Some people will do anything for love—even if they have to fake it. Jen Maitland had no use for handsome guys with easy charm—until she met Zach. He's the perfect fake date to end her mother's matchmaking scheme before it starts. Besides, he'd probably just use her and leave her like her ex-fiancé did. At least that's what Jen tells herself. The only problem is that Zach isn't as predictable as he appears… Zach Coxwell hates commitment, but loves a challenge. Like the pretty bar waitress who turned him down flat for a date—only to invite him to her family's Thanksgiving dinner. Zach knows he can make Jen smile—and he's betting that he can unravel her mysteries—even if he has to do it over candied yams. A tofu turkey, a sister who threatens to have Zach's love-child, the untimely appearance of a knitted avocado—and Zach's discovery of her real motive—combine to turn Thanksgiving dinner into Jen's worst nightmare. Zach, on the other hand, has the time of his life. And when he makes Jen smile, he finally finds a commitment he's willing to make…but persuading Jen to believe him will take everything he's got.

Yet Madeline's hand has been sold, to none other than this battle-weary warrior with a price on his head. A more dutiful maiden might cede to the Laird's command and meekly accept her fate, but Madeline has never been obedient. She decides to run away, though she never dreams that Rhys will pursue her. She does not expect this taciturn man to woo her with fanciful stories, much less that each of his enthralling tales will reveal a scar upon his shielded soul. She never imagines that a man like Rhys could imperil her own heart while revealing so little of his own feelings. When Rhys' past threatens his future, Madeline takes a leap of faith. She dares to believe him innocent – and risks her own life to pursue a passion more priceless than the rarest gem.

Two sisters. One disaster. First things first: I'm the bad twin. While my sister, Marcia, has the perfect family in the perfect suburb, I've been making my living as an Internet advice columnist and designing Web sites in my downtown loft. I always thought I had the right answer—and hair color—for any occasion. That is, until Marcia ran up loads of debt and ran out on her husband and kids, and I was left helping to pick up the pieces. Her husband, James, is a lawyer who I hate on principle alone. But for a guy who's just lost his job, his marriage, and his expensive toys, he's keeping it together—and making me rethink my feelings toward him. It's not that he's traded in his conservative suits for sexy jeans. It's that he's not giving up what's important to him, and oh baby, I'm a sucker for a guy who hangs tough. That doesn't mean I'm ready to step into Marcia's designer shoes now that she's gone A.W.O.L. And it doesn't mean that I'm going to fall for James' easy charm…not again, anyhow. Besides, I've had a lifelong policy of not being mistaken for my twin and I'm not backing down on that one now—no matter how convenient it might be for a certain sexy (and persuasive) man…

Deborah Lindquist: The New Summer Trend: Pattern Play

By Deborah Lindquist

While last year was the year of the stripe, spring/summer 2014 has introduced a new trend, the year of the print.

As we know, sometimes trends appear, flutter round a bit and die, while others seem to take the world by storm. If you hadn’t already noticed, prints are everywhere. Graphic, retro, artistic, romantic, you name it. They are all here, sometimes worn in combination with each other, and creating a big stir.

With so many options, where to start and what to choose? Your personality, color of your skin and hair, your lifestyle are certainly factors. Pale girls might choose a subtle print that doesn’t overpower their complexion and hair color while girls with a darker skin tone and/or vivid hair colors can rock a print with more pop. Choosing the right print is about balance. The print should enhance your beauty, not distract from it.

Subtle tones
A feminine retro girl with pale skin might choose a floral pattern such as the 1040’s romantic floral on this bustier. The subtle tones compliment her skin tone while offering a pop of color to make the print interesting and fun. Pairing a colorful print with a neutral toned skirt such as this vintage parachute skirt keeps the look unique and on trend without becoming overwhelming.

Big versus allover prints
If an allover print is just not your thing, a larger artistic image or an applique such as the lilies on this applique cashmere sweater could be a great choice. Prints can found as big as you can imagine or small, mellow and subtle. With that in mind, the sweater with the spaced- out lilies would look great worn with a dress made of a fabric similar to the curtain fabric behind it, just in case you change your mind about the allover idea.

In mixing prints, keep in mind the mix needs to be relatable in some way, (such as similar colors) to keep your look from becoming too busy. Or crazy.

Graphic prints
The race for space in the 1960s brought us not only the technology for space travel, but a new and inspiring influence in textile design. Graphic prints such as the vintage 1960s print on this bustier were abundant at that time and are today translated into the current graphic pattern trend we’re seeing in fashion. With a print as bold, colorful and vivid as this, the best way to wear it is with something black, maybe easy black trousers. I’m sure we an all have those in our closets!

Jump in and indulge in a little pattern play this summer–you’ll be glad that you did!

Deborah Lindquist: Dressing Your Mom in Style for Mother's Day

By Deborah Lindquist

“Are you wearing that?” My mom asks me.

In my fearless quest to create my teenage sense of style, I did sometimes come up with “interesting” ideas. “Oh, do you mean this purple turtleneck bodystocking with a neon lime green micro miniskirt?” (This was before Punk Glam designer Stephen Sprouse made neon a hot trend.)

What?

So she may not ask you those questions anymore (with that look!) and besides that, you’re now certain to wear just the right thing for her Mother’s Day brunch, flea market shopping excursion, getaway, or whatever your day together brings.

Mother’s Day is the perfect day to give your mom something fun to wear. Not only will she think of you every time she wears it, you know her well enough to know her favorite things. Here are some ideas for the perfect Mother’s Day gift.

The pretty floral
Always in fashion, a pretty floral print skirt can be a great Mother’s Day gift choice. This handpainted floral skirt is made of vintage kimono fabric, and is a lovely piece for your mom to wear to a brunch date out with her family.

An artistic sweater
Cardigans are the easiest layering pieces ever invented. Designed to button up or not, they become favorite go-to pieces when you just don’t know how the weather will be today. Pops of color and artistic appliques make this reincarnated cashmere sweater a work of art and a fun piece to wear anywhere. Layer it over a basic top or dress and you’re prepared for the day.

A lot of kisses
Mothers are all about love, and Mother’s Day is the day to celebrate all the love she gives. From your earliest boo-boo kisses to the ones she now gives to her grandchildren, the love goes on. It’s funny how kisses can change everything — even make a scraped knee feel better. It’s as if they are magic. Spread some of those magic kisses around and give her a kiss appliqued scarf. No size required, just a fun piece covered in kisses.

Have a great Mother’s Day, filled with happiness and love. Whatever you choose to do with your mom, knowing that you gave her a fashionable gift will keep you from asking the question, “Mom, are you wearing that?”
