How to Keep Your Balls Fresh, Clean, and Dry

While your nether regions aren’t on public display nearly as often as your perfectly groomed mug (we hope), it’s still imperative—for your health, and for your partner’s ego—that you keep everything down there clean and healthy. Because your junk spends most of the day in the dark, and because moisture so easily accumulates in this area, your balls and everything else are at greater risk for infection (not to mention nastiness).

52 Foods That Boost Penis Health, Supercharge Libido, and Increase Pleasure

Here are the best ways to keep your balls dry, clean, and fresh, and your man parts presentable—even if only for you.

First, develop a grooming regimen for your junk:

Washing: You’re remiss not to shower—did we really have to tell you that? Give everything a scrubdown with a nourishing, mild soap or body wash. “Wash the area daily, and after working out,” says New York-based dermatologist Anthony M. Rossi, M.D. “This helps prevent bacterial and fungal skin infections that can happen.” We recommend something like Jack Black All-Over Wash, which is a facial cleanser, shampoo and body wash in one.

Powders: Then, as you get dressed, sprinkle some moisture-wicking body powder into your drawers, and evenly distribute it around your business, even down there between the legs. Jack Black’s Dry Down Friction-Free Powder keeps your skin soft as it soaks up any sweat. It also prevents chafing throughout the day, and during workouts. (It also smells freaking great.)

Creams: As an alternative to powder, you can invest in a soothing cream, like the aptly named Fresh Balls Lotion for Men which is less cumbersome to apply than powder, and dries with a cooling tingle. It’s talc- and aluminum-free, so it keeps everything dry without putting any potentially harmful ingredients into your body. Rossi’s favorite topical creams have zinc oxide, which he says is “a great barrier paste that prevents chafing and irritation” by settling in the folds of the skin to block yeast and bacteria buildup. Try Mayron’s Goods Junk Stuff for that—it also doubles as a healing cream for existing chafing and irritation.

Manscaping: Lastly, keep things trim. Some guys like to remove all their hair, but that’s not necessary. Instead, just trim the area with an electric clipper, to minimize the amount of moisture that gets trapped by the hairs. If you choose to shave all the way down, Rossi warns, you run the risk of shaving over infected skin or using a blade that has accumulated bacteria. In either scenario, you can infect the hair follicle; folliculitis is painful, so it’s imperative to keep the area clean, and to only manscape with a fresh razor.

12 Things Every Man Should Know About His Penis

Equip yourself with the right underwear

You can’t go wrong with cotton. It’s the most breathable fabric, and if you’re taking the aforementioned preventative measures, you should already be less prone to any swampy buildu, since cotton easily absorbs and holds sweat. Rossi suggests finding a good cotton-polyester blend, since polyester helps migrate any moisture to the outside of the fabric, allowing it to evaporate. A brand like Saxx is ideal: Their underwear is made with comfy pima cotton along with stretchy spandex and polyester; plus, SAXX’s unique “Ballpark pouch” panels act like dividers for your junk and your legs, providing the perfect combo of breathability, form-fitting comfort, and architecture (read: room for your balls).

But even if you take preventative measures, you might still get sweaty during the day. For some guys, simply sitting for a few hours can cause things to get swampy. Solution? Pack an extra pair of underwear in your work bag. Sure, it seems excessive, but sitting in your own filth all day is akin to skipping a shower after a workout and letting everything fester—it’s a recipe for a fungal infection.

If you get jock itch:

Rossi suggests over-the-counter anti-fungal solutions like Terbinafine (laminal) creams, or Lotrimin. They should remedy the situation in a few days. (Many athlete’s foot creams are also effective against jock itch; they’re both fungal infections.)

“Of course, any rash that is not clearing up or improving should be seen by your dermatologist,” Rossi adds. “Not all rashes in the groin are jock itch.  Some can be cancerous.” So, if things aren’t fixed quickly, discontinue the anti-fungal cream and talk to your doctor.

5 Truly All-natural Deodorants That’ll Keep You Fresh and Dry

Deodorants and antiperspirants that simply nix aluminum will often call themselves all-natural. Sure, it’s a good start. The metal can clog pores, irritate skin, and cause those unappealing shirt stains. But sweat sticks and sprays can sneak in lab-made ingredients such as stabilizers, synthetics, and petrochemicals like those in windshield washer fluid.

Think your deodorant is the real deal? To be truly all-natural, the main components should be baking soda or arrowroot, lotion or oil, an antiseptic, and maybe a natural scent.

If your new deodorant isn’t as effective, give your body a few days to adjust and you’ll smell just fine.

People Keep Telling Me to Stop Blogging about North Korea

My critics have been extra vocal lately in saying I should stop writing about North Korea because I have no expertise in that area. So I decided to talk about North Korea some more. Today I’ll tell you how to end North Korea’s nuclear ambitions at a reasonable cost.

