Netflix Working on Biopic of Nike’s Founder Phil Knight

University of Florida v Duke University

Source: Steve Dykes / Getty

Even though adidas has been making hella moves to become one of the hottest sneaker brands in the game, Nike continues to reign supreme in the culture and Netflix is working on founder Phil Knight’s documentary to show heads how a $ 50 startup became a billion dollar conglomerate.

Engadget is reporting that the media service provider has tapped Jurassic World’s Frank Marshal to produce a biopic based on Knight’s NY Times bestselling memoir, Shoe Dog, and will enlist The People V OJ Simpson writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to pen the screenplay. Knight himself will also play a role in the biopic as the film’s co-producer.

“It’s an amazing tale about what the path to success really looks like, with its mistakes, struggles, sacrifice and even luck,” said Marshall in a statement. Shoe Dog was published in 40 languages and sits at number four on the NY Times best seller list for paperback nonfiction.

For anyone looking to get into the sneaker or clothing brand business the upcoming biopic might have some helpful jewels as to how to get themselves established.

No word yet on a release date but we’re sure sneakerheads and sneaker enthusiasts will be patiently waiting to see how their favorite sneaker brand came to be.

A Woman Says She Believes Her Ex Molested Their Daughter; Why Dr. Phil Has Questions About Her Claims

“I believe that Dan sexually molested our daughter,” says Gina about her ex-husband. “When Alexis was 2 ½, out of the blue Alexis told me that her dad gave her “owies [in her private parts].”

Gina says she confronted Dan about it 16 years ago, and he denied then, and continues to absolutely deny, the accusations, but she says she believed her daughter. “She would say that Daddy touched her with a scissors, or she would say that Daddy touched her with a knife,” Gina claims. “I watched Alexis’ behaviors totally just change. She started becoming withdrawn. She had nightmares, she was wetting the bed.”

Gina claims she went to the police but says, “There was no physical evidence, so they said it was his word against hers.”

Dan is adamant that he has never molested his daughter and claims that Gina unleashed a campaign to destroy him after he broke up with her. “She wasn’t letting me see my kids, so I took her to court. That’s when she said, ‘Oh, by the way, he’s molesting his daughter,’” Dan says. “To hear those words come out of her mouth when everyone’s looking at you, it makes you want to crawl underneath a rock and just die. She decided she would use the kids as pawns to hurt me. The accusations completely destroyed my relationship with my daughter.”

Dan continues, “I waited for the last 15 years to clear my name, a chance to let my daughter know that I’m not the monster her mother has portrayed me to be, a chance to start healing our relationship and be in her life.”

“Did you or did you not molest your daughter?” Dr. Phil asks Dan in the video above.

“One hundred percent did not,” Dan replies.

After reviewing a timeline of events from back then, Dr. Phil asks Gina why she would willingly have her daughter spend time with a man she claimed molested their child, after she had first made the allegations. “As a mother, believing that this man molested your daughter, you consciously and knowingly continued to deliver her into his hands for four months,” he says. “You are the first mother, first, in 45 years, that has ever said, ‘My daughter is being molested by a man, and I’m going to deliver her into his hands for four more months,’ knowing what he is doing to her. In 45 years, this is a first for me. You are the first.”

“I didn’t want to believe it,” Gina says.

On Tuesday’s episode of Dr. Phil, see what happens when Dan takes a polygraph. Will it help clear his name? And, find out what happens after the show, when Gina asks to take a polygraph. Check here to see where you can watch.

Man Behind ‘Oprah,’ ‘Dr. Phil’ Remembered At Star-Studded Memorial Service

A who’s who of Hollywood, music and politics gathered last night at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles to celebrate the life of Michael King, the much-beloved syndication king behind wildly successful shows like Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Roseanne and Dr. Phil. King passed away suddenly March 27 at age 67 from complications of pneumonia.

Former President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Norman Lear, Elton John, Whoopi Goldberg and Sugar Ray Leonard, among others, remembered King as an “intellectual” but “street-smart” businessman, a generous philanthropist and exceptionally kind and devoted friend, brother, husband, father and uncle. Kenny G, Michael Bolton and David Foster performed at the invitation-only event, held by King’s wife, Jena and children Ali, Audrey, Teddy and Jesse.

As Clinton remarked later in the program, referencing a poem by William Wordsworth, King’s “last best hope of his great good life were the unforgettable acts of kindness, love and laughter. We are all here because we basked in his embrace.”

White floral arrangements and candles in tall glass votives set a peaceful scene as bagpipes welcomed 400-plus guests, including Bobby Kennedy Jr., Sylvester Stallone and Jennifer Flavin, Don Henley and Joe Walsh from The Eagles, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, producer Lawrence Bender and acrots Tommy Chong, Paul Reiser and Lorraine Bracco.

