Chainmail Is a Trend Happening at Paris Fashion Week

As many stay tuned to Paris Fashion Week, an unlikely fashion trend has popped up among the Parisian street-style set: chainmail.
The 12th-century armor, originally a mesh made up of metal rings to protect the head and body, has been reimagined by many Paris showgoers, who are wearing the style in silver, gold and black as clothing, headwear and handbags.
Giving a nod to the medieval chainmail style, two showgoers were seen wearing the style as headwear, one with a black chain-link headpiece worn over a metallic silver headscarf and another wearing a silver chain-link headpiece with a matching handbag.

Others went with more of a disco theme. Designer Michelle Elie wore a silver metallic sequined dress with a matching bag, while another paired a metallic gold chain-link top with a matching gold sequined skirt.

Over the decades, the style has been a runway staple, most notably by Paco Rabanne, who made it his signature style in the Sixties. Most recently, the look was interpreted for fall by designers including Christian Siriano, who gave models ponytails tied together with links of chainmail; Area, which accented clothing with colorful

Leonard Paris RTW Fall 2019

Heritage can be stifling. How far can Leonard’s signature printed silk motifs actually go? Since her nomination as creative director of the house in March 2016, Christine Phung has been striving to take the brand’s identity to new heights. Sometimes her modern take works; at others it feels constrained.
The fall 2019 collection was the latter. Themed around a plane trip to Jaipur, India, the show was accessed thanks to boarding passes. Silk eye masks were laid out on seats, while on the runway models rolled Tumi suitcases, held printed neck pillows and one even wore a safety jacket. These were fun gimmicks, but they couldn’t distract from the busy prints that were splashed over total looks: in dominant tones of pink, orange, blue and purple, long silk dresses, fluid jackets, shirts, short kimonos and caftans were covered in garish orchid motifs. Most silhouettes were barely more than holiday dresses for heiresses; others looked like stewardesses from a particularly flashy airline company.
Gold lamé touches on the three black silhouettes were more convincing, taking the prints straight to evening wear. Phung played with nuances: printed silk details were ingeniously placed around wrists and belt linings on wool coats and pinstriped suits, while

Women’s Ready-to-Wear Season in Paris: The Scene

There’s never a dull moment in the City of Light. Here, a smattering of ideas of what to do between fashion shows.
GENERATION US: Two new stores, run by former Colette employees, have emerged on the northern tip of the Rue Cambon in Paris following a broad reshuffling of retail space in the tony neighborhood. Adding a sheen of Colette-cool to the luxury stronghold, the stores offer a range of streetwear, watches, sneakers and magazines from a wide swath of brands.

Inside the new Nous store.

The five-strong team behind Nous includes Olivier Breton, Marvin Dein, Enson Malbranche, Tarek Amoura and Sylvain Brondel. “After the closing of Colette, it was normal to continue our momentum, build our own project with the know-how and contacts we built up over so many years,” said Dein, who spent five of his 10 years at Colette buying sneakers.

The Nous facade.

The triangular space at Number 48, opened first, sprinkling streetwear with art, watches from labels including Rolex, Label Noir and Romain Jérome, glasses from Gucci and Spektre, jewelry from Nina & Ko, Tom Wood and John Hardy, and high-tech objects from Bang & Olufsen and Hadro. Across the street are cosmetics and perfume from labels such as Codage,

EXCLUSIVE: Balmain Paris Flagship Opens Doors

PARIS — The doors of Balmain’s new Paris flagship officially swing open today, cementing the template introduced in the house’s recently opened Milan flagship for a new brick-and-mortar concept for the company.
A select group of editors got a preview of the store, located on Rue Saint-Honoré, one of Paris’ hottest and most exclusive retail arteries, for the staging of the house’s inaugural couture show under creative director Olivier Rousteing in January, held on the site’s ground floor. A cocktail party is planned for the day of the house’s ready-to-wear show on March 1.
Designed by Rousteing in collaboration with Studio AMV’s Anna Philippou, Marie-Charlotte Prosperi-Fouchard and Victoire Guerlay, the two-story boutique — the brand’s largest store, measuring a total of 6,845 square feet — was conceived as a series of rooms.
Channeling a Parisian apartment, it opens with a library-inspired space featuring a parquet floor, towering mirrored columns and marble shelves stocked with women’s bags. A small passage themed around a game room with a custom-made chandelier and game-table-inspired merchandising unit housing small accessories is flanked by a safe wall with jewelry displays. It leads to a lobby-style men’s and women’s footwear space, and beyond that an intimate cash desk area — rather

Bridget Foley’s Diary: To Paris We Must Go

Taking to the runway for fall isn’t necessary. Taking the collection to Paris to sell absolutely is.
That’s the current mind-set at Monse, as for the second consecutive fall season the brand will forego a formal show. Instead, designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia have enlisted Kristian Schuller to shoot their look book, which will feature Amanda Murphy, and the brand will hold showroom appointments in New York and Paris.
While the designers remain undecided about whether to opt off the runway for spring as well, in something of a paradigm shift they will definitely stage a formal show for resort 2020.
At a time when brands increasingly opt to go their own way when it comes to presenting their collections, the Monse designers and chief executive officer Renee Prince Fillip thought long and hard about the traditional schedule vis-à-vis the realities of their business. Their no-show decision for fall took into consideration the complications of staging two shows in a single season, as Kim and Garcia have done most seasons since taking over the creative helm at Oscar de la Renta. An even bigger consideration: the frustrating reality of fall markdowns. They determined that the scale of the fall business doesn’t justify the

Parsons Paris, the European campus of The New School’s  Parsons School of Design, said Friday that it has formed an advisory board to provide guidance to university leadership on strategy and growth opportunities, help shape innovative programming and enhance the school’s reputation throughout the world.
Peter Price, chairman and chief executive officer of Premiere Previews and a former trustee of The New School, will chair the advisory board.

