Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott Teams Up With Dsquared2 on Capsule

POWER COLLABORATION: Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott are making their debut as fashion designers in collaboration with Dsquared2 founders and creative directors Dean and Dan Caten.
The fashion photographers and the Canadian twin brothers teamed up on a fashion capsule collection, hitting selected stores and the Dsquared2 online shop in February.
As suggested by its name, the Mert and Marcus 1994 x Dsquared2 capsule captures the most iconic spirit of the Nineties, as seen through the filters of the creative crew. Including a range of eye-catching pieces for men and women, the collection is focused on a combination of bold volumes and bright hues and is infused with a hip, underground vibe inspired by the Nineties’ Berlin metropolitan scene where music, art and fashion collided creating a hip, forward-thinking environment.

The Mert and Marcus 1994 x Dsquared2 capsule counts a range of overalls, bombers, tank tops, hoodies, oversize T-shirts, asymmetric sheath dresses and boxy tailoring styles, all crafted from a selection of fabrics that are masterfully manipulated to create laminated, paperlike and rubberized effects.
In addition, iconic archival images shot by Alas and Piggott, including pictures of Kate Moss, decorate some of the pieces for a post-punk

Dsquared2 Revamps the Brand’s First Fragrance and Introduces a Women’s Version  

TIM-BER!: “We’re not killing trees anymore,” said Dean Caten of Dsquared2 at the exclusive launch of the brand’s revamped Wood fragrance, which no longer has wooden packaging.
The men’s and women’s fragrances — brown for the boys and pink for the girls — now takes the shape of a hefty beer bottle.
The 30-ml. bottle sells for 44 pounds and the 100-ml. bottle sells for 75 pounds. The fragrance launches at Harvey Nichols on Monday and the Caten brothers expressed the importance of launching exclusively with the department store.
“It’s important to give an exclusive to somebody because it makes it more important as opposed to coming out everywhere. It’s more intimate this way,” said Dean.
In May, Dsquared2 inked a licensing agreement with Euroitalia for the production and distribution of the brand’s fragrances, and Wood is the first perfume to be relaunched under this new partnership.
The men’s fragrance has been reworked while the women’s is a completely new scent created by perfumer Marie Salamagne. Both incorporate similar base notes such as white wood and ambrox.
“We’ve scrapped all of our other perfumes and since Wood was our first fragrance and our bestseller, we’re relaunching with this,” said Dan.

Whether she is a fly girl from the Bronx, N.Y., or a disco queen from Manhattan, the Dsquared2 woman of the season is utterly cool.
For pre-fall, Dean and Dan Caten managed to deliver what they do best — charming clothes infused with luxury, polished glamour and a high dose of fun.
The precise and sharp silhouettes defining Dsquared2’s signature tailoring-oriented aesthetic was perfectly balanced by the introduction of metallic fabrics, striped and camouflage patterns, as well as pops of vibrant colors.
The collection was built as the rich wardrobe of a trendy urban girl. She hits the city’s streets with light wool track pants embellished with a logo band and matched with a coordinated bomber. She picks up the kids at school in a pair of distressed jeans, paired with a striped sweater and a covetable classic shearling coat. But when the sun goes down, she pours into a dramatic black gown with a sexy plunging V-neck or pairs a tuxedolike skirt suit with an open back wrap top and over-the-knee heeled boots.
She can be a playful tomboy, a chic uptown girl and a party girl — in any case, someone you’ll surely want to call your friend.
