Pusha T Responds To Drake With Filthy “The Story Of Adidon” Diss Track, Twitter Going Nuts

Pusha T 'Daytona' Album Listening Party

Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty

Drake definitely got the whole Hip-Hop world talking after dropping the “Duppy” diss track aimed squarely at Pusha T and Kanye West, getting in some shots most didn’t expect. King Push rested a bit to let the holiday weekend pass and returned fire with “The Story Of Adidon” and it got really personal really fast.

Rapping over Jay-Z’s “The Story Of O.J.” and using the name of the Brooklyn mogul’s late father, Pusha wasted no time in getting into it with blistering bars.

“Drug dealin’ aside, ghostwritin’ aside’Let’s have a heart-to-heart about your pride/Even though you’re multi, I see that your soul don’t look alive/The M’s count different when Baby divides the pie, wait/Let’s examine why/Your music for the past few years been angry and full of lies/I’ll start it at the home front, “I’m On One”/Dennis Graham stay off the gram, bitch I’m on one,” Pusha starts.

Pusha went for the jugular and mentioned Drake’s father Dennis Graham and his mother, Sandi Graham, making sure to mention that his father walked out on his life just as he’s allegedly walking out or not taking care of a child he fathered with Sophie Brussaux. Even Drizzy’s producer 40 caught in a foul way.

Oh yeah, it went there.

We’re posting the song below and all of the over-the-top reactions and hot takes below and on the following pages. As Pusha T said, it’s “gonna be a surgical summer” and we doubt Drake is going to let this cook.

How To Help A Friend Going Through A Divorce

Once you hit your late twenties and early thirties, the wave of “young” divorces may start to come. People who married just out of high school or college may find their relationships coming apart at the seams — and, as friends, you’re all likely to get involved in the resulting emotional and financial rigmarole. 12 Chic Online Wedding Invites That Make the Case for Going Paperless

wedding invitations

Emily Post is probably rolling over in her grave knowing that online wedding invitations even exist, but that doesn’t mean that sending them is a faux pas. In fact, they cost less and make keeping track of RSVPs much more seamless. Wedding planning can take a lot out of even the most organized, OCD bride, and if one element of the process can be made easier, why not indulge? E-invites, though often quite garish, are becoming more and more prevalent and, thankfully, more stylish. If you know where to look, the calligraphy can be beautiful, the templates creative, and the designs made in the same sophisticated vein as the real deal. As much as Mrs. Post might have lamented it, here are 12 of the chicest online wedding invites to click on in lieu of paper.

Going Public With Your Divorce: 10 Tips From a Seasoned Divorce Attorney

So you’ve decided to get a divorce, and you now have to daunting task of actually telling people…

Or maybe you’ve been going through a divorce, and have learned a few hard lessons about what not to say about it to your friends, family, kids…

From the moment you tell the first person, the world becomes a bit of a minefield, for reasons personal and legal, when it comes to talking about your divorce during your divorce.

Here’s a list of what to say — and what NOT to say — while you’re getting divorced. This is the same advice I give my clients, taking into account how what you say out of court can affect what happens in court.

Have a Plan.
This is my life, and I live each and every day by this maxim, because it’s the key to successful divorces. Know what you’re going to do. Write it down. Put it on a timeline. Check things off as you go. In this case, the plan is about deciding who to talk to and how you’re going to do it. Seriously — don’t be too proud to write this stuff down.

Decide Who You’re Going to Tell & In What Order.
It’s important that your family doesn’t know you’ve filed for divorce before your spouse, or that your kids don’t find out from a neighbor. Starting with the people who will be most affected, plan who to tell and what language you’ll use (it obviously won’t be the same with everyone you tell).

Don’t feel the need to tell everyone, either. Stick to the people who are directly affected, and the people whose support you’re going to be calling on during the divorce.

Choose a Headline.
The obvious one — “We’re getting divorced” — isn’t going to be enough for the people who are close to the fray, like your family and close friends. They’ll want to know more, and having invested in your marriage in various ways themselves, you might feel they deserve that. Decide exactly what you’re ready to say about a) your reasons for splitting, and b) what the future will hold. Use calm rather than emotional language.

Focus On the Positive. Within Reason.
Let’s face it, this isn’t a positive situation. But if you can take a positive — or even a neutral — tone regarding what you try to say about it, you’re likely to avoid ending up in an accidental rant, or bursting into tears in public. Not that this won’t happen anyway, it probably will. But having a positive message, however forced it might seem, will actually help you feel more in control, and be more in control. Eventually you’ll probably find that that positive message is something you sincerely feel.

Stay On Message.
A PR classic, it’s important to have your neutral or positive take on things in mind, and memorized, so that you will be able to remind yourself of what to say when people ask, which they will. This helps you keep from being goaded into talking about things you’re not ready to, to have conversations with your spouse that are counterproductive, or to have a meltdown in the grocery store (see #4). Know your message and stick to it.

Be Ready For Backlash.
Some people love hearing about divorce, because it feeds the rumor mill, and they’ll (subtly) grill you for details that they’ll then go repeating. This is inevitable, and you just have to be prepared to ignore it. Other people hate hearing about divorce because it means their marriage, too, is potentially fallible. They’ll be full of disapproval. Again, just ignore it. Or, have a response on-hand for when people are less than supportive, something that puts up a boundary without causing a confrontation, like “Well, we’re really trying to keep this as a family matter, but thank you for asking” or “I appreciate your input” followed by a quick change of subject.

Don’t Post Anything on Social Media.
Anything you post on social media is effectively public, and can be used against you in court. Keep your privacy settings at maximum levels during your divorce, and you should refrain from mentioning anything related to your divorce at all — even rants, or rather, especially rants. (That’s what your divorce lawyer and therapist are for.) Here’s a useful infographic about what not to do on social media during your divorce.

