Gemma Keyes is an ordinary, unexceptional young woman with a lackluster life until an overheard conversation ends her budding career—and her loyalty to an old friend puts her very existence in jeopardy. As the truth emerges, Gemma discovers—the hard way—that invisibility comes with its own set of problems . My name is Gemma Keyes. Other than my name, I am utterly forgettable—so those who never paid much attention to me in the first place haven't exactly noticed that I've disappeared . Vanished. Oh, it's much more complicated than it sounds. And let me tell you, the adjustment is difficult. I should tell you about Dr. Samuel Bickel, world-renowned nanophysicist. We used to work together, but I'll be candid with you: He's supposed to be dead . Well, he's not . (Imagine my surprise.) Instead of the proverbial "six feet under," he's subsisting in an abandoned devolution cavern beneath the old Manzano Weapons Storage Facility on Kirtland Air Force Base here in Albuquerque. "I need to show you what I'm protecting here, Gemma," he insisted. I stared into the clear glass case. I could hear . . . humming, clicking, buzzing. A faint haze inside the box shifted. Dissolved. Came back together. It reminded me of how mercury, when released on a plate, will flow and form new shapes. Only this, this thing was "flowing and forming" in midair . "Do you see them?" Dr. Bickel asked. "Them?" I was confused. My mouth opened to a stunned "o" as the silver haze dissolved into blue letters. H   E   L   L   O Dr. Bickel hadn't pressed any buttons. Hadn't said anything. Hadn't gestured. He grinned. "Ah. They've noticed you. They know they haven't seen you before." Papa John’s Founder & CEO Steps Down After NFL Comments

John Schnatter, the founder and CEO of pizza chain Papa John’s, is stepping down as CEO after making remarks that the peaceful protests of the National Anthem in the NFL hurt sales. Schnatter will remain chairman of the company as leadership is shifted to an executive within the organization.

CNBC reports:

Papa John’s says its founder John Schnatter will step down as CEO next month, about two months after he publicly criticized the NFL leadership over national anthem protests by football players.

The company said Thursday that Schnatter remains chairman but be replaced as chief executive by Chief Operating Officer Steve Ritchie on Jan. 1.

Schnatter had blamed slowing sales growth on the outcry surrounding NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. Papa John’s International Inc. is an NFL sponsor and advertiser.

White supremacists and others praised Schantter for his comments regarding the NFL made during a Nov. 1 conference call, which the company apologized for two weeks later. Pizza brand competitors, perhaps sensing blood in the water, took to social media to mock Papa John’s and the stance taken by Schnatter in the process.

The company has not confirmed if Schnatter’s comments were the reason for his stepping down.

4 Steps To A Younger-Looking Neck

Ah, the dreaded turkey neck. It’s the bane of many middle-agers’ existences — so much so that it even prompted the title of author Nora Ephron’s famous book, “I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts On Being A Woman.” Her opening words were, “I feel bad about my neck. Truly, I do. If you saw my neck, you might feel bad about it too.”

And it seems Ephron was in good company. Many of our readers chimed in and named their neck as one of the main body parts that betray their age — a little too quickly.

We can’t exactly turn back the clock — but here are some tips to help you improve and at least make peace with your neck.

1. Watch your posture.

While we’re busy worrying about wrinkled, crepey, skin, we tend to forget that poor posture also makes us look older. So whether you’re paying for a lifetime of slouching or are hunched over your computer all day, it’s important to do stretches and exercises to get your neck back to a straight, healthy position.

According to the Arthritis Foundation, our poor necks hold the equivalent of an eight-pound bowling ball in weight and, with age, conditions like arthritis can cause neck pain and stiffness.

They recommend doing a combination of stretching and resistance exercises. You can get more information on exercises here.

2. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, up to 90 percent of visible changes to your skin are caused by sun damage. That includes things like age spots and wrinkles that give away your age. We tend to neglect our necks when it comes to sun protection, choosing to slather SPF on our faces and wear hats, hoping the shade will protect our necks. Not so.

Take an extra 10 seconds and make sure you apply a sunscreen to your neck. It can be the same one you use on your face, though our necks tend to be drier, so you can use a richer formulation. The Skin Cancer Foundation says you should be using at least a nickel-sized dollop.

3. Draw attention away.

For some people, an aging neck isn’t just about the appearance of your skin. As you get older, you might notice the vertical cords in your neck becoming more pronounced. Or due to a few added pounds you might notice a double-chin.

There’s no quick fix. In which case, the best bet is to alter your wardrobe to draw attention away from your neck and to your assets.

Now is the time to go ahead and wear that busy-patterned top that’s been hanging in your closet. Or that top with the ruffles that draw the eyes down. Or even a long, layered, eye-catching necklace. We’d steer clear or short necklaces and chokers. Work with what you’ve got.

4. Feed your skin.

Boost collagen production from the inside. As we get older, the collagen in our skin breaks down — that’s the protein that gives our skin its elasticity and firmness. While there are dozens of topical creams you can moisturize with, changes to the diet may help with collagen production inside the body. Vitamin C helps fight off oxidative stress and damage to our cells and is vital to collagen production. Colorful foods, like citrus fruits, bright bell peppers, tomatoes and berries, are rich in the vitamin.

Healthy fats like olive oil, oily fish like salmon and avocados are also good for helping to keep your skin hydrated and also to help reduce inflammation. Omega-3 fatty acids help to boost oil production in the skin and have been shown to help fight off collagen damage.

Latin America Steps Up Support for Local Fashion Weeks

MANAGUA, Nicaragua — Camila Ortega, the daughter of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, launched Nicaragua Disena in 2011 to help promote the country’s poor yet talented emerging designers. But what started as a pet project has become a growing event drawing 12,000 people, providing regional designers with a promotion platform and attracting international design schools.
The event’s popularity (the government was said to invest $ 100,000 in the 2015 edition that closed last weekend) comes as other fashion weeks are mushrooming in Central America, with Panama and Costa Rica hosting large events under the Mercedes-Benz banner and El Salvador and Guatemala developing their own iterations.
“We want to bring this to a higher level and become the leading design platform in Central America,” said Ortega, 27. As Nicaragua Design director, Ortega has a modeling hobby and walked several runways in a 30-piece lineup, including local designers Shantall Lacayo and Erick Bendana, as well as Argentina’s Paula Tierra and Venezuela’s Carmela Osorio.
While the event will remain a fashion design platform, it will also seek to promote talent in other areas, including interior design, film, craftsmanship and arts, Ortega said. This year there were 88 designers and 75 stands, compared with 75 and 50, respectively, in 2014.