The entire GDP for North Korea is under $ 13 billion. China’s trade with North Korea is valued at under $ 3 billion per year. An article in Newsweek recently said most of that trade involves only ten Chinese companies. South Korea pays close to $ 1 billion per year to support U.S. troops there. I think we pay at least that much too. And that’s not counting navy assets in the area, I assume.

The South Korean military budget hovers around $ 40 billion. The U.S. military budget is over $ 600 billion per year. And North Korea is our biggest threat to the homeland. We could make all ten Chinese companies financially whole by allocating .005 of the military budget to paying them to find new suppliers and new markets. We might even become those new suppliers and markets in some cases.

As I often say in this blog, the key to deal-making is that the parties need to want different things. The Chinese companies trading with North Korea want profits, and the United States wants security. That’s the perfect set-up for a deal. The deal looks like this: “Take our money for ten years (only), stop trading with North Korea, and find new suppliers and customers, or we’ll turn out your lights with cyberattacks that look like they came from Russia.”

That’s the first-draft version. We can probably tighten that up a bit with lawyers and stuff.

Obviously this plan doesn’t work if the real problem is that the Chinese government wants to keep the North Korean nuclear threat the way it is. But that line of thinking never sounded credible to me. I’m also a bit skeptical that the Chinese fear mass immigration if North Korea falls apart. That seems like a smaller problem than nuclear war on the peninsula. But I could be wrong about that.

I could also be wrong about everything else in this post. I’m not an expert on North Korea. But as an American citizen, I have the right to wonder aloud why my government is skipping the cheap, non-military option for pressuring North Korea. If the government wants public support for whatever option they end up taking, it would help to keep citizens better informed than we are now, including me.

You might enjoy reading my book because I am not an expert on North Korea.

Report: Kanye West to Keep Yeezy at NYFW

There’s never been more talk of which designers are coming (Rihanna, Tom Ford), going (Altuzarra, Thom Browne, Tommy Hilfiger) and staying (Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs) to, from and in New York Fashion Week than there has been for the spring 2018 season. Still, there remains another major name affiliated with NYFW whose show destination remains unspoken for: What will Kanye do?
Sources say Kanye West is in talks with the CFDA to find a slot on the spring calendar for his Adidas-affiliated Yeezy collection, though a representative for the brand would not confirm the show’s location or any additional details. The CFDA declined to comment and the official fashion week calendar has yet to be released.
Last season, West initially took a slot on the calendar without consulting the CFDA, resulting in a temporary dustup when he unwittingly took a time slot that already belonged to Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig. Ultimately, the issue was resolved when West moved his show by two hours to avoid any conflicts.
If West does stay in town, it will be his sixth Yeezy collection shown in New York, which will surely be one of the most high-profile events on the schedule. His past productions

How to Keep Divorce Focused on the Needs of the Children

Placing children first should be the primary goal of every divorce, but sometimes there is a real lack of guidance and knowledge for parents who are trying to navigate this challenging experience and make informed decisions. As a result, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) has developed and released a helpful publication – AAML Child Centered Residential Guidelines. The digital edition is currently available as a free PDF download on the AAML website: www.aaml.org/ccrg.

2015-10-07-1444241430-3086782-ccrgcover.png

The guidelines address one of the most difficult challenges a parent must face during a divorce — deciding how to constructively divide access time with their kids. In order to help keep the divorce process as focused on the needs of the children as possible, the guidelines feature crucial advice from experts, recommended time schedules that spouses can adapt, and practical suggestions for arriving at a cooperative plan for the entire family.

As most states provide, “custody” is to be determined upon a “best interests” standard. AAML Past President Alton Abramowitz envisioned providing a national model, consistent with the aspirations of the Academy, to assist parents, judges, lawyers, mediators and parent educators in drafting child-centered residential guidelines, focusing on best interests, and as a result, reducing parental conflict relating to time-sharing of children.

The AAML Child Centered Residential Guidelines publication was then crafted in close consultation with and the editorial assistance of Robin M. Deutsch, PhD, the Director of the Center of Excellence for Children, Families and the Law at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP), and an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School.

One of the main goals of the publication is to address many of the questions that divorcing parents have about how to ensure the needs of their children are placed first, while providing key pieces of advice on some issues that they might not have anticipated. It also offers an essential model that ultimately stands apart from the generally accepted traditional alternating weekend visitation pattern followed by many courts throughout the country.

