Twitter Isn’t Here For Justin Timberlake Breaking His Word On Prince

Pepsi Super Bowl LII Halftime Show

Source: Patrick Smith / Getty

The rumors were flying high that Justin Timberlake‘s Super Bowl LII Halftime Show would feature a likeness of Prince in hologram form, something the late singer was staunchly against. Although Prince collaborator Shelia E. said that the hologram performance wouldn’t go down, JT pulled a similar stunt with a superimposed image and Twitter isn’t having it.

During Timberlake’s set, a tribute to Prince was lavishly set up as a duet of sorts. Singing Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U,” Timberlake sat at a piano as an image of the late singer against a purple backdrop played. There was also a classy touch when the entire stadium was awash with purple light honoring Prince.

While the tribute would have made sense considering the Super Bowl was played in Minnesota, Prince specifically didn’t want his image used in that way nor did he particularly care for people covering his songs according to fans. The reaction on social media was largely negative towards Timberlake for the gesture, although some fans did enjoy the moment for what it was.

We’ve collected some of the responses from Twitter regarding Justin Timberlake’s Prince tribute during his Super Bowl halftime set below and on the following pages.

The Problem With Television Isn’t the LBT, It’s the G.

When Russell T. Davies’ Queer as Folk launched itself onto UK television screens, it inspired me to tell stories. Following the UK show, the stateside equivalent found its own voice, an audience and went on to explore and develop the gay community — working hard to tackle topical issues and push boundaries.

Then, there seemed to be nothing.

Two years ago, HBO commissioned Looking — billed as a “Gay Girls,” the short-lived drama dared to be different. Unfortunately, it was cancelled, but not before causing an extremely heated debate. I spent many hours reading all of the reasons why it fell short and ultimately was taken off the air. The only thing that keeps coming up (apart from ratings) is that it wasn’t supported by the gay community as much as it could have been.

Over the last couple of years we have seen a beautiful influx in LBT television and drama — something that makes me overjoyed. Now, Orange is the New Black, tackles lesbian, bisexual and transgender themes in abundance and the reaction couldn’t be any further from the opposite. Transparent has done the same — but this leads me to the question: Why? Do these shows not portray multitudes of diversity within their own niche community? Are these representations not always positive? Do they have a broader crossover potential into “straight culture?” Or is it simple: the lesbian, transgender and bisexual characters have the support of their target viewing audiences, but when the gay male community are given their own, they spend a lot of their time dragging their heels. So to speak.

I am not saying that LBT’s are all happy with the way they have been represented within television shows of late, merely that the support of these kinds of diversity has been overwhelming positively, and the gay male community should be doing the same.

Andrew Haigh, creator of Looking, said that one of the reasons he believed it wasn’t as successful as it could have been was down to the fact that gay men want to be represented — but only in a good light. But this leads me to another critical question: Why?

Queer as Folk didn’t shine a great light on our community at all times. Yes, it diversified in the way the stories were told — but didn’t Looking do the same? It seems more possible that as a gay male community we feel we have come a lot further than what Looking had to offer — but the reactions to the show lead me to believe that we really haven’t at all.

I watched both seasons of Looking and read many pieces on it during and after. I didn’t feel I was “one specific character,” but I was more of an amalgamation of multiples. I also see that it had flaws — like many other shows out there. But the flaws on those shows, which represent LBT culture, caused no size of uproar as much as Looking did.

I’m going to be bold and say that it wasn’t the Looking creators who went wrong, but the gay male viewing audience who tied it to a cross and let it burn. However, unbeknown to us at the time of burning, we actually created a bigger problem: Gaining further representation on television and in film.

Recently, I have been going through multiple creative processes and forms of storytelling around gay and straight characters. However, my concern is that in writing these stories and creating these gay men, I will eventually reach more impenetrable roadblocks like the ones I have already met. Could this be because of the unspoken “caution” on gay male characters that the community has essentially placed on itself?

Due to gay male character ensemble shows off-screen not gaining support, we are now in a position where it is difficult to gain it on screen. It wasn’t the creators of Looking who failed us — we failed them, and in turn we closed the door for widespread representation in our own faces. Now, we may have a long time to wait until one brave broadcaster is willing to open it again and take that “risk.”

We can’t cry out for representation and then spit on it when it arrives. We can’t lap up other shows dealing with our cohort’s problems and lives and stamp on our own because we feel like we’ve been given the short straw. We can’t decry characters that trade off sex for information, or hurt others, or don’t fully show who we as individuals are. That mentality in itself — from the gay male viewing audience — is not helping the fight for gay male rights.

