On the run from her cold-hearted husband, Catherine Crocker witnesses a daring train robbery. The robbers are forced to take her prisoner, riding deep into untamed territory pursued by a posse led by a determined Wells Fargo agent – and Catherine's husband. A stellar cast powers this sweeping, elegiac ode to the West. Burt Reynolds plays gang leader Jay, a laconic war hero with a mysterious past. Sarah Miles is Catherine, first repelled by her captors but gradually growing to respect, then trust, then love Jay. With a stirring John Williams score, dead-on direction by Richard C. Sarafian (Man in the Wilderness), and cinematography so realistic you can taste the dust and sweat, The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing emerges as one of film's great Westerns.

The Theology of Spirit Day: As LGBTQ People, We Are All Loved By God

2015-10-15-1444919994-302499-purplelamp.jpg

Yesterday was Spirit Day. I looked at myself in the mirror as I tied my purple necktie daintily. It was the only piece of purple clothing I own. I remembered when I was in high school and used to conduct this same tie-tying ritual every morning, albeit more sloppily. I wore a purple tie back then too, but it was part of my uniform, not a personal statement.

Back when I was in high school, I was bullied and harassed for practically every aspect of my identity. I was, and still am, skinny, so I was referred to as a “stick”. My high voice, cracking with anxiety, was a constant source of amusement for my classmates. I dreaded having to answer a question or give presentations, because every sound I made resulted in laughter from everyone around me. As one of few Latinos in my school, I was called “illegal”, “wetback”, and told to “go back to Mexico”. What I remember most vividly, though, is how much pain I went through because of my sexual orientation.

I went to an all-boys, Catholic high school. Every day, every class even, began with prayer and we were ushered to Mass every month. Our principal reminded us daily that we were all family, all ‘brothers in Christ’. Yet, that fraternity seemed to only apply to certain people. I distinctly remember during class one day in my freshman year, someone asked my theology teacher about the Church’s position on gay people. Red in the face and practically shaking with anger, he questioned why those people were “even allowed to exist”. I sank into my seat and wanted desperately to disappear, because my very existence had just been deemed unworthy of God’s love.

When I was later outed in my junior year, things only got worse. I was once openly referred to as a faggot in the classroom while my teacher looked on, not bothering to say a word. I was called fag, fairy, homo– every name in the book. I was pushed into lockers. I had vile things written about me in the school bathrooms. I was once followed out the library and punched in the face because I dared to wear a rainbow wristband. I wanted to drop out.

I contemplated suicide a lot during this time. I am certain that if it weren’t for the small band of friends and supportive teachers that I had, I would not be sharing this story with you right now. I am thankful for their love and courage every day. It truly saved me during the darkest times of my life.

As I put my tie on yesterday morning, I remembered all of this pain, and I thought of all the LGBTQ youth out there that suffer in silence in their schools, just as I did. Many of them are still being taught, explicitly or otherwise, that their relationships are inferior or that their lifestyles are “sinful”. I think particularly of the trans* and GNC students that are constantly misgendered by their teachers or are policed every time they need to use the bathroom, changing room, and so on. My heart breaks every time I read another story of an LGBTQ teen who is thrown out from their home, or has to fight school administrators just to receive an education free from harassment, or worse, ends their life. I wish I could hug each one of them and tell them how beautiful and special they are.

For me, there is a theology of Spirit Day. It isn’t ‘turn the other cheek’ as my Christian neighbors say. For me, the spirituality of Spirit Day is resting in the truth that, as LGBTQ people, we are all loved by a Power higher than ourselves. Human beings may try to impose limits on that love but ultimately they fail–how can something infinite like the love of God have conditions? This love provides for us in every respect, protecting us and sheltering us at all times. Although this world is full of hatred and violence, we should, as Swami Vivekananda put it, “always say, ‘I have no fear’,” because God’s love is looking after us at every moment.

