I wish I could hit rewind and read the book again for the first time!" — Kami Garcia, #1 New York Times bestselling coauthor of Beautiful Creatures and author of The Lovely Reckless "No one packs as much prickly angst and heartwarming drama on each and every single page the way Abbi Glines does. Fans of the Rosemary Beach series are going to LOSE THEIR MINDS when they meet these characters!" — Natasha is a Book Junkie "The kind of book you can't read fast enough—a forbidden love story that's deliciously tense with an ending that left me clamoring for more." — Vilma Iris The day her mother passed away, Beulah was only given a name. That was it. No other explanation. Portia Van Allan was not someone Beulah could believe her mother ever knew. Wealthy, self-absorbed and other than the fact Portia was supplying special care for Beulah’s sister, Portia was cruel. The day Portia’s son returns home for the summer, Beulah discovers that Portia isn’t in charge. This isn’t her home at all. Her late husband left her with nothing. It all belongs to their son who doesn’t seem to like his mother at all. Jasper Van Allan doesn’t know why his mother has hired a young gorgeous blonde to take care of the house and almost lets her go before he finds out the truth. Realizing there’s more to Beulah than a stunning face, he keeps finding reasons to be near her all the time. It’s all falling into place, it all begins to make sense . . . until the real lies, the dark secrets, and the skeletons come tumbling out of the Van Allan closet. Twisted truths that will send Beulah running . . . … "Abbi Glines is the queen of steamy modern day fairytales with a twist. Sweet Little Thing will keep you guessing and needing more from the very first word all the way to the very last." — Danielle Lagasse “Sweet little things is a perfect blend of Romance and Drama. The One Thing Bill Maher Loves About Donald Trump

On “Real Time With Bill Maher” Friday night, Maher led a panel discussion about the Republican presidential candidates’ greatest weaknesses, inspired by the question that opened the GOP debate Wednesday.

While Maher has expressed clearly negative feelings about Trump in the past, he did reveal one thing he appreciates about the candidate.

“Trump [was] the only guy who was honest,” Maher said to his panelists. “He said, ‘I don’t forgive.’ I love Trump for that. He’s like, I don’t forgive. You fuck with me, I’m Vito Corleone, I will follow you back to Italy. I will find you in your old age and I will stick a knife in your stomach.'”

Back in September, Maher called out Trump’s ignorant comments about undocumented workers by channeling him in a segment jokingly telling Americans to rally against Australians “taking” our jobs.

“Australia is not sending us its best people,” he said. “They’re bringing drugs — yes, enough for everybody, but still — they’re rapists — OK, not rapists, but they do a lot of fucking — and I assume some are good people.”

Sigh. It’s not too surprising that Maher had trouble finding something about Trump to like.

Zola Story Memes Are Already A Thing Of Legend [Photos]

It has been an incredible 24 hours since the infamous “Zola Story” made a tidal wave splash onto the Internet and the people are still trying to wrap their heads around it. Is it real? Was it made up? How is this stripper girl not in handcuffs for being an accessory to at least one crime?

While no one has the answers just yet, there has been a healthy restocking of memes thanks to the Zola Story and they are nothing short of hilarious.

If you have been snoozing, the Zola Story is still live on the Internet but we wouldn’t suggest you bank on it to stay up forever. Everyone from Ava DuVernay to Zola Jesus have chimed in and there’s even a fake Jess Twitter account getting traction. It was an instant classic.

Check out the memes down below and on the next few pages. The people are downright lowdown for likening Z to Ricky Rozay.

News in Brief: Child’s Loose Grasp On Balloon Only Thing Between Peace And Anarchy At Restaurant

JACKSONVILLE, FL—Eating their meals and conversing pleasantly without paying any heed to how loosely the string was wrapped around the young child’s finger, diners at a local Panera Bread reportedly went about their lunch Wednesday completely unaware that 2-year-old Nate Pollen’s tenuous grasp on a red helium balloon was the only thing standing between peace and total anarchy. Sources confirmed that as Pollen waved the balloon around, the restaurant’s patrons—enjoying their soups and sandwiches or silently working on their laptops—were unknowingly teetering on the very knife’s edge of madness, their path to either continued tranquility or utter chaos to be determined by the pressure applied to a length of string by a pudgy, saliva-soaked finger. According to reports, the individual diners, couples, and groups of friends seated within shrieking distance of Pollen’s table appeared oblivious to the complete breakdown of social order …

Parents Say There’s One Thing Worse Than Having Son Diagnosed With Terminal Cancer

After their son, Kirk II, was diagnosed with liver cancer and told he had only six months to live, Laurie and Kirk Sr. claim that the woman who previously had left their son at the altar ran — not walked — to tie the knot this time.

“I believe Star was seeing dollar signs with my dying son. She married him for his life insurance money,” claims Laurie. “Star is manipulative, and she is out for Star … Star has physically, emotionally and financially destroyed my son.”

Star admits she has cheated on Kirk twice and that she hit him once, but she vehemently denies that she’s after his money. “Kirk’s family has judged me since day one,” says Star, who says she wishes they would back off. “They make me out to be this evil person.”

Why is Kirk II eager to save his marriage? Can it even be saved? Should his parents butt out? Watch more from Friday’s episode of Dr. Phil here.

The One Thing You Must Do to Stop Enabling a Drug Abuser

In the video above, Dr. Phil shares his message for a mom, Constance, whose 29-year-old daughter, Candice, admits to using drugs on a regular basis. But it’s really a wake-up call for anyone who could be enabling a drug abuser.

Are You Enabling An Addict? 11 Questions To Ask

“Let’s be honest with each other because I really want to make a change in her life: You’re giving her money, and you know damn well she’s going to spend it on drugs,” Dr. Phil tells Constance, referring to Candice, who is unemployed and lives with her mother.

Dr. Phil continues, “Here’s a very simple solution: You don’t give a drug addict cash. I don’t care if they say, ‘My hair is on fire, I need an extinguisher.’ You don’t give a drug addict cash.”

Watch more of this mother/daughter struggle on Monday’s episode of Dr. Phil, called “My Daughter Is A Beautiful, Intelligent, Talented, Egomaniacal, Drug-Addicted Liar and Thief.”

Chris Fox

Genre: Science Fiction

WARNING: May Contain Werewolves. A pyramid predating all known cultures appears without warning. Its discovery throws into question everything we know about the origins of mankind. Inside lies incredible technology, proof of a culture far more advanced than our own. Something dark lurks within, eager to resume a war as old as mankind. When it is unleashed it heralds the end of our species’ reign. A plague of werewolves spreads across the world. A sunspot larger than anything in recorded history begins to grow. Yet both pale in comparison to the true threat, the evil the werewolves were created to fight. "It's like Indiana Jones went through the Stargate and ended up in Aliens versus Predator." – One of the author's totally biased friends.

Becky Jordan has had it with relationships. From now on her time and dedication won’t be lavished on her latest Mr. Wrong—or, worse, Mr. Hell-No!—just the dream travel job which has unexpectedly leapt into her lap. Finally, life is looking great. Unfortunately, not as great as her sizzling-hot, take-charge new boss. Matt Frobisher is everything she doesn't want him to be, but if anyone thinks she'll risk her career on a workplace fling they can think again. No amount of Superman behaviour from him will make her roll over and play Lois. At least, that's what her head says. Her heart, however, doesn't do logical. In desperation she finds herself a Mr. Distraction, one with no strings and plenty of appeal. But Mr. Distraction also comes with unforeseen complications. Kryptonite complications, like Becky’s sister. And when she shows up there’s only one sure thing: not even Superman can prevent the Disaster Fest that’s about to blow Becky’s life apart. Here’s the One Thing Dermatologists Wish You Would Stop Doing

By Renee Jacques, Allure

2015-09-01-1441141910-7670426-skincareadvice.jpg
(Photo: Delphine Achard/WWD)

You follow your skin-care routine with religious dedication but still don’t have the Neutrogena-commercial-perfect complexion of your dreams. That could be because you’re still making one of the mistakes dermatologists dread most. We asked eight of the top derms in the country to let us in on the one thing they wish their patients would stop doing when it comes to caring for their skin. And some of their answers might surprise you.