Verbal, Not Written.
On that note, be aware that anything you put in writing — like a private message on social media or an email — could end up out in the public domain. In divorce proceedings, sometimes these things unfortunately come up. If it’s not something you’re okay with the judge reading, don’t put it in writing.

Don’t Talk About Your Divorce at Work.
The exception here is if you have colleagues that you’re very close to, as in best friends. Otherwise, you’ll be wise to try to keep your divorce out of the workplace. On one hand, it can come across as unprofessional or airing your personal business in public; people have surprising attitudes about divorce sometimes.

On the other, talking about it could easily make you become angry or upset at work, which is unprofessional. There’s also the fact that if you let everyone know what’s happening in your personal life, it might affect how they interpret your professional work, regardless of whether it’s affecting your work or not. To be on the safe side, you’re better off keeping it relatively quiet until the divorce is final.

Keep the Kids Out of It.
When you’re talking to friends and family, be careful who might be listening (ie. your kids–I was amazing at listening through air vents as a kid). Be especially careful when speaking about your kids directly, for example what might happen to them regarding custody; this could get back to your kids and cause a lot of anxiety.

In an age-appropriate way, discuss issues that affect your kids with them directly, and make an agreement with your spouse not to say anything negative about each other or go into details about divorce proceedings while they’re around. It’s just unnecessary negativity and pain that they don’t deserve.

Respectfully,
James J. Sexton

News in Brief: Ice Cream Truck Driver Going To Let These Kids Sweat A Little Bit Before Stopping

MILWAUKEE—Admitting that he’ll never get tired of looking in his rearview mirror and seeing their little legs going at full speed as they struggle to catch up to him, local ice cream truck driver Derek Kenney said that he once again planned on making the children on Maple Avenue sweat it out a little bit before stopping his vehicle. “Of course I’m going to park at the curb eventually, but there’s nothing quite like the look on their faces when I’ve got the music going full-blast and then just keep on driving right past them for a little bit,” said Kenney, adding that he always slows down when he approaches his young customers but then accelerates for about a hundred feet until the children’s initial expressions of excitement transition to exasperation and panic. “I have a pretty good idea of just how far I …

Thinking of Asking a Woman When She’s Going to Have Kids? Don’t.

I am a single twentysomething living and working in New York City; I like yoga, running, hanging out with friends, pursuing hobbies and binge-watching television shows on Netflix. My current lifestyle sounds like that of countless other single twentysomethings living in New York City — yet there is one thing random people seem to want to change, and they seem to ask me about it on a consistent basis. It feels like I get asked about this one aspect of my life more than any other, but maybe that’s because I’m just so tired of talking about it.

My relationship status. Specifically, when I’m going to have kids.

It would really be nice to still get questions about things besides children, family and marriage. When I say “twentysomething” and “career” in the same sentence, people often interpret that as “single” and “forever alone.”

Most of my friends, both male and female, have been asked, at some point or other during their 20s, when (not if — when) they will be getting married, having kids, settling down — and it’s awkward. It’s really awkward.

It’s also really rude.

Because the people who ask this question are not just asking me when I’m planning on having kids. They’re asking about my socioeconomic status, my love life, my job status and whether I’m responsible enough to take care of another human being — all at the same time. It may not seem like that from the outside looking in, but when trying to explain it to someone (because, yes, for whatever reason a simple one-word response will not suffice and you have to defend the fact that you don’t want kids at that moment with a long, drawn-out reply), you have to explain why you don’t want kids by elaborating on your current lifestyle.

When you reach a certain age and you are childless, people are going to assume there is something wrong with you. They aren’t going to consider that maybe you want to be single, hanging out with friends and having a good time. They don’t want to hear about how terrible dating is, how hard it is to look for a stable apartment, to advance in your career. They aren’t going to think about you pursuing your hobbies and interests and learning new languages. They are going to think about family, and they are going to wonder why you don’t have one. That’s been my experience, at least.

Having kids is a huge responsibility, and one that shouldn’t be taken lightly. It means giving up my current, relatively carefree lifestyle for something new and unknown. It means trusting someone not only with my well-being but also with the life of a child we will bring into the world. It means years of dedication, understanding and love. My body would change drastically during those nine months of pregnancy, and it’s scary.

Come to think of it, why would I want to get pregnant when I will be shamed for gaining weight because I’m, y’know, growing a child inside of me? Why would I want to explain postpartum depression to people who have no idea it even exists? Why would I rush to have a child, knowing that the only major country that offers no paid leave for new mothers is of course the one I currently live in, the United States? Why would I want to get pregnant, when there’s also a very real possibility that I might be shamed when I return to work because I will then be a mother with a kid? That is, if I can even get a job and return to work after birthing a child.

There are so many unrealistic expectations when it comes to being pregnant and having children and having the perfect baby products that it’s overwhelming.

I don’t want someone to rush how I live my life. My life is just that: mine. The men and women around you who are single? It’s their choice whether they want to hit the bars and have fun or try to settle down by finding the right person. If they want you to know about their love life (or lack thereof), they will tell you. They will tell you because they trust you and value your opinion.

If they don’t? Then, quite frankly, it’s none of your business.

Women should not be defined by their marital status and whether or not they have children. Women are told they should feel empowered and follow their dreams — but then they face insidious judgments when they don’t have kids on someone else’s schedule. Successful women who are single and happily living their lives are, for some reason, regularly forced to explain their lifestyle choice of not having children to other people.

When am I going to have kids? I don’t know.

Next question.

