How to Wear Indigo, the Coolest Color You Can Get Right Now

Brands are going back to basics and using genuine indigo dyes for a colorful look that improves with age. As clothes have become less expensive and demand for denim has grown, synthetic blue dyes have almost overtaken the 6,000-year-old practice of using natural indigo. But designers are rediscovering the nuances of this plant-based pigment. It doesn’t just produce the deep, dark shade applied to selvedge jeans and pieces like Raleigh Denim Workshop’s striped chore coat: When aged properly, the living colorant can produce the palest shades of sky blue, seen here on Faherty’s striped T-shirt and Levi’s Made & Crafted’s soft, light Henley.

New App Lets You Match Your Nail Polish To Literally Any Color Ever

Ever watched a sunset and thought to yourself, “Man, I wish I could wear that EXACT shade of purple on my nails?” Well now there’s an app for that.

ShadeScout Nails from FaceCake Marketing Technologies, Inc. is a free app that allows you to match almost any color you can find to its exact match of nail polish. It even gives you a range of options.

All you have to do is take or upload a photo, hover over the color you want to match and press the “Scout” button. The ShadeScout app instantly pulls up a list of brands and polish colors to match your request.

You can even “try on” the suggested colors through the app, as ShadeScout lets users pick the hand model’s skin color, nail length and nail shape. There is also an option to favorite and buy the nail polish you pick.

“It’s about personalization and helping shoppers find exactly what they are looking for,” FaceCake’s founder and CEO Linda Smith told Mashable. “Wanting an instant way to translate brilliant real-life colors into direct product results, discovering new shades that are available for immediate purchase, and to have that ability in a mobile app, were among the inspirations for ShadeScout Nails.”

We tried the app with some of our favorite things:

Macarons are always the most perfect colors. If you want that beautiful shade of marigold, ShadeScout delivers the suggestion of “Atomic Orange” by OPI. But the Formula X shade is a close second.

The Statue of Liberty’s oxidized blue-green hue is iconic. If you want it on your nails, “Artful Dodger” by Butter London looks like the best choice.

In love with the soft pink in the twilight of this picture of Grand Teton National Park? Zoya always has a lot of great pink options but “lady like” by Essie is a great match.

In addition to uploading your own photos, users can also browse through the app’s “Featured Shades” which pulls up trending nail polish colors either from images or celebrity sightings.

Currently, ShadeScout Nails features 25 brands, including China Glaze, Dolce&Gabbana and Julep.

What Your Favorite Go-To Clothing Color Says About You Personality

By Christine Schoenwald

I recently read a piece in The Elephant Journal by Alex Myles where she talks about how the color of our clothes reveals a lot about our personality type. It made me consider how dressing can be a form of personal expression and how the clothes we wear send out messages to the world.

You can tell a great deal about a person by the colors they wear.

Color plays a major role in our lives by the way it influences our moods and emotions. You wouldn’t think that a color can make you feel secure or make you feel un-easy, but it can. When you choose to use a color or avoid it, that action can reveal much about your personality.

Even if you aren’t consciously aware of the symbolic meanings of certain colors, your subconscious is. What one color means to you may have a completely different meaning to me.

Here’s a guide to what the color of your clothing may be saying about you (with or without your knowledge):

Black colors: It used to be that black was the color of mourning. You only wore black while you were grieving. Luckily, wearing black is no longer just to respect the dead, and it’s perfectly acceptable to wear it at any time.

Punk, Goth, and clubs kids are known to wear a lot of black, and almost every woman has that perfect black dress that’s flattering to her body in her closet. Black symbolizes extremes — all or nothing — and is a color of strength, power, sophistication, elegance, and authority.
2015-10-13-1444749997-6960655-black.png
Photo: H&M

Blue colors: Blue soothes and cools. When you wear blue, you’re broadcasting creativity, positivity, peace, loyalty, and you’re saying that you’ve decided to live by your own rules, and by your own truth. Because blue wearers think for themselves, they’re smart, have a quick wit, and are independent.
2015-10-13-1444750101-311204-blue.png
Photo: H&M

Brown colors: When you wear brown, you’re representing all things solid and grounded such as the color of the earth. Brown is the color that people associate with someone who’s stable, smart, and dependable (like the UPS driver).
2015-10-13-1444750163-3124889-brown.png
Photo: H&M