Cate Blanchett Steps Out in a New, Bold Look for the Red Carpet

cate blanchett

Cate Blanchett has a sense of grace and style on the red carpet that is all her own—it’s just as likely to see her wear a classically elegant Armani Privé dress as it is to see her in a fashion-forward look by Céline. Earlier tonight, the Australian beauty stepped out at the New York Film Festival for the premiere of her latest film, Carol, wearing a designer few will recognize. And yet Yacine Aouadi stole the spotlight with the demi-couture ensemble he created for Blanchett.

“She is a young designer’s dream,” says Aouadi. “The personification of grace, the embodiment of elegance and modernity.” The 35-year-old designer worked at Balmain under Christophe Decarnin and Olivier Rousteing before establishing his own line at couture last July. The dress, a black wool frock embellished with tonal jet petals, features a tulle neckline and sleeves with a distinctive personal, handwrought touch. “The dress actually features some of my personal tattoos,” he says. “I thought, How do you make couture tattoos?” The resulting inky, petaled print certainly makes for a romantic counterpoint to the highly dramatic silhouette. With his first, big celebrity fashion moment under his belt, clearly Aouadi is already making his mark.

5 Steps to Take If Your Ex Is Limiting Access to Your Child

2015-09-29-1443519165-4535655-childchair.jpg

There are two situations close to me where a parent is limiting the other parent’s access to a child. One set of parents is American, and the other is European – so it happens everywhere. In both instances, the parents doing the limiting are the mothers. But we all know that dads do it, too.

Everyone is losing. Including me, because these moms and dads are in my family, and it’s painful to watch.

The moms are so afraid of loss that they’re using power as a band-aid for their fear. The dads feel that their time with their child is being stolen from them, and the pain colors everything else in life. And the children are learning that the purpose of life is to control people and conditions in order to be all right and avoid pain.

The moms say that it’s in the child’s best interest. And they’re keeping lists of why that’s true. And there’s plenty of evidence to prove it. That’s because our experience of life is the result of what we believe, so it always proves us right.

This leaves the dads with few options. They can get a lawyer and go to war, but no one wins that war.

Here are some possibilities that might help.

Stop saying life isn’t fair.
If we walk around saying that life isn’t fair, we’ll constantly find the evidence to prove us right – and the result will be more pain. If we believe that our happiness and our unhappiness depends on whether someone does something good or bad to us, we’re giving them way too much power. Nothing has the power to affect us until we decide what to believe about it and what our response should be.

So be super careful in what you decide to believe. And practice accepting what people do without wishing for something else, because that wishing will keep you in a state of dis-ease.

Stop believing you’re a victim.
If someone is treating us badly, we have the right to hold that person accountable and to take action to stop the abuse. But we hinder ourselves by going the next step of saying: “You hurt me. You betrayed me. My life is miserable because of you. How could you do this? I’ll never get over it.” In that case, we’re choosing to be a victim and we’ll suffer.

You don’t need people to behave a certain way in order to feel all right. So decide to be unaffected by other people’s words and actions. It will help to focus on what’s going well and what already makes you feel good.

Choose an attitude that works for you.
I like to say: “I created this mess, and I can un-create it.” It gives me back my confidence.

When people don’t keep their agreements, we can accuse them, blame them and punish them, or we can release them. But whatever we do with them is less important than what we do with ourselves. When people break agreements, what we should not do is let it become our personal hell.

Believing is receiving. If we expect the worst, we’ll get it – and then we’ll use it as evidence that we’re right. But we can change our mind. By directing our thoughts on purpose, our attitude will change, which will also change our actions, and that will change our experience.

We can’t draw the best from people if we’re focusing on their weaknesses and making them wrong. So our first step is to accept that everyone really is doing the best they can with what they have to work with.

And being a good example to our children means being bigger than conditions and broken agreements – and supporting people in spite of reasons to not.

So decide that you’ll give your attention to things that you can do something about. And then acknowledge that the only thing you can do something about is your attitude.

Forgive.
The reason to forgive people is because we deserve it. Otherwise, we end up with too much pain.

Revenge won’t work. Confucius said: “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.” Someone else said: “Revenge is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die.” So don’t go there.

Self-righteous forgiveness won’t work either. Saying, “I’ll benevolently forgive you for how you’ve mistreated me,” is still making the other person wrong. And you’ll keep demanding accountability.

Conditional forgiveness won’t work either. Saying, “I’ll forgive you if you promise never to do it again,” is an attempt to manipulate the other person. Plus it reveals your buttons, by telling people what you’re afraid they’ll do, which will draw it to you.

Real forgiveness means letting people off the hook forever, even if they do it again. Which is really tough to do, if they’re doing it right now.

So the only real way to forgive is to stop making people wrong. First, check whether being right is a self-esteem issue for you. Do you need others to be wrong so that you can feel all right? If so, take care of that – take care of you.

Then stop making people wrong because everyone is right from his or her standpoint. That means no one is wrong. So you and your ex are both right.

Here’s what will give you some relief. You’re not obligated to do anything that doesn’t make you feel good. And that includes interacting with people who’ve demonstrated that they’re willing to mistreat people. If people treat you in a way that is hurtful, don’t interact with them anymore.

It will help to remember that people hurt other people because they hurt. So stay calm and kind. You can say Yes to the person while saying No to his or her actions.

The purpose of forgiveness is to make your life better. So love yourself enough to set yourself free – and love yourself enough to set everyone else free. By forgiving people and accepting them as they are, you’ll begin drawing only supportive people into your life.

Teach your child to love.
Children who grow up in a parental warzone – no matter how much the parents try to keep them out of it – take it all inside. If we make our exes wrong, our children will see it as a negative message about themselves. They’ll develop a belief that they’re not worthy, and then they’ll spend the rest of their lives trying to unlearn it.

And worrying won’t help. It’s not possible to worry about our kids and love them at the same time because worry is fear-based and love is not. Instead of worrying, we need to keep affirming their innate goodness and their abilities. That way, they constantly receive a message of feeling loved, even from a distance.

The only way we can teach our children to love is to demonstrate it. And we can’t demonstrate it when we’re acting from fear or anger. We demonstrate love best by loving ourselves and by loving life, even when it’s messy. That means staying loving even when we’re faced with the opposite.

