As Billboard points out, Patton made the announcement on Saturday (Oct. 20) at Woodward Academy, near Georgia, while rocking his no. 18 high school jersey.

“I just want to thank my family: mom and my dad, coach Davis, my football team…I want to thank [everyone] for making me the man that I am today,” said Cross, in a clip shared on Instagram by his dad. “With that being said, I want to announce that I committed to the University of Oregon.”

Although Patton received scholarship offers, he will join the Oregon Ducks as a walk-on.

Colin Jost on His Favorite SNL Jokes and Playing Football With Aaron Rodgers

Over the years, Saturday Night Live has earned a reputation for its cast and staff putting in long hours and grueling weeks to get a show on the air. From marathon sessions writing jokes, to starting from scratch on skits that aren’t working, it’s basically a six-day-a-week job during the season. As head writer and co-anchor of “Weekend Update” on SNL, Colin Jost knows this all too well.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s 5 Best ‘Saturday Night Live’ Sketches

Jost has been working on the show for over a decade, having started back in 2005 as a writer before rising up to be one of the co-head writers. Over that time, Jost has figured out how to balance all his responsibilities to get things done. For all the craziness that can go on when you’re writing comedy for hours on end, Jost’s tips are pretty simple.

“It’s a little exercise and sleep,” Jost told Men’s Journal. “It’s crazy, because you do the show every week and then you kind of forget what you did last week, because you’re working on the current week, and on it goes. If I can do some kind of exercise three or four days a week, it helps keep me sane. And I know sleep is obvious, but it can really help things to wake up fresh and work more efficiently the next day, rather than stay up all night and work like I did back when I was like 22.”

Jost got to put some of those tips to work this summer while starring with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on a new campaign for Izod. Jost gets pretty physical in the video, which he co-wrote and makes fun of some of the more traditional menswear ads and clichés of the past.

I became an expert with nunchucks, and now I have a pair in my office so I can try and intimidate young writers.

In the campaign, Jost and Rodgers teamed up to make some meta jokes about those traditional ads, and show off some of Jost’s other “skills” in the process—like playing ping-pong with nunchucks:

Jost spoke with Men’s Journal about his favorite Saturday Night Live skits he got to work on, his essential travel tips, playing football with Aaron Rodgers, and who he’s rooting for this NFL season.

What are some of your favorite jokes you’ve worked on for Weekend Update?

I really liked writing and working on the “Drunk Uncle” character that Bobby Moynihan would do was one I enjoyed, and he was just so good at it. I also really enjoyed the character Cecily Strong would do, the “Girl You Wish You Didn’t Start a Conversation With At a Party,” and writing for the David Ortiz “Big Papi” character that Kenan Thompson would do. The three of them are all such great performers and I enjoyed writing those characters and coming up with jokes for them. They’re all incredible actors so it’s crazy to have written some of them, and then be on “Weekend Update” alongside them as characters. It’s so fun to be out there with them and see how much the audience loves them. That’s a special thing I’m enjoying more now that I’m not constantly a ball of nerves out there so you can go out there and enjoy those moments and have fun.

What was it like working with Aaron Rodgers and getting to show off some of your football skills in the Izod video?

The whole crew was great for it and they made the experience really enjoyable, it felt like a vacation in that sense. Aaron was really funny in it, and he has a lot more experience at this point with commercials then I do, so it was fun to see him set the tone and be really funny by playing it straight and get the tone right.

NFL Superstar Aaron Rodgers Talks Super Bowl LII, Loving ‘Game of Thrones,’ and Playing As Long As Tom Brady

You got pretty acrobatic in the video. Was that you doing all your own stunts?

Absolutely, I do all my own stunts. Sometimes, the way I do them is so impressive that you have to get someone else to do them, but I attempt all my own stunts and sometimes someone else eventually has to get in there. I may not be successful, but I try. The crazy skills competition was funny and I did actually get to learn to use nunchucks a little bit. I became an expert with nunchucks, and now I have a pair in my office so I can try and intimidate young writers [laughs]. I’m not really a skilled ping-pong player, so I had to learn a little bit of that on the fly too.