My experience as a gay man is in no way the same as someone else’s. Sometimes, I am not a good person. But that’s not because I am gay. It’s because I am human and we all make mistakes no matter who we wake up next to in the morning. For me, any gay character on screen whether I relate directly or not is just as important as the last. Instead of rallying when it’s too late — we should be more active as a gay male community in the entertainment business, but also in support of other gay males who dare to be different and take a stand in showing off our wonderfully unique opinions, characters and world.

I don’t want myself or fellow writers to be limited in terms of who we choose to write. I have a voice, and like countless more I intend to use it. I will continue to write all forms of gay men — because I believe that’s how we should be seen. I will never make any apologies for doing so.

I’m a gay man and I want to see it. Any form of representation, beats absolutely none at all.

This Is What An Emotional Affair Is — And What It Isn’t

It’s a scenario that happens all the time: You’ve met a new friend or co-worker and you instantly feel a connection. The two of you just click and soon, the text messages are flowing freely. You’re cracking inside jokes, you’re very subtly flirting and you’re thinking about him or her all the time.

It sounds like the start of a very promising new romantic relationship. The only problem? You’re already in a relationship — and it may instead be the start of an emotional affair.

What’s that, you ask? Below, relationship experts offer an explainer on emotional infidelity: what it is, what it isn’t and what to do if you have a sneaking suspension you’re having an emotional affair.

In a nutshell, what is an emotional affair? How is it any different than a close, platonic friendship?

An emotional affair is essentially an affair of the heart, said Sheri Meyers, a marriage therapist and the author of Chatting or Cheating: How to Detect Infidelity, Rebuild Love and Affair-Proof Your Relationship.

Unlike a platonic friendship, there’s sexual chemistry between the two of you — and there’s definitely some fantasies playing out in your head, she said. You may even share unflattering details about your relationship with this new person — and naturally, you don’t say a word about any of this to your S.O.

“All of this drains energy from your primary relationship,” Meyers said. “If you’re fantasizing, having intimate talks and sharing things you should only be sharing with your primary partner or sending late night ‘just thinking of you’ flirty texts, you’re not just having an innocent friendship.”

Eventually you may become more deeply invested in imagining what could be with this person, said David Wygant, a dating and relationship coach

“Even though you’re not sleeping with him or her, there’s flirting and definitely something going on,” he said. “You’re reaching out to this person because you really need to feel connected.”

At some point, your actual partner can’t possibly compare with the other man or woman in your life, said Gal Szekely, the founder of the Couples Center for therapy in Northern California.

“In many cases you begin to have a bias and start seeing this other person in a good light your partner in a negative light, even becoming annoyed or frustrated with them,” he explained.

So by that definition, I’m not having an emotional affair if we’re just friends, right?

Of course it’s OK to maintain some privacy and forge new friendships while in a relationship. You just want to establish boundaries and maintain transparency with your partner, Szekely said.

“Your partner should be aware that these conversations are happening and you both need to be clear about what the boundaries and limits are of that new relationship,” he said.

Meyers agreed. “Just be sure you’re not taking attention away from the closeness you should be nurturing at home.”

And ultimately, you should be able to tell if your behavior is veering on the shady side, Wygant said.

“The bottom line is, we all know the difference between a friend and somebody we crave,” he said. “There is no borderline.”

OK, got it. But now I think I might be having an emotional affair.  Help!

If you recognize yourself in the descriptions above, the good news is you haven’t taken the relationship to a physical level yet. You can press pause on your budding quasi-relationship, disengage and work on your actual relationship, said Meyers.

“Having any sort of affair is usually a symptom of an underlying problem in your life and in your relationship,” she said. “Something is missing that makes you vulnerable to temptation.”

Only after you address the weaknesses in your relationship “can you bring stable footing to your relationship and start infusing it with the love, attention, appreciation, and affection you and your partner both deserve,” Meyers said.

And if you’re not willing to fix what’s wrong in your existing problems, maybe it’s time to reevaluate your relationship status, said Wygant.

“Be honest with yourself,” he said. “Are you satisfied in the relationship and if not, are you able to communicate with your partner about why you aren’t? Ask yourself: Am I willing to work on the relationship — or am I just going to have a series of emotional affairs until I finally end the relationship?”

How Sex Isn’t The Only Form of Infidelity in Relationships These Days

It’s 5:30 am, and your alarm goes off. You open your eyes, and your mind starts racing. Meetings, conference calls and project deadlines all loom.

Why is there always so much to do and never enough time to get it done?

You grab your phone and scroll through your notifications as you walk into the shower, half awake.

Knowing she’s not up, you send her a text message: “Good morning, baby. I hope you have a wonderful day.”

