Borbonese, Istituto Marangoni Team Up on Talent Search

Italian luxury accessories brand Borbonese is launching a project in collaboration with several international schools aimed at expanding its horizons and dialoguing with the new generation of creative minds in order to reach a younger audience.
Called Officina Borbonese, the project kicks off this month in a partnership with Milanese fashion school Istituto Marangoni. About 70 students from the master’s programs in Fashion & Luxury Brand Management and Fashion Start Up will be selected to study and analyze the Borbonese brand and will be asked to pitch new ideas in terms of style, traditional and digital communication, as well as marketing strategies focused on both European and international markets, such as India, China and Korea.
“Officina Borbonese was born to find a contemporary way to communicate the brand’s core values,” said Borbonese chief executive officer Alessandro Pescara. “We would like Officina Borbonese to be a laboratory of both creative ideas and product research. We have in mind a sort of Desk Design Thinking, a space dedicated to creativity, which brings new interpretations of our iconic products, but also new forms of communication, an exchange between the company and the school, getting the world of production and creative imagination closer.”
In particular, Pescara highlighted

Shanghai Fashion Week Showcases Chinese Design Talent

Shanghai Fashion Week kicked off October 13 with a roster of increasingly consistent designers from China showing spring collections. Along with the rise of an independent design culture in the country, a change in both the retail mind-set and consumer desires has simultaneously increased the number of stores and boutiques willing to take a chance on local talent.
A few short years ago, a very different crowd populated the fashion week tents located in the city’s upmarket shopping district, Xintiandi. Today, buyers from across China — as well as some from overseas — are joining media and other industry players. The event’s higher profile is also in evident outside the tents, where interested onlookers peruse the parade of street style and scalpers sell tickets to the shows.
Here are some highlights from the spring 2016 collections.
Fake Natoo: Beijing-born Zhang Na showed a breezy, casual Fake Natoo collection for spring, opening her show with a series of white cotton shirts, trousers and shirtdresses — worn loose and sometimes layered. While the lineup lacked the drama and gravitas of her fall outing, slinky full-length silk dresses and wide-leg jumpsuits hanging from barely-there crisscross spaghetti straps were a highlight.

“After Words” Showcases Marcia Gay Harden’s Talent

Movie Review – Jackie K Cooper
“After Words” (Level 33 Entertainment)

Marcia Gay Harden can do no wrong. Any role she undertakes ends up being a special one just because of her talent, charm and charisma. In her latest film “After Words”, she portrays a single woman in her forties who is at the end of her rope. She has a plan to end her life but delays it until after a trip to Costa Rica. Watching Harden go from a beaten plain Jane to a woman on the cusp of a wonderful life makes for grand movie entertainment.

Jane (Harden) is a librarian in Los Angeles, going through the motions of her life but without any real enthusiasm about it. When her employment is terminated due to a downturn in the economy she takes her savings and splurges on a trip to Costa Rica. Suddenly Jane is a woman with a plan. She will go to a foreign land and while there she will end her sad, dull life.

Juan (Oscar Jaenada) is a man whose life does have purpose. He works to earn enough money to provide his daughter Anna (Jenna Ortega) with some of the good things of life. This particularly means an education at an American school in Costa Rica. He sees this as a way to guarantee her the best opportunities possible. It is expensive but Juan is willing to do what it takes to keep Anna there.

What Juan sometimes does is act as a tour guide. And sometimes his tour guide service provides the older ladies who hire him with something extra in the romance department. When Juan spies Jane he sees a perfect client. The rest of the movie focuses on the effect Juan has on Jane and Jane has on Juan.

Director Juan Feldman paces his story perfectly. The friendship between these two flawed human beings takes time to come to fruition. Juan is friendly and charming but it will take more than that to change Jane’s plans to end it all. Plus there is always the possibility the time in Costa Rica will be the perfect note on which to end it all.

Harden’s Jane is a character who sticks with you after the movie ends. She has many transitions and all are played with truth and believability. Jaenada’s Juan is the perfect counterpoint to her depressing aura. He is so alive, and so eager to please that it would be a crime not to enjoy his world. You certainly are able to see what he sees in her and what she sees in him.

This movie is a romantic fantasy and it must be accepted as that to be enjoyed. You can quibble that someone of Jane’s age must have some friends and/or relatives. You can also nitpick that protected hearts can not open up to adventure so quickly. But if you go with the flow and just accept the story as presented you will have a grand time with it.

The film is not rated.

“After Words” is similar to an old Katherine Hepburn film titled “Summertime”. In it she played a “spinster” on a European vacation who finds love. Hepburn made it all believable and Harden does too. So immerse yourself in the beauty of the Costa Rica setting and let your heart open up to a romantic fantasy.

I scored “After Words” a holiday 6 out of 10.

