‘Family Group’ Is Fuming Over The Campbell’s Soup Ad With Gay Dads

Well, that was fast.

Days after Campbell’s Soup unveiled a new commercial featuring gay dads, a right-wing group notorious for getting worked up over everything from Toys ‘R’ Us to Chobani yogurt slammed the ad for “normalizing sin.”

In a post on its website, One Million Moms members argued that Campbell’s Soup is “attempting to desensitize viewers” with the clip, which is part of a larger campaign called ”Made for Real, Real Life.”

“Obviously, Campbell’s is sending the message that homosexual men are raising children, whom they wouldn’t have if a woman wasn’t involved, and they are OK with it,” One Million Moms wrote. Calling the commercial (which can be viewed in full below) “a marketing decision [the company] will regret,” they urge readers to stop buying Campbell’s products if the ad is kept on the air.

“They should not be highlighting who is attracted to whom or who sleeps with whom,” they wrote. “There is concern about the way this ad is pushing the LGBT agenda, but an even greater concern is the way that they are attempting to redefine ‘family’ and ‘real marriage.'”

One Million Moms, which is a division of the American Family Association, has been particularly busy in 2015. Last month, the group slammed ABC’s “The Muppets” for “weighing in on abortion and promiscuity” and featuring “sexually charged jokes,” despite the fact that even the Jim Henson original aimed to appeal to mature audiences, too.

In June, they argued that Greek yogurt giant Chobani was “attempting to normalize sin” with a recent commercial that featured a same-sex couple

Still, it’s unlikely that Campbell’s Soup will take One Million Moms’ words as a legitimate threat anytime soon. The group’s best-known boycotts, including one of JCPenney after the retailer hired Ellen DeGeneres as its spokeswoman, have had a zero percent success rate

Meet Two Of The First Gay Dads To Foster-To-Adopt In Florida

In this installment of the Huffington Post Gay Voices RaiseAChild.US Let Love Define Family” series, contributing writer David Humiston is inspired by two foster and adoptive dads in Tallahassee, Florida, and shares their story.

Inspiration is a living thing. In the act of making ordinary people do extraordinary things, it gets passed on. Those inspired become those that inspire and, in this way, one candle is used to light another.

Couples like Daniel Nurse and his husband, Casanova, a thirtysomething couple from Tallahassee, Florida, are inspiring. Together since 2006 and married on Valentine’s Day of this year, Danny has taken on the Florida House Judiciary Committee (testimony against anti-gay adoption, i.e., Bill 7111), biased caseworkers and even an attorney who initially (and illegally) refused to represent them during adoption proceedings, and have successfully adopted three beautiful children into their loving home. The process was not easy for them, and they admit to moments of difficulty and even self-doubt. However, they persevered and can say that they were among the first same-sex couples to foster-to-adopt in Tallahassee. Daniel, already from a family familiar with the beautiful rewards of adoption, related to me that he was inspired to take his first steps by the annual CBS television special, “A Home for the Holidays.”

In 2010, Florida’s Third District Court of Appeals struck down a 1977 law banning adoption by gay parents, declaring it unconstitutional. Danny and Cas were among the very first to subsequently apply for fostering.

Their first adoption placement, a precious girl, was challenging. The family struggled to adapt and parent, as any family would, and the young girl placed in their care blossomed, but was ultimately reunited with her birth mother. The experience made them wiser, perhaps more patient, but no less eager to try again. And so they did, with two adorable and, as Danny says, “amazing” boys. Sadly though, neither child ended up staying with them for the long haul, but Danny and Cas remained positive and persistent.

Determination has paid off, and they have now successfully adopted three children through the foster-to-adopt program. Two boys, Neijal and Cameron — both 4 — and Ava Rose, who is only 22 months old. The children have brought more joy and meaning into Danny and Cas’s life.

Cas’s family, long apprehensive and unaccepting of his sexuality, have even been won over by the children, and family meetings have engendered deeper respect, love and understanding. Cas’s father, the children’s “Paw-Paw,” was instantly smitten upon meeting them and insisted on showing his love by cooking them a “hearty meal,” as Cas puts it. That meeting, and those that followed, were “critical in mending many years of misunderstanding and misperceptions about my husband’s life, and gay life in general,” says Cas.

