This is America? Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino is getting sued by his own record label over streaming royalties.
Glassnote Entertainment Group has filed a lawsuit against Childish Gambino claiming he’s aced them out of the loot he’s collected for streaming royalties.
As for those royalties … they’re a lot. The suit claims Donald has raked in more than $ 700k in streaming money and hasn’t anted up a cent to Glassnote.
What really galls Glassnote is its claim that it has paid Donald nearly $ 8 MILLION and expects to pay him another $ 2 mil in royalties in the next 3 months. The label also claims Donald made a $ 1.5 million demand from them to resolve streaming royalty disputes.
Worth noting, Glover’s latest hit, “This Is America,” is not on Glassnote.

Remember Chris Brown’s San Jose show back in January which ended with five people getting shot for coming up?
Well, one of the victims wants restitution, citing the R&B star’s “lack of security” as the reason he took a bullet simply for being a fan.
Lawyers for Paul Briley, 22, claim the college student suffered “a permanent injury” to his foot when he was shot at “Chris Brown’s Capricorn Bash” at the Fiesta Nightclub on Monterey Highway early on the morning of Jan. 11.
All five people who were wounded suffered non-life-threatening injuries, San Jose Police spokesperson Officer Albert Morales told NBC Bay Area back in January.
The lawsuit includes references to prior violence incidents at Chris Brown concerts and his 2009 felony conviction for a notorious assault on his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
“This shooting should never have happened. Brown’s managers and the concert promoters know that violence follows in Brown’s wake,” attorney Richard Alexander said in a statement.
The lawsuit claims the club had been over-sold beyond capacity. It also states, given “shooting incidents … at similar concerts hosted by Brown under similar circumstances,” the defendants should have implemented stringent security procedures, such as metal detectors and pat-downs.
The suit cites the defendants’ “negligence and carelessness” as having led to Briley’s injuries.
Briley is suing Brown and the club to recoup lost earnings, his medical expenses, and a variety of other damages including “past, present, and future physical, mental and emotional pain and suffering, including fright, shock, terror, and post-traumatic stress of being shot.”
Not to say to Chris Brown isn’t culpable for the crime but if these “violent incidents” at his concert preceded his reputation, what sense did it make to attend? Also, what does the Rihanna incident have to do with this?
Briley may be the only victim who has filed suit so far but you know the other four are inevitable.

Jon Astor-White alleges he shopped in 2007 a show similar to “Empire."
Terrence Howard has a host of real-life problems but his place of business has attracted yet another lawsuit.
The premise isn’t as elaborate or sensational as one of the hit show Empire’s subplots. It’s just another guy claiming Empire stole his life story/idea.
Imagine “Empire” with Shaft in the lead role … that was the vision one guy had, but it never got made … and now he believes the creators of the show owe him $ 500 million for stealing his idea.
A guy named Jon Astor-White is suing EPs Danny Strong and Lee Daniels — as well as Imagine Entertainment and 21st Century Fox — claiming he shopped around a show called “King Solomon” back in 2007 … which bears a lot of similarities to “Empire.”
Astor-White claims his show would have starred Richard Roundtree (Shaft said no thanks) and was about a record executive and his family and their battle over control of the company.
Astor-White said he faxed the treatment around, and included a proposed cast list which was aspirational, to say the least. In addition to Roundtree, Astor-White wanted Diahann Carroll, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, John Goodman, George Hamilton and Angie Dickinson.
Astor-White describes his show as “the style and elegance of ‘Dynasty’ meets ‘The Sopranos’ with a sprinkling of ‘The Godfather.’” That’s a similar comparison Marvin Gaye III made in his claim.
The show has also been sued by a guy with Jackson family connections and by a woman who claims she is the real Cookie.
Astor-White is seeking the half a billion dollars … plus additional damages.
The struggle will likely continue down the line. Empire’s second season starts on September 23.
Rick Ross had one job. But since Rozay didn’t tweet about a Super Bowl party that he was hosting enough times, he is being sued for at least $ 55K.
Conexts is suing Rick for the Jan. 30 event that was scheduled to go down at the Scottsdale Mall Amphitheater. According to the docs, Ricky Rozay agreed to do some heavy duty social media promotion for the party and concert.
The company says he was supposed to do DAILY social postings for 2 weeks leading up to it — but only did ONE post. Conexts says it was crucial for the event’s success for Rick to reach out to his 13 million followers.
Rozay didn’t have a social media manager to handle that?
For its trouble, Context is seeking the $ 55K it paid Ross plus damages. Meanwhile, Ross’ TL on Instagram is looking rather steady.