This text serves as two reminders: You want her to know she’s the first thing on your mind. And, more importantly, she needs to realize that, regardless of how stressful or busy your days are, she’s the priority.

It sounds so perfect, but that’s not reality.

Instead, you’ll log into Instagram or Facebook, nosing into everyone else’s life, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll send that text to your woman on the way to work.

Relationships these days lack direction. People “date,” but what the hell does that even mean anymore? Is it hanging out twice a month? Texting all day? Kissing here and there?

Something is missing. What’s causing relationships to falter at the rate they are?

Relationships thrive on communication. Our most intimate emotions are reserved for the person we love, so how is it acceptable to never show them?

We’ve accepted so many unacceptable things: sitting at the dinner table with our phones out, arguing over text, publishing every minute of our lives on social media.

Do you know what trumps all that? That society has accepted relationships in which we are being cheated on every day.

When you think of cheating in the traditional sense, having sex with another person comes to mind.

It’s an intimate situation in which the person you love is connecting with another while you are going about your life, loving and caring for said person.

Once you find out, all trust is lost. But think about the concept for a minute.

Webster’s Dictionary defines cheating as the deprivation of “something valuable by the use of deceit or fraud.”

Sure, sex is cheating and may be the most hurtful case, but have you ever stopped to think you’re being cheated out of your relationship every day?

We experience a lack of communication, attention, passion, intimacy and even lack of love. Why are we okay with this and all the communication shortcuts that have become so common?

This type of cheating causes much more damage than that of any sexual affair.

You’ve given your heart to someone and love him or her with every bone in your body, but you have to beg for his or her attention.

You sit back and watch this person post status updates about useless things, or post pictures just so people can comment.

You need to take a minute to tell her she’s beautiful. Call her after work to say, “Get dressed in 30 minutes. I’m picking you up and taking you somewhere special.”

Make an effort. Old-fashioned love needs to make another round.

The days of holding hands, opening the car door, taking her out “just because,” sending her flowers just to get a smile and leaving her notes on her car should never be gone.

We have to be children when it comes to love.

We have to be vulnerable and free. That can’t happen when we’re preoccupied with the details of everyone else’s lives.

Focus on each other. When it’s all said and done, that’s all you really have.

Appreciate her, and show her how much she means to you. But, most importantly, put your phone down, and dial into what’s in front of you.

Donald Trump: Bill Clinton Isn’t ‘Happy That I’m Running’

Real estate mogul Donald Trump on Thursday commented on a phone call that took place between himself and former President Bill Clinton earlier this year.

“Yeah, he called me,” Trump told reporters after the first GOP presidential debate in Cleveland. “He’s not happy that I’m running, I can tell you right now, because he thinks I’m the worst nightmare for Hillary.”

The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that the two spoke over the phone in a private conversation, but that the election had not come up. Clinton reportedly “encouraged Trump’s efforts to play a larger role in the Republican Party.”

Trump didn’t mince words about Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, however.

“I would say this, nobody has spoken up this strongly of Hillary as I have,” he said. “She should literally — this is a criminal act that she has done, and all you have to do is ask General [David] Petraeus because you look at what happened to him, and that’s peanuts compared to what Hillary did. Look, he understands that I’m Hillary’s worst nightmare. He gets it.”

News in Brief: Trump Delivers Anecdote About Small Business Owner Who Isn’t Half The Man He Is

CLEVELAND—Noting that there are millions of entrepreneurs throughout the country who are in the same difficult position, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump responded to a question about the economy at Thursday night’s primary debate by sharing an anecdote about meeting a struggling small business owner who isn’t half the man he is. “Last month, I was speaking with John Perkins, a good, hardworking fellow who runs his own grocery store in Waterloo, Iowa, and who, like so many others out there, is a pathetic, small-time loser without a single shred of my business skills,” said Trump, who explained that Perkins’ recent struggles to keep his business afloat are a direct result of his incompetence and total lack of qualifications for the job, adding that Perkins’ “embarrassing rinky-dink operation is peanuts” compared to The Trump Organization. “This bozo has no idea what he’s doing. When Being Childfree Isn’t A Choice

The choice to be childfree can be truly gratifying, but what happens when being childfree isn’t a choice? BuzzFeed spoke to three women to find out.

In the new video, three women discuss what their lives are like knowing they may never have biological children. Two of the women explained that they most likely will never have children due to medical issues, while the third said she never got an explanation as to why she can’t reproduce.

All three of the women discuss the ups and downs they’ve experienced after discovering they can’t have children. “There were a few times I thought I was pregnant and then I wasn’t,” one woman said. “It started to feel like I was cursed.”

Another woman comments on how frustrating it is to not have control over her own body. “It was never my choice whether or not I would be able to have children,” she said.

