Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill & Harrison Ford Reunited At The ‘Star Wars’ Comic-Con Panel

The “Star Wars” panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday brought together a handful of original cast members.

Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford joined several other actors from the franchise on stage. It marked Ford’s first public appearance since the actor was injured when his plane crash-landed in MarchFisher and Hamill had previously reunited at the “Star Wars” Celebration event earlier this year alongside former co-stars Peter Mayhew and Anthony Daniels, but it was truly a treat to see Luke and Leia with Han Solo.

And for the record, Ford says he’s feeling “fine”:

Although “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams said the new trailer won’t debut until the fall, a behind-the-scenes reel was shown during the panel. The video featured a look at “The Force Awakens” cast on set, including Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Lupita Nyong’o.

A few key details about the upcoming film also were revealed on Friday. Adam Driver, Domhall Gleeson and Gwendoline Christie all came out as members of the Dark Side during the panel. While we knew Driver will play a bad guy named Kylo Ren and Christie will play Captain Phasma, we learned that Gleeson is also an evil character. The “Ex Machina” star will play General Hux, who’s in command of Starkiller base, a new location that’s an homage to Luke Skywalker’s original last name in the “Star Wars” scripts

It was also confirmed that Simon Pegg will indeed be in “The Force Awakens.” However, we won’t see his face, since his character will be hidden in a costume.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is out on Dec. 18.

Chris Harrison Says The Audience Will Decide If There Will Ever Be A Gay ‘Bachelor’

According to Chris Harrison, it’s up to the television audiences to decide if there will ever be a gay “Bachelor.”

“That’s really who dictates where shows go on television — where we go socially [in] television, entertainment, everywhere,” the host of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” told HuffPost Live in an interview this week. “They will dictate when it’s time, if we’re ready for that, if it would be successful, if it would be a good business move — the audience always dictates where we go in reality television.”

Viewers, he added, were at the heart of all entertainment-related business ventures: “Believe me, when you stop watching a show … it’s off the air, or it will change.”

Harrison, who supports same-sex marriage, previously said he wasn’t sure if a gay “Bachelor” would be a good fit for the ABC reality series.

“Look, if you’ve been making pizzas for 12 years and you’ve made millions of dollars and everybody loves your pizzas and someone comes and says, ‘Hey, you should make hamburgers.’ Why? I have a great business model,” he told the New York Times Magazine last year. “I don’t know if hamburgers are going to sell.”

He added, “Is our job to break barriers, or is it a business? That’s not for me to answer.”

Chris Harrison Says A ‘Full Mesnick’ Breakdown Will Happen This Season On ‘The Bachelorette’

TK TK gifs

Here we go, “Bachelorette” fans. Season 11 kicks off Monday night with Part 1 of the two-part premiere, and it’s about to go down. Britt Nilsson and Kaitlyn Bristowe will duke it out for the coveted, official title of the Bachelorette as 25 men choose among them in the opening episode. (Yes, the men, once again, have the power, despite the fact that this is a female-led show.)

“Immediately, one of the girls will be going home,” host Chris Harrison told The Huffington Post in an interview Monday. “Tonight is kind of a two-pronged rose ceremony,” he continued. “Early on, I come in and say there’s a ballot box and you can choose which girl you would like … it’s traumatic. And then Tuesday, in the second part of our premiere, the tables are turned and it’s business as usual as the Bachelorette gets ready for a rose ceremony. So, we kind of have two separate cocktail parties — the first one is really more about the girls and then the next one is about the guys.”

kaitlyn britt

But Harrison is totally against the idea that ABC and the producers of the show are “pitting two women against each other,” and adamantly denies that the girls were enemies during filming.

“Obviously, ideally, this isn’t how they wanted it to go,” he said. “But life doesn’t always go as planned, and so, I love the fact that they embraced what could have been an awkward or bad situation, and made the best of it. They empowered each other instead of being divisive and catty and adversarial. Some people thought, ‘You’re pitting women against each other.’ Well, are we? Because it’s what they make of the situation, and good on them to be strong women and empower each other and take control of the situation. Yeah, one of them is not the Bachelorette right now,” Harrison continued. “Again, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just she wasn’t chosen to be that part right now. It’s not like she’s not going to date anymore … they’re both beautiful. They’ll be okay.”