Colin Jost and Aaron Rodgers for Izod

What was it like being able to show your personality in a different setting than SNL?

It was liberating and fun to do it. I don’t get to film a lot of things on the show because I usually have my hands full with “Weekend Update” and writing a lot of other sketches, so it was really a lot of fun to get to do it. Being on the set like that was some of the most fun I’ve had in the moment of shooting something and it was just a really cool experience. It was easy in that sense to be working with someone like Aaron on it.

You do shows around the country and travel a lot during the year. Do you have any travel tips or any essential gear you always try to bring with you?

These days, definitely a phone charger. I still manage to somehow forget it even when I remember it. Something essential I think is a good is having a pair of shoes you can wear for everything when you’re on your trip. If you can wear them most days, that’s pretty big because they can take up a lot in your bag, and if you could only wear one pair of shoes for a week and get away with it—I am always happy doing that. Having multiple shoes on a trip is a lot if you’re just taking one bag. At this point, I’ve really streamlined things and I’ve learned through experience what to bring and what not to bring. I keep it as simple as I can, basically, if I can wear most of my outfit for the week right on the plane I’m pretty happy.

With football season about to start, do you have a team you root for?

I am a big New York Giants fan. I’m excited for the season and to see what Saquon Barkley can do. I’ll admit I’m also a big Aaron Rodgers fan as a football player, so it was pretty cool to appear with him in a project like this. It’s pretty rare you get to do that with an athlete you watch play, so it was really cool to work with him.

Randy Moss Wore Tie With Names Of Black People Killed By Police To Pro Football HOF Induction

Randy Moss is very, very woke. The tie he wore during his induction into the NFL Hall of Fame was emblazoned with the names of 12 African-Americans who were killed by police.

Moss didn’t make mention of the tie during his speech. But he did speak on it during an interview on the NFL Network.

“So, what I wanted to be able to express with my tie is to let these families know that they’re not alone. I’m not here voicing… but by these names on my tie, and a big platform as the Pro Football Hall of Fame, there’s a lot of stuff going on in our country and I just wanted to let these family members know they’re not alone.”

Some of the name on Moss’ tie included Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Walter Scott and Sandra Bland.

Much respect to Randy Moss, and we’re still with Kap.

You have to challenge that call—that should be fourth down.” At press time, Bogdanski was angrily muttering under his breath after officials had upheld the ruling on the field upon reviewing the play.

Sports News in Brief: Tailgaters Playing Sad Little Game Of Pickup Football In Stadium Parking Lot

HOUSTON—Noting that the group has been constantly interrupted by cars slowly driving through searching for open spots, onlookers confirmed Saturday that several Texas A&M tailgaters outside NRG Stadium are playing a pathetic little game of pickup football in the parking lot. “Everyone’s just trying to walk to the game, but you have to pass this sideshow of these guys playing a mini–touch football game and then listen to one of them count down from five before blitzing the quarterback,” said 31-year-old Alex Bennett, adding that the seven middle-aged men—most of whom are wearing football jerseys and khaki shorts—are attempting to play a three-on-four game in the space between rows of parked cars. “They barely have enough room to play, so basically if they complete one pass, it’s a touchdown. #ChristianTaylor: Unarmed Black College Football Player Killed By Police In Alleged Robbery

It’s a travesty that Black Lives Matter is such a booming movement because that means African-Americans are still losing their lives when the situation didn’t call for it.

Nineteen-year-old Angelo State University football player Christian Taylor was recently killed by officers responding to burglary alarm at a Arlington, TX dealership late last night, August 6.

He was unarmed at the time of his death.

Reports Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

Officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress about 1 a.m. at the Classic Buick GMC dealership on the Interstate 20 service road, east of Collins Street, said Sgt. Paul Rodriguez, a police spokesman.

