Gucci to Hold Cruise 2020 Show in Rome

CLOSE TO HOME: Gucci is not traveling far for its cruise 2020 fashion show — instead, it has selected one of the most striking sites in Rome: the Capitoline Museums.
The show will be held May 28 and the choice of the location results from creative director Alessandro Michele’s ongoing interest in “the Old World,” said the company, “this time drawing from a place reminiscent of his childhood.”
Located on the Capitoline Hill, the museums display a large number of ancient Roman statues, inscriptions, and other artifacts; a collection of medieval and Renaissance art, and collections of jewels and coins, among others.
In line with his interests, most recently Michele shot the brand’s pre-fall 2019 collection in the archaeological parks of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Selinunte.
Previous Gucci Cruise shows were held at the Dia-Art Foundation in New York City; the Cloisters of Westminster Abbey in London; the Palatine Gallery at Pitti Palace in Florence, and last year, the Promenade Des Alyscamps in a Roman necropolis in the southern French city of Arles.
In addition, over the next two years the Florence-based company will make a donation to support the restoration project of the Rupe Tarpea, the Tarpeian Rock, a steep cliff of the southern summit

Emperor of Rome Marcus Aurelius

Genre: Fiction & Literature

Publish Date: February 25, 2017

Publisher: Emperor Of Rome Marcus Aurelius

Seller: StreetLib Srl

Marcus Aurelius was Roman Emperor from 161 to 180. He was the last of the Five Good Emperors, and is also considered one of the most important Stoic philosophers. While on campaign between 170 and 180, Aurelius wrote his Meditations in Greek as a source for his own guidance and self-improvement. The title of this work was added posthumously—originally he titled his work simply: "To Myself". He had a logical mind and his notes were representative of Stoic philosophy and spirituality. Meditations is still revered as a literary monument to a government of service and duty. The book has been a favourite of Frederick the Great, John Stuart Mill, Matthew Arnold, Goethe, Wen Jiabao, and Bill Clinton.

Francesco Scognamiglio Marks 20th Anniversary With Couture Runway Show in Rome

MILAN — Francesco Scognamiglio is gearing up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his namesake fashion house with a couture show to be held in Rome on Sunday night, the closing day of the city’s Altaroma haute couture fashion week.
The designer, who was born in Naples in 1975, launched his label in 1998 in Pompeii, but actually made his runway debut in 2000 with a show at Rome’s Palazzo Barberini.
“This couture show is a comeback, a sort of tribute to my origins,” said Scognamiglio, who also expressed his gratitude to Alta Roma president Silvia Venturini Fendi, who offered him the opportunity to host his anniversary runway show at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in the Italian capital.
“Hosting my anniversary show in Rome, I also want to pay homage to my country,” he added, revealing that from July he will return to show his couture collections in Paris. The designer was admitted to the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in 2016, a key year for Scognamiglio as he also moved the brand’s headquarters, design studio and atelier into a space inside an ancient palazzo located a stone’s throw from Milan’s Duomo Cathedral.

Prepare to be thrusted into that space in this edition of The Wrap Up. But don’t worry, records from Problem, Toro y Moi and Rome Fortune, rising rapper IshDARR and more provide balance in the list below.

Are You Sure You Know Rome?

2015-06-16-1434486551-4778780-Rome1.jpg

Lorcan O’Neill
Via Orti d’Alibert, 1 (Trastevere)
The gallery of Irish gallerist Lorcan O’Neill is hidden in a small street in Trastevere. Important artists of the international contemporary scene are hosted here, including Francesco Clemente, Tracy Emin and Anselm Kiefer. Laurita Parrilla (in the picture with a Fendi Baguette), who manages the gallery, received us just before the opening of the solo exhibition of the Canadian photographer Jeff Wall. The opening of every show is celebrated with a toast in the soccer field of the senior center just across the way.

In The Old Mill

Lanificio Cucina
Via di Pietralata 159/a
Tel 064501384 (Pietralata)
Until a short time ago the Lanificio wool mill of Pietralata was just an enormous, disused and falling down warehouse overlooking the Aniene in a district far from the center of the city. And then it became a culture and entertainment center, with dancing classes, vintage markets, and, most importantly, the Lanificio Cucina restaurant. Here it is possible to sit at a table in front of the large windows in front of the river, drink a glass of organic wine and eat refined organic dishes. It’s always open.

