Typically, it’s awards season’s loudest red carpet. But Sunday night’s Grammys fashion was unusually quiet — and covered up.
Without Beyonce, Rihanna, Taylor Swift or Ariana Grande, who ditched the awards show after creative differences with producers (but wore her Zac Posen gown on Instagram anyway), the diva quotient was down, with only Cardi B’s meme-generating vintage 1995 Thierry Mugler Venus on the half shell look, and Janelle Monae’s sharp-shouldered Jean Paul Gaultier couture minidress to get armchair critics going.
Even Lady Gaga, who famously arrived at the 2011 Grammys in an Armani egg pod, played it relatively safe (she’s a movie star now, after all), wearing a silver, side-ruffle gown by Hedi Slimane for Celine (a no-brainer given that she attended his first women’s ready-to-wear show in October).
Long gone were the nearly nude looks of years past; instead of baring her naval in daring green Versace circa 2000, Jennifer Lopez went with a modest, crystal-embellished mint green Ralph and Russo column gown, and covered her face with a wide-brim hat; Miley Cyrus worked an oversized circa 2019 Mugler suit with a side of cleavage, and H.E.R. was outfitted in a custom Coach purple jacquard jumpsuit.

Marina Abramović, a New York-based performance artist, collaborated with Jay Z for the Brooklyn mogul’s lavish “Picasso Baby” video from 2013’s Magna Carta Holy Grail. Abramović revealed in a recent interview that the experience left her disappointed and that she’ll never work with the rapper again.
Abramović spoke at length about the collaboration with Spike Art Magazine, detailing how Jay Z adapted her 2010 performance piece “The Artist Is Present:” which was held at the Museum of Modern Art. Abramović said that she agreed to work with Jay Z based on a financial agreement they made, but apparently that deal never came to pass.
More from Spike:
How did you feel when Jay-Z told you that he would be adapting “The Artist is Present” for his music video “Picasso Baby” in 2013?
I didn’t feel much. There are hundreds of people adapting my work. I have young pop groups who adapt my work. Just now, somebody’s made a porno movie called “Zadie is present”, have you seen that? [laughs] It’s insane!
But the difference with Jay-Z was that you yourself took part in his video shoot.
Yes, but there was one reason for this that I can’t talk about. I am very pissed by this since he adapted my work under one condition: that he would help my institute. Which he didn’t.

Note to self: If you find a bun in your kitchen oven, don’t take it lightly. That’s the lesson one woman learned in this hilarious footage featured on America’s Funniest Home Videos.
As she went to put a dish in the oven, the unsuspecting woman found a randomly placed bun inside. “Somebody’s toasting bread,” the woman named Lynnda says, thinking nothing more of the message.
It took a little more prodding before she said, “Not the bun in the oven I want!” joking with her daughter only to realize seconds later the joke was on her.
Probably one of the cutest pregnancy announcements we’ve ever seen.
