Of Course ‘SNL’ Clowned Kanye West & Donald Trump’s Oval Office Shenanigans [Video]

Kanye & Trump SNL parody

Source: NBC screen cap / NBC

Kanye West embarrassed himself while visiting the Oval Office and performing a minstrel show on Thursday (Oct. 11). So it was a given that Saturday Night Live would recreate their bizarre at best lovefest.

With Alec Baldwin once again playing Donald Trump and Chris Redd portraying Kanye West, the jokes were flying.

The conclusion, Yeezy is the Black version of Cheeto. “Oh my God, he’s Black me,” said SNL Trump (in his inner voice) after witnessing a man with an ego and narcissism to match.

All things considered, where is the lie?

Worth noting is that Baldwin also included a nod to his headass notion that Black people love him because of Trump portrayal.

Also, props to the SNL writer who include the “scoopity dee whoop” Yeezy lyrics slander (see: “Lift Yourself”).

Holly Fulton to Lead Fashion Design Course

NEW ROLE: British designer Holly Fulton is taking an academic turn, becoming head of fashion at the Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts.
Fulton, known for her graphic prints and bold use of color, had previously worked with students as a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art and Kingston University and also as part of her global ambassador role at Graduate Fashion Week.
“Education is something I am passionate about and this position feels very natural for me. I have had some great mentors in my career and now I am in the right place to share what I’ve learned with students, while helping them to develop their own style and practice. I intend to give them an experience they would not be able to get at any other university,” said Fulton, who will continue to design her own label.
Karin Askham, head of collage at the CSVPA, an independent arts school, said that it was important for the school to appoint a practicing fashion designer who can equip students with the skills needed for working in the industry today.
“Holly brings both a global understanding of the industry, with the success of her brand in Asia and the U.S., as

Where Are All the Models? On Vacation, of Course

models on summer vacation

‘Twas the month before Fashion Week, when all through the city, not an agency was stirring, not even a model. Forgive us for getting into the holiday spirit, but these few weeks before the madness of Fashion Month hits are considered a mass holiday—or rather exodus—for every catwalker. Want to book a pretty poser? Good luck, they’re hitting the beach. Want to merely speak with them for a quote? Try getting through—agents have fled the city, too!

So where exactly are your favorite faces off to? The Spanish island of Ibiza was a hot spot, with the likes of the well-balanced Natasha Poly delicately perching on a yacht railing, while Romee Strijd took a moment to gaze at the lush coast nearby. Edie Campbell and her sister, Olympia Campbell, skipped the tropics in favor of hiking in Norway, while Anna Ewers followed suit on a scenic road trip to Alaska. The four-legged were not forgotten, either: Amanda Murphy kicked it in Hawaii on horseback, while Constance Jablonski enlisted a mule to trawl the trails of Greece’s Santorini.

Still, not all embarked solo-style—plenty of models traveled in troupes: Haute hooligans Binx Walton and Lexi Boling headed to Jamaica with Harry Brant and Catherine McNeil to live large, while Jacquelyn Jablonski and a newly engaged Hanne Gaby Odiele kept it cool in Puerto Rico, their beaux in tow.

But leave it to Josephine Skriver to skip the sand-strewn season and sun-glazed selfies—the model basked in the bright-light delights bright-light delights of Tivoli Gardens in her hometown, Copenhagen. After all, there’s nothing like a staycation—even for the jet set.

An Open Letter to Gatsby, Daisy, Tom, and Of Course Tobey Maguire.

2015-08-14-1439594973-704477-flapper.png

Hello ladies and gents,

I figured it was about time to address the marital quagmire you find yourselves in. Despite having had the benefit of thousands of literary critics and moviegoers pick apart your lives over the years, none of you, for reasons we can only speculate, has ever sought the practical advice of a divorce lawyer. Enter me.

We all know your story: Daisy and Tom married young; Gatsby was in love with Daisy all along, stalked her for years and moved into the house across the pond so he could stalk her more easily (Gatsby I’ll say it: you creepy); Tom was, shall we say, a bit of a ladies’ man; Gatsby, seeing the marriage wasn’t so good, made a move on Daisy, and then stuff really hit the fan. Since then, your social engagements have been nothing but awkward, and I’m guessing you’d all really prefer to just get on with your lives.