An Evening In Trastevere

2015-06-16-1434486613-6857242-Rome3.jpg

Trattoria da Teo
Piazza dei Ponziani 7 (Trastevere)
Sitting on the riverbank facing Tiberina Island lies one of the best restaurants in the city, tended to with passion by its chef, Teo, and his family. It serves plentiful portions of rigatoni amatriciana, artichokes Roman or Jewish-style and fine dishes of fish, such as prawn tempura or tomatoes stuffed with seared prawns, pachino tomatoes and basil. In times of economic crisis the latest craze with younger people is to have a pre-bill made, to see if they can allow themselves to eat more.

The Mod Hair Salon

2015-06-16-1434486743-6943942-Rome5.jpg

Via Urbana 52 (Monti district)

Behind the historical façades of Roman residential buildings hide breath-taking apartments. If you are staying a few days, you can rent a house in Rome going through the “Wonder where to Stay” agency.

In the district of Rome which is becoming the night life centre of the city even the hairdressers adapt. This is the case of Mod Hair Salon, which has the atmosphere of a barber from days gone by, but which is much more sophisticated, with vintage rock’n’roll décor. Open every day until 21.00, 22.00 on Wednesdays (you could find yourself sitting next to Riccardo Scamarcio who has his hair cut by Emanuele Vona or his partner Oni).

To Take Away

2015-06-16-1434486707-5861606-Rome6.jpg

Mia Market
Via Panisperna 225 (Monti district)
A wall covered with pages from old-fashioned botanical and recipe books, with baskets of organic fruit and vegetables resting on them. A counter with jars of fresh pulse salads and then cold meats, cheese and bread. At Mia Market you can do the shopping and take it home, or sit down to eat, reading the newspaper in a homely environment.

FISH!

2015-06-16-1434486794-1210348-Rome7.jpg

Fish Market
Via di Pietralata, 149b (Pietralata)
A successful experiment for this fish restaurant-market with its amusing and cheap formula: “choose your fish, how you’d like it cooked, take it to the table and eat.” The fish market is to be found in the converted industrial area of the Lanificio mill. Only open evenings. Bookings taken at 3470095009.

The Dreaming Atelier

2015-06-16-1434486771-7878738-Rome8.jpg

Livia Risi
Via dei Vascellari, 37 (Trastevere)
The atelier of the designer Livia Risi, granddaughter of the film director Dino, is a reflection of her world. Once through the door, you find yourself in a room of toys or dreams, which take their shape in the clothes designed by Livia, in the accessories and in the photos and drawings hanging on the walls.

Gossip At The Cemetery

2015-06-16-1434486816-4411457-Rome9.jpg

Protestant Cemetery
Via Caio Cestio 6 (Testaccio)
A large garden in the shade of the Cestia pyramid, with the tombs of poets, artists and travelers. In Protestant style: no macabre details, but English lawn, sculptures, maritime pines, field flowers and cats wandering around. Look for the gravestone with the inscription Novità? Where a curious intellectual rests, and whose friends, still today, go to tell him what the gossip of the moment is. In the Cemetery’s bookshop, you can find Alessandro Rubinetti’s romanticized guide book (publisher Iacobelli) to be read while sitting on the bench in front of John Keats’ grave.

Around The Ghetto

2015-06-16-1434486840-190758-Rome10.jpg

Kosher Bistrot
Via Santa Maria del Pianto 68-69 (Ghetto)
The first place of its kind to open on Piazza Costaguti, renovated by the architect and designern Marco Valenti in the style of the 30s revisited. Tables on the square to sit at and taste hot or cold dishes, kosher (like everything else) wine and mint tea with almonds at any time of day.

Aperitif Time

2015-06-16-1434486863-4474133-Rome11.jpg

Il Baretto
Via Garibaldi 24 (Gianicolo-Trastevere)
An old bar in a unique position between the Gianicolo and the Trastevere, Il Baretto was renovated by Allegra Marinucci and her husband Richard Ercolani with vintage decor, in stark contrast to the steel window frames and the large windows on the terrace. It opens at 5 p.m. Expect aperitifs and a DJ set.