When your children see you stay calm, kind, even happy, when life is difficult and relationships are stressed, they’ll learn that life is not threatening. And they’ll be more likely to appreciate life and other people.

It’s the best gift you can give your children, even if you don’t see them as much as you want. Faith in life as a “best friend,” believing that life is good and that “I’m worthy and I deserve the best.”

Like I said, it’s happening in my family, and it’s painful to watch. So I’m also working on these 5 steps. If you’re living the same challenge, hang in there. You’re not alone.

Shhh! New Orleans takes steps to turn down the music

The All For One brass band performs in a second-line parade marking the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on St. Claude Avenue in New OrleansIn New Orleans, a city synonymous with music and raucous revelry, government officials are launching a public health campaign aimed at turning down the volume. The city this week announced the start of "Sound Check," the latest attempt to address residents' complaints about excessive noise and 60-year-old sound standards city attorneys say are unenforceable. Health inspectors will monitor decibel levels in the French Quarter and trendy Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, where noise has long been an issue of contention between residents and music venues that operate close to homes.

5 Steps to a Healthy Gay Vacation

The ferry docks in Provincetown. It’s Ptown’s annual Bear Week. The busiest week of this gay tourist town’s brief summer season. Hundreds of gay men disembark from the boat. Hurrying to enjoy the festive anything-goes ambiance with the thousands of men already there. Cape Cod is coming completely alive once again.

This magical moment — repeated at gay venues across the country — is liberating. Everyone is here for fun: Good food. Reconnecting with friends. Making new ones. Dancing and drinks. And cruising. If ever there’s a time when basic human instinct overrides cool-headed, rational thought — this is it. Even guys like me, who have lived in gay ghettos, can be overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of gay men, and the atmosphere we create.

From personal experience, I know how easy it is to let caution fall by the wayside. HIV is a throw of the dice — you can have unprotected sex once, or a 1,000 times and not contract HIV or an STD. Don’t assume that you are immune though, as I unfortunately did.

This year, the same way many of us use a checklist for travel packing, let’s include a pre-vacation sexual health checklist.

Check off each item one-by-one and have an even better, more carefree time than you ever envisioned.

Vacationing in gay venues. How amazing to be validated for being gay! Rubbing up against other gay men on the dance floor — perhaps with a few drinks in hand to reduce inhibitions. Culminating in an evening that may end with one or more men.

The next morning as you try to remember, a cloud of worry begins to envelop you.

But this year, unlike last year, you were prepared. And you smile.

….

Here is the checklist:

1. Testing. Get tested for HIV and all STDs before leaving on vacation.

HIV. Remember that a negative result is not a green light to sero-sort (select others with the same HIV-status) for condom-free sex — 80% of all new HIV infections among gay men in the UK are among guys whose last test was negative or those that didn’t know their status at all (see page 25).

STDs. Early detection of common STDs: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Syphilis are easily treated. Get tested (and if necessary follow through with medication).

Hepatitis C. Hepatitis C is now known to be sexually transmitted. HIV+ guys are at the highest risk. However, new studies suggest HIV- guys are also at risk. Be sure to get tested once a year; the new treatments are close to 100% effective.

2. PrEP and/or Condoms. HIV is transmitted primarily through unprotected anal sex. Only 5% of men world-wide use condoms and less than 50% of gay men do. For those that use condoms — bring your favorite condoms and lube — for those that don’t, there is a new option: PrEP.

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is one pill a day that works to essentially block the virus from replicating if you are exposed. Go to PrEP Facts (Facebook) and read the stories of the men who have been freed from fear of contracting HIV by getting educated and by being med-compliant on PrEP. Important: you can’t just go to your doctor and start taking PrEP the same day. Navigating the PrEP process can be challenging, and once you qualify, you need to be on PrEP for 7 days before having condom-free sex. Despite what you may have heard about PrEP, clinical trials have shown PrEP to be over 90% effective when taken daily.

3. Vaccinations.

Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B. These vaccines have been available for over a decade. And if your Hep B vaccination is over 10 years old — get tested to make sure you are still protected. These vaccines are inexpensive and generally covered by insurance.

Meningitis . Outbreaks of meningitis although infrequent do occur. The most recent occurrence was Chicago Gay Pride 2015. Talk with your doctor about which vaccine is appropriate for you. Since this vaccine is not recommended by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) for anyone over college age, your doctor may be reluctant to prescribe it. Waiting for an outbreak to occur may put you at an unnecessary risk. The vaccine is two shots, and they are age-specific.

4. Pap Smear. Anyone who has anal sex should get a yearly pap smear to screen for anal cancer. This applies particularly to HIV+ men. Anal cancer is dangerous, but the earlier it is caught, the less traumatic the treatment. I almost lost a friend who ignored symptoms for over a year. The Human Papillomavirus Virus (HPV) vaccine will protect against the most common form of anal cancer. The CDC currently does not recommend this vaccine for anyone over college age. If your insurance will not cover it, the cost is $ 1,000. Even at that expense though, the cost may be justified by greater peace of mind.

5. Lastly, medications and condoms. Plan for a few extra days of supplies. You never know what can come up with travel delays and perhaps an opportunity to stay longer.
….

Two weeks after you return home, get tested again — just to be sure.

2 Steps to Choose a Trendy, Fun Hair Color

I am really loving the trendy and fun hair colors I am seeing all over the place these days. Have you been considering taking the plunge and coloring your tresses with a funky and fun color like pink, grey, purple, blue, orange or green? How do you know which of the fun colors and which intensity of the colors work best with you?

Choosing a fun hair color that doesn’t overpower you is a key ingredient to joining in on the fun hair color trend while giving off your best. If you choose a fun hair color that overpowers you, you could look dull, worn, outdated, odd, unbalanced, and even older.

Here are 2 steps to choose a trendy and fun hair color that works with you to give off a vibrant, healthy, balanced and potentially more youthful glow.

1. Choose hair colors that align with your skin undertone: Hair colors are grouped by undertone in hair color swatch books that you find at hair salons — choose a hair color that matches your skin undertone. If you are unable to do a formal undertone analysis with a trained color analysis professional, ask your hair colorist if he/she can determine by looking at you if you have a cool, warm or a neutral undertone.

For instance, if you have a cool undertone you will want to avoid orange, red, yellow, warm pinks, warm blues and warm green colors in your hair. If you have a warm undertone, you will want to avoid cool pinks, cool blues, most violets, cool grey and cool green colors in your hair.