I mean, it’s not like we haven’t seen this chain of events play out before (give or take a few champagne-drenched flapper parties). It’s more or less the oldest story in the book. And I want to make it clear up front, I’m not blaming any of you. Well, except Tom, obviously you’re a swag-bellied canker blossom, but otherwise you’re all fantastic people. The issue here is not to apportion blame, but really to just give you some tips for handling this situation in a way that’s going to allow you all to escape this doomed marriage with the least amount of headache. I’ve outlined a simple plan below.

Daisy, read up on Pope Francis. Being Catholic, I know you have your issues with divorce, which seems to be the reason you’ve stuck it out with Tom for as long as you have. But, in a brilliant plot twist, the Pope has let us know with a slight chuckle that remarrying is actually fine! They were just kidding before.

Daisy and Gatsby, stop sleeping together. Just for a while. Since Tom was having affairs long before you were, Daisy, and you’ve got the utility receipts from his Fornication Condo to prove it, you’ll probably be all right–but just to be extra careful during the divorce, keep it in your pants until the papers are signed.

Daisy, get character witnesses. That is, if you want custody of your daughter, who is fortunately still young enough that she won’t remember any of this if you act now, have a list of people lined up who can vouch for you being the primary caregiver (and for Tom being, well, Tom).

Tom, prepare to pay up. You’re filthy rich and I’m inclined to believe no judge is going to find you a sympathetic character. Behold: your wife is embracing the liberté of the Roaring Twenties! And it’s going to cost you a pretty penny.

Gatsby and Daisy, keep my card. I sense you’ll be needing it in five to seven years. To quote your great wisdom, Mr. Gatsby, “Repeat the past? Why of course you can!”

Tobey Maguire, get the hell out of there. Just go. This is a tangled web (get it?!) and these people are crazy.

Respectfully,
James J. Sexton

Of Course, Ciara Is The Center Of The Russell Wilson Contract Extension Story

Can the men of Ciara’s life ever get a moment for themselves? First Cici took some heat for the release of Future’s No. 1 album, Dirty Sprite 2 and now she is being slandered following news of a $ 87 million Russell Wilson contract extenstion with the Seattle Seahawks.

Did we mention $ 60 million is guaranteed?

Via Seahawks.com

Wilson’s new deal is just the latest, and given the position he plays, arguably the most important, contract extension handed out by the Seahawks in recent years. When Pete Carroll and John Schneider took over in 2010, they went about building through the draft what would eventually become a championship team. And after loading a roster with talented young players, the next phase became identifying and keeping as much of the core intact as the league’s salary cap would allow.

Wilson, who is now locked up through 2019, has already accomplished an extraordinary amount in his first three seasons in Seattle. Not only did he become the first quarterback to start two Super Bowls in his first three seasons, he is also the winningest quarterback through three seasons with 36 regular-season victories and 42 including the postseason.

Naturally he was happy.

And naturally she was happy for him.

But the cynics couldn’t keep from shining over the news and what we got is plenty of comical memes and what not. Even from Wilson’s peers.

Ducklings Rescued Using Hooters Fry Basket, Because Of Course

You know what they say about Hooters — great wings.

The breastaurant chain doesn’t serve duck wings, but it services ducklings in distress! A Hooters in Lakeland, Florida was instrumental in rescuing six ducklings trapped in a storm drain on Sunday, Lakeland Fire Department officials told The Huffington Post.

A Hooters manager called Polk County Animal Control and the fire department to report that the little duckies couldn’t get out of a storm drain outside the restaurant. But rescuers had a problem too: The half-dozen, adorable victims were deep below a grate, and kept falling through their would-be saviors’ dog-catching net. The quick-thinking Hooters manager grabbed a fine-mesh basket used for frying and gave it to firefighters, who connected to a pole to catch all six Mallard ducklings.

All of the cuties are safe — and none of them were fried.

The Lakeland Fire Department posted images of the duckling rescue to its Facebook page.

“There is no sign of spring more fruitful and heartwarming than fresh flowers or plucky little yellow ducklings,” the department wrote. “All six ducklings were unharmed and reunited with their mother in a nearby pond shortly after the rescue was complete.”

First Nighter: Flying Off Course While ‘Finding Neverland’

The story of how J. M. Barrie’s friendship with Sylvia Llewelyn Davies and her sons Peter, Jack, George and Michael led to the classic Peter Pan is a sweet one, which was tributed in Allen Knee’s play The Man Who Was Peter Pan and the 2004 film Finding Neverland. Now Harvey Weinstein, who produced the movie, brings it to Broadway and the Lunt-Fontanne as a musical.

