ROOM TO BREATHE: With getting outdoors being top-of-mind for many as summer approaches, Free People has finalized a yearlong partnership with the National Park Foundation to help draw attention to the national parks.
As part of the deal, the Philadelphia-based company has donated $ 100,000 to the foundation and will be encouraging consumers to get out in the open air through monthly community events. A launch celebration was held at the Joshua Tree National Park highlighted with wellness events, a guided hike and farm-to-table meals. In addition, Free People plans to donate 25 cents from every transaction to the NPF, when a customer opts to not have a shopping bag or uses a reusable one in stores. Brands are increasingly championing wellness and sustainability to appeal to environmentally minded shoppers.
Chartered by Congress in 1967, the NPF raises private funds to help protect more than 84 million acres of national parks through critical conservation and preservation efforts among other things. L.L. Bean is also helping shoppers find the national parks. Last summer the Maine-based company extended its support with a multi-year $ 3 million premier partnership with the National Park Foundation for the Find Your Park/Encuentra Tu Parque movement. L.L. Veronica Beard Comes to Highland Park
DALLAS — Veronica Beard is on a roll.
The seven-year-old sportswear maker unveils a 1,200-square-foot boutique today in Highland Park Village, the tony shopping center that sits squarely amid the mansions of Dallas’ wealthiest neighborhood. It’s the third store the company has opened since last August and more are to come.
“Retail is working for us, and we’re so fortunate to be bucking the trend,” said co-founder Veronica Swanson Beard. “We found the openings in New York really helped our business [at other stores that carry the brand.]”
Dallas runs neck and neck with Los Angeles as Veronica Beard’s second largest market after New York, she noted. It’s sold here by Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Stanley Korshak and Canary.
Opening two doors a year is a comfortable pace, said Beard, noting the company has no intention of operating dozens of stores. Los Angeles is likely the next target.
Highland Park Village, which also hosts Hermès, Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Fendi, Tory Burch and other marquee brands, was the obvious choice for Beard in Dallas.
“Our customer is here,” Beard affirmed. “We’ve really built a lifestyle brand.”
The core customer is a mom and career woman in her 30s and 40s, though the brand sells to a broader age range,

Ava DuVernay Gets Central Park Five Documentary Green Light From Netflix
The Central Park Five, five Black youth who were falsely accused in the case Central Park jogger rape case in 1989, will be the focus of a new docu-series from Ava DuVernay. As the famed director has done in the past, DuVernay is partnering with Netflix to bring the limited series to life.
Variety reports:
Participant Media, Tribeca Productions and Harpo Films are behind the limited series with Oprah Winfrey, Jeff Skoll, Jonathan King, Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh serving as executive producers alongside DuVernay. The project is the latest collaboration for Winfrey and DuVernay who worked together on the Oscar-winning “Selma” and OWN’s “Queen Sugar.” For DuVernay, the project marks a return to Netflix for the filmmaker who wrote and directed the platform’s 2016 documentary “13th.”
“I had an extraordinary experience working with Netflix on ’13th’ and am overjoyed to continue this exploration of the criminal justice system as a narrative project with Cindy Holland and the team there,” said DuVernay. “The story of the men known as Central Park Five has riveted me for more than two decades. In their journey, we witness five innocent young men of color who were met with injustice at every turn — from coerced confessions to unjust incarceration to public calls for their execution by the man who would go on to be the President of the United States.”
And if you haven’t seen DuVernay’s 13th documentary, do yourself a favor and fire up the Netflix, but we doubt there will be any chill after viewing the powerful examination of the criminal justice system.

‘South Park’ To Take On Police Violence In New Episode
The national debate on police violence has spread from Ferguson and Baltimore all the way to the small town of South Park, Colorado.
On this Wednesday’s episode of long-running animated series “South Park,” the town’s residents decide to abolish the police because they’re fed up with people who “impose their authority on the underprivileged.” Given the Comedy Central show’s history of iconoclasm, and its focus in Season 19 on political correctness, we’re gonna go ahead and guess that it doesn’t end well.
Here’s a clip from the episode, in which one of the town’s police officers defends his kind, saying that “not all cops are racist, trigger-happy assholes.”
“South Park,” which was created by college friends Trey Stone and Matt Parker, has a long and storied history of tackling controversial topics. Many of its most inflammatory episodes have focused on religious figures like Muhammad to the Virgin Mary.