So despite the fact that either Britt or Kaitlyn will get voted out by a group of handsome, somewhat fame-hungry men on the premiere episode, Harrison feels that the so-called “loser” in this situation will be just fine. Still, it’s hard to believe that whoever ends up getting sent home won’t feel subpar to the chosen Bachelorette. Let’s face facts here: One of these ladies will feel diminished, and hurt, and embarrassed, and less beautiful, etc., etc., etc. But apparently while the battle of the Bachelorettes went down on set, Britt and Kaitlyn were nothing but kind to one another. (As they should be!) They “became kind of buddies,” Harrison insisted, and would judge the guys together as they introduced themselves. “It was just these two friends going through this awkward moment,” Harrison added. “It was cute.”

Cute while it lasted, that is. According to the host, the whole exchange between the girls was edited to be more dramatic, of course. “You’ll see in the edit that it’s a little more competitive, because in editing we want to make it a little more dramatic or whatever, but it really didn’t play out that way in person. It didn’t feel that way.” Okay, gotcha.

Still, Bachelor Nation tunes in for the drama, especially when Harrison teases each season with his trademark promo line — and Season 11 of “The Bachelorette” is set to be pretty high up there on “The Most Dramatic Season Of ‘The Bachelor/Bachelorette'” lists.

“It’s pretty damn close,” Harrison told HuffPost. “If you are a student of the game, there is a full Mesnick. That’s how dramatic this season is … there is a full Mesnick.”*

*The Full Mesnick is “wailing over the railing,” according to Harrison. Exhibit A:

Why Chris Harrison Would Never Go On ‘The Bachelor’

Sorry to dash your hopes “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” fans, but host Chris Harrison has no interest in being the next “Bachelor.”

In an interview with HuffPost Live Monday, the host of the ABC reality show said it doesn’t make sense for him to follow in the footsteps of Juan Pablo, Chris Soules and all the rest.

“Here’s the thing about being ‘The Bachelor’: I believe in it and I love the show,” he said. “But I have been producing this show — hosting it and been behind the curtain — for 13 years. To come on and act like I don’t have any knowledge of how this is put together — you have to have a little sense of naiveté and innocence coming into this. I just know a little too much.”

That said, Harrison admitted he hasn’t had much luck dating since splitting from college sweetheart Gwen in 2012. He called himself “tragically undateable” given his busy schedule. (Hey, we still believe in your journey for love, Chris.)

In an interview with GQ magazine earlier this year, the 43-year-old host entertained the idea of having his ex-wife appear as the next “Bachelorette.”

“Now, there’s an idea,” Harrison said. “There’s a part of me, the producer side, that knows it would be epic television, good or bad. It could be like the Hindenburg — the greatest disaster ever — but even then that would be great TV.”

Harrison Ford Plane Crash: NTSB Releases New Details About Crash-Landing

Federal investigators revealed just how lucky actor Harrison Ford is to be alive after crash-landing his plane in southern California last week.

The National Transportation Safety Board released its preliminary report on the crash Tuesday, stating that Ford had no choice but to try and land the aircraft after it lost power. Ford’s World War II-era Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR “sustained substantial damage following a loss of engine power and subsequent forced landing after takeoff from the Santa Monica Municipal Airport.”

Shortly after takeoff, Ford reported having engine problems and requested to try and return to the airport. When he couldn’t make it back, Ford had to put the aircraft down on Venice’s Penmar Golf Course, about 800 feet southwest of the nearest runway, according to the report. The plane clipped the top of a tree just before it crash-landed.

Dr. Sanjay Khurana, who happened to be at the golf course, told reporters that the plane “dropped like a rock” onto a nearby green.

“It felt like an earthquake,” Khurana told the Los Angeles Times. He rushed to the scene and found Ford bleeding from a gash in his head.

Both Ford’s publicist and son, chef Ben Ford, later confirmed that the 72-year-old “Indiana Jones” star’s injuries weren’t life-threatening, and he was going to be “OK.”

Investigators will continue examining the 1942 vintage plane, its engine and flight controls, according to the LA Times. A final NTSB report could take up to a year to complete.

