Whether you choose to call it “athleisure” or athletic wear, there’s no disputing that hoodies, run pants and shorts are wardrobe staples. Hill City aims to blaze its own path through the segment with an awesome line of versatile tech-wear designed for today’s active man. They’re stylish and comfortable clothes that blur the line between work wear, leisure wear, and sportswear.
“Men’s lives are evolving,” said Noah Palmer, former MLS player and General Manager of Hill City. “We no longer want to dress as either an ‘athlete’ or ‘outdoorsman’ or a ‘businessman’—we are all of those… We don’t want a different look for each aspect of our lives.”
With the unpredictable weather and challenging topography of San Francisco providing a fine testing ground—and a namesake—Hill City’s design team found ways to imbue the technical components of performance clothing into fashionable, comfortable essentials. The line fuses a clean aesthetic with technical innovations that are felt and experienced rather than seen. This approach allows men to purchase fewer, more versatile pieces.
What’s in Hill City?
Hill City launched late last year and is clearly poised to fall in line with popular athleisure brands such as Lululemon and Rhone. Water- and wrinkle-repellent workout shorts and moisture-wicking tee shirts are great for gym, trail, or street. And everyday options like slim fit pants (made with water-repellent fabric), thermal shirt jackets, and sweatshirts are made to go from beach to boardroom without fuss. The styles are clean and minimal, focusing mostly on neutral colors with the occasional pop of white, rust, or red.
Moisture-wicking fabrics, stretch components, subtle (or even hidden) zip pockets, and neutral colors and earth tones make up a stylish and simple but versatile and high-tech line of active gear, marked by sustainable materials and a ton of real-world R&D.
Hill City is a high-performance men’s apparel brand offering technical clothing that transitions seamlessly through the day, from workout to work to weekend. Sign up today for the Hill City newsletter and get $ 20 off your first purchase.

A hero's journey starts with a single step—but what if that step rested on a broken foundation? When all you know about your world crumbles into ashes. When truth rests on a broken foundation. When what you believe to be true lies on a broken foundation. A book, a broken faith, a promise of hope. Never open a book without knowing what lies between its covers. When what you knew to be truth crumbles in the face of reality. When your heritage leads you to doubt all you've known. Diondray's Discovery is an adventure fantasy novel that will transport you to the world of Kammbia, an imaginative and colorful world in which Diondray discovers his inner hero. If you can't get enough of rich new worlds, breathtaking adventure, introspective characters, and subtle social commentary, then you're ready to ride along with Diondray as he discovers his destiny. "to describe novelist Marion Hill's first novel in a superlative, the word ambitious strikes the first and last chord. Not satisfied with simply telling a story, he creates his own world and language, and this boldness and audacity often hit the mark. His idealistic surrogate, Diondray Azur, is on a quest; not of his own choosing but his skepticism and curiosity lead him on a path to his destiny – to ultimately unite a people. Hill is at once an artist, employing a broad lexicon to include words such as themily, and a land where his characters commit acts of passha for which one might ask forgiveness, but it is not forgiveness one necessarily craves or is granted. He paints lush landscapes and had one not been familiar with Wakanda, at the very least, Hill is prescient. Moreover, Tolkien's Lord of the Rings comes to mind in this other world Hill has created, his own Middle Earth with less pretense."–Carey, Goodreads reviewer

If this surprises you, you haven’t been paying attention. Lauryn Hill was epically late to a couple of shows in Europe, outraging fans and leading her to apologize.
Ms. Hill is currently on the European leg of her 20th Anniversary of the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill tour. Fans in Brussels and Paris fell for the jig this past week with Hill reportedly starting her sets over an hour later, which cause short performances due to sharp time constraints of the venues.
On Tuesday (Nov. 20) in Paris, France she was over two hours late, leading fans to boo and just a 30-minute set. A couple of days prior in Brussels, Belgium, fans only got 40 minutes after she was a little early—just 1 hour and 40 minutes late.
“We apologize for the late start. We’re working through the kinks of moving the production to Europe, with time changes and curfew restrictions, we’ve had a few challenges in these early shows,” wrote Hill in a mea culpa she shared on Twitter. “With deep gratitude, I come on stage to perform an album that means so much to so many.”

TMZ spotted Hill at LAX and asked her about the situation. After saying she was grateful for and humbled by the support of her supporters, she gave a very diplomatic answer.
“Me and ESPN are fine. We’re in a good place and I’m happy to be back at the network,” said Hill, who said she’ll be back Monday (Oct. 23).
She added, “So, here’s how this works—it doesn’t really matter what I think…. It matters to people, but here’s the reality—ESPN acted [how] they felt was right, and, you know, I don’t have any argument or quibble with that. I would tell people, absolutely, after my Donald Trump tweets, I deserved that suspension. I deserved it. Like, absolutely. I violated the policy; I deserved that suspension. Going forward we’ll be in a good healthy place, it’ll be fine. I’m looking forward to it.”
Although Hill regrets putting ESPN, and her co-workers on the show, in a bad spot—she does not take back anything she said.

