Millennials have it good with their technological ways and all these days, but they’ll never know how truly glorious life was in the golden era of humanity: the 90’s.

Dave East and Rick Ross know this all too well as they link up for “Fresh Prince of Belaire” where the duo throw a 90’s theme party complete with loud ass clothing and a yellow taxi cab. We kinda feel like most people actually took an Uber to the video shoot but that’s neither here nor there.

Keeping with the 90’s, OG Hip-Hop group The Lox come through with a good ol’ cookout at the park where they’re surrounded by fam and friends for their clip to “I Don’t Care.” We wonder what they would’ve done had BBQ Becky called popo on them.

The People’s Plan to Fix Health Care

We the People of the United States elected a populist president to go to Washington DC and make the changes the people want. Sounds good on paper.

Unless the people don’t know what they want.

That’s the situation with health care. The public doesn’t have any majority opinion on what a comprehensive plan should look like. The topic is too complicated and the public is too uninformed. We sent President Trump into battle unarmed. If We the People find a way to tell our president what we want, I have confidence he can help us get it. But if we don’t know what we want, our populist president has nothing to sell. That’s our situation today. We elected the world’s greatest salesman and gave him no product to sell to Congress.

Don’t say “repeal Obamacare.” That’s not a health care plan. That’s just a step.

What we need is a “people’s plan” for health care that does not originate from congress or lobbyists or the healthcare industry. We need 1-3 sensible plans created by the public, and presented to our populist president for selling to Congress. No other path is likely to succeed.

To get the ball rolling, I created the hashtag #PeoplesPlanHealth to capture the various ideas coming from the public. If any of those plans emerge as popular (based on retweets, likes, etc.) I have offered to help turn what is likely to be a complicated idea into something simple and persuasive. Once we have a plan with popular support, and persuasive packaging, I will make sure it gets to the right people in the White House. One way or another. (Twitter is probably enough.)

Here’s my Periscope in which I talk about this in more detail.

Speaking of lowering healthcare costs, apparently I am doing my part. Doctors are rallying around the systems-based diet ideas (just one chapter) in my book. See the comments on this tweet for how much weight people are losing after reading it.

Scott Adams’ Blog

Health Care is a System, Not a Goal

Last night, Senator McCain cast the deciding vote to kill the “skinny” version of a proposed health care bill. Notice how he explains it as a failure of process, not a problem with the bill itself:

“I’ve stated time and time again that one of the major failures of Obamacare was that it was rammed through Congress by Democrats on a strict-party line basis without a single Republican vote. We should not make the mistakes of the past that has led to Obamacare’s collapse, including in my home state of Arizona where premiums are skyrocketing and health care providers are fleeing the marketplace. We must now return to the correct way of legislating and send the bill back to committee, hold hearings, receive input from both sides of aisle, heed the recommendations of nation’s governors, and produce a bill that finally delivers affordable health care for the American people. We must do the hard work our citizens expect of us and deserve.”

Love him or hate him, McCain did what heroes do. He took a bullet to prevent Congress from ignoring the wishes of half the country. Now we have a chance to do it right. Let in some new voices. Consider some new options. Make it a team effort.

My optimism for a good health care outcome just hit its peak. Had they passed a bill, it would have limited their options for improvement to the stale ideas we’ve already heard. Now, for the first time, the public and perhaps Democrats can contribute some ideas and broaden the options.

Today is a very good day disguised as a bad one. If you think in terms of goals, Congress failed to pass a bill last night. But if you think in terms of systems, our options for solving health care just went from limited to plenty. We’re in the best position yet.

Did you wonder why President Trump seemed somewhat hands-off on health care? I think it’s because his strongest play as a negotiator involved waiting until Congress utterly and completely failed. That almost didn’t happen last night. It took a war hero to finish the job.

Now it’s our turn to come up with better ideas, or to support better ideas wherever we see them. And if we are smart, we will insist on testing some ideas in limited ways, such as Special Health Care Zones in some states, and that sort of thing.

And we should be focused on innovation and technology to lower health care costs. There isn’t any other path forward.

You might enjoy reading my book because it is all about how systems are better than goals.

I Tell You How Citizens Can Fix Health Care (Now that Congress Failed)

Congress just proved something that we all suspected: They are the wrong tool for fixing health care. The topic is too complicated, the politics are too corrosive, and the money interests are too strong. That’s why citizens will step in and fill the gap with their own proposals. I expect to see a number of citizen-created health care proposals emerge soon. To that end, I thought I would get the ball rolling by framing the problem in this short 4-minute video. This is how any large business would approach the problem of spiraling healthcare costs. Here is the graphic from the video clip:

The advantage American citizens have in 2017, that we never had before, is a populist president who can sell the bejeezus out of a health care plan if someone could come up with one that makes sense. But for that to happen, Congress first had to do a hard faceplant in the asphalt, to show the country they are not the right tool for the job. That phase is complete. Time for the next phase.

You might enjoy reading my book because Congress is broken.

News: Company’s HR Manager Really Pushing Infinite-Deductible Health Care Plan

ROCHESTER, NY—During a meeting with new hires Wednesday to discuss employee benefits, Radian Analytics human resources manager Ellen Schultz is said to have strongly pushed the company’s infinite-deductible health care option.

According to sources in attendance, Schultz described the low-premium, infinite-deductible plan as the simplest and most convenient choice available to employees, and said it works the same whether plan members need to visit their primary care physician, fill a prescription, or be admitted to a hospital, allowing them in each case to pay 100 percent of the incurred medical expenses.

Company officials explained that the health care option had been set up to address complaints employees had with previous plans, which often came with confusing paperwork and long wait times for reimbursement, problems that have disappeared now that the limitless deductibles have eliminated any need to even bother filing a claim.

Why ‘Teen Mom 2”s Leah Decided To Finally Focus On Taking Care Of Herself

Find out why “Teen Mom”‘s Leah decided to enter a treatment center for her mounting personal issues.

Hollywood “Takes Care of Its Own,” Unless You Are Trans, Part 2

Recently I blogged about some of the challenges that trans people who live out here in Hollywood, a.k.a. America’s Liberal Dream Factory, face when it comes to health care.

Let me underline exactly what those challenges mean. First, let’s look at the big, broad, macro level of Hollywood optics. I’ll use two celebrity examples; let’s make it clear that since I know nothing of their own health care needs or realities, the “examples” are purely hypothetical.

