7 Awesome Hawaiian Shirts to Try This Summer

It’s been a wild ride for the Hawaiian shirt. But after more than 80 years of going in and out of style, the summer look is back—and it’s never looked better.

Today’s Hawaiian shirt is the ultimate throwback: Created in the 1930s, these vivid layers were originally known as aloha shirts (and are still called that on the islands), and they’ve been riding trend waves ever since.

3 Lightweight Sport Coats to Class Up Your Summer Look

The fashion world’s shift toward outlandish colors and patterns led to their recent resurgence, and because they’ve been around so long, they won’t look out of place at your next barbecue. The trick? Don’t wear anything that’s going to compete with your pineapple- or jellyfish-printed wardrobe addition.

11 Not-So-Standard Flannel Shirts to Keep You Warm This Fall

Flannel’s soft touch and incomparable warmth have made it a go-to fall shirting fabric for almost as long as “fall shirting” has been a concept. A good fashion historian will tell you that the fabric emerged in Wales sometime in the 17th century as a less-scratchy alternative to traditional woolen garments.

Meet the $25 Shirts That Look Like A Million Bucks

If you’re the kind of guy who wears button downs as often as other guys wear t-shirts, you’ll know how difficult it can be to find the right combination of style and value. You’ll also likely have to replace them a lot more often than everyone else. And with many quality clothiers opening the floor for dress shirts and button downs around the $ 80 mark, that can get pretty pricey, pretty fast.

A classic Western shirt can be the perfect option for brunch or bar-hopping. But if you’re not careful, you can come off looking like a rodeo clown—or a reject from Hee Haw. The secret to pulling this look off is in both the particular Western shirt you choose as well as what you wear it with. Uniqlo Sees Marvel Fan-Favorites Spider-Man and Jessica Jones on Shirts

Do we need another hero? Uniqlo apparently thinks so.
The Fast Retail brand revealed exclusively to WWD that the theme of its 2018 UTGP, or Uniqlo T-Shirt Grand Prix contest, is Marvel.
“We hope this will inspire artists and fans around the world to participate in UTGP in new and unique ways,” said Rei Matsunuma, Uniqlo director of the UT collaboration business, adding that submissions for the contest will be accepted starting Monday through Aug. 31.
The partnership between Marvel and Uniqlo isn’t a big surprise. Marvel is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Walt Disney Co., with which Uniqlo has had a relationship since 2009.
“Magic for All,” Uniqlo’s partnership with Disney, will introduce three new collections online and in select stores. Mickey Travels, with designs based on the early Mickey Mouse short film, “Steamboat Willie,” and comic strips from the Thirties, bows on July 31. Besides tote bags, makeup bags and graphic T-shirts, there are sweatshirts, sweaters and souvenir jackets with designs such as Minnie Mouse with a Japanese volcano framed by cherry blossoms, on the back.
The Disney textile collection for babies and children is launching next month. Cathy Nordstrom designed patterns with characters such as Bambi and Chip and Dale in a soft

The Problem With These Forever 21 Shirts

A video on Buzzfeed prompted me to check out Forever21’s website. I am way over the age of being allowed to set foot inside the physical store, but the video gave women’s reactions to some of their graphic t-shirts and I had to know what all the fuss was about.

What I discovered was an array of shirts which seem to be painting young girls as sexualized, uncaring, insensitive and dim-witted buffoons. I am appalled at some of the slogans being marketed towards young women. Below are just a few that turned my WTF meter to 11.

2015-05-15-1431671242-7471944-killscreativity.jpg

So, either you can be creative or you can be in love. Really? Turn on the radio, read a poem, watch a movie and it is clearly evident that love can actually propel creativity to new heights. Seriously — what does this mean?

2015-05-15-1431671290-2468336-actuallyreallysmart.jpg

The subtext being, “But you wouldn’t know that by how I dress.” I guess smart girls can’t wear crop tops. Sorry, ladies who express their personalities through fashion — if you want to be taken seriously, you better don a muumuu.

2015-05-15-1431671325-3344039-troublemaker.jpg

This cute script says “Trouble Maker.” Why should young girls ever consider being a troublemaker, let alone advertise it? This is a clear play on teenagers’ need for acceptance and feeling like if they’re the “bad girl,” they’ll be respected or popular.

2015-05-15-1431671364-4643114-risque.jpg

Risqué: adjective. “Slightly indecent or liable to shock, especially by being sexually suggestive.” Because that’s a message that should be marketed to young women.

2015-05-15-1431671410-5846034-gross.jpg

This one confounds me. Is the wearer saying she’s gross, or that the person reading it is gross? I know this is supposed to be cute or something, but I just don’t get it.