2. Choose hair colors and intensities that align with your seasonal color palette: The best way to do this is by having a color analysis consultation and/or working with a hair colorist who has significant training and experience identifying what your most optimal hair colors are.

Before taking the fun hair color plunge, I also advise thinking through whether an all-over solid fun color look versus more subtle highlights or subtle painting in of the hair color works best with you and your lifestyle.

To show you a few picture examples of the steps above, I recruited a few of my colleagues at Studio Fontana in Toronto, Canada to participate in this blog.

Here is Cheryl Gushue.
She has a warm undertone and her best colors fall within the warm seasonal color palette (flow between Autumn and Spring seasons).

Cheryl’s optimal, more natural hair color(s) include: warm browns and golden blonde.
Her optimal fun hair colors include warm, medium value/intensity colors such as: deep coral, warm navy, warm purple, light orange. Cheryl should avoid cool, overly deep and overly light hair colors.

Here is Katie Fontana.
She has a cool undertone and her best colors fall within the cool seasonal color palette (flow between Winter and Summer seasons).

Katie’s optimal, more natural hair color(s) include: cool deep brown or blue-black.
Her optimal fun hair colors include cool medium intensity colors such as: charcoal gray, deep raspberry, red violet, purple magenta, blue plum, burgundy, hunter green. Katie should avoid warm (like orange), overly intense and overly soft hair colors .

Here is Melissa.
She has a neutral undertone (leaning warm) and her best colors fall within the muted seasonal color palette (flow between Autumn and Summer seasons).

Melissa’s optimal, more natural hair color(s) include: soft, muted browns.
Her optimal fun hair colors include softer colors such as: soft gray, soft teal green, celery, soft navy blues, rose beige, soft burgundy, grape. Melissa should avoid bright, high intensity hair colors.

Here is Ashley.
She has a neutral undertone (leaning cool) and her best colors fall within the Light seasonal color palette (flow between Summer and Spring seasons).

OK, so if I signed up my colleagues to do this, I must be willing to do it too!…
Here is Carol (me).
I have a cool undertone and my best colors fall within the True Summer seasonal color palette.

My optimal, more natural hair colors include: ash browns or ash blonde.
My optimal fun hair colors include toned colors such as: most grays, pink ash, rose, raspberry, lavender, powder blue, steel blue, smokey green. I should avoid high intensity, tints, shades and warm (like orange) hair colors.

Now you have 2 steps with a few examples to help you reveal which trendy and fun hair colors will work with you to give off your best.

You can either wear your hair color or have your hair color wear you. My choice is always for you to wear your hair color so we see the best and most vibrant you.

I hope this blog post inspires you to wear your authenticity!

How Smart Are You With Money? 7 Steps To Get Your Finances In Order

More than one third of adults admit they spend more than they can afford, and it’s been estimated that 70 percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. Are you one of them?

“You cannot be in denial about finances,” Dr. Phil says. “It doesn’t matter what you think you deserve, what you think you need, even, and certainly doesn’t matter what you want or desire. When you’re dealing with finances, you’ve got to deal with reality.”

If you worry about surviving tough financial times, take these quizzes to evaluate your spending habits. Then, consider these seven steps to get your finances in order so you don’t find yourself broke.*

Are You a Financial Train Wreck?
Answer true or false to the following statements:

  • I will neglect bills to make an impulse or luxury purchase.

  • I will make a purchase based on my perceived need, desire, or what I feel I deserve, instead of what I can afford.

  • I buy items out of guilt for my children, whether or not I can afford them.

  • I buy name-brand goods because of the emotional feeling.

  • I sometimes finance toys for myself — boats, RVs, four-wheelers — or vacations.

  • I use borrowed money, such as credit cards, to make payments on items I have already financed.

  • I charge basic living expenses: mortgage, car note, student loan, tax bill.

  • I buy things based on monthly payments instead of actual cost.

  • I lack a budget or plan based on my financial reality, and lie to myself or spouse about expenditures.

  • When I’m stressed out, anxious or celebrating, I spend money I don’t have.

If you answered true to any of these, you have an unhealthy spending habit. If you answered true to five or more, based on statistics, you are headed for serious financial troubles.

How Smart Are You With Your Money?
Answer yes or no to the following questions:

  • Are you living on borrowed money or credit cards to cover living expenses, and fail to pay off the balances at the end of the month?

  • Are you a double-income family that requires both incomes to maintain your lifestyle?

  • Will your health insurance cover you if you suffer a significant or catastrophic illness?

  • Do you have enough savings to cover your expenses in the event of a layoff or injury?

  • Do your monthly expenses exceed your stable net income?

  • Do your total housing payments, long-term debts and major fixed expenses exceed 60 percent of your income?

  • Are you accruing tax debt by not making timely deposits, because you are spending more than your net income?

If you answered yes to more than three of these questions, it is time to reevaluate your spending habits. Don’t live in fiction — know now and make the corrections so you don’t have a money crisis.

7 Steps To Get Your Finances In Order
1. Always set aside at least 10 percent of your income for savings and investing, using the payroll deduction method.
2. Always contribute the maximum amount of money to employer-sponsored pension plans, in order to get the maximum contribution from your employer every year.
3. Always use manufacturer’s and retailer’s coupons when possible, and send in for rebates.
4. Always look over sale flyers and comparison shop before spending money, especially on food.
5. Always comparison shop motor vehicle and household insurance policies when they come up for renewal.
6. Always pay credit and charge card purchases in full when the statement arrives, and never pay interest charges or penalty fees of any type.
7. Always keep banking and other receipts, even for smaller purchases, and note the details of the purchase on the receipt.

35 Items In Your Wardrobe is All You Need: 7 Steps

My interpretation of a “minimalist wardrobe” was recently challenged when my girlfriend Jenn Mapp told me about her 35 items. I have known her for years (pre toddler and infant, pre house), and have always thought of her as a “fashionista” in the best sense of the word. I rarely saw her wear the same outfit twice, she always looked fabulous, and she accessorizes better than anyone else. Yet, she decided to simplify her closet (thus her life), and pare it down to 35 items. And she loves the result – not just in her closet. Intrigued? Read on… After all, we all know of Steve Jobs’ jeans and black turtleneck uniform. President Obama has discussed owning shirts of just a few colors, to simplify his mornings. And most business men in effect have their own uniform (suit and shirt). Perhaps they are on to something… I may just have to try this myself…

• AP: What made you decide to reduce your wardrobe to 35 items?