Eddie Redmayne is a talented actor who will appear in the film The Danish Girl as Lili Elbe, one of the modern world’s first transsexual women. Mr. Redmayne is, as far as I know, a cisgender (meaning non-trans) man. If the film was made under Hollywood-based Screen Actors Guild agreements, Mr. Redmayne would most likely qualify for the Motion Picture Health Plan. So we have a cisgender man playing a transsexual woman in a big-budget blockbuster movie who qualifies for his male-oriented health care because… well… he’s human, and a man.

Laverne Cox is an award-winning actress who has appeared on Orange is the New Black, and is an outspoken, eloquent advocate for rights of trans people. Let’s say that she made a film, or worked on a T.V. series under the Hollywood SAG agreement and had enough hours to qualify for health care. She might qualify, but the plan would still be able to refuse her trans-specific health care, in spite of her humanity and legal status as a woman.

Not being an idiot, I don’t think that’s likely to happen, and really, Ms. Cox’s health care is none of my damn business. But let’s make a theoretical comparison to Mr. Redmayne; Laverne would be a trans woman playing a part (trans or not) in a movie or series with contracts that include coverage under the same plan, but whether she gets trans-specific health care is completely up to the administrators of the plan. If the administrators decide that her care was part of that two-word exception “gender change,” they would be within their rights to refuse her.

Mr. Redmayne, playing a trans woman: no problem. Ms. Cox, a real trans woman: we’ll get back to you.

I could pick other examples. Felicity Huffman vs. Candis Cayne. Hilary Swank vs. Turner Scott Schofield. None of these may apply in real life, but they point to a truth; trans people can be refused trans-specific health care under the current Motion Picture Plan PPO unless they opt for an HMO, and even then they are subjected to bureaucratic gymnastics and extra scrutiny.

In all of these cases, actors are selling tickets or advertising for Hollywood by portraying trans identities. Let me put this bluntly: if we are we “interesting” enough for you, Hollywood, to tell our stories and make money doing it, why are we considered unfit to demand the health care we need to sustain those identities you are exploiting?

I’ll say that again. Hollywood is exploiting us while considering us unfit for trans-specific health coverage.

Here’s another example. Let’s say I am a young, recently transitioned female camera assistant. The plan can, and has, refused the hormones I have been prescribed because they are for “gender change;” those two magic words that are “exceptions” according to the MPIPHP.

If I am a middle-aged man who feels a little listless, my doctor can prescribe a testosterone cream for me. If I am a middle aged woman, my doctor can prescribe an estrogen patch or cream for me; the same patches, or cream our camera assistant is refused. A trans man working as a grip would be in a similar fix.

The issue seems to be this; all health plans are watching the culture for cues. It’s easy to find people in our culture who think that trans people don’t exist because we are mentally ill, had smothering mothers or are possessed by demons doing the bidding of Satan. Politicians and bloviating radio rage-peddlers find us an easy target for raising a campaign slush fund or selling worthless gold contracts to rubes; we stir strong emotions, and that sells. We’re yet another group of humans that people who are angry and scared can focus on to anesthetize themselves against reality. It’s hard to hate someone that you humanize, so some people work hard at dehumanizing us.

More subtly, there are physicians and hospital administrators who cynically may see us as a group without any political clout or unified voice, and who may be tempted to stall, complicate or discourage us from demanding the health care we so rightfully deserve. Even my friends who have trans-inclusive health coverage are frustrated by the lack of education among physicians and wildly uneven interactions with organizations like Kaiser Health.

There are also horrific cases of physicians who have allowed their personal feelings to interfere with urgent health needs of their patients. That’s inexcusable.

Most trans people working on films in Hollywood aren’t movie stars. Most of us are working crew people struggling to get by in the modern workplace like everyone else. Those of us lucky enough to have labor unions to protect our health care have just one simple request; give us what we need from the health plan we pay into, when we need it, and listen to us when we tell you that you can do it better for us than you have in the past.

It’s time for Hollywood to truly take care of all of “Our Own.”

Her hair, or lack thereof, stood in direct contrast with the lengthy, ultrafeminine locks of the era’s supermodels—think Christy, Cindy, Naomi, Stephanie, and long, swingy sheets of hair. Two decades later and long hair is still the default for new models, whose agents praise its versatility: With fashion shows and editorials requiring models to be quick-change artists, longer hair can more easily lend itself to the required transformations. As a result, agencies have historically preferred that models play it safe. But the current fixation on models with “personality” has given rise to a set of beauties who follow in the footsteps of trailblazers like Salvail. African models like Grace Bol, Herieth Paul, and Ajak Deng have been wearing their hair super short for years, but only recently have their peers followed suit. Rising stars Tamy Glauser, Ruth Bell, and Kris Gottschalk have all embraced the buzz cut—and seen their careers skyrocket as a result.

Close-cropped hair has long been a signifier of punk rebellion and offbeat cool, so it’s fitting that designers who understand the importance of carefully curated edge have sought the models who dare to shear: Glauser is a regular at Rick Owens and on Nicolas Ghesquières runway for Louis Vuitton, while Gottschalk was tapped to model alongside the boys at Public School’s show at men’s New York Fashion Week, and Bell cut her chest-length strawberry blonde hair to front the latest campaign for Alexander McQueen. As it turns out, having a shaved head has become something of a savvy career move: It not only attracts cooler clients, it also serves to set a model apart from the hundreds of other girls on the scene. “There are hardly any other models with a shaved head,” says Gottschalk. “It’s interesting because other girls don’t really see me as competition—I don’t get those sideways glances at castings.”

Bell’s newly shorn hair also helps to differentiate her from her twin and fellow model, May. Born and raised in Kent, England, the sisters began their fashion careers together often photographed as a pair—they even share an Instagram account. Since her pixieish Paul Hanlon buzz cut, Bell has been carving out a niche for herself, working with the likes of David Sims and Lachlan Bailey and, yes, forming her own social media account—one filled with shots of her as a moody, punkish gamine, rather than the more traditional, whimsical images that fill the account she and her sister share.

Glauser, likely one of the originators of the current buzzed-off trend, got her fade from a friend. “I had been talking about wanting to cut my hair forever, but I was too scared,” admits Glauser. “One day my friend just picked up scissors and cut my hair right down the middle—there was no going back.” Over time the look became Glauser’s signature: Occasionally the color will change—earlier this month she debuted a platinum hue—but the length rarely varies. Though she’s benefited from her now-trademark daring do, Glauser cautions those attempting to emulate it. “[Shaving your head] is a risk, you never really know how it will look until that moment of truth.” Still, the model has no plans to revert to her old style. “It just feels too amazing short—I might let it grow a centimeter, then it’s time to shave again!”