The parenting time options contained in the guidelines allow each family to choose the appropriate plan after considering the unique circumstances of the family and the characteristics of each of the children. Research does not support any particular parenting plan. Each family needs to consider the age, temperament and special needs of their child, previous caretaking arrangements, and the child’s individual relationship with each parent. Most important is that parents are able to communicate about their child on a regular basis. Parents must share information and effectively cooperate so that a child’s experience, as he or she transitions between parents, is as seamless as possible. A child should not be drawn into his or her parents’ dispute by being exposed to the conflict or acting as a messenger. A child who knows that he or she is more important than the conflict between his or her parents will be better adjusted than the child who becomes subjected to the chronic disputes and tension between his or her parents.
Parents, in addition to attorneys and judges as well as mental health providers, mediators and therapists may find these guidelines useful in resolving parenting time disputes and avoiding disagreements about how much time the child should spend with each parent. At the same time, these guidelines do not prohibit parents, lawyers, mediators and judges from creating parenting time plans that differ from the sample plans contained within the publication. Of course, the residential provisions for kids are only one of the many aspects in a child centered parenting plan.

In addition, the parenting visitation and access schedules presented allow families to choose the most appropriate framework for their children after carefully considering the maturity, circumstances and unique characteristics of each child. The overall goal of the guidelines are to make every minute that a child spends with each parent to be as meaningful as possible, while decreasing the stress and pressures of the custody process and transitions between households.

Apparently Minister Louis Farrakhan is not here for the way Beyonce dresses. He feels that it’s Jay Z’s job to keep her “in line” and to keep her clothed. He also seems to believe women tempt men and take their minds off of the Bible and Quran when they “disrobe” themselves. But isn’t she an entertainer and a grown woman?! Isn’t it her prerogative to be fully clothed or scantily clad? What are your thoughts?

Exposed on Ashley Madison? How to Confess and Keep Your Mate

2015-08-28-1440780351-6742576-ConfessPensiveMan.jpg
As you have probably heard by now, the “have an affair today” married hookup site Ashley Madison has suffered a fatal blow. Not only did the “house of cards” come crashing down, but the “chips” fell too, as the personal information of over 32 million cheaters and cheating wannabes was dumped online when the website was hacked. Talk about being caught with your pants down!

And — yes — being the author of a bestselling book about infidelity my inbox blew up! My marriage and family therapist hat has been firmly on ever since. Here is a sample plea:

Dr. Sheri:

“What am I supposed to do? I’m scared to death. I was on the Ashley Madison website more than once. It was fun and I was feeling lonely at home. I talked to a number of women and we shared sexual fantasies and met via Skype, but we never physically met or had real sex. Is that really cheating? Do I have to confess? If so, when? Is it better to confess now, or only if I’m found out? Is there any hope that I can salvage my relationship?

Of course, there’s hope! And it doesn’t need to lead to divorce or a break-up. But –YES — being on Ashley Madison is cheating; especially if it has involved secrecy, sharing intimacy with another and sexual titillation. And yes, it’s better to come clean and take loving, proactive steps NOW before the sh*t hits the fan.

Three Reasons to Confess Before Getting Busted:

1. Get ahead of the healing curve

Truth is always the greatest foundation to a strong relationship, and conversation. No matter the reason for cheating in the first place, confessing opens the door to healing and gets to the heart of the bigger problem. What is REALLY HAPPENING in your life and your relationship?

2. They already know

People are generally pretty observant, and sense things before they say things. BEFORE you get busted, being brave and coming clean may make the ensuing aftermath less ugly. By keeping it real — confessing and apologizing — you have taken the first steps towards repair, stopping the damage and perhaps avoiding divorce.

3. Keeping them in the dark

“What they don’t know won’t hurt them,” is a lie. While convenient for you [even though you are out of alignment] it doesn’t change the truth. Particularly in this case, time is the enemy of all deals and is not your friend, especially if you are in a position of being caught. Unless, you are planning to leave your relationship, the sooner you come clean and deal with the emotional aftermath, the closer you are to a new, open, honest relationship.

Ready to Confess? Five Questions To Ask Yourself:

  • Have you ended your affair?
  • Have you addressed WHY you had the affair(s) and/or joined a cheating site?
  • Have you “owned it” and regret your behavior and sincerely want to make amends?
  • Are you willing to do whatever it takes to earn your partner’s trust back and rebuild your relationship?
  • Are you ready to be faithful?

If you can answer “yes” to all of the above, you are ready to confess.

2015-08-28-1440780781-5512026-ConfessSex.jpg

FIVE THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU CONFESS:

  1. First, confess the whole truth to yourself. Take ownership of your infidelity and the love, attention and affection that you have denied your partner.
  2. Plan and prepare what you want to say. This is not the time to be spontaneous or impulsive. Put on empathetic shoes and imagine if things were reversed.
  3. Let go of blame and forgive your partner for anything they did [or didn’t do] that swayed you to cheat.
  4. Prepare yourself for your partner’s trust, emotional safety and self-esteem to be fragile for a while.
  5. Plan for the long haul, as the discovery and admission of an affair, [especially if it is a complete surprise], is like a 9.0 earthquake to a relationship. But, the path ahead offers opportunity to rethink everything: old rules, roles, and reasons for being together. Down the road, you may be rewarded with a revitalized relationship based on truth in all things.