Officer Brad Miller Christian Taylor was a defensive back at Angelo State University. Officer Brad Miller Christian Taylor was a defensive back at Angelo State University.

A security company had called 911 after observing the suspect on camera outside the business.

Rodriguez said police arrived to find that the suspect had used a vehicle to crash into the showroom through the dealership’s front glass.

The officers went and confronted him. There was an altercation. An officer discharged his weapon and struck the suspect,” Rodriguez said.

The suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was not armed with a weapon, Rodriguez said.

The officer, identified by the department as 49-year-old Brad Miller, had just graduated from the police academy in March. He has been in field training and working under the supervision of a police training officer, the department said.

Clyde Fuller, Taylor’s great uncle, described his great nephew as a good man and talented football player who was about to return to college. He said he has many unanswered questions and doesn’t believe Taylor was burglarizing the dealership as police suspected.

“He was a good kid. I don’t see him stealing no car or nothing like that,” Fuller said.

“I think something is going on that somebody is lying about,” Fuller said. “…They say he’s burglarizing the place by running up in there? Nuh-uh. Something doesn’t sound right.”

Rodriguez said the department is in the process of implementing a pilot program for use of body cameras by officers but that no such cameras are currently in use.

So many questions naturally remain. If Taylor was unarmed, where did the guns come into play for the responding officers to use? Additionally, what is the success rate for getting away with robbery when you crash your vehicle into the building? Was he supposed to drive both cars by himself or was their an accomplice on standby?

Diddy Arrested For Serving UCLA Football Coach The Angry Parent Fade

Diddy and his infamous temper have struck again, bad boys and girls.

As you all know, the son of Hip-Hop’s richest attraction is a football player for UCLA and his dad wants to him thrive and flourish on the field.

Earlier today (June 22), a verbal disagreement between Puff and a UCLA football coach transpired and well, let’s just say, he treated him like Drake.

Via TMZ:

P. Diddy has been arrested for allegedly getting into a fight with a football coach at UCLA … where his son is on the team, TMZ Sports has learned.

We’re told Campus Police took the music mogul into custody early Monday afternoon. Diddy’s son, Justin Combs, is a defensive back on the team. We’re told the fight went down at the UCLA athletic facility.

One source says an assistant coach was screaming at Justin on the field. At some point later, we’re told Diddy confronted the coach in his office and grabbed him. Diddy was arrested for assault.

A source connected with Diddy tells TMZ Diddy himself initially wanted to call police, but the phone was taken out of his hands.
Diddy is still in custody at campus jail.

What’s the chances this will hurt Justin’s playing time next season?

And what’s good with those anger management classes?

Not Ready for the NFL Season to End? Visit These Football Film Locations

The best part of any sports movie is the inspirational speech right before The Big Game. Whether it's the Super Bowl or Little League, there's nothing a good, old-fashioned motivational speech can't fix! If watching the classic pep talks from these famous football films still isn't enough to pump you up, then maybe checking out some of the locations where they shot the movies will do the trick instead.

Remember the Titans

In the movie, which is (loosely) based on a true story, Coach Herman Boone takes his team, newly integrated and struggling to bond, on a run and then proceeds to give what is easily one of the top three inspirational sports pump-up speeches at Gettysburg National Military Park — although reportedly, shots were filmed at Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park, which makes sense because a lot of the movie was shot in Georgia.

The Replacements

You could visit Ohio Stadium, since Keanu Reeves' character, Shane Falco, was a former Ohio State QB who choked in his final game and was never able to go pro, or you could visit the Baltimore Ravens' home M&T Bank Stadium, also known as "Nextel Stadium" home of the "Washington Sentinals". Just don't expect any strippers-turned-cheerleaders.