It is by remembering divine love that I feel empowered to continue fighting for LGBTQ youth everywhere. On Spirit Day, my prayer was that all of those kids know that God loves you–and I love you–just as you are. When you saw someone wearing purple, I hope you remembered that love.

Keke Palmer’s Deep Purple Lipstick, And More Celebrity Beauty Looks We Loved This Week

It’s pretty mindblowing to see some of our favorite child stars all grown up. Case in point: Keke Palmer.

The actress and singer has come a long way since her breakthrough role in 2006’s “Akeelah and the Bee.” After adding several movie and TV credits to her resumé, Palmer is now sporting a more mature, yet sophisticated look these days.

She topped our best beauty look this week with the deep purple lipstick she wore for Entertainment Weekly’s 2015 Comic-Con party. The sultry lip color perfectly matched her eggplant Georges Chakra cutout jumpsuit, and the rich hue added just enough color to stand out against her jet black hair.

Find out how to copy Palmer’s beautiful purple lipstick look below, and see which other stars made this week’s best beauty list.

Chrissy Teigen’s Slicked-Back Hair And More Celebrity Looks We Loved This Week

After finally getting into a summer workout groove, the HuffPost Lifestyle editors have been discussing ways to wear our hair when it’s not completely dry. Thankfully, we’ve got plenty of “wet hair” inspiration from the celebrities who topped this week’s beauty list.

Lily Collins styled her growing-out pixie in a sleek and sexy ‘do for the Lancôme 80th Anniversary Party during Paris Couture Fashion Week. Both Jessica Alba and Irina Shayk kept it simple on the red carpet with center-parted and gelled strands. Meanwhile, Chrissy Teigen played with dual textures by smoothing down the crown of her “bronde” locks and keeping the long layers in the back soft and flowy.

See these slicked-back hairstyles below, plus our tips and product recommendations to help you recreate the looks. Then tell us which star gets your vote for best beauty look.

9 Things We Loved from Russian Fashion Week: Who to Know, Where to Shop, and More

Fashion Week Russia

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia isn’t just a runway full of duds from the USSR. Neither is it the logomania kitsch that flooded Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union in the early nineties. Instead, it’s a developing hub for small designers as well as off-the-beaten-path concept stores. And this season, it wasn’t the loud and bold that reigned the Fashion Week—up-close-and-personal presentations by labels like ZDDZ and J.Kim were favorite breakout stars, while stores like the charming INDEXflat and too-hip Kuznetsky Most 20 were havens for shopping. Here, see the best designers and shopping sites from the Eastern empire—it’s hardly your babushka’s wardrobe.

1. ZDDZ gives a taste of Russian #TBT

Already a burgeoning international success, VFiles graduate Dasha Selyanova of ZDDZ took her collection back to the motherland, this time with a touch of the tongue-in-cheek references that Muscovite cool kids love: JNCO-sized wide-leg trousers with metallic patchwork (influenced by Selyanova’s time as a member of a rap group in nineties Saint Petersburg), as well as oversize blazers and parochial-style skirts reminiscent of school uniforms.

2. Eastern Promises at J.Kim

Born in Uzbekistan to Korean emigrants, Moscow-based Jenia Kim translates her heritage into her designs. Next Paris Fashion Week, expect to see several Muscovite It girls donning Kim’s coats dotted with delicate but contrasting embroideries of Korean characters and petals, as well as dresses with hand-sewn illustrations of traditional Korean dancers.

3. Cap America: From the Easel to the People

Though she began her career as an abstract artist, Olia Shurygina started her own label Cap America after she wanted to bring her creations from the easel to the people. There are plenty of asymmetrical slip dresses and staple coats in a Pop Art–friendly color wheel of primary colors.

Ukrainian designer Yasya Minochkina has been busy—fresh from a show for Mercedes-Benz Kiev Fashion Days, Minochkina jetted off to present in Moscow. And the designer brought the whirlwind to her collection, too, with pattern-heavy trouser suits and eco-leather coats glazed in cotton candy hues.