2015-08-28-1440780480-1797949-ConfessTimeToTalk.jpg

The GOOD Apology

There is real pain here so be empathetic. Your partner will probably experience everything from post-traumatic stress; shock, confusion, anger, to being highly sensitive. Be patient as your partner moves through their grief. Be ready to apologize often, ask for forgiveness and say, “I’m sorry I hurt you.”

Think of the 4 Rs

  1. Recognize and acknowledge the pain you have caused.
  2. Regret what you’ve done and the pain it caused.
  3. Be responsible for your actions and inactions. All of them!
  4. Remedy the situation by giving your partner whatever they need to feel safe and rebuild trust

In order to heal your relationship you will need the courage of your conviction; that you want to make your relationship work, no matter what.

After the confession:

Your job?
To be dependable, consistent, responsive, accountable and comforting. Stay away from any and all “cheating” drugs of choice; be it a person, pornography or another site on the internet.

Be a “rock” in your vision and commitment, show genuine LOVE each day and the relationship will calm down and feel safer more quickly. Keep saying over and over, “we will get through this” to yourself and your partner.

Overcoming infidelity is a process, taking time and dedication. Reworking and rebuilding a relationship after infidelity isn’t easy, but neither is divorce. Stay dedicated to picking up those pieces, and you may find a whole new way to build up your foundation again! This time, with solid bricks of truth and love.

Need to File for a Divorce!

3 Words To Keep In Mind After A Breakup

Different people have different reactions to getting dumped. Some retreat into themselves and need to be alone, others act unaffected and throw themselves into all things social. No matter the initial reaction, at the heart of it all is the universal sting you can’t help but feel when experiencing rejection from someone you cared about.

This rejection sparks a distinct emotional pain, but Dr. Phil McGraw once offered an “Oprah Show” audience some timeless advice that can help anyone going through a breakup. As he said back then, remembering three little words can make a big difference in helping you move on.

Don’t personalize rejection,” Dr. Phil says. “People get rejected and they say, ‘Well, that means there must be something wrong with me.’ It doesn’t mean any such a thing!”

Instead, he continues, the issue is likely something rooted within your ex, something far beyond your control.

“Oftentimes, the flaw is in the other person,” Dr. Phil says. “You hear about people with an inability to commit, or they’ve just got immaturity, or they’ve got other fish to fry in their life and it’s just not the right time… Haven’t you been with people that were just wonderful, but they just weren’t right with you?”

If you’re unable to stop personalizing rejection, it can spill over into your future relationships in a very negative way. “You’re dragging all that baggage with you. You gotta get past that,” Dr. Phil says. “Don’t make them pay for sins — real or imagined — that [a past partner] committed… Start fresh. Give yourself a break.”

More advice from Dr. Phil: How to keep away from your ex — for good.

6 Times Parents Caught Their Mischievous Kids But Struggled To Keep A Straight Face

Every parent has been there — you catch your kids doing something crafty to reach the cookies, or painting the dog’s fur, or cutting their younger sibling’s hair. You start disciplining them, but there’s one little thing that gets in your way: the fact that the situation — and, more importantly, your kid — is undeniably hilarious. So you lose it, struggling to keep it together or even erupting into laughter.

Fortunately for us, some parents don’t just focus on fighting the laughs; they also take the opportunity to film or photograph their kids after they’ve been caught red-handed. In the spirit of celebrating parents who are strong and soft, we’ve partnered with Angel Soft to compile our favorite sidesplitting parental moments — the ones where the only thing harder than disciplining your kid is disciplining yourself to not burst out laughing.

1. The Lipstick Lovers

How in the world do you get lipstick off of kids faces?!! O.M.G. #kidsaretheworst #motd #lippies #makeup

A photo posted by Mack (@thesodakshack) on

Image: Mackenzie Tims

This definitely isn’t what lipstick was made for, but good luck explaining that to a kid. One minute, everything is business as usual. The next, you find your kids covered in your favorite shade of rouge — and you can bet they’re pretty proud of themselves. At least at first.

“They knew they were busted as soon as I caught them, red-handed at that!” says the children’s mom, Mackenzie Tims. “I managed to keep a straight face while scolding them for getting into makeup without asking, but I struggled to keep my composure once I put them in the tub and realized how hard it was going to be to get the lipstick off their faces.” The best part? Her 5-year-old sighed and told her, “I wish I didn’t do this; I’m going to be stuck this color forever!”

“I had to bury my face in a towel every time I cracked a smile to keep from letting on that this was one of the most hilarious things they had ever done,” admits Tims.

2. The Applesauce Artist

Video: Jessica Cook

It was basically inevitable that this mom would let out some laughs as she gave her son a talking-to about his applesauce adventures. How can you keep it together when someone so small makes such a big mess (he even got applesauce on the dog) and then tries to negotiate his way out in that sweet little voice? It can’t be done; but this mom still manages to lay down some serious discipline, giggles aside. Pro tip: Blaming it on the dog never pans out — and almost always leads to a timeout.