• JM: For most of life shopping was my favorite pastime. Now I have a toddler and an infant, a full time job and own a small (but charming!) house. This translates to no time, minimal storage and considerably less discretionary income. Earlier this spring, while searching Pinterest for closet organization tips, I discovered several boards dedicated to the idea of a minimalist wardrobe. The notion of turning my massive, unmanageable closet into a curated collection of seasonal apparel just felt right. Within a few days I ruthlessly edited my clothes down to 35 items and consigned, donated or stored the rest. My life has improved immeasurably.

2015-06-20-1434826148-2861078-Outfit519.jpg

• AP: What are your 35 items? Does this include accessories, shoes, lingerie – everything?

• JM: I define “35 items” as the apparel hanging in my closet — business casual separates worn mostly to work. My 35 items do not include accessories because these are my signature outfit makers and without them this would not be a plausible fashion experiment – for me. Workout clothes, lingerie and sleep items do not count. However, my entire fashion collection now fits in one side of an Ikea Pax wardrobe. This makes me very proud.

• AP: How has your life changed since undergoing this fashion experiment?

• JM: In so many ways! Obviously I’ve saved money and time but I’m also happier and more present. You don’t realize how much energy it takes to manage possessions. Most tangibly, my fashion experiment motivated me to start a blog. I assumed #jennmapp would be a fashion blog cataloging multiple outfits created from 35 items but I’ve found that I am more inspired by the psychology of the process. Curbing the impulse to shop parallels instinctive behavior in every aspect of my life. My 3 year old son AJ has emerged as a noteworthy muse.

• AP: Any tips on how others could reduce their wardrobes?

• JM: Sure, how about a random numbered list? The internet loves a list.

1. Purchase or borrow an inexpensive rolling rack.

2. Assemble your entire wardrobe in one place.

3. Automatically move formal or cocktail attire, out of season clothes, ill-fitting or damaged items to the rolling rack.

4. Consider every item that remains. These will make up your current season collection. If you love it, you will know in one second – leave it in your closet. If you experience any hesitation towards an item, put it on the rolling rack.

5. Ruthlessly edit until you are down to a collection that feels right. You will need an adequate assortment of tops, bottoms and outwear. Consider your lifestyle. Depending on the size of your wardrobe, you may require several rounds of edits.

6. Store, repair, consign or donate the rest. Just do it.

7. Repeat every three – four months, filling in gaps as needed.

As I listen to Jenn in awe, she concludes: “You only think you need hundreds of items. You don’t! I guarantee you only wear 30 – 50 pieces as it is. Closet reduction is an excellent exercise in defining your value system. If you read this and are inspired to act, you are ready. Take the plunge. If the idea doesn’t resonate at all or seems inconceivable, well someone has to keep the economy afloat, right?”

Right!

Pregnant Kim Kardashian Steps Out With A Plunging Neckline

Kim Kardashian doesn’t let something like pregnancy interfere with her personal style.

The 34-year-old reality star, who just revealed she’s expecting a baby boy with husband Kanye West, made quite the statement as she arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York on Monday.

7 Steps To A Better Financial Future After Divorce

steps

You may be inching closer to finalizing your divorce but the work of securing your financial future is just beginning.

We recently asked financial experts what they think all divorcés need to do to protect themselves financially after a split. See what they had to say below.

1. Create a budget.
The first step toward financial independence is balancing your income with your expenses, said certified divorce financial analyst Eva Sachs. Sit down and figure out how much money is coming in (through work, alimony and/or child support) and then assess how much of that is being spent on living expenses.

“Think of it as a spending plan rather than a budget,” she said. “Knowing where your money goes is key, especially after divorce. There will be many new expenses you might not have thought about prior to your divorce; this is a critical time to refrain from spending money you don’t have.”

2. Revise your beneficiary designations.
Somewhere at the top of your to-do list should be updating the beneficiary on your life insurance and retirement accounts, said Emily McBurney, an attorney and qualified domestic relations orders (QDRO) expert.

“Review all of your accounts and insurance policies and change the beneficiaries. A divorce does not automatically terminate your former spouse’s rights to be the beneficiary on your retirement plans, bank accounts, and life insurance policies –- even though your divorce decree might say that your former spouse has waived all rights to the benefits,” she said. “You will need to formally submit a change of beneficiary form to each financial institution. Otherwise, the benefit will be paid to whoever is listed on their forms at the time of your death — regardless of your divorce.”

3. Revise your will, too.
While you’re updating your beneficiary designations, don’t forget to revise your will, said certified divorce financial analyst Donna Cheswick.

“Meet with an estate planning attorney to discuss your state’s laws regarding possible updates to your will, power of attorney and advanced directives,” she advised. “You want to be sure that your former spouse is no longer entitled to any distribution in the event of your death. And if your settlement agreement requires one party to maintain life insurance on the other, then there needs to be a method in place to be sure this is actually occurring. Just because the former spouse says they will do something, doesn’t mean that they are following through.”

4. Create an emergency fund.
When you were married, you knew you could rely on your spouse if you lost your job, faced a medical emergency or had an unplanned home expense. If something unexpected happens now, you’re effectively going it alone. To help protect yourself, Sachs recommends creating an emergency fund that you continue adding to whenever you have the chance.

“An emergency fund should equal three to six months of your living expenses,” she said. “If you can swing it, I recommend six months because you’re now single and need an even bigger cushion if you are not able to work or an emergency occurs.”

5. Review your divorce documents and make sure assets have been transferred.
The divorce may be finalized but your work isn’t really complete until you’ve ensured the assets awarded in the settlement have been distributed, said Cheswick.

“I can’t tell you the number of people who will contact me months (and unfortunately even years) after their divorce is finalized and there are still outstanding items which have not been resolved,” she said. “Remember that the agreement is a legally binding contract that you both signed and agreed to uphold. If one party is failing to comply with the terms of the contract then the other party has every right to take steps to ensure their compliance including going back to court to have the agreement enforced.”

6. Seek professional advice.
While it may pain you to take on yet another financial expense during or after your divorce, consulting with a divorce financial professional — a certified divorce financial planner, for instance — can help you sort through the complexities of your divorce and set you on the right path for an independent future, McBurney said.

