Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin And Arcade Fire Lead Toronto Film Festival
Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin and Arcade Fire are all subjects of films set to show at the Toronto Film Festival, which begins on September 10 and runs for 11 days. Franklin’s film, Amazing Grace, was shot in 1972 by Sydney Pollack to document her live double album of the same name at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

Janis Joplin Documentary To Premiere In September
A new Janis Joplin documentary is scheduled to make its theatrical debut at the Venice Film Festival in September. NME reports that the film, titled Janis, directed by Amy Berg, will include narration from Chan Marshall, better known as singer Cat Power, who “will read letters Joplin wrote to her friends and lovers.”