3. The Future Picassos

Video: Cheryl Edwards

What do you do when three little boys draw all over the walls? You make them scrub, of course. If you think cleaning constitutes punishment, though, think again; these brothers are having a little too much fun washing the walls after they used them as their personal canvases.

“It was a struggle to keep a straight face when they were covered in markers in a freshly ‘decorated’ room and working to clean it off,” says mom Cheryl Edwards. Still, she puts the boys to work cleaning while stifling a laugh, which earns her major bonus parent points in our book.

4. The Tornadoes

Image: @making our dream/@happy.healthy.mama/@kidsaretheworst

Lesson learned: Never trust a kid in a store. All it takes is an instant; and in that instant, whether you’re catching up with a friend or examining your next purchase, you’ll find that each and every item from the shelves is littered along the aisle, all thanks to your oh-so-happy toddler.

That’s exactly what moms Michelle Fontin and Sarah Mandel found when they ran into each other on a shopping trip. “We watched [our kids] out of the corner of our eye, but at some point, pure mayhem had happened in the ‘throw’ blanket aisle,” Fontin recalls. “The damage had already been done, and the kids were super happy tossing everything around. So we actually let them play a bit longer while we finished our conversation.” Taking a moment to appreciate the hilarity (and preserve it for posterity’s sake) is what it’s all about, after all. “When it was time to go, we made them put everything back,” she explains. “To be honest — and I think most moms will agree — this disaster was worth an uninterrupted time of adult conversation with a dear friend!”

5. The Tagger

Ella proud of spelling her name #2010flashback #kidsaretheworst #think #EV

A photo posted by Knut Espen Bryhn (@kebr) on

Sure, she doesn’t have a license to drive (give it another decade, maybe), but why should that stop her from claiming her wheels? After all, successfully spelling your name is cause for celebration — and in this case, cause for graffiting the car.

“It was impossible to get angry about this, mainly because of that smile that met me, so proud,” explains Ella’s father, Knut Espen Bryhn, who Instagrammed the automobile art. “And second, because I knew it [was] easy to clean off. I just had to laugh at it and explain that this was not a good idea.” Way to go, patient parents who reiterate the rules and take advantage of photo ops. We’re forever impressed by your balancing act.

6. The Storyteller

Video: Sherrica Sims/Rumble

This little doughnut thief is adamant that she’s innocent until proven guilty — despite that her half-eaten treat is hiding in plain sight. We’ve never seen a kid try to talk her way out of trouble quite as well as this smooth-talking storyteller, and her mom deserves some major kudos for keeping it together as she reminds Tiffany of the rules. Bonus points to Mom for playing along with the story — and for poking holes in it when her daughter is clearly the culprit.

Angel Soft is proud to celebrate parents who can lay down the law, but still appreciate the humor in life’s little messes. Parents are both soft and strong, which is why Angel Soft products are too; learn more at AngelSoft.com.

Can’t Control the Weather – A Few Pointers to Keep Those Lo cks Looking Great on the Road

I did a column here last week about keeping our hair looking great in high humidity. We run into that ‘wall of water’ when we land in Miami, for example, or New York City in August … “Oh, man!” Hot and wet!

Part of the solution is that you just have to surrender some of that control. It is so difficult to keep the look you created in L.A. when you step off the plane in Atlanta. Depending on our natural hair, it can go flat and limp or wildly curly and frizzy.

Still, “be prepared,” pack your hair tools, favorite products and hair accessories along with a healthy dose of flexibility.

I recently traveled and forgot my conditioner and thought, “no big deal. How bad could hotel products be?” Well, they can be harsh on hair and, “yes,” they smell absolutely delicious and they suds-up like none other but be careful. Sometimes products with suds use a lot of sulfates, which can be hard on hair, especially if your hair has been chemically treated for a perm or coloring.

• My suggestion is to take travel-size products with you from home. Go to your favorite drug store and buy the small, plastic, airplane-approved, 3.4 oz. bottles and put your trusted products in them.

• When you head for another city, always pack a selection of hair accessories, including barrettes, which are trending strong, and ponytail holds and favorite hair clips. These are incredibly useful in taming hair when you’ve already tried hair mousse and gels. The variety of styles and availability is better than ever. Ponytails, buns and other updos work in virtually every environment from the boardroom to the gym. When you hit that wave of high humidity, a ponytail is a great way to go in a slick-back wet look.

• Humidity and free bath samples aren’t the only risks when traveling. Water is different everywhere. Some is soft and some is hard with lots of minerals. Those minerals can leave deposits on your hair, changing the texture or feel. Using your quality products from home can help this a lot. When you get home, detox your hair, wash it with a clarifying shampoo or a mix of baking soda and water. This will strip the hair of mineral build-up. Then apply a deep, penetrating mask or deep conditioner and let it sit on your hair for a good amount of time … Your hair will love you for it!