News in Brief: Having Awkward Conversation With Coworkers In Alternate Venue Referred To As ‘Going Out To Lunch’

COLUMBUS, OH—Engaging in stilted chitchat about their spouses, exercise routines, and weekend plans at a Buffalo Wild Wings a quarter mile from their workplace, employees from local software company Cortel Systems referred to making awkward conversation outside the normal confines of their office as “going out to lunch,” sources confirmed Thursday. “So, uh, Henry, how long does it take you to drive into work in the morning?” asked account manager Elizabeth Harris, who called the brief snippets of forced conversation interspersed with long, uncomfortable pauses that took place over a chicken BLT with a side of potato wedges instead of at the table in their office kitchen a “nice change of pace.” “25 minutes? Louis C.K. Debuts New Special Online Before Going On Hiatus

Louis C.K. announced Friday that he’ll be taking an “extended hiatus” from his much-loved series “Louie” in order to pursue other projects. But Saturday, the comic revealed a consolation prize for fans: He’s released a new special on his website called “Live at Madison Square Garden.”

Sure, it’s not all-new material. Some of the Madison Square Garden show, he explained in a letter to fans, was repeated from his last special, “Live at the Comedy Store.” BUT some of it wasn’t. So if you didn’t make it to New York City to watch any of the last three shows he did at MSG — most of you, probably — parts of it will be new to you. It costs whatever you feel like paying, anywhere from $ 1 to $ 85.

Louis C.K. continued on in his letter to let us know he’s having a good summer, and feels pretty good about the world, even though parts of it are “a huge mess.”

“I hope you’re all relatively okay or better,” he wrote. “I hope that nobody shoots anybody today. What are the odds of that? Low. But I hope it.” Same.

News in Brief: Astronomers Just Going To Go Ahead And Say Dark Matter Nitrogen

WASHINGTON—Declaring that this is the last time they ever hope to speak of the aggravatingly enigmatic substance, astronomers from NASA announced Thursday that they are just going to go ahead and say that dark matter is nitrogen. “Look, nitrogen is a pretty stable element that’s fairly inert, so we’re ready to just come out and say that’s probably what makes up about 85 percent of the matter in our universe and finally move on,” said Dr. Louis Marshall at a morning press conference, adding that, after spending millions of dollars and countless hours over the past eight decades trying to solve its mysteries, scientists are “completely fucking finished” with the astronomical phenomenon. “It’s a nice odorless gas that’s plentiful in our atmosphere and our galaxy, and that’s good enough for us. Hugo Boss Going Fur-Free

BOSS GOING FUR-FREE: After a year of negotiating with The Humane Society of the United States and The Fur Free Alliance, Hugo Boss has agreed to stop using fur as of fall 2016. FFA is a coalition of 40 animal protection organizations in 28 countries trying to end the fur trade.
In a Q&A in Boss’ 2014 Sustainability Report, Hugo Boss brand and creative director of sportswear Bernd Keller said, “[Hugo Boss has] decided to adopt a different route and we are therefore giving our sustainable corporate strategy — in this case, animal protection — precedence over the ‘fast’ and ‘simple’ route to success. We are delighted to embrace innovative challenges in relation to the planning and design of a collection.”
PJ Smith, corporate outreach manager for The Humane Society of the U.S. fur-free campaign, said, “It’s especially significant because Boss is a luxury brand, and it may have a catalytic effect with other clothing companies appealing to high-end consumers.”

41 Percent Of Americans Say They Feel ‘Frisky’ After Going For A Run

For many runners, the finish line can be found in the bedroom. According to a 2015 survey by Brooks Running Company, 41 percent of U.S. respondents experience a post-run euphoria that propels them under the covers.

The survey for the third annual Brooks Run Happy Nation Report was conducted online by Wakefield Research and queried 1,000 adult runners — those 18 and over who report running at least once a week — in the U.S., Canada and Germany. Though the sample size is small, previous research has also linked running to a satisfying sexy time. A study published in the scientific journal Plos One last month found that speedy endurance runners may enjoy better sex lives and higher sex drives.

If you’d rather go shorter distances, just bring your partner along to reap the benefits. Brooks’ 2013 report showed that 66 percent of runners believe they have more sex when they run with their partners. This isn’t all that surprising, since running releases the same brain chemicals — such as endorphins and adrenaline — that love and arousal do. Experiencing this feel-good rush next your partner will make you “associate the good vibes with your partner, which makes you want him or her even more—and vice-versa,” Women’s Health reports.

But it’s not just running that’ll put you in the mood for Marvin Gaye; enjoying any type of physical activity together can trigger vibes and let the good times roll. Better yet, physical activity can boost your self-esteem, making you feel more confident when it’s time to unlace your sneaks and slip into something a little more comfortable.

To learn more about what goes on inside the mind and body of your average runner, check out the infographic from Brooks below.

Ex-Pastor Wasn’t Going To Set Self On Fire Over Gay Marriage… Probably

Inquiring minds are wondering whether Rick Scarborough, a conservative Christian political advocate who was said to have threatened to set himself on fire if the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage, is now merely a pile of smoldering ashes.

Several outlets reported Scarborough’s supposed threat. But it turns out it was a bit of an exaggeration.

The reports come from a statement that Scarborough, a former pastor, made on the National Emergency Coalition show — a podcast linked to a right-wing group Staying True to America’s National Destiny, the Independent reported this week. Scarborough never actually mentioned lighting himself ablaze.

What Scarborough said — referring to how devoted he and his followers are to “traditional values” — was, “We are not going to bow, we are not going to bend, and if necessary we will burn” Have a listen for yourself:

While it’s tempting to imagine a man so fanatically committed to bigotry that he would take a match to himself, it’s more likely that Scarborough meant he’d burn figuratively.

The Huffington Post contacted Scarborough’s organization, Vision America, to ask about any potential plans for self-immolation in light of Friday’s Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage. We have not heard back.