Danny and Cas are happy. They are optimistic. They know that struggles are likely to come their way, but it is nothing they aren’t willing to face together. In Daniel’s words, they “may face issues, ridicule, embarrassment, but it is all worth it to be able to give back and provide a loving and committed family for those that would not otherwise have one.” This is a common theme among foster-to-adopt families, perhaps even more so among same-sex couples who have faced struggles for the opportunity to raise children. Nonetheless, this family is a heartening inspiration for all of us to reflect upon. Their candle of inspiration will, hopefully, be used to inspire the flame of other candles yet to be.

News in Brief: New Extended Paternity Leave Offers Dads More Time To Lose Colleagues’ Respect

POTOMAC, MD—Providing male employees with an alternative to the standard one or two weeks off, executives from investment firm Wyndham Capital announced Tuesday that the company had begun offering extended paternity leave to any new fathers wanting more time to lose their colleagues’ respect. “We found that many men were unsatisfied with the duration of our previously offered leave, so we’ve amended our policy to accommodate those on staff who would like a little extra time to lower themselves in the eyes of their coworkers,” said vice president of HR Ben Nylen, explaining that the new 12-week leave was designed to give fathers ample time to show business associates that they’re effeminate weaklings unfit for the high-stakes world of finance. “Taking advantage of a full three months off is not only a great way for men to lose the personal and professional esteem of their peers, but …

6 Powerful Life Lessons Learned From Single Dads

canva

This Father’s Day, we’re celebrating single and divorced dads. Whether you have full custody or time with the kids every other weekend, the lessons you’re imparting by being present are incredibly valuable.

Below, grown children of divorce share the most important lessons their dads taught them about love, relationships, heartbreak or forging a life of their own.

Love can take on many forms.
“My father taught me that true love, even after the end of a twenty-plus year marriage, can last forever. My father grew as a man, devoted himself to his health and continued to love my mother fiercely after their divorce. He refers to her as his best friend and still views her as the love of his life and mother of his children. He’s showed me that despite conflict, despite divorce and despite going through the lowest of lows, love can persevere. That love may now live in different form, be it continuing to support his children or showing up at the first sign of trouble. He refuses to let go of love. Despite any issues we may have as father and child, he’s taught me to continue to believe in the existence of love.” –Jeaiza M. Quinones

A relationship should be a partnership of equals.
zach rosenberg
“My father didn’t teach me about love and heartbreak through the lens of divorce. He taught me skills for being in a successful relationship, just as I imagine anyone’s father does. I was taught to listen to my wife and to hear not only what she’s saying but what she’s not saying. I was taught to resolve issues and to really look inside myself to see if my actions are the issue. I was taught to fight fairly and to know when to just let things go. Marriage is about love. And loving, I’ve been taught, is about equity in your relationship. My dad always did his part before and after divorce and in doing so, he taught me that both spouses need to feel like what they do in the relationship is of worth.” Zach Rosenberg

To get the relationship you want, you need to work on yourself first.
“When I was 19 my father remarried for the seventh time. His groomsmen joked during their toasts about who would be the best man the next time my father got married. My father smiled through his teeth and had his revenge: twenty years later, they are still married. What I learned from my father was not just to try, try, again. The most important lesson wasn’t about standing up in the face of criticism and trusting your heart. Honestly, by stepmother number four I was pretty skeptical. What made my father’s last marriage different wasn’t that he married a better woman. It was that he took a year off after divorce number six and allowed himself to mourn. He went sailing alone for weeks at a time. He saw a therapist. Then, when he started dating again, he found the woman he has been married to for over twenty years. Today, as a twice divorced woman, I know I need to follow in my dad’s most recent footsteps and learn to be OK on my own.” -Lara Lillibridge