Jemele Hill called Donald Trump a White Supremacist on Twitter, which led to a suspect reprimand from her bosses at ESPN. On Wednesday (Sept. 13), White House press flunkie Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that the renowned sports analyst should be fired for, ya know, sharing her factually based opinion.
Before we get to it, let’s mention that Donald Trump still thinks the Central Park 5, who are Black men, are guilty of raping a white woman despite DNA evidence exonerating them. Trump was sued by the feds, twice, for housing discrimination after investigators found he refused to rent apartments to African-Americans. Most recently, he initially failed to admonish Neo-Nazis after their violent protest in Charlottesville, noting that people on “both sides” were at fault.
So when Hill went on a Twitter rant where she called Trump a white supremacist, she had plenty of receipts.
Yet and still, Huckabee said calling Trump a white supremacist is “outrageous.” Would White Supremacist-friendly been a more palatable description for the White House squatters?
Now, ESPN finds itself on shaky ground. Besides disrespect Carmelo Anthony, they are showing disregard for their numerous viewers of color who are anything but Team Donald Trump. Considering there are plenty of people boycotting the NFL due to Colin Kaepernick’s continued unemployment, the masses have had enough of the “subtle racism” jig.
So far, the NABJ has shown more backbone than ESPN.
No, it’s not the mid-90s and that headline is very much correct. The Fugees are back, this after Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex debuted a record featuring all three of the band members.
The record aired live Saturday evneing (July 15) and it sounds like they’re coming to show why they had big respect from MCs and fans alike with their 1996 classic album, The Score. Lauryn Hill opens up the song with lines that show why her pen remains one of the strongest ever.
“This is some dead right sh*t/Sometimes we fight sh*t/Some make up and write sh*t, spark and ignite sh*t,” Hill spits, surely referencing the crew’s public beef and feuds although they’ve worked together since their sophomore and final album.
Pras takes over the second verse, using part of the same pattern Hill used but went into his own style while flexing the strength his pockets a bit. Wyclef Jean anchors the verse with some tough bars and Hill returns to show off a bit of vocalization at the end just as she did between the other verses.
As of now, the title of the song is unknown nor is there any true announcement of a reunion for the New Jersey trio. For what it’s worth, the new track sounds fresh for 2017.
For what it’s worth, the new track sounds fresh and every MC on the track came with the hunger.

UPDATE: Ms. Lauryn Hill came through and crushed the buildings. The artist shared in a tweet that the song is not new.