Being lazy about cleansing. “Many patients don’t make it a habit to cleanse twice a day and think they can get by with just rinsing their faces in the morning and that they can get away with sleeping with their makeup on. I always advise thorough, gentle cleansing both in the morning and evening. I particularly like wipe-off cleansers, such as Avène Micellar Lotion Cleanser and Make-up Remover. “–Jeanette Graf, a clinical assistant professor of dermatology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City

Using so many different products. “I wish patients would stop overdoing it. Dedication to one or two products with proven efficacy is much better than trying to use everything. Using too many products often leads to irritation and can potentially cause ingredients to inactivate, since certain ones are not meant to be combined. A good morning antioxidant, along with sunscreen and an evening retinoid, is a great place to start. If you consistently stick to this simple regimen, you will see a difference in your skin. Just give it a few weeks.” –Joshua Zeichner, an assistant professor in the dermatology department at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City

Picking your pimples. “It’s a surefire way to take something from minor to major. So often we see benign things that, if left alone, would heal and leave only minimal scarring, if anything. When you pick, or squeeze, or scratch, you introduce bacteria. Suddenly the issues multiply, and infection and other issues become part of the picture. And it’s always a shame to have to deal with completely avoidable problems.” —Ranella Hirsch, a dermatologist in Boston who serves on the editorial board of Dermatology Times

Overwashing your face. “Squeaky-clean skin is overcleansed, meaning it’s stripped of its priceless lipids. Your skin should feel supple, not like plastic. Use gentle cleansers with a low lather for the healthiest skin barrier.” –Ellen Marmur, an associate clinical professor in the department of dermatology and the department of genetics and genomic research at the Mount Sinai Medical Center

Overdoing it with a cleansing brush. “For people who have sensitive skin, cleansing brushes can cause irritation. I’m not a fan of the majority of them, unless you have very oily, thick sebaceous skin.” –Jason Emer, a cosmetic dermatologist and aesthetic surgeon in Mountain View, California

Skipping conditioner (yes, this relates to your skin). “Your scalp is skin, and many people forget that. Many thin or oily-haired women skip conditioner because of concerns that it will weigh down their hair. Big mistake. That’s like skipping moisturizer on your skin. Scalp nourishment is critical to beautiful hair.” —Francesca Fusco, an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and assistant attending dermatologist at Mount Sinai

Exfoliating the wrong way. “Patients have in their heads that they need to exfoliate to have healthy skin. Unfortunately, that’s only one part of the process of getting soft, supple skin. After exfoliating chemically [with a peel] or physically [with a scrub], it’s critical to apply a moisturizer to seal and heal the skin barrier. Keeping the skin barrier well-hydrated not only improves the feel and look of skin but it also feeds back to improve the way the skin cells turn over. In an ideal world, healthy skin exfoliates on its own. So as your skin becomes healthier, you need to exfoliate less often.” –Heidi Waldorf, an associate clinical professor of dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

Being rough with your skin. “I watch patients touch and point to areas of concern on their face, and I’m often taken aback at how rough they are on their skin when they touch it. They rub hard and pick and pull, rather than gently patting it. I see the marks left behind from picking, and I see the skin stretched for no reason in directions it doesn’t necessarily naturally move. Part of the problem may be magnified mirrors that make everything seem bigger and closer and can distort the way the skin looks and how much pressure is safe to apply. I’d love for everyone to be more thoughtful and gentle when touching their skin.” –Doris Day, a clinical associate professor of dermatology at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City

The Touching Thing This 5-Year-Old Did After Losing Her Dad To Cancer

A Wisconsin preschooler celebrated her fifth birthday with a special tribute to her father, who died of cancer.

Olesia Clark was 2 years old when her dad Kyle passed away in December 2012 after a 17-month battle with brain cancer, her mom Elizabeth told The Huffington Post.

“Olesia and Kyle were very close,” Clark said. “They spent a lot of time hanging out, going for long walks and reading books. He even took her to the gym with him where he worked part-time where she would sit behind the desk with him to greet clients.”

Around the time school ended last year, Olesia asked her mom if she could cut her hair and give it to kids who have cancer. When Clark asked her daughter why she wanted to do that, “she said that a friend from her class had done it and that she thought it was a really good thing to do,” the mom said.

As Olesia and her mom were starting to plan her fifth birthday party, they decided that would be the perfect time to make the hair donation. On July 18, Clark’s stylist friend Tracie came to their house, and cut off 12 inches of Olesia’s hair to donate to Wigs for Kids.

Though the little girl “seemed a little nervous,” her mom said Olesia’s face “lit up” in excitement when Tracie handed her the freshly cut ponytail. ”It was a really hot and humid day so when her new cut and style was complete, she kept running her fingers through it telling me that it felt ‘so cool.'” Clark said.

Olesia then celebrated her fifth birthday with friends and family, but instead of opening traditional birthday gifts she asked guests to make donations to the Aurora Health Care Foundation to support neuro-oncology research at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center.

The donations in lieu of presents idea was a suggestion from Olesia’s mom. “I asked her, ‘Would you like to ask for birthday gifts for your birthday like you do every year or since you are going to be donating your hair, would you also like to ask your friends to make donations to help people like your daddy instead of bringing gifts?'” Clark told HuffPost. “Without hesitation, her response was, ‘I want to help people like my daddy!'”

Clark said Olesia still cherishes her memories of her father. “The thing that she remembers most about him is how much fun they used to have together,” the mom said. “He was a really funny guy and she remembers that he was really funny and made her smile a lot, even when he was in the hospital.”

The mom also believes Olesia’s selflessness is making her dad very proud. “He was always proud of her, from the time she took her first breath until the time he took his last. There is not a doubt in my mind that he’s up there in Heaven, smiling down on her with pride at this very moment,” she said.

Clark hopes her family’s story will raise awareness and inspire people to donate to brain cancer research. She also hopes Olesia can inspire other people who have lost loved ones to cancer to get their children involved in the cause.

“Olesia went through a lot when her dad died and still struggles with the aftermath of losing a parent. Making the decisions to cut her hair and then to collect donations instead of birthday presents gave her a new sense of healing from her experiences,” the mom said. “It opened up an opportunity for her to talk about her dad and help others in the process. And she didn’t miss the presents at all — in fact, she still looks for donation notifications in the mail every day in hopes that more people are giving.”

The One Thing You Need to Get Over a Painful Breakup

Breakups can be agonizing. You miss your ex, you feel lonely, being single is a significant change, and you’re feeling bitter, angry, and hopeless in relationships. A breakup is a loss and it can be devastating.

I’ve had my share of difficult breakups for sure. When I was inexperienced in heartbreaks, I handled them horribly — indulged in vices, became preoccupied with my ex, and hoped for (a next to impossible) reconciliation. After realizing I was losing a lot of my time to someone who didn’t want anything to do with me, I eventually was able to find the freedom and beauty in moving on. Which led me to the golden rule of healing: Focus on yourself! This is the one thing you need for a healthy recovery.

In love and life, you can’t breakup with yourself, so your best investment of time will always be you. Take all of the attention, time and interest devoted to your ex and bring it back home to you. This can be an emotionally vulnerable time and you must nurture yourself until you are feeling stronger again. (You are likely to end up feeling even stronger than before!)

I like to think of the healing process as cocooning and emerging as a butterfly! Here are some suggestions to get you through:

Improve your health. Taking care of your bod can give you better energy, think clearer, boost mood, relieve stress and many other benefits. Some ways of accomplishing that include getting more sleep, developing your exercise habits, and eating natural foods.

Redecorate your home or bedroom. Make it yours! Out with the old and in with the new. Purging feels great — so do that too! Get familiar with donating items to charity, or selling at pawn shops, eBay, consignment and Craigslist. I have black-or-white rules in the “breakup purge” process and it goes like this:

Items belonging to the ex: donate or sell.
Gifts from the ex: donate or sell.
That sweater you wore on your first date that always reminds you of him/her: donate or sell.

This concept takes the emotion out of the object, and makes space for better things (and relationships) to come your way.

Learn something new to enrich your life. Take a class, begin a new hobby or explore something you’ve always been interested in. When I was diet coaching, my most successful clients kept themselves busy to avoid their fixations. The short-term goal is distraction to take your mind off of things. The benefit of having a constructive distraction is that you are able to cultivate your personal growth in the long term, helping you become stronger, smarter and happier.