Caitlyn Reveals Hidden Talent

For those who think Caitlyn Jenner’s only talent is learning how to walk, pivot and turn in six-inch heels, hold onto your Spanx. At an exclusive interview with This Reporter at the Four Seasons Hotel overlooking Central Park, Jenner moistened her manicured index fingers with her tongue and expertly traced the rims of a dozen Waterford crystal goblets filled with varying amounts of Dom Perignon. The result was a chilling, if pitchy, rendition of I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar. The entire wait staff applauded.

“I was planning on using this as my talent for Miss Universe,” Jenner said, “But my People tell me it’s been delayed. The networks are miffed at Donald for speaking Truth to Power.”

When This Reporter asked Jenner if she was serious about competing in a beauty contest at her age, she threw back her head and laughed in delight, while grabbing This Reporter’s testicles and squeezing with Olympian strength. “Honey, I didn’t pay seventy mil to become a dried up crone. I’m a young, hot, juicy babe,” purred Jenner. “And these buns are a helluva lot tighter than those double-wide Kardashians.”

While she is disappointed about what she described as Trump’s “Mexican mishagas” which has sidetracked her Miss Universe dreams, Jenner has no doubt about his presidential ambitions. “Donald’s the only one with cojones,” she said, giving mine another tweak. “Jeb Bush is a bore. Christy needs to go to fat camp. And Rubio isn’t an American. Donald is going to make chopped liver out of them.”

Jenner doesn’t see Hillary as a threat to Trump’s bid for the White House. “Have you seen her hair?” Jenner gasped. “And those pantsuits? She looks like a contestant on Wheel of Fortune. Besides, Donald has more experience.”

“Hillary served as a Senator and Secretary of State , while Trump has never held political office,” This Reporter interjected.

Jenner batted her false eyelashes. “America doesn’t need or want another politician. America needs a better licensing deal. That’s what The Donald will provide. Does Hillary have her own perfume, jewelry or clothing line? Hell, no! Donald does. He understands that America is a global franchise in desperate need of better PR. The Democrats don’t get that.”

“What about ISIS?” This Reporter asked.

“That’s a gotcha question,” Jenner said. ” I’ll only say that rap music has made an important contribution to our culture and I’m very proud of Kanye’s success.”

“What about Bernie Sanders?” This Reporter asked. “How do you think Trump will hold up in a debate with him?”

“Don’t you watch The Apprentice?” Jenner smirked. “Donald doesn’t have to debate. He fires people.”

When asked about her allegiance to the GOP, Jenner took a moment to compose herself. “I know what people think,” she sighed. “As a transgender individual I should be supportive of the party that fought so long and hard for same-sex marriage, gender equality, civil rights and women’s issues. But they forget. I live in Hollywood where everyone and their acupuncturist is a Democrat. This is my way of separating myself from all the other drop dead gorgeous babes in the biz. Being a Republican is my Brand. Look what it did for Sarah Palin.”

Underneath her glossy, auburn tresses, Jenner conceals a facile mind, sharp wit and cunning ambition. “Look,” she says, “The real reason I transitioned was because I was nothing more than comic relief in the Kardashian reality show. I had no traction. Now, I’ve got more people following me than Kim or Chloe.”

“You mean on Twitter?” This Reporter asked.

“No, hon. I mean people!” Jenner stood up, flinging her Hermes Kelly bag over her broad shoulders, and snapped her fingers. An army of publicists, photographers, managers, stylists and lawyers trailed in her wake – all whistling I Am Woman.

Bill Cosby Dropped By Talent Agency CAA

Bill Cosby has been dumped by his talent agency, CAA, and is currently without representation, according to Deadline Hollywood.

According to the website, Creative Artists Agency actually cut ties with him late last year — well before the Associated Press obtained previously sealed court documents in which the 77-year-old admitted he bought Quaaludes with the intention of giving them to women he intended to have sex with, and admitted to giving a sedative to at least one woman.

The agency, who represented the actor and comedian since 2012, remained tight-lipped about the split, only telling Deadline, “We do not represent [Cosby] at this time.”

Cosby, who has now been accused of sexual assault by more than two dozen women, has never been charged with a crime. Additionally, the statute of limitations on most of the allegations has already expired, however, several of Cosby’s accusers are currently suing the actor for defamation

Cosby’s longtime rep David Brokaw declined comment to Deadline and has yet to respond to request for comment made by The Huffington Post.

