Ralph Pucci Showcases Fashions From Pratt Seniors

Three students from the Pratt Institute of Design are under the spotlight. Their senior thesis projects are being showcased at the Ralph Pucci International showroom, 44 West 18th Street, through Dec. 14.
“We are always looking for what’s new, what’s next,” said Ralph Pucci. “The kids are not afraid to take creative chances. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But the result is always fresh and original.”
Pucci, a member of the board of directors at Pratt, picked three of his favorite collections from last spring’s senior student show, to showcase on his new mannequins, for visual market week and for several days after.
“Ralph recognizes superior talent at Pratt,” said Jennifer Minniti, chairwoman of Pratt Institute School of Design. “These student designs are really showroom ready. We prefer to challenge the norms and provide new cultural messaging through fashion.”
Rachel Lee, 22, who lives in Brooklyn and now works at Gap Inc. in design, has eight mannequins at the Pucci showroom. “The concept for my thesis is based on my family,” Lee said. “They’re from New Orleans and I wanted to connect with the city. It’s all about color, humor and fun. My mom’s side of the family is from there. Last June,

‘TIS THE SEASON: Ralph Lauren continues its 50th anniversary celebration, this time at Fred Segal’s Sunset Boulevard store for a pop-up, which launched Monday.
The brand is the latest to occupy the retailer’s dedicated pop-up and event space, which will be filled with winter fun for the next seven weeks.
“Our idea was we really wanted to bring a winter wonderland to L.A.,” said Fred Segal president John Frierson.
The 1,500-square-foot space brings in birch trees and fireplaces to re-create the ski-lodge feel. Merchandise on offer includes Ralph Lauren’s Downhill Skier collection for men and boys in addition to holiday product for men, women and home.
Ralph Lauren follows a number of pop-ups within the Fred Segal store, which has also been a temporary home to Browns, Madeworn and Band of Outsiders.
Frierson said the dedicated space with a constantly rotating lineup of brands was part of a bid to get people to linger longer.
“We think of it as programming,” Frierson said. “Fred Segal’s not a traditional retailer. We don’t just buy and sell goods. So we’ve always had this idea that we were creating a destination and experience for people across the store and that’s why we’ve always had hair salons and wine stores and

Ralph Lauren Receives Honorary UK Knighthood for Services to Fashion

Ralph Lauren can add a new notch to his leather belt: Honorary Knighthood.
The 79-year-old designer, who is celebrating 50 years in business, has been made an Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. He may be called Ralph Lauren KBE, if he wishes.
The honorary knighthood insignia will be presented to the designer by a representative of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at a ceremony next year.
Antony Phillipson, British Consul General to New York and Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for North America, said the award recognizes that “in fashion, business and philanthropy, Mr. Lauren has played a key role in forging transatlantic cultural and economic connections. As creator and visionary of the Ralph Lauren brand worldwide, Mr. Lauren has been a vanguard for the global fashion industry and American style for nearly half a century. What to Watch: Ralph Lauren’s 2018 Game Plan Focuses on China, Digital and Wholesale Improvements

As Ralph Lauren Corp. prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, the company continues to make progress on its turnaround plan.
Under chief executive officer Patrice Louvet, who joined from Procter & Gamble in July, China remains a top priority. The company looks to build its Chinese business, which represents the most significant geographic growth opportunity for the brand. Other major initiatives this year include further developing its new e-commerce platform; evolving the product; increasing the marketing spend significantly to tell the brand’s story and appeal to a new generation of consumers, and growing its international presence.
In its most recent quarter ended Sept. 30, Lauren posted net income of $ 143.8 million on net revenues of $ 1.66 billion. In disclosing second-quarter results in November, Louvet said the focus on driving “efficiencies” will continue through the rest of the [fiscal] year,” and “we are on track to deliver our full-year targets.”
Over the past two years, Lauren has elevated the brand in Asia and built a strong foundation there by improving quality of sales and overall profitability, Louvet told analysts during November’s call. Interestingly, only 13 percent of the company’s overall business is conducted in the region.

It’s almost another Olympic year, if you can believe it. Today marks the 100-day countdown to the Olympic Winter Games Pyeongchang 2018. As such the United States Olympic Committee is unveiling Team USA’s closing ceremony uniforms, designed by Polo Ralph Lauren, the official outfitter of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams for the sixth Olympic Games running.

Polo Ralph Lauren Stadium Collection Back On Sale For 1 Day

There may be no pieces more coveted by Polo Ralph Lauren enthusiasts than the Stadium Collection. Select pieces from the 1992 collection that featured the P-Wing and track & field inspired apparel are coming back for a limited time. 