A bagpipe rendition of “Amazing Grace” marked the start of the service, after which Monsignor Lloyd Torgerson from St. Monica’s Church in Santa Monica, California led those gathered in prayer.

King’s children then came on stage, the oldest three giving emotional, at times tearful, speeches about their love for their dad — and his love for them. Eldest daughter and singer Ali said King was “the funniest person I know.” Son Teddy, a student at the University of Southern California, called his father his “best friend.” Teenage daughter Audrey welcomed guests and spoke on behalf of her mother, who was seated in the audience, then read two searing poems she wrote herself, leaving many attendees in tears.

In one, titled “Poem For My Mom,” she wrote:

A love so intangible, is that much
More alluring-
That much more passionate.
When you feel the cold wind
Just know it is him kissing your neck,
Teasing your senses,
Reminding you
He loves you.

Teddy introduced the former president with an anecdote of a trip he took with his dad and Clinton to South Africa, where the trio had gone to do charity work and visit Nelson Mandela. A known jokester, King impersonated Clinton, who had fallen asleep in the jeep. The account elicited laughs from the audience.

“Teddy, thanks for that wonderful story, I would far rather be impersonated by your father than anyone I can think of,” Clinton began, to laughter. “I will say this: We have this vast King clan here, and we had the bagpipers playing, and I thought, ‘It is so Michael King, ending with a flourish, an invasion of the Skirball Center by the Irish Catholics.'”

Clinton continued on a serious note, referencing the Charleston shooting on June 18.

“Everywhere in the world is bedeviled by people who are the opposite of Michael King. People who think all that matters is our differences,” Clinton said. “We have more refugees than any time since World War II. It was a terrible, terrible thing that happened in South Carolina yesterday. Michael King is the polar opposite of all that.”

Robert, King’s brother and partner in King World Productions, followed the former president’s remarks, saying his younger brother “would not want us to mourn his death; he’d want us to celebrate.” Older brother Richie offered a few, heartbroken words about the loss of a national treasure, his business partner and his best friend of 67 years. “That’s all I can say,” he said, choking back tears.

Kenny G performed, dedicating his song, “Innocence,” to the family. And tributes, tears and laughter continued.

Collaborator and producer Jeff Wald joked, “I was worried about going on after President Clinton — then I realized I couldn’t do worse than George Bush.”

Producer Norman Lear panned, “There are people all over this town who would die to put a crowd like this together.” Confessing that he had thought King was Jewish throughout their 30-year friendship until just before the memorial service, Lear said, “Jewish. Irish. It doesn’t matter. Michael was the definition of the word ‘mensch.'”

The speeches were interspersed by video tributes from those unable to attend, including Elton John, Whoopi Goldberg and Sugar Ray Leonard. In hers, Oprah Winfrey offered her condolences and shared photos and memories of King. “Here was a man who really knew how to live. He didn’t just live big — he lived huge,” she said.

Major philanthropists to many causes, King and his wife donated to friend, lawyer and speaker Robert Shapiro’s foundation to combat drug addiction, and to Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen’s Oceana foundation, the largest ocean-conservation charity in the world.

“I really felt Michael got to experience the joy of what it means to be human,” Danson said. “He got to love and be loved.”

The event concluded with musical performances by Michael Bolton and producer David Foster, who sent the crowd off on a buoyant note: “Let’s do this right. Everybody get up, scream, shout, and stomp your feet so wherever he is, he can hear us right now.”

Who Gives Better Advice: Steve Harvey Or Dr. Phil?

It’s the “Clash of the Talk Show Titans” when two of daytime’s biggest talk show hosts, Dr. Phil and Steve Harvey, face off in a friendly competition to determine who reigns supreme. After going head to head in physical challenges like golf putting, tennis, an obstacle course, and seeing who could sign more copies of their bestselling books in 60 seconds, they set up an advice stand with a sign declaring, “The Mustaches Are In!”

Watch the video above as advice-seekers determine whose counsel they prefer, including one woman who can’t stand her husband’s mustache. “When we kiss, it’s like little knives, and I hate it,” she says, turning to the mustached hosts for help.

The rivalry between the two TV hosts started last year when Dr. Phil appeared as a guest on Steve Harvey, and Steve admitted that he has a picture of Dr. Phil on his vision board. “You are the reigning king of daytime TV,” Steve explained to Dr. Phil. “So I put you on my vision board, because you have the number on your show that I want on my show.”

The Sweetest Mother’s Day Messages From Dr. Phil And His Son Jay

In the new book A Letter To My Mom, celebrities, everyday people and kids share letters of gratitude to the women who raised them. Watch as Dr. Phil reads an excerpt from the letter he wrote to his mom. Though she passed away three years ago, he speaks to the impact she continues to have on his life and the lives of his wife, Robin, and sons, Jay and Jordan.

