Mark Zuckerberg Says He’s “Really Sorry” For Allowing Cambridge Analytica To Violate Privacy

Mark Zuckerberg attendes Mobile World Congress 2015

Source: David Ramos / Getty

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg finally came out of hiding to address how his company allowed a shady election data firm, Cambridge Analytica, to misuse the personal data of 50 million Facebook users.

In a CNN interview with Laurie Segall, Zuckerberg said he is “really sorry that this happened”.

You think, Mark?

In the interview where he repeated from the sound of it carefully prepared statements, Zuckerberg pointed out that it’s Facebook’s “responsibility to make sure that it doesn’t happen again”. He also admitted that the tech giant made mistakes by allowing app developers way too much access to Facebook user data and trusting Cambridge Analytica and the other companies involved to delete the user data.

In response, the Facebook creator promised the company would conduct a “full forensic audit” to find out exactly which apps went too far and gained access to user data before tighter rules were implemented in 2014. As you can imagine folks on Capitol Hill want to have some words with Zuckerberg and he is open to the meeting. Zuckerberg said about talking to Congress “happy to if it’s the right thing to do,” but “what we try to do is send the person at Facebook who will have the most knowledge.”

Congress has made it very clear that person who has the most knowledge is him and they don’t want to talk to anyone else but him. Zuckerberg has been looking funny in the light after his fortune took a $ 9 billion dollar hit and shaved about 8.5 percent of his company’s stock during it’s tanking after the scandal broke.

Coincidence?  We think not. Mark and Facebook better get it’s act together before the 2018 Mid-term elections we can’t afford anymore Russia meddling or more Trump liking politicians in office. Watch the Mark get totally awkward and say he’s sort of sorry below.

DJ Jazzy Jeff Believes Chance The Rapper Would Be “A Really Good Fresh Prince”

32nd Annual Grammy Awards - Press Room

Source: Ron Galella, Ltd. / Getty

While in Poland for the Red Bull 3Style World Finals, DJ Jazzy Jeff sat down with HipHopDX and discussed his thoughts about the potential of a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air remix.

Jazzy Jeff declared that he believes Chance The Rapper would make a great successor to the Fresh Prince. Will Smith’s right-hand man stated, “Chance is a trailblazer and Will has always been a trailblazer,” Jazzy Jeff said.

Jazzy Jeff referred to Chance’s “light-hearted demeanor” with a “serious side” and how he’s “always smiling” as reasons why he would make a really good Fresh Prince.

The Philadelphia legend went on to praise Chance’s business acumen stating, “And I think for Chance to be as young as he is, to remain independent, to understand just even a little bit about the music industry, I think is great because it’s very easy to fall into those pitfalls. It’s very easy for someone to bring you a suitcase full of money, and it changes your entire perspective instead of realizing, ‘I probably could have 10 suitcases full of money if I just keep my product to myself.’”

Rumors of a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot have stirred up the internet. With this commentary from DJ Jazzy Jeff, the excitement will continue to rise. While we wait for updates, who do you believe would make a good Fresh Prince?

Do We Really Need “Moral Leadership” from the White House?

After the horrors of Charlottesville, and President Trump’s morally ambiguous initial statement, pundits, politicians and citizens complained that we weren’t getting the moral leadership we need.

I have one question: Why do we need moral leadership?

Moral leadership probably made sense in pre-Internet days. But today we get rapid moral clarity from social media, whether we want it or not. That doesn’t mean every person agrees. But social media usually produces a dominant moral opinion, and rapidly. No need for our “moral leaders” to get involved. We got this.

Do you know anyone who watched the news about Charlottesville and thought the White Supremacists might be the ones on the right side of this issue? Well, maybe, but those people would be white supremacists, and not likely to change because a president gave a tearful speech full of moral leadership.

So why did we need moral leadership when no one in the country wanted to be led anywhere? We all had our moral opinions and they weren’t going to change because of anyone’s moral leadership. And no one suggested that one group or another should be exempt from the law. We were all on the same page on that.

It seems to me that people didn’t really need moral leadership after Charlottesville. They just wanted it. What they really wanted was a cry-point. They wanted a leader to share the emotions they were feeling and to put a voice to their concerns. But only because it would feel good, in the same way people inexplicably enjoy sad movies that make you cry. Obviously we want to know our leader is on our side. But that just takes a simple statement.

In 2017, social media is all the moral leadership society needs. It’s messy and brutal, but it generally gets the right answer, and quickly. I have literally never heard anyone ask for moral guidance on events in the news. Most of us recognize evil when we see it. And those who can’t recognize evil on their own will not be cured by a leader who shares a good cry with us.

It is entirely fair to wonder if your leader shares your priorities. And we certainly want to know our leaders view all of us as equal under the law. But we don’t really need a leader to tell us Nazis are bad. Social media has that covered.

