ting Yoga, New York City
Taoist philosophy (living in harmony with the source of everything that exists) combined with Hatha yoga, Pranayama breathing techniques, and Vinyasa sequences tones bodies and minds during each hour-plus class at this Nick Poe–designed Chinatown studio founded by Krissy Jones and Chloe Kernaghan. The studio name refers to a space in the sky, and the fourth-floor location will have you scaling a few staircases to work on your balance. Strengthen arms, legs, and core muscles while you practice staying centered and disregarding distractions.

Air Conditioning at House of Air, San Francisco
Bounce and soar across a series of trampolines spread inside a massive Crissy Field warehouse during this 50-minute thigh-burner. The full-body workout will strengthen your core and hone your balance as you navigate from one rectangular trampoline to the next. “Look before you leap” takes on new meaning here.

Intro to Aerial Silk at Aerial Physique, Los Angeles
Test your coordination while working your back muscles and upper body at Jill Franklin’s new 10,000-square-foot studio, where hour-plus classes have you climbing and practicing basic foot locks and inversions. Core work is intense, but the view from high above the studio floor can’t be topped. What a rush.

Arianna Huffington Discusses Growth, Work-Life Balance in Beverly Hills

POWER LUNCH: Arianna Huffington shared words of wisdom about work-life balance in between the occasional quips at a Los Angeles luncheon Wednesday for the Australian networking group Business Chicks.
The nearly 10-year-old organization, with more than 35,000 members, officially launched in Los Angeles Wednesday at the swanky SLS hotel in Beverly Hills. It was the group’s first Los Angeles event, following one in San Francisco and a first in New York slated for Friday as the group seeks growth Stateside.
Huffington began her talk first saying, “For those of you who have not heard me before, I have to say that this accent is for real.”
She chatted up the merits of naps at work, unplugging from technology at the end of the day and getting eight hours of sleep — tips that will certainly become more important as the Huffington Post continues to expand.
An Australian version, in partnership with Fairfax Media, will launch in August.
The AOL-owned digital company will also roll out an Arabic-language edition called HuffPost Arabi at the end of the month, with coverage reported out of Istanbul.
“And if anybody here,” Huffington told Wednesday’s crowd, “wants to write about what’s happening in the Muslim world, we want to put the