Grey shades: One thing we all know is that there are many different variations, shades if you will, of grey. Wearing grey can wash you out, and make you seem indifferent, depressed, and apathetic. It can also seem suppressive and give off the impression of a lack of confidence. There’s a reason the classic color of sweatpants is grey.
2015-10-13-1444750266-3276750-grey.png
Photo: H&M

Silver colors: Wearing metallic colors like silver isn’t just for hookers or socialites any more; metallic clothing comes in everything from cute tops to sophisticated dresses. If you wear metallic, you’re letting the world know that you aren’t shy, but that you’re adventurous, up for anything, and hip.
2015-10-13-1444750340-2709379-silver.png
Photo: Macy’s

Not everybody can wear metallic; it reflects the light, which will make you look older, so either you’re young when you wear silver, or you’re a bad*ss.

Red colors: If you want to stand out and grab the spotlight, wear red. It’s the color of energy and is the symbol of life. An Indian bride wears red instead of white. Wearing red is empowering and can give you confidence. Red is also the color of sensuality, aggression, passion, and boldness.
2015-10-13-1444750403-7162386-red.png
Photo: H&M

Orange colors: Orange is known as the color that makes new possibilities happen. It’s creative, enthusiastic, and is associated with good times, warmth, and ambition. If you wear orange, you like to be the life of the party, and are in a positive, energizing, and engaging mood.
2015-10-13-1444750483-3690520-orange.png
Photo: H&M

Pink colors: Pink is very much associated with femininity, but when a man is comfortable with both the masculine and the feminine side to his personality, he can really rock a pink shirt or jacket. Pink is the unconditional love color and it’s known to sooth out aggression.
2015-10-13-1444750544-1192361-pink.png
Photo: H&M

Purple colors: Prince’s nickname of His Royal Purpleness is kind of redundant as purple is the color of royalty and is a symbol of wealth. If you want to convey that you’re rich — both of possessions and spirituality — then wear purple. Purple shows that you have a rich inner life, are intuitive, artistic, creative, and have great instincts about people.
2015-10-13-1444750619-3539065-purple.png
Photo: H&M

Yellow colors: There’s no mistaking yellow, as it’s logical, happy, cheerful, and optimistic. It has the power to bring out creativity, but is completely overpowering if too much is used (you don’t want to dress head to toe in yellow or you’ll look like Big Bird). Yellow encourages intelligence and inspiration, and is a good color to wear when you need that added boost to finish a work project or ace those exams.
2015-10-13-1444750674-5277481-yellow.png
Photo: H&M

Green colors: Nature and money are green and both things are very important. Green is a calming color and is associated with generosity, healing, and a rejuvenated state of mind. People who wear green are charismatic and care deeply about the feelings of others.
2015-10-13-1444750729-30744-green.png
Photo: H&M

White shades: Wearing white signifies cleansing and new beginnings. When you put on a white shirt or skirt, you feel as if you’re staring the day with a clean slate, and you appear to have a fresh and bright outlook. White is the color of balance, harmony, purity, and courage.
2015-10-13-1444750796-3886151-white.png
Photo: H&M

The color of clothing we wear tells the world and ourselves a little bit about us. We can use those colors to feel better and brighter. Once you know, you’ll have a secret method to feeling good about yourself and your day, even if that wasn’t the way it started out.

5 Beauty Subscription Boxes Made Especially For Women Of Color

Target, Ulta and Walgreen’s have expanded their beauty aisles in the past three years to include more makeup, hair care and skincare options for women of color. But even these major retailers fall short of meeting every need. That’s where beauty subscription boxes fill a void.

Beauty subscription boxes have completely transformed the way we shop. Instead of wasting money on foundations that might match our skin tone or styling creams that may give us pillow-soft curls, these membership services are a guilt-free way to sample these products.

While there are plenty of beauty subscription boxes sold online, very few are curated with women of color in mind, or come packaged with more than one sample that addresses their concerns. Thankfully, we’ve come across a select few that have managed to get it right, including CurlBox and the new Essence Beauty Box.

According to Essence Beauty and Style Director Pamela Edwards Christiani, “getting these products into the hands of women who may not have known where to find them or knew that they were for them,” was a major reason why the publication finally entered the realm of beauty subscription boxes.

She added, “Here we are with years of beauty experience. We touch and feel everything. We want our audience to have that same experience.”

Want to try beauty subscription boxes? Here are five that cater specifically to women of color.