President Trump never promised us moral leadership when he ran for office, and he has been consistent in avoiding it. For example, he prefers leaving abortion decisions to the states. He is anti-drug, but he doesn’t lecture us about it. He says he owns a Bible, but he doesn’t wave it in our faces. He told us he was “no angel,” and the evidence supported him. President Trump’s moral leadership seems to be limited to creating jobs, keeping citizens safe, and other practical matters. We’re on our own for the philosophical determinations of good and evil.

Is that a good thing?

I remind you again that Charlottesville was a weirdly unifying event. No serious person on the left or the right disagreed on the moral dimension. Political opportunists on the left tried to frame mainstream Republicans as soft on Nazis, but that was nothing but transparent political manipulation, and clearly immoral. (See how easy it was to spot immorality? No leadership required!)

When critics of President Trump say he did not provide moral leadership on Charlottesville, I agree. His initial statement was tone deaf and politically radioactive. But ask yourself who needed moral clarity on Nazis. You don’t need a leader to take you where you already are.

I won’t go so far as to say social media is the best moral conscience for the country. I’m simply saying it is our moral conscience, and no future politician is likely to take its job. You can demand moral leadership from your president, but what you are asking for is no longer a thing. We already took moral responsibility from our leaders and invested it in social media. If the unified condemnation of Nazis and other racists in Charlottesville is any guide, we’re in good hands.

Seal Wasn’t Really Into Renewing His Vows To Heidi Klum Every Year

Before separating in 2012, Heidi Klum and Seal made headlines for throwing elaborate, oftentimes themed vow renewal parties every year. (Who could forget the couple’s notorious “white trash”-themed wedding in 2009?)

Turns out, Seal wasn’t really a big fan of the tradition. In a new interview with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM radio show, the 52-year-old singer opened up about the couple’s anniversary fetes. (The pair married in May 2005 and went onto renew their vows in places like Costa Careyes, Mexico and Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida.)

“That was my ex-wife’s idea, to be honest,” the “Kiss From A Rose” singer admitted. “It kind of turned into a little bit of a circus, which I wasn’t terribly fond of because, by default, I’m quite a private person.”

Meanwhile, in 2010, the Klum gushed about how much the renewals meant to the couple and their four kids: ”It’s our time — a lovely family time,” she told Redbook. “It’s about remembering this moment of love we gave to each other and reinforcing it.”

Though Seal said he “disliked” how heavily publicized the vow renewal ceremonies became, he ultimately went along with it to make his former wife happy.

“You’re married and you become a team player,” the Grammy Award winner told Cohen. “You understand that each of you have different lives and you do whatever you can to support your partner’s life.”

He added: “I don’t know how necessary [renewing our vows] was, but it was cool.”

No word if Seal felt equally unenthused about Klum’s annual Halloween costume parties – a tradition she continues to this day. (In the photo below, from the supermodel’s 2006 party, he looks pretty into it.)

Satanist Really Appreciates The New Starbucks Holiday Cups

This fall, Starbucks has altered their holiday cup design to reflect a more inclusive attitude toward their customers’ religious beliefs, trading the traditional snowflakes and elves for a simpler red.

Though the change was met with criticism by many Christians, devoted Satan-worshipper Arnold Gregory welcomes the move.

“It’s good to feel included,” said Gregory, donning a ritual mask of his own design.

The 32-year-old says he’s noticed the service at his local Starbucks has also gotten much quicker in recent weeks.

“Not sure what it is,” he said, breathing heavily through the mask’s mouth hole and speaking as a serpent might, ”but they’re great about getting me in and out as quickly as possible.”

SPRINGFIELD, MA—Keeping his voice at a measured volume and holding everything back, departing employee David Hughes was really letting no one have it during his exit interview Monday, sources at local accounting firm Grier and Associates confirmed. “As soon as he went in there, he started listing off supervisors and colleagues he had worked with over the years and saying only the briefest, most courteous things about each of them—he’s sparing everyone!” said office manager Teresa Ullman as she watched Hughes through the glass conference room window, noting that her coworker appeared hell-bent on making sure every one of the complaints and frustrations that had built up over the past eight years stayed bottled up inside. “Man, he just keeps hammering management with polite agreeableness toward its policies and expressions of gratitude at having worked here. Jennifer Lawrence has been killing it at all of the ”Mockingjay - Part 2″ events, wearing one gorgeous gown after the other.

But for the Paris premiere of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2,” Lawrence shifted her darker looks to something a bit lighter. The 25-year-old actress stepped out in a flowy white Christian Dior gown, which we previously had labeled a “nightgown” after seeing it at Paris Couture Fashion Week.

Lawrence paired her look with a loose, braided hairstyle and natural makeup.

The gown looked super comfortable and, at the same time, super expensive. It is Dior, after all.