Skin Care Products That Make a HUGE Difference in Your Skin, According to a Celebrity Makeup Artist

Celebrity makeup artists always know the best skin care products–they need them to keep their clients’ skin in good shape under heavy on-camera foundations and to avoid irritation through multiple makeup changes. And Andréa Tiller, a makeup artist whose work you’ve seen on lovely women like Olivia Culpo and Amy Schumer, is one of those people we count on to know. Luckily last night she was in a sharing mood, spilling the details of three of her all-time favorites on Instagram, writing, “I can’t live without these! Seriously!” and adding “I have also used these on my clients as skin prep and they love them!”

Here are the products that currently have her heart:

Sisley Paris All Day All Year Cream ($ 410, nordstrom.com). She says, “This cream does it all! It’s amazing for daytime use. It has sunscreen in it that lasts up to eight hours! This is rare because most moisturizer’s sunscreen lasts up to four hours.” She continued, “This is usually my last step before I put on my makeup–no need for primer. Did I also mention it’s anti-aging? It’s really gentle on my skin and doesn’t feel oily!” One last point: “This is also for all skin types including sensitive and oily.” What makes it worth $ 410, you may ask? The micro-encapsulated filter technology that blocks out 90 percent of UV rays for hours on end as well as the fact that it contains 12–yes, 12–active ingredients that protect and repair skin.

Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment, ($ 69, sephora.com). “I am obsessed with this mud mask–I’ve been using this brand for years. If for a second I feel my face is about to break out I put this on and any blemish is gone and flat the next day. It’s a miracle worker!”

Vintners Daughter Active Botanical Serum ($ 185, vintnersdaughter.com). “This is such a beautiful face oil, I highly recommend it. I’ve been using it for a couple of months and my skin is radiant and softer!” How she applies: “I use it every night before bed and wake up glowing.” Pricey but, she says, “worth every penny!”

How Loli’s DIY Skin Care Kits Are Rethinking the Beauty Box Concept

loli organics beauty subscription box

If you’ve ever dreamed of the beauty equivalent of a dinner-prep kit—think fresh, farm-to-table ingredients delivered straight to your front door and made for DIY mixing à la Blue Apron or Plated—you’re officially in luck. Each month, skin care enthusiasts who sign up for the fledgling at-home subscription service known as Loli will receive an eco-friendly recyclable box filled with neatly packaged tins of wild harvested, fair trade, or food-grade ingredients and a customizable recipe. Founded by former beauty industry pro Tina Hedges, who logged time at companies like L’Oréal and Estée Lauder before leaving to develop her own niche brand, Loli promises to offer the same kind of gratification—and relaxation—that comes with making a meal at home.

Here’s how it works: Each kit has a different focus: face, body, hair or bath. The individual ingredients inside are elegantly packaged, pre-measured, sustainably sourced, seasonal, and come with a step-by-step card with instructions for making your own series of treatments. This month’s box, for example, comes packed with a small vial of pre-made chamomile-, lavender-, and witch hazel–infused hydrating tonic, a container filled with powdered apple cider vinegar, a slim tube of citrus cleansing grains, and a set of neatly bound star thistle honey sticks—all of which could be used in varying prescribed proportions to make both a brightening makeup remover-and-cleanser, as well as a separate exfoliating face scrub; previous boxes have led subscribers through the hand-mixing of a brown sugar-and-coffee body scrub, Himalayan bath salt soak, rejuvenating face mask, and gentle shampoo. But be forewarned: Once you start, you may never leave the house on a Saturday morning again.

Plus-Size Vlogger Doesn’t Care If Her Bikini Body Makes You ‘Uncomfortable’

“Why is it that someone else can dictate that you are not allowed to put something on your body that makes them uncomfortable?”

Such is one of just a few questions worth asking when it comes to what women choose to wear near bodies of water. YouTube star and plus-size fashion vlogger Loey Lane is fed up with nasty comments that degrade plus-size women for wearing bikinis. And she decided to do something about it.

Lane recently posted a video expertly shutting down the body-shamers. She poses important questions like, “Why [should] someone who is larger…have to cover more square inches of their body?” and why fellow beach-goers comfort level has anything to do with what she chooses to wear.

Lane also addresses the common, yet still absurd assumption that bigger women who show off their bodies are asking for feedback on how they look. She says, “Any woman, no matter her size, any man, any human being, they’re not looking for your approval or your praise of what they’re wearing.”

Lane’s bikini body haters have no right to tell her — or anyone else — whether or not they should sport a swimsuit. If you have a body and a two-piece, BAM! You’ve got yourself one beach-ready bikini bod.

LGBT Teens Find Sanctuary in Foster Care

Three years ago this month, my spouse and I received our license to provide foster care in California, with an intention to adopt. But this was not our first rodeo… a decade ago, we had been licensed foster care dads in Washington State working specifically with boys in the SAY program — these teens had been adjudicated as sexual offenders. The thing about “sexually aggressive youth” is that in all cases they had been sexually abused themselves. What we found with these boys is that they were just normal teenagers, sexualized too soon, caught up in a system that labeled them as sexual offenders, a life sentence for many of them.

Back to California and three years ago. We were the only ones in our class of foster care trainees who wanted an older kid. Due to several factors (our age and our swimming pool), we wanted to avoid some of the issues of having a toddler in the house. We also indicated we would be happy to welcome an LGBT identified child into our family. Due to the large number of teens in the system, we were told that our placement would be relatively quick.

Yet, here we are, three years later with no kid.

After receiving our license we were given to understand that the next thing that had to happen was a home study inspection. We waited a year for that inspection due to staffing issues in the state administration office that handles home studies.

Our patience running thin, we finally placed a call to an LGBT Foster Care Advocacy agency in Los Angeles. Hearing that we wanted the harder to place “older kid,” they expressed certain shock and dismay about our situation. And then, things happened. Calls were made, cages rattled, and our state inspection was scheduled.

We passed muster after some odd scrutiny regarding our backyard and possibly dangerous boulders that dot the property. While waiting further months, we began a remodel, improving doors and windows in the house. This project was met with concern from the county placement agency and they decided to make us wait until after the remodel was completed. We do have another house in the mountains nearby, so it’s not as if we had nowhere to live during the remodel. Another year passed.