‘Illuminus’ to Light Up Fenway Park in Boston
LEAVING THE LIGHTS ON IN BOSTON: The lights have gone dark on Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox’s 2015 season, but Saturday night a bevy of artists will illuminate the historic venue like never before with “Illuminus.”
The event will feature installations and performances by artists who manipulate light, sound and projection for a multisensory spectacle. This will be Boston’s contribution to the global “nuit blanche” movement, which was first established in Paris before taking hold in cities around the world. More than 10,000 turned out at last year’s edition in Boston’s SoWa outpost. “Illuminus” will cap off the inaugural HUBweek, a citywide series of experiences laced with art, science and technology pulled together with the support of The Boston Globe, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Artists and musicians Maria Finkelmeier and Ryan Edwards will literally turn Fenway Park’s famed “Green Monster” — the 37-foot, 2-inch left field wall for non-Red Sox fans — into a giant percussion instrument. Other installations and projections will be beamed on nearby Lansdowne Street. We Reminisce: Red, Meth And Others Rock The Lincoln Park Music Festival
Momentarily, we reminisce as we say farewell to Summer 2015 once and for all. The Lincoln Park Music Festival roared into its 10 year and, like always, Hip-Hop Day was the weekend anchor. The day-long affair was another peaceful event in Newark, NJ that offered newer acts as well as certified legends like Redman, Doitall, Method Man and Erick Sermon, among others. Lolë White Tour Aims to Attract Thousands of Yogis to New York’s Central Park
After rolling out mats for nearly 800 yogis in MoMA’s Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden for last year’s installment, organizers of the Lolë White Tour are hoping up to 10,000 Namaste-ers will take part in its Sept. 2 event in Central Park.
An all-white dress code and online registration are the only requirements for the free class, which will be led by Elena Brower, Colleen Saidman Yee and Rodney Yee. Should they choose to, attendees can find plenty of white yoga pieces in the White by Lolë collection. There were 15 discounted options Friday afternoon on its e-commerce site, including the $ 60 Banita tank, the $ 72 Amoda Pants and the $ 120 Sohni Jacket.
Once they’re limbered up, yogis will catch a live performance by indie pop singer Ingrid Michaelson as well as special guest Donna De Lory (a former Madonna backup singer). Bernard Mariette, president and chief executive officer of the $ 100 million Montreal-based brand, will also be front-and-center. Yoga isn’t his only lung-expanding pursuit — he has also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and spoke at the TED x Youth @ Montreal event.

The Game Caught Finger Banging India Love In The Park? (Ignore The Question Mark)
The Game is currently starring in one of those VH1 reality dating contestant shows, but it appears he already has the love angle taking care of.
The Compton rapper was shamelessly photographed at an undisclosed park with Instagram model India Love engaging in some public folly generally reserved for eleventh graders.
One picture shows the two kissing while another features Jayceon playing in between her legs while she tilted her head back in the moment. The money shot was another flick of Game shoving his finger under her nose as if he had conquered her inner scent. Afterwards, he tasted it just to ensure the special sauce had the right consistency.
Nor Game or India have commented on the circulation of the pictures because well, when you’re caught red-han…never mind. That was a pretty poor choice of words.

Anya Hindmarch to Take Over Selfridges’ Car Park
HINDMARCH’S HAUTE HIGHWAY: Anya Hindmarch is set to bring her collection to life at London’s Selfridges by transforming the store’s 16,000-square-foot car park into a stylish gas station.

Launching Sept. 11, the installation will take its cues from Hindmarch’s fall collection, which played with the graphic signage and reflective surfaces of British motorways. For the Selfridges project, Hindmarch has specifically taken the M25 — the motorway that encircles London — as her inspiration. But the designer will offer a luxe take on the workaday highway. She’ll kit out the car park with black carpet printed with chevron stripes, install a car wash-themed photo booth and a kiosk selling air fresheners and bumper stickers, as well as a snack bar serving up British candy bars, among them KitKats and Yorkies.
The space will carry Hindmarch’s fall collection featuring the motorway motifs, along with her classic pieces, with styles such as the Ephson, Ebury and Bathurst handbags, along with the Imperial clutch. Prices in the Selfridges space will run from 40 pounds, or $ 62 at current exchange, for a bumper sticker through to 2,750 pounds, or $ 4,322, for an Ebury handbag in python. Of her starting point

It’s Disneyland, wrapped in a nightmare.
On Thursday, images and video captured inside “Dismaland,” Banksy’s new art exhibition/dystopian amusement park, began making the rounds on social media. They offer a glimpse into a world that’s predictably dark, bizarre and full of satire.
There’s a statue of Little Mermaid, looking oddly distorted, and a sculpture of Cinderella’s carriage overturned in an accident. The Grim Reaper can be spotted riding in a bumper car, and a killer whale is seen jumping out of a toilet bowl, among other installments.
In an interview with the BBC, Banksy described the so-called “bemusement park” – which also features work from Damien Hirst, Jenny Holzer, Jimmy Cauty and other artists — as a “family theme park unsuitable for children.”
He added that the show, his biggest to date, will require plenty of “audience participation.”
“A dead princess is only complete when surrounded by gawping crowds with their cameras out, or the opportunity to photograph yourself pulling an amazed expression when a killer whale leaps from a toilet,” the enigmatic artist said.