This Is What It’s Really Like To Have A Late-Term Abortion

By Lindsey Averill

As #shoutyourabortion trends on social media, encouraging women to shed their shame over having chosen abortion, I have my own story to tell.

A little over a year ago, my husband, Randy and I were all smiles as the nurse in the perinatologist’s office called my name and then ushered us into an exam room. We were there for an anatomy ultrasound. I was 21 weeks pregnant. I already knew I was having a little girl. We were throwing around names like Madison and Lexi.

pregnant
Yay! Pregnant!

For so many, the ultrasound between 20 and 21 weeks is magical. This is the one. The scan where the abstract images on the little screen stop looking like a blob or a tadpole with limbs and start looking like a baby. This is the moment when you can see a spine, fingers, toes and facial features. This is the ultrasound photo that makes it to people’s Facebook feeds.

I don’t remember the technician’s name, but when she came into the room, Randy and I were chit-chatty and excited. I told her my dad was an OB/GYN, as she covered my belly in cool gel and then before I knew it, our little girl was projected onto the screen on the wall across from us. Cheerful and pleasant, the technician pointed out our baby’s details as she snapped frozen ultrasound pictures.

baby photo
A photo to record the moment we found out I was pregnant.

The tech pointed, “Ooh. There’s a little hand.” As an obstetrician’s kid, I’d seen my fair share of ultrasounds, but nothing could prepare me for this one. I looked to Randy — total rapture, smiling ear to ear. The tech pointed again, “Her feet.”

And then there was a shift. I felt it. The tech was measuring and re-measuring the baby’s head. It was taking too much work. She asked me to shift positions. She firmly pressed the transducer into my belly — so deep that it hurt.

“How many weeks are you?” she asked.

“Twenty one.”

“Are you sure?”

I was sure.

The ultrasound tech finished the scan and the machine printed out a series of pictures for us to take home. She handed them to Randy, smiled and said the doctor would be in to see us in a few minutes.

When were alone, I started babbling.

“Everything’s fine.” I said.

“We already ruled out all the really bad stuff,” I said.
“It’s nothing, right?” I looked to Randy. He nodded reassuringly, cradled the photos in his arms and tenderly rocked them.

It wasn’t fine.

Her brain wasn’t fully formed and there was also something wrong with her heart. As the doctor explained, I stayed solid. I asked questions – clinical, doctor’s kid questions – and then my voice started to shake as I asked, “So, there is no chance that this baby is healthy?” Then I apologized for getting upset. Ridiculous.

In true doctor speak he replied, “Well, there is always a chance — but if I had to make the call, I’d say this development is not normal.”

We left the doctor’s office in a haze. Within hours, I was surrounded by my family, and I had spoken to my OB/GYN, my father, and a neonatal neurologist. All of these people had looked at my ultrasound images and the consensus was nothing good. No one could or would give me details, but everyone kept saying that my baby – the baby I could literally feel moving in my belly – would not be anywhere near okay.

Together, Randy and I made the decision to not bring our daughter into the world.

Getting an abortion at 21-plus weeks in South Florida isn’t so easy. There is a clinic about an hour from my house that is surrounded by pro-life picketers daily. Devastated, heartbroken and every other word you can think of that means emotionally crushed, I couldn’t imaging crossing a picket line and hearing people scream hate at me.

Also, the procedure at this point in a pregnancy is a long process, complicated and potentially life-threatening. I wanted to be in a hospital, just in case. No such thing exists in the sunshine state.

I am lucky. I have the money to afford choices and people I could call, people in Connecticut and New York, doctors and friends. We made a plan. Within twenty-four hours, I had an appointment to begin the procedure at 1pm six days later at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, and a plane ticket to get there.

I tried to say goodbye to the baby in my belly and accept my choice, but I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t eat. Sometimes it felt hard to breathe. Randy had the opposite reaction. He couldn’t stop sleeping. We were a mess. We went to the movies — we saw “Chef.” I was angry that it was happy.

The days passed, and I felt like my body failed her. I failed her. I felt like I was making an uninformed parental decision — and it was killing me. I had so much fear. I couldn’t stop searching the internet for statistics. How many people got a diagnosis like mine and went on to have a healthy baby? Was there a possibility that the doctors were wrong? Online there were testimonials. There were people who had frightening ultrasounds at twenty weeks and made the other choice and their babies were okay.

My mother was sleeping at my house – we were both getting on a plane to go to New York in a few hours, and I was crazed. There was no way I was having the procedure without a second opinion. I made another call, this time to my father – and with help from the Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor (MFM) at my dad’s hospital, I went to the best MFM at NYU at 7am on the day of the procedure for a second opinion.

The doctor in New York was certain. Part of my baby’s brain was missing, all the vessels into her heart were fused. She didn’t have a nose and her potential for life after birth was called both limited and painful.