When we called to report our house project was completed, we were told that we needed to start over with the state — another inspection was required. And our other required submissions were now expired. So, back to get the witch’s broom. Tax documents, medical records, physical exams, TB test, CPR training, all had to be done again.

Which brings us to three years.

Friends have asked us, “Is there some bias in these agencies — is it because you’re gay?” It’s hard to imagine that fact being included in the reasons for the delay. More likely, it is simply a matter of the system being so completely overloaded, so fraught with abuse and investigations of abuse, that the people who work in the government agencies cannot attend to the most pressing issue at hand — creating more suitable living situations for the traumatized young people now in foster care?

One certain result of our three-year wait has been the development of Sanctuary Palm Springs. While we delved into the workings of the county’s labyrinthian process to foster and adopt a child, we learned of the specific plight of LGBT teens in the system. They are, without doubt, the most at risk for abuse and self-inflicted harm.

We came to understand that LGBT teens number 18-20 percent of the population in foster care, much higher than the general percentages in society. This is due to the number of children being forced from their family homes once coming out, or being found out. Being discovered LGBT while in state custody often results in bullying and physical mistreatment. With that in mind, one can extrapolate the actual numbers of LGBT teens in foster care as being even higher.

We envision Sanctuary Palm Springs as a Family Home for LGBT teens in state custody. Not a group home, per se, but a place of safety and healing in a community based support system. These kids have lost their families, as many in the adult LGBT population did once they came out. But ask any LGBT professional and they will tell you they found a new, more supportive family amongst friends and colleagues in the LGBT community.

Understanding that a new family awaits them, where love and recognition of worth are available, our kids can find within themselves the path to a healthy future. Our facility will emphasize the importance of education as a means for success. And our Mentor Program will pair our residents with skilled members of the adult LGBT community, giving our kids an anchor in learning what interests them the most, whether it’s water color painting or automotive repair.

An additional element of Sanctuary Palm Springs is the Transitional Housing Program that serves young adults leaving foster care. No longer forced out on to the streets at 18, our residents can take advantage of further support and learn the necessary independent living skills to thrive as an adult.

So, this three-year wait has not been for nothing. Our supporters in creating Sanctuary Palm Springs include Rep. Raul Ruiz, Mayor Steve Pougnet and members of the City Council. The outpouring of support from the media and the people of Palm Springs has been overwhelming.

Though not always a smooth process, our work to complete the requirements with the county and state agencies has had some bright moments. We note a level of hope in the system. Overworked bureaucrats who believe in our program have expressed their goodwill and guidance. They see our plan as an important development in the care of this underserved and vulnerable population.

In the beginning, we saw the need and said, “Someone should do something for these kids.” It turned out it was us. We have taken on a Master Class of sorts, how to start a non-profit organization and build from the ground up a home that heals the hearts and troubled souls of our young. Please join us in our endeavor. These kids are worth the investment. And we can guarantee a high rate of return.

As for our own family, we are expecting a boy. We brought back cigars from a recent trip to Cuba… just in case.

This Trans Man’s Breast Cancer Nightmare Exemplifies The Problem With Transgender Health Care

Jay Kallio is a transgender man who lived through a healthcare nightmare he hopes no other trans person will ever have to face, and he shared the painful story with HuffPost Live’s Nancy Redd last week.

It began when Kallio found a lump on his breast just three months after a mammogram. He had a second mammogram, then a biopsy and, when weeks went by without receiving any test results, he just assumed everything was fine. That changed when he suddenly got a phone call from the doctor who performed his biopsy — and who was not his primary physician.

“She said to me, ‘Hi, I was just curious how you were doing with your diagnosis.’ And I said, ‘What diagnosis?’ She she sort of spurted, ‘[Your doctor] hasn’t called you yet?'” Kallio remembered.

The biopsy confirmed that Kallio had “very aggressive” breast cancer, and Kallio knew he needed treatment immediately, especially as the pain in his breast intensified.

“It felt like getting shot slowly. It felt like it was heading right for my heart. So I was getting nervous. I still get nervous when I think about it,” he said.

Even after that, Kallio’s doctor still wouldn’t contact him, which came as a huge surprise considering his doctor was head of surgery at a major hospital in “great big blue Manhattan,” a liberal city where Kallio expected “embracing care” from “competent experts.” The physician eventually got in touch when Kallio made moves to have his case transferred, but the conversation did not go as he hoped.

“The first thing [the doctor] said was, ‘I have a real problem with your transgender status.’ And he said, ‘When I found out you were transgender, the first thing I wanted to do, my first impulse was to send you to psychiatry,'” Kallio said. “So this is what a breast surgeon wanted to do with my breast cancer, is first send me to psychiatry.”

After a long struggle, Kallio eventually did find a “very welcoming” surgeon to help him, and the procedure also accomplished something Kallio had never been able to do because of his low income.

“That’s how I lost my breasts. I was never able to afford any transition care as a transgender person, so I lost my breasts through having a double mastectomy for breast cancer,” he said.

Unfortunately, Kallio is currently in the middle of another fight for his life — this time with terminal lung cancer. Though the outlook is bleak, Kallio told HuffPost Live he sees the effects of the work he’s done in between his two diagnoses, including providing free training to hospital staffs on how to treat LGBTQ patients of all kinds.

“The second time around I am being treated in a very loving fashion by providers, most of whom I have trained to do my cancer care,” he said. “And the really positive, uplifting thing I have to say is: Activism works. Activism works, so get out there and fight for your rights, fight for your lives. It’s not going to end with me. I may be facing the end, and I won’t be out there screaming and yelling and holding a sign much longer, but up until my last breath, that’s what I’m going to be doing because I know it saves lives.”

Watch Jay Kallio share the powerful story of his fight with cancer in the video above, and click here for the full HuffPost Live conversation about the challenges of transgender healthcare.

Zoe Saldana’s Husband Takes Her Name, Doesn’t Care What You Think

Zoe Saldana’s husband doesn’t “give a sheet” what people say about his decision to take the actress’ last name.

The “Guardians of The Galaxy” star sits beaming on the cover of the July issue of InStyle magazine, in which she reveals how Italian artist Marco Perego took her name after the two secretly married in the summer of 2013. Perego, it turns out, made the progressive decision in spite of his wife’s doubts.

“I tried to talk him out of it. I told him, ‘If you use my name, you’re going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world’,” the star told InStyle. “But Marco looks up at me and says [she puts on a cute Italian accent], ‘Ah, Zoe, I don’t give a sheet.’”