Remember, you can’t beat the weather, and you don’t pick the water coming out of the shower, so be flexible and patient out of town.

As always, be open to change!

An Open Letter to Cinderella: How to Divorce Prince Charming And Keep Some Money

Dear Cinderella,

You might be surprised that I’m writing you this letter, considering that you are one of the world’s most prominent examples of a happy marriage. But, as a seasoned divorce attorney, I’ve learned to spot the ones whose marriages are on the way out–and frankly, Cinderella, I’ve seen that look in your eye.

You probably don’t want to admit it. You’re probably thinking, If I get a divorce from Prince Charming, will I be letting the world down? Will I be disillusioning thousands, nay millions of little girls whose dreams of finding fairy tale romance hinge on my prime example? Cinderella, we can only hope.

With this in mind, I’m going to advise you now as if you had wandered into my office, impractical shoes and all, asking “How do I divorce Prince Charming?”

Lesson One: Get a prenup.

I’m not going to sugar-coat this, Cinderella: You, like most ill-advised Disney princesses, have been operating under the assumption that a Prince will make you happy. I’m guessing based on the fact that you were roughly 16 when you got married, and that your decision to marry was doubtless driven by a desire to escape a life of indentured servitude, you were probably more focused on the door than you were on arranging a prenup.

I mean, let’s be blunt here: Prince Charming has substantial assets, and this was probably part of the attraction. But, as you’ll find out in the process of divorcing him, the Prince’s assets–his royal inheritance etc.–are what we in the divorce business call “pre-marital assets.” In other words, you can’t touch them. Thus, like so many women before and after you, you were in a financially disadvantaged position at the start of the marriage and thought it would be rude to ask for a prenup, and now at the end of the marriage here you are in a financially disadvantaged position once again.

I know, it’s unfair. Considering how you’ve spent your life looking after Prince Charming and your royal children, how you’ve smiled and waved when you were supposed to, fulfilled your responsibilities (even indulging his fantasies of having you dress up like a house wench and tickle his feet with your feather-duster)–even with all that, now you’ve been left in a position where you probably can’t touch his royal monies. Such is the law–it’s a prenup or nothing, for you.

Lesson Two: Commingle your assets.

Considering your lack of a prenup, my advice to you now is to secure some assets for yourself by “commingling.” In effect, commingling assets means mixing joint money, or your personal accounts (for example, what you get from renting your father’s house to those wicked stepsisters of yours) with your husband’s inherited money (the palace bank account). The idea is to make it difficult for Prince Charming’s lawyers to show clear separation of accounts in the court, therefore making a case that the money from said accounts should be split down the middle.

In short: open a joint bank account. Make big financial outlays (country house, jewels, angel investment in a Talking Mouse Circus) using mixed monies. Avoid making big joint purchases from your husband’s inherited funds whenever possible, because you won’t have any claim to those in the divorce. And so on.

Contrary to the widespread belief among legendary damsels in distress, marrying royalty isn’t generally all it’s cracked up to be. Without a prenup, frankly it doesn’t matter that you caught him in three different broom closets with three different scullery maids last year; his pre-marital assets are still likely to stay with him.

Cinderella, you understand the complications of the fairy tale marriage; you, more than anyone, know what it really means to live “happily ever after.” I urge you to take that knowledge, along with your glass slippers and your wits, to the bank.

Respectfully,

James J. Sexton

BuzzFeed took to the streets to ask average Americans their opinion of the candidates and if they could actually remember the names of so many pasty dudes.

Sentence of Marriage (Promises to Keep: Book 1) – Shayne Parkinson

Sentence of Marriage (Promises to Keep: Book 1)

Promises To Keep, no. 1

Shayne Parkinson

Genre: Historical

Publish Date: March 8, 2009

Publisher: Shayne Parkinson

Seller: Smashwords

“I won’t have her forced,” Jack said. “Let her decide for herself.” Amy knew her father meant it. She could say no if she wanted. But this marriage would make everything all right. They could put all the trouble she had caused behind them. Everyone would be happy again. Everyone except her. “Sentence of Marriage” is the first book in the three-volume “Promises to Keep”. In nineteenth century New Zealand, there are few choices for a farm girl like Amy. Her life seems mapped out for her by the time she is twelve. Amy dreams of an exciting life in the world beyond her narrow boundaries. But it is the two people who come to the farm from outside the valley who change her life forever, and Amy learns the high cost of making the wrong choice. "One of the best historical novels I’ve had the pleasure to read in years." – WorkingGirl Reviews. "The story was captivating, the characters real, the dialogue crisp. I admit to having cried and laughed and even having wanted to murder a character and beat another one within an inch of his life — which is simply a testament to how well written these books are." – AmericanEditor.

At Last, Same Sex Marriages How To Keep Your Shoes On And Your Feet Comfortable On Your Wedding Day!