Georgian designer Ria Keburia expanded on the future-meets–French revolution theme at her presentation, collaborating with Dimitri Shabalin for a bevy of Robocop-inspired masks bejeweled with pearls, children’s toys, and watch faces that we seriously want to borrow for our next masquerade ball.

7. A Seriously Good Concept (Store)

Don’t want to shop at a knock-off-ridden bazaar or a crowded shopping center in Moscow? Head over to Kuznetsky Most 20, or KM20, a concept store run by It girl Olga Karput. It’s a haven for labels like Hood By Air, Jacquemus, and Ashish. But it’s not just the Western imports—KM20 is also one of the biggest supporters of motherland designers like Gosha Rubchinskiy, ZDDZ, Walk of Shame, Tigran Avetisyan, and Nina Donis. (And the best part? If you’re hungry after all that shopping, you can grab a vegan-friendly dish or a cold-pressed juice at the café.)

Plus, you’ll be able to see the clothes in action—INDEXflat owner Anka Tsitsishvili is the shop’s best advertisement, often photographed wearing the pieces she stocks during Paris Fashion Week.

Ultra Music Festival 2015: The People And Outfits We Loved (NSFW PHOTOS)

Crazy outfits, neon, and a definite excess of exposed skin are staples of the 3-day electronic music rager down in Miami.

It’s the 17th year of the Ultra Music Festival which has attracted the high profile talents of Tiesto, Avicii, Alesso, Nicky Romero, Paul Van Dyk, Bassnectar, David Guetta, and Skrillex. Up-and-comers like Goldfish, Kygo, and Klingade are set to take over the scene and hypnotize the crowd with their melodic beats and cascading sounds of pianos, saxophones and xylophones.

The entire gamet of the electronic dance music genre is covered, from trance to dubstep, tropical house to deep house, trap to techno. With such an impressive lineup and range of artists, EDM and festival fans flock to Miami’s Bayfront Park for the 3-day festival that attracts over 150,000 people with crunchy beats, mind-numbing light shows and non-stop dancing.

Fashion standards for the weekend include crazy wigs and edible jewelry, and attracts more neon than a 711 sign does to a fly. Some of our favorites include the iconic Nintendo characters of Mario & Luigi, a cat on a moped, and lots of national pride.

Cara and Kendall Hit the Bar at Chanel, and More Things We Loved at Paris Fashion Week

Photo: Courtesy of @virginiafsmith

Today will go down in fashion history as Zoolander takeover day, but the epic stunt wasn’t the only thing that caught our eye. What with the brasserie-cum-runway at Chanel, where models like Cara Delevingne nibbled on olives and sipped on freshly pressed grapefruit juice, the morning was off to a flying start. And it ended on a high note too, with McQueen’s pretty-in-pink lace dresses. See these moments and more in our daily roundup.

1. Cara and Kendall hit the bar at Chanel: Each season, Karl Lagerfeld transforms the Grand Palais for Chanel’s show, and today guests were invited into a French brasserie. Party-loving models like Cara Delevingne and Kendall Jenner took a seat at the bar on the runway after Lagerfeld’s finale lap.

2. Say my name: High-waisted and a perfect shade of indigo blue, the jeans as Vanessa Seward’s debut presentation were devoid of logos, but did come with the names of the models embroidered on the back pocket. And that’s reason to snap a belfie if ever there was one.

3. Red-carpet wins: With so many designers focusing their efforts on daywear, it was refreshing to see the parade of gorgeous evening dresses at Valentino. The long-sleeved, floor-sweeping looks will make for a chic alternative to the barely there red-carpet style favored in Hollywood.