In the interview, which hits newsstands on June 15, the actress also talks about how motherhood has changed her marriage and her thoughts on what her post-pregnancy body should be like.

“I don’t want to get back to where I used to be,” Saldana told InStyle. “I want to feel healthy, and not just fit into the old jeans I used to wear. I’m a woman now. My body has changed forever. It’s softer… and stronger.”

Saldana and her husband welcomed their twin boys, Cy Ardio and Bowie Ezio, in November. Since then, the first-time mom has been vocal on social media about her struggles. Not only has she turned to Twitter for breastfeeding advice, but she also opened up on Facebook in April about the “dramatic changes” her body underwent, inside and out, after the birth of her sons.

As you all know, we welcomed twin boys last November. Yes, by far, the most amazing experience of my life, but also a very challenging experience when it pertains to my body. I’m sure moms across the world (and dads sometimes) can identify with what I’m about to say.

Your body changes dramatically, inside and out. You grow in places you never knew you could, and you are tired beyond belief. In some cases more than others, your body experiences a kind of trauma through childbirth that is difficult to explain unless you’ve had that experience. My case was like that, everything from my thyroid to my platelets crashed. Thank God, we are all doing great now, but my body was really bent out of shape after the boys were born. Bouncing back feels impossible, but I know it is important as a woman, and now a mommy, to not give up. I am determined to get my energy back and find balance for my body before these little guys start walking, and before I go back to work….. my clock is ticking!

The 36-year-old actress ended her long message to fans — which you can read here in full — by inviting other mothers to share their own struggles and support each other.

“I know many of you have gone through this or are going through it as we speak,” Saldana said in the Facebook post. “Let’s do it together. Let’s talk about it, hear each other out, and seek advice when we need it.”

Legendary Blues Musician B.B. King Confirms He Is In Hospice Care

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Blues legend B.B. King was in hospice care Friday at his home in Las Vegas, according to a longtime business associate with legal control over his affairs.

The 89-year-old musician posted thanks on his official website for fans’ well-wishes and prayers after he returned home from a brief hospitalization, said Laverne Toney, King’s longtime business manager and current power-of-attorney. “Mr. King is where he wishes to be,” Toney said. “He’s always told me he doesn’t want to be in a hospital. He wants to be at home.”

An ambulance was summoned Thursday after what Las Vegas police Officer Jesse Roybal characterized as a domestic dispute over medical care. No arrests were made, and Roybal said no criminal complaint was filed.

Toney disputed reports by celebrity website TMZ citing one of King’s daughters as saying she called police because she was upset about her father’s condition and that he had suffered a minor heart attack. Efforts by the Associated Press to reach the daughter, Patty King, were not immediately successful.

Paramedics checked King’s heart rhythm, and he was treated at the hospital for complications of high blood pressure and diabetes, Toney said. King was diagnosed with diabetes decades ago.

Roybal confirmed that police received a report on Nov. 16 claiming abuse at the house. No charges have been filed, and the police spokesman said details of the investigation were not immediately available.

King’s hospitalization was the second in a month. He posted a similar message to fans when he returned home April 7.

He canceled the final shows of his 2014 tour last October after falling ill in Chicago.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He has released more than 50 albums and sold millions of records worldwide.

His guitar, famously named Lucille, has soared and wailed in songs ranging from “Every Day I Have the Blues” to “When Love Comes to Town” to “The Thrill is Gone.”

MensJournal.com: Style

Clinton Does Not Inspire — Should I Care?

Hillary Clinton just doesn’t inspire me. I can’t get excited. Who are those people in the video? The logo doesn’t make me feel anything, maybe confusion.

Unenthusiastic responses have dominated public discussion in the progressive world, as well as the in my small liberal neighborhood in Manhattan. It is clear liberal romantics are unmoved. What is less clear is why that matters?

Generation Y and Millennials seem to have decided that the problem with modern politics is our leaders do not inspire us. Full disclosure: I’ve been guilty of this sin, but consider myself recently reformed. It’s not Hillary Clinton’s job to illicit a warm inner glow in me every time she opens her mouth. That’s Taylor Swift’s job, and she’s mighty good at it.

Our generation has largely given up on the superstitions of religion, but cling to the idea of messiahs. Every four years we demand a candidate who we can believe can lead us to political salvation. Someone to “reclaim the American dream” (God knows who from) and “turn this country around” (after 35 years of turning around, I suspect this country is going in circles) and “take back our country” (from the invading hordes of citizens from the south with different opinions). We want a candidate to help us find meaning and purpose in this world.

Unfortunately, our messiah has to run for president. This task demands a degree of being uninspiring. The presidential election requires you to get a majority of votes, in a majority of states. That’s a lot of people and a lot of states. It’s expensive. Probably cannot threaten to put wall-street bankers in prison. As much as you’d like to please Brooklyn hipsters by announcing a ban on coal, nuclear, gas and all other non-organic energy sources, you may need to keep the coal folks in the middle happy.

The “not inspirational” critique, does have a substantive element: Hillary isn’t a real liberal. I’m amazed Hillary Clinton hasn’t asked her critics how many of them tried to nationalize the health care system before it was cool? Did they argue kids should be able to sue their parents in Arkansas before it was cool? This may still not be cool in Arkansas.

The complaint persists. Hillary wasn’t quick enough on gay marriage. Hillary needs to promise to raise taxes on the rich. She must distance herself from Wall Street. Seeking a messiah, it appears progressives wish to imbue the office of the presidency with messianic powers.

Senate Republicans may need to write an open letter to the progressives about our system of government. I know it’s hard to accept, but 40 Senators, many of them from states that are barely states, can stop anything. Then there is our most representative branch of government, Congress, which is actually the least representative branch. Thanks to gerrymandering, the country can tilt as far left as she likes, the House will continue to represent old white men who do not believe in government, because somebody should, and the Senate can’t do it alone. Asking Hillary to veer far to the left is begging her to make promises she cannot keep.

For the next little while, whether the president is Hillary, Michael Moore or the re-animated corpse of Susan B. Anthony, progressive legislating will likely be slow going. Although if zombie Susan B. Anthony ran it would be a great campaign just to see what Fox makes of it: “Zombie Candidate Unmarried: What is she hiding?” ; “Giuliani: Anthony wasn’t raised like us, she was born with a soul”; “Is America ready for a Quaker President”.