“Whether or not you want to have children, receiving that piece of news is really hard and can change your life,” one woman said. Another added: “I felt really lost, and I felt like I couldn’t offer what I needed to offer in order to be like someone that someone wanted to be with for the long term.”

The women said that although it was initially very hard knowing they most likely will not have kids, that rough pill has become easier to swallow over time. You don’t have to give birth to someone to be their mother,” one woman said. “Think about all the motherly characters in your life and the influences. Not all of them gave birth to you.”

Towards the end of the video one of the women pointed out there are many more things to do in your life than simply reproduce: “There’s more ways to leave a legacy than a biological child walking around this earth.”

A Letter To My Uncle Who Isn’t Dealing Well With SCOTUS’ Marriage Equality Decision

Last week, a relative reached out on his own accord to assure me that although he disagreed with the Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality, he still loved and respected me as a gay family member. Drawing on my own experiences growing up in the Church, our collective family history, and my eventual coming out in a conservative religious culture, I sent the following response to him.

Dear Uncle G,

Your letter expressing your love and respect for me even though you disagree with the Supreme Court marriage equality ruling speaks to the heart of our current national dialogue regarding marriage equality and civil rights, specifically within religious communities and families. Please indulge me as I respond.

Within the Church, we are taught that we can (and should) “love the sinner and hate the sin.” In doing so, people of faith disassociate themselves from any harm or accountability to those whose identity is deemed inherently “sinful,” specifically: gay people. My understanding when I attended church was as follows:

If we can accept someone and yet not accept their “sin,” we’re effectively demonstrating love while still not condoning sinful behavior. Any confusion or hard feelings from outsiders due to this practice are misplaced. We’re merely maintaining God’s will on earth and adhering to His instructions as to how we should live. If our actions translate to prohibitive politics, reformative therapy, or the repression and rejection of someone’s identity, the church bears no responsibility for simply carrying out what we’ve been instructed to do. Furthermore, as sinners ourselves, we recognize that we all have to work to achieve salvation and it’s not on us to water down what is required of us as followers of Christ. Any dissension from those on the outside is often an instance of persecution for our faith.

Here’s the truth: that’s not the case. To ascribe to as much essentially passes the buck for some severely damaging policies and attitudes. Whatever the genuine, faith-based intentions of the church have been over the last five decades, their actions through anti-gay marriage campaigning and legislation have been inarguably prohibitive, discriminatory, and scathing to the American gay community.

During the decades in which churches have claimed to uphold a “standard” by campaigning and asserting the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman (even regardless of sexual persuasion), countless gay men, women, and couples have been shut out and left federally unrecognized. They’ve paid higher taxes than married couples with comparable assets, have been denied medical benefits, willfully withheld from visiting their partners in the hospital due to the fact that they aren’t “family,” and experienced countless inequalities on a consistent and massive scale.

Furthermore, the gay community has suffered an extraordinary amount of persecution and violence towards them in a country that bears responsibility for as much by consistently denying gays rights and, therefore, basic human value. Compounding that violence, churches have passionately preached and characterized gay folk as harmful, synonymous with pedophiles, and in danger of hell no matter what their personal actions demonstrate. Lastly, churches have ruthlessly preached the fearful ideology that legalizing gay marriage will rob America of its morals and values and fundamentally compromise the American family structure.

I alternately witnessed and felt every one of these examples in my childhood. When my parents told me at the age of eight that Uncle John was gay and had AIDS, it was intensely confusing and traumatizing to try to experience John’s love, affection, gifted nature, and presence in my life, yet have the legitimacy of that called immediately into question because of what I had been negatively taught about gay people as a child in church. Thankfully, my parents chose to keep my brother and I close to John until the end, as tragic as it was. However, after John’s death, you can imagine my sheer terror when my first substantial attractions leaned towards the other boys at school. This is not okay, I told myself. What have I done wrong? I felt betrayed by my own body, worthless, that I had done something terrible to cause these feelings which had to be rectified, and, of course, that I was in danger of hell. I hadn’t yet turned thirteen.

To make matters worse, just a few months after John’s passing our church began holding intensely emotional and distraught “Town Hall” meetings during Sunday night services in response to local petitions from gay men and women seeking legal recognition as couples (not even marriage, at that point). During these meetings, our leaders vehemently warned the congregation that this petition heralded the church’s darkest hour: that the passage of such laws would bring an assault on the church, hail the end of morals and values, and that the church MUST stand in the way of such destructive legislation. This only struck further terror into me and intensified my self-loathing.