4. Strategic lace: There have been countless sheer looks on the runway this season, but few designers have answered the question of what one wears underneath quite as beautifully as Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton. Kanye’s Big Performance and More Things We Loved at Paris Fashion Week

Photo: Courtesy of Deborah Enkaoua / @deborahenkaoua

Kanye West would be the first to say that fashion and music are easy bedfellows, and tonight he underscored that assumption with his concert at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, the first in a series of performances to run between now and the end of Paris Fashion Week. But let’s back up a bit for a second, and recap the runway happenings that hit a high note on the schedule today. First up, Junya Watanabe’s new collection, which showed this morning, was a gorgeous study in stylish geometry, and then there was designer Guillaume Henry’s highly anticipated debut for Nina Ricci at the end of the day. See all the moments that topped our agenda in the roundup below.

1. Kanye takes center stage: The Fondation Louis Vuitton has played host to art exhibitions and fashion shows alike, but today it was Kanye West who rocked the building with the first in a series of charity concerts happening now through the end of Paris Fashion Week.

2. Tagging is chic: Besides all the eye-catching clothes we saw at Junya Watanabe’s show this morning, one thing that turned heads was the curlicue graffiti inked on the models’ arms and legs.

3. Shine bright like a diamond: Our new favorite party dress showed up at the runway at Nina Ricci today—and it was truly hard to miss. In fact, even just beginning to imagine how many sequins made up the sparkling red holographic look is more than our little fashion-obsessed minds can muster.

4. Gladiator gone brogue: Robert Clergerie has always been a safe haven for women who love a flat shoe, and today its gladiator sandal brogue hybrid was yet another reason for us to stay on a stylish even keel.

5. Up, up, and away: With a room jammed with party balloons and a new collaboration with Colette-approved artist Darcel for fall, the Ç x Façonnable presentation was cause for showgoers to be cheerful.

Gaga Goes Brunette for Balenciaga and More Things We Loved at Paris Fashion Week

Lady Gaga brunette

With Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Maison Margiela on the schedule, it’s safe to say that today was one for the fashion heavy-hitters. That’s not to say that certain showgoers didn’t get their fair share of the spotlight, and after yesterday’s dramatic hair transformations (if you hadn’t already heard, Jared Leto and Kim Kardashian West are officially twinning), Lady Gaga flipped the script and went from blonde to brunette in time for Balenciaga’s show. See all the moments that topped our agenda in the roundup below.

1. Gaga goes brunette: Do blondes have more fun? Well, if Lady Gaga is anything to go by, than perhaps not. She bucked the current trend for goldie locks, showing up to Balenciaga with her hair dyed brunette, and slicked back in a tight bun just like the models on the runway.

2. Good things come in small packages: We’ve been coveting the handbags of Belgium leather goods house Delvaux for what seems like eons, and this season our little hearts were taken by their tiniest of tiny new purses.

3. The bomber gets super fancy: Ever seen a bomber jacket with its own velvet train? Us neither—until we laid eyes on the one shown at Undercover this afternoon. Finally a jacket that cool girls can take to the party.

4. It’s just an illusion: There was lots to love in Loewe’s new collection, but the optic art miniskirts in eye-catching colors rank pretty high on our wish list for fall.

5. Lanvin forever: During Fashion Week, it’s always new, new, new all the time, but the opening of the Jeanne Lanvin exhibit at the Palais Galleria tonight was a reminder that looking back can sometimes be just as thrilling as looking forward.

Kim Kardashian and Jared Leto Go Blonde on Blonde at Balmain (and More Things We Loved at Paris Fashion Week Today)

Photo: Courtesy of Getty Images

From the successful early morning debut of the new Carven designers, Alexis Martial and Adrien Caillaudaud, to a new line of Le Smokings for It girls the world over, with a major Kardashian moment and, of course, some major fashion in between, here are the best bits from our agendas today at Paris Fashion Week.

1. RACIL: a new take on an old look for It girls everywhere. Racil Chalhoub’s new concept line of Le Smokings and tuxedo shirts may be made entirely in Paris, but its sensibility is distinctly international: With three silhouettes, ranging from palazzo to cigarette pants, some with pink silk tuxedo stripes, some studded with multicolored crystals, and an overall aim to avoid stiffness at any cost, it’s one heck of a decidedly useful debut.

