Nike Coming Back (Sort of) for ComplexCon Long Beach 2019

After a hiatus, Nike looks to be making a small comeback at this year’s sneaker and streetwear convention ComplexCon.
The megabrand participates annually in numerous conventions focused on sneaker culture and streetwear (of which there are more every year), including Sneaker Con. But last year it skipped ComplexCon entirely for the first time since the event started in 2016 as a huge combination of brand product drops, panels, creative events and music acts. Nike at the time said there was no specific reason for it not participating.
A bit of new Nike Inc. product will be back this year, albeit in a far lesser capacity than earlier years. The brand apparently will again have no booth at the event and it is again not an advertiser, either, but it does have two co-branded products dropping. Last year it had none.
The first is a limited edition (126 pairs) of the Nike Kyrie 5 done with Sneaker Room. The second drop is a Nike collaboration with Atmos, the Harlem-based sneaker boutique. The release of the color-driven capsule collaboration, dubbed “Pop the Street,” is coming through Atmos’ presence at the convention and includes T-shirts, hoodies and Nike Air Force 1 sneaker. Similarly, the Nike products

Nike Stays Silent in the Wake of LeBron James’ Controversy

STATUS UPDATE: While Hong Kong protestors were photographed burning shirts imprinted with LeBron James’ name on Tuesday, Nike, his leading sponsor, did not respond to a request for comment regarding his pro-China stance.
The Los Angeles Lakers star is the latest NBA player to get caught in the firestorm that was sparked by the Houston Rockets’ general manager Daryl Morey’s pro-Hong Kong tweet. That led to an international kerfuffle, with backlash from Chinese companies and consumers. Morey subsequently deleted the controversial tweet. China Central Television, for example, boycotted broadcasting NBA pre-season games in China. Tencent Holdings, however, live-streamed two NBA games Monday played outside of China.
Before the Lakers played the Golden State Warriors Monday night, James told reporters that Morey “wasn’t educated on the situation at hand. And he spoke. And so many people could have been harmed, not only financially but emotionally, physically and spiritually.”
James later appeared to try to tamp down the situation on Twitter with this post: “My team and this league just went through a difficult week. I think people need to understand what a tweet or statement can do to others. And I believe nobody stopped and considered what would happen. Could have waited a week

Our Favorite Nike Athletic Socks Are a Great Deal at Macy’s

Guys, don’t skimp on the socks.

There are a few things in life worth paying a little extra for. A decent mattress comes to mind. Good beer certainly qualifies. Toilet paper is definitely a get-what-you-pay-for kind of item. And great socks should be on that list as well.

One of our favorite socks is made by Nike—and clearly, we’re not alone. Nike athletic socks come in a handy six-pack, in crew, quarter, ankle, and no-show styles. They’re available in white or black. Best of all, they have over 800 reviews at Macy’s alone, and still manage a perfect five-star rating. So you should head over to Macy’s today and get a great deal on a six-pack of Nike socks for just $ 20.

Fact is, socks are one of the most knocked-off garments in the world. When we buy socks at our local discount store, or even at various places online (yep, even Amazon), there’s no guarantee that they’re authentic, or are truly made by the brand that’s listed on the label. We know that. We know we’re taking a chance when buying discounted socks, and that’s fine—if we’re in a pinch.

But we also know to temper our disappointment when they wear out their softness and stability in a matter of months, or completely fall apart after a few runs through the washer. A better solution? Buy a known brand from a seller you trust.

We love these Nike socks because they’re soft and comfortable, and they’ll last for dozens, if not hundreds, of washes. At the gym, they’re tough enough to withstand the most severe punishment, whether we’re running, balling, or lifting. And on the street, they’re great for everyday.

Honestly, we rock the black ones to the office all the time; they’re way more comfortable than synthetic dress socks, even if we’re wearing loafers.

And they’re ideal for boots. In fall and winter, dress socks just don’t cut it. We need full-length, thick socks to keep our toes warm and our footing secure. And really need our socks to dry relatively quickly if we step in a slush or puddle. These Nike athletic socks make great winter socks.