School was no better: Taunted for being artistic and effeminate (the latter I effectively beat out of myself by high school), I received consistent harassment both physically and verbally for being “gay.” Truly, from school, to church, to John’s horrific death, there was no worse thing to be called or to be. And even, John, I wondered, did he bring this on himself? Was his death God’s punishment for being gay? Did his extraordinary mind, talent, his noteworthy contributions to the computer industry, generosity, love, and struggle with his identity not count for something in the eyes of God…?

Guess not.

After a painful and confused adolescence with some pretty self-destructive behavior, I moved into the present. The world finally opened up to me as I came out. To say “opened up” does not mean that life became easier, but gradually became clearer as I eventually found the integrity and honesty I thought I could never possess due to my attractions. The precept that I was doomed to a life without integrity because I was gay was the most insidious lie taught to me as a teenager, relentlessly communicated over and over again through church and church-influenced culture.

Much to my relief (and theirs), my immediate family didn’t pull away when I came out. Though we’ve moved through a few issues over time, they’ve got my back. There’s not merely an understanding between us, but a joyful acceptance of my identity. Something I know they’ve been longing for since they felt their own internal struggles with Uncle John when he came out to them in the ’70s. Being gay has become a welcome and celebrated part of me and my nuclear family.

Over time, I witnessed firsthand the frustrations, inequalities, and discriminations fced by my gay friends who were partnered. Gradually, marriage equality passed into legislation state by state and granted the couples in those states with equal rights regardless of their orientation. Few of these gay couples who benefited were religious. They sought a purely legal recognition of their partnership, even refusing to accept “civil unions” which still denied gay couples in certain benefits and rights afforded to those straight couples who were married.

As conservative opposition increasingly mounted from the naysayers in California, and in every state where this swiftly came to the forefront of the political stage, the overriding sentiment among my current community was one of befuddlement and incredulity. “What is their PROBLEM?” we asked. “The majority of us don’t WANT to get married in a church and aren’t TRYING to infringe on anyone else’s rights! MY rights have been infringed upon for the last 10/30/50 years! I want equal standing!”

So finally, after a battle spanning several generations, the Supreme Court cited the Constitution to recognize gay married couples as federally legitimate in all 50 states. Every marriage, regardless of orientation, now receives equal treatment under the law, granting victory to those who have worked tirelessly for their own benefit and the benefit of others for decades. As I walked jubilantly to work that Friday morning, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders that I hadn’t realized was there: I was finally an equal citizen in this country and no longer needed to fear that equality being threatened or taken away.

I took a moment to reflect on Uncle John and his legacy. I thought about the terror and uncertainty he had experienced growing up all the way until his death and considered my own traumatic history. Taking a breath, I reached toward John to share the hope and promise that this landmark decision would eradicate from the experiences of future generations of gay men and women the fears and abuses he had suffered. Nor did those fears hold a part in my story any longer. This ruling not only guarantees us equality, it dignifies and legitimizes us in a way we have not been prior to this moment. Whether marriage is a prospect for any one gay individual or not (and though there are certainly still battles to fight) we are equal and we are free. I thanked John for his and his generation’s part in that.

I know, and have known for some time, that you have not sided with gay Americans on this issue and further, your church has actively campaigned against marriage equality. Knowing this has not affected how I’ve interacted with you or the warmth I’ve shared when seeing you over the last few years. While I’ve not wholly ignored your stance on this issue, I figured a conversation regarding it would happen at the right time. Until such time, I didn’t feel we should hold back any of the love and affection we feel toward each other in the so few times we’re able to visit. I hope none of this will change.

However, I also hope this letter gives light to my confusion when you express that you love and respect me even though you disagree with the Supreme Court’s decision. The SCOTUS ruling, as I’ve detailed it, gives my community and I legal recognition and validation in a way we have never had. It extends my rights, legitimizes me and a prospective partner should we choose to marry, and affords me equal standing with my parents, brother and sister-in-law, likely my nephew, and you.

To hear you say you love me and yet disagree with that is confusing. In fact, as frustrating as it may be to hear, to say as much is discriminatory. That’s not an accusation, it’s a clear-cut fact. You can’t say you love someone (which assumes you want the best for them) and then disagree with a positive movement for their civil rights.

I love you. Sometimes when I visit with extended family on either side, there’s a distance from one or two people that’s never articulated. I can sense they feel awkward due to my sexuality and yet, they want to be warm. As a result, much to their own bewilderment, when they share that they’re proud of me and love me they’re also keeping an emotional distance.

This annoys me. Not because I think less of them for not having it all figured out or because I think they’re stupid, but because they don’t have to feel that way. Their confusion is completely fear-based and obstructs the positive energy they’re naturally trying to express. I’m guessing they’re annoyed, too. Not to mention fearful and sad.

