WhenHub SAFT (Simple Agreement for Future Tokens)

Today might be one of the biggest days of my life, and it will be impossible to explain why that is so unless you know at least a little bit about blockchain, dAPPS, cryptocurrencies, Ethereum, and the legal distinction between a Simple Agreement for Future Tokens (SAFT) and an ICO.

If those words look unfamiliar, one of the biggest technical revolutions the world has ever known is sneaking up on you. The folks in Silicon Valley — who live about three years in the future compared to the rest of the country — can’t stop talking about this topic. The smartest people in the Valley tell me blockchain will change nearly everything, and already is. It’s like “the Internet” before anyone had heard of the Internet. That’s how big it is.

One small example is that startups are raising funds by creating and selling their own digital “tokens” or “coins,” using blockchain technology, that serve as the payment mechanisms within their products. The tokens have an advantage over regular money in part because you can program simple rules for them using distributed apps, or dAPPS, to add function to your product. And blockchain brings its own set of advantages I’ll mention below.

In the case of WhenHub, a dAPP will trigger an automatic payment when certain conditions are met. The effect is to eliminate billing and invoicing efforts for micro-contracts while creating a distributed record of each transaction that is impervious to manipulation.

image

My example doesn’t get at the full power of blockchain. It’s just one of the many things it can do.

The reason people buy these digital tokens from startups is that they hope the value will rise as the startup adds customers. The tokens are artificially limited in quantity, so the value of each token increases with demand. Customers of the startup won’t notice the rise in token value because prices within the product are pegged to nominal “real money” value. In other words, if one token is worth a dollar today, but worth ten dollars tomorrow, the startup auto-adjusts the price within the product to ten-percent of a token. The customer always pays the same “real money” price even as token values rise.

Tokens can easily be exchanged for Bitcoins or cash on websites that do that sort of thing. See Bitcoin Exchanges.

The process of creating digital tokens to raise funds is called an ICO (initial coin offering) when you do it the wild-west unregulated way. If you lawyer-up in advance, jumping through lots of (expensive) hoops to minimize future regulatory risks, your lawyers will tell you to call it a Simple Agreement for Future Tokens (SAFT). A SAFT is a contract with the startup to issue you tokens if and when it is able to launch a network in which the token has utility value. That’s what WhenHub is announcing today.

To be clear, ICOs and SAFTs are not investments, nor do they give the buyer equity in the startup. But they do provide an easy way — compared to angel investing — to share in whatever success the startup experiences. With SAFTs and ICOs the startup describes its plans in a white paper so any potential token buyers can evaluate the risks. WhenHub already has several products on the market, with more coming soon, but we describe in our white paper a proposed new product that is based on our existing scheduling platform and takes advantage of blockchain. The proposed product (WhenHub Interface) is the one that will use digital tokens.

If you are new to this field, I hope I just gave you a toe-hold for understanding it. And I would be delighted if you share this post with friends.

Our tokens are only available in Australia, Canada, European Economic Area, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Japan, Russian Federation, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States (excluding New York State). If you are in the United States, you need to be an Accredited Investor (meaning kinda rich) to participate. Outside the United States, regulatory restrictions are lower.

Our Pre-sale is now in progress and our Public Sale starts on Nov. 10, 2017. During the Pre-sale, the minimum purchase amount is $ 50,000 and participants get an Early Bird bonus of 30%. For the Public Sale the minimum amount is $ 250, and the the Early Bird discount starts at 20% and decreases to none in two weeks.

Here’s the executive summary from our white paper. A link to the full paper is at the end.

Executive Summary

WhenHub proposes to build a mobile app for connecting
consumers to experts of all kinds via two-way video
streams, text, audio, or in person. The app will be part
of a larger service ecosystem called the WhenHub
Interface Network (WIN) (Patent Pending).

The service will use dAPPS (distributed apps) running
on the Ethereum blockchain to create secure micro-contracts
– that can be as short as 15 minutes – as well
as to provide frictionless billing and payment service. At
the end of each micro-contract, payment in the form of
WHEN Tokens will be automatically transferred to the
expert. No paperwork or billing is involved.

Users buy WHEN Tokens using a credit card or with
Bitcoins at an online exchange via the WhenHub
Interface app. The tokens are used within the app to pay
experts for their time.

For privacy, your phone number and address are not
shared with experts.