The tuner has prompted vast coverage as it made its way from London to the Manhattan destination, and it would be a pleasure to say that all the difficulties stirred up as impresario Weinstein piloted this one in has resulted in a whopper of show. Not to be. With Matthew Morrison as Barrie, Kelsey Grammer as his longtime theater producer Charles Frohman, current script by James Graham and current score by Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy, it’s at best a treasure chest of only mixed delights. (The librettist and songwriters for the earlier London production were let go with much attendant publicity and possibly tidy severance checks.)

It’s not that the present cast and production creative team aren’t working up to high levels. Morrison as a successful playwright dry of ideas but thick with Scottish accent is earnest and sturdy as he befriends the now fatherless and therefore somewhat lost Llewelyn Davies boys. Grammer is an affable American expat adorning the London stage with Wilde, Shaw and Barrie and serving as a model for Captain Hook. Laura Michelle Kelly is appealing as a widow trying to raise her sons to the best of her ability. The Llewelyn Davies boys — played at the performance I saw by Christopher Paul Richards, Sawyer Nunes, Alex Dreier and especially Aidan Gemme as the Peter who lends his name to the averse-to-growing up Barrie hero — have charm to spare.

Set designer Scott Pask, costumer Suttirat Anne Larlarb, lighting designer Kenneth Posner, sound designer Jonathan Deans and projections designer Jon Driscoll (is there a musical nowadays that doesn’t rely heavily on projections?) work hard for a generally positive payoff. Less so choreographer Mia Michaels, whose dancers do a lot of jumping up and down and back-bending to little reward. Their first workout — as a haughty London opening night throng — must have them rubbing the liniment on heavily the second they leave the stage.

To give credit where it’s due, the Finding Neverland kick-off has great promise. A Tinkerbelle spark darts about even before the curtains are pulled back. When they are, Melanie Moore is revealed as a spinning Peter Pan appearing to Barrie as he broods on a park bench about his writer’s block.

The expectations raised, however, begin dissipating slowly and then accelerates as Graham’s libretto takes its time in exposition. (Graham is the same dramatist whose first-rate play This House brightened London’s National Theatre a few years back and deserves to be imported.) Almost immediately, Barrie is surrounded by the Llewelyn Davies boys pretending to be pirates. From then on little hints at eventual Peter Pan ingredients are dropped, popped and plopped into the action.

Peter Llewelyn Davies is a boy who wants very much to grow up and is therefore losing out at childhood. And on it goes. Barrie owns the shaggy dog Porthos (played by shaggy dog Jack), who eventually is the model for — you guessed it — Nana. Everyone knows that authors draw for their visions from the world they observe, but with this Barrie it happens so, uh, doggedly.

To gussy up the proceedings, Graham, Barlow, Kennedy and director Diane Paulus, relying on her Pippin-like circus instincts, turn to all sorts of diversions. One of the fussiest is Frohman’s acting troupe. They behave like something from Charles Dickens but diluted and cheapened in the transition. For example, reluctant to perform in the radically different first Peter Pan production, they balk but are bucked up in a number that incorporates familiar nursery rhymes. Curiously, when one of them gets to “London Bridge is falling down,” the words “my fair lady” are cut off. You don’t need to wonder why.

Nevertheless, that’s probably the best Finding Neverland number, whereas the worst is the first-act closer. Called “Stronger,” it has Morrison as Barrie realize his power to write Peter Pan. It strikes him as a pirate ship, complete with rigging, materializes around him. He ends standing high above the stage wielding a sword. Were Basrrie alive to see it for himself, what might he have thought of this overwrought image?

Since this is a musical, the score is the biggest disappointment. Barlow and Kennedy, both alumni of Take That, the hot ’90s British boy group — apparently never having written for the stage before — have listened closely to Oliver! and Mary Poppins but applied loose craftsmanship to, particularly, the lyrics. Off-rhymes have become increasingly acceptable in Top 40 realms, but only come across as lazy in a period piece such as Finding Neverland. For an example, in one song “rhyme” is rhymed with “mind.” That’s right. They don’t even bother to rhyme “rhyme.”

Barlow and Kennedy don’t have much better luck or skill with the ballads they need to contrive when Barrie — whose marriage to Mary (Teal Wicks) falls apart — finds himself in love with Sylvia Llewelyn Davies. They can organize ’90s power ballads but not imbue them with anything that clings to the memory once the last full notes fade.