Nurture other relationships. Your boyfriend wasn’t the only relationship in your life. Maybe you’re not feeling successful with that particular relationship but think of how many successful relationships you do have or could have. Reap what you sow: develop the positive relationships and you will attract more positive relationships!

Career. I live in New York City and this is pretty much the go-to diversion. When a relationship ends, people tend to find themselves with more time or concentration to develop their careers, find new jobs, change industries, start businesses and more!

10 Reasons Why Having Your Campaign Poster Photo-Shopped Is A Good Thing

It’s election time in Canada and the Liberal Party of Canada has a new look for their campaign posters. They’ve been getting a lot of attention, particularly this modification of the candidate for Quebec’s LaSalle-Émard-Verdun riding’s poster, David Lametti.

2015-08-19-1439996483-8493487-LamettiGowron.PNG

Yup, that’s the Klingon leader Gowron, the son of M’Rel and the leader of the Klingon Empire. Quite the comparison!

Lametti’s been having fun with the attention this has been getting (the man who first created the poster even has a twitter handle: @liberalgowron), and so I thought I’d ask him, in the vein of David Letterman, to give us his Top 10 Reasons Why Having Your Campaign Poster Photo-Shopped is a Good thing. Here are his answers:

10. The photo-shopped posters create dialogue. People are talking about our posters, and the Liberals invite debate, discussion and dialogue.

9. People are more creative with our posters than with the other parties. Our posters are not bland, they stand out. With that we get people who will either love them or hate them, and people are at least being creative and interactive with the liberal posters, instead of just ignoring them like the NDP or Conservative ones.

8. The humour decreases the intensity of the poster. Some people have commented that the posters look too intense. I don’t agree with that, but having some fun with them certainly balances that out.

7. Having more and better hair than I’ve had before.

6. Free publicity. Thanks @liberalgowron

5. It shows that the Liberal team has a sense of humour. We take this in stride and laugh about it.

4. Ups Canada’s potential for a strategic alliance with the Romulans.

3. My former students would say I’m a tough marker but at least I’m not a Klingon.

2. Comic con’s been calling.

1. I’d still vote for a Klingon over Prime Minister Harper.

Maybe he’ll live long and prosper.

10 Women Reveal The Craziest Thing Their Mothers-In-Law Ever Did

We can’t all be blessed with in-laws who feel like family instantly. Some of us get saddled with in-laws who feel more like foes.

Below, HuffPost readers who are now divorced share the most obnoxious thing their former mother-in-laws ever did. If reading their stories doesn’t make you feel better about your own in-laws, we don’t know what will.

1. She wanted her son to have a less ambitious wife.

“I was pretty, young, smart and accomplished. She hated me. She actually told me I shouldn’t discuss my dreams and ambitions with my husband because it might make him feel inferior. Yeah, doomed. The marriage didn’t last long, for a number of reasons, but she was one of them. ” – Tracy

2. She felt her son was “stolen” from her.

“I should have guessed how it would end when years prior, my now-ex MIL accosted me in a parking lot screaming ‘You stole my son.'” — Naomi

3. She held out hope that her son would marry the high school girlfriend.

“The first time I met my mother-in-law-to-be, she showed me a scrapbook of my then-fiancé’s childhood. It went up through high school and included a 5×7 photo of ‘Diane, the girl I wanted him to marry.’ She constantly made remarks about my housekeeping, the fact that I also worked outside the home and my general inability to care properly for my husband. She once drove two hours to bring him an umbrella (to his workplace, no less!) because she saw on the news that there was a chance of rain in our area and she was sure I hadn’t thought to give him one.” – Sherry

4. She played favorites.

“My former mother-in-law (aka The Dragon) made me feel from the start I wasn’t right for her son. She wasn’t supportive and even when we had our children, she only criticized my parenting skills and make us feel inadequate. She showed favoritism to my ex’s sister and her children (for instance, she was more generous to them at Christmastime). She made me feel alienated to the point of me not even having any relationship with her by the end of the marriage.” — Sarah

5. She treated her son like a child.

“She babied my husband while I was trying to build a strong family. That’s OK, though. It was eight years ago and he has been living with her since. She has to do his laundry.” — Jennifer

6. She tried to undermine the marriage.

“My in-laws tried their best to drive a wedge between us. For starters, they told my ex-husband at our wedding, ‘We’ll love you no matter what’ (i.e., marrying me). Every time I think of the crazy stuff she and his dad did to undermine us I have to laugh. At the time it was always so infuriating and it did create a lot of disharmony dealing with them. Luckily my ex and are still good friends and strong co-parents.” — Kristine

7. She stood in the way of their happiness.

“One day, I told my ex, ‘I don’t want to wait until she dies for us to be happy together, for you to be truly authentic and not take her side first before mine. I’m your goddamn wife yet you allow her to fill me with holes and you just stand there like a bystander.’ After 12 years of marriage, I finally had enough of my mother-in-law and left.” — Theia

8. She pressured them into marrying.

“His mother nagged at him constantly to get married and she pulled me aside and told me that if I didn’t marry him if he asked, then she would throw me out onto the streets. Next thing I knew, she had our wedding planned and I was married. I eventually had to transfer to keep my job and my husband and I separated with the intention of him following once he wrapped up some loose ends. Eventually we realized we were better as friends and parents to our children than together.” – Cari

9. She persuaded her son to get a divorce.

“My ex-mother-in-law obviously never thought I was good enough for her son. When we were separated we had planned to visit her and my father-in-law but we decided my husband would go and I would go visit my dad instead. When he left he wanted to get back together. When he came back he wanted a divorce. The only catalyst had to have been her.” — Robin

10. She constantly invited her son’s ex-girlfriend over.

”We lived with my in-laws for three months when we got out of the army and my husband was looking for work. During that time, my MIL had his ex-girlfriend over every day and made comments like ‘Tammy waited for you’ and ‘just think what life would be like with Tammy.’ Meanwhile, Tammy would parade around half-naked in front of him. Every time we visited she was there and the MIL and sisters-in-law would take pot shots at me. After a few years of this I left. So not worth it. — Mary

The Most Important Thing About Dating as a Single Parent

When it comes to dating as a single parent, there is one single most important thing to consider, above everything else:

Would you allow your potential partner to date your child?
Or in other words, is your potential partner good enough for your kids?

Time and time again, I see women and men dating people who don’t exactly cut it.

The man whose girlfriend treats him like a bank account and handyman.

The woman whose boyfriend treats her like a “sidepiece” and inconvenience.

The scenarios are the same for those in LGBT relationships– situations in which one person is settling for less than what they deserve.

Time and time again, I see divorced parents in relationships that aren’t the dream relationship they left their ex’s for.

I see people settling. I see people dating fill-in’s and warm bodies to keep the loneliness at bay.

But if I were to ask any of these people, “Would you let this person date your child? Is this the type of partner you would want your kid to have as an adult?”

The answer is usually hell– no!

But why do we want more for our kids but less than for ourselves?

Why is it okay for you to date beneath you but not your child?

How do you expect your child to honor him or herself in adult relationships, if you cannot do the same thing?

How can you expect your child to raise the bar high if your bar is already so low?

They came from you. If you aren’t good enough well then, your children may draw the conclusion that perhaps maybe they aren’t either.

This is why I am single. I cannot afford to set the bar low on my child’s watch. If I set the bar low, so will she.

Until I find someone who honors me the way I should be, I will go solo.

So when you go out there to date as a single parent remember this: your children are watching.

Set the bar high.

Success is a Relative Thing

There is no such thing as absolute success. Success only has meaning in relation to other things. For example, my book, God’s Debris, is ranked #8 on a recent Amazon.com best seller list in the Religious Studies – Psychology category. That doesn’t seem like much of a success until you notice who placed 9th. It’s all relative.

Suck it, number nine!

(And by that I mean not literally a “sucking” force but more of an illusion caused by your dead lips bending space-time.)

I’m a terrible winner.

Here’s One Major Thing You May Not Know About Mickey Mouse

Although you may have been completely unaware of her existence before this moment, Felicity (or possibly Amelia) Fieldmouse is the older sister of Mickey Mouse and mother to his nephews, Morty and Ferdie.