Dear God, Hollywood Reporter, ‘Stromo’ Is Not Going To Be A Thing

On Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter tried to make “stromo” happen, with an article about “straight white male stars going gay (ish).” After chucking their laptops into the sea, HuffPost Entertainment editors Matthew Jacobs and Lauren Duca got new laptops so that they could discuss what this means for society.

Lauren: Hey, Matt! I just wanted to pass along a quick congrats to you and all gay men. According to The Hollywood Reporter, we are the lucky witnesses to the rise of the stromo — a(n offensive) term referring to straight actors catering to gay audiences (which sounds a lot like something a lax bro would make up in the late ’90s). Apparently, the evidence of the stromo is that the vagina-appreciating likes of Channing Tatum and Chris Hemsworth are totally cool with gay men liking them. Isn’t that great? Y’all used to be stuck with Barbara Streisand and, I don’t know, Liza Minnelli, but now it is totally fine to like straight men, too! Are you writing a thank-you note to THR as we speak or … ?

880channing

Matt: Since THR’s New York offices are in the same building as HuffPost’s, I’ve already hand-delivered flowers. I wanted to express gratitude for validating all the deep V-necks I own (thanks for making that okay, Adam Levine!) and for reminding us that Robert Pattinson could have filed a lawsuit all those times the media made him the subject of a “bromance.” THR knows those guys are the true trendsetters, paving the way for us gays to feel comfortable in our own skin.

Lauren, I’m not sure if you and I should continue debating the merits of this trend piece, if one is generous enough to give it such a label, or if we should just rank the most clueless quotes about what its sources claim as progress. (My favorite: “Straight men now want to be sex objects — and what better way to get objectified than by other penised human beings?”) In truth, the idea that straight men in Hollywood are now embracing gay audiences isn’t offensive, and there are thoughtful arguments to be made about how that’s evolved in recent years. But Nick Jonas taking his shirt off at a gay bar and James Franco being sexually fluid “up to the point of intercourse” does not give them some amalgam of hetero- and homosexuality. That’s not how that works, but I’m not sure the author of this piece understands that. Welcome to 2015, where the “stromo” is the true freedom fighter!

Lauren: “Penised human beings” is just how I refer to all men all the time anyway, so that didn’t really stand out to me. But what did is this insistence on a microscopically stereotypical understanding of gay men including, but not limited to, the phrase “butts, gym-molded or otherwise.” As if choosing to go to SoulCycle and, according to this piece, the nail salon is some metric of sexuality. There are scenes featuring Stanford Blatch in “Sex and the City” that are less mind-numbingly ignorant than that.

The idea that we would need to coin a phrase, and that that phrase would combine the words “straight” and “homo” (unless it stands for straight FOMO, which, I guess, also works?), is gross. It’s totally missing any conception of gender fluidity and assuming that being gay requires a small arsenal of V-necks. (Also, LOL, does Merle Ginsberg think it’s chill for her to write this because she was a judge on “Drag Race”?)

880nick

Matt: Right, and the only straight allies worth mentioning are white, well-sculpted men anyway. Thank goodness we have someone to highlight the bravery of pretending to be gay on a movie set for a few months or riding on a float at a pride parade or, you know, just generally being willing to associate with the LGBT population. But what about the “young” moviegoers? Channing Tatum better put in overtime on “harder workouts” to catch their attention, or I’m afraid they’ll send America right back to the ’50s with their homophobia. Praise be to straight men in Hollywood for advancing LGBT rights!

In case the Internet commenters want to attack me for implicating Chan-Man and Mr. Jonas in my vitriol, just take a step back. I’m not criticizing any of the celebrities mentioned in the article — their open-mindedness is nothing if not a step forward, even if there’s an element of slight pandering at times. But the media must be held responsible for how we see celebrities, and employing a crass portmanteau like “stromo” misplaces the progress that both Hollywood and larger society have made. Tatum does not need a round of applause for being polite to his gay fans, and we do not need trend pieces that imply there is profitability in being an LGBT ally. If that is considered progress, then it is a phony, reductive version of it. But what do I know? I’ll just keep sending photos of my chiseled eyebrows to Ryan Gosling’s fan-mail address in hopes he’ll switch teams. This article makes all my dreams seem more plausible!

Lauren: Yeah, no shade to all the beautiful, famous white men and their eight-packs mentioned here, but it’s insulting to discuss these shifting images as though they are solely geared at taking advantage of an LGBT audience for profit. As if the only reason to be an ally is limited to selling tickets specifically to those gay men that shave their chests. Acceptance is great, but what THR is describing here is more like “non-homophobic pandering.”

Maybe, if we decide not to burn this article to the ground and then scatter the ashes in the sewer, there’s a tiny nugget of something good buried under the trash attempt to make “stromo” happen? Straight cis gods like Channing Tatum definitely don’t need praise for their trailblazing “gayish” (also Ginsberg’s word) appeal, but maybe this kind of marketing, however cynical, is a sign we’re moving away from heteronormative standards.

Matt: It surely is, for better or worse, and there’s no doubt that celebrities can do wonders for steering cultural discussions in progressive directions. I want to see someone think through that transition carefully and not rely on formulaic ideas of gay men’s bodies to emphasize its relevance. Also, can we stop with the Twitter-hopeful buzzwords? The “dadbod” moment was cute, but “stromo” is a bit desperate, even before we weigh its tactfulness. The next time someone wants to discuss this, let’s remember that a cute new word does not expand the spectrum of sexual identity, just as “big-lipped” Eddie Redmayne’s willingness to play a transgender character is not a substitute for the actual advancements needed within that community. But hey, this is just a one-off article, and we can at least give it credit for attempting to celebrate the strides we’ve made. Now, off to yoga!