Our partners will provide verification services on
participating experts to give consumers confidence.

No international billing and currency issues when WHEN
Tokens are involved.

Pricing for experts can be fixed or auction-based.

In the gig economy, think of this product as a “long tail”
market for expert advice. Experts of all kinds can display
their availability whenever they like, for as short a window
as 15 minutes.

The WhenHub Interface app will use the existing
commercial WhenHub API for scheduling and geofencing
features.

WhenSense is our proposed technology for allowing
third-party sites to host ads about our participating
experts’ availability and share in the income from
completed contracts. Site owners paste our HTML code
into their site to participate.

WHEN Tokens are not an investment vehicle, but
because they will be artificially limited in quantity, their
value is expected to fluctuate based on customer
demand for the WhenHub Interface app.

WHEN Tokens are now available for public purchase via
a formal offering. Visit this page for details of the
offering.

Young Thug ft. Future “Relationship,” Uncle Murda ft. 50 Cent & Jeremih “On & On” & More | Daily Visuals 9.28.17

Rappers gone wild!

Well, maybe not literally but in the visuals to Young Thug’s “Relationship,” he and Future take it back to the VHS era when home camcorders captured young women doing the most and recorded the kind of behavior that they’d have a hard time explaining to their future children.

We know lots of grown women today are glad VHS players are a thing of the past.

Back on the block Uncle Murda, 50 Cent and Jeremih give some attractive young women a taste of the good life and take them on a trip to La La Land in the clip to “On & On.”

Check out the rest of today’s drops including work from Dave East featuring Chris Brown, Curren$ y & Lex Luger, and more.

Fabolous “We Good,” Uncle Murda ft. Future “Right Now” & More | Daily Visuals 10.28.15

The Last time we saw the F-A-B-O-L-O-U-S he was reliving the role that made Tupac Shakur a household name in the hood with his visuals to “Gone For The Winter.” Now Fab returns with another Hip-Hop cinematic classic with the Rich Homie Quan-assisted “We Good” re-enacting one of the more under the radar 90’s cult classics, Dead Presidents.

If Fab’s aim this year was to resurrect classic 90’s Hip-Hop cinema with his visuals then we’re kind of disappointed he didn’t take advantage of that flat-top he had and recreate New Jack City or House Party. Just sayin’.

Uncle Murda links up with Future and takes a stab at crafting some trap house music while up in the club in the visuals to “Right Now.” Luckily Uncle Murda had the good sense not to tattoo Future’s name on his person after hooking up with the ATLien for this track.

Check the rest of today’s visuals which include work from Obie Trice, The Posterz, and more.

Future Opens Up About Ciara And His Relationship With Drake And Meek Mill

Whether it’s about his no. 1 album, Dirty Sprite 2, or his bad blood with his ex-fiancee Ciara, Future remains the talk of the town. The Freebandz rep is XXL’s latest cover star and opened up not only about his beef with Ciara but the feud between his two hip-hop comrades, Drake and Meek Mill.

When it comes to Ciara and her boyfriend Russell Wilson, Future claims that he does not have an issue with Wilson being around his son, but he feels Ciara does certain things in the spotlight out of spite.

“I’m telling you right now, I’m giving you two sides. Like, I’m cool with it. I’m cool with him being around him but certain situations, we all in the public eye, you can’t move around with my son a certain kind of way, you know what I’m saying? I feel like a lot of moves are just made out of just being evil, basically. Because, you know, the success of my album and you still want to make certain moves to take the spotlight off me a little bit and shed light on a negative situation. Why would you want to put light on a negative situation? Even if I didn’t care about it, the people have a way of looking at it. Why would you want to give these people an opinion on our kid? Why won’t we just let our child be a child?”

[ALSO READ: Early Sales Predictions For Drake & Future’s ‘What A Time To Be Alive’ Are In]

Fewtch also said that he never got to know Wilson, which is another gripe he has with CiCi.

“I want to be able to judge him for myself. I want to judge the nannies that’s around my child. I don’t want to pay for a nanny that I never met, that I never got a chance to interview. That’s not the life I want for my child. I want to be involved 100 percent in all decisions made. This my flesh and blood. If I don’t want him to do something, there’s supposed to [be a] compromise or we supposed to talk about it. You not supposed to just go behind my back and do it. This is my son, too.”