Eiffel Tower Explodes in Color for Fashion Week

COLOR CHART: Sparkles on the hour weren’t enough for the fashion crowd. So on Wednesday night, the Eiffel tower lit up in an array of colorful animations to mark Paris Fashion Week, an initiative of mayor Anne Hidalgo.
“We use the Eiffel very rarely, only for planetary-size events,” said the politician, who wore a Dior coat. “It’s the commitment of the city, and of the industry of fashion.” She plans to reprise the illuminations every season.
“Paris is backing its designers and fashion. It is a magnificent sector that employs many people and make people dream,” she added.
Inès de la Fressange, Puig fashion chief Ralph Toledano, Dior’s Sidney Toledano, Chanel’s Bruno Pavlovsky and Saint Laurent’s Francesca Bellettini were among fashion folk who helped push the button during a ceremony at the foot of the 1889 metal structure.
Agnès Troublé, the designer behind the agnès b. label and a longtime supporter of Hidalgo, was sporting a dress she designed bearing a photo print of the Eiffel Tower.
“I love the sparkles — one of the most inspiring things France ever did,” said Christian Lacroix, who has been holed up at the Comédie-Française for an upcoming production of “Roméo et Juliette,” directed by Éric Ruf.

Carla Matthews is a single mother struggling to make ends meet and give her daughter Kaleigh a decent upbringing.  When Kaleigh’s absent father Seth—a famous alpine climber who never wanted to be tied down—begs for a second chance at fatherhood, Carla is hesitant because she doesn’t want to pin her hopes on a man who is always seeking another mountain to scale. A man who was never willing to stay put in one place and raise a family. But when Seth’s plane goes missing after a crash landing in the harsh Canadian wilderness, Carla must wait for news…  Is he dead or alive? Will the wreckage ever be found? One year later, after having given up all hope, Carla receives a phone call that shocks her to her core. A man has been found, half-dead, floating on an iceberg in the North Atlantic, uttering her name.  Is this Seth? And is it possible that he will come home to her and Kaleigh at last, and be the man she always dreamed he would be? “Julianne MacLean knows what her audience likes…compelling characters and a soul-baring journey of love." — Reader to Reader

Here’s Why Some Men’s Beards Are A Different Color Than Their Hair

Judging by what’s on the Internet, we understand why it might seem like every single guy in the world has either a beard on his face or a bun on his head (we’ve certainly given our fair share of coverage to this important subject of our time).

So with all this hair flying around, we were reminded of one of life’s great mysteries: Why are some guys’ beards a different color than the rest of their hair?

We turned to dermatologist Dr. Bobby Buka, founder of Greenwich Village Dermatology in New York, who said it basically comes down to pigments and genetics.

“The difference between red hair and blonde hair or brown hair is different types of melanin,” Buka said, referring to the pigment packs that bring color to our hair (without it, our hair is white).

One type of melanin, a very light type called pheomelanin, is responsible for blonde or red hair, and eumelanin is the darker melanin found in darker-toned hair. How it gets distributed through the shaft of each hair and in what combinations is what determins our hair color, and it can vary by each individual follicle.

“The other component that contributes to color is the distribution of the melanin from the base of the hair follicle to the rest of the shaft,” Buka said. “That transfer process is genetic, and so redheads have more pheomelanin and their pigment stays at the base of the hair follicle, and black-haired people have more eumelanin and transfers throughout the shaft.”

The same goes for each follicle on your head, so those around your jaw and neck might have a different eumelanin-to-pheomelanin ratio than say, what’s on the top of your head.

For what it’s worth, our skin has pigments to protect ourselves from ultraviolet rays, but Buka pointed out that our hair doesn’t need UV protection. So why is there a biological reason that our hair would have pigments? “I can’t see why we would have one,” he said.

It seems some mysteries still need to be solved.

Do Trans People Of Color Have A Harder Time Being Accepted?

Model, actress, and designer Isis King may have been born biologically male, but ever since childhood she knew she was woman. Establishing a transgender identity does not come easy though, and at 23, Isis was homeless, living at a New York City LGBT shelter. After finding work as a background model for an America’s Next Top Model photo shoot, host Tyra Banks took an interest in her, and asked Isis be a part of the show’s next season. Within months, Isis was in the national spotlight as the first transgender contestant on Top Model, and she has used her platform to follow her dreams ever since – attending college for fashion design, expanding her modeling and acting career, and serving as an activist for transgender people everywhere.