The character has only appeared in comic books, and therefore not too much is known about her backstory, but according to The Disney Wiki, she works as a journalist. Although it may just be wishful thinking coming from a person in media, that is also a job her brother has supposedly occupied.

Below is a further examination of what we know about the character, aided by clarification from her graphic creator, Paco Rodriguez, who responded to The Huffington Post’s inquiries.

Her first appearance supposedly came in 1932, where her relationship to Mickey was still unclear. Below is the English translation from an original Dutch version.

It seems that this Mrs. Fieldmouse, first name Amelia, may have not originally been intended to be Mickey’s sister — given the apparent age difference and Mickey’s use of her last name. Then again, maybe the two mice just didn’t get along all too well?

In any case, the character supposedly got a sort of reboot decades later when Egmont Publishing released a comic that involved her sons, with the company’s Lars Bergstrom editing. In these versions, her name was changed to Felicity, a character created by Disney writer Paul Halas, according to the graphic creator Rodriguez.

It was specifically said at least in this version, that Felicity was the older sister of Mickey Mouse.

Rodriguez explained that he, Bergstrom and Halas (HuffPost was unable to contact the latter two) only spent a week in Copenhagen, Denmark, fleshing out the comic series’ storyline. This series centered around a football team called the ”Riverside Rovers,” along with Mickey’s nephews and Goofy’s nephew, Gilbert.

There is a gap of knowledge here, considering that although the Disney Wiki claims the Amelia character is supposed to be the mother of Mickey’s nephews, it is unclear if this is explicitly stated in the comic. It is not entirely clear that Amelia and Felicity are definitely the same person and Rodriquez was also unsure.

HuffPost has reached out to both Egmont Publishing and Disney, but had yet to receive clarification by the time this article was published.

The updated character was apparently married to Frank Fieldmouse, giving Mickey a brother-in-law, as well.

This husband has yet to be officially depicted, even in a comic, but his last name is why the Felicity character apparently has a different surname than Mickey Mouse.

Once again, it is not entirely clear whether Felicity is the original Mrs. Fieldmouse or if Amelia is her mother-in-law or a similar relation. You can clearly tell that the characters look very dissimilar and the ages are different, but this may be due to a reboot.

Disney Wiki claims the reboot is the cause for the changed names and looks, but HuffPost was unable to independently verify. Unfortunately, the original designer from 1932, Floyd Gottfredson, died in 1986, while the Felicity designer, Rodriguez, was also unsure.

Maybe someday this mouse will get her own movie and we’ll learn more about her life in Mouseton, USA.

If she’s truly a journalist, we’d certainly love to publish her next scoop. Maybe she can get to the bottom of why her brother almost never wears a shirt or even join our Entertainment section in covering Donald Trump.

At the very least, it’d be nice if she could verify whether her name is Amelia or Felicity, or both, and if they are two separate people. Whatever would get the Pulitzer.

The secret to Nicole Carter’s success as a stepmom? The friendship she’s forged in the last three years with her partner’s ex-wife.

“I honestly believe that working on our friendship has helped make everything smoother,” Carter, a special education teacher who lives just outside Savannah, Georgia, told The Huffington Post recently. “All our kids get along so well, too. It’s not unusual to see us all sitting together talking at the ball field or going shopping together at the mall.”

Below, the proud mom shares more of her family’s story.

Hi Nicole! Please introduce us to your family.

Our family consists of seven people. My partner Josh has two kids from his first marriage: his daughter Bria is 12 and his son Brady is 7. I have two sons from my first marriage: Dawson is 9 and Braden is 7. Josh and I have a 3-month old daughter together named Tenley.

How long have you and Josh been together?

We’ve been together for almost three years. The funny thing is, we actually dated for a while in high school then reconnected later. At first I was really nervous about dating someone with children from a previous marriage — not only are you seeking approval from his children but from their mother, too. Being a mom myself I have always made my children my main priority and knew even though I hadn’t given birth to his two kid, they would be my priority as well.

You mentioned that you’re very close to your husband’s ex-wife Courtney. How did that relationship evolve?

Courtney and I have known each other since high school actually but we weren’t really friends then. We’ve become such good friends today because of the kids. Braden and Brady are both the same age so we always get them on the same sports teams. I think it’s benefited all of our children to be close. If I ever need help with anything with my kids, she’s there and vice versa. We show up for each other. It really does make a world of difference to have her support. As parents, we’re all on the same page when it comes to discipline and structure. One thing Courtney and I both agree on and live by is the idea that these kids didn’t ask for divorced parents. We did that all on our own. Now we are making that the best situation possible for them.

What challenges have you faced as a family in these last three years? What solutions have you come up with as parents?
One of the hardest things is not having everyone together enough. Every time we seem to get in the groove of things and get a good routine going it’s time for someone to leave. We try to spend as much time together as a family but we also try to spend individual time with each of our children. This way, each child gets one-on-one time with his or her parent. You have to make an effort to ensure each child knows how important they are and that they matter equally.

What’s the best thing about being part of a blended family?
The best thing is getting to see not just your own children grow up but your bonus babies grow up as well. Making memories with all the kids makes our efforts as parents worthwhile. We don’t look at anyone as “step” anything. I really can’t stand the words stepparent or stepchild. We have bonus family members and I would not change that for the world.

What advice do you have for other blended families who are struggling to get along?
The relationship you have with the exes makes a huge difference. I think that if you can create a friendship with your children’s stepparent or parent, then you should. Do not get caught up in the past and hold anything against a person. You all have one priority and that’s to provide the children with a happy, loving, safe home. Being able to co-parent like adults has given us the opportunity to enjoy all the special moments in each one of our children’s lives. Does that bond happen overnight? No, but as long as you all try to get on the same page, there’s no reason it can’t happen.

One Thing You Didn’t Notice In ‘Game Of Thrones’ Makes That Sansa Scene Way Worse

And we all thought Jon Snow knew nothing.

There has been a lot said about Sansa Stark’s horrifying scene with Ramsay Snow in Season 5 of “Game of Thrones.” Some fans have outright threatened to stop watching the show because of it while others, including the actors, have defended the scene’s inclusion. Well, now it turns out there’s one thing about it you may have missed that makes it even worse.

Theon is wearing the same outfit Robb Stark had on at the Red Wedding.

Image via Vanity Fair/HBO

Whaaaaaaattttt????? Yup.

Tumblr user the-kings-hand actually noticed a similarity between the outfits after the episode aired, which you can see below. But could this actually be true?

You bet. Sure as R’hllor is the Lord of Light.

Sansa Stark herself — actress Sophie Turner — confirmed the Easter egg at the “Game of Thrones” Comic-Con panel on Friday.

“If anyone noticed, it was Robb Stark’s costume. Just FYI. Just to make it that little bit more brutal,” said Turner.

Yeah, “more brutal.” What happened to not showing Stannis’ death because it was too “gratuitous,” huh? What happened to that?!

Here’s another look at the outfits side by side:

Wow. Those Boltons are messed up. But you do have to admit they have great fashion sense.

The North remembers… you were a snazzy dresser, Robb.

Rihanna’s New Video for “BBHMM” Is the Scariest Thing You’ll Watch Today

rihanna-bbhmm[1]

After teasing her new music video for “Bitch Better Have My Money” at Sunday night’s BET Awards, Rihanna finally released the complete cinematic seven-minute clip this morning. Directed by Megaforce, the short horror film depicts Rihanna and her posse acting out a wild revenge plot on the wife of RiRi’s accountant who ran off with her money. Watch carefully and you’ll notice the video is replete with references to cult films such as Oldboy (that Goyard trunk in the first shot is just as haunting), Carrie, and even Weekend at Bernie’s. Needless to say, the video is NSFW because, really, would Bad Gal RiRi have it any other way?

The Surprising Thing That Could Be Making You Fat And Sick

It’s the public health crisis that rivals obesity and smoking, affecting more than 25 percent of the U.S. population, and killing thousands in the blink of an eye: sleep deprivation. It can devastate your body, compromise your mind and immune system, and lead to diabetes, depression and even death.

According to Liz Vaccariello, editor-in-chief of Reader’s Digest, not enough sleep has potentially devastating consequences. “The stats are crystal clear, and it’s very disturbing. The CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] in 20111, declared sleep deprivation a public health crisis,” explains Vaccariello, whose magazine recently profiled the topic in an articled called “Sounding the Alarm on Sleep.” One quarter of all transportation accidents in the U.S. are linked to sleep deprivation, she points out.

