The Rolling Stones From The Vault: No Security – San Jose 1999

The Rolling Stones

Genre: Concert Films

Price: $ 9.99

Release Date: July 13, 2018

This latest addition to the acclaimed From The Vaults series was filmed at the San Jose Arena on The Rolling Stones’ No Security tour, which ran from January to June 1999 through North America and Europe. It followed on from the colossal Bridges To Babylon tour and took its name from the “No Security” live album recorded on that 1997/98 tour. In reaction to the huge stadiums played on Bridges To Babylon the conscious decision was made to book the band into smaller venues for the initial North American leg of the No Security tour. This show was filmed in April 1999 in front of an audience of a little over 30,000 (intimate by Rolling Stones standards!) at the end of the North American dates. Previously unreleased, it captures the band in top form playing a set that spans from mid-sixties hit singles up to the then current Bridges To Babylon album.

Forever 21 Releases Details of Security Breach

Forever 21 said Thursday it is tightening security efforts at its store cash wraps following its disclosure last month of a breach at some of its U.S. stores.
Details of the security breach, which was first disclosed publicly by the company in November, did not include how many stores within the U.S. were impacted or in what states. The retailer said it is continuing to look at whether any of its overseas stores were impacted since those doors run off of point-of-sale systems different from its domestic locations.
Forever 21 does business in 57 countries via a fleet of more than 815 stores.
The company said encryption technology at some cash registers had been turned off in certain cases and malware installed by criminals looking to mine the system for customer payment data. Forever 21 confirmed the malware was able to access cardholder names in some instances but in most cases was only able to obtain card numbers, expirations and verification codes.
The vulnerability in the system occurred between April 3 and Nov. 18 of this year with each store impacted by the breach subject to varying lengths of exposure ranging from days to the entire April-November period, Forever 21 said. The company’s investigation

News in Brief: Department Of Homeland Security Not About To Raise Alert Level For 14th Anniversary Of 9/11

WASHINGTON—Explaining that the preventative measure was totally unnecessary, Department of Homeland Security officials announced Friday that they were not about to raise the country’s alert level for the 14th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. “Let’s be honest, if groups like al-Qaeda or ISIS were planning an attack to coincide with the anniversary of 9/11, they would choose one of the big ones like the fifth or the 10th, not this one,” said Department of Homeland Security secretary Jeh Johnson, adding that as far as symbolically meaningful anniversaries go, the 14th “doesn’t even come close.” “Trust us, when 9/11 rolls around again next year the threat level will be through the roof, but we should be fine today. If you’re going to worry about anything, it should be the big 2-0 coming up in 2021.” Johnson later confirmed that a large-scale attack on …

The U.S. And Chile Got The UN Security Council To Talk LGBT Rights

WASHINGTON — The most powerful body at the United Nations on Monday had its first ever conversation about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues.

A group of speakers — including two gay Middle Eastern survivors of anti-LGBT persecution by the Islamic State militant group, as well as U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson and an advocate for global LGBT equality — addressed an informal gathering of top diplomats whose countries sit on the U.N. Security Council.

The United States and Chile co-sponsored the event, which was unprecedented for the Security Council, a number of whose member states are notoriously intolerant of LGBT people. The event’s organizers, mindful of the diplomatic sensitivities that accompany discussions of LGBT issues, classified the event as an Arria-formula meeting – a type of unofficial, confidential and non-mandatory gathering of Security Council members.

Thirteen of the 15 current Security Council member states attended Monday’s meeting, a U.N. diplomat in attendance told The Huffington Post. Angola and Chad were the only countries that skipped the event.

Samantha Power, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N., launched the event by acknowledging its groundbreaking nature.

“Today we are making U.N. history,” Power told the attendees. “This is the first time in history that the Council has held a meeting on the victimization of LGBT persons. It is the first time we are saying, in a single voice, that it is wrong to target people because of their sexual orientation and gender identity. It is a historic step. And it is, as we all know, long overdue.”

Referring to the Islamic State group’s widely publicized targeting of LGBTQ residents of Iraq and Syria, Power told the diplomats that “we are coming together as a Security Council to condemn these acts, to demand they stop, and to commit to one day bringing the perpetrators to justice. That unified condemnation matters.”