La Prestic Ouiston Expands With Plans for Store in Paris

A NEW FLAME: Rounding out a globetrotting tour of pop-up stores, La Prestic Ouiston is opening its first boutique in the Saint Germain district of Paris and launching an e-commerce site at the start of next year.
Nearly a decade old, the upscale Parisian label best known for original prints and fluid silhouettes, has recently experienced a surge of interest abroad, where it is sold in places including Fivestory in New York, Ron Herman in Los Angeles and Japan, Hanwha Galleria in Seoul, and soon on Matchesfashion.com.
For the label’s designer Laurence Mahéo, opening a Paris store will offer the chance to return to her design roots with one-off items. Self-taught, the designer was exposed to textiles growing up—her grandparents ran a high-end fabric store in France—and, as an adult, started selling clothing at Le Bon Marché in small batches of one-off pieces. Mahéo branched out into collections at the suggestion of the Left Bank institution’s Régine Bérault.
“I didn’t realize I was building a brand—I was making clothing,” recalled Mahéo.
“I still have a hard time realizing that it has become a French label with a certain notoriety…I feel like I have spent 10 years working like crazy and, suddenly, lifting my head

Alexander McQueen Missing From Paris Men’s Week

SHOW BUSINESS: Big acts missing from the official schedule of Paris Men’s Week in January will include Alexander McQueen. The house plans to switch to a series of intimate events as its new presentation format, WWD has learned. The first will take place in London in May for the fall 2019 season. “Intrinsically connected to the bespoke tailoring heritage of Alexander McQueen men’s wear, these events will be central to the evolution of the house’s commitment to the championing of creativity, craftsmanship and innovation,” the brand said. The house moved to showing in Paris in June 2017 after having shown by appointment in Milan and London in previous seasons.
As expected, Lanvin, which recently parted ways with its men’s creative director Lucas Ossendrijver, is also missing from the lineup, according to the Chambre Syndicale which released its provisional schedule for the week on Friday.
Maison Margiela will also sit out the Paris men’s shows this season as it undergoes a strategic review under chief executive officer Riccardo Bellini, who joined the company in March. The house is believed to be aligning its men’s ready-to-wear collection more closely with its women’s line and Artisanal couture collection. Maison Margiela creative director John Galliano oversees

Is Tommy Headed to Paris to Show?

FRENCH FLAG: Tommy Hilfiger is said to be eyeing Paris for his February “see-now-buy now” show. It is understood that the Chambre Syndicale, the organizer of the official fashion week, won’t make its decision until the end of this month if the designer can join its official calendar.
Hilfiger is reportedly looking to show his Tommy x Zendaya capsule collection in Paris as part of his see-now-buy-now extravaganzas. His globe-trotting shows, which have catapulted the brand’s social media engagement, have taken place in New York, Los Angeles, London and Milan.
Meanwhile, word has it that Hilfiger has already decided to return to his hometown in September and is considering the Apollo Theater in Harlem.
A spokeswoman for Hilfiger declined to comment on both the February and September events.
It was reported earlier this month that Ralph Lauren was entertaining the idea of showing in Paris in February, but a Ralph Lauren spokesman said Thursday the designer has decided against that idea. He plans to show in New York, although further details weren’t available.

EXCLUSIVE: Givenchy to Return to Paris Men’s Wear Calendar in January

DIFFERENT STROKES: At least one major brand is battling the tide of coed shows.
After switching to joint women’s and men’s displays following the arrival of Clare Waight Keller as artistic director in 2017, Givenchy has decided to switch back to the men’s wear fashion calendar for the fall 2019 season, WWD has learned.
The French fashion house will stage a presentation on Jan. 16 during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, before returning to the runway in June, it said in a statement.
Waight Keller, whose coed spring collection was inspired by the gender-fluid style of Swiss writer Annemarie Schwarzenbach, will continue to show women and men side by side in her ready-to-wear and haute couture shows, the brand said. Her campaigns for the house have portrayed both genders in mirror-image pairs.
“Granting men’s wear a dedicated platform starting from January reflects the house’s support of Clare Waight Keller’s vision for the brand,” Givenchy said.
The move comes at a time when a growing number of brands are opting to present women’s and men’s wear at the same time. Celine and Maison Margiela staged their first coed shows this season, while brands including Stella McCartney, Balenciaga, Haider Ackermann and Sonia Rykiel featured models of both sexes

Sotheby’s Paris Preps Fourth Auction of Books From Pierre Bergé’s Personal Library

BERGE’S BOOKENDS: If reading is the key to enlightenment, Pierre Bergé sure had a lot of books to spark his intelligence.
Sotheby’s Paris will hold the fourth auction for a selection of books from Bergé’s personal collection on Dec. 14. Several choice lots are on view at Sotheby’s New York office through Saturday, and they illustrated the myriad interests of the late French business titan: botany, gardens, philosophy, activism and more. The upcoming auction is expected to drum up between 5 million euros and 6 million euros, according to a Sotheby’s spokeswoman.
Literature, the 19th century and music were among the areas of interest covered in prior sales, with the first auction having been held nearly three years ago.
The December sale includes such highlights as Bartholomeus Anglicus’ “Le Propriétaire des choses,” circa 1486. This complete copy of a major medieval encyclopedia is illustrated with 19 large woodcuts, all hand-colored at that time. Bidders will also find Gustave Flaubert’s “Salammbô” from 1863, a first edition that was inscribed by Flaubert to the composer Hector Berlioz.
Another reading relic is Leonhart Fuchs’ “De historia stirpium commentarii insignes” from 1542 that is considered to be the founding treatise of modern botany. The auction house will also

Paris Opera Ballet Kickstarts Season With Audience Participation

YOU CAN DANCE: Audience participation is not usually part of the deal when you go to the ballet, but the opening gala of the season at the Paris Opera set out to shake up traditions.
Guests were invited to join the Paris Opera Ballet on stage at the ornate Palais Garnier, where they were led by dancers to perform a waltz. In their colorful evening dresses, the untrained participants stood out from the sea of tuxedo-clad dancers.
“We weren’t given any indications whatsoever,” said music producer Pedro Winter, who was the only male picked to go on stage. “The dancers guided me through touch and by maintaining constant eye contact. It turned out to be pretty instinctive in the end. You just let go.”
It was all part of Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin’s “Decadanse,” an electrifying performance featuring 31 dancers. The first act, an energetic group choreography to the tune of Goldfrapp’s “Black Cherry,” gave an indication of the unusual evening to come.
Russian prima ballerina Diana Vishneva and Aurélie Dupont earned rapturous applause for their “Boléro” pas de deux, wearing black asymmetrical costumes designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. Dupont, who retired from dancing in 2015, succeeded Benjamin Millepied as director of the

Marques’ Almeida to Show in Paris

JEAN GENIES: London’s Marques’ Almeida is heading to Paris Fashion Week, according to a statement released Monday, though the details are still being finalized.
Launched in 2011 by London-based Portuguese duo Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida, and propelled by the success of its signature Nineties-inspired frayed denim pieces, the growing label scooped the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize in 2015, offering a 300,000-euro cash boost, a year of coaching and global exposure.
As reported, new arrivals to the Paris schedule include Afterhomework, A.W.A.K.E., Ottolinger and designer Anton Belinskiy.
The week is set to kick off a day earlier than usual on Sept. 24, with Simon Porte Jacquemus — who last year started showing his collection on the eve of the official start of the week — being joined by heavy hitters Dior and Gucci, the latter defecting exceptionally from Milan for one season.
Among other expected highlights are Hedi Slimane’s first collection for women and men at Céline, scheduled for Sept. 28 at 8:30 p.m. — the late Friday time slot marking a pronounced change from his predecessor Phoebe Philo, who habitually showed in an early afternoon slot on Sunday.