Harrison Ford Plane Crash Responded To By Golfing Doctor

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dr. Sanjay Khurana was close to finishing a golf game when a vintage plane clipped a tree and “dropped like a rock” onto the next hole’s green. He rushed to the crash, finding a pilot bleeding from a deep gash in his head.

When the surgeon got a closer look, he was stunned to see the pilot was Harrison Ford, the actor he grew up watching in the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” movie franchises. “I’m a child of the ’80s,” Khurana said Friday. “I’m a big fan.”

One of Hollywood’s pre-eminent stars, who is also an experienced pilot, crash-landed his World War II-era plane Thursday, but he was conscious and able to talk when witnesses pulled him from the wreckage.

Soon after Ford took off from Santa Monica Municipal Airport near Los Angeles, he radioed that the single engine of his 1942 Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR stopped working and he was going to make an immediate return.

Ford, who received his pilot’s license in the 1990s, glided his plane onto a fairway near the airport in what aviation experts characterized as a skillful landing given a total loss of power above a densely populated area.

Ford’s publicist, Ina Treciokas, said the actor’s injuries were “not life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery.” Ford’s son Ben tweeted Thursday from the hospital: “Dad is ok. Battered, but ok! He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man.”

No one on the ground was hurt.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators hoped to speak to Ford but had not done so as of Friday morning.

“We definitely want to know what he knows,” investigator Patrick Jones told reporters.

Safety board experts will look at the airplane’s engine, flight controls and records, Jones said. A final determination of what happened will take about a year.

What was immediately clear to fellow pilots is that Ford did a remarkable job guiding his crippled plane away from homes and, without enough altitude to reach the airport, onto the golf course’s relatively flat ground.

“I would say that this is an absolutely beautifully executed — what we would call — a forced or emergency landing,” said Christian Fry of the Santa Monica Airport Association.

The plane, which was called the PT-22 Recruit when it was used as a U.S. Army training aircraft, was intentionally designed to mimic the flight characteristics of larger warplanes, making it a tougher flying challenge, said Larry Lee, 68, of Atlanta, Georgia.

Lee lost his own PT-22 last summer when the engine failed as he was 130 feet above ground approaching a grass field.

Unlike Cessnas and other small planes, the PT-22 can roll over and plunge straight to the ground unless it is driven down and forward to keep up its speed.

Lee managed to land his plane in a soft area between pine trees although “I left my wings in the trees,” he said.

Ford, an experienced pilot, did the right thing in the emergency, Lee said.

“Keeping the plane under control…saved his life and the lives of people on the ground,” Lee said.

Ford is not the only Hollywood heavyweight at Santa Monica’s airport, which sits amid million-dollar homes near the Pacific Ocean.

A studio executive who pilots his own aircraft and said he saw Ford’s flight described the landing as remarkable.

“He made the correct turn that the plane was designed for with an engine out,” Relativity Media CEO Ryan Kavanaugh told The Hollywood Reporter. “Ninety-nine percent of pilots would have turned around to go back to the runway and would have crashed.”

The fact that a spinal surgeon was playing a round of golf after a morning operation gave the crash-landing its own movie-like quality.

Khurana didn’t realize the actor who played Han Solo and Indiana Jones was at the plane’s controls until Ford lay about 10 yards from the plane. Fellow golfers who rushed to the pilot’s aid helped remove him from the open cockpit, fearing leaking fuel might ignite.

After hitting a tree, the plane “kind of spun a little bit and belly-flopped” with such force it felt like a small earthquake, Khurana said. He estimated it fell “like a rock” about 100 feet.

After dropping his clubs and rushing about 50 yards to the plane, Khurana found a bloodied pilot groaning, complaining of pain below his waist and “trying to get a sense of where he was and what had happened.”

It took several golfers to hoist Ford away from the wreckage, Khurana said.

“My initial fear was this was going to be one of those very serious, very tragic injuries right away. Fortunately, he was remarkably intact,” Khurana said.

As the doctor checked Ford’s breathing, circulation and other vitals, Khurana’s optimism grew. Then he realized he was treating the man who brought to life heroic characters of his youth.

It didn’t take long for paramedics to arrive and for Khurana to reflect on what had happened.

“I don’t think I would have ever imagined waking up that morning, that after an early day of surgery, I’d see an airplane crash,” he said. “It’s a very odd scenario. But I’m glad I could have been of help.”