A gay man from Iraq, who addressed the Security Council members by phone using a pseudonym, had previously told The New York Times that he “hadn’t been breathing” for weeks as he tried to escape the Islamic State militants who took over his hometown.

The other man, a Syrian named Subhi Nahas, had faced threats from both the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian affiliate of al Qaeda, Power told the Security Council gathering.

Power pointed out that it’s not only extremist groups like the Islamic State that target LGBT individuals in these countries. Both men had faced discrimination and threats from Iraqis and Syrians not linked to the Islamic State or to Jabhat an-Nusra, she said.

“While the targeting of LGBT individuals in the region appears to have worsened as ISIL’s power has grown, such violence and hatred existed well before the group’s dramatic rise, and that violence and hatred extends far beyond ISIL’s membership,” Power said, using the Obama administration’s preferred name for the Islamic State group. “Condemning ISIL’s violent and systematic targeting of LGBT individuals is the easiest step we can take today. Because while today’s session is focused on the crimes against LGBT persons committed by ISIL, we know the scope of this problem is much broader.”

“The effort to defend the equal rights of LGBT persons must also be waged within every one of our countries, even those where important progress has been made — and that includes in the United States,” she continued. “For just as this year we have made tremendous strides in advancing LGBT rights in the United States, we are under no illusion that the work is finished. Every one of our countries can and must do more to advance these rights domestically.”

The U.N. Security Council comprises 15 countries. Five of them, including the U.S., are permanent members, and two of those permanent member states, Russia and China, have received international criticism for their track records on LGBT rights. The current group of 10 non-permanent members includes LGBT-friendly countries like Chile and New Zealand, but also countries like Nigeria, where same-sex couples can be imprisoned for up to 14 years.

Power told the Times that the U.S. hopes to get LGBT rights “into the DNA” of the U.N.

That way, she said, “when you’re talking about minorities or vulnerable groups, you would always have L.G.B.T. people included.”

Filing for Ex-Spouse Social Security Benefits: Does Your Ex Have to Be Involved?

Dear Carrie,

I’m turning 65 in a few months, and getting close to retiring. My ex is also turning 65, and as far as I know, he’s still working. I’d like to file for my ex-spouse’s Social Security benefits, but don’t really want to talk to him about it. Does he have to be involved?

–A Reader

Dear Reader,

I’m getting a lot of questions about ex-spouses and Social Security lately, so I’m going to try to broaden my answer to yours to cover a few more bases.

The direct answer to your question is no, your ex doesn’t have to be involved for you to collect benefits based on his record–assuming that your marriage and divorce status qualifies under Social Security rules governing ex-spouse benefits. He doesn’t even have to have filed for benefits himself; he only has to be eligible (at least age 62). As long as he’s eligible to collect, you’re eligible for a spousal benefit.

Your own age plays a part in how much that benefit will be. Once you’re 66, or what the IRS calls your full retirement age (FRA), you’re entitled to 50 percent of your ex’s full primary insurance amount (PIA), which is the benefit he would get at his FRA. So if your ex’s PIA were estimated to be $ 1,600, at your FRA you’d collect $ 800. But if you collect early, there’s a penalty in the form of a reduction of 25/36 of 1 percent for every month you’re ahead of your FRA. Therefore, collecting at your current age of 65 (12 months early) would permanently reduce your benefit by just over 8 percent. Based on this example, you’d collect about $ 733.

Unfortunately, if you aren’t in touch with your ex and don’t know his PIA, you won’t know exactly what your spousal benefit will be until you file. The Social Security Administration (SSA) can’t tell you anything in advance.

Bottom line, the fact that your ex doesn’t have to be involved can be a plus–but figuring out how to maximize your benefit requires a closer look.

Digging into the details

Your age, the length of your marriage and your current marital status all factor into whether you qualify for an ex-spousal benefit. I’ve described these in another column, and chances are you’ve read them before, but I think they bear repeating. In a nutshell:

  • You must be at least 62 years old.
  • You must have been married for a minimum of 10 years.
  • If your ex hasn’t yet filed for benefits but is eligible, you must have been divorced for two years.
  • You must be currently unmarried.
  • If you did remarry, that marriage must have ended.
  • If you’re under your FRA, the benefit based on your own work record must be less than the spousal benefit from your ex.