I aborted my baby to end the pain, her future pain, my pain, my husband’s pain, the pain of the people who loved us. I aborted her because if I carried her to term she would have died and taken my sanity with her. I aborted my baby because it was the best choice. As far as I was concerned it was the only choice.

procedure
Relieved the procedure was over and I was safe.

It was also a choice that I had access to only because of my privileges as the daughter of upper middle class, educated people and the personal economic advantages that such a life affords me. I was always pro-choice, but before this experience I was wishy-washy about late-term abortion — even with my adjacent medical knowledge. I wasn’t sure I agreed, but I could understand how people believed that late-term abortions were uncivilized.

I now find that I know the opposite to be true. I will forever be a voice willing to fight for why late-term abortions must remain legal.

Letting her go still hurts. And so far there is not a happy ending here — we haven’t gone on to have a healthy baby. But there is one thing that I am certain of. The option for a safe late-term abortion was a blessing for me. I feel no shame about the choice I made and I would never make a different choice, not in a million years.

Kate Winslet On Her Past Marriages: ‘No One Really Knows What Has Happened’

Kate Winslet is twice divorced but you’re not likely to hear the “Titanic” star talk about what went wrong in either marriage.

There’s a reason for that. In a new interview with the WSJ. Magazine, the 39-year-old Oscar winner said she made a concerted effort to keep the details of her personal life under wraps when she divorced director Jim Threapleton in 2001 and ”American Beauty” director Sam Mendes in 2010. (She married third husband Ned Rocknroll in 2012.)

“No one really knows what has happened in my life,” she told the magazine. “No one really knows why my first marriage didn’t last; no one knows why my second didn’t. And I’m proud of those silences.”

Winslet, who has a child from each of her marriages, also discussed how she’s dealt with public interest in her marital setbacks.

“I know lots of people who are not in the public eye who have gone through several marriages, I really do, and it’s just those are the cards that life dealt me,” she said. “I didn’t plan on its being that way . And f– me, it hasn’t been easy, you know.”

Winslet may try to keep her private life private, but she couldn’t help but rave about third husband Rocknroll – the nephew of Virgin magnate Richard Branson.

“Thank God for Ned — really. He’s just so incredibly supportive, and he’s so much fun. He’s absolutely everything to me. And to all of us.”

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar U.K. back in 2013, Winslet called Rocknroll — who was born Edward Abel Smith before legally changing his name – her “soulmate.”

News: Company’s HR Manager Really Pushing Infinite-Deductible Health Care Plan

ROCHESTER, NY—During a meeting with new hires Wednesday to discuss employee benefits, Radian Analytics human resources manager Ellen Schultz is said to have strongly pushed the company’s infinite-deductible health care option.

According to sources in attendance, Schultz described the low-premium, infinite-deductible plan as the simplest and most convenient choice available to employees, and said it works the same whether plan members need to visit their primary care physician, fill a prescription, or be admitted to a hospital, allowing them in each case to pay 100 percent of the incurred medical expenses.

Company officials explained that the health care option had been set up to address complaints employees had with previous plans, which often came with confusing paperwork and long wait times for reimbursement, problems that have disappeared now that the limitless deductibles have eliminated any need to even bother filing a claim.

“With our Infinity Plan, you’ll …

What Friends Really Need From You When They’re In Pain

When a friend or loved one is in pain, it’s likely that your immediate reaction is to offer comfort. You may want to help through your actions or your words, but this nurturing instinct is often trailed by one nagging fear: What if I do or say the wrong thing?

No matter what situation is causing your friend to hurt, life coach Iyanla Vanzant believes that there is one universal approach you can take to help ease their pain.

“Your presence is enough,” Iyanla says. “Sometimes you don’t have to have anything to say… You don’t have to bring anything to the table. Your presence is enough.”

Iyanla has seen the power of this principle work firsthand in her experience as a spiritual advisor and the host of “Iyanla: Fix My Life.” Not only does she take the time to listen to those in the midst of crises, but Iyanla also encourages their loved ones to be fully present and open their hearts as well. That, she adds, is when an additional move towards healing can take place.

“In the stillness and the silence of your presence, pray,” Iyanla suggests.

This prayer doesn’t have to a prayer in the religious sense of the word; rather, it’s about putting forth good vibes and positive energy, beginning with how you personally view your friend in this moment of despair.

“Don’t see the person as ‘broken,’ and don’t see them as where they are right now,” Iyanla says. “Call in and see for them the end result.”

If you’re concerned that allowing yourself to be fully present might invite negativity into your own space, don’t be, Iyanla says. The exact opposite happens.

“Just because your friend is hurting doesn’t mean you have to get down in the pain with them. In fact, in your presence, you can pull the energy up and pull them out of the pain,” Iyanla explains. “Just remember: Your presence is enough.”

The new season of “Iyanla: Fix My Life” premieres on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 9 p.m. ET on OWN, with an emotional, three-part episode focusing on the coming out stories of two gay pastors.