News: Serial Killer Admits He’s Lost Track Of Pattern He Was Going For Originally

CHESTER, OR—Saying there had to be some sort of logic to the string of grisly murders he had committed over the past seven years, local serial killer Christopher Palley admitted to reporters Friday that he had completely lost track of whatever pattern he had originally been going for.

Despite his best efforts to recall the underlying thought or theme that had been the catalyst for his murderous rampage when he took his first victim in 2008, Palley, 44, conceded that he now had “no idea” what the common thread was connecting his killings in terms of motive, choice of victim, or a larger message he wished to communicate to the world.

“I feel like I had such a crystal-clear vision of what I was trying to do when I started out, but I just can’t put my finger on it anymore,” said Palley, who even after mentally retracing …

Chris Rock’s Estranged Wife Going Full Ms. Fufu In The Divorce

You already knew that the Chris Rock/Malaak Compton divorce wasn’t going down smooth and easy, especially after 19 years of marriage.

According to the New York Post, the legendary comedian’s $ 70 million has just been put on the endangered species list.

Reports Page Six:

Malaak Compton-Rock is demanding a huge hunk of her husband’s $ 70 million fortune so she can maintain a Champagne-and-caviar lifestyle, a copy of her divorce papers reveals.

The stay-at-home mom married the ex-“Saturday Night Live” star in 1996 after they met at the Essence Awards while she was working in public relations.

She soon gave up her career and became a full-time mother, court papers say.

Compton-Rock, 46, now spends much of her time caring for the couple’s kids — Lola Simone, 13, and Zahra Savannah, 11 — in their posh home in Alpine, NJ, where their neighbors include singer Mary J. Blige and Yankee pitcher CC Sabathia.

Both parties agree their prenup has expired under a sunset clause, meaning they could face a battle over the eight-figure family bank account, a filing in Bergen County court shows.
The papers also say she and Rock, 50, have already agreed to 50-50 child custody.

Compton-Rock spends her free time on the charity circuit. She runs a group called The Angel Rock Project and in 2008 appeared as a judge on the ABC reality show “Oprah’s Big Give,” where she clinked Champagne glasses with actress Vivica A. Fox and “Sopranos” star Lorraine Bracco.

The court filings say Compton-Rock deserves a payout “commensurate with the marital standard of living” because of all her child-rearing and charitable endeavors.

Divorce can be so…depressing.

Going Off Duty and On Film with Model Alexandra Elizabeth Ljadov

Photo: Courtesy of Alexandra Elizabeth Ljadov

For someone so well-documented—walking in a little under 70 shows just in the fall 2015 season alone!—it should come as no surprise that model Alexandra Elizabeth Ljadov likes to document things herself. And her Instagram, @AlexandraElizabethLjadov, is evidence of all of the behind-the-scenes moments, backstage mayhem, and glamorous downtime the job implies. It helps that her aesthetic—a Fujifilm-camera-captured hazy nineties-supermodel vibe—is refreshing compared to the plethora of millennial-snapped and Mayfair-filtered feeds on the service. Ljadov’s virtual trove of backstage snaps ranges from new kids on the block models and friends like Molly Bair, Valery Kaufman, and Stella Lucia embracing at Chanel resort to the sunbathing Dutch duo Maartje Verhoef and Sanne Vloet, which isn’t to mention all of the other stuff that comes from being young and having lots of time in the big city. “There are so many inspiring things around New York,” says Ljadov. “You’re, like, drinking a milk shake, and if you don’t want it anymore, it’s like, ‘Let’s take a photo of it!’”

And Ljadov isn’t exaggerating—half-slurped props have made appearances in her shots. She used one along with a Loewe bag in her own take on mini editorials around the city, which she titled “Prada x Loewe” and in which Ljadov and her roommate (fellow Estonian model Harleth Kuusik) cheekily pose with everything from a dead fish to a statue of Marge from The Simpsons. No stranger to sentimentality, Ljadov even documented her first prom experience, using only images from her Fujifilm camera.

As for what’s developing beyond instant film? Ljadov is already creating and editing videos, which include short fast-motion documentaries of Fashion Week in the vein of Jonas Åkerlund’s late-nineties work (his music video for The Prodigy comes to mind). “But now I want to do a video with a storyline,” says Ljadov. But before she makes the big step into narrative, there’s always the issue of time management. Does she have the bandwidth to pursue a pair of interests at once? First thing’s first: “I did a new video of resort, but I haven’t saved it—” says the model, “there’s not enough memory. I have to take my computer the Apple Store!” Suddenly we feel like Apple’s limits are the only ones that are going to be holding Ljadov back anytime soon.

10 Things To Remember When You’re Going Through A Breakup, Because Your Brain Is Super Foggy And Now Is Not The Time To Trust Your Own Thoughts | Bustle

I’m not sure there’s a word in the English language that accurately describes the sadness after a breakup. Grief, the feeling reserved most commonly for death, is part of it. So, too, is suffering. Agony, remorse, self-doubt. Breakups are traumatic. They are, of course, heart-breaking. They will make you reevaluate everything you think you know, and force you into new thoughts and experiences that are often incredibly distressing. But there is also a silver lining in every breakup.

How Am I Going to Do This?!

How am I going to do this? It is a question I have asked myself plenty of times since my separation and divorce. Once there were two of us who could tackle a problem. Now there is only me. Sometimes I ask it as a matter of problem solving. Other times it is exasperation when the problem at hand seems larger than the means to solve it.