Never apologize for who you are.
nile cappello
“I often find myself over-apologizing: for being loud, for speaking me mind, for simply taking up space. My father never apologizes for being himself. He is loud, stubborn and speaks his mind — but I have never once heard him apologize for it. That’s because it’s who he is and if someone has a problem with that, it’s their problem. This has translated directly into how I engage in romantic relationships. For a long time, I found myself taking on the blame in relationships. I was too loud or talked too much or showed my weaknesses too soon. Then I realized, if my father didn’t apologize for who he is, why would I? Why should I apologize for behaving like myself? Through his example, I’ve realized that not apologizing for who you are attracts partners who like you — not a manipulated, pared down or subverted version of you. My father taught me to not only stop apologizing for who I am but to embrace it.” Nile Cappello

Don’t depend on someone else for your own self-worth.
“My dad raised me to value my own intellect. I don’t recall ever being praised for being ‘pretty’ or ‘cute.’ My self-esteem came from doing well at school. He indulged my interests and never belittled my eccentricities. If I liked a pop star, we’d spend a Saturday searching for postcards in the West End. We’d go bird watching and fossil hunting. Nothing was out of my reach; I was expected to achieve anything I choose. I visited him on weekends and during the week he’d phone at 9 p.m. on the dot. We’d read poetry or the latest story I’d written, just to have a chance to connect. My childhood encouraged independence. He died when I was a teen and his death taught me to forgive and to understand that we all carry our own baggage. He made many mistakes but I never doubted he adored me. He taught me I was more than enough and I didn’t need anyone else to feel worthy.” ReeRee Rockette

Sometimes, you have to love against the odds.
krista barth
“After the divorce, perhaps rocked by the loss of his family as he knew it, my dad became fiercely dedicated to his children. We were not always easy to love or even like back then. We were sad and angry, mostly with him. There were countless drives to his house with tears streaming down our faces as we banged on the window. We wanted our mommy and let him know it. He never wavered in his love for us and he never gave up. He was a constant presence. Dad took us for the summers, flying back and forth to D.C. every week for work so we could have magical summers full of bonfires with extended family. He was mom and dad during a time when men simply did not take care of children like today. He stayed up all night when we were sick, taught us to water ski, mow the lawn and took us on endless adventures, even when we did not want to go. Those are now some of my favorite memories. My dad was truly present when he was with us and called everyday when we were apart. These days, hearing that ‘I am my father’s daughter’ is perhaps the greatest compliment I receive.” -Krista Barth

News in Brief: North American Children Begin Summer Migration To Dad’s

NEW YORK—With the increasingly warm weather signaling the commencement of their age-old journey, millions of children across the North American continent began their annual summer migration to their fathers’ homes this week, sources confirmed. “At this moment, in every corner of the country, children are setting out from their normal wintering grounds en route to their dad’s place,” said Duke University anthropologist Robert Benson, explaining how these youths follow the same interstate routes they travel every year to the region of the country containing their fathers’ townhouses, where they will make a temporary home for themselves among their specially arranged twin beds and pull-out sofas for the remainder of the summer months. “While the journey is not easy, and often leads the children to conditions that are far less hospitable than those they enjoy during the rest of the year, this is simply a natural rite these boys …

10 Things Single Moms Can Do Just as Well as Dads

And the one thing they can’t do.

2015-06-09-1433891437-9883463-reading21.jpg

It’s Father’s Day again. A few years ago on the third Sunday of June, I posted this snarky comment on Facebook: “Since I’m a single mother, does that mean my kids have to make me a cake on Father’s Day?” Lots of people — especially my fellow single moms — thought that sentiment was soooo cute.

This year on Father’s Day, I will make a cheesecake for my sons and their stepfather on his first official Father’s Day. My son’s biological father chooses not to share this day — or any day — with his older two children.

Here’s what I’ve learned parenting two sons full-time on my own for several years. Single mothers cannot be fathers. I’m not just talking about biology. I’m talking about the facts of life. I’m not both their father and their mother, and I don’t want to be. I just want to be the best mother I can be.

