Kodak Black, Big K.R.I.T., Method Man & More Drop New Projects [Listen]

Instagram Photo

Since getting out the bing earlier this past summer Kodak Black‘s been out and about trying to do good for himself and people around him.

Today (Dec. 14) the Florida rapper continues his road to redemption by releasing his sophomore album Dying To Live and judging from the fact that it’s 16 cuts deep you know he spent more time in the studio than in the streets to get this one done.

A few weeks ago Big K.R.I.T. issued a “Glorious Challenge” for up and coming artists looking to turn some heads with their rap or singing skills but today the Mississippi rapper comes through with a trey bag to show and prove how potent his own work can be.

Coming back with some new work for his Shaolin fans and followers, Method Man returns with a brand new LP in Meth Lab 2: The Lithium. Featuring other OG MC’s such as Snoop Dogg, Redman and Sheek Louch along with fellow Killer Bees like Raekwon, Masta Killah and Cappadonna, the 15-track album is bound to give you all the feels of the mid and late 90’s.

YFN Lucci dropped a new EP titled 3: Future.

Happy Birthday DJ Premier: 20 Of Preem’s Top Joints [LISTEN]

City Parks Foundation SummerStage Presents Rock Steady Crew 40th Anniversary

Source: Brad Barket / Getty

Without a doubt, DJ Premier sits near the top of the greatest Hip-Hop producers and beatmakers of all time. Gaining fame as the chief soundman behind the legendary Gang Starr crew with late frontman Keith “Guru” Elam, they remain one of the most potent Hip-Hop duos of all time. We take a look back to salute DJ Premier on his born day, and listed out 20 of our favorite Preem joints.

Premier, born Christopher Edward Martin, was born in Houston, Texas and raised in the town of Prarie View. The son of educators and the grandson of a jazz musician, Premier discovered a love of Hip-Hop in the late ’70’s although his musical palette was wide due to the influence of older siblings and his parents. In the mid-eighties, Preem dropped out of Prarie View A&M University where he began as a party DJ and moved to Brooklyn, New York. It was there the former Waxmaster C was discovered by Wild Pitch boss Stu Fine, who then connected him with Guru, a rapper that hailed from Boston and the rest is history as they say.

Between 1989 and 2003, DJ Premier and Guru together as Gang Starr enrichened the Hip-Hop landscape with Preem crafting a signature, boom-bap style that has been often imitated over the decades. Along with his precision scratching ability, hard drums, and jazzy sample chops, Hip-Hop fans from around the world came to regard the Texas by way of Brooklyn producer as one of the vanguards in the rise of traditional East Coast Hip-Hop.

This would lead to a bevy of production credits that date back to the nineties with the likes of Lord Finesse, Ice-T, Heavy D, KRS-One, and Mobb Deep among others benefiting from his sound. He also lent his hand to Nas on the Queens veteran’s debut album Illmatic and produced Jeru Da Damaja’s The Sun Rises In The East while also giving Group Home a boost on Livin’ Proof. Preem’s tracks also graced Jay-Z’s debut album Reasonable Doubt and gave weight to some of the strongest cuts from The Notorious B.I.G.’s posthumous Life After Death double album.

Rakim, Janet Jackson, O.C., D’Angelo, M.O.P., Fat Joe, Brand Nubian, Rah Digga, J-Live and even Limp Bizkit all released work over Premier’s handiwork. Newer artist such as  Joey BadA$ $ , Skyzoo, Torae, Rapsody, Termanology and many more are still getting Preemo bangers. And with his group Prhyme with Detroit wordsmith Royce Da 5’9, now on their second project, it’s clear that DJ Premier still has plenty left in the tank.

Hit the following pages to check out 20 of our favorite all-time DJ Premier classics. Look, we’re surely going to miss some gems so sound off in the comments section and let us know what deserves mention. Who knows, we might just add it.

Salute to the great DJ P-P-P-P-Premier!

Lupe Fiasco Responds To The Game’s “Dollar & A Dream” Jab, Again [LISTEN]

The Game just released the second installment to his Documentary 2 album series but its the first disc that still is being centered in controversy.

While speaking with Letty Martinez on her podcast LettySetGo, the West Coast all-star was asked the reasoning for calling Lupe Fiasco “weird” on his song “Dollar & a Dream” record and he was very blunt about it.

“He is f*cking weird,” he replied. “Thing is, you obviously can’t have the old Game. I was 23-years-old. I was baldhead then. If you talking about the old Game, what’s in my heart and what my music is, I’m currently fighting three court cases, criminal. I’m currently still in the hood. My grandfather died today. My brother Big Fase still lives on Black Wall Street. So when you say the old Game and you make it seem like I’m not the old Game, you’re disrespecting the makeup of me and who I am and you’re playing yourself.”

After getting wind of the track, Lupe responded to his rapper peer on Twitter with a link to Oasis’ “Wonderwall” video, which addressed being the outcast in the room. The truth of the matter is, Game understands Lupe’s stance, even if he can’t identify with it.

“Personally, on the Lupe front, maybe I might be lost now or maybe Lupe is just evolving and Game can’t see it,” he continued. “I miss the old Lupe records when it was about Chi-Town and it was hood and maybe I’m being what I’m telling other people not to be. But that’s just being a fan of music. Some people evolve and you are able to embrace it. Then other people evolve and you get mad. That’s why when some people might be like, ‘Game, you changed’ or ‘I like the old Game,’ you might be what I’m being when I say I like the old Lupe. At the end of the day it’s being a Hip-Hop fan and being critical and wanting the music that you want.”