More often than not, it is an existential question. I ask this as I sit at the kitchen table looking at a spotty resume, no job, and limited dollars in the bank. I ask this question with hands raised in the air to some deity who has abandoned me,or at least my car, along the side of the road. I have asked myself this as I felt the weight and numbness of my right leg that signals I am having a multiple sclerosis exacerbation. I have asked myself this as I look over the 7 acres, big garden, solid but old house, one ram and one goat that remain of our flock of sheep, car with a cracked head; all at the end of a two mile dirt road. I ask this quietly to myself before I tell my sweet, sweet six year old boy that his father is moving out of the house. I ask this late at night when the prospect of being a single mother for a second time seems daunting and exhausting.

Inevitably, the question is answered. Sometimes my close friend Google is right there to help me. Google and I will meet over a cup of coffee. Google shares with me the secrets to jumping a battery. Advice that not every friend can share. Google has great crock pot recipes. Who knew the Googs was so resourceful in the kitchen? Google helps me learn about difficult personalities and how to handle them.

Other times I swallow my pride and ask for help. I reveal my lack of income to a case worker for food assistance. Steroid therapy is 5 days in a row. The out patient infusion room is not kid friendly. Good friends watch my son. Family helps with a car repair. I find that it is in the asking and receiving that I have become a better person. Grateful for my blessings I acknowledge my place in the tribe and give where and when I can; even if it is a drive-by hug of a good friend. It’s a karma thing.

Finally, the answer to “how am I going to do this,” is I am going to do it because I have to. Whatever it is. I am just going to do it. I have worked many odd jobs over the last few years that I was unsure I was capable of doing. I have hauled hay, chased cows, wiped the spit of an alpaca off my pants, tackled an exuberant farm dog in the dark, stayed up late into the evening piecing together knitted hats. I am going to solve a problem because I am the primary caregiver of my son. I gave birth to my boy. In the throws of labor I did not question how I was going to deliver the baby. I just did it.

There is an internal fortitude that we all possess. And there are moments that require we tap into it. There are times in life that are hard. But they are are not hard all the time. Each day comes and then it ends. Before you know it you are not asking yourself,” How am I going to do this?” You stand with hands on your hips like a superhero and you say, ” Look what I have done!”

According to the survey, almost a third of American respondents said they preferred jogging alongside a running buddy when it came time to train. Fitness trackers came in second at 24 percent, and Fido followed closely behind at 20 percent.

Want to learn more about what goes on inside the mind of your average runner? Check out the infographic from Brooks below.

20 Powerful Pieces Of Advice For Those Going Through A Divorce

canva

If you want solid, honest advice about the divorce process, go directly to the source. No, not your divorce attorney — divorcés themselves. Who better to counsel you through the tough, sometimes crazy-making times than someone who’s lived through all of it and come out stronger?

Below, HuffPost Divorce readers on Facebook and Twitter share the one piece of advice that meant the most to them during the divorce process.

1. “Take the high road. I took it every single time. Even when it was difficult, it was always so worth it.”

2. “Never trash talk your ex in front of the kids. You may be exes now, but your kids just see you as their parents.”

3. “Mourn. Mourn the death of your marriage like you would a loved one and mourn the husband you thought you knew.”

4. “Focus fifty percent on kids and fifty percent on yourself. Don’t forget that self-care is important, too.”

5. “Conduct yourself in a way you can be proud of later on, when the divorce is over.”

6. “Know that your decision to hang on to hurt, anger and bitterness adds no value to your life or your kids’ lives.”

7. “You need a good friend. One of my best friends told me, ‘When you feel the urge to call him, call me instead.’ She was my voice of reason during my divorce.”

8. “My attorney sent me the ‘Let it Go’ music video from ‘Frozen.’ And that’s exactly what you need to do. You need to let it go. I focused on my kids. I tried to be amicable and make sure I was honest and ignored the rumors.”

9. “Find someone that offers real, honest advice. Someone I know told me, ‘I’m sorry this happened to you. This is going to suck for a long time’ and it was refreshing to hear. It lifted a huge weight off my chest. People had been telling me things like, ‘You’ll get through this and you’re so strong!” when all I wanted to hear was the brutal honest truth.”

10. “Love your children more than you hate your ex.”

11. “Stay classy in court — and rant all about it in the company of good friends later.”

12. “Fight only for things that cannot be replaced, like the kids. The rest is just stuff, completely immaterial.”

13. “Remember that you have to live with yourself after the divorce, so take pride in what you say and do.”

14. “Know that you deserved better than what your ex gave you.”

15. “Focus on the kids. Be a guard rail they can safely bump up against when the divorce process seems like it might derail them. Be the safe spot they can run to so they don’t go over the edge.”

16. “Let go and let your lawyer do their job.”

17. “Listen to your gut. Take those baby steps toward learning to trust yourself again.

18. “Be in control of yourself and how you act during the process. Make sure you have boundaries, especially if there weren’t any in the marriage.”

19. “Don’t expect anything you didn’t receive during the marriage. If it didn’t happen then, it won’t happen during the divorce process.”

20. “Pick your battles. Some things just aren’t worth the fight.”

‘Hocus Pocus’ Stage Show Is Going To Put A Spell On You At Disney World

After 22 years, “Hocus Pocus” is getting resurrected and this time around a virgin didn’t even have to light the black flame candle to bring the Sanderson sisters back.

On Thursday, Walt Disney Parks announced that Winifred, Mary and Sarah Sanderson will return to the world of the living in the “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular.” The live stage show will run during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party held on select nights at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park in Orlando, Florida from Sept. 15 to Nov. 1.

And because Disney is suddenly bringing “Hocus Pocus” to the stage, naturally it makes us wonder if there is a sequel in store for the beloved 1993 film, which starred Bette Middler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters.

While Disney hasn’t said anything about a sequel, during a Reddit AMA last year, Middler revealed she was totally down reprise her role as Winifred and cast another spell on audiences.