Here are 10 things single moms can do just as well as dads:

  1. Make a cake for your children on Father’s Day.
  2. Work hard so you can afford the 17 gallons of milk your teenage boys drink each week.
  3. Watch Avengers movies with your teenagers and play Minecraft with your tweens.
  4. Read to your children and force them to listen to NPR on long drives.
  5. Look stern but secretly rejoice when the boys transform the kitchen into a model rocket factory at 1:00 in the morning or when you come home from work to find that they have built a working kiln in your backyard.
  6. Have that extremely awkward “This is a banana, and this is a condom” talk — early and often.
  7. Teach your kids to work. You work all day — they can do the dishes and fold the laundry. They can even iron their own shirts.
  8. Resist the urge to buy your children every single thing they ask for.
  9. Teach your sons to respect everyone, but especially women. If your sons respect women, maybe the next generation of children won’t be raised by single mothers.
  10. Love your children. No matter what.

And here’s the one thing single moms can never do just as well as dads: Be your children’s father.

Few women sign up to be single mothers voluntarily (see #6 above). I certainly was not one of them. I never expected to be celebrating Father’s Day with my sons and without their father. This is why the one piece of indispensable knowledge I want to impress on my sons is that if and when they decide to become fathers, they must understand and embrace the life-altering nature of that commitment.

Children need their fathers. Even when the fathers stop loving their partners, fathers should never abandon their children, not for any reason. When single mothers denigrate the male parent’s vital role (the horrible “sperm donor” moniker comes to mind), fathers have less incentive to take responsibility for their children. Even something seemingly innocuous, like my Facebook post about deserving a cake on Father’s Day, can send a potentially harmful message to our children about the active role fathers should play in children’s lives.

To my amazing, brave, hard-working single-mom girlfriends, you can’t be your children’s father and mother, and you should stop trying to be. But you can be — and you are — your children’s mother. Instead of dad-bashing this Father’s Day, encourage your children to celebrate the men who have made a difference in your children’s lives. I’m thinking of the scoutmaster who patiently worked with my son who has mental illness, or the father of my oldest son’s best friend who takes him along on ski and biking trips, or my husband, who has no biological children of his own but has graciously made space for my children in his formerly carefree life.

What should a single mother do on Father’s Day? Do something that makes you feel good, of course. Last year, I treated myself to a pedicure with hot pink nail polish. Then I took my boys to see a sci-fi movie we all loved. It’s good to be a mother on Father’s Day.

Note: The picture is of my father reading to me, something both single moms and dads can do for their children.

Jerry Reed’s Daughter: ‘My Dad’s Talent Wasn’t Confined to Country Music’

In 1972, Jerry Reed was on top of the world musically. Hit records like "When You're Hot, You're Hot" and his often-imitated style of guitar playing were making him a household name across the nation. And, in December of that year, the singer entered unchartered territory for a country performer: He appeared as a guest star on the Saturday morning cartoon Scooby Doo, Where Are You? That, according to his daughter Seidina, was a watershed moment — at least for her. "I was hot when Dad was on Scooby Doo," she recalled to Billboard with a laugh. "The kids all loved me. I was so excited. Dad was on a cartoon!"

Five Ways Dads Can Make the Most of Their Dadhood

Many divorced and remarried dads have deep insecurities about their new parenting roles, as if a dad’s relevance is directly proportionate to the minutes and hours he spends with his children. But all dads are dads 100% of the time, just as all moms are still moms 100% of the time. The title is permanent, but the job itself can be tricky, especially after a divorce.

While plenty of dads know that quality of parenting time is more important than length of parenting time, many misinterpret “quality of time” to mean that, to make the most of those minutes, they must be a wish-granting genie, the world’s greatest playmate, an indentured servant, or a money tree.

What I’ve found — using myself and my kids as research subjects — is that a dad’s most important role is simply to be the authentic dad he is. To illustrate, here are five specific realizations I’ve made as a result of time spent (Saturdays mostly) with my three kids as they grew from ages 8, 5, and 5 when I got divorced in 2007 to a taller and wiser 16, 13, and 13 in the present day.