Those of us (including myself) that fall into this search for inspiration are generally obsessed with politics, but have very little at stake in political outcomes. Its hard for any election result to really impact on the educated urban middle-class. Even the most malevolent Republican would not destroy what we young urban liberals hold dear: NPR, yoga and brunch. In such circumstances, engaging with politics as a means to seek emotional satisfaction or assert my self-righteousness makes perfect sense.

The presidency is the most complex and difficult race to win. It is unrealistic to expect that single person to meaningfully encapsulate our hopes and dreams — especially when our votes and states are mostly in the bank.

Now, it is not that I’m jumping for joy about dynastic politics or the perpetuation of Clinton (Inc.). There are plenty of good reasons to think one family’s dominance over the Democratic Party stifles renewal, new ideas, and entrenches disproportionate power. The controversy over the Clinton Foundation donations is a case in point. But Hillary’s failure to set my heart aflutter no longer bothers me and it should not bother you. For that, we’ve still got Taylor.

People Care Way More About Beyoncé Than They Do About the Environment

Beyoncé

In case you ever doubted Beyoncés reign, a new study has shown that stories mentioning Queen Bey were more than eleven times more common than stories mentioning deforestation. After crunching the numbers, the Project for Improved Environmental Coverage has found that environmental stories make up less than one percent of headlines; Beyoncé alone bested six out of the ten broad environmental topics tracked in 2014. “It is hard to argue that Beyoncé warrants 92 times more mentions than deforestation on network TV news programs,” reads the press release, “given the important role forests play as our planet’s lungs and that many millions of people and species depend on them.” Take a look at the chart below showing just how significantly Beyoncé overshadowed U.S. environmental coverage. Maybe in her next single Bey should include a definition of deforestation?

Confessions of a Skin Care Addict: What Happens When One Vogue Editor Stages Her Own Intervention

Skincare Addict Skincare Products

There are moments in your life when you’re able to see yourself as an omniscient observer—those out-of-body experiences that propel you to look at your life and ask in a Talking Heads refrain, “How did I get here?” One such moment occurred on a recent vacation, when I experienced a pang of terror after accidentally applying a face serum in my nine-step skin care routine in the wrong order. Reading that now, it sounds like a no-sweat misstep, but at the time, it was a nerve-racking game ender that sent me into a spiral of self-loathing. I wish I was exaggerating. How did I get there, you ask?

As a beauty editor, it’s an occupational hazard to amass skin care products in droves. Through recommendations by facialists, chic colleagues, and seriously gorgeous interviewees, I had built an arsenal that consisted of one face wash, one toner, three serums, three creams, and one sunscreen, occasionally throwing in a rosewater spray for good, hydrating measure. The entire routine took at least ten minutes. That’s ten minutes of rubbing and massaging my face. And it all felt so luxurious . . . until I effectively coddled my skin into becoming the corporeal equivalent of a spoiled child willing to publicly embarrass me at the slightest offense.

Things had gone too far. I needed an intervention. For this, I called the New York City dermatologist, Jeannette Graf. “I’m a beauty hoarder, too,” she admitted sympathetically over the phone before offering up a reality check. All I really needed for clean, healthy, and happy skin was one cleanser, one sunscreen, and one retinol-based product. “You want to protect your skin during the day and defend it at night,” explained Graf, who suggested that I ditch the toner, and instead rely on a “pH balancing cleanser” that was designed for my skin type but wasn’t overly fragrant, stripping, or mechanically exfoliating. After which, a simple moisturizer would do the trick; dry complexions like mine could find the right moisture balance with an antioxidant serum followed by a face cream—and one with hyaluronic acid, like Mario Badescu’s Hydrating Moisture cream, would pack an extra punch.

After sealing things off with sunscreen—Graf recommended EltaMD’s Broad Spectrum for its “elegant” use of zinc oxide—I’d be ready for the day with four products or less. Better yet, my nighttime routine could be even simpler—amended by switching my morning serum for a retinol and forgoing the sunscreen. Graf likes Avène’s Eluage because “its natural form of Vitamin A is nonirritating.”

It sounded straightforward enough, but, for a second opinion, I reached out to the ultimate beauty minimalist, fashion stylist Stevie Dance, who manages an enviously healthy complexion without the help of so much as mascara. Naturally, she takes an even more laid-back approach. “I think skin is more reflective of your lifestyle and mental health than it is of an expensive cream, serum, or surgery—when you’re happy, your skin has a different texture than when you’re miserable.”

That being said, Dance does keep a few products on hand, including Tracie Martyn’s Amla Purifying Cleanser (which is rich in alkalizing Vitamin C), SkinCeuticals’s CE Ferulic Acid (an antioxidant serum she refers to as “magic”), and Dr. Hauschka’s Revitalizing Day Cream to lock in hydration.

Combining the advice of both Graf and Dance, I stashed my overcompensating routine and stocked up on five straightforward products—with the exception of Caudalié’s hydrating face mist, which I will never feel complete without. When it comes to the new products that make their way across my desk on a daily basis, I’m getting better at making a tighter edit. Today, my medicine cabinet has never been cleaner, my gym bag and luggage never lighter, and my skin never more balanced. Here’s to doing more with less.

Access to Care Is a Way to Save Transgender Youth’s Lives Today

So far this year, the transgender community has seen a mind-boggling amount of violence and loss.

Whether it is Penny Proud in New Orleans, Louisiana, or Bri Golec in Akron, Ohio, in each case the circumstances are eerily similar: Trans women losing their lives unnecessarily as victims of brutal, violent crimes. Other high profile cases of suicides among transgender individuals, or cases of discrimination suffered by transgender people in either housing or the workplace have captured the nation’s attention by sharing the challenges that transgender people face by being marginalized, othered, harassed, hurt and misunderstood. Collectively these cases have created a rise in social media posts with a poignant and all-too-familiar hash tag, #translivesmatter.

Among all of this loss, it is the Leelah Alcorn case, and others like hers, that I cannot seem to shake from my head as a pediatrician. You may recall that Leelah was the 17-year-old transgender woman who chose to, or was driven to, end her own life. At the time, the case garnered national headlines with the main focus on Leelah’s public social media posts in the weeks preceding her death. These haunting posts discussed her negative experiences with conversion therapy to supposedly “cure” her of her transgender identity.

However, the undiscussed aspect of the Leelah Alcorn case is that access to healthcare, particularly for gender-affirming medical therapies may have saved her life.

Re-read some of her social media posts before she took her life, “I can’t wait until I am 18 to begin transitioning,” and “I can’t wait one more day.” These posts point to her inability to access appropriate healthcare as a potential immediate precipitating factor in her death; one that may have been 100 percent preventable.