It’s hard to believe that Lauryn Hill’s groundbreaking, hip hop-soul album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” was released 17 years ago! Ms. Hill turned 40 today – happy birthday genius! I write this, reflecting on her musical offering “The Miseducation” which cemented her as one of hip hop and soul music’s most prolific artists. She became a leader in the music industry as a woman who took the helm of her career and created a masterpiece – her way! This essay pays tribute to Ms. Hill and how her award-winning album, changed my life.
“The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” album was released in August of 1998. I had turned 23 in early August of 1998. I was in the midst of a deep depression and it seemed nothing could bring me out of it. The previous years had been a whirlwind: I graduated from college, I moved back to St. Louis and got a job. I entered a graduate degree program, had a relationship, took yoga, tai chi and African dance class each week and still managed to spend time with my family. I had so much on my plate, I barely left any quiet time for myself and I never took a “break” as some young people do right before or immediately after college. I was burning myself out already. I previously had my own apartment, but had now chose to move back in with my mother to save money. I had also just ended my relationship and was in quite a funk about it. My daily schedule consisted of going to work, attending graduate classes at night and then coming home to hibernate. I still did yoga, went for bike rides and walked in the parks for exercise, but I did it alone. I had become joyless. I no longer wanted anyone else’s company because I didn’t feel like talking about what happened with my relationship or any other changes going on in my life. My mother tried to cheer me up, but I generally kept to myself. Her hugs and periodic talks with me, gave me some comfort but I was still in a dark place. I didn’t want to be in St. Louis anymore. I felt like there wasn’t a soul in my hometown who I could relate to or connect with. Many of my close friends were back East, where I attended college in the DMV area. It was at this time, in 1998, that I felt I was the sister from another planet. All I cared about was saving money, keeping my strict vegan diet, praying and getting to where I needed to be. But I didn’t really know where I needed to be and I was frustrated.
I watched the Oprah Show when I could in the afternoons, trying to glean pearls of wisdom and inspiration from Oprah and her guests to make myself feel better. I started taking a B-stress complex vitamin and it helped my depression lift. I began to read books by Deepak Chopra and Louise Hay which helped me create affirmations and use aromatherapy oils to help me sleep at night. I started painting and making my own stationary. I started making collages that I later realized were vision boards – using words and images of where I wanted my life to be. I was trying to pull myself out of the depression, but it was tough. I felt like a failure because I had to give up my apartment and move back home. I also felt like a failure because a relationship with someone I cared about had ended. For the first time in my young life, I had hit a sort of rock bottom where I questioned, “Who am I?” and “Why am I so unhappy?”
I was in graduate school and planning to transfer to a University out of state, I just didn’t know where yet. Constantly going in circles about whether I would leave St. Louis and what my next move might be, I was plagued by constant worry. My mother came to me with an idea after seeing me mope around the house for far too long. I was low on money so I couldn’t buy any new music for myself, something that I really loved and my mother knew it. One evening, she said “Let’s get out of the house.” We drove to a local record store to browse. She told me, “Look around and pick out any CD you want – my treat.” I was very excited to say the least. I was a big fan of The Fugees when they first came out and I had seen them in concert. Lauryn’s voice was so powerful as a female emcee. The fact that she was an artist from New Jersey, who held her own with male hip hop artists, much like Queen Latifah or MC Lyte, really impressed me. Her solo CD had just come out and I immediately chose it out of a stack of CDs while my mother and I browsed.
That night I went home, I put Lauryn’s CD on repeat. I remember hearing on radio when Lauryn became pregnant. It was such a shock to some media, DJs and fans who assumed Lauryn was a “good girl” who would never get pregnant out of wedlock. People were so judgmental about Lauryn’s personal life and it was ridiculous – forgetting that she was human. And this is what was revealed to me while listening to “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” Lauryn was human, a young woman who had experienced life’s ups and downs despite her beauty, intelligence, fame and talent. If Lauryn could come through some dark days in her young life, why couldn’t I?
I had been writing poetry for a few years, but I rarely shared it with anyone. When I started listening to Hill’s solo album, her words, the music and the spirit behind the album gave me the energy to write more. Lauryn sang and rapped about women’s self-esteem, self-worth, being heartbroken, the love of her life – her son, the community and finding her true self. I could relate to all of this times 10! I may not have had a child, but I understood heartbreak, desiring to know your purpose and holding on to your self- esteem and self-value as a woman, at all costs. I put Lauryn Hill’s album on repeat while studying, writing and even while sleeping. Her words of love, empowerment, advice to women “don’t be a hard rock when you really are a gem,” and tales of healing from heartbreak soothed me. I was inspired that Lauryn took the helm of her career by creating this album, and that it seemed her best work was indeed created after her own experiences of personal turmoil and pain. I realized that this is something I needed to do: take control of my life, stop wallowing in my pain, become the woman I had been envisioning and embrace the artist’s path so I could share my creativity with the world. My mother and I heard that members of The Last Poets were going to be in town at a venue so we went to see them. I later found out that the venue was run by Dahveed Nelson, a legendary poet and founding member of The Last Poets. I read my poetry at this venue in St. Louis and it was an amazing experience.
Listening to Lauryn’s album, watching her throughout the year grace magazine covers and receive awards for her album, gave me the courage to pursue an artist’s life. Within a month of listening to Hill’s album, I decided to move back to the East Coast where I was born. It took me nine months to save money and plan, but with my mind made up, I drove out to the East Coast from St. Louis and I didn’t look back. I moved to my birthplace of Brooklyn and became a member of the writing and performance arts community in New York City. I began to submit my poetry to magazines and journals, and read my poetry at various venues. When I looked at Lauryn Hill, a talented, beautiful woman who had scars from relationships and the pressures of the societal expectations of women, I saw myself and the trials I had overcome. Through Lauryn, I learned that “good girls” make mistakes too, and that no genuine artist creates without first experiencing some level of pain. I was able to take my pain and transform it into art as a part of my life purpose, something that I still do. Thank you Lauryn Hill for reminding us all that you are “only human” and that our humanity and purpose is what connects us all.

