2019 Cannes Film Festival: Toni Garrn Cohosts Charity Cannes Lunch With Amend

GIVING BACK: “I first worked here when I did a Chanel cruise show up on that hill, I remember walking down was weird, walking up was weird, too. I love this location and I’ve supported a lot of amfARs here,” said Toni Garrn, slipping into her seat at a charity lunch and auction she cohosted with Amend on Friday on the terrace of the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, with views across the Mediterranean.
Over 130,000 euros was raised at the event, with event producer Andy Boose auctioning off items including a Terry O’Neill photo of David Bowie and Elizabeth Taylor and a Chopard Happy Love watch. Guests included Remo Ruffini, John Nollet, Ellen von Unwerth and Daria Strokous, with the funds raised going to Amend’s programs for preventing road traffic injuries to children in Africa and the Toni Garrn Foundation, which supports education initiatives for girls in Africa.
In business mode, Garrn wore a pink suit by Victoria Hayes. “I feel like a Barbie,” said the model-turned-actor, whose latest roles include playing a German secret agent in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”
“I have a very strong German accent, it’s really fun. I get to give Tom [Holland], who plays Spiderman, a new suit because

2019 Cannes Film Festival: Eva Longoria On Hollywood’s ‘Sisterhood and Community of Information”

CANNES, France — “I was lucky because it was called ‘Desperate Housewives’ and not ‘Desperate Husbands,’” quipped Eva Longoria during a Kering Women in Motion talk at the Majestic Hotel on Friday.
The Time’s Up co-founder, whose activism and charitable work has taken on a sense of urgency since having her son, said that the organization is studying what role it can play in the 2020 elections in the U.S. “We’re trying to figure out how can we have an impact, not only with the presidential election, but in state governments. We see what’s happening in Alabama right now, which is crazy, archaic, not progressive, not American,” she said, referencing that state’s banning of all abortions.
On the goal set by Time’s Up to achieve 50-50 equality in the workplace in Hollywood by 2020, “The statistics are going the wrong way, we’re not improving,” she said.
The actor, director and producer who is directing her first feature, “24-7,” in which she also stars alongside Kerry Washington, talked about her efforts to surround herself with a female-led team and how she used “Desperate Housewives” as a film school.
“It was a decade of my life, I knew I wasn’t reaching my full potential, I’d go

Louis Vuitton Partners With Moda Operandi’s Santo Domingo on Digital Film

Louis Vuitton and Lauren Santo Domingo, cofounder and chief brand officer of Moda Operandi, are collaborating on a digital film showcasing the French house’s iconic Capucines bags.
The editorial short film follows Santo Domingo through her day in New York, highlighting the versatility of the Capucines. It shows her working on her computer and sipping coffee on her terrace, commuting to work and hailing a cab, making decisions about fabric swatches, going to a restaurant for lunch and dressing up and going out at night — each time wearing a different Capucines bag. Seven bags are featured. She’s also dressed in Louis Vuitton pre-fall 2019.
This is the first time Santo Domingo has partnered with a fashion house on a campaign.
As part of the partnership, the Louis Vuitton Capucines bag will be made available to preorder through Moda Operandi personal stylists. The retail price of the bags range from $ 4,750 to $ 7,450.

EXCLUSIVE: Pharrell Williams Features in Short Film for Chanel Collaboration

PARIS — Pharrell Williams has been a Chanel model, film star, composer and brand ambassador. This week, he will make his debut in his new role as codesigner of a capsule collection with the French luxury brand that is set to bow exclusively on Thursday at the opening of Chanel’s first flagship boutique in Seoul.
To mark the launch, Williams has stepped in front of the camera again for a short film featuring a gang of women and men on a nocturnal road trip, dressed in the rainbow outfits of the Chanel-Pharrell collection — think sweatshirts with embroidered graffiti, terry-cloth bucket hats and oodles of rhinestone jewelry.
In behind-the-scenes footage shared exclusively with WWD, the multihyphenate explained the process that brought him together with the late Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel’s creative director for 36 years, starting with their sneaker launch at the now-defunct Paris concept store Colette in 2017.
“This campaign and this film are about a capsule collection, something that they’ve never done in the history of the brand. They do that not with a designer, but with a musician with ambition and dreams,” Williams said.
The “Happy” singer, who has received 12 Grammy Awards and heads the multimedia collective I Am Other, was previously

PARIS — The Chanel-Pharrell collection is landing soon: Pharrell Williams teased some looks from his eagerly awaited collaboration with the French luxury brand in a 15-second clip posted to his Instagram account on Friday.
The segment shows a group of women and men lounging after dark, dressed in the rainbow outfits from the capsule. Williams is seen holding a glowing orb inside his mouth, to eerie effect, while in another scene, a television screen in a grand apartment shows black-and-white footage of the label’s founder, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, talking about elegance.