I suspect this aspect of the story was not pursued with vigor out of respect to Leelah’s grieving parents, who the media chose to, understandably, not challenge with respect to the rationale behind the decisions they may have made or not made for their child. And it certainly is not my intention to unnecessarily stir the pot, create drama or inflict more pain for on the Alcorn family.

However, there is a larger educational point that needs to be said loud and clear for the benefit of other families and for transgender or gender nonconforming youth. That message is simple: For transgender youth, access to health care services saves lives.

Truth is that in many centers, including the Gender and Sex Development Program that I co-direct at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, adolescents like Leelah shouldn’t have to wait until the age of 18 to begin engaging in gender-affirming care. Youth should and do have the opportunity to begin the process of transitioning in a way that allows them to live life as their authentic self.

Our Gender Program’s multidisciplinary team and other programs models across the country are complete with pediatricians, nurses, child development specialists, mental health providers and endocrinologists all committed to working with youth and families who are seeking advice or guidance in confronting the challenges of raising a gender non-conforming or transgender child. In many instances these individuals are not familiar with sources of support in the community or options related to medical therapies and interventions.

The Endocrine Society and World Professional Association of Transgender Health Professionals (WPATH) have what are now considered widely-used clinical care guidelines that support the use of pubertal blocking medications in certain gender non-conforming children or early adolescents based upon pubertal and developmental age. They also support the initiation of cross sex hormones in transgender young people as young as 16 years of age (and in some case and some centers even younger).

It is not unusual for teams such as ours to encounter parents or families of children that do not initially support these medical interventions — often due to a denial about the child’s authentic gender identity, a lack of education about the safety of potential medical interventions or a deeply rooted personal, religious or cultural objection. In the overwhelming majority of these cases (but certainly not all), we can work effectively with families and individuals to find a common path moving forward, or at the very least finding a path that ensures the safety and well-being of the child or adolescent.

Centers like ours strive to dispel myths that label being transgender as an affectation or pathology as opposed to the stable identity it represents for most individuals. We also work with families to see their children through a broader and more realistic lens than the spectrum of dysfunction that is too often the focus of negative media attention.

For, while it remains true that too many transgender youth are the victims of hate crimes, and too many become homeless or contemplate suicide, this spectrum of dysfunction does not capture the strength, perseverance, pride and resilience that in my professional opinion more accurately captures the spirit of the young transgender people I see each and every day.

Alongside educating families, it is important to educate the adolescents themselves about their individual rights with regard to medical decision-making particularly as it relates to mature minor statutes on the state level or legal emancipation as a last resort for those who may be at the point of crisis or self-harm.

In essence, for many individuals like Leelah, access to one of the many centers across the country that care for gender non-conforming children or adolescents could literally be a lifeline to a future as their authentic selves.

And most importantly, access to care at these sites can save lives starting today.

More Than Manis: A Unisex Guide to Winter Nail Care

When it comes to nail care, ladies aren’t the only ones who need to keep good cuticle. Guys, you know you dig on a no-polish manicure, and who doesn’t like a foot rub? While the nail art and glitter polish trends may be reserved for the ladies and glam-driven dudes, these winter nail care tips from Manhattan celeb manicurist, Erica Marton, also keeps gents in step. Nail, hand, and foot care is a unisex practice, and especially important in the winter, when skin and muscles on our hands and feet can become easily dehydrated and achy. Marton sees her share of athletes in her Meatpacking District salon, The Face Place, where she has worked not only on the nails of Cameron Diaz, Rashida Jones, the late L’Wren Scott, but also Chris Bosh, Gary Shefield, and Q-Tip.

It’s snuggling season, and nothing says sexy like soft, well-cared for hands and feet under the sheets.

From the lowdown on calluses (they actually serve a body good, by protecting it from impact) to the best lotions, supplements, and tips on how to make your winter mani last, this guide has your winter nail care covered. Learn the secret to a foot massage induced nirvana. Want to know what polish is trending this winter? Need the scoop on the insider’s quick-dry secret? How about tips on a heavenly at-home pedi treatment? This guide, with Marton’s expert tips, has got you.

2014-12-17-EricaMartonHeadshot.PNG

For women, clean, polished, and well-shaped nails pull a look together. And if you’re in the buff, polish is the sexiest accessory besides you. I derive pleasure from looking down at the splash of color on my pedicured feet in the shower; what can I say? For men, clean cuticles speak volumes to women, and your soft, pampered feet not only make you feel good, but feel good to whomever you’re rubbing up against on these chilly nights. The only tips you won’t find in this guide are acrylics, as Marton goes au natural and advises women to avoid acrylic nails as they can cause infections. Here are her top nine tips for winter nail care:

1.) Make your polish last in cold weather by choosing a glitter polish (it’s party season after all). Marton says because of the consistency of glitter polish, it’s more durable. Another must, use the miracle product Qtica fast dry drops every couple days to prolong the length of your mani.

2014-12-17-glittermani.jpg

2.) Tell your manicurist to go easy when cutting your cuticle. Says Marton, “You need the cuticle to protect your nail beds. If you cut them aggressively the body has to work harder to repair the injured skin, and in the winter, we need to conserve energy, especially because winter is so hard on the hands.”

2014-12-17-cleancuticle.jpg

3.) Rub coconut oil all over hands before applying hand cream and your gloves. Even if you’re traveling a short distance, your hands are extremely dry in the cold and need extra moisture. Marton’s two-step process ensures silky hands. “The oil softens up the skin just enough for the lotion to actually absorb.” Any coconut oil you find in a place like Whole Foods is sufficient, and Marton’s lotion pick is Weleda’s Skin Food for its ultra-rich all-natural ingredients. She also likes Queen Helene Cucumber Massage Lotion.

4.) Supplements like Biotin are great for nails, but take 6-8 weeks for visible results. In the meanwhile, strengthen nails with Marton’s fave product, Quimica Alemana Nail Hardener. For feet, Kerasal is a game-changer, banishing cracked heels and leaving you with super luxe feet.