Thieves Target Audemars Piguet in Paris

STEALING TIME: Two armed thieves made off with luxury watches estimated to be worth around 1 million euros from a boutique owned by Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet in central Paris, steps away from the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, on Saturday afternoon.
It is the latest jewelry heist to strike the French capital.
Authorities are searching for two individuals who left the store located at 46 Rue de Pierre Charonn with a number of high-valued timepieces after the hold-up at about 1 p.m. in the 8th arrondissement, according to a spokesman for the Paris police.
The duo entered the store and showed their handguns — but didn’t shoot — before taking the watches and fleeing in a car. They abandoned that vehicle, which was subsequently found in the nearby Bois de Boulogne park, the police spokesman said.
The judicial police’s bandit repression brigade is overseeing the case.
Local media outlets are reporting that the stolen watches are worth around 1 million euros.
Officials at Audemars Piguet were not immediately available to comment.

Paris Hilton Codesigns Collection With Boohoo.com

Paris Hilton has codesigned a summer collection for Boohoo.com, the U.K.-based fast-fashion e-tailer, set to launch globally June 20. The Boohoo x Paris Hilton collection features a range of ready-to-wear and swimwear that reflects her favorite trends and fashion moments from the early Aughts.
Animal prints, slinky metallics, palm prints inspired by her hometown of Beverly Hills, and cheeky slogan pieces with her mottos such as “That’s Hot” comprise the 70-piece collection. Products retail from $ 15 to $ 70.
Hilton, the 37-year-old entrepreneur, TV personality, model, author, DJ and singer, told WWD that she discovered Boohoo.com on Instagram “and loved all their cute styles, designs and accessories they make.” She described the Boohoo collaboration as “very Paris, inspired by my life and style, the early 2000s, Beverly Hills and Ibiza.”
Natalie McGrath, vice president of marketing at Boohoo USA, explained, “What we were seeing coming through with all the trends this year was a throwback to the Nineties and the early 2000s. We wanted to home in on that trend and own it from a collaboration standpoint. What better to follow with an icon from that era, Paris Hilton.” She said the retailer has been expanding its collaborations, and earlier this year worked with Zendaya

Black Spiderman: Mamoudou Gassama Saves Toddler In Daring Paris Rescue

FRANCE-IMMIGRATION

Source: THIBAULT CAMUS / Getty

Mamoudou Gassama risked his life and the ability to live in his adopted home of France after performing one of the bravest acts ever seen. Gassama scaled a Paris apartment building to rescue a toddler who was hanging from a balcony and has been rightfully rewarded with citizenship in France and a job with the country’s fire service.

As reported by The Guardian, the man the French press has dubbed “le Spiderman” is an undocumented immigrant from Malia who climbed for stories on the side of the building to rescue the child. Despite the risk of deportation and injury, Gassama leaped into action without fear.

The Guardian writes:

Footage of the rescue shows Gassama, 22, pulling himself up the building’s storeys from balcony to balcony as a man on the fourth floor tries to hold on to the child by leaning across from a neighbouring balcony.

On reaching the fourth floor, Gassama puts one leg over the balcony before reaching out with his right arm and grabbing the child.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the child had already been rescued.

“Luckily, there was someone who was physically fit and who had the courage to go and get the child,” a fire service spokesman said.

Tracked down by reporters 24 hours after the rescue, Gassama said he had acted without thinking. “I saw all these people shouting, and cars sounding their horns. I climbed up like that and, thank God, I saved the child,” he said.

“I felt afraid when I saved the child … [when] we went into the living room, I started to shake, I could hardly stand up, I had to sit down,” he added.

Gassama received praise from Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and met with French President Emmanuel Macron who offered the hero a path to citizenship and the fire service job offer.

The news has been one of the best feel-good stories of the weekend, and the response online has been nothing short of joyous for good reason.

Paris Couture Booms as High Spenders Flock Back

PARIS — Paris Couture Week, which begins today, is back to its usual length after tacking on an extra day last season, but with its momentum intact as luxury leaders report a steady return of high spenders to the French capital.
The number of hotel arrivals in the Greater Paris region reached a record 23.1 million in 2017, with tourist numbers expected to rise by 10 to 12 percent versus 2016, a year strongly affected by the aftermath of terrorist attacks, according to the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“The outlook for 2018 indicates that this dynamic is set to continue,” it said.

Couture clients are expected to flock to the usual round of high-jewelry presentations, as well as events such as Christian Dior’s masked ball, due to be held at the Rodin Museum on Monday, and an exhibition devoted to Azzedine Alaïa, whose death in November left the fashion industry reeling.

EXCLUSIVE: Winona Ryder Named L’Oréal Paris Brand Ambassador

L’Oréal Paris has tapped Winona Ryder to appear in a campaign tied to a massive rebrand of its U.S. hair business, WWD has exclusively learned.
A “robust, 360-campaign” comprising digital, social, TV and print advertising is set to launch Sunday during the Golden Globes with a TV commercial featuring Ryder, said Anne Marie Nelson-Bogle, senior vice president of marketing at L’Oréal Paris.
Titled “The Comeback,” the campaign is tied to the repositioning of the majority of the L’Oréal Paris hair-care products, including shampoos, conditioners and treatments, plus a few new products, under a new franchise called Elvive.
The Elvive platform focuses on damage prevention, a message L’Oréal is hoping U.S. consumers — fond of curling irons, blowouts, dry shampoo and bleach — will relate to. L’Oréal research found that eight in 10 women in the U.S. have damaged hair — and 18- to 34-year-olds in particular overindex in hot-tool-related damage.
“Everyone does love a comeback, and we will be communicating that damaged hair deserves one, too,” said Nelson-Bogle of the new campaign. “For Winona, we know that from TV sets to the red carpet, her hair has gone through many transformations — her hair is dry and damaged.”

The Paris Vintage Shoe Store That’s a Resource for Top Designers

PARIS — Situated among orthopedic shoe stores, natural wine bars and bobo restaurants, La Petite Fripe sells vintage footwear to fashion designers and their Parisian muses.
The pocket-sized boutique, located in the 11th arrondissement’s trendier zone, exclusively sells unworn, dead stock vintage shoes. While only open since September, the store has quickly culled a fan base including girl-about-town Clara Cornet, model Louise Follain and actress Pauline Jacquard. It has also become a sourcing ground of inspiration for footwear designers at some of Paris’ leading fashion houses, with designers accounting for half the shop’s sales.
Founded by antique and vintage dealer Lhassan Oubakrim, La Petite Fripe’s shelves have recently housed an assortment of Eighties metallic mule pumps, dandy loafers and embroidered mukluk boots. Shoes are typically priced around 80 euros, with boots hitting the highest price point at about 280 euros.
Here, Oubakrim speaks with WWD on about his store.
WWD: What is your work experience prior to opening this boutique?
Lhassan Oubakrim: I have been a bargain hunter and an antique dealer for years. I love unexpected discoveries and the feeling of finding one amazing piece amongst a mountain of s–t. It is both my work and my passion.