“Most financial mistakes that people make during and after divorce could easily have been avoided if they had sought professional assistance,” she said. “Financial planners can help you figure out how to live within your new financial realities post-divorce and develop strategies for building back your financial security. And tax advisors and CPAs can help you avoid making expensive (and very common!) tax mistakes (related to things like asset transfers, retirement, spousal and child support).”

7. Keep saving for retirement.
Now that the divorce process is almost finalized, Sachs suggests you look to your future and start to maximize your retirement savings.

“Don’t let divorce stop you from planning for your future,” she said, “Investing in your 401K plan will allow you to save for retirement. You can begin by saving a small amount each week and then let it build slowly or make payroll contributions that match your employer contributions. Don’t stop thinking of the future!”

5 Steps That Will Make You Love Online Dating Over 50

When I first started dating in my mid 40s, I had no clue what to do when it came to navigating the world of online dating sites.

I look back and wince at how often I allowed men to make me their email pal or phone pal. The worst part is, I was thrilled by it. You see, I figured they picked me out of every other woman to speak with. So in return, it was my duty to let them yak for hours about themselves and their days.

Night after night, I’d think I was doing the right thing. But guess what … No date ever came out of a single one of those nighttime talkers.

I had to learn the hard way how to set boundaries and move interesting men through the process to get first and second dates with them. I don’t want you to have to learn the hard way. Take the tips in these five steps to move from, “Oh, he looks cute,” to “Yes, I’d like to go out with you again!”

Step 1: Don’t choose ‘the one’ based on what you see online.

Some men look great on paper, don’t they? Then you meet them in person and you think, “What happened to the one I thought was so great online? Where is that guy?”

This happens because you paint a picture in your mind of who someone might be based on a couple of paragraphs and a small profile picture. More than likely, he isn’t that person and you’ve set yourself up for being disappointed when he’s not who you thought he was.

Try and leave out any expectations and pictures of who you think a man might be until you’ve actually met him.

Step 2: Making contact.

I usually recommend you let men contact you. I always found it fizzled when I was the first to get the ball rolling.

Now that being said, I know of two very good relationships where the woman contacted the man first.

It’s worth a try if you are really interested in a man, but make sure you aren’t attached to whether or not he writes you back.

Keep emails to a maximum of three to five each between you. Beyond that, you are becoming his pen pal. You really want to take it to next step fairly quickly.

Step 3: Using the phone to your advantage.

I recommend limiting phone conversations to one to three at the most. Limiting the number of calls keeps you from endless nights on the phone that go nowhere.

This gives you the opportunity to screen a man. If you choose to meet without this step, you could be quite surprised by who shows up.

I remember a date with a guy who asked me to meet him at an ice cream shop. I thought it was a cute idea. The problem was, he had no job and no money for dating, so no ice cream!

I would have found that out if I’d spent some time on the phone with him before meeting him.

It really is worth squeezing in at least one call to see if he has any obvious deal breaker qualities so you aren’t wasting your time on the next step.

Step 4: Taking it to the first date.

So he sounds nice on the phone. Now it’s time to get off the phone and meet in person.

I like meeting for coffee or tea. A meal is great but it can be very long and you have to be at your best for at least an hour. It’s exhausting, and it leads to feeling worn down by dating.

Meeting at a coffee shop can be short and sweet and you can be out of there within half an hour or less once your beverage is done.

If the date is going well … you can take it to a meal but I do suggest limiting first dates to less than two hours. Leave some mystery and intrigue for next time.

Step 5: Getting that elusive second date.

You’ve painted a picture of him in your head, and guess what… He’s done the same thing about the woman he wants and if you don’t fit that picture, a second date is not going to be in the cards.

Try and remember, it’s not about you! It’s about him and his idea of who he wants.

Women do the same thing. Think of all the guys you have turned down because they didn’t fit your picture of Mr. Right.

Try and view every date as a way to get to know someone new and interesting. And promise me this: if he doesn’t ask you out again, don’t write, text or call him.

Move on to the next guy because your goal is to have someone who wants you in his life. When you think about it, do you really want a guy you have to push to ask you out again?

Angelina Jolie Pitt Steps Out in the Best Shoe for Summer Travel

Angelina Jolie

The Cannes Film Festival might have rejected flats but the fashion community, and everyone else, still loved the wardrobe staple. And with A-listers like Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lawrence, and Aymeline Valade sporting them everywhere from the street to the red carpet, the practical shoe is getting a decidedly fancy upgrade. Arriving at London Heathrow with son Maddox, actress Angelina Jolie cut a lean figure in a sleek all-black look. but it was her subtle nude slippers that stole the show.

While air travel is never easy or enjoyable, Jolie Pitt wears the ideal traveling ensemble in shades of black, adding contrast with a weathered Louis Vuitton keepall. The jacket is perfect for boarding passes and any trinkets belonging to the little Jolie Pitts, while the trousers keep a clean line. To fast-track your way through security, slip on streamlined skimmers like these; they’ll make your look first class in a heartbeat.

Sienna Miller Steps Out in the Summer’s Hottest Shoe

Sienna Miller

Well, now it’s official. The return of the mule is complete with actress Sienna Miller cutting a chic figure in London earlier this week. While we’ve seen Jennifer Lawrence adopt the nineties throwback favorite with her wardrobe, Miller takes the look to new heights with her sleek take on suede.

Out with husband Tom Sturridge, Miller makes the simple staple look fresh when paired with a cozy cardigan, striped tee, and cigarette jeans delicately cuffed at the hem. But the best part of Miller’s mules? The tobacco color and suede texture that tie together the ensemble for a look that’s both perfectly modern and perfectly resurgent, channeling Ali MacGraw’s Love Story character and her effortlessly chic, pulled-together style.

We swear Sienna Miller leads a completely normal life:

Put Your Best Face Forward: 3 Steps to Contouring Like the Pros

2015-03-18-1426704742-2459978-contourfaces.jpg
Face it — the art of contouring has always been one of hollywoods best kept beauty secrets. From playing up your cheekbones, to reshaping your nose, professional makeup artists have been using contouring for years. While it used to be a technique known only to celebrities, the tricks to highlighting and contouring are now common knowledge to makeup aficionados. Loved by beauty gurus and A-listers alike, contouring your face can create a truly three dimensional look by enhancing bone structure and shadowing the face.

If the nuances of highlighting and shading still mystify you, fret not. Just follow these steps I learned from Boston’s top makeup artist Tavi De La Rosa on a recent shoot I did with Eric Levin of Elevin Studios for a new project I’m working on to solve all of your contouring woes.