Weinstein has certainly toiled industriously to render the movie he produced into a hit. Maybe the hordes of Peter Pan fans will turn it into one. If not, here’s a suggestion for him: Lewis Carroll (Lewis Dodson) began Alice in Wonderland as an entertainment for the sisters Alice, Edith and Lorina Liddell. That 1860s situation couldn’t parallel Barrie’s 1890s serendipity more closely.

Perhaps Weinstein might have a more rewarding time morphing that piece of literary history into a musical — turning thank heaven for little boys into another case of thank heaven for little girls. (Without, of course, appropriating the Alan Jay Lerner-Frederick Loewe Gigi opener.) The title’s ready and waiting: Finding Wonderland.

Elizabeth Taylor — A New Book Will Reveal the Heart (and the Beauty, of Course!)

“Legends die hard. They survive as truth rarely does,” said the legendary actress Helen Hayes.

•BACK IN the spring of 1976, Elizabeth Taylor, recently and finally separated from Richard Burton (after a disastrous attempt at a second marriage), arrived in Washington D.C. to attend the ballet. She was with her great friend Liza Minnelli and her soon-to-be great friend Halston. Taylor wore a red Halston creation, her famous emeralds and a deep tan. The elite of the nation’s capital went mad.

La Liz danced the night away after the ballet was over. At one point, doing The Hustle with a dazzled politico, one of the star’s earrings flew off. Bedlam reigned until Ardeshir Zahedi, the Ambassador to Iran, found the bauble and re-attached it to ET’s ear.

And, so began Elizabeth’s hot little affair with Ambassador Zahedi, which would lead her eventually to travel, controversially to Iran. (That country was still ruled by the Shah. He and his regime would be overturned in 1979.)

•Taylor and Ardeshir were too hot to handle — the Shah did not approve, nor did American policy makers — and the romance cooled just in time for Elizabeth to run into her next husband, John Warner. He was a wealthy former Sec’y of the Navy, who would soon be bucking for a Senate seat. (He popped this on ET after they wed. She was surprised, but gamely campaigned for Warner, effectively winning the race for him.)

But the one invaluable aspect Taylor took from her Iranian dalliance was meeting the ambassador’s cousin, a young Firooz Zahedi. He became a dear friend, to the end of Elizabeth’s life, and one of her official photographers; he is now wed to NYC real estate maven Beth deWoody.

Firooz is responsible for many of Elizabeth’s most iconic images in the latter part of her career. (It was Firooz who shot AIDS-activist ET for the famous 1992 Vanity Fair cover. She is holding a condom!) In fact, Firooz was photographing Elizabeth’s home in Bel Air for Architectural Digest on the very day she died. (Despite the gravity of her illnesses, everybody expected Elizabeth to recover and make yet another triumphant hospital exit.)

•NOW, Firooz Zahedi is preparing a luscious book of photos and essays on his friend, via Glitterati Inc.. It will be published in February of next year, to coincide with what would have been her 84th birthday. Firooz says, “This may not be the ‘ultimate’ book that Elizabeth deserves, but it’ll shed some light on another side of her, the side you want to get people to know about.” (To a person, everybody who knew Taylor really well cite her generosity, compassion and her bawdy good humor.) The book will include about two-hundred photos, many previously unpublished.

Firooz will donate his share of the book’s proceeds to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

•MONEY IS coming in for director Linda Yellen’s “Kickstarter” effort to complete her movie, The Last Film Festival. This contains the final screen performance of the late great Dennis Hopper. Come on, film fans! This is movie history and you can be a part of it! Be a backer, not just a bystander. Join Jackie Bisset…Robert Redford’s Sundance…Holland Taylor, etc, in this effort.

• WHERE is he now that Democrats and liberals need him so much? I’m talking of the astute retired Barney Frank of Massachusetts!

He is still seen occasionally on MSNBC but that’s really not nearly enough for a man I love who always described himself like this…”How did a disheveled, intellectually combative gay Jew with a thick accent become one of the most effective and funniest politicians of our time?”

We’re talking Barney Frank, who got himself famous as a Democratic political leader against all odds. He struggled for years, rose in Congress, battled for AIDS funding, created the most far-reaching Wall Street reform bill since the Great Depression, helped repeal “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” and retired a short while ago from the Washington fray, much to the dismay of Democrats!