Vetements Joins Paris Men’s Week

Demna Gvasalia continues to shake up the Paris fashion calendar — and experiment with new runway timetables for his Vetements brand.
WWD has learned that Vetements plans to stage its next coed show, for the fall 2018 season, on Jan. 19 during Men’s Fashion Week in the French capital. Details about the timing and venue could not immediately be learned.
Previously, Vetements paraded its women’s and men’s collections during the couture shows, while last season it skipped the runway in favor of a showroom presentation.
Founded in Paris in 2014, Vetements catapulted onto the fashion scene with brash, urgent shows staged in offbeat locations: the basement darkrooms of a seedy gay club one season; a shabby Chinese restaurant the next. It helped ignite the streetwear trend and brought forth a mold-breaking approach to fashion based on garments rather than seasonal themes or narratives.
Last year the brand shifted its show from the ready-to-wear schedule to couture week as a guest member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, forging a path that American brands Proenza Schouler and Rodarte followed. Vetements declined to elaborate on its rationale for the shift, however it tends to spring from Gvasalia’s creative intent. Men’s Fashion Week in Paris is

Designers Turn Out for Paris Rwanda Benefit

FESTIVE SPIRIT: It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas as guests flowed into Yannick Alléno’s three-star restaurant, the Pavillon Ledoyen, on Thursday night Numéro editor in chief Babeth Djian’s annual dinner for Rwandan children, with proceeds going to Les Amis des Enfants du Monde (Friends of the Children of the World).
Designers including Olivier Rousteing, Alber Elbaz, Alexandre Vauthier, Jean Paul Gaultier and Christan Louboutin — who took Djian for a spin on the dance floor — got into the festive spirit.
Sparkle and black was the dress code with outfits ranging from Karidja Touré’s peak-shouldered silver and black jacket by Mugler to the matching, jewelry-loaded, black and gold Saint Laurent ensembles sported by rising rock star brother-sister duo Natalie and Elliot Bergman of Wild Belle who had been flown in by the house for the event. “I love bells,” deadpanned Elliot Bergman, whipping out his phone to share a photo of a set of bronze bells he has on display in a Paris gallery. The group is recording their third album, “a back-to-roots affair,” between Chicago and Los Angeles.

Lacoste Returns to Its Roots With Paris Show

PARIS — The weather might not cooperate, but Lacoste designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista has a backup plan: He’ll leave the rain cover in place.
But if the sun shines, then the lid will be off and the label’s first Paris ready-to-wear show in 13 years will be in a stadium-like setting surrounded by trees.
“I really wanted to do it outdoors, somewhere iconic and close to Lacoste. It was difficult to find a place that seats a thousand people,” explained Baptista.
That spot turned out to be a corner of the Tuileries Garden, bang in the middle of Paris and just a stone’s throw from the Jeu de Paume museum — a historic site where Parisians played a popular indoor game considered the predecessor to tennis.
The venue signals a wish for the brand to return to its sports roots and French heritage.
“Sport-inspired and French elegance, these are the two pillars we are leaning on,” noted Thierry Guibert, chief executive officer of Lacoste, which belongs to the Swiss retail group Maus Frères SA.
He found the label unfocused when he took the helm of the company around three years ago.
“One of the main tasks when I arrived was to give the brand a clear direction,”

The Wall Group to Open Paris Office

Talent agency The Wall Group is set to open a Paris office next week in the midst of the city’s fashion week. The agency, which represents hairstylists, makeup artist and fashion stylists, has a roster that includes Danilo, Renato Campora, Ben Skervin, Hung Vanngo, Frank B, Alice Lane, Kate Young, Karla Welch and Elizabeth Stewart.
“Our decision to expand into Paris is a logical next step for our business,” said founder Brooke Wall. “We’ve worked with European talent, brands and fashion houses for years from afar, but demand continues to increase as the focus on international red carpets, film festivals and fashion presentations intensifies. We see a lot of opportunity to grow our services in-market and are excited about this evolution.”
Wall founded TWG in 2000 in New York and began with a roster of behind-the-scenes talent focused on the traditional fashion and editorial industry. TWG opened its Los Angeles office in 2003 to addresses the small but burgeoning group of artists focused on celebrity and red carpet styling. Today, those artists are among those signing lucrative consulting and designing gigs, such as Welch’s recent tie-up with Hanes, for which Justin Bieber was the poster boy.

RAMMSTEIN: PARIS – Rammstein

Rammstein - RAMMSTEIN: PARIS artwork

RAMMSTEIN: PARIS

Rammstein

Genre: Concert Films

Price: $ 12.99

Release Date: January 1, 2017

Catching the excitement of a spectacular concert on film is an almost impossible task. All the senses are stimulated at live events in a way that can't be replicated onscreen. Director Jonas Akerlund's extraordinary film RAMMSTEIN: PARIS is the closest anyone has ever come to cracking this dilemma. His creative rendition of the all-new stage production they delivered at Paris Bercy in March 2012 takes the art form to a whole new level, capturing the rush and grandeur of Rammstein live the way the band has always deserved. The look this time is sweaty, grimy gothic veering off into Grand Guignol, a technical tour de force that captivates you even before the music has started, as the titles flicker by like an electronic malfunction to the sinister hisses and sighs of the industrial stage set. Steam and light pulsate to a dystopian beat, a flaming torch parts the crowd, and the hooded band march ritualistically through the audience to the stage via an elevated gantry, ratcheting-up the tension. Anyone who can tease the crowd for this long is confident of delivering, and Rammstein do so in spades. As the grinding lurch of Sonne mutates into Wollt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen, fireballs shoot skywards from the guitarists' lapels, and soon Till's flaming hands are windmilling, smoke seeping from his nose and mouth as he sings. In Feuer Frei! three of the musicians have fire shooting out of their faces, the guitars burst into flames at the end of Du Riechst So Gut, and the boomeranging fireworks Till shoots over the crowd during Du Hast have to be seen to be believed. We've all seen concert films edited so headache-inducingly fast that you can't see anything properly. Akerlund's genius here is his ability to cut the action at a breathless pace which leaves you feeling exhilarated not disorientated. Like the car crash sequences in The Bourne Ultimatum, the variety of camera angles and frenetic speed with which they assault you leaves you feeling not so much dazed as, well – like you are really there. As they thrash though Asche Zu Asche, you realize that the lens through which we're seeing Rammstein has become a seventh band member. There are strange colors, textures, kaleidoscopic visual effects, distressed overhead crowd shots that look like insects, hallucinatory dissolves of flailing band members and unsettling flash frames like Till's intermittently satanic black eyes and forked tongue, fanged creatures cavorting in the crowd and electric lightning striking Flake's keyboards like a scene from Frankenstein's laboratory. This is a new kind of concert film, the live experience enhanced – as no one in the hall would have seen it. Most bands use the B stage at the other end of the hall for an acoustic interlude. Not Rammstein. As Richard Kruspe unleashes ominous electro beats from a keyboard, the rest of the band are whipped to the podium on their knees like groveling submissives by dressed-in-drag drummer Christoph Schneider for a version of Buck Dich that raises the tempo to fire alarm levels, its explosive conclusion echoing the version that got them arrested in America. But there is tenderness too, even a moment when the band stands in silence on the B stage smiling at the audience surrounding them, soaking up the love. A concert film is never the same as being at a concert, but RAMMSTEIN: PARIS is the perfect fusion of the band's extraordinary stage show with the film editor's craft. It is a visual feast, a celebration of Rammstein live that is both different to and in some ways better than being there – and a definite contender for the best concert film of all time.