Once again, Lupe took to his Twitter soapbox to let Game know that he prefered a bevy of other adjectives opposed to “weird.”

The Documentary 2 and 2.5 are currently on iTunes, folks. Listen to Letty’s convo with Chuck Taylor below. You can see more of Lupe’s response on the next page.

Action Bronson Sued For Uncleared Salsa Samples [LISTEN]

Action Bronson has had a year worth forgetting but the dark cloud hasn’t left from over his hulking frame just yet.

Pioneering Salsa group El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico is dragging the native New Yorker to court because his love for their music allegedly didn’t match the intergrity of sample clearance procedures. A couple of tracks from his earlier projects, Bon Appetit ….. Bitch and the initial installment of Blue Chips are named in the suit.

Reports TMZ:

Action Bronson’s big appetite for Latin music is coming back to haunt him … he’s being sued for allegedly ripping off 2 tracks by Puerto Rican salsa legends El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico.

The owners of El Gran Combo’s songs “Falsaria” and “Trampolin” say the tracks were sampled without permission on Bronson’s songs “Mofongo” and “Tapas.”

They say Bronson even admitted on Twitter in 2011 he sampled “Falsaria” and single out a 2014 Inquisitor interview where the Queens rapper gushed, “I like to cook to Spanish and Latin music. If you’re in the kitchen … I’d suggest bands like El Gran Cambo de Puerto Rico.”

They bring up his affinity for naming songs after food dishes … “Mofongo,” is also the name of a popular Puerto Rican dish.

They claim Bronson has made and is still making bank off the plagiarism because the tracks are still all over music platforms. The owners want Bronson to stop distribution and pay them damages.

Listen to “Mofongo” vs. “Falsaria” right down below. “Tapas” and “Trampolin” can be found on the next page.

AR-Ab Drops Fiery Meek Mill Diss Over Drake’s “Back To Back” Instrumental [LISTEN]

Meek Mill called AR-Ab a d*ck rider because he dared to speak his mind. Now the Philly rapper and known street dude has responded with a fiery diss track over Drake’s “Back To Back” instrumental.

This all started when Drizzy rapped, “I waited four days, ni**a, where y’all at?/I drove here in the Wraith playin’ AR-Ab” on his “Back To Back” diss aimed at Meek Mill.

Then Vlad TV asked AR-Ab about the situation and he basically said Meek needed to step his game up.

Clearly anything but praise is taken as hate by Meek Mill, so he proceeded to called AR a “d*ck rider” while performing in Camden, NJ (which is just outside of Philly) on Thursday night (August 6).

When AR-Ab got wind of Meek’s comments, he initially took to Twitter to respond, saying “I just hope ni**as can stand behind they words.”

Rather than rely on his Twitter fingers, AR dropped a diss track, and it’s actually has its moments.

“Why you diss me, need to diss Drake/That ni**a killed you, first 48,” spits Ar.

Listen below. Meek keeps invited the drama to his doorstep, doesn’t he? As for what Meek’s up to, hit the flip.

Drake Fires Back At Meek Mill With “Charged Up” Diss Song [LISTEN]

Meek Mill gave everyone a reason to tune into Drake’s OVO Radio this week and the Canadian all-star did not disappoint.

After being accused of being a rapper fraud, Drizzy debuted “Charged Up,” a stinging warning shot that should be just the beginning of a new rapper war.

“I did some charity today for the kids/ But I’m used to it cause y’all charity cases/ Six God is watching, I’m just hoping you prepared to face him. “Ni***s snitching on us without no interrogation/ I stay silent ‘cause we at war and I’m very patient/ Six God is watching, I just hope you’re prepared to face him/ I’m charged up, i’m charged up.”

And then he teases Meek about the stalling sales of his Dreams Worth More Than Money album and newfound popularity being on Nicki Minaj’s side.

“I see you n***as having trouble going gold/Turning into some so-and-so’s that no one no knows/But so it goes/Come and live all your dreams in OVO…No woman ever had me star struck/ Or was able to tell me to get my bars up/ I’m charged up.”

Drake also went the slick route to mention DJ Clue “dropping bombs,” seeing that he has a new foe in Funk Flex.

Y’all other radio TV and bloggers watch this close… If he writes himself then he deserves an apology… If he doesn’t write then he’s a fucking FRAUD!!! That means them emotions ain’t his…. That means what u claiming is story book…And if this industry is ok with that I understand stand… But where I fucking come from that’s means you a great record maker but NOT a great lyricist!!!!! There’s a fucking difference if you claiming king!!! Dr Dre never wrote but we love him the same… But there’s a place for that type of rapper!!! You don’t get mentioned with the greatest!!!! So for people who say it doesn’t matter your wrong !!!! To a lyricist it’s everything…. @champagnepapi”

And then, like manna bread from the heaven’s above, Quentin Miller’s reference track for “10 Bands” from the If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late mixtape dropped into the veteran DJ’s lap.

“I got this from someone in Drake’s camp,” Flex said. “They reached out. They saw me keeping it 100.” Quentin Miller allegedly gets paid $ 5,000 a month to be on call to pen the hot fire.

Does this change your opinion of Drake now that Quentin Miller appears to be “The Man?” Sound off in the comment section, por favor.

Listen to Young Thug’s “I Need Chickens”

Whenever Young Thug works with Mike Will Made It, the results usually lead to a banger with that odd twist to it. That is exactly what “I Need Chickens” is. Mike Will’s production is constant with a West Coast like undertone, but Thugga’s raps adds a psychedelic tone to the song. Check out “I Need Chickens” below.