He says, “The ‘footprint’ of your willing spirit and loving heart are more deeply etched into us than Jay and Jordan’s baby handprints were in the concrete sidewalk in front of our Texas home. Robin and I marvel at how your kindness, courage, strength, optimism, and rock solid values have found their way into our whole family right down through our grandchildren … Love like yours has such a ‘ripple effect,’ because your tenderness and wisdom has been passed along to the next generation of McGraws.”

Dr. Phil, the only son in a family with four children, adds, “From you, I learned how to be a compassionate, engaged, loving husband, father and man; even at my age, I still do my best to not disappoint you.”

Then, Dr. Phil’s son Jay surprises his mom, Robin, with a heartwarming message of his own. “I’ve always known that I had an amazing mother. But I realized recently that you can’t fully appreciate your parents until you become one yourself,” says Jay, 35, a father of two.

See why the entire audience is moved to tears in the video above.

Why ‘Real Housewife’ Kim Richards Walked Out Of Interview With Dr. Phil

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills co-star Kim Richards opens up to Dr. Phil about the events leading up to her April 16 arrest at the famed Beverly Hills Hotel, but Richards grows anxious during the interview and walks out, as seen in the video above.

Richards, who was arrested for public intoxication and trespassing, as well as resisting arrest and battery on a police officer after she reportedly kicked a cop while at the station, has struggled with alcoholism in the past, and her sobriety was a major storyline this past season on the show. She clashed with many of her cast members, including her sister Kyle, with whom she used to have a close relationship. They alleged that she was not sober, with Richards staunchly defending herself against the allegations.

“I have been sober; I haven’t been working a program,” Richards says on today’s episode of Dr. Phil. She also explains what might have caused her to start drinking again: “Living through this season on the show, sometimes it’s hard enough to get through it. The fans are very hard on me, and I went on [social media] to see what people were saying, and it was just horrible.”

She tells Dr. Phil: “I’m sure some people are having a field day with this, and I don’t really care.”

He responds, “Well, I think you do care what people think. I think that’s a big problem for you. You go read these [social media] things where you get keyboard bullies that tell you what a bitch you are. You’re in the spotlight, and they decide to take your inventory. You read that and obviously, it does bother you, or you wouldn’t have started drinking.”

Dr. Phil suggests Richards may have “unfinished emotional business” that factors into her attempts to cope with alcohol, especially surrounding the death of her fiancé in 1991. “I don’t know very many people who have been talking to someone whom they love on the phone when he gets shot in the head and killed,” he says. “That leaves a mark.”

“There really isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about him,” Richards says through tears.

Asked when she realized her drinking was a problem, Richards recalls that she started drinking alone when she was tending to her ailing mom, who then passed away. “I didn’t have anybody to communicate with,” she says. “I realized I had started to become a person I didn’t like anymore. I couldn’t stand the sight of myself. I would put a towel over the shower because I didn’t want to see myself in the mirror. That was the first time I personally knew I needed help and I wanted help.”

Dr. Phil asks: “Did you think about killing yourself?”

“I’ve said it. I don’t know that I’ve ever meant it,” Richards responds. “I don’t think I could have ever left my kids.”

In the video above, Dr. Phil offers Richards treatment, as she sits alongside three of her four kids, but she responds with concerns about scheduling and location. “I’m interested in one thing and that’s your long term health and well-being,” Dr. Phil tells her. “I’m not interested in your diva needs.”

Richards asks, “Is this an intervention? Because it’s feeling like one right now.” She continues, “I have a lot of anxiety right now. I’m sorry, I can’t.”

ACDC Drummer Phil Rudd Pleads Guilty

After months of proclaiming his innocence, ACDC drummer Paul Rudd surprisingly changed his tune this morning in a New Zealand court and pleaded guilty to threatening to kill and drug charges. Rudd was arrested in November after threatening to kill his assistant. Rudd apparently flew out of control after his solo album flopped and fired employees and even told people he was going to have his assistant killed. While executing a warrant, police also found meth and cannabis. His Lawyer says it was just an angry phone call but if convicted, Rudd faces up to 7 years in prison.

AC/DC Drummer Phil Rudd Pleads Guilty To Drug And Murder Threats Charges

His dirty deeds are done, but weren’t cheap.

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd pleaded guilty Monday to charges that he threatened to murder two people and possessed methamphetamine, according to the New Zealand Herald. Earlier in December, he had pleaded not guilty to the threats charges, as well as charges that he had methamphetamine and 130 grams of marijuana on him when he was arrested.

His home in Tauranga, New Zealand was raided on Nov. 6 last year after he called a man and his daughter, and threatened to kill them. Police initially accused the 60-year-old rock star of masterminding a murder plot against the pair, but dropped that charge the next day.