Any Given Sunday

If the NFL doesn't have enough drama for you, then inserting yourself into the semi-alternate universe of Any Given Sunday, where the AFFA league rules and you can see the fictional California Crusaders play at, ironically, Florida's Sun Life Stadium. The Orange Bowl and Texas Stadium, where the fictional Miami Sharks and Dallas Knights played, respectively, have been demolished. It's like they don't even care about the fake history behind the fields!

Jerry Maguire

First, swing by Dorothy's House, and then after your agent shows you the money you can go treat yourself and your date to a nice meal at Paco's Tacos Cantina — and be sure to sit by the fish tank like Jerry and Dorothy if you can swing it.

Varsity Blues

Attempt to recreate the experience of being a super popular Varsity football star by visiting some of the Austin filming locations for the high school classic. The Landing Strip Gentleman's Club is a great place to blow off steam when your controlling coach is being too tough, or if you're not into the strip club scene (but do keep in mind, these are high school boys we're talking about) you can always grab a burger at Top Notch Hamburgers. Whipped cream bikini and terrible fake accents not included.

The Waterboy

If you're a fan of Adam Sandler movies (and don't think that he is, in fact, the devil) you can visit the real-life stadium that served as the home field for the South Central Lousiana State Mud Dogs:  Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand, Florida. Or, if your husband leaves you for a voodoo priestess he met in New Orleans, you can always get advice on the best way to exact revenge at  Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo.

Friday Night Lights (TV)

Clear eyes, full heart, can't lose. Okay, that wasn't always the case for the Dillon Panthers, but you can pay tribute to the TV show by visiting the Panther's Field (Friday Night Lights TV Show) where some of the games were shot (in the early season when it was actually about football, at least). In fact, the reason the Dillon Panthers were even called the Panthers in the first place is because that was the mascot of the high school where they were filming.

Friday Night Lights (Movie)

The movie version portrays Odessa as a tiny little one-horse town, but that's not exactly the case: even back when the movie takes place, there were more than 250,000 people in the greater Odessa area. That adorable little downtown street from the first scene of the trailer is actually Manhattan, Kansas.

Of course, there's nowhere to better experience this iconic football movie than at Notre Dame Stadium (seriously, duh.) You can cheer on the underdog or just dream of hearing the crowd chanting your name as your beloved teammates carry you off the field (is that so much to ask?), but even spending even a few hours on Notre Dame's campus will give you an idea of just how much these fans love football. And make sure to say hi to Touchdown Jesus!

Blind Side

While this high school football movie takes place in Memphis, it was mostly filmed in Georgia, including (oddly enough) at Agnes Scott College, Decatur's women's college. But, (spoiler alert, but not really since this is based on a true story and we all know how it ends) the happy ending sees Michael Oher playing for Ole Miss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Longest Yard

We can't be sure what the inmates at Georgia State Prison are up to at any given moment, but I guess there's a chance that Burt Reynolds is leading a ragtag team of prisoners in a high-stakes football exhibition game against the guards (we're pretending that the 2005 Adam Sandler remake didn't happen. Plus, two Adam Sandler movies in one list is a bit much).

Brian’s Song

Contemplate one of the saddest made-for-TV movies ever (seriously, think about how it was based on a true story and try to not cry) made with a thoughtful walk (we won't tell anyone if you shed a tear or two) along Lakeshore Drive near the  John G. Shedd Aquarium.

Little Giants

Fumblerooski, fumblerooski! If you forgot just how dramatic pee-wee football can be, relive Little Giants at the field at John Burroughs High School in Burbank. Now, if only all pee-wee coaches could be more like Rick Moranis…

Has This Husband Taken His Football Fandom Too Far? | The Oprah Winfrey Show | Oprah Winfrey Network

Original airdate: November 24, 1993

Cathy Crispino’s husband, Joe, was what some people would call a ‘sports fanatic.’ He had four (tube) televisions in his living room alongside the Sportscaster, a machine that beamed scores directly into homes long before phones could fit into pockets. Suffice it to say, Cathy was none too happy with Joe’s pigskin addiction.