Do We Really Want Equal Pay?

By Ann Friedman

The other day a little girl asked Hillary Clinton whether she’d be paid as much as a man if she were elected president, a frustrating reminder that the gender-based wage gap persists, even for women at the very top of the game.*

The line you hear, over and over, is that among full-time workers, women are still paid 77 cents for each dollar that men make. But for many women of color the gap is much bigger. According to the National Partnership for Women and Families, “In the 20 states with the largest number of African American women working full time, year round, pay for African American women ranges from 49 to 70 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men in those states.” As low as 49 cents for each dollar pocketed by white men. And that’s just the disparity in paid work. In countries across the world, women do more work than men — much of it for no compensation at all.

But as an activist goal, the demand of “equal pay for equal work” has never seemed less radical. In an era when inequality is rampant and wages are stagnant, the demand for equal pay seems willfully ignorant of the fact that equal pay with men won’t help the working poor, who aren’t paid a living wage regardless of gender. Even for professional-class women, “equal work” increasingly requires so many hours that the price of “equal pay” is too high, especially for women with health concerns or caretaking obligations.

Detractors often acknowledge that there is indeed a wage gap, then chalk it up to women’s choices. They add caveats to that 77 percent: “But we need to know how much of that is because of choices that people make over working hours, what job they do, the flexibility they might prefer over pay and so on, and then see what’s left which might be the result of direct discrimination,” writes Tim Worstall in Forbes. As if needing flexible hours or taking a job in a field traditionally dominated by women are acceptable reasons to make less money. As if women’s labor is worth less.

Most of us — myself included — have been thinking far too narrowly when it comes to why we’re really enraged by the wage gap. It’s not that we’re frustrated at making so little progress toward pay equality. It’s that we’re playing a game we can’t ever win. Even if women are paid equally to men in their occupations, “equal pay for equal work” is a way to make the best of a bad paradigm, a world in which most of us aren’t paid enough and everyone works too much. If you waved a wand and granted all women equal wages to men, it still wouldn’t solve what I consider to be the worst labor problems in the modern workforce. That no one can live on America’s minimum wage, even if (and it’s a big if) they work as many hours as humanly possible. That without meaningful subsidies, child care is prohibitively expensive. That working hours per week, even for salaried workers, have ballooned. That women still take on a disproportionate amount of labor that is completely uncompensated.

Last month, three feminist women of color — Bardot Smith, Lauren Chief Elk-Young Bear, and Yeoshin Lourdes — started a hashtag, #GiveYourMoneyToWomen. Their suggestion was that, rather than spend your money to try to elect the right politicians or support charities, we should send it directly to women who need it. They began tweeting links to PayPal and Square Cash accounts, and asking men to send them money. “For me the goal is a drastic cultural shift, to where what we’re doing is normalized,” Lourdes says in a conversation between the three women at Model View Culture, “so that all of women’s contributions command direct access to resources and without question. This is how things always should’ve been.” It is a way of questioning what sort of work we consider worthy of compensation. Their radical suggestion is that women be paid for all duties they are expected to perform for free: providing emotional support, putting up with catcalls, turning unintentional insults into teachable moments — the list goes on.

The hashtag was also a critique of predominantly white feminists who equate equality in the corporate world with overall equality. To focus on leaning in and breaking the glass ceiling, says Chief Elk-Young Bear, is to “actually subsume yourself more into patriarchy, more into these institutions, mimic the systems that have created the disaster world we live in.”

It’s easy to focus on a number like 77 percent — which is rage-inducing on its own — and ignore the thorny and interlocking problems that contribute to it. I care about short-term solutions like fixing workplace culture and figuring out how to negotiate better. I’m glad Obama created that task force on the pay gap. But our goal shouldn’t just be wage parity. It should be a reexamination of how people are expected to work, and how they are compensated for it.

When It Is Really Over – Irrevocably

Your relationship is over… no question to it, impossible to do anything about it, it is irrevocable. I found him – I was 68 years old. We had been together for almost two years; finally found someone who actually loved me equally, we radiated love- the type of couple others looked at when we walked into a room, others noticed the love – we had fun being affectionate in public… was able to share love, heated love – wonderful closeness, wonderful sex. Life was finally looking good. He had been out of work for over a year, just got a fantastic job, paid over 6 figures a year, was looking like both our futures were coming up to more togetherness, more of a future. He had just given me a diamond necklace.

Dee Barnes & Michel’le Don’t Really Buy Dr. Dre’s Apology

Dr. Dre recently revisited his heinous past as a woman beater; the best way you’d expect a man of his stature and profile to respond.