If you have more than one ex-spouse (with a minimum 10-year marriage), you can collect on either spouse’s record, but not both. Likewise, you can’t collect simultaneously on your own work record and an ex’s. It’s one or the other.

Important tips about timing

If you meet these basic qualifications, the next step is to decide when to file. Here’s where it can pay to do some strategizing. To help clarify, let’s look at a couple of scenarios.

Filing before FRA–Helen and John have been divorced for seven years after a 20-year marriage. She wants to collect a spousal benefit on John’s record at age 62, and then switch to her own benefit at her full retirement age.

Unfortunately, this wouldn’t work. When you file for ex-spousal benefits before your FRA, you can’t then switch to your own benefits. Not only that, at age 62 your benefit would be the greater of either your own benefit (reduced because you filed early) or the spousal benefit (also reduced). As you can see, filing before your FRA not only lowers your benefit amount, it limits your options.

Filing at FRA–Todd and Gwen divorced after 10 years of marriage. Gwen remarried but Todd didn’t. Todd is now 66 and Gwen is 64. Even though Todd’s full benefit is higher than Gwen’s, he wants to collect on her work record and let his own benefit grow until he reaches 70.

This is a realistic strategy. First, Gwen’s marital status doesn’t affect whether or not Todd can collect on her record; only his own marital status is important. Also, even though Gwen is younger, at age 66 Todd can collect 50 percent of the full benefit she would receive at her FRA. And because Todd is at his FRA, he can choose to collect the spousal benefit now and switch to his own benefit later. Every year he waits to collect on his own work record, he’ll earn delayed retirement credits of around 8 percent until he reaches 70.

As you can see, the main issue is whether you file before or after your FRA. In my opinion, it’s generally best to wait unless you’re in a financial bind. But never postpone a spousal or ex-spousal benefit past FRA because it maxes out at that age.

An extra word about remarriage–and survivors’ benefits

The issue of remarriage can be confusing because the rules are different for spousal and survivors’ benefits. As I said, you must be unmarried to collect any ex-spousal benefit. However, with survivor benefits, if you remarry after age 60, you can collect on your ex’s record no matter your marital status. Plus, if you’ve survived more than one spouse, you can choose to collect on the one with the higher benefit–and even switch between them if, for instance, a spouse with a lower benefit dies before a spouse with a higher benefit.

The SSA does a pretty good job of explaining the details at ssa.gov, however, if you still have questions, you could look for a financial advisor who specializes in Social Security issues. You don’t want to leave money on the table!

Travi$ Scott Gets Into Scuffle With His Concert Security Guards

(AllHipHop News) Yesterday (Aug. 19), while performing at Las Vegas’s SLS, Travi$ Scott came to the rescue of an overzealous fan. The Scott supporter was ultimately allowed to briefly share the stage with Travi$ before he crowd surfed into oblivion, this according to TMZ.

As evidenced in a video obtained by the site, sans a cape, the Rodeo rapper stepped into the fray to purportedly ensure the safety of this fan. A cluster of security guards assessed the situation, Travi$ is seen on stage repeatedly  exclaiming “Hey,” before he added, “Yo, leave this muthaf**ka alone, all you lime green shirt wearing muthaf**kas, back the f**k up!”

There’s nothing like being down for the day-one fans.

As more details about how Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán managed to escape from a maximum security prison in Mexico, again, are revealed, the more outlandish the situation becomes. Surveillance footage of El Chapo in his cell just before he leisurely made his escape has been revealed.

Reports Gawker:

The video was released tonight during a press conference held by Mexico’s National Security Commissioner Monte Alejandro Rubido. In the clip, you can see Guzmán—who currently has a $ 3.8 million bounty on his head—pacing in his cell, from the bed to the shower and back. At one point, he disappears behind the shower stall before emerging again. He walks back to his bed, appears to put on shoes, then returns to the shower and drops through what we now know was a two-by-two foot hole in the floor, gone for good.

Did we mention that the tunnel was fully illuminated? Bruh…

5 Things Same-Sex Couples Need To Know About Social Security

Until the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling requiring states to recognize same-sex marriages, Social Security was a crapshoot for gay couples. The Social Security Act says that in order for a surviving or former spouse to receive benefits from a worker’s record, the state that couple lived in needed to recognized their marriage. So if a same-sex married couple were legally married in one state but lived in a state that didn’t recognize their marriage, no spousal benefits could be claimed.