As for the tension between Drizzy and Meek, the “Honest” rapper said he has love for both of them but didn’t comment on their beef or Meek’s claims that Drake doesn’t write his own rhymes.

“On some real shit, I love Meek. And the Drake situation, I feel like genuinely we’ve been building a great relationship over these years. We got history together. We went on a few tours together so it was like, publicly, some things was said and it was took out of context. And even with the situation coming out, we put it all behind us, went on a sold out tour and we built from that and I feel like it’s genuine, it’s authentic and we built trust between each other. So with trust it’s just bringing us closer because in this industry, as you get bigger, I feel like you lose trust for everyone around you. You feel like the people you come in contact with, you can’t trust them. So I feel like it had to happen over years, that couldn’t happen over a few months.”

Future just dropped a joint project with Drake, What A Time To Be Alive, which is projected to sell over 500,000 copies its first week.

Drake Reveals Release Date, Album Cover & Title Of Mixtape With Future [PHOTO]

If you have been keeping up with your Drizzy timesheet, you will know that the e-streets have been salivating with anticipation over the release of his mixtape with Future.

Now that it has been officially confirmed, the details are slowly being rolled out inch by inch. So, gather ’round hustlers, that’s if you’re still living, because the tape now has a due date, an album cover (not the codeine-covered owl that has maneuvered through the Internets these past few days) and a title.

What A Time To Be Alive.

Drake recently let loose an Instagram post revealing that he has his Free Bandz compadre plan to make this a full-blown event that should rival attention spans towards the return of the NFL.

What A Time To Be Alive will be released tomorrow, September 20 via Apple Music (of course!) at 8 p.m. EST.

As for the album cover, it’s simply a close-up shot of a batch of flawlessly cut diamonds. Hopefully the music matches the photo.

Future “The Percocet & Stripper Joint,” Travi$ Scott “Antidote” & More | Daily Visuals 9.18.15

T-Pain might’ve been in love with a stripper but I doubt he ever took it to the level Future has.

For the visuals to “The Percocet & Stripper Joint” Future Hendrix locks himself in a telly with stacks of cash, pills, and enough strippers to open up his own club while conjuring up a laid back 90’s West Coast sound to groove to. For some reason this seems like the proper song to play when pulling up the Ashley Madison website.

Mac Miller meanwhile keeps the intriguing visuals off his GO:OD AM LP coming. In “Brand New” Miller imagines his life as the head of an interracial family (like strangely interracial) while working an everyday 9 to 5 like the average Joe Schmo. Needless to say, it was pretty lame, but then again we all know that.

Check out the rest of today’s releases which include work from Travi$ “say something bad about him and Rihanna will come for you” Scott, August Alsina featuring Lil Wayne, and more.

Man’s ‘Proposal’ To His Future Stepdaughter Couldn’t Be Sweeter

When William Ledbetter popped the question to his girlfriend Paige Evans, he made sure to include one other very important person in his plans: Paige’s 5-year-old daughter Maddie.

On September 2, the couple’s second anniversary, William proposed to Paige at their home in Gray, Georgia. Afterwards, he also “proposed” to future stepdaughter Maddie, presenting her with her own ring.

“You want to be my daughter forever, too?” he sweetly asks in the video, which was posted to YouTube earlier this month.

(Story continues after the video.)

After a little prompting, Maddie says, “Yes!”

William told The Huffington Post that he had some family photos matted and framed as part of Paige’s anniversary present. While she was reading the card that accompanied the gift, he asked her to marry him.

“I didn’t want Maddie to see the pictures and ring I got for Paige and feel left out,” he said. “So I actually got Maddie a ring as well, along with a necklace and earrings so she would feel like she had ‘won’ over her mommy [by getting more].”

“I included Maddie because any time I give her mom presents, she’s always right there wanting to open them for her and talking about how much she loves whatever I got her mom,” William added.

Watch the heartwarming moment unfold in the video above. That hug that William and Maddie share at the end couldn’t be more adorable!

Future Brings Out Drake & Norm Kelly In Toronto [VIDEO]

Future knows how to pay homage. The Atlanta rapper brought out Serena Williams’ bad luck charm Drake and Norm Kelly (a politician and Meek Mill slanderer) while performing in Toronto.

There’s still no mixtape between Drake and Future yet, or any further telltale signs that it’s even happening since Thursday’s initial buzz. However, Future played Toronto University university on Friday night and the 6 God, of course, made sure he was well received in the city. Drake didn’t come alone either, bringing with him councilman Norm Kelly, the politician who issued the no-fly zone warning to Meek Mill at the outset of that whole fiasco.