Struggling for acceptance

With all the recent attention on Caitlyn Jenner, the transgender community has been in the spotlight like never before. But there is still a long way to go when it comes to acceptance and visibility for those with a little less star power. “There have been 17 murders of trans people of color in 2015 alone,” says Isis, “and there are just not a lot of opportunities for trans women of color in general.” Trans women of color have “usually no privilege” says Isis, and often have had troubled upbringings. “When you’re ostracized, when you’re kicked out of the house when you’re young, it can be difficult to find opportunity,” says Isis. Some women resort to sex work, a “dangerous profession” that unfortunately is the only job many ostracized transgender women can get. Progress is still a process; Isis implores that we are “trying to create more opportunities to make the world easier and safer for transgender women”.

Nubian Skin: Embracing Color

2015-08-19-1440021398-3272554-NubianSkinchair.jpg

This originally appeared on Mr. Refined Lifestyle Magazine, where Ronda is a contributing writer.

For years, women of color have struggled with the fashion and beauty industry’s lack of diversity in makeup, lingerie, and hosiery. Nowhere is this more evident than shopping for “nude.” Unfortunately, my shopping excursion left me feeling like the Buzzfeed video of black women trying on “nude” makeup, lingerie, and hosiery. Frustrated, exasperated, and annoyed best describe my experience.

Enter Ade Hassan, the entrepreneur and wonder woman behind Nubian Skin. “Nubian Skin launched with a carefully edited collection of lingerie and hosiery to provide the essential underwear needs of women of colour.” Not only do they offer a variety of skin tones, but this is sexy and feminine. After reading my article, Revisiting My Roots – Happy Nappy, I had a chance to speak to Ms. Hassan.

Mr. Refined: First, thank you for taking time to speak with me. I must say that I am enamored by your product. I love your motto: “Empowering Women. Embracing our Colour.” What was your inspiration?

Ade Hassan (AH): Thank you for the mention in your article. We’re a startup so our marketing budget is word of mouth. My inspiration was the general frustration of looking for nude pantyhose and defaulting to black because nude was not in my shade.

Mr. Refined: How did you get started?

AH: I left banking and was working as a consultant. It was 2011 and I was not particularly happy in the job. That is when I had the idea for Nubian Skin. I texted a friend and said, “I finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up!” I knew that I would need to save a considerable amount of money to fund the business, so I went back to finance. However, working in the finance industry is incredibly demanding, and it’s nice making a good amount of money, so that was a bit of a distraction. When you’re buying designer shoes and going on fun holidays, it’s hard not to lose focus.

I couldn’t shake the idea even if I had wanted to. My mother was instrumental in making sure I kept my eye on the prize! She is my biggest cheerleader and helped me get back on track. She was in it for the pantyhose and never missed an opportunity to remind me that she needed them in her colour! In the summer of 2012, I spent about a month in New York and stayed with a good friend of mine. I had not told many people about the idea, but she went to Harvard Business School and I wanted to float some things by her. She thought the idea was brilliant. The following year, for my birthday, she sent me a card that said, “It’s time to start living the life you’ve always imagined.” The next day, I registered the company and trademark.

Being an entrepreneur isn’t quite as glamorous as it looks. Right now it definitely doesn’t pay like working in finance. It’s a sacrifice and was a big adjustment – I’ve had to get rid of my handbag habit.

Mr. Refined: The women in your photos are various shades of brown. I especially love the photo shoot with the models in curlers in salon chairs. It’s reminds me of Annie Lee‘s art, but with a modern take – sexy and fabulous. I immediately identified with the models.

AH: The idea came to me while I was at the Cheeky Parlour nail salon. The person doing my nails mentioned that they also did makeup and hair. I needed a makeup artist and hair stylist for the photo-shoot. I asked if they did photo-shoots. The inspiration took off from there. I did not want images that were hyper-sexualized. I wanted them to be identifiable, as you said, “That could be me.” I wanted to celebrate women of color. If you watch the behind the scenes video, you will see that each of the models have such great personalities. They were inspired by what we were doing and that shows.

Mr. Refined: I love the descriptions of the skin tone varieties. They make me smile and feel beautiful. Can you explain that process?

AH: During the creative stage, I had to keep a notebook on my bedside table as so many thoughts and inspiration came to me at night. Silly little things like the well-known phrase “the darker the berry the sweeter the juice” kept repeating, so I decided that Berry had to be the name of my darkest shade. The tones took a year to develop. There was no precedent. First, I went to makeup counters to match the tone. The swatches came back wrong. We needed to make sure the red, yellow, and blue undertones came through to show the differences in tones. There was a lot of tweaking.