Now that there are same sex marriages more men and women will be walking down the aisle in the hottest and sexiest designer shoes and say “I do” then ever!

The question every women may ask herself before she goes shoe shopping is, do I buy the shoes then the dress or the dress then the shoes? Pumps, Sandals, Peep Toes, open or closed create so many options for brides, what’s a women to do?

For men, trying to find the right tux or suit and shoe style should be less challenging.

Shoe designers such as Manolo Blahnik, Stuart Weitzman, Christian Louboutin, Steve Madden for women and Cole Haan, Calvin Klein, Alfani for men are just a few brands that will be purchased for that special day.

What one does not usually consider is shoe comfort, nobody thinks or cares about will my feet last throughout the entire day without blisters or foot pain except your podiatrist. Well just in case the “bride or groom to be” is interested in being comfortable in his or her shoes on their wedding day, here are a few important tips so you can walk all day and dance all night in comfort.

Regardless of the heel height or style of your shoes you want to try and be as comfortable as possible throughout the entire day. Besides trying to find the most glamorous or stylish wedding shoe, you should make sure the shoe fits properly. There should be at least a thumbs with of room in the toe box of closed shoes between your longest toe (usually the 2nd) and the tip of your shoes. Be careful not to purchase shoes that are too narrow or tight because your feet may swell a bit that day and if you have any lumps or bumps on your feet they can get inflamed or blister. For women who plan to wear sandals with straps make sure they are not going to irritate the front part of your foot especially if you have bunions or hammer toes.

Finding any shoe style that has adequate arch support is virtually impossible so after you purchase your shoes, look for an over the counter arch support that can stick in the arch of any closed or open shoe to provide instant arch support. They should not be bulky or change your shoe size. For women who choose to wear an open sandal type shoe there are products available to provide instant arch support for those too. This type of arch support will take pressure off the ball of the foot, eliminate burning pain on the balls of your feet and cradle the arch to prevent arch cramps or muscle spasms in the bride’s or grooms legs and feet.

Placing a soft insole in your closed shoes will cushion your feet providing instant comfort from heel to toe and reduce foot fatigue and burning.

So at the end of the evening when the shoes come off in your honeymoon suite the only thing you should be using ice for is to chill the Champagne, not your sore feet!

If We’re All About Political Correctness, Why Do We Keep Saying ‘Transgendered’?

When Google autocorrects a term so widely used in media, that should tell you something. When the term is reminiscent of an outdated offensive term to discuss people (see the term: “colored people”), that should also tell you something. That term so widely used today is the term “transgendered.” Transphobic “critics” and allies alike use the term in conversation, and written/spoken media. As a transgender identified teen constantly navigating media in this day and age, the use of the term stings.

Just two weeks ago, I was shocked to see the term in a local news source like Louisville, Kentucky’s LGBT+ friendly LEO Weekly. Ethan Smith’s “15 Years of Pride” article stated: “There was no talk of equal rights, marriage equality, or acceptance of transgendered people.” (17.6.2015, p. 9). In reading about my city’s history of pride celebrations, I was immediately turned off. Why? Leo Weekly has been such an affirming and positive source of news and opinion for individuals like me in the Louisville-metro area, and it still is. But why was I hurt? Well, “Transgendered” implies a past-tense connotation. I am a transgender male. I didn’t just magically “transgender” this way. (To quote Lady Gaga, “Baby, I was BORN this way!”) I did go through an initial transition, but being transgender is a crucial part of my identity that I self-identify and hold on to as coming out helped me gain the confidence I needed to continue in professional and social endeavors in high school and beyond. Being transgender is a part of me and is nothing of the past-tense as it is for many other individuals.

A week after I found the term in local media, I began reading a public policy analysis book by David Rayside called Queer Inclusions, Continental Divisions: Public Recognition of Sexual Diversity in Canada and the United States. Already, on the 6th page, “transgendered” was the catch-all denomination. Seeing such an incorrect and overlooked term amongst heavily researched material was bewildering. I finally got to thinking more about this term’s effects when I began to watch the positive transgender-focused docu-drama on ABC Family, Becoming Us, where the term was used heavily by teenagers dealing with their parent’s gender identities (Episodes 1-4). While this show was supposedly unscripted, I felt like the prior knowledge gained by these individuals and the LGBT positive production company would have lured them away from use of the term. Because of ABC Family’s broad audience, the use of this terminology disappointed me due to the reach of misinformation.
Many of you are probably thinking: If this term is used so much, it must be correct, right? (Even if it does sting) Nope, not at all. First off, the term “transgendered” is grammatically incorrect (and sure enough, as I type this, the term keeps getting underlined in bright red by my word processor). The word “transgender” is an adjective to describe a person or multiple people just as the terms “gay”, “straight”, “male”, and “female” are. You wouldn’t say “The gayed and lesbianed communities celebrated the recent Supreme Court ruling”, would you? Not just that, “transgendered” is not even in the dictionary as a term. The Oxford Dictionary doesn’t list it. I mean, come on now, the word “muggle” is used less, but it’s still in the Oxford dictionary.