But the recent court ruling changed all that. States are now required to allow same-sex marriage and to recognize those marriages when they occur in other states. And that recognition opens the door to Social Security’s spousal and survivor benefits — considered to be among the most valuable features of the program.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that now same-sex couples can be as confused as heterosexual couples are when it comes to tapping into the SSA. Here are five things everyone should know:

1. For all things Social Security, it pays to be married — literally.
At your full retirement age, your benefit as a spouse can be equal to one-half of your mate’s full retirement amount. Claiming Social Security benefits as a married couple (instead of as two single individuals) can increase additional lifetime benefits significantly — in some cases, to the tune of $ 100,000 or more.

2. When your spouse dies, you will be provided for.
There are a ton of rules around claiming survivor benefits, but in a nutshell, if you are married and your spouse dies, you can claim Social Security benefits based on their working record instead of your own. So, if your spouse earned way more than you did, you would be eligible to receive their higher earned benefit for the rest of your life — which, again, wouldn’t be possible if you claimed Social Security as two single individuals. If you and your spouse earn about the same, the impact of this benefit will be minimal. But prior to the Supreme Court ruling, not having your marriage recognized meant no money paid to a survivor.

3. To have loved and lost beats never having loved at all.
Put more directly: Divorce beats never marrying. That’s because if you are divorced, you can still collect Social Security benefits from the work record of your ex. Doing this won’t impact how much his/her present spouse collects. This only works if you are single though. Once you remarry, this money faucet turns off. To get benefits as an ex-spouse, your marriage must have lasted at least 10 years.

4. Opposite-sex couples may still get more Social Security money than same-sex couples.
Financial Engines recently estimated that the value of spousal and survivor benefits is even larger for heterosexual couples because there are greater age differences among spouses in opposite-sex marriages. These age differences increase the potential values of marriage benefits, especially survivor benefits. Women outlive men and spend more than 11 years on average as widows, according to the Society of Actuaries, so survivor benefits are enormously important to them.

5. Social Security is like a tree trunk with many branches.
Let’s start with a principal earner who is eligible for Social Security retirement benefits. A little-known feature of the Social Security system is that in addition to paying retirement benefits for the retired worker, it may provide benefits to the worker’s spouse, an ex-spouse if the marriage lasted at least 10 years, and dependent children and grandchildren, depending on the circumstances. Moreover, these benefits can be paid all at the same time.

Anyone have any other pieces of wisdom to share when it comes to Social Security? Please tell us about it in comments.

The Time I Scared a Security Guard by Being an Old White Guy

The other day I was walking through a big hotel in San Diego, on my way to give a keynote speech for a corporate event. I was the only person at the conference without an ID badge and I wondered how hard it would be to talk my way past security.

I figured it would help that a life-size photo of me as the keynote presenter was sitting in the hallway by the entrance to the conference. My plan was to wait for security to stop me (if they even noticed) then point to the poster and breeze right in.

An alert security guard picked me out of the crowd and stopped me on my approach. I smiled and introduced myself as the keynote speaker, pointing to my life-sized photo as evidence.

That didn’t work.

I could tell that the guard had specific instructions to not let ANYONE in without a badge. And he would need to leave his post to check on me, which was not an option. What to do?

There was no real problem here. All I had to do was text my contact, who was probably a hundred feet away, and he would take me in. And I was plenty early, so time wasn’t an issue. I was all smiles and understanding. Perfectly patient. I understood the guard needed to do his job and was happy to let him.

I have never seen such a frightened employee. He was clearly afraid of losing his job. Somehow my carefree attitude had scared the bejeezus out of him.

I think I know why.

As a younger man, I was dubious that my maleness and my whiteness were conferring an advantage. I did not have the option of viewing the world through the eyes of others, and from my own vantage point I saw no special treatment for YOUNG white men. You can argue convincingly that I was blind to my advantage. But my point is that whatever advantage I had was never obvious to me in day-to-day dealings. I will admit to thinking the whole white-guy advantage was overblown.

Then I got older.

I have learned from experience that no one wants to fuck with a 58-year old white guy who speaks with confidence.

