Rolling Stones Retail Experience Pops Up at Maxfield L.A.

A tongues-and-lips logo Artipoppe baby carrier, Bird scooter and Ladurée macarons can be yours at the new Rolling Stones x Bravado pop-up shop at Maxfield L.A. this week.
Timed to the band’s “No Filter” tour, which stops at the Rose Bowl on Aug. 22, when half of Hollywood is expected to rock out, the store features an assortment curated by Sarah Andelman of Paris boutique Colette and the consulting company, Just an Idea bringing together special products inspired by and celebrating The Rolling Stones, including Cactus Plant Flea Market T-shirts with the new barbed wire tongue-and-lips logo, Edward Bess lipsticks, Casetify Iphone cases, Yeti coolers and more.
L.A.-based multimedia artist Matt McCormick, who draws inspiration from Western Americana, painted the installation that resides in Maxfield’s pop-up space across the street from the flagship. And there are plenty of gigantic fiberglass lip sculptures for Insta moments, of course. The multicity experience, which kicked off last month at Bergdorf Goodman, is the brainchild of Universal Music Group’s Bravado merchandising arm.
The pop-up is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday, Aug. 24, at 8825 Melrose Avenue.

Continuing the very successful “From The Vault” series of classic, previously unreleased Rolling Stones live shows this release is taken from their performance at the Tokyo Dome in 1990, one of ten shows from the 14th to the 27th February at the venue which were the culmination of the Steel Wheels World Tour. Bridges To Bremen is the full-length show performed by the Stones on the fifth and final leg of the Bridges To Babylon Tour. Filmed at the German city’s Weserstadion on September 2, 1998, the band had by then completed four legs in the stadiums and arenas of North America (twice), Asia and South America before finally landing in Europe early that summer. Ever the innovators, Bridges To Babylon was a tour of firsts – the first time the band went on the road with a permanent B-stage, and also the first time where fans could vote on the band’s website for a track they wanted to hear on the setlist – Memory Motel in the case of the Bremen fans. This concert film has been meticulously restored from the original masters, and the audio remixed and remastered from the live multitrack recordings.

The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus was filmed before a live audience at a North London TV studio in 1968, Rock and Roll Circus was originally conceived as a BBC TV special but it never aired. It was directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg and centers on the original line up of the Rolling Stones – Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts (with Nicky Hopkins and Rocky Dijon) who serve as both the show’s hosts and featured attraction. The “World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band” is seen and heard performing six Stones classics-to-be: “Jumping Jack Flash,” “Parachute Woman,” “No Expectations,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Sympathy For The Devil” and “Salt of The Earth.” The program also includes full length musical performances by The Who, Jethro Tull, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithful, Yoko Ono as well as The Dirty Mac, a group that was the first musical context in which John Lennon performed before an audience outside The Beatles. The Dirty Mac was Eric Clapton (lead guitar), The Rolling Stones’ own Keith Richards (bass) and Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi Hendrix Experience (drums) with Lennon on guitar and vocals. A mirthful conversation between Jagger and Lennon to introduce The Dirty Mac finds them referring to each other as “Winston” and “Michael” with Jagger affecting a convincingly flat American accent and Lennon referring to himself as “Winston Leg-Thigh.”

This latest addition to the acclaimed From The Vaults series was filmed at the San Jose Arena on The Rolling Stones’ No Security tour, which ran from January to June 1999 through North America and Europe. It followed on from the colossal Bridges To Babylon tour and took its name from the “No Security” live album recorded on that 1997/98 tour. In reaction to the huge stadiums played on Bridges To Babylon the conscious decision was made to book the band into smaller venues for the initial North American leg of the No Security tour. This show was filmed in April 1999 in front of an audience of a little over 30,000 (intimate by Rolling Stones standards!) at the end of the North American dates. Previously unreleased, it captures the band in top form playing a set that spans from mid-sixties hit singles up to the then current Bridges To Babylon album.

As an added bonus, all visual formats feature five tracks from an earlier date on the Voodoo Lounge Tour that weren’t performed in Miami – making this the definitive record of The Rolling Stones’ Voodoo Lounge Tour.

The Rolling Stones’ free concert in Hyde Park on the 5th July 1969 has become the stuff of legend. It was the band’s first full live performance for two years, their first to feature Mick Taylor on guitar and came just two days after the tragic early death of their former guitarist Brian Jones. It was a free concert so nobody counted the crowd but it was undeniably in the hundreds of thousands. This film was originally shot for Granada TV in the UK and captures the full experience of the day. There are interview clips with the band, behind the scenes footage, interviews with the crowd and with the Hell’s Angels providing the security and of course The Rolling Stones on stage, including the first live performance of “Honky Tonk Women”, classics like “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, “Midnight Rambler” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and an epic version of “Sympathy For The Devil” complete with African drummers and dancers. Newly restored, remixed and remastered, “The Rolling Stones Hyde Park Live 1969” is now better than ever!