That’s a crime. I should never have felt sweat-inducing fear for Uncle John’s soul at the age of eight and no one should feel fear for me (and you can be sure my nephew won’t feel any such fear, even if I have to strong-arm it). These fears only cause distance, which is needless and tragic. If you hold any of these fears within you, I hope you can find a way to process and move through them because distance isn’t fun, it’s not family, and it’s not necessary. Let me know how I can help.

Thank you for reading. I hope this provides an avenue for further dialogue.

All my love,

Colin

Shocker: Crunchy Black Isn’t Having Any Fun In Jail

The last time you heard from Three 6 Mafia’s Crunchy Black, it wasn’t for any sort of Hip-Hop nostalgic reasons. At 40-years-old, the veteran rapper born Darnell Carlton got himself in the crosshairs of the law when he was caught with meth in Las Vegas, eventually earning him a non-paid vacation in jail for seven months back in April.

Seeing that he has plenty of time to reflect these days, HipHopDX’s Ural Garrett managed to put CB’s phone time to use for an interview from within the belly of the beast. And as you could expect, he’s not having the time of his life, seeing that he can’t even listen to music in the “Room 1″ he’s currently incarcerated in. However, he’s still holding his head like an OG.

“Oh man, I’m holding up all good. Gone let ’em know. I’m a hood ni**a so this jail shit ain’t sh*t to me,” he says, “Right now man, I’m looking for a whole big change… Because I represent God all the way even though I was representing that Three Six Mafia. I represent God all the way. So, I’m looking for a change right now. When I get out of here, I ain’t going to talk to a lot of people. I ain’t going to answer the phone for you. A lot of people I ain’t messing with. Supposed to be getting their bills paid? I ain’t gone help them. I know God represent me and I represent God and he known what I’m talking bout. He understands why I’m making this change for and what I’m going to do.”

“I don’t feel like he gone be mad at me because I told him I’m going to be one of the key players for him to make people who don’t believe in him, believe in him. So, I’m a looking for a change.”

Crunchy Black also revealed that he still keeps in close contact with DJ Paul and has fans putting money on his books. He also gave updates on his upcoming musical releases, which include a feature with YG, who he learned had gotten shot during the course of the interview.

“I hope he feeling better because you know I got shot too. I got shot in my muthaf*cking head but God was on my side so I hope he got God on his side,” Black said of his Bompton homie.

He also expects to be released from prison just in time for Christmas, on December 23.

That ‘Racist’ J.Crew Ad Isn’t Racist. Here’s Why.

There’s a photo of a J.Crew ad being shared around social media right now that shows a black male model with the words “We Own Them.”

View post on imgur.com

Seems pretty racially insensitive, right? Here’s the good news: it’s been ALTERED.

j crew

We looked for the ad ourselves and found it in the July 2015 “Style Guide” catalog. The real ad actually reads: “Stripes: We Own Them.” Yes, that means that someone took it upon themselves to deliberately place their thumb over the word “stripes,” prompting a lot of folks to call the ad racist as the photo soared to the top of Reddit’s homepage on Tuesday afternoon.

jcrew ad

It’s unclear where the photo originated, but it’s already been seen more than a million times on Imgur alone and is spreading across Twitter. Sadly, situations like this are believable and often taken at face value since the fashion industry is plagued with racially insensitive imagery and a blatant lack of diversity.

We’re relieved that this J.Crew ad won’t be added to that notorious list.

The Huffington Post reached out for J.Crew for comment, and will update this post with any response.

Why The Itsy Bitsy Bikini Trend Isn’t Going Anywhere Anytime Soon

Hawaii gets a lot of flak for being behind on trends, but when it comes to swimwear, the Aloha state is definitely ahead of the curve.

And we know something mainland beaches don’t: cheeky bikini bottoms are about to sweep the nation.

The Brazilian bikini bottom — the barely-there style of the ’80s — has been resurrected in new and more modest ways, and this time, bikini experts say, it’s here to stay.

“The [Brazilian bikini] trend is growing,” Debbie Wilson, owner and designer of Maui Girl Bikinis, told The Huffington Post. “I don’t see it losing popularity.”

everyone

You Can Thank/Blame Social Media

Wilson has been designing all types of bikinis for 30 years. When she first opened her boutique on Maui, Brazilian-cut and thong bikinis weren’t in much demand. Now, Wilson says, they make up 75 to 80 percent of her overall sales.