When it comes to socks, you definitely get what you pay for. And besides, twenty bucks for six pairs of socks is a great deal! So get over to Macy’s today and get six pairs of excellent socks that will last you for a long time to come. No matter where your feet take you.

Nike Is Making SpongeBob SquarePants Sneakers

SpongeBob SquarePants is getting his own sneaker collection.
In celebration of the Nickelodeon TV show’s 20th anniversary, Nike is teaming with NBA player Kyrie Irving to create a SpongeBob SquarePants collection that takes inspiration from the beloved show’s characters.
Nike and Irving — a self-described super fan of the show — worked in collaboration with Nickelodeon to create five versions of the Kyrie 5 and Kyrie Low 2 sneakers that are designed after the titular character along with his friends Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Mr. Krabs and Sandy Cheeks.

The Kyrie 5 sneaker is created to look like a sponge with a yellow polka dot pattern and a red and brown sole that mimics SquarePants’ uniform suit. The sneakers also include an image of the character himself on the inside soles.
Because a SpongeBob SquarePants collaboration wouldn’t be complete without his best friend Patrick, another version of the Kyrie 5 sneaker is included in the collection that takes inspiration from the

Nike Apologizes To Black Family Who Say They Were Racially Profiled & Accused Of Stealing

joel stallworth tamiya dickerson nike racial profiling

Source: TaMiya Dickerson / facebook

A Black family says they were racially profiled and accused of stealing from a Nike store in Santa Monica, Calif. despite having proof of purchase. A white store manager flagged down cops to confront Joel Stallworth and TaMiya Dickerson and their 18-month-old son over a $ 12 basketball.

NBC News reports:

The incident happened on July 5 as Joel Stallworth and TaMiya Dickerson were at the Santa Monica Place shopping mall with their 18-month-old son, Sammy, according to a press release from the family’s lawyer and a video of the incident that Dickerson posted on Facebook.

The couple said they were not planning on buying anything but changed their mind and purchased a Nike Swoosh Mini basketball after their son picked it up and started to carry it around.

Stallworth and Dickerson said that as they were leaving the manager of the store followed them outside, accused them of stealing the basketball and demanded they give it back. Stallworth explained that they bought the ball for their son and continued to walk down the street with his family.

The manager continued to follow them and flagged down Santa Monica police officers for help.

Video of the incident on Dickerson’s Facebook page shows the parents explaining to the manager and at least three Santa Monica police officers that they bought the basketball and have the receipt.

The family took the ball back to get a refund and eventually retained the services of an attorney. Nike has issued an apology to the family and says it will look into the matter.

The Under-$100 J.Crew and Nike Sneakers You’ll Want to Wear All Year Long

Spring is that time of year when you go to grab your white sneakers but realize you wore them to the point where half of your shoe separates every time you take a step, the laces are about to snap, and cleaning them off just won’t do the trick anymore. In short, it’s time to invest in a new pair of kicks.

And if you’re like us, you want a pair of sneakers that look cool enough to wear with your favorite dress shirt and, once it’s Friday at 5 p.m., that vintage tee you scored on the cheap a few years ago.

J.Crew Nike Killshot 2 shoes
Courtesy J.Crew

Sure, there are tons of great white sneakers that fit the bill you can easily buy online right now. But no one really wants to drop money on a pair that doesn’t quite nail that perfect mix of dressy-meets-casual without looking like you’re heading to the gym for a bodyweight workout. Good news: J.Crew launched its new J.Crew x Nike Killshot 2 sneakers this month, and you can finally buy them online (well, if you’re not trying to buy a size 13).

J.Crew Nike Killshot 2 Sneakers
Courtesy J.Crew

Yes, you’ve seen them before, but the brand revamped one of its best-selling pairs of kicks this time around with what it calls a “sail green” swoosh logo. The suede-and-leather upper serves up some simple style with just the right amount of color, which makes them a little easier to dress up or down—we think they’ll look cool with that new spring suit. And if you’re not completely sold on that green Nike logo, you can still get them in the go-to navy-and-white version for the same price. They’re 90 bucks, but they’re the kind of shoes you’ll want to wear until they completely fall apart—that is, if you can get them before they sell out again.