“You have to go to send in your cards to the Walt Disney company,” she said. “The ball’s in their court.”

Why The Itsy Bitsy Bikini Trend Isn’t Going Anywhere Anytime Soon

Hawaii gets a lot of flak for being behind on trends, but when it comes to swimwear, the Aloha state is definitely ahead of the curve.

And we know something mainland beaches don’t: cheeky bikini bottoms are about to sweep the nation.

The Brazilian bikini bottom — the barely-there style of the ’80s — has been resurrected in new and more modest ways, and this time, bikini experts say, it’s here to stay.

“The [Brazilian bikini] trend is growing,” Debbie Wilson, owner and designer of Maui Girl Bikinis, told The Huffington Post. “I don’t see it losing popularity.”

everyone

You Can Thank/Blame Social Media

Wilson has been designing all types of bikinis for 30 years. When she first opened her boutique on Maui, Brazilian-cut and thong bikinis weren’t in much demand. Now, Wilson says, they make up 75 to 80 percent of her overall sales.

The resurgence has swept Hawaii over the past five years, and signs of it are just now beginning to pop up on the mainland. Victoria’s Secret, perhaps the most mainstream swimwear brand, has introduced an “Itsy” option as well as a “Cheeky” option, and San Lorenzo, the Hawaii-based boutique that specializes in the Brazilian-cut, has recently branched out with stores in Newport Beach and Malibu as well as a pop up shop in the Hamptons — the paragon of East Coast prep and propriety.

Those in the industry say the surge in popularity may be related to the rise of social media.

Sabra Krock, creative director for the swim boutique Everything But Water, told The Daily Beast that the recent “fitness craze” is to thank for the cheeky trend, “as well as the Instagram and selfie voyeurism that’s online,” she said.

“I definitely point to Instagram as a key reason for a desire to emulate celebrities,” she said.

Once You Try It…

The trend may have only recently reignited, but Mariella St. John, marketing director for San Lorenzo Bikinis, says that this style “is one that you can never go back on.”

Today’s line-up of Brazilian-cut bikinis offers more modest designs, making the style more accessible. While veterans and daredevils might still opt for super thin thongs or the showy v-line swimsuits of the late ’80s and ’90s, more modest options like cheeky boy shorts now exist.

These new designs, Wilson says, are “turning into g-strings again, but with more details, like a waistband, or shorts that still fit you in a way a [thong] would.”

Contrary to what you may think, Wilson explained, smaller bikini bottoms have a “slimming effect” on your rear end.

“Women are starting to realize that the [smaller cuts] are more flattering,” she said.

Finding Your Fit

When choosing the right cut, Emma Wo, fashion blogger at AlohaBabe.net and Miss Hawaii 2015, says “it’s important to find a style that works well with your body type. Brazilian-cut bikinis can seem daunting at first,” she told HuffPost, “but if you’ve got curves, full-coverage bikinis can actually make you look wider.”

“When customers, who have never worn our bikinis, come into the store, we tell them, ‘We’re going to convert you,'” St. John said. When her customers find the right fit of a cheeky bikini and then go back to a traditional cut, they often tell her that the regular bottoms feel like a “diaper.”

For comparison, here’s a traditional cut next to a Brazilian cut on the same model at a San Lorenzo boutique:

slbikini

If you’re shy about jumping in to a full Brazilian bikini, Naomi Newirth, co-designer of Acacia Swimwear, says to find somewhere in between and start there — “not full coverage and not a total Brazilian cut,” she told HuffPost, “no extra sag or fabric.”

Acacia Swimwear’s 2015 collection features cheeky bottoms that still maintain moderate coverage, like the ones featured below. Bikini model Chelsea Yamase also suggests Mikoh Bikinis, for a similar style.

If you’re still nervous about making the switch, bikini blogger Rebekah Steen of Gold Fish Kiss says, “Just give it a shot. At least once. Life’s short, try it out, and get some sun on your buns. You’ll be surprised how wearing just a little less fabric on your bum makes it look just that much better.”

Below, we’ve rounded up some of the best in-between cheeky bikinis so you can try the trend out for yourself.

Why Americans Are Going For A Second Marriage More Often

When women ask me as a 52-year-old male why I’ve never been married, it’s always insinuated that there’s something wrong with me, or I must be a swinging bachelor who just needs a good woman to show him the way.

Well, there may be plenty “wrong” with me, but that’s not why I’ve never gotten married. As for the swinging bachelor part, I do enjoy living in Las Vegas and the lifestyle I lead here, but it’s probably more like half a swing.

Instead, my career and family responsibilities are the biggest reasons why I never married. My dad died when I was 18, and my mom was the stay-at-home type who raised six kids and didn’t have a work career.

When your mom lives with you most of your life and needs to do so financially, it’s not conducive to getting married. My mom and girlfriends never mixed as it was – I can’t imagine how it would have been if I had married.

Mom’s no longer here. We just celebrated what would have been her 84th birthday on May 2. After she died in 2004, I met someone and talked marriage but couldn’t pull the trigger. By then, I’d grown accustomed to the freedom of doing what I wanted to do and also didn’t want to upend my life by moving from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. It’s hard to give up a job at my age and take a worse one with less pay, all while not knowing if a relationship will work out in a few years.

When you’ve had several friends from your childhood and college who’ve already married and divorced and don’t have any pleasant memories of the experience, it seemed like a lesson for me. I’m also at the age my dad was when he died, and I don’t want to bring kids into the world now.