Through a statement funneled through The New York Times, the 50-year-old Hip-Hop legend “apologized” specifically to “the women” he had hurt, albeit not by name. The documented stories of the victims: journalist Dee Barnes; a former friend of the N.W.A leading up to Ice Cube’s departure from the group and ex-girlfriend and labelmate Michel’le, have since risen to the top of the news pile since the hit movie, Straight Outta Compton, erased them from coverage in an apparent bout of convenient amnesia.

Barnes, who has maintained she was “blackballed” from the industry since settling with Dre out of court in the early 90s, recently penned her second column with Gawker regarding the incident where she addresses his most recent apology.

“I have been routinely accused of ‘living in the past’ and of not letting this go, but it was Dr. Dre himself who was living in the past and couldn’t let it go so he created a permanent reminder of the ‘Dee Barnes incident,’ Barnes writes in reference to her name being mentioned in Eminem’s 1999 single, ‘Guilty Conscience,’ the first digital age allusion to the incident. “And Eminem is not the only one; there are numerous songs that mention the incident, enough that essentially turned me into a, uh, punchline. Of the women assaulted by Dre, I was the only one to press criminal charges against him. I’m also the only one whose name later came up in one of his songs. ‘Guilty Conscience’ and the other songs containing the reference are products of clear and obvious misogyny on a cultural level and for what? Jokes?”

While Barnes is sincere that she hopes Dre’s apology is as genuine as her forgiveness, she still plans on clearing the air in her developing memoir, Music, Myth, and Misogyny: Memoirs of a Female MC. Michel’le, on the other hand, wasn’t as accommodating with her response. In fact, she feels it was some sort of marketing ploy to get theaters packed and headphones sold.

“I didn’t ask for a public apology, and I think if he is going to apologize, he should do it individually,” she tells BBC Radio 5. “To just group us like we are nothing and nobody — I just don’t think it’s sincere. Treat us like we have names. He’s selling a movie. I just think it’s good PR at the moment.”

Which, opens up the floor to any solutions to the current situation that could be rooted in absolute. Does Dre need to become the face of domestic violence, where as he, a married man for going on 19 years, hasn’t shied away from such behavior. Even his latest release–the 16-year-album-drought-breaker Compton–doesn’t celebrate the misogyny and women swapping ethos that helped amass his fortune.

It’s a question only all parties involved in a private setting can sum up an answer.

Do Women Really Need the Newly Approved “Female Viagra”?

irving penn for vogue

It might surprise you, but for some women, the Ginuwine Pandora station and a quick vape are not enough to get in the mood. Surveys have estimated that about 10 percent of women have something called hypoactive sexual desire disorder. It was with this condition in mind that the Food and Drug Administration yesterday approved Addyi, the first prescription drug to enhance sex drive in women green-lighted by the agency. (Street names: “female Viagra,” “pink Viagra,” “girl boner in a bottle.”)

Created by Sprout Pharmaceuticals, Addyi, known generically as flibanserin, was engineered to treat women whose lack of libido is causing them distress. Sexual pleasure is a critical part of emotional health, the premise seems to be, and if you’re not able to give and receive it, your psychological and physical well-being may be at risk. And given that men have a whole host of available drugs to better their sex lives, it seems about time women got their own magic pill, right?

Interestingly, Addyi is actually the first approved drug to increase libido at all. The drugs aimed at men, Viagra and the like, are intended to help men achieve an erection, not to increase horniness. Also unlike Viagra, Addyi is not a pill one takes an hour before sex to get going, but rather must be taken daily, long term, in order to see results.

The big question is, of course, whether a lack of sexual libido in women is an actual medical condition that needs to be treated. Surely a low sex drive is just as normal and ultimately natural as a high one. (Of course the first sex drug for women is aimed to increase libido. I’m sure many men would like to “fix” this “problem” in their partners.) At the same time, sex is an important component of a healthy relationship, and if you’re not apt to do that, your relationship could suffer tremendously; for these people, the pill may offer hope.

The other big question is whether the drug actually works. Many people are saying it doesn’t, or, at least, that it doesn’t work well enough. Several pharmaceutical giants have reportedly attempted to make and sell such a drug, including Pfizer (which produces Viagra), Bayer, and Procter & Gamble, but they ultimately abandoned their efforts. The FDA previously rejected Addyi itself twice, in 2010 and again in 2013, citing marginal effectiveness and considerable side effects, including nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, and fainting, which can lead to serious injuries.

Following the rejections, campaigns like Even the Score have argued that it’s sexist to have so many drugs for men on the market but none for women. Now that the drug has been approved, critics are saying that the FDA was pressured into green-lighting the drug by a feminist lobby, and that the drug’s negative effects outweigh the potential benefits. Particularly strong opposition is coming from Leonore Tiefer, clinical associate professor of psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine, who told Time: “I am very opposed to the drug and have been since it first went to the FDA in 2010 and it was rejected. Then it was rejected a second time. The drug hasn’t changed, the data hasn’t changed, and my opinion hasn’t changed. I think it’s a disaster. It’s unsafe and it doesn’t work. That is all a drug is supposed to do. Work and be safe.”