Aside from sleep deprivation leading more than 1,500 transportation-related deaths annually, it can also cause major health issues. “It can make you sick, fat and stupid,” Vaccariello tells The Doctors in the video above. Without proper rest, there can be an increased risk of depression, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and even early death, she explains. Moreover, without adequate sleep, there are changes in our brain chemistry, hormones and metabolism that affect our satiety and physiology. One study showed that people who get two hours less sleep a night than they should are more likely to gain weight. Studies also show that memory, concentration, judgment and decision making can all be affected by lack of sleep.

The good news is that getting enough rest can have an immediate and positive impact on your health. “If I [get a good night’s sleep] tonight, tomorrow is going to be a better day,” points out family medicine physician Dr. Rachael Ross.

Get tips for a better night’s sleep here.

Dear God, Hollywood Reporter, ‘Stromo’ Is Not Going To Be A Thing

On Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter tried to make “stromo” happen, with an article about “straight white male stars going gay (ish).” After chucking their laptops into the sea, HuffPost Entertainment editors Matthew Jacobs and Lauren Duca got new laptops so that they could discuss what this means for society.

Lauren: Hey, Matt! I just wanted to pass along a quick congrats to you and all gay men. According to The Hollywood Reporter, we are the lucky witnesses to the rise of the stromo — a(n offensive) term referring to straight actors catering to gay audiences (which sounds a lot like something a lax bro would make up in the late ’90s). Apparently, the evidence of the stromo is that the vagina-appreciating likes of Channing Tatum and Chris Hemsworth are totally cool with gay men liking them. Isn’t that great? Y’all used to be stuck with Barbara Streisand and, I don’t know, Liza Minnelli, but now it is totally fine to like straight men, too! Are you writing a thank-you note to THR as we speak or … ?

880channing

Matt: Since THR’s New York offices are in the same building as HuffPost’s, I’ve already hand-delivered flowers. I wanted to express gratitude for validating all the deep V-necks I own (thanks for making that okay, Adam Levine!) and for reminding us that Robert Pattinson could have filed a lawsuit all those times the media made him the subject of a “bromance.” THR knows those guys are the true trendsetters, paving the way for us gays to feel comfortable in our own skin.

Lauren, I’m not sure if you and I should continue debating the merits of this trend piece, if one is generous enough to give it such a label, or if we should just rank the most clueless quotes about what its sources claim as progress. (My favorite: “Straight men now want to be sex objects — and what better way to get objectified than by other penised human beings?”) In truth, the idea that straight men in Hollywood are now embracing gay audiences isn’t offensive, and there are thoughtful arguments to be made about how that’s evolved in recent years. But Nick Jonas taking his shirt off at a gay bar and James Franco being sexually fluid “up to the point of intercourse” does not give them some amalgam of hetero- and homosexuality. That’s not how that works, but I’m not sure the author of this piece understands that. Welcome to 2015, where the “stromo” is the true freedom fighter!

Lauren: “Penised human beings” is just how I refer to all men all the time anyway, so that didn’t really stand out to me. But what did is this insistence on a microscopically stereotypical understanding of gay men including, but not limited to, the phrase “butts, gym-molded or otherwise.” As if choosing to go to SoulCycle and, according to this piece, the nail salon is some metric of sexuality. There are scenes featuring Stanford Blatch in “Sex and the City” that are less mind-numbingly ignorant than that.

The idea that we would need to coin a phrase, and that that phrase would combine the words “straight” and “homo” (unless it stands for straight FOMO, which, I guess, also works?), is gross. It’s totally missing any conception of gender fluidity and assuming that being gay requires a small arsenal of V-necks. (Also, LOL, does Merle Ginsberg think it’s chill for her to write this because she was a judge on “Drag Race”?)

880nick

Matt: Right, and the only straight allies worth mentioning are white, well-sculpted men anyway. Thank goodness we have someone to highlight the bravery of pretending to be gay on a movie set for a few months or riding on a float at a pride parade or, you know, just generally being willing to associate with the LGBT population. But what about the “young” moviegoers? Channing Tatum better put in overtime on “harder workouts” to catch their attention, or I’m afraid they’ll send America right back to the ’50s with their homophobia. Praise be to straight men in Hollywood for advancing LGBT rights!

In case the Internet commenters want to attack me for implicating Chan-Man and Mr. Jonas in my vitriol, just take a step back. I’m not criticizing any of the celebrities mentioned in the article — their open-mindedness is nothing if not a step forward, even if there’s an element of slight pandering at times. But the media must be held responsible for how we see celebrities, and employing a crass portmanteau like “stromo” misplaces the progress that both Hollywood and larger society have made. Tatum does not need a round of applause for being polite to his gay fans, and we do not need trend pieces that imply there is profitability in being an LGBT ally. If that is considered progress, then it is a phony, reductive version of it. But what do I know? I’ll just keep sending photos of my chiseled eyebrows to Ryan Gosling’s fan-mail address in hopes he’ll switch teams. This article makes all my dreams seem more plausible!

Lauren: Yeah, no shade to all the beautiful, famous white men and their eight-packs mentioned here, but it’s insulting to discuss these shifting images as though they are solely geared at taking advantage of an LGBT audience for profit. As if the only reason to be an ally is limited to selling tickets specifically to those gay men that shave their chests. Acceptance is great, but what THR is describing here is more like “non-homophobic pandering.”

Maybe, if we decide not to burn this article to the ground and then scatter the ashes in the sewer, there’s a tiny nugget of something good buried under the trash attempt to make “stromo” happen? Straight cis gods like Channing Tatum definitely don’t need praise for their trailblazing “gayish” (also Ginsberg’s word) appeal, but maybe this kind of marketing, however cynical, is a sign we’re moving away from heteronormative standards.

Matt: It surely is, for better or worse, and there’s no doubt that celebrities can do wonders for steering cultural discussions in progressive directions. I want to see someone think through that transition carefully and not rely on formulaic ideas of gay men’s bodies to emphasize its relevance. Also, can we stop with the Twitter-hopeful buzzwords? The “dadbod” moment was cute, but “stromo” is a bit desperate, even before we weigh its tactfulness. The next time someone wants to discuss this, let’s remember that a cute new word does not expand the spectrum of sexual identity, just as “big-lipped” Eddie Redmayne’s willingness to play a transgender character is not a substitute for the actual advancements needed within that community. But hey, this is just a one-off article, and we can at least give it credit for attempting to celebrate the strides we’ve made. Now, off to yoga!

White Girl Tries To Sell Drugs To Cops, Proves White Privilege Is A Thing

What does a white girl gotta do to get arrested around here??

Comedian Jessie Kahnweiler wanted to know if she would get preferential treatment from the police simply for being a white woman. The results are hilarious — and frightening.

Kahnweiler pretty brilliantly shows how a funny, bubbly white girl can get away with a lot more things around police than, say, a black or hispanic person might be able to.

In one particularly crazy moment, Kahnweiler tries to sell two officers her leftover depression medication. They tell her she’d be committing a crime, and then let her go on her merry way when she apologizes and claims ignorance. So if you commit a crime, just say sorry and feign ignorance? Cool, got it.

That’s the lesson here, non-white people. When police stop you for doing nothing at all, just apologize for being a law-abiding citizen.

SO SIMPLE!

Carmen Ejogo Urges America To ‘Do The Right Thing’ On Marriage Equality

Carmen Ejogo and Susan Sarandon are the latest celebrities to add their voice to LGBT advocacy group Lambda Legal‘s campaign for marriage equality.

Ejogo, who starred as Coretta Scott King in “Selma,” said in a video for the group’s #IDo campaign that her support for LGBT rights traces its roots in her Nigerian-Scottish heritage.

“I haven’t fully [fit] into the black community, the white community, I’ve had to sort of find my space. And I think for that reason I have a lot of empathy for anyone that’s going through the same kind of desire for identity approval in the mainstream,” she said. “If we do the right thing in terms of marriage equality, there may be other nations that could follow suit. And that’s for the betterment of all of us.”

Watch Ejogo’s video above.

Last month, Julianne Moore recorded a video for the campaign detailing the reasons why the fight for LGBT rights doesn’t end with marriage equality.