The resurgence has swept Hawaii over the past five years, and signs of it are just now beginning to pop up on the mainland. Victoria’s Secret, perhaps the most mainstream swimwear brand, has introduced an “Itsy” option as well as a “Cheeky” option, and San Lorenzo, the Hawaii-based boutique that specializes in the Brazilian-cut, has recently branched out with stores in Newport Beach and Malibu as well as a pop up shop in the Hamptons — the paragon of East Coast prep and propriety.

Those in the industry say the surge in popularity may be related to the rise of social media.

Sabra Krock, creative director for the swim boutique Everything But Water, told The Daily Beast that the recent “fitness craze” is to thank for the cheeky trend, “as well as the Instagram and selfie voyeurism that’s online,” she said.

“I definitely point to Instagram as a key reason for a desire to emulate celebrities,” she said.

Once You Try It…

The trend may have only recently reignited, but Mariella St. John, marketing director for San Lorenzo Bikinis, says that this style “is one that you can never go back on.”

Today’s line-up of Brazilian-cut bikinis offers more modest designs, making the style more accessible. While veterans and daredevils might still opt for super thin thongs or the showy v-line swimsuits of the late ’80s and ’90s, more modest options like cheeky boy shorts now exist.

These new designs, Wilson says, are “turning into g-strings again, but with more details, like a waistband, or shorts that still fit you in a way a [thong] would.”

Contrary to what you may think, Wilson explained, smaller bikini bottoms have a “slimming effect” on your rear end.

“Women are starting to realize that the [smaller cuts] are more flattering,” she said.

Finding Your Fit

When choosing the right cut, Emma Wo, fashion blogger at AlohaBabe.net and Miss Hawaii 2015, says “it’s important to find a style that works well with your body type. Brazilian-cut bikinis can seem daunting at first,” she told HuffPost, “but if you’ve got curves, full-coverage bikinis can actually make you look wider.”

“When customers, who have never worn our bikinis, come into the store, we tell them, ‘We’re going to convert you,'” St. John said. When her customers find the right fit of a cheeky bikini and then go back to a traditional cut, they often tell her that the regular bottoms feel like a “diaper.”

For comparison, here’s a traditional cut next to a Brazilian cut on the same model at a San Lorenzo boutique:

slbikini

If you’re shy about jumping in to a full Brazilian bikini, Naomi Newirth, co-designer of Acacia Swimwear, says to find somewhere in between and start there — “not full coverage and not a total Brazilian cut,” she told HuffPost, “no extra sag or fabric.”

Acacia Swimwear’s 2015 collection features cheeky bottoms that still maintain moderate coverage, like the ones featured below. Bikini model Chelsea Yamase also suggests Mikoh Bikinis, for a similar style.

If you’re still nervous about making the switch, bikini blogger Rebekah Steen of Gold Fish Kiss says, “Just give it a shot. At least once. Life’s short, try it out, and get some sun on your buns. You’ll be surprised how wearing just a little less fabric on your bum makes it look just that much better.”

Below, we’ve rounded up some of the best in-between cheeky bikinis so you can try the trend out for yourself.

New Mom Blake Lively Isn’t Concerned With ‘Having It All’

New mom Blake Lively isn’t fixated on “having it all.”

“Most of the things I do are all-consuming, but somehow I find a way to do it all. It’s not having it all; it’s about doing it all,” Lively told Allure magazine, before delving into the complexities of the sentiment: “But it’s dangerous to dilute that to a catchphrase. Having it all could be having a happy, healthy family, and you could be a mom who stays at home, and that is the most admirable thing you could do. Or it could be having a profession that you really believe in, and not having a family, and doing what fulfills you. If it’s not a part of a conversation with someone face-to-face, those bites are why women tear each other apart or why the media will tear people apart.”

The 27-year-old is on the cover of the May 2015 issue of Allure. It is her first magazine spread since welcoming daughter James with husband Ryan Reynolds in December. The former “Gossip Girl” star announced her pregnancy on her website, Preserve, in October with a simple photo taken by her brother, showing the actress holding her growing belly.

That decision was a personal one.

“That was my way of owning that moment. I can’t be someone like Beyoncé …,” Lively said, referencing Bey’s onstage pregnancy announcement at the VMAs in 2011. “But it was important for us,” she continued, “It was a struggle, because we want to keep our privacy, but we also don’t want our lives to be exploited by other people. So we did it simply; it was a quiet way, an elegant way.”

For more with Blake Lively, head over to Allure.com or pick up the new issue on newsstands April 21.

The morning of the wedding can be an emotional roller coaster for the marrying couple — that we know. But here’s one groom who was simply unable contain his, er, excitement.

KIDDING. That’s not actually an erect penis. If you haven’t already figured out what’s going on here, allow the groom, Ian, to explain.

“Getting dressed before my wedding,” he captioned the photo on Reddit on Thursday. “Only noticed the belt after the pictures had been distributed.”