That’s why a new study put out by Pew Research caught my attention. (Any study on marriage for adults over 50 gets my attention.) It shows that outside my circle of friends, in fact many people who were married before are tying the knot again. The latest numbers show that four in 10 new marriages include one partner who was married before. Drawing from the US Census, Pew says that about 42 million American adults have gone for a second marriage — or third, or fourth…

I guess someone has to pull the slack for my absence in that category. That number is up from 22 million in 1980 and has tripled since 1960 when 14 million people fit the category, according to Pew.

Since I’m (clearly) no expert on marriage and divorce, I will have to go by what the Pew researchers say. The numbers seem to be up because of the rise in divorce, which has become more socially acceptable over the decades. A lot of us as kids knew plenty of people who should have probably never stayed married but did so anyway because that’s not what people did back then.

But the other reason for more second marriages has to do with the aging of the population, which increases the number of widows and widowers, according to Pew.

And I always thought that getting married would shorten my lifespan.

Of the adults who are married currently, Pew says that about 23 percent have been married before, much higher than 13 percent of the total in 1960.

Overall, Pew talks about how marriage overall is in decline, but those who were previously married are “as willing as ever to jump back into wedlock.” I always say there are some people who aren’t happy unless they’re married, even if they were miserable and ended up getting a divorce.

Pew says about 57 percent of divorced or widowed adults are likely to remarry even though the share of adults who are getting married has fallen from 85 percent in 1960 to 70 percent in the most recent Census data. Despite that interest in marriage, there are 45 percent who say that because of their previous experience they never want to marry again.

And it’s the men who are more open to getting remarried! I guess it’s just the nature of some men to have a steady woman in their lives, and if a guy can’t cook, he wants someone who does. The study shows that 65 percent of previously married men want to remarry, but only 43 percent of women say so. That’s a big difference and likely reflects the experience those women had with their ex-husbands.

The numbers show that 64 percent of divorced or widowed men have remarried and 52 percent of women have. In 1960, some 70 percent of men and 48 percent of women who were previously married did so again.

Causing the difference in the numbers: yup, us baby boomers. There are way more adults over 50 these days.

It’s understandable to want a fulfilling relationship in one’s golden years. As people age, it’s nice to have companionship and someone to do things with and travel abroad. Finding love after 50 has also become much easier with online dating. The younger generation don’t seem to share our desire to partner up – Pew says that 50 percent of those previously married older adults had remarried, up from 34 percent in 1960. But the younger generation, between 25 and 34, aren’t getting remarried. Only 43 percent remarried compared to 75 percent in 1960.

Some of the more interesting stats of the study include the fact that 8 percent of those newly married have been married at least three or more times. And for those who are remarried, there tends to be a wider age gap compared to those in their first marriage.

Meaning: The man left for a younger woman — or she found an older husband.

So has this study changed my own viewpoint on marriage? I always tell people that the only way I would get married is looking down the barrel of a farmer’s shotgun.

Even then, I’m not sure of the decision I would make.

Jen Kirkman’s New Netflix Special Is For All Of Us Who Are Going To Die Alone

Is your personal life a bit of a shit show? So is Jen Kirkman’s.

In a trailer for her new Netflix stand-up special “I’m Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Fine)”, the comedian and “Chelsea Lately” panelist gives a brutally honest assessment of her life.

“I hate to just keep throwing it in your face how great my life is, but let’s review: 40, divorced, don’t have kids,” she says in one bit. “I know I could hit my head on the bath tub and no one will know and I’ll die — I’ll bleed out and three days later a cat will eat my face. I don’t have a cat but when a single woman dies alone a cat appears.”

It’s not the first time Kirkman has joked about being single in her 40s. On her blog, the comic — who divorced writer and director Neil Mahoney in 2011 — doled out advice on what not to say to a newly single person, including “I’m sorry.”

“It puts the stranger in the position of having to explain that they are fine and then give too much information about why they are fine,” she wrote. “Instead, just say what every friend wants to hear: ‘You look thin!'”

Check out Kirkman’s Netflix comedy special when it premieres on May 22.

Your favorite local club is going to be serving up your much-needed dosage of top 40 when you get there, so here are a few tunes for you to discover from emerging acts that will brighten your weekend up and make it that much better.

Chetti – “Honeymoon”
Listen to this when:
You’re driving to the club with your windows down.

Chetti is a singer-songwriter and actress (isn’t everyone in New York), only she’s actually got the talent to take her places. She just recently released her debut EP, In The City, and it’s really well done, especially for somebody so new to the scene. “Honeymoon” stays on trend with its throwback disco feel, keeping you listening with hook after hook. The song is really well written, and catchy as hell. It can be tough to find such well-crafted pop music in the underground, believe it or not.

Chanel West Coast – “Bad Things”
Listen to this when:
You’re feeling bad ass, which should hopefully be all weekend.

One of the most exciting female talents to emerge in the hip-hop world in some time, Chanel West Coast is well on her way to being a star. She is the rare rapper that can bounce effortlessly from an incredible flow to singing the hook on her own song. Her latest track, “Bad Things”, will make you groove and want to relax and hang out, all the while reminding you of what a bad bitch you really are.

I Am Strikes – “Love Is Just A Way To Die”
Listen to this when:
You decide not to go out, and hang out at home instead.

Certainly not a clubbing track, newcomer I Am Strikes gets introspective on “Love Is Just A Way To Die”, but don’t think that this song is a downer. While the topic may be serious (as is her title), the 21 year old creates a very listenable (not to mention enjoyable) composition, blending synthy bits with traditional percussive elements, creating her own unique take on pop music as she goes.

Nick Nikon – “Atlantis”
Listen to this when:
You’re winding down at the afterparty.

He may be just starting his career in the music world, but from the sounds of his now-streaming EP, Nikon has what it takes to be hot this very moment. He seems to have perfected the too-cool electronic R&B sound that everybody is craving right now, and the title track to his debut collection is a perfect example of what this new singer has to offer.