Always pay your respects to the 6 God(s).

If the rumors indeed pan out, the alleged Drake and Future mixtape may be the biggest musical release since Kanye West’s Gradution; or Jay Z’s The Blueprint if it turns out to be the classic everybody hopes it to be.

Much like he did with If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, the Canadian all-star is giving the world little time to prep for his bombshell of a release. And much like the aforementioned platinum-selling mixtape, DJ Skee has hinted at the Drake and Future mixtape’s existence, so if it magically lands in your lap in the next 24 hours, just remember we told you not be surprised.

Meek Mill Addresses Reports He Dissed Future At Made In America Festival

(AllHipHop News) Meek Mill was caught up in more reports he took shots at another popular rapper. Comments the Philadelphia rapper made during his set at this year’s Made In America Festival were interpreted as a diss toward Future.

“You’re playing all motherf*cking Future tonight,” Meek could be heard telling his DJ. “If you don’t play some motherf*cking rap sh*t too. Play some hot sh*t too. I think Future’s on Made In America.”

The Dream Chasers leader posted a message on Instagram to clear up rumors his words were meant to be disrespectful toward Future. According to Meek, he does not have a problem with his “Jump Out The Face” collaborator or his music.

Meek wrote:

My DJ caught a Future attack on the set when he was told play a bunch of artist sh*t! Lol He prolly did it because I tell [him to] play all Future in the club! Don’t get it f*cked up we rather see the streets win b4 anything!

“While we all want great medical care, we also want doctors who listen to us and convey empathy–an understanding of our feelings and concerns, reflected in a warm demeanor. This can help us to trust and feel connected to them. But that combination can be hard to find….

Following a wave of research suggesting the far-reaching benefits of emotionally attuned physicians, leaders [in the medical profession] have been exploring ways to infuse more empathy into the medical field. That includes re-evaluating the criteria for who should get admitted to medical school in the first place, and what they should learn while they’re there. Their reforms raise questions about what constitutes quality medical care, how (and whether) it can be trained, and how much change is even possible in the American medical system today.”

That article discussed the increase in satisfaction level and response from the patients of empathic physicians and the positive impact it had on the doctors themselves in that they “experience less stress, cynicism, and burnout than those with less empathy.” It also mentioned that the current way in which doctors are trained causes an “erosion of empathy.”

The comparison between medicine and law is striking in this regard.

Those who tend to be attracted to law school in the first place tend to be logical thinkers (rule oriented) and have low EQ levels. Moreover, the research indicates that the training students receive in law school also causes an “erosion of empathy.” Furthermore, the more empathic students tend to drop out of law school at a much higher rate. Moreover, “lawyers with ‘higher levels of resilience, empathy, initiative and sociability’ are more likely to leave law practice than those with lower levels of those traits.” In fact, “some US law firms have used this assessment metric (a scale to measure sociopaths on a scale of 0 to 40, with higher levels being extreme behaviour) in their hiring practice, preferring to employ lawyers with sociopathic index close to 29.

The public’s perception of attorneys reflects this reality. In fact, in 2002, the Section of Litigation of the American Bar Association prepared a report entitled, “Public Perceptions of Lawyers Consumer Research Findings”. The findings were as follows: “The legal profession is among the least reputed institutions in American society…. Lawyers have a reputation for winning at all costs, and for being driven by profit and self-interest, rather than client interest.” Lawyers “are believed to manipulate both the system and the truth…. Lawyers’ tactics are said to border on the unethical, and even illegal. This idea does not just come from the media. Personal experiences bear it out.” Sadly, the findings from all subsequent research has been very much the same.

Unfortunately, that’s not all. The following quote from an article by J. Randolph Evans and Shari Klevens titled “Awareness can save lawyers in distress” that was published in the August 14, 2015 edition of the Los Angeles Daily Journal is consistent with everything I have read on the subject:

“The numbers are shocking and sad. Although suicide is the 10th leading cause of death among all Americans, it is the third leading cause of death among attorneys, after cancer and heart disease. That’s nearly six times the suicide rate for the general population….

[A]ttorneys as a group are very susceptible to succumbing to the pressures of a professional practice. Sometimes this means the abuse of narcotics and alcohol, depression and abandonment of clients and practices. Other times it means a state of ultimate hopelessness – suicide.”