Lambda Legal’s board co-chair, Karen Dixon, blogged for HuffPost earlier this year announcing that she and her wife, Nan Schaffer, would match up to $ 1 million in donations to the #IDo campaign. The organization announced Thursday that it had met the $ 1 million mark.

It turns out that the Grand Hustle rapper has scrapped six months of work on a new album and also claims that “the ‘cool” thing is to hate on her.

“It’s really tough to stick by someone when the ‘cool’ thing is to hate on them. thanks to everyone who made the choice to stand by me,” she tweeted early Friday morning (June 12).

Breast-Milk Facials Are Now a Thing

Human breast milk from a stranger, on your face? Sounds gross. Or at the very least, gimmicky.

But hey, we reasoned: We’re progressive. Plus, the number one tip for clearing up baby acne is to dab on a little “liquid gold,” as new mothers call it.

At Mud Facial Bar, we ordered the “Breathe” facial ($ 40) with a breast-milk add-on ($ 10) and lay back in the aesthetician’s chair with an open mind.

Here’s what happened next.

11 Reasons There’s No Such Thing As A ‘Failed Marriage’

no such thing

There’s a quote from novelist Victoria Holt that’s particularly well-suited to describe the divorce experience. “Never regret,” she wrote. “If it’s good, it’s wonderful. If it’s bad, it’s experience.”

Regardless of how you feel about your former marriage, it undoubtedly taught you something about life and who you are as a person. Below, HuffPost Divorce bloggers and readers share the reasons they have no regrets about saying “I do,” even if they eventually divorced.

1. You may have great kids to show for it.
“I have never, not once looked back and felt any regret in marrying my ex. Because of that marriage, three beautiful lives were born. I love my three daughters, not just because they are my children, but because of who they are as individuals: The beautiful tall quiet introvert, the freak-flag flying feminist, and my little cheerleader who aspires to be Kim Kardashian. They are only half mine, the other half is him -– and I would not want to change a single thing about them.” –Jennifer Gardella

2. Looking back, the relationship may have been what you needed, when you needed it.
carol
“When I married my first husband I was grieving the loss of my father a year prior. I was in a very sad and unhappy place. Looking back now, I know that I was looking to recreate my sense of family. Sure, it’s not the best reason to get married, but in that moment in time, the family I created with my ex-husband essentially sheltered me while I developed the strength to thrive as an adult.” Carol Schaffer

3. You may no longer be spouses, but nothing can break the bond you share as parents.
“When we got married it was with the idea of having a big family. Having four children under three in less than three years (we had twins!) was simultaneously wonderful and terribly difficult. I worked days and my ex-husband worked nights. We operated in a haze, neither of us getting anywhere near enough sleep. Those years taught us the value of teamwork. Our kids are now all in elementary school and luckily that teamwork we learned in our kids’ early years has transferred into a great co-parenting relationship. No one in the world gets how wonderful and terribly difficult it was and still is to have these four kiddos but the two of us. I’m thankful we learned how to put ourselves aside and work together effectively for our kids.” –Kasey Ferris

4. When things were good, they were really good.
“My ex and I traveled the world, lived in some incredibly exotic places and raised two wonderful children at the same time. How could I regret anything? I guess the only thing I regret is how it ended.” –Caroline Sarah Keller

5. More likely than not, marriage is an essential part of your life story.
beth cone kramer
“I don’t regret marrying my ex-husband because no matter how a relationship plays out, the experience is part of the montage of your life, especially when you have kids. As two people who traversed the landscape of dating, engagement, wedding, pregnancy, childbirth, and the challenges of raising toddlers, we’ll forever be linked. I have never considered my marriage to be a failure, despite ending in divorce. I will always see my marriage to my ex-husband as a connection that brought two inspiring, wonderful young women into the world and for that, I have absolutely no regrets.” –Beth Cone Kramer

6. Your kids wouldn’t be who they are if not for your ex.
“I always say I could have had these three kids with anyone, since they look so much like my side of the family, but that’s not true. My family has always been talented –- music, painting, writing –- and although I have some of those talents, I was never driven to succeed with any of them. My children have those talents in abundance, plus something I never had: ambition. They got that entirely from their mother. She is tenacious as a pit bull and usually gets whatever it is she goes after. (I pity the poor customer rep on the phone that doesn’t have the right answer for her!) She earned both a bachelor and master’s degree while working full-time.” –Al Deluise

7. You may have gained some awesome in-laws.
“If I hadn’t married, I would have never had began a friendship with my dear, wonderful sister-in-law. Her brother and I might have gotten a divorce, but my friendship with her has never changed.” –Rochelle Winston Davies

8. Marriage — and divorce — teach lessons in forgiveness.
“At the time, I married a man who I loved unconditionally — I thought of him as my one true love. The marriage didn’t end well but I persevered and I learned how to forgive when something seems unforgivable. I wouldn’t be the person I am today had I not experienced marriage and divorce.” –Stephanie Cobb Gilmore

9. The marriage may have ended, but your friendship with your ex can absolutely live on.
gregory chambers
“I have no regrets because even through we separated, my ex Malissa is still my best friend. We can laugh and enjoy each other’s company. I feel fortunate that we’ve maintained a mutual respect for each other and what we shared. When I think of my marriage, I think of the growth that I have attained through my union with Malissa. I have learned that love cannot be cavalier; you have to put constant effort into courtship and appreciation. To be frank about it, my marriage may not have had the plot line that most people hope for, but I believe it turned out the way that it was supposed to in the end.” –Gregory Chambers

10. You aren’t afraid to live life to the fullest.
“I used to regret a lot about my marriage but I am learning to move beyond those things. I have no regrets about having kids and jumping feet first and uninhibited into life as a couple with another person; moving to new places, buying homes; trying new jobs; quitting jobs, having parties with friends, doing yard work. The list goes on and on. The more philosophical answer is that I don’t regret my marriage because I was living my life.” –Chris Burcher

Faux Fur: Better Than the Real Thing?

It was fake. Anyone with passing knowledge of McCartney’s politics is aware that she considers real fur — and leather, for that matter — anathema. And indeed the fuzzy vests, coats and hats in the pre-fall collection were tagged with patches that read “Fur Free Fur.”
The designer’s decision to put product out there that even imitated fur didn’t come lightly. “We have been looking at fake furs for years, but never felt it was the right message for us to promote the look of fur,” says McCartney. “But moreover, the material and fabrics that we kept seeing as a substitute were just not great nor inspiring enough to really be able to

The One Thing You Must Do Before You Can Find True Love

If you don’t have what you truly want in a relationship, then you are right, something is seriously wrong. But here’s the important part: What is wrong is not you. I repeat, the problem is not you. You are not a bad person. You are not failing to get a wonderfully rewarding relationship because you are not worthy of it. In fact, I believe, to the absolute core of my soul, that you are about to discover a huge secret, in fact, I believe it is the best-kept secret in your life: YOU. This secret is not only being hidden from the people you see every day, bond with or dream of marrying, it is being kept from you.

The second thing I know for absolute, drop-dead certain is that you are not thinking right or playing the game well; otherwise, you would have what you want. You are a deserving and quality potential relationship partner, but you apparently don’t know how to get in the game or play the game once you do.

And yes, it is a game. Somehow or another, people have decided that looking for love is some hugely serious process that must be approached with reverence and decorum. I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised since seriousness is usually associated with desperate situations and “desperation” is a word I often hear from both men and women regarding their love lives. I agree that selecting a life partner and making the decision to walk down the aisle is a decision of gravity and deserves the utmost in contemplation, prayer and consideration. But, the process that gets you there is a game and a game that has to be played loose and fun if you want to win. You’ve got to play the game without sweaty palms, or you will never get what you are looking for.

Saying that dating and relating is, at least in the beginning, a game does not mean that it is trivial or frivolous. Make no mistake; I’m talking about making a major change in your life, specifically your love life. It’s time to be a winner. It’s time to start being a bride instead of a bridesmaid.

Think about it, the problem has to be something besides you. Don’t you know women who are, in your humble opinion, not as interesting as you, not as smart as you, not as loving and caring and giving as you, not as cute or attractive as you, but yet they have a great relationship partner while you sit at home talking to your houseplants? Why? Maybe they just got blind lucky, but I’m betting they have what they want and what you wish you had and because they know how to play the game better than you do.