Isko Celebrates Winners of Talent Competition

DENIM NIGHTS: Isko, the Turkish denim manufacturer for brands such as Diesel and Guess, celebrated the winners of the second Isko I-Skool talent search competition in Milan on Thursday night.
Organized and sponsored by Isko, the competition launched in November 2014 in London is split into the categories Denim Design and Denim Marketing. It involves international academic institutions from Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, the U.K. and the U.S.
Students competing in the Denim Design category were required to interpret denim in four different ways: bohemian blue, couture denim, active jeanswear and future fit. For Denim Marketing, the brief was to develop a complete marketing platform for a denim concept, including graphic design for product identity and a comprehensive communications strategy.
During the award ceremony, called “Blue Starry Night,” held at celebrity chef Carlo Cracco’s restaurant Carlo e Camilla in Segheria, the winners presented their creations during a fashion show, which was judged by an international jury. In addition, award winners in the categories of Bling-Bling Denim, Promising Talent, Design With Crystal Elements, Best Wash and Creative Garment Communication Design were announced. Each was sponsored by one of the partner companies involved in the competition.

Theater: Jimmy Awards Light Up Broadway With Teen Talent

NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE AWARDS *** out of ****
MINSKOFF THEATRE

Summertime may be slow for new shows on Broadway, but it’s a great chance for other events to garner attention. The August Wilson Monologue Competition in May spotlights USA’s greatest playwright and gives high school kids from around the country a chance to sink their teeth into his work. If you’re planning a visit to the city in July, checking out the brand new musicals getting full productions in the New York Musical Theatre Festival from July 7-27 is an absolute must.

And in June, savvy theater buffs check out the talent on display at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. Hosted by two time Tony winner Michael Cerveris, the awards offer scholarships to deserving winners, give 52 talented teens a chance to be mentored, receive top notch coaching, work with directors and choreographers and then perform numbers on a Broadway stage. But put all that good work aside: it’s just a fun evening of entertainment and you invariably spot a star or two of tomorrow. They’re nicknamed the Jimmy, in honor of James Nederlander, who has been working in the theater world for 86 years (he started sweeping the floors for his dad when he was 7) and was proudly in attendance.

The evening is split into two parts. In the first half, six groups of performers do medleys of songs from the musical that took them from their local schools to regional competitions to New York City. Numbers are strung together very cleverly, often with two or more actors who tackled Mary Poppins or Doctor Frankenstein or the lead in Big Fish (apparently a big show in high schools last year!) trading off lines in clever ways. Based on this night’s entertainment (and a full solo performance by each actor the day before for a panel of judges) six finalists are selected. In the second act, three men and three women do another number and two winners are chosen.

It’s a fun night worth every penny, with the money going to fund the evening and all the arts outreach done by the various groups involved with the National High School Musical Theatre Awards. Naturally, the audience is filled with family and friends. Yet it’s a shame more casting directors and agents don’t flock to the show because there’s a lot of talent here. They really should post the solo performances from Sunday of all 52 performers online, not to mention the medleys and solo numbers done live on stage Monday night. Why not showcase their talent as much as possible?

The performers themselves give you hope for musical theater when you realize how much work they put into learning their choreography, the group numbers, the lyrics of the other songs in their medleys AND bits of business to do throughout. All in less than a week. Much credit for the night goes to director Van Kaplan, choreographer Kiesha Lalama and musical director and arranger Michael Moricz, who do a sterling job in a very short amount of time molding these kids into a satisfying ensemble.

I’m not quite sure who to credit for the creative decisions that turn 52 individual performances into a medley. Vast fun is had in transitioning from one song into another, often to humorous effect. Wisely, they focus on turning out a good show, rather than worrying about shortchanging one performer or another. There’s simply no good way to showcase three different actors who played the same role and each gets a chance to strut their stuff the day before. Witty moments abound and it’s surely a group effort of all involved, though Kaplan’s name is at the top as director.

The highlight was unquestionably having the maid in Caroline, Or Change bemoan her job and then having two of the four actresses who played Mary Poppins assure Caroline that “In every job that must be done/ there is an element of fun.” Clearly a tremendous effort has been made to give all the actors bits of business: they stay in character even when performing in the ensemble or passing off the baton from one performer to the next, often getting little laughs but never, ever upstaging one another or interfering with the overall flow.

Marla Louissant was the night’s standout and won Best Actress for her performance as Caroline, as well as a solo turn doing “I’m Here” from The Color Purple. The judges have a lot more to draw upon when making their choices than the audience but there was no doubting Louissant’s talent as an actress and singer. If the new Broadway revival of The Color Purple didn’t already have its star, Louissant would be ready to make the leap today, just as a runner up from two years ago jumped right into the West End revival of Miss Saigon.

Anthony Skillman won Best Actor after doing a number from Tarzan and a solo turn from Parade, specifically Frankie’s angry soliloquy “It Don’t Make Sense.” And Skillman proved Tony ready in his endearing acceptance speech, giving a happy shout out to the Supreme Court decision for marriage equality and thanking his parents in the audience in the same breath.