According to the American Bar Association, “it is estimated that 18 to 20 percent of the nation’s lawyers abuse alcohol or drugs. By comparison, among the general population, including persons in other highly stressful professions such as physicians and pilots, the estimated rate of chemical abuse is at a much lower eight to ten percent.”

While many law schools now offer courses in mediation, they tend to be elective courses and therefore many law students don’t take them. Furthermore, merely teaching mediation techniques is inadequate because that alone doesn’t help to increase the students’ EQ levels. While emotional intelligence skills can be learned, those skills must be internalized to be effective. Otherwise, our habitual way of reacting or behaving during conflict will preempt any training we receive.

Social and emotional skills such as empathy are essential to conflict resolution. Therefore, those best suited to work in conflict resolution should have high EQ levels (Emotional Intelligence). People frequently confuse “conflict resolution or management” with “dispute resolution.” Conflicts are emotional and disputes are fact-based.

Legal disputes are typically resolved through litigation or litigated negotiation, which are adversarial processes and thereby exacerbate the conflict in order to resolve the dispute. Since conflicts and disputes are often confused or intertwined, it is essential that lawyers be better trained in resolving, or at least de-escalating conflicts. People with low EQ levels can generally resolve disputes, but not the underlying conflicts.

People with high EQ levels have an increased self-awareness, which helps them to recognize and identify the way in which they react to things and is essential to self-management, which helps people to conduct themselves in a manner most suitable for achieving their desired outcomes. People with high EQ levels also tend to make fewer false assumptions as to people’s underlying motives, are more empathic and thereby better able to consider various perspectives. Those with greater emotional intelligence are also more aware of how their actions impact the quality of interpersonal relationships involved and do their best not to sabotage those relationships.

Meanwhile, those attracted to the practice of law are known to have low EQ levels and law school tends to erode whatever empathy those students had at the outset.

At the 50th Anniversary Conference for AFCC (Association of Family and Conciliation Courts) in 2013, Paul J. De Muniz, Distinguished Jurist in Residence, Willamette University College of Law and Former Chief Justice, Oregon Supreme Court said the following: “We need law schools to start to train lawyers who are able to effectively meet the public’s needs. This is not occurring anywhere yet.”

Law schools must begin recognizing the damage that is being caused to interpersonal relationships and our overall society, due to the low EQ levels of those involved in the field of law and make a concerted effort to address this extremely serious problem. Law schools might learn a thing or two from the changes taking place in the education of future physicians. It would benefit everyone if “leaders [in the legal field began ] exploring ways to infuse more empathy into the [legal] field. That includes re-evaluating the criteria for who should get admitted to [law] school in the first place, and what they should learn while they’re there. Their reforms [should] raise questions about what constitutes quality [legal] care, how (and whether) it can be trained, and how much change is even possible in the American [legal] system today.”

That Time ‘Gilmore Girls’ Predicted The Future Of Online News

“Gilmore Girls” was a groundbreaking show. It was celebrated for its portrayal of a nuanced relationship between a single mother and daughter, was written in a trademark style and has experienced a major resurgence in popularity in the past year, since coming to Netflix.

We always knew the show was special, but we didn’t realize how extraordinarily prescient it could be at times. In fact, one of its main characters predicted the future of feel-good news (the kind of thing you’d see on Upworthy today) all the way back in 2005.

In the show’s sixth season, Lorelai Gilmore expresses her frustration with all of the bad news being reported in the newspaper, then says she plans to start her own publication that’s only for “good” news.

Sound familiar? It should. Positive-leaning sites like Upworthy, ViralNova and even The Huffington Post’s own Good News page have attracted huge followings in the past few years.

Research shows that exposure to inspirational news can significantly improve your mood – which might explain why these sites have become so popular.

Lorelai’s idea was a good one, and it was years ahead of its time. (Upworthy launched in 2012.) And to think we always considered Rory the smart one!

An Open Letter to My Future Parents In-Law

The night we booked our dream wedding venue, my fiance’s mother called in a panic because she forgot to mail their birthday gift to me. After chatting a few minutes, the bright pink elephant in the room was broached: Would they attend our wedding?
The heartbreaking conversation that followed boiled down to they wouldn’t attend because they “follow the Bible.”