SCOTTISH DAILY RECORD Melissa Hill’s latest read is a fantastic holiday page-turner. OK MAGAZINE.
Background: I tried hiking to the top of this hill in mid 2014. Halfway up I was exhausted and defeated. My younger, better-looking hiking partner was not impressed. She could have sprinted to the summit while texting at the same time. With my manhood in tatters, I slunk down the hill. But I vowed to someday come back and beat Flag Hill. Now it was personal.
A few months later I tried Flag Hill again but my timing was bad. The bridge to the trail was under construction. So I aborted.
Last week, with my brother Dave in town, I decided to take a third attempt at Flag Hill. I had been focusing my recent workouts on cardio and lower-body strength. It was time to see if the preparation made a difference.
Here’s a 22-secondvideoof my training progress on a different hill.
This is the parking lot at the base of Flag Hill and other trails. My brother is the prime photographer for the day. He’s the tiny pink blob. Above him and to the left is the peak to which we are heading on foot from here.
The bridge has been repaired since my last failed attempt. So far, so good.
They still have this warning sign that mother nature intends to kill me one way or another before I leave Flag Hill. But I wasn’t going to let a rattlesnake bite or a rabid mountain lion slow me down. Today was my day.
It appears there are over seven hundred ways to get lost on these trails. And no phone service. Eek.
Starts out easy. But this is a fake-out.
Okay, getting steep now. The trip to the summit is only 1.3 miles but because of the grade we will need to take lots of rest breaks that we will call photo opportunities.
The rolling foothills are easy. The hard part is in the distance.
Wow, did we pick a good day. (Apologies to all you folks in snow.) February is rarely this warm in Northern California, and you don’t get many days of green grass. This will be mostly brown in a few months. The area had been fogged-in and cold just an hour before this picture.
This is the view looking down toward where we started.
Still looking down the hill.
Now straight ahead to Flag Hill (below) in the distance.
The trails are so beautiful you think you are in some sort of fantasy world.
Even the trees look other-worldly today.
This rock, below, is at about the halfway point. The first time I hiked this far I was exhausted and had to turn back. This time I had specifically trained for hills, and we paced it better. Apparently the preparation worked because I wasn’t tired at this point.
Some of the trails are what I imagine I would find on a Peruvian mountain.
There it is.
This is the hard part.
Phew! The steepest part is over. But not done yet.
A few minutes later a very good day became a spectacular one.
Flag Hill, I own you now, buddy. But the rest of you are welcome to visit 🙂
In the end it wasn’t terrifically challenging because I was better prepared this time and we paced things well. But it sure felt good to finish.
Some of you will be quick to point out that my quest to climb Flag Hill looks a lot like a goal, and I am the guy who wrote a book saying goals are for losers; systems are better. Allow me to explain.
Goals make sense for simple, near-term objectives, such as hiking a particular hill. But for complicated and unpredictable situations, such as the arc of your professional career over decades, a system is better, in part because you are unlikely to keep the same priorities and goals over that period. When the environment changes, as it always does, you will change too. A better strategy for the long run is to improve your market value in a variety of ways and hope luck doesn’t ignore you forever.
My goal of hiking Flag Hill to the top bothered me every day from the moment I set it. It made me feel like a loser for months. That’s why I normally avoid goals. But this one came to me organically when I failed in front of someone I cared about. That made it personal. I had to check it off the list to feel right.
I get that way sometimes.
Luckily I also have a system that involves daily exercise and adding variety to the mix when I can. So in this case my somewhat toxic goal of climbing Flag Hill was a convenient focus for my exercise system, and in that sense it worked.
I am not eager to set another goal for myself. But I sure am glad this one worked out.

The House GOP majority today announced it will fund a time machine that will return the economy to the fall of 2008.
House Science & Technology Committee Lamar Smith (R-TX) said, “Instead of wasting time whipping votes on the Floor to deregulate big banks, we can press a button that whisks us right back to the Bush administration!”
The decision was made in the first week of the new Congress, when the GOP struggled to pass legislation to roll back the Dodd-Frank Act. That law, passed in 2010, imposed new restrictions on the financial institutions that pulled the world economy into the worst recession in history due to highly-risky investment decisions.
Republican Arvin Fump defended those practices as “proven job creators.” The Michigan Republican said, “Do you know how many people were hired to put foreclosure signs in front yards across America?”
At a press conference announcing the “A Better Past For Certain People Time Machine Research & Development Act of 2015,” Republicans waxed nostalgically about that October day when they defeated the Troubled Assets Relief Act and the Dow plunged 750 points.
President Obama threatened to veto the funding, saying, “If a time machine is going to take us anywhere, it should be the day that Al Gore invented the Internet. There were some design flaws that could have been addressed.”
The time tunnel will be paid for by eliminating funding for research of Alzheimer’s disease and cancer at the National Institutes of Health. A spokesman for Speaker John Boehner noted: “We believe in balanced budgets and no free rides. Someone has to pay to return to the days of predatory lending, collateral debt obligations, and derivatives.
In a joint statement, Donna and Bill Everett of Loomsville, Indiana, praised the move:
“In 2008, we lost our 401ks and all the equity in our home. Our kids can’t go to college, and our paychecks will never regain their strength. We now both work part time at the Sushi Corral. But we need to continue opposing tax and spend Democrats. And if that means going back to the days when big banks could completely screw us over, so be it!”
One Republican aide noted: “Forget ‘Throwback Thursday.’ With this time machine we’ll do ‘Rollbacks Every Day!'” Comedy – The Huffington Post