2. Blonde ambition at Balmain and beyond: After spotting Kanye at Dries Van Noten yesterday, we were sure that his better half wasn’t far behind, and she did not disappoint! Debuting a new peroxide blonde slicked-back do and body-conscious black dress, no less! Add one also recently cropped and also very blonde Jared Leto and you’ve got a whole new take on Blonde on Blonde.

3. Most unlikely front-row fashion twinning: Mos Def and Rick Owens, anyone? The pair was sporting the same laceless sneaker-style sock boot today, from opposite sides of the latter’s runway show this afternoon.

4. The winter boot we want now: A rubber treaded sole (so winter storm–appropriate!) in trademark Louboutin red? Sign us up.

Is That You, Margot Tenenbaum? 5 Things We Loved Today at Milan Fashion Week

Photo: Courtesy of Karlie Kloss / @karliekloss

It was the chic version of move-in day at Milan Fashion Week, with press appointments revealing both Agnona’s new digs and Paula Cademartori’s
jewel box of an HQ, with the fashion set taking in Giambattista’s latest scene, tallying up The Royal Tenenbaums references and taking in the always glamorous Versace show. Here are all the best bits from our agendas.

1. Agnona’s housewarming party: Sleek new offices and an intensely chic take on outerwear—from tailored overcoats, tunics, and waistcoats to a new take on tweedy English toppers, here done in a Prince of Wales check and Shetland tweed double cashmere—made Agnona a very welcome stop this morning.

2. Giamba gets groovy: Giambattista Valli unleashed his psychedelic baby dolls in the middle of Milan this afternoon with a giddy, girlish runway show (the temporary face tattoos sported by the girls were less Charles Manson than one might have imagined) that was one part Janis Joplin, one part Fifty Shades of Grey (hello, leather harnesses!).

3. Rainbow’s End at Marco de Vincenzo: Marco de Vincenzo’s fall 2015 show took place in the Teatro Franco Parenti, with a glass-fronted set (all the better to build the anticipation!) created by the artist Patrizio Travagli, and it felt both uber-hip and entirely perfect for his latest buzzy offering: from sleek, slinky lurex looks in rainbow tones looks to imminently covetable footwear (chunky boots came with thickly braided heels, bicolored heel versions called to mind the uber-chic equestrian and strappy stiletto sandals with that same braided velvet; a good night out).

4. The Margot Tenenbaum movement picks up steam: From Alessandro Michele’s beret-clad Gucci girls to Veronica Etro’s mink intarsia wrappers, it’s been a full-on Milanese lovefest for the Wes Anderson–created Margot Tenenbaum. Bally had its own take on the Gwyneth Paltrow character, imagined at its presentation as sporting an electric purple moto jacket. (And can’t you just see it?)

5. Versace goes viral: With an intricate set—a metal grid of its iconic insignias disguised a pair of staircases through which models entered to some
catwalking heavy hitters (Natasha Poly, Karlie Kloss) and a series of final looks encrusted with all the makings of a Twitter trending topic (hashtags, “@” signs, et al)—Versace’s runway show was very wham, bam, thank-you-ma’am glam: and decidedly meant for the modern era.

Proenza Schouler’s Abstract Black Eyeliner and Sporty Headbands: The Beauty Look We Loved Today

Photographed by Kevin Tachman

The Proenza Schouler woman has always been pretty particular about her beauty routine.  She knows what she likes: namely, clean skin, no frills, and the undone downtown hair to match. For fall, however, designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez took their girl on a day trip to the museum—The Whitney, to be exact, which showed its last uptown exhibition in October in anticipation of its move to the Meatpacking district in Lower Manhattan this spring. Back home again, and feeling inspired by a spin through its abstract expressionist works, she dipped into a bold new makeup palette: “They’re still the [Proenza] girls,” backstage pro Diane Kendal said, referencing the look of models like Liya Kibede and Binx Walton, who boasted the same clean skin and muted lips of years past. But this season, Kendal was adding a surprising element to the face in the form of a painterly swipe of MAC Chromacake in Black, which she applied with her ring finger in a single smudge from the inner corners outward along the lid.

“I’m just dipping my finger in water first,” Kendal continued of the obsidian watercolor effect, which she was perfecting herself on each individual model. “[Jack and Lazaro] wanted to push the look a little this season,” she explained of the directive from McCollough and Hernandez, which also made its way to hairstylist Anthony Turner. “I’m using a lot of product,” Turner laughed of the layers of Bumble & Bumble Prep, Thickening Hairspray, Surf Spray, and CitySwept Finish Spray to create a “kind of punk, very matte, and very anarchic” texture. Just before they took the runway, he made use of another kind of wide black line altogether by positioning a thick fabric headband low across the forehead. Perfect for urban girls about to embark on an afternoon of gallery hopping—or a late night of clubbing.

Taylor Swift Fan Recreated Every Single Polaroid From ‘1989’ — And T-Swift LOVED It

One Florida teen just took T-Swift fandom to the next level. Nadia Afkhami recreated every Polaroid from Taylor Swift’s “1989” album. It’s literally spot on.

After Nadia posted the photos on her Tumblr, nitemaredressedlikeadaydream.tumblr.com, T-Swift replied with some major Internet <3. Tay posted a note to Nadia on Tumblr, and it’s just as sweet as can be:

After she won Tay’s heart, the inevitable Internet bullies came a-trolling. In an email to The Huffington Post, Nadia explained that she started receiving hurtful comments about her photos. So, Nadia stood up to the haters — the T-Swift way. She wrote on Tumblr:

“Some people commented on the articles that the pictures are the “fat Taylor version” LOL. I mean yea obviously! I will never have Taylor’s body type. And that’s ok. Creativity and beauty don’t have a size. Y’all be any size you want! Haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate.”

Damn straight.

He Said He Loved Me…

2014-12-19-computerheart.jpg

He said he loved me. In a text. And I cried.

I was sitting in the backseat of a taxi, on my way to the airport, when I received the text. I had texted him an hour earlier, “Happy birthday!!!! I hope you have a great day and a terrific birthday. Love you. Xo”

It’s funny, sometimes I’m able to write, “I love you”, with a firm, and confident, “I”, other times, the “I” feels heavy handed, like a big dramatical declaration. To simply write, “love you”, takes some of the pressure off of the recipient to respond in kind. Or so I think. Who the f’ knows? It’s a friggin’ text.

Many years ago, I told a former boyfriend that I loved him over the phone. We had been dating for several months and I was bursting at the seams. I couldn’t wait until the next time that we were together to share my feelings, so I did it over the phone.

I prefaced my impending admission with a, “I’m not asking you to respond. You don’t have to say a word, it’s just that I’m going to explode if I don’t tell you.”

I thought it was romantic. I’m not sure what he thought. The beauty was that it didn’t matter. I wasn’t expecting a response, nor did I need one. I took responsibility for my feelings, and that meant sharing my happiness. His response wasn’t going to influence me either way. And it didn’t.

It was important to me then, as it is today, to say things when you have the chance, even if it opens yourself up to heart break and ache.

This, “love you” came from that former boyfriend’s son.

It was the first time reading those words from him, and it pierced my heart. There’s much that I don’t know about him, (what’s going on in that head) as I’m sure is normal with any 16-year old boy, and there’s much that I miss out on, so everything that he says or does comes as a surprise to me.

It’s still painful not being in his life the way that I used to be. Therefore, what I receive from him and his sister, carries more weight, packs a punch, and has a profound impact on me because of our arrangement.

Such was his beautiful text.

I had text, “love you” many times in the past, without a mirrored response; never expecting, never needing one. So it was reading this text, in the back seat of a taxi, on my way to the airport, that my heart swelled, my eyes pooled with tears, and I smiled.

Because he said he loved me.