And we do mean limited, as the collection will be available in just three stores on Thursday, Sept. 21. Also, if you are able to make it to the Polo stores in New York City (109 Prince Street), Chicago or (750 N. Michigan Ave.) and Beverly Hills (444 N. Rodeo Drive), you will need a wristband to cop.

The wristbands will be available starting tomorrow (Sept. 19) beginning at 10 am local time and are first come, first serve. Each wristband entitles you to copping just one Stadium collection piece.

Don’t bank on the pieces—we see the cap, wind breaker and golf jackets are included—making it to the outlet or online (without a chunky resaler mark up).

A number of classic and vintage Stadium pieces were seen in a recent Fancy pop-up that featured Ezra Wine’s collection of Polo gear.

Exclusive: Ralph Lauren’s Major Move for New York Fashion Week

Ralph Lauren is capable of doing big things. In the lead-up to a New York Fashion Week season that has been fraught with controversial defections of major talent, Lauren, a true blue American designer if there ever was one, is staying put (relatively) and stepping it up. He will stage his September runway show Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at Ralph’s Garage in Bedford, N.Y., with a private formal dinner to follow the show.
The venue is Lauren’s private garage housing his collection of rare automobiles, which will be the backdrop for the show. It’s one of the most valuable car collections in the world, featuring models such as a 1938 Bugatti Atlantic, a 1929 Bentley Blower, an orange 1996 McLaren F1 LM and multiple vintage red Ferraris. In 2011, 17 cars from Lauren’s collection were shown in an exhibition at the Musée Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
To accent the masculine/feminine nature of automobile design, for the first time Lauren will also show the Ralph Lauren Purple Label men’s wear alongside the women’s collection. The show will continue the see-now-buy-now strategy that the company started a year prior — all looks from the show will be available immediately to consumers globally.

GRAND DESIGNS: Downton Abbey isn’t the only British stately home on Ralph Lauren’s radar.
Later this week, the brand will head to Althorp, home of the Spencer family for more than 500 years, for a black-tie dinner to mark the 15th anniversary of Ralph Lauren’s Pink Pony charity.
The dinner, on Oct. 8, will be hosted by Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, and Andrew Lauren. Lauren, a filmmaker and a son of the company’s founder, is the face of the Purple Label men’s campaign, which was shot at Althorp.
A women’s wear presentation will take place in the Picture Gallery, before dinner in the Marlborough Room.
Spencer is the younger brother of the late Princess Diana, and Althorp, in Northamptonshire, England, has been the family’s home for 19 generations. It is surrounded by 13,000 acres of parkland, and Diana is buried on the grounds of the estate.
Pink Pony benefits cancer research and the Royal Marsden hospital in the U.K. Founded in 2000, its mission is to raise cancer awareness and support programs for cancer screening, early diagnosis, treatment, research and patient navigation.

Ralph Lauren Stepping Down As CEO Of Namesake Company

Ralph Lauren, the designer behind the namesake brand synonymous with classic American style, is stepping down as CEO of the fashion company he launched in 1967.

Stefan Larsson, a former H&M executive who has been the president of Gap-owned Old Navy since 2012, will succeed him in November, the Ralph Lauren Corporation announced Tuesday. He will report to Lauren, who will remain at the company as executive chairman and chief creative officer.

“My job is to think always about the future of our company and how to move it forward,” Lauren, 75, said in a press release. “Stefan Larsson is exceptionally talented, and he will bring our company a fresh and exciting global perspective.”

Larsson said he was “thrilled” to work with Lauren in this new role. 

“His creativity and singular vision have made Ralph Lauren one of the world’s most influential global brands, and I share his dreams for the future,” he said. 

Lauren’s long run as both the business and creative leader of the company was exceptional in the fashion industry, The New York Times noted. Most successful fashion houses rise to prominence on the shoulders of two executives, one on either end of the company. 

While Forbes ranks Ralph Lauren in the top 100 most valuable brands, the company’s profits fell in the most recent quarter ending in June, when revenue dropped 5.3 percent to $ 1.62 billion. Shares of the company are down 35 percent so far in 2015.

Ralph Lauren Captures Crowd’s Attention in Piccadilly Circus

STREAM BELIEVER: Ralph Lauren beamed his spring 2016 runway show to a screen above the Boots flagship in London’s Piccadilly Circus on Thursday, when — thankfully — the skies were clear and bright after a few days of heavy rain.
The show started late, but the crowd of mostly young people hung on. Nancy Harris, 18, said she read about the event in London newspaper The Evening Standard, and decided to come along. “It opens the brand up to people, and gives you the opportunity to experience it,” she said of the live-streaming.
“It’s really good that you can see it here in London. The show should be more available to everyone else,” said Olivia Harland, 21. Emily Johnston, 35, a fashion blogger, called it a brilliant idea. “It’s a way to make it more of a global event and it’s completely in line with everything I know about Ralph Lauren being digital innovators.”