Kelela on Losing Luggage in Paris and Finding a New Look on Louis Vuitton’s Front Row

kelela

It’s the stuff of Paris Fashion Week lore: The R&B singer whose breathy vocals have become something of a siren call to designers for the Spring 2016 season, is en route to take her place front row at Louis Vuitton, one of the most highly anticipated shows of the season—and yet, her luggage simply doesn’t make it.

Panic could have set in, but as Kelela, whose throwback slow jam “Rewind” popped up on the soundtrack everywhere from Opening Ceremony to Fendi, reveals, all was not lost.

“Luckily, Vuitton saved the day and outfitted me for my entire stay,” says the D.C.-born, L.A.-based singer, who chose a selvedged denim maxi skirt, cropped jacket, and ’90s raver-girl platform boots for her Paris Fashion Week debut. Perched on the front row at Louis Vuitton alongside Grimes, her ensemble was right in step with the cyberpunk-inspired looks Nicolas Ghesquière sent down the runway.

But it was the orange ribbed knit skimmer she wore later that night, to a dinner in celebration of the house’s new collection, that really spoke to Kelela’s sense of personal style. “My favorite piece of clothing was a ribbed tangerine dress that tulips out below the knee. The garment fit like a glove, and that second-skin made me feel sexy and confident,” she says. “Whether it’s body-con or an oversize silhouette, I focus on achieving that feeling when picking my clothes.”

And of course when her music inspires the people making those clothes, it makes the art of dressing seem more like a collaboration. “It’s a very fulfilling experience to see my music paired with another artist’s blood, sweat, and tears,” says Kelela who recently released her new EP, Hallucinogen, a follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2013 debut mixtape, Cut 4 Me. “I know a lot of the designers have put so much in, so it’s an honor to provide context for those pieces to shine.”

Janelle Monae’s Paris Fashion Week Hair Owns Our Best Beauty List

Paris Fashion Week Spring 2016 was filled with major moments, including the scenic airport-themed Chanel show to the mini “Game of Thrones” reunion with Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa. But we believe Janelle Monae’s many, many hairstyles stole the spotlight.

The “Yoga” singer was spotted out and about wearing different hairdos to accentuate what she described to Vogue as her “growing, evolving” style. Having worked with Monae since her debut studio album “The ArchAndroid” in 2010, celebrity hairstylist Caprice Green told The Huffington Post that the two always “start out with some sort of game plan” when discussing hairstyle for Fashion Week. “However, it doesn’t always go as planned,” said Green. “The clothes from the designers sort of determined the look each day.”

From her signature pompadour topped with a cherry-red Kristina Dragomir heart cap to a beautiful beehive adorned with Chanel accessories, Monae and her hairstylist have pushed the boundaries on what’s considered to be “natural hair.”

Scroll down to see Monae’s hairstyles from Paris Fashion Week and to learn what Green considered when creating each look.

1. “What a time to be alive” has become a popular Twitter adage most often employed with sarcasm, but at Louis Vuitton, Nicolas Ghesquière focused his hawk eyes on the ins and outs of our contemporary era, sending out clothes inspired by and suited for the now. We’re calling his leather jackets, low-slung shorts, and crop tops the ideal pieces for a “digital bohemia.”

2. Ghesquière’s front row guests were just as enthused with his Spring collection—hear what Michelle Williams, Alicia Vikander, and Miranda Kerr think in our exclusive video.

3. Get to know the new models who walked at Louis Vuitton today, from art student Teddy Quinlivan to brand-new Dominican face Luisana Gonzalez.

4. The fashion world awoke to news this morning that Balenciaga had named a new artistic director of collections: Vetements’s Demna Gvasalia.

5. Plaids mixed with tulle mixed with glittering boots at Miu Miu in an expression of moody toughness that only Mrs. Prada could execute.

The Coolest Kids in Paris Don’t Have to Try Too Hard to Look Good

Paul Hameline

Away from the bolder-is-better statement looks of Paris Fashion Week exists a street style with a quieter edge—one that the native, baby-faced club kids preternaturally possess. Photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti turned his lens on them recently, capturing their perfectly lived-in denim, distressed sneakers, threadbare tees, and oh-so-casually tossed-on outerwear, a uniform that lends itself to late-night antics and dancing until dawn. These stylish Parisians—designer Simon Porte Jacquemus among them—reveal the stylized collision of fashion, music, and androgyny in the City of Light.

Document Magazine Hosts Paris Dinner

FANTASY DINNER: Document magazine and stylist Olivier Rizzo hosted a dinner in Paris on Saturday night to celebrate the New York-based title’s fall issue.
There was an intimate vibe in the salon of Lapérouse, the art-stuffed, 18th-century restaurant on the Left Bank where the event took place.
Miuccia Prada, Raf Simons, Kris Van Assche and Simon Porte Jacquemus were among the attendees.
“It’s like a dream. It’s so perfect,” said Nick Vogelson, who cofounded Document with James Valeri, speaking of the guest list. “We chose this venue because Miuccia presented her first Miu Miu collection here.”
Jacquemus had an addition to his own fantasy dinner invitee lineup.
“I would add my cousin. It would be fun to have a child joining the table,” the designer said, referring to seven-year-old Jean, who made a sensation opening Jacquemus’ spring show. “Everything is seen differently through the eyes of a child.”
Has the experience been life-changing for Jean?
“He’s just happy he’s skipping school,” Jacquemus said with a laugh, agreeing people will keep an eye out for what’s up next for Jean and Hudson Kroenig, Karl Lagerfeld’s godson, today’s It kids of the fashion world.
Meanwhile, guests indulged on foie gras, beef and caramel soufflé – the restaurant’s signature dessert. And after