Dismaland will be open to the public from August 22 to September 27 in Weston-super-Mare, a seaside town in Somerset, England.
The show is taking place on the site of a former leisure park called Tropicana. The now-derelict building and grounds on the Tropicana site have been closed for 15 years, reports the BBC.

Ralph Lauren Stages Children’s Fall Fashion Show at Central Park Zoo
CUTE OVERLOAD: New York’s Central Park Zoo was transformed into a Neverland-themed playground for Ralph Lauren’s kids’ fashion show on Wednesday night as stylish uptown moms and their tots flooded the outdoor space to watch several dozen pint-size runway models show off looks from the fall collection. In addition to 12-year-old Levi Miller — who stars alongside Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara in the upcoming film “Pan” — the cast also included 12-year-old Maddie Ziegler of “Dance Moms” fame. “There are a lot of rising stars here,” said David Lauren, executive vice president of advertising, marketing and communications for the company, after the show. “We cast through friends and family, but there are a couple of young people that are aspiring actors and actresses. When we did this years ago, Jennifer Connelly walked the show. And of course [tonight] there is Levi [Miller], who’s gonna be the biggest star in the world soon.”

Lanvin Heads to Sheraton Park Lane for Ad Campaign
RICH LIFE: Told Queen Elizabeth II had her first dance in the ballroom of the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London, Alber Elbaz was smitten with that glamorous tale, and made the Art Deco room the location for Lanvin’s fall ad campaign.
“I love places that are not yet renovated,” he said. “This time, I wanted to have a story. As we are now in an image epoch.”
Elbaz also carried over the family theme from previous campaigns, casting two sets of twin models — Baylee and Kelsey Soles and Erik and Niek Put — along with sister act Reba and Jess Maybury.
Mirrors, face-concealing hats and densely patterned carpets add to the drama to Elbaz’s Moroccan tinged fall collection. Slated to break in a range of September magazines, the ads were shot by Tim Walker with creative direction by Ronnie Newhouse and Stephen Wolstenholme of House + Holme.
The French house is also planning newsstand placements in Paris and New York and light boxes in China and Hong Kong.
The print campaign for men breaks in the July issue of L’Uomo Vogue. A video is to follow in September.

BET BIDS FAREWELL TO “106 & PARK”
Original hosts Free and AJ returned to the stage this evening to give a proper farewell to BETs groundbreaking show”106 & Park.” Hitting the airwaves in 2000, the countdown became a launching pad for a variety of artists and celebrities alike, as they turned to the show to stay in touch with a younger generation.
After deciding to pull the show in favor of a digital only format, the network officially closed a chapter which has included Big Tigger, Terrence J, Rocsi Diaz, Julissa, Bow Wow, Miss Mykie and more.

Park Ranger Deryl Nelson Claims He Was Fired For Dancing On The Job
A park ranger’s love of public dancing may have sent him waltzing into the unemployment line.
Deryl Nelson, 51, worked at Coolidge Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for seven years. About a year into into the job, he drew cheers for joining a group of visitors doing the Macarena.
After that, there was no stopping him and he would boogie oogie oogie at impromptu moments.
“It’s all about enjoying what you do and that’s the way I feel,” Nelson said told WRCB TV. “[It’s] clean fun. It’s nothing like doing any bumping and grinding.”
Some say otherwise.
Work was a kick for Nelson until recently when he was booted off the job after a woman named Melissa Parsons filmed one of his dance sessions and posted it online.
The raw video of Nelson’s dance shows him at one point laying on the ground with his legs folded under his body while he seems to pump his pelvis towards the sky.
“As a parent and seeing all the parents that were covering their kids eyes and turning their heads away, it wasn’t something you would expect to see in Coolidge Park or anywhere from a grown man, especially a man in uniform,” Parsons told NewsChannel9.com. “He went all the way to the ground, he came back up from the ground, he was grabbing areas that you would see on a rated R movie.”

When Nelson’s supervisors saw the video, they terminated him for what the city calls, “conduct unbecoming a public employee.”
Chattanooga city officials say they do not comment on personnel matters, but this isn’t Nelson’s first dance with danger.
According to city records, Nelson was suspended for crashing a car while on duty. In 2013, he was suspended for five days for “addressing inappropriate remarks to a co-worker,” according to UPI.com.
Last year, he also won an award from the police department for helping save a woman’s life at the park, MercuryNews.com reported.
News about Nelson’s termination has moved some people to their feet.
A Facebook group called Bring Back Deryl Nelson: The Dancing Park Ranger has attracted about 486 supporters, about the same number that has signed a Change.org petition addressed to the City of Chattanooga.
Nelson refuses to take the termination lying down — literally — and wants his job back.
“This is my song and nothing going to bring me down,” he said, according to TimesFreePress.com. “I love life and I love dancing!”