On November 22nd, 1981, in the middle of their mammoth American tour, the Rolling Stones arrived in Chicago prior to playing 3 nights at the Rosemont Horizon. Long influenced by the Chicago blues, the band paid a visit to Muddy Waters’ club the Checkerboard Lounge to see the legendary bluesman perform. It didn’t take long before Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Ian Stewart were joining in on stage and later Buddy Guy and Lefty Dizz also played their part. It was a unique occasion that was fortunately captured on camera. Now, restored from the original footage and with sound mixed and mastered by Bob Clearmountain, this amazing blues night is being made available in an official release for the first time.

A mirthful conversation between Jagger and Lennon to introduce The Dirty Mac finds them referring to each other as "Winston" and "Michael" with Jagger affecting a convincingly flat American accent and Lennon referring to himself as "Winston Leg-Thigh."

Price: $ 19.99

2014 Carol Award Winner for Speculative The Fate of the Kingdom Awaits the Cast of Stones In the backwater village of Callowford, roustabout Errol Stone is enlisted by a church messenger arriving with urgent missives for the hermit priest in the hills. Eager for coin, Errol agrees to what he thinks will be an easy task, but soon finds himself hunted by deadly assassins. Forced to flee with the priest and a small band of travelers, Errol soon learns he's joined a quest that could change the fate of his kingdom. Protected for millennia by the heirs of the first king, the kingdom's dynasty nears its end and the selection of the new king begins–but in secret and shadow. As danger mounts, Errol must leave behind the stains and griefs of the past, learn to fight, and discover who is hunting him and his companions and how far they will go to stop the reading of the stones. "With an engaging, imaginative world that bristles with danger, characters that keep you guessing, and a story that sticks with you, A Cast of Stones will keep you devouring pages until the very end. I highly recommend it!" –John W. Otte, author of Failstate "Carr's debut, the first in a series, is assured and up-tempo, with much to enjoy in characterization and description–not least the homely, life-as-lived details." – Publishers Weekly This fast-paced fantasy debut set in a medieval world is a winner. Both main and secondary characters are fully drawn and endearing, and Errol's transformation from drunkard to hero is well plotted. Carr is a promising CF author to watch. Fans of epic Christian fantasies will enjoy discovering a new voice.  "Like the preceding series title, Inescapable, this tale of suspense offers a colorful cast of characters, small-town drama, and a hint of romance. A sure bet for fans of Hannah Alexander." — Library Journal "[Good fantasy books] have to be excellent. Good storytelling and exceptional characters with circumstances that are easy enough to follow and wrap your brain around but keep you entertained and guessing… Cast of Stones has found itself firmly in that list of books. I absolutely, one hundred percent loved this book." –Radiant Lit

Watch Rolling Stones Play First Concert Since L'Wren Scott's Death

The following article is provided by Rolling Stone.

By KORY GROW

The Rolling Stones have resumed touring following a break to mourn the death of Mick Jagger’s longtime girlfriend, L’Wren Scott. The group played its first concert Monday night since March at Norway’s Telenor Arena, near Oslo. Jagger did not mention Scott during the show.

According to the BBC, the group spent a week in Oslo rehearsing for the show at film studio complex Filmparken, performing a dress rehearsal Saturday night at Telenor Arena attended by the E Street Band’s Steve Van Zandt.

Fans were given the chance to vote for a song before the show, and while Jagger told the crowd the favorite was Norwegian band A-ha’s “Take on Me,” it was too high-pitched for him to sing. The group ended up playing “Let’s Spend the Night Together” for the first time since 2007.

Scott, who had been dating Jagger since 2001, was found dead of an apparent suicide in her New York City apartment in mid March. Jagger was heartbroken by the news, saying, “I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way,” in a statement. The band postponed seven dates of its tour of Australia and New Zealand, which it had been on at the time of Scott’s death, so Jagger could fly to New York and grieve. As scheduled, the group will play those makeup dates in October and November.

Each of Jagger’s bandmates offered words of support to Jagger in their own statements. “Mick’s always been my soul brother and we love him,” Keith Richards said. Follow guitarist Ron Wood said it was important that the band members pull together to support Jagger. “Needless to say we are all completely shocked, but our first thought is to support Mick at this awful time,” drummer Charlie Watts said.

In early May, a memorial for Scott was held in New York City. Mick Jagger, Sarah Jessica Parker and Martin Scorsese were among those who gathered to mourn her loss. The Stones singer shared some thoughts about Scott and sang Bob Dylan’s “Just Like a Woman” at the service. A couple of days later, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin dedicated “Fix You” to Jagger at his group’s New York City concert.

The Stones’ return to the stage in Norway this month found them playing for an audience of 23,000. It was their first show in the country since 2007, and marked the first of a run of 14 European tour dates, set to end at Denmark’s Roskilde Festival on July 3rd.