Days later my birthday card arrived, enclosed with a gift card, and signed “Love, Russ & Pat.” Every speck of glitter that fell from it mocked us. Over 17 years they had built such a convincing facade of acceptance. With painful clarity, I realized whenever they had cryptically said they were “praying for us,” it wasn’t for a safe drive home or for Tim and his brother to make amends. They never outwardly said it before, but their “love the sinner/hate the sin” mentality became obvious. Which is why their gift and the card ended up in a return envelope with the following letter.

July 20, 2015

Dear Russ & Pat:

Please, don’t discard this letter without reading it through. I write not to attack or disparage you or your beliefs. I would, however, issue you a challenge to really examine the actions you’ve taken in the name of those beliefs. Please, hear what I have to say. I think it is important you understand what has transpired and only wish to ask some admittedly difficult questions and beseech you to honestly consider them before dismissing me out of hand.

First of all, thank you for the birthday card and gift card; the sentiment was nice. I just wish it felt sincere — if not for me, then for your son, Tim. Oh, I know you love him (indeed both of us) in the best way you know how. Just like I know a lifetime of learning doctrine to mean one thing is not easy to reconcile with conflicting truths or even admit that it may be at least partially flawed. But not to even make an attempt to understand that the love you have for your living flesh-and-blood son should trump millennia-old religious texts written at a time when slavery was status quo, women were property and eating pork or shellfish was punishable by death or banishment is disheartening. No person can take every single Biblical tenet as literal law. You may protest that you do, but you and I both know the reverse is true, even if only to a degree.

Russ, surely you never shunned your wife as unclean during a certain time of the month to the extent you wouldn’t even share furniture with her. Pat, surely you wouldn’t agree to Russ keeping concubines or to you marrying his brother if he should die. And I’m pretty sure Carolyn wasn’t shunned, banished or condemned to death for divorcing one husband and taking another. So why do you take the fleeting six references to gay people in both the Old and New Testaments as nonnegotiable truth and law? Why won’t you at least entertain the possibility that the way in which scripture on this particular topic has been taught, like so many others that came before it regarding anti-miscegenation, race, slavery and women, may be flawed and tainted by archaic bias falsely cloaked under the insidious fallacy of “love the sinner, hate the sin”? Being gay is not a choice. It is not some addiction or disease that can be cured. It is innate and immutable. You can no more successfully hope and pray for a person’s orientation to change than you could hope and pray for a tomato to change into a brick.

Believe me. I wasted years of my youth trying to change because people I loved and respected expected it of me. I didn’t want to face what seemed like at the time would be an eternity of ostracism and hatred and loneliness. I tried and I tried. And I failed. And it took me a long time to realize that being who I am would lead to none of those fates — but hating myself for being who I am would. Finally, I learned that being gay is an inborn trait no different than height and hair color. After all, if it weren’t, don’t you think centuries of fervent efforts to rid humanity of it would have shown at least some modicum of success? Yet here we are.

I, and all gay people like me and your son, could no sooner turn heterosexual than you could will your eyes to change colors. And just like possessing eye colors that not everyone shares, being gay is just one in a pantheon of benignly healthy and natural human traits. We are born gay and someday, far in the future, we will die gay. Just as you are born with the eye color you will die with. It is a neuropsychological and biological fact. So, when you “hate the sin” in this instance, you are indeed hating the “sinner.”

The only choice any of us has in the matter is how we react to what is a perfectly natural form of human life. My mother could not accept it at first. She had been raised to believe as you do that gay people like your son and me are depraved and lascivious monsters. When I was forced out of the closet to her, she faced a choice: Believe what others had told her, or believe her own eyes, heart, mind and soul. Thankfully, after a difficult struggle that took a couple of years of hard honesty and self-examination, she embraced me unconditionally. Which is why I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. Experience taught me when people reject fear and instead open themselves to love, they change for the better.

Your actions and loving attitudes toward us over the past nearly two decades had given me hope that you acknowledged us as a committed couple who commanded at least some of the respect and dignity afforded to married couples like Tim’s brother and his wife. Our lack of marriage wasn’t through any lack of wanting. Had we been able to marry when we wanted, we would be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary, not planning our wedding 17 years after we met and fell in love.