I know that there are also women out there that you just love to hate, because they seem to have it all going on. They’re young, fit, stick-thin, energetic and cute. You’re thinking, “How do I compete with that?” You stand in your bathroom looking in the mirror and saying, “Look at my hair! Look at my hips! I’ve got legs like stumps! My eyes are too far apart! This is the genetic betrayal that is my legacy! I am destined to die alone! Well, snap out of it! I can promise you that you don’t want or need to be some beauty-queen model that spends her days on the runway. She may very well be home starving or puking up the dinner she just pigged out on, looking in the mirror and saying the very same things you say or worse. Besides, I can’t tell you how many men I’ve heard look at those women and say, “Good grief! I’ve seen more meat on antlers! She needs to spend a little more time at the buffet.”

If you’re sitting at home dogging on yourself with an endless list of self-critical put-downs, then I guarantee that other people, including men, are going to find it very difficult to see value in you because you are hiding it so well. You’re going to have to understand yourself and know yourself — and, as strange as it sounds, before he ever falls in love with you, you are going to have to fall in love with you.

To get where you want to go, you’re going to have to rewrite the script of your life and make yourself the star. And, you have to define who you want to be your leading man. Then you’ll know exactly who you are and what you’re looking for. No more trying to be all things to all people. No more trying to guess what some man wants and struggling to morph yourself into it. You are going to be the best you can be, rather than somebody you are not, and I promise that will be more than enough to create the love you want.

Charlize Theron: ‘Girls Need To Know That Being A Feminist Is A Good Thing’

Every time Charlize Theron opens her mouth we fall in love with her more and more.

In a recent interview for ELLE UK’s June 2015 issue, the Oscar-winning actress discussed her experiences with the wage gap in Hollywood and how she refuses to be objectified by filmmakers.

She stressed that women need to stand up for themselves when it comes to being paid fairly — starting with simply asking to be. “I have to give them credit because once I asked, they said yes. They did not fight it,” she said. “And maybe that’s the message: That we just need to put our foot down.”

She went on to define feminism and explain why it’s so integral to achieving pay equality. “This is a good time for us to bring this to a place of fairness, and girls need to know that being a feminist is a good thing,” Theron said. “It doesn’t mean that you hate men. It means equal rights. If you’re doing the same job, you should be compensated and treated in the same way.”

charlize theron

Theron has repeatedly stood up against the wage gap. After the massive Sony Pictures hack that revealed many actresses were paid much less than their male co-stars in recent films, Theron used the leaked information to ensure pay equality with her male co-star in her film “The Huntsman.”

“When I thought about the temperature out there — with finding out what Jennifer and Amy were being paid on a set with guy actors who are their counterparts… They’re just as good as any of the guys on there. Yeah, that p*ssed me off!” Theron told ELLE.

The 39-year-old actress also discussed what it’s like being objectified as a woman in Hollywood. “Someone thought it was a good idea to market almost the entire movie on me; objectifying me a little bit,” she said. “I got a lot of attention from it, but the problem was that, afterwards, it was like, ‘We want you to do that again. Can you just do that?’ And so I didn’t work for almost two years.”

You do you, Charlize.

Need to File for a Divorce!

Your Divorce Is the Best Thing That’s Ever Happened to You

I rarely meet anyone who regrets going through divorce. While to a divorced person they agree divorce is a miserable process that takes too long, hurts beyond description, and costs too much, the only thing they wish they could truly change was when it happened. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, those who have gotten divorced and lived to tell the tale wish it would have actually happened sooner.

Even those whose spouses made the decision for them emphatically share their divorce was one of the best things that happened to them. If you’re not quite there in your mind, I’m sure you’re wondering how that can possibly be. I assure you “a divorce is a blessing in disguise” is what I continually hear, and what I’ve heard over and over again. I even heard that very sentence before my own divorce was final!

What are Your Options?

When going through a divorce, you’ve got options:

 • You can be mad and stay mad. For years. Forever.
 • You can make sure the divorce take years and years, drags on and on, and cost lots of money.
 • You can be in denial. You were just relieved it was over, and other than that, “you’re good.”
 • You can punish your ex, and yourself, by exacting revenge and causing as much hurt as possible.
 • Or … you can change what you can change, accept what you cannot change, heal what needs healing, and have the courage to design the life you want.

The question on the table right now is: what are you going to do? Stay stuck, or let go and move on? The choice, indeed, is yours. All yours.

Turn Your Breakup Into Your Breakthrough

I’m going to make the assumption you want to use your divorce as the launch pad for your new life. Even if you’re still in the midst of it, you can start today making small and simple actions that will eventually result in the significant outcome and life you truly desire.

I truly hope you do!

The No. 1 Thing To Do If You Want To Move On Post-Split

A wise, leather-and-lace-clad sage once said, “I’ve been afraid of changing ’cause I’ve built my life around you.” (Yes, that sage was Stevie Nicks. We love you, Stevie.)

And that’s exactly why it’s so hard to move on after a bad breakup, social scientist Gary Lewandowski says in the TED talk above. The relationships we’re in define us, sustain us and, yep, they can absolutely break us when they end, the Monmouth University professor says.

But a split doesn’t have to leave you permanently broken. In fact, Lewandowski’s research has shown that a breakup can oftentimes be a very good thing. In 2007, he and his team asked 155 undergraduates who had recently broken up and hadn’t rebounded to describe the breakup’s overall impact on them. A majority (41.3 percent) rated their breakup experience as positive, while 25.7 percent said it was neutral. Just 33 percent reported that the breakup was negative.

What did the happy-after-heartbreak people do differently? They found themselves, Lewandowski says. As he explains it, a lot of failed relationships involve one partner holding the other back. Breaking up can sometimes allow people to rediscover themselves and the activities that bring them happiness.

“They’re experiencing what I call the rediscovery of their self, which is recapturing the things you may have sacrificed or diminished while you were in a relationship,” he says. “When your relationship doesn’t help you become a better person, ending it does.”

In short, if you’re feeling particularly bad about the end of a relationship, get back out there and do the things you love: Hit the gym and endorphin it up or go play World of Warcraft into the wee small hours of the morning, if that’s more your thing. And if you’re still feeling down, remind yourself of what Lewandowski says in the clip above: “Great relationships seldom fail, bad ones do as they should.”

One Thing That’s Holding You Back From Getting What You Want

Has the world distracted you from your unique, individual, potential and core self? Dr. Phil has a one-word answer that almost certainly lies at the heart of why you got off track in the first place and have continued there: fear. Fear of change is common currency among human beings. And not only are you fearful of changing, others have all sorts of fears about you changing. The ruts we get into, no matter how damaging or limiting, are at least familiar and predictable. Stepping up and out of those ruts is scary.

Ready to face the bogeyman and get him out into the light of day? Assume that you will have fear — and then take it apart. What fears have kept you from changing in the past? What kind of fear do you expect to feel when you change? Answer those two questions as they relate to these key words below. Be specific and as honest as you know how to be.

Family
God
Children
Spouse
Friends
Job

Then, ask yourself: What common themes do you see? Fear of losing? Not being loved or respected? Fear of failure or aging? The fears that you are bringing out into the open here do not have to continue to hold you back. Make a commitment right now of heart and soul to unleash your authentic self and to continue to become aware of all that you can be.

DVDs: “The Hobbit” Ends Sadly, “Gates Of Heaven” Delights and “The Sure Thing” Is A Sure Thing

Some lovely, under-appreciated animated features, two classic documentaries that Roger Ebert loved and the exhausting finale to what was once the highly anticipated Hobbit movies.

THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES ($ 44.95 BluRay combo; Warner Home Video)
EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS ($ 49.99 3-D BluRay Deluxe; Fox)

Two lumbering epics. Exodus: Gods and Kings is not really a disappointment since director Ridley Scott has seemed lost for many years now. Unlike online flamers, I don’t have an issue with the film’s approach to the religious aspect of the story. It’s just a whole lot of fuss and feels exactly like a Fox “epic” from the 1960s, which is a horrible insult. Some of the big spectacle moments are satisfying and Christian Bale is an imposing hero. But the campy yet sincere Charlton Heston The Ten Commandments remains more satisfying on every level.