NEW YORK — In what will be a digital first for fashion, Ralph Lauren Corp. is partnering with the live-streaming app Periscope to livestream the Ralph Lauren Collection show to the heart of London.
Just as models are stepping onto the runway in Manhattan at Skylight Clarkson Sq, thousands of Londoners passing through Piccadilly Circus will simultaneously be able to catch every last spring 2016 look on a nearby screen before the designer takes his final bow. Beyond the editors, celebrities and influencers in New York, and the more unsuspecting U.K. crowd, Ralph Lauren will be tapping into Periscope’s base of more than 10 million users.
This will be the company’s latest in a series of high-tech initiatives that have included a holographic 4-D fashion show on Central Park’s reservoir, interactive shoppable windows, e-commerce and most recently the introduction of the PoloTech smartshirt, which features sensors that read the wearer’s biological and physiological information.

It’s been a year since Ralph Lauren entered the wearable tech game, introducing its PoloTech “smart shirt” for men at the 2014 U.S. Open, where ball boys and Marcos Giron, the NCAA singles champion, test-drove the first iteration.
Now PoloTech is ready for market, available online and in stores on Aug. 27, after a year of tweaking the prototype and adding features, including a fancy new fitness app. The shirt retails for $ 295.
David Lauren, executive vice president of global advertising, marketing and corporate communications, was confident in the product’s innovation during a Wednesday morning demo of the smart shirt and app with a fleet of trainers at Equinox in Midtown Manhattan. “This is the most accurate, best wearable technology on the market right now,” said Lauren, noting that it took the Ralph Lauren company two years to develop the smart shirt 1.0 with its in-house innovation lab and proprietary technology from Canadian-based OmSignal.

CUTE OVERLOAD: New York’s Central Park Zoo was transformed into a Neverland-themed playground for Ralph Lauren’s kids’ fashion show on Wednesday night as stylish uptown moms and their tots flooded the outdoor space to watch several dozen pint-size runway models show off looks from the fall collection. In addition to 12-year-old Levi Miller — who stars alongside Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara in the upcoming film “Pan” — the cast also included 12-year-old Maddie Ziegler of “Dance Moms” fame. “There are a lot of rising stars here,” said David Lauren, executive vice president of advertising, marketing and communications for the company, after the show. “We cast through friends and family, but there are a couple of young people that are aspiring actors and actresses. Everybody likes a good fairy tale, and Ralph & Russo’s fall couture had plenty of story lines to offer. Set against the backdrop of an enchanted forest, Tamara Ralph’s tale started out with “young tsarinas” storming into the woods on the eve of their coronation, hinting at an act of rebellion — though their majestic gowns would suggest otherwise.
 
The designer left no doubt that this was an old-school collection for women who attend grand balls in big castles. She sent out romantic capes in pristine white made of little balls of mink or stitched together from blush-pink ostrich feathers and matching fox fur. Everything registered as royal from the neck down to the toes. Sparkling underneath was a sea of Chantilly lace column dresses, featuring crystal, glass bead and metallic feather embroideries — often done all on one dress — yielding impressive floral patterns. Ralph also served a volley of exuberantly ruffled and heavy puffball gowns, for those swept up in the dreamy, princess theme.

Ralph Lauren Opens The Polo Bar Restaurant In NYC [Photos]

Polo Ralph Lauren is the clothing line of choice for refined Hip-Hop heads, prep school attendees and sometimes Kanye West. The Polo Bar restaurant, an upscale eatery with all the flourishes you would come to expect from the house that designer Ralph Lauren built, is now open in Manhattan.

Reports Eater:

For those of us who will never attend a polo match and the dinner with the upper crust afterwards, there’s now Ralph Lauren’s Polo Bar at the designer’s flagship shop just south of Central Park. The equestrian-inspired space feels like it was stolen from a club for well-bred gentlemen in the early 20th century and plopped down on Fifth Avenue. Dark and highly varnished wood lines the ceilings, while rich mahogany leather is stretched across banquettes, horse paintings cover the walls, and riding hats hang from hooks in what looks like a very fancy mud room but is more likely the space outside of the restrooms.

The Polo Bar’s menu features straightforward American fare like Kale Ceasar Salad, Chicken Paillard, a Bone-In Ribeye and The Polo Bar Burger for $ 24. This is Lauren’s third store with outposts already open in Paris (Ralph) and Chicago (RL).

Please, don’t be that guy to stand up and yell “It ain’t Ralph, though!” in the middle of dinner service. Mostly because it certainly is Ralph.