Ashley Madison’s failure to protect the adulterous secrets of its users has resulted in a lawsuit eclipsing more than half a billion dollars.
Reports ABC News:
Two Canadian law firms have filed a $ 578 million class-action lawsuit against the companies that run Ashley Madison after a hacker group’s data breach exposed some 39 million memberships in the adultery website earlier this week.
Charney Lawyers and Sutts, Strosberg LLP, both of Ontario, said Friday that they filed the lawsuit on behalf of Canadians who subscribed to Ashley Madison and whose personal information was disclosed to the public. The website, with its slogan “Life is short. Have an affair,” is marketed to facilitate extramarital relationships.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, targets Avid Dating Life Inc. and Avid Life Media Inc., the Toronto-based companies that run AshleyMadison.com. Its class-action status “still needs to be certified by the court,” the statement says.
Ashley Madison did not immediately respond to requests for comment. It has said that the personal details exposed in the initial data leak can’t be used to prove the infidelity of their clients.
The plaintiff is Eliot Shore, an Ottawa widower. Shore said he joined the website for a short time in search of companionship after he lost his wife to breast cancer. He said he never cheated and never met up with any members of the site.
Lawyer Ted Charney told The Associated Press it is the first class-action suit filed against the companies in Canada.
The most famous name to emerge from the Ashley Madison breach so far is embattled 19 Kids and Counting star, Josh Duggar.

Pioneering Salsa group El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico is dragging the native New Yorker to court because his love for their music allegedly didn’t match the intergrity of sample clearance procedures. A couple of tracks from his earlier projects, Bon Appetit ….. Bitch and the initial installment of Blue Chips are named in the suit.
Action Bronson’s big appetite for Latin music is coming back to haunt him … he’s being sued for allegedly ripping off 2 tracks by Puerto Rican salsa legends El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico.
The owners of El Gran Combo’s songs “Falsaria” and “Trampolin” say the tracks were sampled without permission on Bronson’s songs “Mofongo” and “Tapas.”
They say Bronson even admitted on Twitter in 2011 he sampled “Falsaria” and single out a 2014 Inquisitor interview where the Queens rapper gushed, “I like to cook to Spanish and Latin music. If you’re in the kitchen … I’d suggest bands like El Gran Cambo de Puerto Rico.”
They bring up his affinity for naming songs after food dishes … “Mofongo,” is also the name of a popular Puerto Rican dish.
They claim Bronson has made and is still making bank off the plagiarism because the tracks are still all over music platforms. The owners want Bronson to stop distribution and pay them damages.

Did the WWE legend “The Undertaker” sue Meek Mill for 500k for using his wrestling theme song in his Drake Diss “Wanna Know”? There are reports, but I cannot seem to get a fully factual report. Here is what one site is saying:
WWE Legend, The Undertaker, has reportedly filed a $ 500,000 lawsuit against rapper Meek Mill for illegally sampling his famous entrance music. The song ‘Wanna Know’ is a diss track aimed at Drake who over the last couple of days has been caught up in a controversy with Meek Mill. The track has since been getting negative views since it was released, and not everyone seemed to have liked the diss track, especially legendary wrestler, The Undertaker. ‘I don’t know if he didn’t think I was going hear it, but I did’ said The Undertaker whose real name is Mark Calaway. ‘I wouldn’t have filed a lawsuit if the track was actually good. But since he included my theme in a f**king garbage track, I’m angry. My plain theme song was a better diss itself than Meek Mill’s.’ he said….

If Tyga is indeed cursed for the year 2015, this newest lawsuit has painfully he still has roughly an half of year to endure it.
The embattled rapper is being accused of doing some shady business regarding his Last Kings clothing line.
Tyga screwed a woman — not named Kylie — by lying to her, and jacking her concept for a clothing company to the tune of more than a MILLION bucks … or so she claims in a new lawsuit.
According to the docs … Tyga and Chuon Guen Lee formed the clothing line Last Kings in January 2013 — and she says Tyga promised to heavily promote the line and get it on shelves in the popular clothing chain, Tilly’s.
Lee says none of those things happened, and then Tyga made off with more than half a mil in merch. The real kick in the gut — she says he started another company with another partner, and cleverly named it … Egypt Kings.
Needless to say, Lee is not amused by the wordplay. She’s suing Tyga and his new partner for $ 1.6 mil, plus damages.
Tyga’s reps tell us, “These, like other allegations, are completely false. This was a business relationship that went sour and was ended last year. We learned of the complaint via TMZ and are aware that individuals will continue to attempt to cash in on Tyga’s success.”
Speaking of success, Birdman is reportedly unhappy with Tyga’s latest album, floundering on the charts.

(AllHipHop News) Tuesday morning (July 7), it has been confirmed that both Chris Tucker and Netflix are being sued by comedian, Terry Hodges, for $ 66,000, this according to TMZ. Tucker’s anticipated comedy special will be broadcast via Netflix on Friday (July 10).
Marty Singer, Chris Tucker’s attorney has released the following statement, “”This lawsuit is absurd and completely without merit. We fully expect this case to be thrown out by the court.”
In his recently filed lawsuit, Hodges claims that he has has been contributing his time and material to the project since 2008, but has not received any consistent financial compensation since 2011. He then goes on to insist that his writing, producing, editing, acting fees and travel expenses have been utterly ignored, as was Tucker’s purported promise to make him a co-producer. That title would have helped Hodges secure more money on the back-end.