2015-03-18-1426703287-1914247-379796_146380582143003_112478618866533_191635_1083731188_n.jpg

Step 1: Prime Time
Dot on a primer followed by a foundation that’s one shade lighter than your skin tone. Next, apply the lightest shade in your Too Faced contour kit to the top of your cheekbones, above the bow of your mouth, under your eye area, down the bridge of your nose and in an upside-down triangle on your forehead.
2015-03-18-1426702929-8571363-WEB_CocoaContour_Composite.png
Step 2: Be Shady
When it comes to contouring, its all about being shady. Choose a shade from your contour kit that is deeper than your skin tone, and sweep it into the hollows of your cheek. Having trouble finding the perfect spot? Make a “fish” face then follow the line of the hollow in a crescent shape — be sure it’s somewhat parallel to the jaw line and reaches all the way up to your hairline. Looking for a more defined and chiseled look? Sweep a dark powder or bronzer from your contouring kit just below your cheekbones to create an illusion of more elevated cheeks. Blend upward towards the cheekbone mixing the two shades on your face to create the subtle illusion of depth.

Step 3: Get Blushed To Perfection

Finally, get blushed to perfection by adding a cream or powder blush to the apples of your cheeks in a circular motion to add volume to your face or soften the contour. For an added hint of luminosity, gently pat brightening highlighter from your contour kit onto the ridge of the cheekbones and brow bones; this helps to create a more radiant “J-lo” look. Focus on achieving a natural-looking highlight by hitting all the points where the sun would naturally kiss your face: the top of your forehead, bridge of your nose and your jawline to make it look more prominent.

*To achieve my final look Tavi used Too faced Primed and Powerless primer and Cocoa Contour Makeup Palette, Shu Uemura Eyelash curler, Dior Show Mascara and Armani foundation.

2 Steps to Avoid Your Own Kim Kardashian Blonde Horror Story

I was shocked to see that Kim Kardashian has gone back to blonde, platinum blonde this time around for that matter! Click here to link to Kim’s before and after look on People Magazine Online.

Kim’s latest hair color choice is a great example of what happens when you choose a hair color that is not aligned with your coloring: you will more often than not look dull, worn, unprofessional, outdated, odd, unbalanced and even older.

Here are 2 steps to avoid creating your own “Kim Kardashian Blonde Horror Story”:

2. Choose hair colors that align with your seasonal color palette: The best way to do this is by working with a professional trained in color analysis and/or a hair colorist who has significant training or experience identifying what your most optimal hair colors are.

By knowing whether your best colors are in the Winter, Summer, Spring or Autumn palettes and what flow of these palettes you are in, you will be in a much better position to make color choices with regards to hair, makeup, clothing and accessories that give off the best you.

The optimal hair colors between color seasons vary significantly. For example if you are a True Winter, you should avoid warm red in your hair, whereas if you are a True Autumn, warm red is recommended. My guess is Kim Kardashian is in the Deep color palette – blonde is not recommended for this palette, instead deep brown hair colors are recommended.

Before you make a new hair color choice, know your skin undertone and seasonal color palette. By making color choices that give off your best, you are allowing the world to see the authentic vibrant you and rather than looking worn or older, you will instead look more elegant, refined, and vibrant.

I hope this article inspires you to wear your authenticity!

Want a Boyfriend By Valentine’s Day? Follow These 9 Steps!

That’s right, Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it. 2014 is history. No one special to kiss under the mistletoe? If you faithfully follow these nine steps, you’ll make up for it by getting plenty of lovin’ from your new sweetheart in less than two months!

You don’t have to love Valentine’s Day to accept this challenge of manifesting love quickly.

It’s a milestone, one that you can reach! If you’re a fan of being in a loving relationship, read on.

1. Get A New Attitude

Take a cold, hard look at your attitude towards men. There’s a good chance it sucks. What I mean is, you probably spend more time thinking about what is wrong with men than what is right.

Do you find yourself thinking “All men want are young, dumb girls who don’t challenge them” or “All men are liars” or “All the good ones are taken — if he’s single, there’s something wrong with him“?

If any of those statements, or any statement like that rings true for you, guess what? Your attitude sucks. Why would any man want to be with you if you are assuming he’s defective in some way?

Really — this is important. Why would a good man want to be with someone who thinks men suck?

If your answer is, “He has to prove to me that he’s a good man and then I’ll change my attitude” guess what? You’ve got that backwards. Stop clinging to some rom-com fantasy that you can be a total bitch to some guy and he will slowly start to see that under it all you have a heart of gold and then he’ll desperately try to prove to you his love and devotion.

The truth is, if you believe that all men are dogs or whatever sucky belief you have, you will find a way to be right. Deep down you don’t want to be right, because you want to be loved, but even deeper down you want to be right! And so you will, through your energetic focus and self-sabotaging behavior, find the guys who prove you right. You’ll be right, but you’ll also be miserable!

Instead of focusing on your fears of what men are “like,” start focusing on all the good stuff you actually want to experience from and with men. The past is the past. There are lots of men out there who are loyal, kind, affectionate, smart, passionate and more — the list goes on!

If you can’t find some positive male traits and behavior to focus on, that’s on you. You’re not trying hard enough!

2. Get A New List

If you are a single adult woman who has managed to get this far in life without making “the list” of the traits of your dream man, congratulations! You now get to start from scratch, which might be easier than ditching your old one. Which is what I urge the rest of you to do.

Clarity is key, an important factor in zeroing in on what’s important so you can ignore all the crap that isn’t. The act of writing down what you do want and believing you can have it is powerful.

If you write down a bunch of dream characteristics, many of which have nothing to do with your actual relationship with this imagined person, that’s less helpful. It’s especially unhelpful when you don’t actually feel and believe that meeting this person is a possibility.

No more hoping against hope! Now is the time to believe.

Your new list is going to change everything. You’re going to start manifesting men who are ready, able and willing to provide everything on your new list.

Your new list has FIVE items on it. None of them have to do with physical appearance or occupation.

Your new list has your five core relationship needs.

Now is the time to be honest with yourself. I’m not suggesting you only have five needs, but for this to work you have to boil it down to five. Think of the elements of your dream relationship (the actual relationship – what you share between you) you need to feel fulfilled.

For contrast, imagine having a relationship without these needs being met. That relationship would suck and feel empty, no matter how hot or rich or tall or adventurous your partner was.

Your list is yours alone and only you can decide what to prioritize. Some examples of common relationship needs are loyalty, physical intimacy, open communication and intellectual stimulation.