This very happy accident occurred at Ian’s 2013 wedding in New Brunswick, Canada, but it wasn’t until he posted the kinda-sorta d**k pic on Reddit this week that it aroused the attention of more than 2 million people. Photographer Chelsey LeBlanc called the sudden attention a “very unexpected surprise.”

“It was noticed not too long after the photo was given to the client and was posted on Facebook,” she told The Huffington Post. “We laughed about it at the time. In fact, Ian is the one who posted it on Reddit simply because he thought it was amusing.”

If you ask us, you’re never too old to find a penis-belt “amusing.”

Why Michael Sam Believes He Isn’t On an NFL Team | Oprah Prime | Oprah Winfrey Network

An All-American at the University of Missouri and Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Michael Sam became the first openly gay player to be drafted into the National Football League in May 2014. He was picked up by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the draft but cut at the end of training camp. Then, Michael was chosen to be a part of the Dallas Cowboys practice squad and released from that team as well. “Do you think now that the reason why you are not with a team is because you weren’t good enough to play?” Oprah asks Michael. “Or because you are gay?”

Aspiring Model With Crohn’s Disease Isn’t Afraid To Show Colostomy Bags In Bikini Photo

When Bethany Townsend finally grew sick and tired of hiding her colostomy bags, she posed for a photo in a sleek black bikini and shared the image on Facebook, not expecting much fanfare.

More than 195,000 likes and hundreds of votes of confidence later, the 23-year-old has shed any insecurities she once had and hopes she can help other people living with her condition to do the same.

Townsend, of Worcester, England, has certainly endured hardships since she was 3 and first developed Crohn’s disease, a condition that causes chronic inflammation involving any location of the gastrointestinal tract, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

She had multiple surgeries throughout the years, was nourished through a feeding tube for four years and took a range of medicines daily, according to her Facebook post. Then, in 2010, her bowels burst. She had a portion of her intestines removed and was fitted for two colostomy bags, through which her stool collects.

While Townsend was relieved to have survived the ordeal, the makeup artist was devastated about having to rely on the colostomy bags, she told the Daily Mail. She also decided to shelve her modeling career as a result.

Even after she married her supportive husband Ian, 33, she still felt reluctant to show off her figure.

But that all changed last Christmas when the couple traveled to Mexico and Townsend mustered the courage to take a picture of herself lying out in the sun in a revealing bikini, colostomy bags and all, she wrote on Facebook.

Six months later, Townsend sent the image to Crohn’s and Colitis UK, a nonprofit that works to improve the quality of life for people with irritable bowl disease (IBD), which mostly includes people with Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis.

The group was thrilled with the photo and posted it to its Facebook page. The image has gone viral, inspiring people with and without Crohn’s to support Townsend’s bravery and inspiring message.

“Isn’t it amazing that we can have most of our guts removed and still show more ‘guts’ than everyone else combined xo,” one Facebook commenter wrote.

Townsend was shocked by the incredible feedback she received, an overwhelming reaction that has moved her to pick up modeling again and to keep advocating as much as possible for people with Crohn’s disease.

“If I can inspire or help other people in my position to feel a little more comfortable in their own skin,” she told the Daily Mail, “then I’m really happy.”

Brad Pitt Jams On Tambourine With Bruno Mars, And His Cameo Isn't Even The Best Part

At 50, Brad Pitt is still a sex machine and he gave us another reason to think so on Saturday night.

The “12 Years a Slave” actor joined Bruno Mars onstage for a surprise performance at his nonprofit’s gala in New Orleans. Pitt jammed along on the tambourine while Mars belted out a cover of James Brown’s “Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine.”

Mars was the headliner for Pitt’s Make It Right charity event, which cost $ 1,000 a head, and raised funds for the organization that builds green homes for people in need.

Founded in 2007, the organization first aimed to revitalize New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and has now expanded to build apartments for veterans with disabilities in Newark, N.J. The nonprofit is also working on a community development in Kansas City, Mo., according to its website.

The crowd, which was packed with other Hollywood heavyweights including Sandra Bullock and Chris Rock, according to US Weekly, lapped up Pitt’s number and he returned the love right back.

“I love New Orleans,” Pitt reportedly told the crowd prior to the performance, according to E Online. “And I’m extremely proud of the lower 9th ward community.”

If you’re wondering how exactly we can tell that this particular pooch loves road tripping with his owner Patrick Barnes, you clearly haven’t heard his celebratory howls above.

While we’re equally excited for Quincy and Patrick’s getaway, we should note that much like how people wear seat belts for safety, all animals should be harnessed in a similar way. Just sayin’.