In any case, the drug will come with a label warning doctors and patients that combining the pill with alcohol can cause dangerously low blood pressure, and thus fainting. Because the pill must be taken daily, women on the medication would have to be cool with being basically sober. (To whom I would ask: Maybe the reason that you’re never horny is because you’re never drunk?)

The drug will be available starting in October. Which means that, very soon, many women may be making a tough decision: Would you rather be able to drink or be sober and nauseous in exchange for a minimally heightened sex drive?

Having more options for ways to increase desire is a positive thing. But you might try a vibrator before jumping to the meds.

“The Lucky Country”… Really?

So, I’ve been living in Los Angeles now for roughly two years, and the most common thing that I hear from most Americans is just how backward Australia seems as a nation.

Yeah, that’s correct. The nation that houses the Westboro Baptist nutters looks to Australia as a backward nation. And the thing is, I 150 percent can see exactly why they would think that.

Firstly, marriage equality is nowhere to be seen. 2015 has been a landmark year globally for LGBT rights. Ireland voted yes to marriage equality, the SCOTUS made marriage equality the law of the land here in the U.S., and what exactly did Australia achieve?

Bronwyn (Marshmallow head) Bishop used a hell of a lot of taxpayers money flying herself around the country on helicopters, rocket ships and god knows what else. Tony Abbott still appears lost, vague and zombie-like during any press conference or interview and the minister for Agriculture has said that if Australia were to allow marriage equality it would affect trading with other countries, not to mention saying he was going to kill Johnny Depp’s dogs. Just to name a few.

Is this a joke? No. Well, yes, actually. The Australian government is a complete joke, and I can honestly say that I have never seen the country is such a sad and pathetic state.

Australia used to hold the title of “The Lucky Country”… Yeah, lucky if you’re a heterosexual, caucasian MALE. The rest of us are screwed.

I’ve tiptoed around the subject for far too long, but the fact is Australia looks like a nation run by a bunch of 16th century hillbillies.

I am in no way saying that other western nations have achieved absolute success, however Australia isn’t even in the same league when it comes to progress and are lagging behind by a few hundred years.

The thing I find so unbearably pitiful is Australia’s national anthem line: “advance Australia fair,” which is meant to mean “progress this beautiful country of ours forward.”

What progression is Australia actually making? The MINISTER FOR WOMEN IS A MAN! You can’t make this shit up!

Now as a nation like Australia who has such an intense history of discrimination, I really would’ve expected them to take greater note when it comes to the rights of others. Instead, other groups have just fallen victim to hate.

It’s time Australia came out from the dark ages, allowed marriage equality and equal rights for the LGBTQ community, women, indigenous Australians and people other than the straight white male population and caught up with the rest of the Western World.

I know I have ranted before about this issue but it’s becoming more and more painful to see my home go backwards rather than forwards. When I left Australia and moved to the US, I truly hoped that one day when I returned things may have changed. This is appearing to be further and further away from reality.

The thing I wish the Australian politicians would grasp is that marriage equality isn’t about a fancy wedding, a great cake and a fountain of champagne (well, it could be, but there’s more to it than that). Marriage equality is a statement to the millions of LGBTQ youth of Australia that they are enough. That they are accepted and equal to their heterosexual peers and that everyone deserves a fair go.

It really is time to get with the times Australia. We have electricity and a thing called “the wheel” here in the future.

Who Really Does Run the Roost at Nadine Johnson PR? Lupo Wanted to Share With Us That He Really is Top Dog.

2015-07-01-1435779312-7864298-kimberlymwangmrssizzle.jpeg
A few weeks ago we stopped by the fabulously hectic office of PR guru Nadine Johnson to get the scoop on dog mascot Lupo. He’s stolen every heart in the office, so along with photographer Kimberly M. Wang/Eardog.com and Mindy Montney of Dog & Co, we dug further to see what made this dog tick!

What’s your favorite thing to do at the office?

I enjoy teasing my older sister Milou and supervising all the employees from my little throne at the top of the stairs. I also steal their lunches when they are not looking, but need to watch out as beach season is here and I’ve gotten a bit round around the waist.

Who is your favorite designer?

I adore Dior sneakers and Céline leather flats (from mum)–they use the very best glue. I love chewing them, but I call it redesigning, as it adds to the look.

What’s the best party you have ever been to?

There are many of them but perhaps the one that mum threw for Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis in our garden. I can relate to royals. I also like going to fashion shoots where I can play with Chanel jewelry and chew the bags.

2015-07-01-1435779335-2782918-kimberlymwangmrssizzle1.jpeg

What’s your favorite treat?

Doing whatever I feel like and getting away with it. That’s the ultimate treat.

What happens when you get in trouble?