1. Focus on the impression you make.

Think for a moment about your own dad. What’s the first thing that comes to mind — a specific moment, or a general quality like support, protection, or love? Likely it’s the latter. When I think about my dad, the concept of “sacrifice” comes to mind much more quickly and powerfully than the day he helped me build a birdhouse for Cub Scouts.

This tells us that the long-term impression a dad makes has more overall impact than the short-term joys he delivers. Because of that, a dad shouldn’t punish himself too hard for making a mistake (like being too angry), nor worry too much about setting up “the perfect day.” What’s more important is consistently showing support, giving encouragement, patiently listening, and actively participating. And none of those require a credit card, a sunny day, a long weekend, or assistance from Mom.

2. Do things with them they don’t do often in their other home.

My ex hates mall shopping, pop culture, and corporate chain restaurants. Meanwhile, I love mall shopping, pop culture, and corporate chain restaurants. And do you know who else loves those things? My kids. As a result, I get to enjoy moments with them they would never do otherwise… like discussing the merits of Arianna Grande at the mall’s Cheesecake Factory.

(For those of you who don’t know, Arianna Grande is not a large Italian cheesecake).

Finding these unique and exclusive delights — whether it’s mall shopping, mountain biking, fishing, cooking, or playing board games — may not always be easy, but it’s worth the effort. When dads own these shared experiences, they’re creating very distinct and positive memories for their kids’ futures.

3. Have them be part of your life.

It’s important for kids to know their dads have lives, just like their moms do. So dads should incorporate the kids into their normal routines. This means having them tag along on errands, matching work socks, washing dishes, helping build IKEA furniture, and making sandwiches. In many ways it can be a better bonding experience than going to an amusement park or concert — Do dads really want to compete with Olaf and Taylor Swift for their kids’ attention?

The only hard and fast rule for dads is to do these projects with their children. The kids will learn not only that Dad has a day-to-day life, but that they have an important role in it.

4. Know that inexpensive things can have priceless bonding value.

I’ve never seen my kids happier than…

…when we buy carbonated beverages at a discount store, bring them outside to the parking lot, take turns shaking and tossing them violently, then open them quickly and watch them explode.

Cost per kid: Roughly a dollar.

…when we bring needed supplies to an animal shelter.

Cost per kid: 0.

…when I arm each kid with a dollar or two and set them free in a dollar store.

Cost per kid: One or two dollars.

Local websites and town newspapers often list free activities for kids, so some pre-planning is helpful. But the key breakthrough for dads is understanding that worthwhile experiences do not have to empty his wallet.

5. Make sure everyone is having fun.

My kids and I don’t go to Chuck E. Cheese. We don’t see ridiculously silly movies. We don’t go on educational field trips. Not because they don’t want to, but because I don’t want to. If they’re having fun and I’m not, it’s not much better than me having fun while they’re not.

A father’s time and experiences with his kids are shared, so the fun should be shared too. And kids are thrilled when they see their parents enjoying the same experience they’re enjoying.

So find ways to laugh with them, and absolutely avoid any activity during which you’re likely to spend more time engaging your smart phone than enjoying your offspring.

TS Pussy Hunters: Playing PentHouse: Milcah And Honey Fool Around In Her Dad’s Basement

Milcah and Honey are long time friends who used to sneak in to Milcah’s Dad’s mancave and re-enact scenes from his hidden porno stash.

They never went "all the way" but they both secretly wanted to. Now as college freshman, they finally get up the nerve to touch each other while they play their old game.

Honey pulls out her humongous cock and Milcah can not believe her eyes. Honey’s cock is as long as her arm and just a thick! The only way Honey can get her massive penis into Milcah is to let Milcah ride her. The thick cock slips like a coke can into Milcah and she squirts from the fullness of her pussy being filled by Honey. The girls fuck all over Dad’s old couch in his mancave.