When I was in my twenties, people probably assumed I was a powerless member of society, and they would have been right. The only tools I had at my disposal were my inexperienced mind and my manly muscles that I was not allowed to use in business settings. I was no threat to anyone, and no immediate benefit to anyone. My memory is that people treated me that way, i.e. like dog shit. All the time.

Now fast-forward to my current age and imagine what this security guard saw coming at him.

Several hours before a big speech I begin a process that will focus all of my energy into a one-hour block of my day. I’m in a great mood, because I enjoy speaking, but my intensity is probably palpable. And I have a confident manner in general, whether I feel that way or not. (Yeah, I know it isn’t always a good thing.)

I have realized over time that when a white male my age talks with confidence, people assume he must be a CEO of something, or important in some way. And everyone assumes that guy has weapons.

They are right. Thanks to experience, I know how to get people fired if I need to. I can send lawyers after people if necessary. I know what buttons to push and when. I know how to negotiate, persuade, threaten, and scare. I know how to get inside someone’s head and turn them inside out. I have connections. I have experience. I have resources.

In a word, I’m dangerous.

At my current age, I feel my white-guy advantage kicking in all the time. People treat me with deference and respect even if they don’t know what I do for a living. As soon as I open my mouth, people start worrying that I might be the boss of something important because of how I look and act.

The security guard eventually waved me through, but he was literally shaking by the time he decided that doing what I wanted him to do was the best way of keeping his job. And I got that just by being polite and patient. He still didn’t want to take a chance.

I’m wondering if my experience is common. I assume age confers advantages to all demographic groups. Have you found that to be true in your experience?

Security Guard

Just a few weeks after taking a job as a security guard, my husband announced that he had been fired. He explained that he’d fallen asleep at this
desk and someone broke into the building.

“But you’re such a light sleeper,” I said. “I’m surprised the sound of the guy breaking in didn’t wake you up.”

“I didn’t get fired for falling asleep,” he confessed. “I was fired for wearing my earplugs.”

National Security and Privacy Secretly Wed in Las Vegas

Following months of rumors, it’s been revealed that Privacy and National Security were secretly married weeks ago in Las Vegas, Nevada. “We’re tired of all the naysayers constantly describing us as incompatible. We’ll show you. We’ll show you all! Ha!” the couple wrote in a phone text message to friends that was, ironically, extracted by government analysts randomly searching piles of metadata.

The pair exchanged vows at the Holy Chapel of the Inebriates and chose a Western-themed ceremony which featured tumbleweeds, yodelers, but did not include a cash-only minister fee of $ 60. “They made such a lovely couple,” said one of the witnesses who wished to remain anonymous; he was later identified as 58-year-old Byron Hattentoll through information extracted by government analysts randomly searching piles of metadata.

(Breaking news: Eight hours after the wedding, Privacy and National Security filed for divorce, citing Constitutionally irreconcilable differences. Their mutual acquaintance Due Process noted: “Duh.”)

Justin Bieber Placed In Chokehold By Security, Kicked Out Of Coachella: Report

Days after an Argentine judge issued an arrest warrant for his “immediate detention,” Justin Bieber has reportedly landed himself in hot soup again — this time, getting kicked out of Coachella after being placed in a chokehold by security staff.

According to TMZ, the 21-year-old singer was booted out of the festival Sunday night after getting into a squabble with security.

Bieber and his entourage had apparently tried to gain entry to the artists’ area where Drake was performing, but were stopped by security who said that the area was full.

Per TMZ:

Eyewitnesses [said] Bieber argued with security, saying there was no way he could stand in a big crowd because he’d get bombarded by fans. Security wasn’t having it and told him to leave.

[…] At that point a Coachella staffer came up to Bieber and said she would escort him inside the artist’s area. She grabbed Bieber by the arm and began walking him and his security team inside, when Coachella security came up from behind and put Bieber in a chokehold. We’re told Bieber’s team got into it with security and the singer was then ordered to leave the festival.

The “Baby” singer is reportedly considering suing the security staff. HuffPost has reached out to Bieber’s rep for comment.

This isn’t the first time that Bieber has been thrown out of a location. In 2013, he was reportedly chucked out of a Chicago nightclub after getting caught drinking underage. Back in 2010, the singer allegedly was told to leave a Massachusetts movie theater after he and his friends were nabbed while trying to sneak into a 21-plus only VIP area.