Mr. Refined: How can readers support Nubian Skin?

AH: Simply talking about it with friends and on social media helps get the name out. Retailers operate on a “bottom-line.” If there is a demand, then they will supply it. So the next step is telling retailers, “We want this brand.” Request it.

We just ask that consumers be patient with us. We’re a startup and new company. We’re working on bigger cup sizes for the bras. We are constantly listening to customer feedback to improve the brand.

Mr. Refined: I know you ship globally. However, where can US readers find your product or request their favorite department store stock your product?

AH: We are currently in 15 Nordstrom stores in the US. Based on consumer demand, they will expand our brand to more stores. We need consumers to use their buying power and voices to let retailers know there is demand for our product.

In the upcoming weeks, our brand will be featured at Bra*Tenders, located in Midtown Manhattan. Follow us on Twitter and Instagram for details on the date, time, and location.

Lots of Beautiful Hair at Teen Choice, Some With Splash of Color

Teen Choice delivered! Rita Ora added a light breeze of pink to her signature platinum blonde tresses and Britney Spears, honored as a style icon, splashed her ends with blue and purple to create what might even be described as an ombre.

All the stars collecting awards in Los Angeles for best movies, acting and music were, of course, beautiful. Most of them stuck with recent trends of natural looking cuts and colors with subtle, soft color transitions. We didn’t really see any big departures from what’s been popular.

Winning an award as a TV comedy actress, “Glee” star Lea Michele stayed with her long layers and caramel highlights. What can you say? It works!

Teen Choice for best TV drama went to the cast of “Pretty Little Liars.” Accepting the award were cast stars including Lucy Hale, who does a lot of long brown layered wavy hair, recently went short with a bob, but then had extensions to do a long ponytail in a cool, slick-back look to accept her award with other cast members. Also going with a center part and slick-back look from the “Pretty Little Liars” cast were Janel Parrish and Shay Mitchell.

Actress and singer Zendaya (star of Disney’s “Undercover KC”) went with a ballerina bun high on top to walk the Teen Choice blue carpet. She changes the style of her dark, brown hair often, and the results are nearly always fantastic.

So, no new trends emerged but we saw lots of beautiful hair. Love those kids! Love change!

2 Steps to Choose a Trendy, Fun Hair Color

I am really loving the trendy and fun hair colors I am seeing all over the place these days. Have you been considering taking the plunge and coloring your tresses with a funky and fun color like pink, grey, purple, blue, orange or green? How do you know which of the fun colors and which intensity of the colors work best with you?

Choosing a fun hair color that doesn’t overpower you is a key ingredient to joining in on the fun hair color trend while giving off your best. If you choose a fun hair color that overpowers you, you could look dull, worn, outdated, odd, unbalanced, and even older.

Here are 2 steps to choose a trendy and fun hair color that works with you to give off a vibrant, healthy, balanced and potentially more youthful glow.

1. Choose hair colors that align with your skin undertone: Hair colors are grouped by undertone in hair color swatch books that you find at hair salons — choose a hair color that matches your skin undertone. If you are unable to do a formal undertone analysis with a trained color analysis professional, ask your hair colorist if he/she can determine by looking at you if you have a cool, warm or a neutral undertone.

For instance, if you have a cool undertone you will want to avoid orange, red, yellow, warm pinks, warm blues and warm green colors in your hair. If you have a warm undertone, you will want to avoid cool pinks, cool blues, most violets, cool grey and cool green colors in your hair.

2. Choose hair colors and intensities that align with your seasonal color palette: The best way to do this is by having a color analysis consultation and/or working with a hair colorist who has significant training and experience identifying what your most optimal hair colors are.

Before taking the fun hair color plunge, I also advise thinking through whether an all-over solid fun color look versus more subtle highlights or subtle painting in of the hair color works best with you and your lifestyle.

To show you a few picture examples of the steps above, I recruited a few of my colleagues at Studio Fontana in Toronto, Canada to participate in this blog.

Here is Cheryl Gushue.
She has a warm undertone and her best colors fall within the warm seasonal color palette (flow between Autumn and Spring seasons).

Cheryl’s optimal, more natural hair color(s) include: warm browns and golden blonde.
Her optimal fun hair colors include warm, medium value/intensity colors such as: deep coral, warm navy, warm purple, light orange. Cheryl should avoid cool, overly deep and overly light hair colors.