I usually don’t get in trouble. At least I think so, but others might disagree.

What’s your favorite scent?

I only enjoy specific scents like the smell of a hot fresh turkey burger or my mum’s coffee. I also love my big brother Jack’s dirty socks–just divine.

Thanks Lupo – we had a blast with you and your sister Milou.

Rosie Perez Is (Really) Leaving ‘The View’

Rosie Perez is leaving ABC’s “The View” — apparently for real this time.

ABC News reports that the Oscar-nominated actress will not be returning to the talk show next season. The 50-year-old, who joined “The View” last September, is said to be leaving the program to pursue “her love for acting” full-time. She’s currently starring in Larry David’s Broadway play “Fish in the Dark.”

“Stepping into the role of talk show host at the same time she has been starring on Broadway has been incredibly impressive,” Executive Producer Bill Wolff said in an email to staff, per ABC. “And beyond being an enormously talented performer, Rosie is a dedicated advocate who has brought passion and insight to the panel every day … [She] will always be a part of ‘The View’ family, and we will welcome her back as a guest anytime to catch up.”

This isn’t the first time that reports have surfaced about Perez’s impending departure from the show. In January, Variety reported that Perez had been fired from “The View” after ABC executives determined that she wasn’t the “right fit.” However, ABC is said to have “backpedaled on the plan,” and Perez stayed on the air.

It remains unclear who will be filling Perez’s seat on the show. Her last day will be in August.

What It’s Really Like to Date a Single Parent

I’ve read several articles lately about why men should date single mothers, and I agree with all of them. Single moms are often resilient, selfless beings who put others’ needs before their own — great qualities to seek out in a partner to be sure. Due to personal experience, I also know that there is some hesitance in the dating world when it comes to dating a single parent, and can I just say — I get it.

In the spirit of full disclosure, you should know that I’ve never liked dating. Not when I was a teenager. Not when I was in college. And especially not now that I’m divorced. To be clear, I like the part where you find one person who you enjoy spending time with and talking to on a regular basis. I do not like going on countless first dates, agonizing over what to wear, what to say, how not to spill food on myself and then replaying the date in my head for days afterward analyzing the highlights (or low points).

Dating as a single parent is a whole different game — one that is played in a foreign language and where the rules are made up as you go along. In addition to the normal dating woes, there are other factors (and people) to consider. If you are contemplating dating a single parent, be prepared to encounter the following:

The stars will need to align for a date to happen: Ok, this is an exaggeration, but dating a single parent requires a little more planning and advanced notice than you might be used to. If I’m not going out on a Wednesday night or every other weekend (and I know this is a luxury not afforded to every single parent), I have to arrange for a sitter. It will also have to be an evening when there are no tee-ball games or VBS or birthday parties. Spontaneity, while thrilling, doesn’t really have a place in my life these days (unless it’s a Wednesday or every other weekend).

We value our time: This is true for most people, I know, but I’ve found myself getting more upset over canceled or rescheduled dates as a single parent than I ever did before. Why? My kid-free time is limited and precious. I try to cram as much into this time as possible — friend dates, grocery trips, cleaning, house projects, work projects — you get the idea. If I have carved out time for a date, that means that I’ve probably put several other things on hold. While the occasional cancelation is inevitable, the habitual canceler will likely be dropped from the calendar.

We come with some (pretty cute) baggage: You think this would go without saying, but I’m going to go ahead and say it anyway — single parents, by definition, have kids. And they’re our top priority regardless of who we’re dating. While a potential suitor won’t be meeting my kids on the first date (or several thereafter), my adorable redheads are going to make their way into my thoughts and my conversations, so if you don’t want to hear about my son’s obsession with baseball or my genius daughter’s recent spelling and counting achievements, then I’m not a match for you. In addition, if we’ve been dating for awhile and you show no interest in meeting my kids, that, too, will raise red flags.

There might be some not-so-cute baggage: Most of the time breakups mean you don’t have to see your ex ever again (except maybe for that unfortunate run-in at Starbucks or the grocery). With single parents, though, that is often not the case. Although I am my children’s primary caregiver, they also have a father who is present in their lives. He sees them weekly and attends extra-curricular activities. There’s no way around the fact that he is and will continue to be a part of my life. While my relationship with my ex is civil, others are not so lucky. Regardless, dating a single parent might mean that you will have to encounter the ex, a task that, understandably, not everyone is up for.

So to the men and women who know they are not ready to tackle dating a single parent, I say, “thank you.” You are saving yourself, another human, and (possibly) some little ones from wasted time and hurt feelings. If you’re up to the challenge, though, dating a single parent can be extremely rewarding (I’m not biased or anything). Some of the best people I know are single parents. In any case, this blog isn’t meant to scare you but instead to prepare you for, and perhaps enlighten you to, the uncharted territory that is dating a single parent.