Farfetch Celebrates Brazilian Fashion in Paris

BRAZILIAN BASH: «I’m celebrating them, they are celebrating me — it’s a Brazilian night,» enthused Barbara Casasola at a dinner party hosted by Farfetch and Vogue Brazil, with Alexia Niedzielski as the host, on Sunday night.
Casasola, who shows her ready-to-wear line in London, has designed her very first bag, which will make its debut on Farfetch through the Bluebird boutique at 495 pounds, or $ 750.
«It’s called 1984 — my year of birth. I work a lot with pleats, so I pleated the leather. It’s a cross-body bag, but I like wearing it like this,» she explained, throwing the item over the shoulder.
«We are very supportive of Brazilian designers, being the only online luxury Web site service in Brazil. We have a local customer service, over 100 people working there,» said Farfetch founder José Neves.
Farfetch ships «duties included, in local currency, and in split payments, because Brazilians don’t pay in one go, they pay in installments,» he explained.
Following the online retailer’s foray into the Australian market and with 10 local offices set around the world, Neves says he now has «90 percent of all major e-commerce markets covered, but there is still places to go. Southeast Asia with Malaysia, Thailand and

Marimekko Makes Moves in Paris: A New Direction for Jackie O’s Favorite Everyday Label

marimekko

In 1960, as her husband was campaigning for election as POTUS, Jacqueline Kennedy bought seven dresses from the Finnish print company Marimekko. Ka-pow! In a very early version of totally authentic and unmediated-by-agent product placement, this company won itself a little niche in American fashion folklore. But there is much more to Marimekko than Jackie O’s patronage—much more even than Maija Isola’s gorgeous 1964 Unikko floral print. In 2015, this is a significant international business, with 50 percent of its income generated by apparel sales.

That was the stat delivered by Anna Teurnell, Marimekko’s creative director of one year, as she showcased her contribution. “And 91 percent of our employees are women!” chimed in Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko, the company’s president. Teurnell launched & Other Stories, the highly successful, higher-priced diffusion brand of H&M, before landing at Marimekko, and you could see the building blocks of a diversification strategy in the mac, the parka, and the poppy-pink cargo pants in her lineup. The soul of Marimekko, though, is print, and here it was at the fore in a series of perfectly lovable pieces in a mixture of cotton and crepe. That orange dress was a particular stunner. “We want to bring color into ordinary life,” said Teurnell—or, in Jackie O’s case, an extraordinary life. Marimekko showed it is still doing today what it was doing then: delivering unpretentious pop and pattern.

Pas de Calais Sets First Paris Shop

PIED-À-TERRE: Pas de Calais, a Japanese brand named after the northern region of France, celebrated the opening of its first flagship in Paris’ trendy Marais area on Wednesday.
“The store will help us raise brand awareness in Europe, where our business is not as large as in the U.S.,” said the label’s chief executive officer Kobayashi Tsukasa, noting the Continent accounts for about 30 percent of total turnover at present.
Designer Yukari Suda said the fall collection was directly inspired by Pas de Calais’ moody weather, which translated into various shades of gray, white as well as creamy tones.
Cashmere, silk and organic, hand-woven Indian Khadi dominated the graceful lineup packed with practical and easy options.
Tie-dyed silk dresses and bathrobe-y cashmere coats stood out in particular.
“I always wanted to create comfortable garments that feel soft on the skin,” said Suda, who is also an avid collector of vintage lace from Pas de Calais, which she incorporates into her collections.
Pieces retail from $ 250 for a top; dresses average between $ 400 and $ 600, while coats start at $ 1,000.
The roughly 800-square-foot unit at 15 Rue de Poitou, which replaces former multibrand store Shine, matches the brand’s organic, artisanal feel, featuring textured walls, rustic, wooden furniture and hand-laid wooden floors resembling an arty jigsaw puzzle.

1. At Haider Ackermann guests were treated to a rainbow of vibrant colors, from the lemon yellow of loose cargo pants to the sea blue of a velvet blazer.

4. Activism might have been the name of the game at Vivienne Westwood, but you can’t argue with her embellished blazers or bias-cut dresses.

5. It’s hard to say which was bigger at Comme des Garçons: the models’ hair or Rei Kawakubo’s plush creations.

Everything You Need to Know About Day Three of Paris Fashion Week

paris fashion week lanvin

The fashion scene was abuzz with the news out of Paris Fashion Week’s third day, from the supermodels on Balmain’s runway to the upside-down ones on Rick Owens’s. Get the scoop on those stories and more here.

1. The day started at Chloé, where Clare Waight Keller crafted an ode to women recognizable by one name only: “Kate, Chloé, Cecilia, Corinne, Rosemary, Emma, and Courtney.” The results ranged from rave-ready pants to dreamy day dresses.

2. Julien Dossena sent out pieces at Paco Rabanne that played on fashion’s dual obsessions: athleisure and nostalgia. We think they’d fare best at this summer’s music festivals, places where the cool factor is just as important as the comfort one.

3. Olivier Rousteing presented a slinky safari at Balmain today that culminated in a series of cascading ruffles.

4. At Balmain, Sam McKnight readied Rousteing’s army with bombshell ponytails, telling Vogue.com, “She’s sexy, yes, but she’s really more of a warrior.”

5. Behold, the week’s most exciting star snaps, including the unlikely pairing of Diplo and Travis Scott at Balmain.

6. Rick Owens, Paris’s resident fashion philosopher, offered a treatise of women’s strength, harnessing models together for their march out. Oh, and there was some relatable ready-to-wear, too.

7. There was a certain “greatest hits” mood at Alber Elbaz’s Spring collection for Lanvin, with reworkings of the themes he knows and loves: deconstruction, sequins, loose glamour, and the house of Lanvin itself.

8. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself reaching for the bobby pins and bows this weekend. Guido Palau’s artfully messed chignons at Lanvin were as charming as Elbaz’s clothes.