Dads And Lads Night In

1 dad and 8 lads? Now that’s what we call one lucky cunt! Or is it 1 Dad and 8 scally cunts! Delight dad, Steve, bored and stuck in his council flat on a Friday night decides to have a couple of tinnys and a smoke with his mate to relieve the boredom. Fucked off with the crap footy on TV and having not that much else to do Big Steve gets an unexpected phone call from another couple of lads on the estate who want to pop round to borrow some smoke. The lads sit and chat and as the lager kicks in they decide to stick a bit of porn on the telly. It’s not long before Dad Steve has got a big boner and chancing his luck gets one of the lads to suck him off… the other lad Tyson watches Big Steve getting a good sucking and says he fancies a bit of that himself. Soon little Danny is getting spit-roasted by big Steve and muscley scally lad Tyson – alternating with his mates to fuck Danny’s tight hairy arsehole who can’t get enough of their big fat cocks pounding away at him.

25 Reasons Kids Should Be Left Alone With Their Dads

Making fun of dads because they are “pretty much just giant children” is soooooooo 2011. Maybe y’all ain’t heard, but dads are getting all sorts of respect lately — not because they’re doing anything different, but because — ugh — who didn’t want to loosen up the grip a little, amirite?

Buzzfeed didn’t get the memo, so they put out a hilarious article titled “24 Reasons Kids Should Never Be Left Alone With Their Dads”. And besides some of the photos being genuinely funny with no real gender-specific blame to lather onto dad, it’s just kind of, well, you know… phoned in.

But here’s the thing: when you beat dads down over and over and make moms distrustful of them (even in jest), all it makes society say is “don’t leave your kids alone with dad — you KNOW what they do!” And then guess who has to deal with the pressure of raising kids, working, and doing their damn thing? Moms. So lay off, kk?

In light of this, I present to you 24 reasons (plus a bonus, you motherlovers) your kids should be left alone with their dads.

1. They’re Not Too Cool for Selfies

Because honestly, if a kid silly face will brighten your kid’s day, you check your pride and do it.

2. They Make the Coolest Lunch Pack-ins

Look for a Q&A with this dude here soon. Incredible work.

3. They’re Not Afraid of Creepy-Crawlies

There’s a couple of good “lizard” euphemisms I’ll pass up here.

4. They Know Their Way Around a Garden

And teaching a love for eating right!

5. The Best Family Portraits EVAR

Like, honestly.

6. They’ll Be At Every Game

Even if they’ve got two broken legs, they’ll make it there.

7. Family Movies in the Man-Cave

Because it’s just a cave if it’s not filled with family.

8. They’ll Wait Hours to Get You Next to the Trophy

You won’t care now, son, but when you’re older, it’ll be cool to have a pic of three generations next to that thing.

9. Discipline Is Sometimes in Character

Though really, everything BatDad does is in character.

10. Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance is a Number One Priority!

But you know what I mean.

11. They’re Into Crafts

And not above making up superheroes.

12. They Will Tell the Hell Out of a Story

Anything to make a bedtime story better.

13. They Beam With Pride

About everything their kids do — big and small.

14. They Make Great Pillows

And they don’t just run to Twitter to complain about it and demand wine.

15. They Aren’t Afraid

When their child arrived, they dove right in.

16. They Will Be Your Training Wheels

Until you can go it alone.

17. Seriously, the BEST Lunch Notes

We Q&A’d with this guy! Read it here!

18. They’re Not Afraid to Hold You Close

And take you everywhere.

19. They Let Their Kids Play With Their Old Toys

Because you can’t take it with you when you’re gone.

20. They Will Ride That Ride

Because it means a lot to you, son.

21. They Have Good Advice

Sometimes so good that it ends up in a book.

22. They Have a Conference About Being a Good Dad

And the support there flows. Pic of dad blogger Lorne Jaffe.

23. They Can Show Mercy

From BusyDadBlog: “She said ‘aw it’s so cute’ and proceeded to pet this fish. Of course we had to let it go.”

24. They Will Catch You

Not just when you fall, but when you jump.

25. They Honor Their Spouses With Pictures Too

Because if they didn’t respect their spouses, why would they be raising a kid with them?!

Your move, Buzzfeed.