So I must admit, when Tim called you to find out if you would attend our wedding and you told him you would not even consider being there for him because you “just wouldn’t feel comfortable,” I was (and still am) shocked and deeply saddened. Look at your son. I mean honestly look at your son. He is loving, caring, generous of spirit, honest, creative, witty, helpful and talented in so many ways. That you will not allow yourselves to celebrate and love him unconditionally as I do is mindboggling. Instead you focus on one facet of his being that others have told you is flawed and detestable and condemn him for it. He may not show it, but he is devastated that the last 20 years of what he thought was growing acceptance on your part now feels like just so much lying (a sentiment I can’t help but share).

I hope this is not the case. The eternal optimist in me hopes your love for him truly is unconditional and is merely and unfortunately at odds with your faith to such an extent that you are unsure how you should act or how you should feel, but that, regardless, eventually you will land on the side of love rather than fear.

But the realist in me fears that is not the case. Deep down, I’m afraid that you are truly choosing how you’ve been taught to interpret your faith over allowing yourselves to love your son wholly and unconditionally. And to allow such a thing causes an astoundingly profound disservice to everyone involved.

Please prove the realist in me wrong. You are missing out on what should be a truly wonderful relationship with your son that is more than just awkward small talk made to hide your uncomfortable truth in a desperate attempt to keep him in your life. It would be real. It would be honest. It would be unconditionally loving. You would want to celebrate him as much as I do, not hide away who he is like a dirty secret.

As an aside, we don’t want to destroy marriage or “redefine” it. We want to join in its exalted status. To declare to each other and the world vows of love and fidelity to one another and only one another. You may feel uncomfortable with it, you may even loathe the very notion. But it is fact. Now that we legally can, we will be getting married this fall. I just wish you had chosen to be there and celebrate with us and the rest of those whom we hold dearest in our hearts.

But that moment has passed. The damage is done and I fear there is no going back. Regardless of your motives or justifications or future attempts to reconcile, the simple fact is you chose the words of an ancient book and the fire-breathing vitriol of preachers over the love of your own child.

This is why I must regretfully return your card and gift; I just don’t feel comfortable keeping them.

With sincere love and respect,

James

P. Diddy & Pharrell “Finna Get Loose,” Future “I Serve That Base,” & More | Daily Visuals 8.6.15

Throwback Thursday really does live up to its name as today’s visuals feature artists who dominated the 90’s.

First off is P. Diddy who enlists the talents of Skateboard P to help him jam out in a club scene similar to that of the infamous Tunnel (80’s babies know what I’m talking about) on this Hype Williams directed “Finna Get Loose.”

On the other side of the states Warren G utilizes vocals left behind by Nate D-O-Double-G (R.I.P.) and kicks that Left Coast G-funk that’s been absent for quite some time on his latest cut, “My House.”

And leave it to a rapper like Future to take TBT to the next level. For the visuals to “I Serve The Base” Ciara’s baby daddy uses stock footage of his trapping days from 2004 to give you a better idea of the kind of life he came from to make it this far. Russell Wilson better take notice!

Check out the rest of today’s releases which include work from legendary group Public Enemy, T-Pain, and more.

Future “Kno The Meaning,” Gunplay “White B*tch,” & More | Daily Visuals 7.31.15

Even though it’s been one of the most eventful week’s in recent Hip-Hop history thanks to Drake’s diss records and social media’s slander of Meek Mill’s entire existence, it’s been rather slow on the visual side of things. Today is no exception as only a handful of audio cuts got the video treatment.

Future taps into the well of his last LP Dirty Sprite 2 and breathes life into one of its standout tracks, “Kno The Meaning.”

Treating the incarceration of his DJ Esco as a sort of religious experience for himself, Future uses this video to express his feelings on the situation while sitting at a coffessional booth and burning down a blunt which he eventually passes to the man of God listening on the other side of the window. This would’ve probably drawn criticism from the Vatican a few years back, but this new “Rock Star” Pope seems to be on a live and let live policy. So it’s all good.

And Gunplay takes his drug metaphors to the absolute next level with his latest offering, “White B*tch.” Off his finally released debut album Living Legend, the visual features a woman – who doesn’t even look white – personifying the life of a brick of snow in every way possible.

And the hits just keep coming for MMG.

10 Things We Learned From Future On The Breakfast Club

A nonchalant Future recently stopped by The Breakfast Club to discuss his new Dirty Sprite album, moving back to Atlanta, patching things up with Drake and where he stands with his ex-fiancée Ciara after she was spotted with Russell Wilson, their son in tow.