Kevin Systrom, Alessandro Michele, and Anna Wintour

9. Phoebe, Alessandro, Donatella, and more turned out for Vogue’s dinner in honor of Instagram’s Kevin Systrom.

International Designers Set Up Showrooms for Paris Fashion Week

PARIS — Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen aren’t the only out-of-town designers with Paris on their mind. Czech, Chinese, German and Belgian creators, among others, set up showrooms to attract international attention during Paris Fashion Week.
The French fashion’s governing body dubs the designers coming as far afield as China, Finland, Austria and Great Britain as “Les Bienvenus à Paris” (“The Welcome to Paris”).
Paris has always appreciated talented non-French designers — think Raf Simons at Dior, Phoebe Philo at Céline, the fashion collective behind Vêtements or Sacai’s Chitose Abe — who show in Paris.
The Row slipped a presentation into the already-packed Paris calendar on the first day of the season, giving a strong signal that Paris is more than ever a huge draw.
Around 50,000 professionals flow into the City of Light for its fashion week.
“Paris is a lab to discover [talents]….Paris is to fashion what Silicon Valley is to new technologies,” said Serge Carreira, a lecturer at Sciences Po Paris.
Pre Helsinki, an event aiming to raise awareness of Finnish designers, returns to Paris for its third installment. Satu Maaranen, the platform’s cofounder and creative director and a past Hyères winner, explained: “Paris is the most important area to be represented in, in

Everything You Need to Know About Day Two of Paris Fashion Week

maison margiela spring 2016

It’s safe to say that a little glitz has made its way to Paris Fashion Week. It was there in the crystal trimming at Maison Margiela, the sequin embellishment at Dries Van Noten, and—most of all—the gilded affair held in the Tuileries by Pat McGrath and Vogue.com to celebrate the launch of her first product, a shimmering gold pigment. Catch up on all that news and more from the City of Light, below.

1. In between the shows, Pat McGrath and Vogue took over the Tuileries offering golden makeovers to lucky guests. Among the revelers were Bella Hadid, Stella Maxwell, and Jamie Bochert.

2. But before McGrath hit the Tuileries, she crafted a space-age silvery look at Maison Margiela.

Photo: Kim Weston Arnold / Indigitalimages.com

3. But what of the Margiela looks? John Galliano sent out one of his most commercially viable collections yet, with cropped blazers, ankle-length skirts, and plenty of accessories. That isn’t to say it wasn’t an artful trip through his many inspirations, from ’50s ladies to Japanese geishas.

4. Galliano’s bias-cut skirts at Maison Margiela know no gender. Meet the male models who strutted out on the designer’s catwalk.

5. With flowy blouses printed with phrases lifted from Paul Nougé poems (“Je suis belle on me l’a dit” appeared on a roomy blouse), the Lemaire woman was feeling good this season. Perhaps because, as one editor confided, she was planning on dropping $ 1,000 on pieces from the brand’s Uniqlo collab.

6. One can always count on Dries Van Noten for a phantasmagoria of color and print, but this season was really something. Inspired by women of impeccable—and adventurous—personal style like Madonna and Peggy Guggenheim, the designer sent out swirling furniture prints, sequin embellished jackets, and semi-transparent turtlenecks that added a surreal styling twist.

7. “Location, location, location!” goes the adage about New York City real estate, and as two New Yorkers, Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen must know it well. They chose a château outside Paris to stage a show for their top clientele, presenting their shirred chiffon minidresses and flowing caftans against a romantic scene.

8. What Virgil Abloh does with the simple inspiration of jeans and a T-shirt at Off-White is anything but basic. See the designer’s latest in experimentation here.

9. Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant’s debut at Courrèges focused on updated permutations of the Courrèges classics.

Kiton Launches Eyewear Line in Paris

NEAPOLITAN STYLE: Italian tailoring brand Kiton launched its eyewear with a gourmet soiree at its Paris store on Friday night. Amid its suits, chef Nino di Costanzo served the best of Neapolitan cuisine, a nod to the brand’s southern Italian roots.
Over aubergine bruschetta and crunchy sfogliatella, the region’s cream-stuffed pastry, Kiton chief executive officer Antonio De Matteis explained: “The glasses are supposed to be like a good suit. Every piece is custom-made for us and carefully assembled one by one.”
The eight styles of optical frames and sunglasses in 12 colors are made of titanium and cellulose acetate that is produced for Kiton by Mazzucchelli. The frames’ screws mimic those of Kiton’s tailoring scissors, while the lenses come from Barberini.
According to De Matteis, it’s the first time this Italian optics specialist produced a lens as thin and as flat as this one. “It’s a so-called basic lens 2. Usually, the industry uses a lens 6, so this makes the glasses ultra-light, while keeping a high performance,” the executive explained.
The men’s collection, which retails between 400 euros, or $ 446 at current exchange, and 700 euros, or $ 782, is slated to grow by two to three styles per season, while a ladies’ line

Wool Gets the Spotlight at Paris Museum

PARIS – A flock of sheep invaded the Palais de Tokyo in Paris this weekend as part of a global awareness campaign orchestrated by The Woolmark Company.
The three-day event, ending Sunday, includes artwork made of wool, a photo exhibit about the natural fibre, and a series of dance performances showing off wool’s versatile nature.
Brands, including Adidas, which developed running apparel based on wool, and Dormeuil, supplier of fine wool fabrics to bespoke tailors including Cifonelli, Camps de Luca and Brioni, set up stands to let visitors get physical.
WWD caught up with Peter Ackroyd, global strategy advisor for The Woolmark Company, at the event.
WWD: What is so special about wool?
Peter Ackroyd: Its diversity. It can be made into suits, blankets or sportswear, and we think we don’t even know all the end-uses of wool. But it’s not only a very diverse fibre — at the end of its life it goes back to earth and enriches the soil. It doesn’t end up as landfill. We put a wool sweater next to an acrylic sweater in Prince of Wales’ garden. In five months, the wool sweater has almost entirely gone back to nature, the acrylic one — you just shook it and put it

Karl Lagerfeld to Get Photo Exhibition in Paris

KARL IN THE FRAME: Karl Lagerfeld trains his camera on wherever his varied interests take him: fashion, architecture, Paris at night and all manner of personalities.
All that and more will be reflected in “Karl Lagerfeld: A Visual Journey,” an exhibition of his photography slated to open Oct. 16 and run until March 20 at the Pinacothèque de Paris, a private museum just behind the Madeleine Church.
The showcase is being chosen by publisher Gerhard Steidl and Eric Pfrunder, image director at Chanel and one of the designer’s chief image collaborators, who in 1987 encouraged Lagerfeld to try his hand shooting the photos for a Chanel press kit. That would open up a new career path for the German designer, who would go on to shoot campaigns for Chanel, Fendi, Dior Homme and others, along with editorial shoots, and a slew of artistic projects for exhibitions or books.
“People always want to know about my style of photography. I can’t answer that,” according to Lagerfeld. “That’s up to viewers to decide. I don’t have a style, but several, or none. You should never stay still, neither in life, nor in fashion, nor in photography.”
Similarly, Lagerfeld experiments with all kinds of photographic and printing

Designers Named for CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund’s Americans in Paris

NEXT STOP PARIS: As New York Fashion Week starts to wind down, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen aren’t the only designers with Paris on their minds. The Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue have unrolled the roster for the ninth season of CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund’s Americans in Paris.
The France-bound designers are Orley’s Alex, Matthew and Samantha Orley; Edie Parker’s Brett Heyman; Simon Miller’s Daniel Corrigan and Jake Sargent; Eva Fehren’s Eva Zuckerman; Gigi Burris Millinery’s Gigi Burris; Grey Ant’s Grant Krajecki and Natalie Levy; Ryan Roche, and Tanya Taylor. Zuckerman and Roche were runners-up for last year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.
During Paris Fashion Week, all of the above will be showing their collections to retailers from Oct. 3 to 5 at Le 8 Vavois, which is located at 8 Rue de Valois. In addition to the showroom space, Americans in Paris provides sales, marketing and media support to participants to help them expand their  businesses.
Steven Kolb, president and chief executive officer of the CFDA, said, “Americans in Paris continues to put forward CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund designers who represent a level of talent that can compete in today’s global market.”