Once you have your list, keep it with you, reflect on it and envision how you can start to recognize men who are ready, able and willing to fulfill these needs. Men who can fulfill them now, in a relationship with you. Not in theory, not in rom com fantasy, but in reality!

3. Get A Dating App (or three)

Let’s get down to brass tacks. We don’t have a lot of time between now and Valentine’s Day, so we need to fast track this new relationship of yours. You might prefer the idea of meeting someone by “chance” or without “trying.”

Well, I prefer the idea of you sending a loud and clear message to the universe that you are willing to walk the walk when it comes to manifesting love! And you should, too!

There are tons of dating apps to choose from. There’s Tinder, Hinge, MELD, Siren, Coffee Meets Bagel and tons of others! A quick Google search will help you find the right one or ones for you.

These apps are free, and they are easy — even fun to use! Because of the ease factor, you get a lot of people using apps who wouldn’t necessarily take the time to fill out a long dating profile and pay a membership fee online.

That is good news for you! You have every kind of person using dating apps and they all have one thing in common — they want to meet someone! Some are looking for a quick hookup and some are looking for marriage, and everything in between.

Take the time to fill out a short bio (leaving your bio blank implies you’re looking for a hookup), leave out any negative statements (e.g. “Don’t bother writing me if you’re a cheater“) and stay open!

You can’t know everything about a person based a tiny snippet of information, so don’t even try to! Make your first date a cup of coffee or a drink and make it happen quickly – no days or weeks of back and forth.

Before you meet, you can’t know if he’s Mr. Right — just learn enough to know if he’s Mr. Right For Coffee On A Wednesday!

4. Get A New Hobby

It’s time to shake things up! Do something new, just for you. Don’t do something practical, do something fun. Something that gets you excited. Maybe you’ll finally learn French or the Argentine tango. Find a class, find a group on meetup.com, find a YouTube channel to learn the basics and then go out and find a community of like-minded people.

The point of getting a new hobby is not to meet a man while doing it (though of course that might happen), the point is to do something that lights you up. Why?

Because that passion and excitement is totally hot. It’s magnetic.

You’ll be happier and subsequently, other people will be happy around you. That includes men!

Don’t wait until a month from now when a new class at your local Y opens up. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching! Go ahead and sign up for that class, but YouTube is free and if you’re reading these words, you have access to it.

Make your new hobby a habit!

5. Be On The Lookout

Single women tell me all the time that they have no idea where to meet men. The reality is, there are men all around you. They might not all turn your head at first sight, but they are there!

You never know who you might meet and what might come of that meeting unless you are open to connecting with men in your everyday life.

Being on the lookout is not the same as being on the prowl. You’re not putting on your sexiest outfit as you head to the office or supermarket and winking at strangers on the subway (unless you want to!).

I’m asking you to keep your eyes open and be available to make eye contact or share a smile or a hello. Just focus on spreading your lovely, welcoming energy to those you encounter!

If you normally spend your commute with your head buried in a book or a smartphone, try going without. Take your headphones off. Look around you and be present!

6. Get Some New Friends

I hear all the time from single people how much of an impact their friends have on their dating lives. Some complain about all of their friends being married or otherwise coupled, or their friends being highly dysfunctional in the dating arena. One woman told me that she and her best single girlfriends are “the blind leading the blind.”

Even if your friends are the light of your life, it can only help you to expand your social circle. I’m not saying you should ditch your friends (unless any of those relationships are toxic), but one of the best ways to meet a romantic partner is through a mutual friend or acquaintance. So it’s a good idea to get some new friends!

Surrounding yourself with like-minded people can help you reach your goals faster.

You might have to go outside of your immediate circle to find those like-minded people. If you’d like to get out more socially and your existing friends aren’t helping in that area – find new ones! Maybe it’s time to take that old co-worker up on that invitation to get a drink, or to ask one of those old classmates you’ve connected with on Facebook out to lunch.

7. Kiss The Nerdy Guys

Don’t take my word for this. Take a poll of every happily married or coupled woman you know. Ask her if her man was “cool” or had “game” or “swagger” when they first met. Ask her if he said all the right things, was suave and kept her guessing.

The answer is no 99% of the time. And there’s a reason for that – the guys who have game are usually playing a game. When someone really likes you, is about connecting with you on an authentic level, he’s not playing a game.

Even the coolest guy becomes “uncool” when he’s courting someone he really cares about AND is ready, able and willing to be in a relationship with.

So if that guy is acting a bit awkward and unsmooth and even nerdy with you, take it as a good sign!

8. Be Uncool

While we’re on the subject of coolness, it’s time for you to cut that sh*t out yourself! Being the “cool” woman, the one who goes along to get along and never asks for anything in return will get you nowhere, and fast!

No more sex without commitment and respect. No more “it’s cool” when you haven’t heard from a guy for weeks and he texts to see what you’re “up to” tonight. No more “Well, I’d like a relationship, but no pressure!” attitude.

If a guy is not interested in dating you once he finds out you are looking for a committed relationship, that you are not willing to have casual sex or welcome him back with open arms after he’s gone M.I.A. for a week, he’s doing you a favor!

Being honest about seeking a real commitment won’t “scare off” the right guy. If he runs away, he was not going to be your man anyway.

You deserve a partner who is all about you, who sees a future with you and is ready to start on the path to that future now.

And in case you’re thinking that you don’t play it “cool” because you give a guy a hard time or bust his balls when he doesn’t do what he says he will, guess what? You’re still going along to get along. If you continue to engage with him, continue to see him and hook up with him, you’re sending a message loud and clear to him and to the universe — you’ll take what you can get, even if what you’re getting is total crap.

9. Get Grateful

I can’t say enough good things about gratitude and its power. What you focus on expands! If you are grateful for the good things you have, even the small ones that a less observant person can easily take for granted, your life will change. Guaranteed!

Gratitude is KEY in the love manifesting process. If you are asked out by someone who is respectful and kind in his approach to you, be grateful. Even if you don’t go on the date (which you should strongly consider doing!), don’t take the invitation for granted. Be thankful for all of the love and kindness you receive in your life.

If you turn your nose up or take sincere romantic interest for granted, you are sending a message to the universe that you don’t want more of it!

So there you have it, my dear. Happy dating! Let me know how it goes and tell me about all the love you’re manifesting! You can comment below or hit me on Twitter @DearFranny.