Headlights: A Ride BMX Film

Mike Mastroni

Genre: Sports

Price: $ 9.99

Release Date: December 18, 2018

The latest film from Ride BMX and Mike Mastroni. Headlights is a full-feature, pure riding film that celebrates BMX at its most core. The brainchild of revered filmmaker Mike Mastroni, Headlights got its namesake from the hundreds of hours spent behind the wheel of his converted Sprinter van as he traveled the country to put together 50 plus minutes of cutting-edge street riding. A true mix of styles gives Headlights a style all its own: refined and spot-minded established pros like Ryan Jordan and Calvin Kosovich, progressive and technical riding from Johnny Raekes and Jake Seeley, and outlandishly creative riding from Tate Roskelly and Shawn “Elf” Walters. Shot both digitally and with an old Super 8mm film camera, Headlights is an homage to the BMX video heyday while containing all the progression that every full-length BMX video must have. Full sections from Demarcus Paul, Calvin Kosovich, Broc Raiford, Jake Seeley, Zach Krejmas, Ryan Jordan, Justin Spriet, Brady Tweedy, Mike Mastroni, Tate Roskelley, Shawn “Elf” Walters, and Johnny Raekes.

But it hasn’t been without sacrifice. With what is likely his last Olympic competition at stake, his season plans are thrown into chaos after a devastating crash. During what seems like a routine visit to the hospital, an unusually familiar nurse and an MRI scan send Danny on a strange trip down memory lane. What starts as a pilgrimage to the powder fields of British Columbia, quickly turns into a road trip through Danny’s own mind as he revisits his humble beginnings, past injuries, friendly faces and inner demons. Joined by fellow snowboarders Mark McMorris, Ben Ferguson, Scotty Lago, Mikkel Bang, Nick Russell and more, Danny is forced to face his biggest challenge to date, himself.

Cate Blanchett to Preside over 71st Cannes Film Festival

WOMAN’S HOUR: Call it the Harvey Weinstein effect. Two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett is to be president of the jury at the 71st edition of the Cannes International Film Festival, making her the 12th woman to fill the role in the festival’s history. Spanish director Pedro Almodovar occupied the seat last year.
The festival will be held from May 8 to May 19 – the day of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding – and this year will open on a Tuesday and end on a Saturday.
The 48-year-old Australian actress, who has been vocal in her support of the women who have come forward in the Weinstein affair after a series of sexual assault statements were made against the producer, is also one of 300 female Hollywood actors, directors, producers, agents, writers and executives backing the recently launched Time’s Up initiative to help fight sexual harassment in the workplace.
Declaring she was “humbled by the privilege and responsibility” of the role, Blanchett in a statement on Thursday shared some of her own achievements as a festival regular. Most recently, in 2015, she attended the event for “Carol” by Todd Haynes, a film that she co-produced with the Weinstein Co. and

Budding Film Critic Chance The Rapper Takes Shots At Rotten Tomatoes

Chance The Rapper wears many hats as an artist, activist, and entrepreneur. Apparently, the Chicago native is also a budding film critic and took to Twitter to effectively roast movie review site Rotten Tomatoes for what he felt was a terrible ranking.

Chano posted on Friday morning that he was taking in the film The House starring Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler, and couldn’t fathom why the site gave it just 17 percent.

Yesterday I watched a movie that I never heard of. It had a 17% on @RottenTomatoes … it was funny as fuck. Wtf @RottenTomatoes,” Chance tweeted.

Chance then went in on Bulworth, which earned a 75 percent ranking. “Nah but y’all gave this shitty racist unfunny fucked up ego trip of a movie a SEVENTY FIVE?!?!” Chance added.

In the end, Chance Rotten Tomatoes rant was just him having a little fun. We’ve collected the tweets for viewing below and on the following pages.