Here is Katie Fontana.
She has a cool undertone and her best colors fall within the cool seasonal color palette (flow between Winter and Summer seasons).

Katie’s optimal, more natural hair color(s) include: cool deep brown or blue-black.
Her optimal fun hair colors include cool medium intensity colors such as: charcoal gray, deep raspberry, red violet, purple magenta, blue plum, burgundy, hunter green. Katie should avoid warm (like orange), overly intense and overly soft hair colors .

Here is Melissa.
She has a neutral undertone (leaning warm) and her best colors fall within the muted seasonal color palette (flow between Autumn and Summer seasons).

Melissa’s optimal, more natural hair color(s) include: soft, muted browns.
Her optimal fun hair colors include softer colors such as: soft gray, soft teal green, celery, soft navy blues, rose beige, soft burgundy, grape. Melissa should avoid bright, high intensity hair colors.

Here is Ashley.
She has a neutral undertone (leaning cool) and her best colors fall within the Light seasonal color palette (flow between Summer and Spring seasons).

Ashley’s optimal, more natural hair color(s) include: blonde.
Her optimal fun hair colors include lighter colors such as: pearl gray, pink ash, soft lemon, denim blue, pastel turquoise, lilac. Ashley should avoid overly warm (like orange) or overly cool hair colors.

OK, so if I signed up my colleagues to do this, I must be willing to do it too!…
Here is Carol (me).
I have a cool undertone and my best colors fall within the True Summer seasonal color palette.

My optimal, more natural hair colors include: ash browns or ash blonde.
My optimal fun hair colors include toned colors such as: most grays, pink ash, rose, raspberry, lavender, powder blue, steel blue, smokey green. I should avoid high intensity, tints, shades and warm (like orange) hair colors.

Now you have 2 steps with a few examples to help you reveal which trendy and fun hair colors will work with you to give off your best.

You can either wear your hair color or have your hair color wear you. My choice is always for you to wear your hair color so we see the best and most vibrant you.

I hope this blog post inspires you to wear your authenticity!

In The Future, You Could Control Your Shoes’ Color With Your Phone

Black sneaker not really gelling with your outfit? Pop open an app on your smartphone and add a streak of yellow.

+rehabstudio, a company that makes innovative marketing campaigns, recently unveiled its concept for the “Shift Sneaker,” a shoe comprised of material that can communicate with your smartphone and shift colors on demand.

A look at how the Shift Sneaker would work. (Source: +rehabstudio)

“Shift Sneaker explores what might be possible in the near future based on various existing materials, which currently only have industrial applications, and forecasted materials like phase change fibres and meta-materials, which are still to be made,” Mike Veitch, Managing Partner at +rehabstudio, told The Huffington Post via email.

In theory, there are a lot of clever applications for a smart shoe that could change colors on a dime. +rehabstudio posted a few ideas on its website: You could take a selfie to automatically swap the color of your shoes to match your clothing; a “running pack” could make the sneakers glow different colors depending on whether or not you’re on pace; a “cycling pack” would keep folks safe at night with bright, glowing colors.

Don’t get too excited, though. The sneakers are still very much a theoretical concept. You won’t see them until phase-change fibers and meta-materials are actually manufacturable for consumer products, Veitch said. But when that happens, he imagines these high-tech kicks might cost about as much as an average shoe — and generate more money from color packs on your smartphone, of course.

For now, wearable technology like the Apple Watch or Android Wear smartwatches might represent the best opportunity for chameleonic fashion. The DressWatch app lets you snap a picture of your clothes and change your smartwatch’s face to match the color palette, for example.

And “adaptive” surfaces might soon crop up in the world around you. Veitch told HuffPost that +rehabstudio is currently making smart storefronts a reality, meaning you could get a personalized experience the moment you walk past a shop window. Neat!

Summer’s Prettiest Nail Color: Yes Way Rosé x Tenoverten’s Limited Edition Polish

yes way rose nail polish tenoverten

Nail polish collaborations—with fashion labels, magazines, and celebrities—are a regular part of the beauty conversation these days, and Tenoverten is no stranger to the concept. In recent years, the New York City–based mani/pedi destination has joined forces with J.Crew and SoulCycle on limited-edition custom shades. Lacquer and liquor make for decidedly less likely bedfellows, yet the nail brand’s latest partnership—a blush pink manicure color created in partnership with Yes Way Rosé—feels entirely logical to those familiar with the nuances of the Provençal wine’s distinctive peach-tinged hue.