The liberal leader lives in Maine and Massachusetts and is happy at last, retired, with his husband Jim Ready. He had words, when in office, with everyone from Tip O’Neill to Sonny Bono. He knows and knew just about everybody and thing, big or little, going on.

• NOW he has written a book, titled Frank: A Life In Politics from the Great Society to Same-Sex Marriage. It covers his Democratic triumphs over all the realities and relates in delightful candor why a man who was told he “couldn’t win,” ended up a national hero who always won! And he is still making points even when out of office.

Farrar Strauss & Giroux is to be congratulated for bringing back Barney Frank! I wish they could talk him into coming back to Washington.

This hero of mine will sell a lot of candid copies of Frank, even if there is no other living politician today able to compare with Barney’s tireless dedication and sprightly unusual life story!

•AS I write this I am intending to go to the private 60th birthday party for my pal Bruce Willis, hosted by his darling wife, Emma. (This happened Saturday night at Harlow restaurant.)

I will wear my headband saying “Big 60!” in Bruce’s honor. I’m sure a few silly people will think I am lying about my age!

But, 60 is very young to me. I will tell the birthday boy that he celebrates on the day Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase…Dom Perignon was first bottled…the Boy Scouts of America were formed…Ruth Bader Ginsburg became a Supreme Court Justice…Alfred Hitchcock directed Psycho…the Pap Smear was invented…General Sherman said “War is Hell!”…Groucho Marx and W.C. Fields were at the top of their game.

Bruce has joined the immortals! I just adore this movie star. Happy Birthday, Bruce!

•SOMEBODY wrote in to insist we’d given the wrong date for Polly Bergen’s memorial in NYC. We did not. We were correct. However, here’s the info again: Thursday, March 26 at the American Airlines Theater, 3:00 pm. Cookies will follow. It is open to the public.

There’s A ‘Seinfeld’ College Course About Psychological Disorders

Want to binge-watch “Seinfeld” and get a medical degree while you’re at it? No problem.

It’s nothing new that hit TV shows have become the basis for college courses, with everything from “Game of Thrones” to “Breaking Bad” classes. But now, thanks to Dr. Anthony Tobia, an associate psychology professor at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, students are watching “Seinfeld” for homework. The cleverly titled class, “Psy-feld,” allows third and fourth-year medical students in the hospital’s psychiatric rotation to discuss the psychopathology of the episodes and characters. Tobia has even created a massive database of all 180 episodes with teaching points for each.

“You have a very diverse group of personality traits that are maladaptive on the individual level,” Tobia told NJ.com. “When you get these friends together the dynamic is such that it literally creates a plot: Jerry’s obsessive compulsive traits combined with Kramer’s schizoid traits, with Elaine’s inability to forge meaningful relationships and with George being egocentric.”

Tobia is clearly in tune with how younger generations absorb and learn from pop culture today. He has another class where students watch the Coen brothers’ 1996 film “Fargo” and live-tweet the characters’ potential disorders.

The methods seem to be working. One student told NJ.com that watching the TV show is providing more relatable examples than a textbook would. Now we just wonder if the surgery students will be invited to discuss “The Junior Mint.”

Gymnast Kacy Catanzaro Absolutely Crushes ‘American Ninja Warrior’ Obstacle Course

Leave it to a former Division I gymnast to conquer an incredibly difficult obstacle course in front of a live audience and millions of viewers worldwide.

On Monday, when Towson University graduate Kacy Catanzaro took on the finals course in Dallas for competition sports show “American Ninja Warrior,” she not only made it to the final round of the U.S. contest, she also made history.

The 5-foot, 100-pound gymnast became the first female contestant to qualify for the competition’s final round. With her win Monday, she’ll next head to Las Vegas where she’ll go to head-to-head with dozens of finalists from around the country who all conquered each of the physically strenuous stages.

(Story continues below.)

Based on a Japanese competition show, “American Ninja Warrior” debuted on G4 in 2009, before it was picked up by NBC in 2011. Since then, viewership has gradually increased, and the reality show has become a standout in its demographic this summer. In earlier seasons, contestants who made it through the qualifying rounds of the competition were flown to Japan to try their luck at the final course. (“Ninja Warrior” has since duplicated the course in Nevada.)

For the record, no one has ever been crowned winner of the grueling competition in the past five seasons of “American Ninja Warrior,” since no contestant has completed the final course. So Catanzaro certainly has her work cut out for her.

Watch Catanzaro absolutely crush the obstacle course in under nine minutes in the video, above.