Miu Miu’s Latest Women’s Tales Film to Debut in Venice

MILAN — Miu Miu will present its 14th short film as part of the Women’s Tales series in Venice on August 31 during the city’s international Film Festival. “The End of History Illusion” is directed by dancer, choreographer and filmmaker Celia Rowlson-Hall, best known for her choreography in the hit TV show “Girls” and her work on music videos by Alicia Keys and MGMT.
“I wanted to explore commercialism in the face of fear, creating a spectacle to distract and entertain, an escape from our present-day reality,” said Rowlson-Hall. She set the story during the Cold War era in a Las Vegas nuclear bunker, shaped as a picturesque family home, including a mini-golf course, a dance floor, a swimming pool and two Jacuzzis, designed to survive a nuclear war for an entire year. “When I saw the new Miu Miu collection, there was something about the textiles and colors that made me want to create characters which could come with this space,” she explained. Her vision of Miu Miu is reflected in the spirit of the film — “elastic, grounded, sensitive and risk-taking,” she said.

WATCH: The First Trailer For Bushwick Film [VIDEO]

Before becoming the poster child for gentrification, Bushwick’s only real claim to fame was the BDI Thug, Buckshot (he had everyone in the hood open). Now the piece of Brooklyn that many hipsters and yuppies call home for months at a time is the featured setting for Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott’s action film, Bushwick.

Starring Guardians of The Galaxy actor David Bautista and Brittany Snow, the film centers around a future American civil war where military forces from seceded Texas state invade the Brooklyn neighborhood and declares Martial Law.

With a war going on outside no man is safe from and a gang of trigger happy rebels holding it down in the underground, Bautista and Snow find themselves in a deadly game of survival.

Bushwick debuted back in January at the Sundance Film Festival and gained so much praise that it was nominated for the Narcisse Award for best feature film at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland.

Check out the trailer below and get an idea of how Trump’s Amerikkka will turn out if he’s allowed to serve his full term.

Kanye West Unveils Making Of Yeezy Season 2 Fashion Line With Silent Film

Kanye West‘s Yeezy Season 2 fashion line was formally introduced to the world via a silent film that not only showed off the Chicago superstar’s creative vision, but also the work that goes on behind the scenes. Although the line has been teased since last month, the film gives fans a first peek at the exclusive creations.

The silent film was posted on the recently ressurected Yeezy.Supply site, and it is exactly what one could expect from a Kanye West production. The lack of sound makes the images flashing on screen compelling. The film shows the workers furiously stitching and putting together the line under West’s stern supervision.

There’s no forwarding or rewinding of the film, so once you hit up the page you have to commit.

Mytheresa.com, Balenciaga Team on Fashion Film

BALENCIAGA ACT: Mytheresa.com has teamed with Balenciaga to poke fun at the glamour, exaggeration — and irony — endemic in the industry with a short film to be released on Sunday.
“Une Incroyable Excuse,” is a two-minute short featuring three young French Ladies Who Lunch, and the shocking discovery one of them makes when she opens her handbag to look for her car keys. The short, written and directed by Danny Sangra and filmed on location at Caviar Kaspia in Paris, is the e-tailer’s first fashion film project. The film makes its debut on Showstudio.com on Sunday, and will be posted later in the week on the Mytheresa.com Web site.
The three main characters wear exclusive looks from the Balenciaga fall runway collection, which are available to buy on Mytheresa.com.
Justin O’Shea, the site’s buying director, said one of his favorite movie lines is “Why so serious?” spoken by Heath Ledger’s Joker character in “The Dark Knight,” and he wanted to create something with a sense of humor. “The line has probably never been referenced in a fashion quote,” said O’Shea.
He added: “The idea of this industry being fun is something I feel strongly about, and that was the starting point behind the

16 Iconic Film Roles That Almost Went to Someone Else

iconic movie actor roles

An old Entertainment Tonight clip featuring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams doing press for The Notebook resurfaced online today. In the interview, Gosling confessed that he actually did a screen test with Britney Spears before McAdams ultimately won the part. “I hadn’t seen her really since she was about 12,” the actor said about his former fellow Mouseketeer. “She’s really good, actually.”