Here’s Skillman doing a performance of a medley during one of the regional events leading up to the finals.

Yet they were far from the only story here. I circled six people as locks for the finals (I got three right) and another ten as very promising talents. So more applause for Kylie Lynn Heyman who gave verve to Reno Sweeney of Anything Goes. I was certain she’d be one of the finalists! Travis Anderson was a long-limbed Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, also from Anything Goes (but a different production), creating a full comic performance in about 90 seconds. He was matched by Zac Gottschall’s equally winning Horace Vandergelder from Hello, Dolly and Larry McKay’s charming J. Pierrepont Finch from How To Succeed.

Marnie Quick made the tricky Bacharach/David tune “Wishin’ And Hopin'” seem easy. She too was a deserved finalist. Aleksander Papanastasopoules had by far the best name of the night and was a very good Javert, matched by Evatt Salinger’s convincing Jean Valjean. Kamari A. Saxon was the lucky talent who earned a scholarship to attend Carnegie Mellon’s pre-College Drama Program. (I wish I’d been able to hear his performance from Violet in full.) Noah Barnes was a natural for Joe Hardy from Damn Yankees he’s too handsome and gifted with such a classic, gorgeous Broadway voice (he opened his mouth and filled the Minskoff with ease) that you have to believe this won’t be the last time Barnes will be on stage in New York.

Finally, my vote for Best Actor based simply on what I saw this night was for finalist Alec Michael Ryan who was excellent as Laurence in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and — like Louissant — had one of the night’s cleverest transitions and made the most of it, in his case playing off Les Miserables. His solo turn (“Who I’d Be” from Shrek The Musical) jand medley number both felt like complete performances as both actor and singer. I don’t always say that with the pros being paid to perform on Broadway every night but I’m saying it about him. And I’d happily pay to see him perform again.

Jerry Reed’s Daughter: ‘My Dad’s Talent Wasn’t Confined to Country Music’

In 1972, Jerry Reed was on top of the world musically. Hit records like "When You're Hot, You're Hot" and his often-imitated style of guitar playing were making him a household name across the nation. And, in December of that year, the singer entered unchartered territory for a country performer: He appeared as a guest star on the Saturday morning cartoon Scooby Doo, Where Are You? That, according to his daughter Seidina, was a watershed moment — at least for her. "I was hot when Dad was on Scooby Doo," she recalled to Billboard with a laugh. "The kids all loved me. I was so excited. Dad was on a cartoon!"

Talent Hunt in Hyères: A Look at Four Promising Finalists

The annual Hyères Festival has evolved into a popular recruiting ground for big luxury groups. Among the crowd were Mathias Ohrel, founder of m-O, a recruitment firm in the luxury sector, as well as Chantal Gaemperle, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s group executive vice president for human resources and synergies director.
“We follow all the finalists,” said Ohrel. “Winner or no winner; it has never been a criterion for us. Winning a prize doesn’t change our perception much.”
Added Clémence Désobeau, a retail, fashion and luxury goods consultant at Badenoch & Clark: “There’s no bad candidate; there are only bad equations.”
While Annelie Schubert of Germany took home the grand prize, here’s a look at the four other Hyères 2015 finalists.
A look from Anna Bornhold.

Why 'America's Got Talent' Winner Terry Fator Finally Stopped His 'Out-Of-Control' Spending (VIDEO)

When ventriloquist Terry Fator won “America’s Got Talent” in 2007, he signed a $ 100 million contract with The Mirage in Las Vegas and started living large. New cars, a lavish home, expensive possessions — Fator wanted it all, as he explains in an interview for “Oprah: Where Are They Now?”

“When I first started making money, man, I was out of control,” he says in the above video. “Two times a year, I would trade my car in and get a new one. I just couldn’t get enough of it. I just wanted to spend, spend, spend.”

But everything changed when the entertainer married his wife, Taylor Makakoa.

“My wife is very frugal,” Fator says. “I have to explain to her that I like the name-brand ketchup. Don’t get me the store-brand ketchup, because I don’t like the store brand. She wants to save money, but it’s a nickel less, you know?”

One of Fator’s more expensive marriage lessons came when Makakoa celebrated a birthday. “I bought her $ 40,000 worth of Tiffany jewelry. I mean, it was gorgeous… I was so excited,” he says. “I gave it to her for her birthday and the look on her face — I knew she didn’t like it.”

When Fator asked his wife what was wrong, she told him she simply couldn’t wear $ 40,000 worth of jewelry, as beautiful as it was.

“She took it back,” Fator says. “Got the money back and bought a $ 1,500 nice necklace. She gave the rest to her favorite animal charity.”

Makakoa’s frugality has since rubbed off on Fator. “She’s really helped rein me in,” he says.

New episodes of “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” begin airing on Sunday, June 1, at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