It wasn’t immediately clear why he changed his plea. The Herald reports that he was silent in court Monday, except to enter his plea, and didn’t respond to questions outside the courthouse. He’ll be sentenced on June 26.

The paper reports:

AC/DC are meanwhile set to play in New Zealand in December with their Rock or Bust World Tour, and Rudd has signaled that he wants his place in the band back.

“I’m going back to work with AC/DC, and I don’t care who likes it and who doesn’t,” he told TVNZ in December.

“I want my job back, I want my reputation back and I’m gonna get it back. I’m gonna f**king take it back.”

Phil Robertson Of ‘Duck Dynasty’ Reveals Bizarre Atheist Rape And Murder Fantasy

“Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson delivered a bizarre speech in which he created a hypothetical scenario about an atheist being forced to watch his “little atheist daughters” get raped and then having his penis hacked off and shown to him.

Speaking at a Christian event in Florida on Friday, Robertson was apparently trying to “prove” that having no belief in the afterlife and its consequences would make any level of violence acceptable.

Two guys break into an atheist’s home. He has a little atheist wife and two little atheist daughters,” Robertson said in audio from the Vero Beach Prayer Breakfast, obtained by Right Wing Watch. “Two guys break into his home and tie him up in a chair and gag him.”

Robertson continued:

“And then they take his two daughters in front of him and rape both of them and then shoot ’em and they take his wife and then decapitate her head off in front of him. And then they can look at him and say, ‘Isn’t it great that I don’t have to worry about being judged? Isn’t it great that there’s nothing wrong with this? There’s no right or wrong, now is it dude?’

Then you take a sharp knife and take his manhood and hold it in front of him and say, ‘Wouldn’t it be something if this was something wrong with this? But you’re the one who says there is no God, there’s no right, there’s no wrong, so we’re just having fun. We’re sick in the head, have a nice day.’

If it happened to them, they probably would say, ‘Something about this just ain’t right.'”

Listen to the audio here, which begins with an apparent attack on healthcare.

Robertson has a history of inflammatory comments. Previously, he compared homosexuality to bestiality and called AIDS a punishment for immorality.

He also said ISIS terrorists should be converted to Jesus or killed, and more recently, blamed “beatniks” and “hippies” for sexually transmitted diseases.

Rock star Phil Varone gives you a backstage pass to groupie sex.

Groupie: a person, especially a girl, who is an ardent admirer of rock musicians and may follow them and have sex with them while on tour.

It’s no secret that humans are obsessed with fame…and especially with Rock Stars. Let’s face it, the three reasons we join a band are fame, fortune and women…or Groupies, if they’re rock stars’ women. Ironically, getting groupies is a lot easier then fame and fortune, but with all three, the stories are what legends are made of. You’re probably wondering: how many girls have you had? How do you get girls? Is it easy to get laid? Can you tell us some stories? Groupies gives you an all-access pass to places only a Rock Star sees. From VIP backstage lounges, right to hotel rooms, you’ll see it all…and instead of hearing the stories, you’ll get to watch them. What happens when you give a Rock Star a video camera and a girl says "shoot?" The answer’s in Groupies: The Music from Behind…and it’s gonna rock your world.

Podcast Review: The New Phil Hendrie Show

2014-07-11-phil_hendrie.jpgWhat’s so new about The New Phil Hendrie Show, especially if it’s already up to Episode 157 as of Monday this past week? The fact is that Hendrie is now a podcaster as opposed to being a broadcaster, which he was since 1973 when he got his first terrestrial radio gig outside Orlando, Florida.

For the past couple of years, he’s been slicing and dicing the archives of his famed broadcast into podcast-sized pieces but, as of March, he’s washed his hands of the flagging radio biz.

Now he does a morning podcast Monday through Friday, joined by the cast of crazy characters that used to interact with live callers on the air. Folks like Margaret Gray, General Shaw, David G. Hall, and Jay Santos now spend most of their time getting in Phil’s way, it seems, as he tries his best to get through news stories of the day.

In this edition, Hendrie sounded off about last week’s firing of Anthony Santos from the Opie & Anthony Show on Sirius XM, offering some suggestions how Opie could survive by going it alone.

Santos, of the Citizen’s Auxiliary Police, called in to comment on a recent TSA ruling about confiscating cell phones and laptops with dead batteries — but an odd speech impediment kept him from delving too deeply into the subject.

And Don Burman from Channel 19 News called in from Disneyland but was being hassled by people in the park for being a 40-year-old man standing alone and wearing Mickey Mouse ears.

While I miss the fun of Phil bamboozling unsuspecting callers with his amazing ability to be many people at once, the formula works well in this new format, too.