While it’s nearly impossible to imagine Spears kissing Gosling during a South Carolina rainstorm, there are several instances in Hollywood history where similarly iconic roles almost went to someone else. Sarah Jessica Parker may be synonymous with Carrie Bradshaw, but the lead role of Sex and the City was actually offered to another actress before Parker. Ditto with Forrest Gump and Elle Woods. Here, a look at some of the other close casting calls in Hollywood.

Sophie Merchant Screens Film, Talks Music

MERCHANT IVORY: Musician Florence Welch recently wore a bespoke silver skirt by designer Sophie Merchant on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury. “We share a love of beautiful clothing,” Merchant said at her spring presentation, noting she, Welch and stylist Aldene Johnson have been collaborating for some years.
Merchant showcased her Merchant Archive collection, inspired by British sculptor Barbara Hepworth, in a moody short film by Olivia Beasley, screened at the new Soho House in London’s Dean Street. Its protagonists are depicted building a house on a beach, recalling Hepworth’s colony of artists in St Ives. Silhouettes such as silk shirtdresses with cone sleeves were designed with “roundness” to echo Hepworth’s sculptures, Merchant said. In addition to the screening, three actual looks were on display, including a circular skirt of scuba wool featuring a graphic seascape in ivory raffia and a suit of jade silk.

Zoe Cassavetes Said Directing Film for Ritz Paris

PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ?: Could Zoe Cassavetes have directed a film for the Ritz relaunch?
Word has it the director of “Broken English” has shot a film involving fashion people and designers for the reopening of Paris’ mythic, five-star hotel.
A spokeswoman for the Ritz Paris had no comment.
There’s a lot of anticipation for the reopening — the hotel is officially taking reservations from March 14 — billed as the biggest refurbishment in the history of the 117-year-old establishment.
Cassavetes, the daughter of actor and filmmaker John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands, is very much plugged into the fashion world. Her fashion credentials include being a muse of Marc Jacobs, participating in Miu Miu’s “Women’s Tales” — and being a front-row regular at fashion shows.

Missoni, Ferragamo and More to Unveil Short Films at Milan Fashion Film Festival

Dries Van Noten, Gucci, Kenzo, Missoni, L’Oréal, Chloé, Salvatore Ferragamo, Etro and Valentino are just a few of the international labels that will participate in the upcoming Milan Fashion Festival, running Sept. 20-22.
Conceived and directed by Kean Etro’s wife, the Argentinian Constanza Cavalli Etro, the event, at its second edition, will be held at a new location, the city’s historical Anteo Spaziocinema theater. More than 200 short films, selected among the 600 that have been submitted, will be screened during the three-day event. The screening schedule will include films by already established directors and upcoming talents.
“Here, big names help new ones,” said Cavalli Etro. “The fact that big brands and film directors take part to the project next to new names helps the festival and upcoming talents to get the right visibility.”
A jury, including photographer Rankin, Vogue Italia’s editor in chief Franca Sozzani and producer Lisa Immordino Vreeland, among others, will assign 13 different awards to the film directors participating.
In addition, starting from Tuesday, anyone will be able to vote their favorite fashion film on the Fashion Film Festival’s Web site.
Also, microfashion films of 15 seconds, fitting social network’s standards, will be shown in one of the theater’s rooms.

Chloe Gosselin, David Copperfield Host a Magical Film Premiere

Magical. It’s a word typically saved for the most resplendent fashion reviews. But in the case of Chloe Gosselin’s fashion week party, it is simply the only word that will do — after all, it was held at David Copperfield’s apartment.
The fete, cohosted by the shoe designer and her magician fiancé, was held in celebration of Gosselin’s first fashion film. “All my shoes are named after poisonous flowers, so since the beginning I’ve had the idea of doing something with danger in it,” she said of the film, which centers around a femme fatale. “We built the whole story around that. The whole thing was a family affair. The model is one of my best friends, and the director is my friend. We just shot it last month in L.A.”
After watching the film, which played on loop in a makeshift theater toward the apartment’s entrance, guests, including Leigh Lezark, Natalie Joos, Sarah Easley and Yumi Lambert distracted themselves with Copperfield’s veritable museum of antique magic machines — fortune tellers, strength machines, et al. “I imagine that at the end of the night everything comes alive,” said one marveled partygoer as another complimented the magician on his vast collection of collectibles. “Just
