Adidas Originals Unveils Collaboration With Ji Won Choi

TAKE FIVE: New York-based Korean fashion designer Ji Won Choi is the latest emerging talent Adidas Originals tapped to design a capsule women’s ready-to-wear collection.
“The idea was to take the very classic Adidas tracksuit and reinterpret it with my aesthetic in five different ways. I took the very iconic Adidas stripes and repeated it everywhere to create a consistent and cohesive visual language and merge it with the sportiness and playfulness of the brand,” Choi explained during the presentation.
The clothes were shown in a huge basement near Camden market during London Fashion Week. A colorful 3-D maze was built and models walked up and down on interconnected staircases as in an infinite loop.
Alex Weiland, the director of special projects at Adidas who discovered Choi on Instagram, said it’s “important for us to give a new platform for young designers. London has such an appetite for emerging design talents. So we decide to take her here.”
She said the first drop is slated for Feb. 23 at retailers including Kith, Dover Street Market and Barneys New York. A second drop in a black-and-white colorway will happen in May.

The Originals: Pharrell Williams

Two months ago, in the midst of New York Fashion Week’s manic, frenetic energy, Pharrell Williams sat in a silent wing of the Brooklyn Museum looking pensive, almost meditative. He’d just finished production on Ariana Grande’s album “Sweetener,” not to mention all the various singles (“Nice” and “Apes–t” for The Carters, “Skeletons” for Travis Scott’s “Astroworld,”) he’d pumped out over the course of 2018. He also had business deals to look out for: his line with Adidas and an upcoming collaboration with Chanel slated for 2019. Plus, he was at the museum that night hosting an event called Yellow Ball for hundreds of guests. So, yeah, he had some stuff on his mind.
But for the musician, businessman and creative, keeping his hands in all sorts of endeavors is an essential part of his process understanding the human experience, learning new things and telling stories. This is how he explains it, via FaceTime. It’s November now, and Williams is in California — so a pristine blue sky and palm trees are visible in the background of the parking lot outside of his recording studio, where he’s sitting. When he speaks, he has that same calm, self-assured nature he possessed while alone

Adidas Opens Largest Originals Store Globally in Chicago With Focus on Local Community

Thursday’s opening of the Adidas Originals flagship in Chicago will be the largest in the world, and the seventh one in the U.S.
With nearly 5,000 square feet of shoppable space, the 10,000-square-foot store at 1532 North Milwaukee Avenue is taking a hyper-local approach. In the never-ending chase to bridge the online community with the in-store experience, the company is playing up the city’s heritage through design accents. A fitting room reflects the materials and route of the L train, with walls wrapped with ribbed brush steel reminiscent of the elevated line’s cars. There is also a bench that is modeled after the ones found in all CTA stations.
The city’s transit system was also the inspiration for custom signs displayed throughout the store, which are similar to the ones displayed on the L train line and in its stations. The Adidas versions direct shoppers to silhouettes from the brand’s past, highlighting the year each model made its debut and other information. Wednesday night’s opening party, featured performances from BJ The Chicago Kid, Knox Fortune and DJ ELZ. The site is near two other streetwear and sneaker stores, RSVP Gallery and Saint Alfred.
A Community Wall will highlight local events, concerts and releases

15 cover songs that are better than the originals

The original isn't always the best. Sure, there are plenty of covers that ride the coattails of the original, trying to mooch off of their success that can be catchy or fun (looking at you Orgy with your rendition of "Blue Monday"), but there are others that outshine the originals by either taking them to the next level, or even reinventing them in an unexpected way.So with that criteria in mind, here are 15 of our favorite cover songs that transcend the original recordings.