Hermès Brings ‘Flânerie’ Exhibition to Paris

RIVER DANCE: Hermès found a terrific location for the Paris leg of its roving “Wanderland” exhibition dedicated to flânerie, or the act of wandering the city streets and drinking in the details of everyday life. The French house perchaed a rectangular tent on the riverbank roads known as Les Berges that are now closed to traffic and open for leisure and fitness – or just sitting in a cafe and watching the world go by.
Hosting a press preview on Thursday morning, Pierre-Alexis Dumas, artistic director of Hermès, described the exhibition as an invitation to discover flânerie, a philosophy and practice with roots in the 19th-century, and distinctly Parisian.
Indeed, the fantastical displays are designed to disorient, and command attention to fine – and often funny – details. Consider the French bulldog sporting an Hermès dinner plate in lieu of a collar in front of a thumping venue signed “Hot Dog Club” – or café tables inset with quirky objects that give clues about the person who sat there.
“Wanderland” debuted at the Saatchi Gallery in London last April and attracted some 112,000 visitors, according to Hermès. It is headed to Dubai next January and slated to make stops in China and Korea

Nina Ricci Refreshes Paris Flagship

MODERN TIMES: Nina Ricci’s new creative director Guillaume Henry could be spotted in the French firm’s Avenue Montaigne boutique on Monday. He was overseeing the hanging of his debut fall-winter 2015 collection amidst a new minimalist décor: White walls; a black carpet; angular silver rails for clothes; glass cubes for leather goods.
The shop had been closed for three weeks for what Ralph Toledano, president of fashion at Puig, Ricci’s parent, called an “interim refresh” telegraphing a more modern direction for the brand.

Zoe Cassavetes Said Directing Film for Ritz Paris

PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ?: Could Zoe Cassavetes have directed a film for the Ritz relaunch?
Word has it the director of “Broken English” has shot a film involving fashion people and designers for the reopening of Paris’ mythic, five-star hotel.
A spokeswoman for the Ritz Paris had no comment.
There’s a lot of anticipation for the reopening — the hotel is officially taking reservations from March 14 — billed as the biggest refurbishment in the history of the 117-year-old establishment.
Cassavetes, the daughter of actor and filmmaker John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands, is very much plugged into the fashion world. Her fashion credentials include being a muse of Marc Jacobs, participating in Miu Miu’s “Women’s Tales” — and being a front-row regular at fashion shows.

Australian Designers to Show in Paris

AUSSIES TAKE TO PARIS AND NEW YORK: After four seasons showing off-schedule in Paris, 31-year-old Perth designer Kym Ellery is moving up to the major leagues. On Oct. 6 at 9.30 a.m. at a to-be-confirmed Paris venue, Ellery will show her spring 2016 collection as part of the Chambre Syndicale’s official schedule for the first time.
Known for her voluminous tailoring and signature oversize bell sleeves and bell-bottom flares, the designer looked for inspiration this season to the 1969 Wrapped Coast project by French environmental sculptors Christo and Jeanne-Claude, which saw 1.5 miles of Sydney’s coastline wrapped in one million square feet of fabric and rope. Ellery’s collection riffs on the draping and wrapping of the body via drawstrings and metal eyelets, many iterations of the cotton shirt and prints inspired by Australian flora and marine coral.
“It feels a little surreal, but also like I’ve been given the green light to just go hard,” Ellery said of being on the official Paris schedule.
Ellery forms part of an expanded Oz presence in Paris this season. Taking a leaf out of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund’s Americans in Paris book, the Australian Fashion Chamber will stage a 3,767-square-foot Australian Designers Abroad showroom at No.

Olsens to Show The Row Spring Collection in Paris

New York already has one major fashion show incoming from Paris this season with Givenchy; now Paris has one coming from New York.
The Row has moved off the New York calendar and onto the Paris schedule. No other details, including date, time, location or reason, could be learned, as a spokesperson for Ashley’s and Mary-Kate Olsen’s company declined to give specifics at this time.
But this has happened once before. Five years ago for the spring 2011 season, the Olsens cancelled their New York show, and ultimately popped up on the Paris schedule due to sample delays.
Since launching The Row in 2006, the Olsens have built it into a formidable business with 164 points of distribution in 37 countries with industry insiders estimating $ 50 million in annual sales. Along the way, the sisters have transformed their reputation from former child stars to legitimate aesthetes and serious designers with more than one CFDA Award under their belts.
They’ve also become closely associated with New York, where the company is headquartered and where they proudly produce nearly all of their collection. They have become champions for local production and craftsmanship, participating in the Barneys Made in New York collection, which is in stores now.

YSL Safari Jacket to Get Paris Showcase

SAND STORM: French stylist, designer and collector Olivier Châtenet is hoping to share his passion for vintage fashion with the world. He has assembled around 15 looks incorporating the famous YSL saharienne, or safari jacket, from 1969 to around 1975. They will be on display at the Salon du Vintage, a vintage fair held on Oct. 17 and 18 at the Carreau du Temple in Paris.
“[The sarahienne] had various variations including trench coat, dress, jumpsuit, with lacing, and a palette of sandy tones,”Châtenet explained. “The first one was worn by Veruschka in Vogue Paris in 1968. Then, it was part of the collection in 1969.”
Considered a specialist on Yves Saint Laurent, Châtenet recently worked as a consultant on Bertrand Bonello’s “Saint Laurent” biopic. He owns more than 3,000 pieces from Yves Saint Laurent. “I stopped counting after 3,200,” he said with a laugh.

Paris, Mike Foley

A businessman comes home one day to find his beautiful and voluptuous wife naked in the bath. He watches from the doorway for a moment, and she doesn’t notice because she’s too busy rubbing her own clitoris! He walks in, reaching between her legs to finger her hole. She sits on the edge of the bath and he goes down on her. She tries not to look at his obvious bald spot while he tongues her snatch! Then she bends over with her ass stuck out, and he continues to lick both her holes from the rear until she cums. She gives him a blow job and then he fucks her briefly doggystyle before pulling out to shoot his thick squirt over her back.