“If I was a kid, and my momma had some dude pushing me, I would’ve jumped out the stroller and slapped the sh*t out of him,” he said in reference to Ciara allowing the NFL star to play daddy. “You never do that in our community…you’ve only known this dude for a few months and bring him around your son, who does that?!” Future maintains that Ciara could easily have a team of nannies and assistants to help her with Baby Future while she gets to know Russ and that he’s not for all of the “publicity stunts.”

But Future Hendrix was cool as a cucumber in the discussion moderated by a rather feverish Charlamagne, DJ Envy and Angela Yee. Hit the flip to see what else we learned from their talk.

Earl Sweatshirt Calls Odd Future A “Teenage Boys Club” He Doesn’t Want To Define Him

(AllHipHop News) Up to this point Odd Future affiliates Earl Sweatshirt, Matt Martians of The Internet, and Tyler, The Creator have made it clear the California collective is not what it once was. Tyler ignited the public discussion of the end of OF with one tweet in May, Earl backed up that sentiment, and Martians expounded on the situation in an interview with AllHipHop.com.

[ALSO READ: EXCLUSIVE: The Internet’s Matt Martians Explains Why Odd Future Needed To Come To A Close]

“It’s a badge. It’s a great thing. Everything has to move on. Everything has to have closure,” said Matt last month. “I think what rose from that is what really matters. A lot of great careers spawned from that, and a lot of great careers will continue to spawn from that.”

Earl has now further explained why he wants to shed the label of Odd Future. The creator of the critically acclaimed album I Don’t Like Sh*t, I Don’t Go Outside spoke with The Guardian.

“The OF thing follows you – it’s viral – even though not one thing I’ve done in the past couple years has been focused on OF,” stated Earl. When asked if Odd Future is a family he wants to escape, the Los Angeles native added, “It’s my teenage boy club that got famous that I’m trying to not be defined by.”

In The Future, You Could Control Your Shoes’ Color With Your Phone

Black sneaker not really gelling with your outfit? Pop open an app on your smartphone and add a streak of yellow.

+rehabstudio, a company that makes innovative marketing campaigns, recently unveiled its concept for the “Shift Sneaker,” a shoe comprised of material that can communicate with your smartphone and shift colors on demand.

A look at how the Shift Sneaker would work. (Source: +rehabstudio)

“Shift Sneaker explores what might be possible in the near future based on various existing materials, which currently only have industrial applications, and forecasted materials like phase change fibres and meta-materials, which are still to be made,” Mike Veitch, Managing Partner at +rehabstudio, told The Huffington Post via email.

In theory, there are a lot of clever applications for a smart shoe that could change colors on a dime. +rehabstudio posted a few ideas on its website: You could take a selfie to automatically swap the color of your shoes to match your clothing; a “running pack” could make the sneakers glow different colors depending on whether or not you’re on pace; a “cycling pack” would keep folks safe at night with bright, glowing colors.

Don’t get too excited, though. The sneakers are still very much a theoretical concept. You won’t see them until phase-change fibers and meta-materials are actually manufacturable for consumer products, Veitch said. But when that happens, he imagines these high-tech kicks might cost about as much as an average shoe — and generate more money from color packs on your smartphone, of course.

For now, wearable technology like the Apple Watch or Android Wear smartwatches might represent the best opportunity for chameleonic fashion. The DressWatch app lets you snap a picture of your clothes and change your smartwatch’s face to match the color palette, for example.

And “adaptive” surfaces might soon crop up in the world around you. Veitch told HuffPost that +rehabstudio is currently making smart storefronts a reality, meaning you could get a personalized experience the moment you walk past a shop window. Neat!

Publisher: Penguin Publishing Group

Seller: Penguin Group (USA) Inc.

From Laurie Anderson to Vampire Weekend, Roy Blount, Jr., to Renée Fleming, Stephen Colbert to Bill T. Jones—more than 100 luminaries reflect on the treasures of America’s favorite public library. Marking the centennial of The New York Public Library’s Beaux-Arts landmark at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street, now called the Stephen A. From among the Library’s vast collections, these writers, artists, philosophers, scientists, musicians, athletes, architects, choreographers, and journalists—as well as some of the curators who have preserved these riches—each select an item and describe its unique significance. The result, in words and photographs, is a glimpse of what a great library can be. For more than sixty-five years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,500 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines.