“They’re a perfect pairing,” says Yes Way Rosé cofounder Erica Blumenthal, who started thinking about the connection between a glass of rosé and a well-manicured hand while sitting down to drinks with Tenoverten cofounder Nadine Ferber at the New York City boîte Tiny’s and the Bar Upstairs (where the façade just so happens to be pink). And Blumenthal’s reasoning goes one step beyond aesthetics: She and partner Nikki Huganir founded their popular wine content and commerce platform on a love for drinking the varietal—as well as the free-spirited, summer-loving culture that goes hand in hand with the chilled, warm-weather beverage. Their universally flattering pink polish, appropriately called “Rosé Vibes,” is no exception—channeling the optimistic hue, while acting as an unexpected neutral that works on hands and feet.

According to Ferber, the polish (which launches tomorrow) fills a seasonal color gap in Tenoverten’s self-titled collection. Plus, she adds, it was an excellent way to harness the “really creative and fun energy” that has earned Yes Way Rosé its loyal legions of Instagram followers—not to mention its own wine, a just-launched Napa Valley pinot noir rosé called Summer Water that seems destined to disappear just as quickly off shelves.

Yes Way Rosé X Tenoverten Rosé Vibes Nail Polish, $ 18, available June 30, 2015 exclusively at shop.yeswayrose.com, and Tenoverten salons for a limited time.

David Byrne recruits stars for high school color guard mash-ups

A color guard/pop-music mash-up "doesn't quite fit a category that people can get their heads around," explains David Byrne. Which means it's exactly the kind of thing that would excite the boundary-pushing musician, artist and author. Color guard, which is popular in schools across the United States, consists of teams doing synchronized, explosive dance moves with props like flags, fake rifles and sabers, usually accompanied by marching bands at football games and pep rallies.

Mommy-and-Me Hair Color: The Daughter-Inspired Dye Jobs of Sarah Jessica Parker, Gisele Bündchen, and More

Gisele Bündchen and Vivian Lake Brady

Not so many years ago now, highlights involved tiny, meticulously threaded strands and countless foils—an arduous process that has given way to a far more natural aesthetic. In fact, these days, the best hair-color cues come from a summer spent basking in the surf or, say, the pristine sun-streaked pitch of a child’s uncontrived mane. And from a look at our favorite celebrities, the latter has provided more than its fair share of pitch-perfect inspiration.

Sarah Jessica Parkers artfully painted ombré looks like an amalgam of her twins’ Marion and Tabitha’s respective toffee and flaxen tones, while Salma Hayeks daughter Valentina might have helped the actress fine-tune the rich brunette shade she was born with. We wouldn’t be surprised if Gisele Bündchens legendary beachy mane was based on her toddler Vivian’s multidimensional blonde—or if Lily-Rose Depp played muse for Vanessa Paradiss signature golden blonde hue. Just in time for Mother’s Day, here’s a look at why great hair really does run in the family.

Dressing for Your Hair Color: Olivia Palermo, Gisele Bündchen, and More Take the Monochromatic Look to a New Level

Olivia Palermo

Just when we thought that matching your lipstick to your coat was the epitome of thoughtful polish, along comes the next level of artfully calibrated accessorizing, which requires a highly nuanced approach to dressing for your hair color. Spotted in New York last night, Constance Jablonskis creamy neutral look felt like a tonal extension of her soft blonde ombré. Offering further proof that pale shades can flatter fair hair, Cate Blanchett stepped out in a white suit and blush shirt, while Poppy Delevingne underscored her flaxen waves in Paris with a shimmering Chanel frock—a principle Emma Stone used to amp up her fiery bob with a claret red dress earlier in the month. Never one to leave a single detail up to chance, Olivia Palermos cognac leather jacket brought out the highlights in her brunette blowout, while Gisele Bündchens sun-streaked strands had even more dimension thanks to a brilliantly coordinated mix of taupe leather and ivory shearling. Considering that head-to-toe black is having a moment, Kendall Jenner’s raven hair and jet-colored dress might be all the convincing you need to take obsidian plunge. Here, seven case studies in the subtle impact of a tone-on-tone color scheme.

“Everybody loves magic.” Especially Emma Stone. Here, she shows us a few tricks:
