The whole world changed the day you realized you could hook up your record turntable to a cassette deck and make a tape compilation of your favorite music. When that tape became portable via boomboxes and Walkmen, those mixes became the soundtrack to your life. At some point, we called them "mixtapes" and we began making piles of them for ourselves and our friends/boyfriends/girlfriends/etc. As Nick Hornby wrote in "High Fidelity," making a mixtape was "like writing a letter." It was a unique, handmade form of communication throughout the 1980s and into the '90s. And if you were making one during that era, you probably couldn't finish without including a track from one or more of the following artists.

As the title implies, tracks on this project are comprised of leaked material from previous G.O.O.D. If you have been keeping up with your Drizzy timesheet, you will know that the e-streets have been salivating with anticipation over the release of his mixtape with Future.
Now that it has been officially confirmed, the details are slowly being rolled out inch by inch. So, gather ’round hustlers, that’s if you’re still living, because the tape now has a due date, an album cover (not the codeine-covered owl that has maneuvered through the Internets these past few days) and a title.
What A Time To Be Alive.
Drake recently let loose an Instagram post revealing that he has his Free Bandz compadre plan to make this a full-blown event that should rival attention spans towards the return of the NFL.
What A Time To Be Alive will be released tomorrow, September 20 via Apple Music (of course!) at 8 p.m. EST.
As for the album cover, it’s simply a close-up shot of a batch of flawlessly cut diamonds. Hopefully the music matches the photo.

So the Migos’ studio debut album, YRN: The Album, didn’t exactly meet its goals as planned.
None the matter; since God is blessing all the trap ninjas, the ability to create a mixtape is easier than ever.
And that’s where the Back To The Bando mixtape comes in. The fifteen-track offering boosted by production from the likes of Drumma Boy and Zaytoven has a much more consistent stride in terms of song structure than the aforementioned LP.
Longtime fans need not fret, either. The incarcerated Offset is very much a part of this release.

Hip-Hop’s most enigmatic, or downright strangest, rapper Young Thug drops his new mixtape, Slime Season.

New Orleans rapper Dee-1 first rose to national prominence when he openly called out then rap game leaders Jay Z, 50 Cent and Lil Wayne to step up do more for the community in a clever record titled “Jay, 50, and Weezy.” Now as a signed RCA Records artist, he planned to nudge the latter rap legend a little further with the new Separated At Birth mixtape where he flipped several popular Lil Wayne beats and turned them into socially conscious songs where as the original recordings were anything but.
Yet, as fate would have it, Cash Money lawyers are an army, better yet a navy, and just as today’s September 15 release date approached, Dee-1 got hit with a cease and desist. All the anticipation built with the track, “Call Ya Bluff” was seemingly in vain.
He released a statement explaining to the fans the magnitude of the situation, where hollow threats and legal action can be perceived.
“I’d like to apologize to all the fans. This is a project that was needed in hip hop and i was excited to give it to you all. All i can say is that 1. this industry is truly crazy smh, 2. some bold actions have taken place behind the scenes, and 3. some people fear what the truth sounds like. Trust me, if no one threatened legal recourse, I would still drop it because I worked hard on this and i think this music would bless all who hear it, and add a much-needed perspective to hip hop. The topic of my personal safety was also brought up to be honest, but truthfully God has me covered so I was neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever worried about that. Until further notice, the#SeparatedAtBirth mixtape has been BANNED. Unfortunately, i need for orangemixtapes.com to not post the mixtape as of now until things clear up. Sorry for the wait.” – @Dee1music

The rising Harlem rapper Dave East announces a new mixtape Hate Me Now as the follow-up to last year’s breakthrough tape Black Rose. Coming to you on 10/2, Hate Me Now features collaborations with Nas, Pusha T, Jadakiss, Styles P, Mack Wilds, Rico Love and more. Today, Dave East drops the first track off of HMN, titled “Demons”:
As Nas labeled as the next best thing, Dave East is striving to become a staple within New York’s new school of hip hop — and this is only the beginning.
“Black Rose was really personal to me, it made people pay attention but it was a certain moment in my life. Hate me nowis a celebration for what’s to come, a celebration for where I aspire to go with my career & the things I’ve gone through to get here. It’s definitely a transitional piece in my journey. Hate me now while you can.” — Dave East
If the rumors indeed pan out, the alleged Drake and Future mixtape may be the biggest musical release since Kanye West’s Gradution; or Jay Z’s The Blueprint if it turns out to be the classic everybody hopes it to be.
Much like he did with If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, the Canadian all-star is giving the world little time to prep for his bombshell of a release. And much like the aforementioned platinum-selling mixtape, DJ Skee has hinted at the Drake and Future mixtape’s existence, so if it magically lands in your lap in the next 24 hours, just remember we told you not be surprised.

Lupe Fiasco dropped a surprise mixtape Saturday (August 29th) that totaled 6 songs and has no features. The King Tut themed art plays out on the cover as a pixilated close up of a digitized King Tut coffin. The tape starts off with some dialogue that sounds almost like a video game or History Channel show talking about Egypt’s history and then Lupe unleashes a punishing verse that will get you thinking a la some Kendrick. The tape isnt’t that long, but theres’s a lesson and method to the madness that is Lupe, just pay attention and you will see it. Press play below
Abilene, TX rapper and 300 Ent member (same label as Fetty Wap), T-Wayne, sits down with DJ Smallz and decodes his new mixtape, “Who Is Rickey Wayne,” providing further insight from the artwork to a few songs. The crazy part about T-Wayne is how he completely blew up on one song that was supposed to be a freestyle. With hundreds of millions of plays on Spotify on his song “Nasty” this kid is likely to be around for a while.
Sean Price’s untimely death prompted the Duck Down Records legend to be mourned by countless members of the Hip-Hop community. It also made every one of his recordings following August 8 worth cherishing.
Before his passing, Price had already planned and finalized a new mixtape, Songs in the Key of Price, that he unfortunately did not get to see released.
However the music is forever and said mixtape has arrived in the form of a seven-track offering full of clever pop culture puns and unapologetic rhymes. We would expect it no other way.

Columbus, GA emcees bring back the lyrics on this collaborative mixtape. The project features well known local artists such as Lil 40, Kush Pack, J.Toombs, Greasekydz and many more.
“There are a few reasons why I wanted to put together a mixtape. Many local artists were approaching me to shoot them a music video, but the songs were so cliché. The songs were reference to money they obviously didn’t have, degrading women, ownership of automobiles I never saw them drive and the typical catchy hook with no message in their lyrics. What happened to lyricists? What happened to the art of storytelling? What happened to talking about politics, education and events happening around the world? I felt the culture of hip hop was no longer a culture. Artists complaining about DJ’s but I recall the DJ and the artist went hand in hand. After watching a few local videos one day, I decided enough was enough; I wanted to make a mixtape with the original elements of hip hop. Now when researching the elements, the number of elements seem to always be up for debate. The 5th element is argued in forums, on Wikipedia and hip hop sites. No matter how many elements and what the 5th element is, there are 4 hardcore elements that are not debated and cannot be argued. I was not blessed with the talent to rap, DJ, paint graffiti, or produce beats, well here’s my contribution to hip hop that has been long overdue with the help of many lyrical artists…” – Will Santana