2015-05-15-1431671450-8833417-fancylittlenumber.jpg

I believe the defense of this shirt is that the clothing itself is the fancy little number — like the new little black dress or something. But come on. Is anyone going to look at, or buy, the shirt with that intention? Absolutely not.

2015-05-15-1431671507-1712780-ionlydidittogetlikes.jpg

“Likes” = love. False love. Ladies should not be told, even inadvertently, that doing things for “likes” is a worthy reason to do things.

2015-05-15-1431671546-7668534-dontwantfeelingswantnewclothes.jpg

Our teenage years are full of hormone surges and complicated feelings that no amount of shopping can — or should — replace.

2015-05-15-1431671582-3563327-kissmeidareyou.jpg

Sexualization and aggression all wrapped up in one black shirt. That’s exactly what I’d want my 15-year-old telling the world.

2015-05-15-1431671626-3045658-feedmetellmepretty.jpg

Evidently, the way to a teenager’s heart is with a burger and a compliment on her exterior beauty. No need to tell her she’s smart or creative or inspirational. Nope. Just “pretty” with a side of fries will do.

2015-05-15-1431671685-7172684-noonecares.jpg

The pièce de resistance. This was my mantra through my angsty teen years when all I wanted was for someone to tell me they did care about me. Now, young women can just wear this shirt to divert everyone’s attention from the fact they really need someone to listen to them.

I understand these shirts are meant to be cute and trendy, ironic and funny, but they just make me sad that my daughter is growing up in a society where young women’s insecurities are being preyed upon for the all mighty dollar. It’s just wrong and unconscionable and flat-out disturbing. Shame on you, Forever21.

Bill Cosby Show Disrupted By 30 Protesters Wearing “We Believe The Women” Shirts

Amid jarring accusations of sexual assault by over two dozen women, Bill Cosby saw his stand-up comedy show in Hamilton, Ontario Friday night (January 9) become ground zero for protest.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 30 women stood in unison, slipping off their coats to reveal T-shirts donning the words “We Believe the Women.” Ironically, Cosby tipped his hats to protesters who braved the cold temperatures outside of Hamilton Place theater to “say what they believed in.”

Some of the women blew whistles, while others reiterated the message scribed on their shirts in loud chants as police and security rushed to the scene. Cosby remained calm and can be heard saying, “Stop, stop, let them, let them, stop… let them have their say,” to authorities.

Fans spewed contrary thoughts, supporting the legendary comedian with chants of “We believe the men,” and “We love you Bill.”

The disruption took place during the last of Cosby’s three-show run in Canada. Per usual, cell phone cameras caught the hoopla. See footage below.

NorCal High School Now Allowed To Wear “I Can’t Breathe” Shirts During Basketball Tournament

The NorCal High School that saw its players banned from an invitational basketball tournament for their “I Can’t Breathe” shirts is now letting freedom ring as First Amendment rights have been reinstated.

Via MSN:

A California school district on Monday reversed a basketball tournament ban on T-shirts reading “I Can’t Breathe” and said it would allow high school players to wear the shirts during warm-ups as long as they do not cause problems, lawyers said.

With backing from school officials, the athletic director at Fort Bragg High School, previously told the boys and girls teams from Mendocino High School they could not play in the three-day event if they wore the shirts inspired by the last words of a New York man who died after an officer put him in a chokehold.

Karen Boyd, a First Amendment lawyer who represents one of the players, said the reversal by the Fort Bragg School District came just moments before she intended to file a federal court motion arguing that barring the shirts violated the free speech rights of student athletes.

The agreement will stand as long as the shirts do not cause any serious problems at the tournament. It also allows spectators to wear the shirts, which several did as the tournament got underway Monday at Fort Bragg High School, Boyd said.

“This is always my preference, if we can get things worked out without a lot of court stuff,” she said.

School district lawyer Patrick Wilson said Fort Bragg officials wanted to avoid the cost of a legal battle but remained concerned the shirts could cause a disruption in the community that’s still mourning the death of a sheriff’s deputy killed in the line of duty in March.

“The concern is, you are in a packed auditorium, this is a polarizing issue and it’s about something that happened in New York,” Wilson said. “I think it’s fine for people to protest about it, but emotions are still raw in that area.”

The Mendocino boys team played its first game in the tournament on Monday morning after all but one of the players agreed to forego the shirts. It still has two more games scheduled. Too few members of the girls team accepted the condition and another high school was invited to take their place, Boyd said.

Liberty and justice for almost everyone.