2014-12-17-RedpediEricaMarton.jpg

5.) Treat yourself to a poor gal or guy’s at-home pedi. In between spa appointments, or on particularly sluggish days of traipsing through slush, give yourself an at-home treatment to soothe and soften feet. Forget soaking your feet in bath salts; Epsom salts serve no medicinal purpose and end up drying out your skin. Instead, after your shower, dry your toes individually. Then take a warm washcloth (steep in a pot of boiling water) and massage feet, paying special attention to what Marton calls “problem areas” (heels, big toe, and pad of foot.) When done, apply scented Monoi Tiki oil (my favorite aroma is Tahitian Vanilla). Finally, bundle each foot in Saran wrap and a sock to lock in moisture. Keep on for as long as you’d like.

2014-12-17-athometreatment.jpg

6.) Relax your entire body starting with your feet. Marton recommends Yoga Toes, which not only stretch and elongate your toes, but also help relieve bunions, hammertoes, and other problems we get from working out, not stretching feet properly before exercise, walking in heels, or long days on your feet. Says Marton, at the end of the day, “Sit down, pour yourself a glass of wine, and put on those Yoga Toes for just 10 minutes to get that blood flowing!” The gel inserts fit between, above, and beneath your toes to spread them apart and gently away from the ball of your foot, helping to strengthen and realign the muscles in your toes. I’ve tried them, and like any new stretching routine, can be uncomfortable at first. But when they start working, you can feel relief throughout your entire body! This product is the closest thing to reflexology. I suggest you moisten them with water (a misting spray works great) before use, as your toes will go in a lot easier when the Yoga Toes are wet.

2014-12-17-yogatoes.jpg

7.) Never have a pedicurist razor a callus or treat ingrown nails. Marton’s pick is Wicked by essie. “Not only are dark colors stylish, but they bring more attention to the hands and feet, which will make you be sure to care for each the way you should during the winter.”

2014-12-17-deepdarkmaniEricaMarton.jpg

8.) Do you when choosing a polish. There’s something pleasurable about looking at your digits and seeing something that reflects your personal aesthetic. “Treat yourself to what you love. When you catch a glimpse at yourself, you will be a little happier,” says Marton.

10.) The secret to giving a good foot massage is to focus your energy and follow these steps. Rubbing someone’s feet is a very personal experience, and if done right, will leave the recipient basking in pleasure. “I focus my energy on the client,” begins Marton, “and I imagine what she or he went through that day.” After establishing that intimate connection, be thorough in your efforts: Use both hands, and begin with your thumbs, rubbing into the heel of the foot. Then move on to the ball of the foot and gently spend time in the arch, applying as much pressure as is comfortable. Give the bones around the ankle a tender circular massage, and finish by sliding your fingers in between each toe (you can give it a pull if you like; the joint might pop, which is harmless). For bonus points, pay attention to the meat of the calf and Achilles tendon, kneading muscles that will ultimately relax the foot. Lesson learned from amateur reflexology: It might be cold outside, but after a massage like this, feet are left tingling.

We all know what it’s like to chug along on fumes: not much fun. The added problem is that our clients, customers and colleagues also know when we’re exhausted, stressed and hungry. Our diminished condition almost certainly detracts from the work we do.

I want to talk for a moment about taking care of ourselves. I’m going to tear through some of the more obvious ways to do that: get enough sleep, exercise, eat right, don’t smoke, drink a lot of water and not much alcohol. We can’t cheat on these rules for very long without consequences.

I want to suggest another rule, though, that is not so obvious, specifically for us as salon professionals, but anyone devoted to service and the quality of their work could fall prey. It is an ironic hazard of any such profession, I think, that when we spend so much time and attention making our clients beautiful, on making them feel great, that we sometimes neglect ourselves.

We’re certainly not oblivious to our own appearance and happiness but these are probably not our focus. Our clients and our work matter so much that we sometimes overlook our own needs. We see their smiles and that is a terrific source of personal satisfaction. Our own appearance may not seem near so important as the service or product we provide but it certainly sets a tone that translates into value and reputation. That appearance not only affects the experience of our clients but also how we feel about ourselves.

I am not suggesting that we ‘get all dolled up’ for work every day, like we’re headed for the red carpet. I do know, though, that we feel better if we look great and our clients certainly notice.

Try this: Take the time to do something more or different with your appearance some day this week. Step up your clothes or change your makeup. Buy a new pair of really comfortable yet fashionable work shoes that will make standing a lot easier on your body. Some of us already provide our clients with a hand massage while their color is processing. Do that for yourself after work. Run a soothing hot bath and pamper yourself with these same products you so diligently pamper your clients with. Set aside 10 minutes a day to meditate. This is about elevating ourselves at work and at home which results in being happier and healthier overall.

We should regularly make the effort to look great for our clients and for ourselves, but a one-day experiment will highlight the effect. Monitor the outcome. Take note of how other people act toward you. More importantly, reflect on how you feel.

As always, be open to change.

15 Things Your Guests Won't Care About (And 3 Things They Will)

So many of us never entertain at home, fearing that our spaces won’t measure up to other people’s. We all have a tendency to assume that our houses are messier, less stylish and all around more chaotic than those belonging to friends and neighbors. We make excuses to prevent guests from coming in, or issue the type of apologies normally reserved for a particularly gassy pet. We are terribly embarrassed and seek understanding. We avoid having a party until the siren song of Memorial Day (or July 4th or Labor Day) guilts us into returning the favor of others’ hospitality, inspiring a Sunday spent cleaning more in one day than in previous weeks combined.

Really, though, there’s no reason to put yourself through the ringer like that. Unless you can’t walk through your own house without bruising a shin on a careless heap of shoes, chances are your guests won’t notice or even care. Really.

Here is a short list of the things that your guests simply won’t care as much as you will. (And if they do, drop that friend.)

– Your messy fridge
– The ratty toys your pets feel very strongly about
dog with toy
– The fact that your white carpet is now “faintly ivory”
– That you dimmed the lightbulbs to distract from the ring around the tub you can’t quite scrub out
– The fact that you’ve piled everything into your linen closet or attic
– Your significant other’s posters from a previous apartment…that you still can’t stand.
– Disorganized bookshelves
– Your kids’ toy collection
messy bookshelf
– The pile of mail in the entryway
– That your living room’s paint color is slightly darker than you wanted it to be
– The dust on top of the cabinets
– That your patio furniture doesn’t look completely brand new

– That your hand towels aren’t coordinated with the colors in your bathroom (as long as they are clean)
– That your hardwood floors have scratches from living your life
– That you’re using paper plates (as long as they’re not the kind that falls apart if you even glance at them, let alone attempt to place a burger on one of them)

What they will notice:
– If you’re a stressed out mess
woman screaming
– If there isn’t enough food
empty plate
– If their glass isn’t full