So to persons in media and otherwise, do you want to be politically correct, up to date, and inoffensive? Here’s what you can do: use the term “transgender.” You can say “transgender person/people/community/individual/male/female.” So with that: “Casey, a transgender man is now ending his piece for the Huffington Post in hopes that his readers have learned something and will think twice about correct terminology.”

Why Do We Keep Saying ‘I’m Fine’?

Co-authored by Mary Wilson

Beyoncé is a talented multitasker. How do I know this? Who else can sell over 1 million records without an ounce of promotion while at the same time being a mother and wife? Yeah, me either.

Through recent post-Met Gala events recently captured on an elevator security camera and released to the word, we caught a glimpse of the less-than-fabulous part of her life, or maybe just the real part. In the video seen around the world, we witness her younger sister, Solange, attacking and yelling at her husband, Jay Z. A security guard is forced to restrain a clearly enraged Solange, while Beyoncé barely attempts to stop the madness. This altercation ended with Beyoncé leaving the event with her sister, Jay Z taking a separate car, and a barrage of unanswered questions.

But to some, the strangest part of the whole scene wasn’t the brother-in-law/sister-in-law feud but the fact that Beyoncé just stood there. It was the fact that a couple of minutes after the physical fight in the elevator, she walked out like nothing had happened.

In the days following the event, Beyoncé was spotted courtside at a Brooklyn Nets game with her husband, apparently happily in love. I am a huge fan of Beyoncé, but I found it very odd. In the midst of this controversy, she just sat there and pretended that everything was OK? Now let’s be clear: B never said “I’m fine,” but in my opinion, her smile did.

So what is really going on here? Was this just a random family feud that ended with hugs and kisses, or was that video a peek into a larger issue that is cleverly being covered up for the sake of family and image? I think the latter.

In a world where celebrities (and non-celebrities) will sell their souls for a few dollars and Instagram “likes,” Beyoncé has always set herself apart by keeping her private life private. With her fame, her music telling girls to “run the world,” and her participation in campaign initiatives such as “Ban Bossy,” she has aimed to empower women and mothers. With that being said, at what point does keeping her life private and saving face in the midst of turmoil tarnish her message to women?

I believe it does, since it tells women everywhere that no matter how chaotic your life may be, you must act like you got this down — as usual.

As women and mothers, we are expected to deal with issues at home, privately, and never let the world know the truth, for fear of being viewed as weak or imperfect.

Were you too tired to feed your kid that meal of protein and whole-wheat pasta that you promised yourself you would make, so you bought pizza instead?

Did you leave your iPhone on top of the car (again) because your brain isn’t working today? That’s a totally true story, by the way (unfortunately).

Did you go to work and pretend you hadn’t just had a fight with your husband?

Are you seeing a therapist but lying about where you are from 7 to 8 p.m.?

Do you have no problem pretending in public that you don’t care about what you weigh, when in reality every time you take a bite, you think about how you need to stop taking bites?

Why are we like this?

Like it or not, I don’t know why women are shocked. We all do the same thing Beyoncé did. And we do it every day. She has her image, her family and her career to maintain. We’re really not that different. Granted, I don’t get to go on my private yacht all the time, but I digress.

We are constantly surrounded by examples of “perfect” women feeding us false examples that are impossible to achieve. In reality life happens, and life is full of failures and lessons learned. How are we supposed to look up to a celebrity like Beyoncé who brushes these life lessons under the rug and walks away with a forced smile? It’s conflicting that all of us shout “girl power” from the rooftops while simultaneously wearing the same fake smiles.

You know what I would’ve loved? If Beyoncé had gone off herself. If we’d been able to hear that audio. If Beyoncé had cursed out Solange or Jay Z or, better yet, the paparazzi waiting outside!

I would’ve said, “Finally!”

In “Pretty Hurts,” a song on her newest album, Beyoncé sings, “We try to fix something, but you can’t fix what you can’t see. It’s the soul that needs the surgery.” The question is: When do we women drop the façade and admit what’s really wrong?

Granted, in the real world, that might mean addressing a less-than-perfect marriage or a less-than-perfect career or just admitting, “No, everything is not fine, actually.” When was the last time you heard that from a friend? Probably never, because as much as people look on in awe as Beyoncé pretends that everything in her life is fine, most people do the same thing every day, programmed to just keep going and keep smiling.

Why do we all feel like we have to maintain perfection, especially black women? Is it the constant stream of social-media comparisons to keep up with? Is it the fact that we were taught to always hold it together, even when it’s all falling apart?

When do we drop the façade? When do we black women stop thinking that allowing ourselves to feel is weakness? When do we stop saying “I’m fine”?