The final Hobbit movie brings a sad end to what should have been a triumph. Director Peter Jackson was brilliant on The Lord Of The Rings, one of the great film fantasies of all time. It was essentially right in tune with the material from start to finish and a remarkable accomplishment. His initial instinct to avoid trying to duplicate/top that experience with The Hobbit was the right one. Everything about this whole venture has been disastrous on a Phantom Menace level. The first film was shockingly bad on a dramatic level. The second was somewhat proficient but anonymously so, with almost none of the actual spirit of either the book itself or the more mature, darker vision of Middle Earth that flowered in The Lord Of The Rings (both film and book). The focus on technology — again, just like Phantom Menace — turned the triumphant craft work of LOTR into digital disaster with scenes looking like video games. Now we have the finale. The tone of the book is very different, much more picaresque than the adult LOTR, but it climaxes with a remarkably mature turn of events led by Bilbo Baggins that is deeply moving. It may be for kids, but the price paid emotionally is genuine and pretty amazing in context. Well, Martin Freeman was wonderful casting but the film is so determined to lead up to LOTR that it’s far more worried about the grand battles than the grand bargain Bilbo makes to achieve peace. Moments work here, unlike either of the other two films. And as always with Jackson the extras are plentiful and top-notch. But what a dreadful waste of talent from all involved.

TOP FIVE ($ 39.99 BluRay combo; Paramount)

It’s not enough to say this is Chris Rock’s best movie. That is faint praise given his track record. Rock’s real success has been as a stand-up comic and the sweet, but sharp TV show Everybody Hates Chris which successfully mined his childhood and launched a clutch of talented actors. So Top Five is better than all the other bad live action movies he has appeared in. But it’s actually good good — a paean to Woody Allen, a romantic comedy, a savvy look at the life of a stand-up and pretty darn funny. It’s not great great, just good good. But as writer and director and star, Rock finally got the chance to show his stuff and hint that he may just have theatrical greatness in him.

MR. BEAN: THE WHOLE BEAN ($ 24.97 DVD; Shout! Factory)
FIREBALL XL5: THE COMPLETE SERIES ($ 29.93 DVD; Shout! Factory)

Well, let’s not compare Rowan Atkinson’s Mr. Bean to actual silent film greats like Laurel & Hardy or god forbid Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, et al. But just as Jacques Tati’s movies delighted simply for being silent comedies in an era when silent comedies were naturally all but extinct, Atkinson’s trouble prone Bean was a breath of fresh air in the early 1990s when he first appeared. Just as Westerns are so welcome when they’ve been off screen for a long time, the pratfall antics of Bean seemed like a revelation. And not surprisingly they played well all over the world since dialogue is not an issue. This set remasters all 14 episodes of the original run. Someday they’ll slap together all the movies, the animated series and these episodes, but this is plenty for casual fans.

Hardcore devotees of supermarionation devised by Gerry Anderson are surely the only ones who will be eagerly awaiting the complete series Fireball XL5. If you haven’t seen Thunderbirds, that’s clearly the place to start. But just as Mr. Bean is so delightful for being a new stab at silent comedy, the retro joy of Anderson’s work is seeing sci-fi spectacles and elaborate action scenes being staged by puppets with strings often clearly visible and the models of space ships zooming past backdrops wonderfully obvious. It’s not cheaply done or klutzy but unquestionably done with love and just as enjoyable as plopping down in a public park and watching a performer enact Punch & Judy. In other words, the joy of performing and bringing a story to life is more important than the quality or more exactly the style of special effects. That’s why Star Wars will endure and the “superior” digital effects of Phantom Menace et al pale quickly. Here you’ve got adventures in space as Earth colonizes the stars but needs an action team to fight danger, stage rescues and the like. What might surprise parents is how quickly little kids will embrace the storytelling even though they should reject it as fake looking.

GATES OF HEAVEN/VERNON, FLORIDA ($ 39.95 BluRay; Criterion)
JOHN FORD: DREAMING THE QUIET MAN ($ 29.95 BluRay; Olive Films)
OPEN SESAME: THE STORY OF SEEDS ($ 24.98 DVD; Disinformation Company)

Whenever I watch the early masterpieces of filmmaker Errol Morris, I can’t help thinking of Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel. They championed Morris and rightly so since he’s proven one of the most influential documentary filmmakers in history. His first two gems are collected by Criterion in a package that is not as extras heavy as some of their other sets but is welcome nonetheless for enshrining these movies in excellent prints and bringing them to the attention of movie lovers everywhere. Morris would go on to make formally beautiful movies like The Thin Blue Line. Here his resources are more modest but what he accomplishes on a shoe string is remarkable. Gates Of Heaven is about a pet cemetery; Vernon, Florida is about a small town seemingly populated with more than its fair share of kooks. Both are warmly fascinated by the odd ducks that populate them and tell the stories of these people with open-minded curiosity. If one had the sense that Morris ever felt superior to the folk discussing the elaborate funeral plots for their beloved pets or the trailer park folk with their odd obsessions, the movies would become unpleasant. But Morris is fascinated and delighted and genuinely interested in letting these people reveal themselves in all their eccentric beauty. I’ll simply never forget the person in Vernon who has a jar of sand they collected, sand that grows. (Huh? Watch it.) Essential viewing.

St. Patrick’s Day has passed and if you’re any sort of cinephile and Irish lover, you watched John Ford’s romantic classic The Quiet Man. Anyone who still thinks John Wayne can’t act should watch his young action hero in Stagecoach followed by his bitterly racist anti-hero in The Searchers followed by his broodingly quiet but very funny and romantic turn in The Quiet Man. And once you’ve done that you’ll be a fan for life of the gorgeous Irish countryside, the gorgeous Maureen O’Hara and Wayne himself. After that, you’ll want to learn more. It’s a shame this new documentary narrated by Gabriel Byrne isn’t included in an elaborate BluRay presentation of the film but it’s definitely worth watching for anyone who has devoured that delightful film time and again. I had no idea it took Ford 20 years to make this movie, which is based on a short story in Saturday Evening Post. It seems so delightfully commercial and broadly appealing you’d think studios would be lined up to make it. This documentary tells how that wasn’t so, about the western Ford and Wayne and O’Hara had to make just to get this film off the ground and the impact it had on other filmmakers like Martin Scorsese. And who knew that insanely catchy central theme was written by a cop? It doesn’t get more Irish than that.

Open Sesame: The Story Of Seeds is truly guerrilla filmmaking: it’s a passionate labor of love about seeds, their essential role in our food system and how that role is threatened. Watch it and you’ll learn about the devastating impact of various patents that have turned seeds from a self-propagating resource into a commodity that must be purchased over and over. (Many commercially manufactured seeds are now designed NOT to provide fertile seeds from a crop that could be planted the following year. Thus you have to go back to the big agra combine to buy your seeds every single year.) Other dangers include a dangerous emphasis on massive planting of mono-crops, the same plantings with the same genetic code over and over again, which means any successful attack on that crop can have devastating effects. (Varied seeds with varied genetics as well as the planting of varied crops all can mitigate that vulnerability.) It also deals with GMO but the film is not focused on that one aspect since the story and survival of seeds goes far beyond that one issue.

INTO THE WOODS ($ 39.99 BluRay combo; Disney)
THE SOUND OF MUSIC 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION ($ 49.99 BluRay; Fox)

Do I love musicals? Yes, I do. And yet I approached the feature film Into The Woods with timidity. I’m crazy about the Stephen Sondheim stage production (though I’ve never seen a truly great production of it). Yet there’s something inherently…theatrical about it. It just doesn’t make sense to me as a feature film where all the fairy tale aspects would become literal rather than delightfully imaginary as in a Broadway house. Indeed, that seems to be the fatal flaw in the film. Someone else might have easily find a better, more distinctive way of tackling this story about what happens after “happily ever after,” but I doubt it would have truly worked. Yes, elaborate effects and big stars crammed into every role was the least imaginative way to go. But some musicals are not meant to be movies and I’m pretty sure this is one of them. Everything feels too literal here, whereas on stage it’s lighter than air and the poignancy of everyone from the childless couple to the Witch feels universal and deeply moving. Still, it’s coming out the day after James Corden made his late night debut on TV and he does quite nicely here. So it’s a good week for him, at least.

Of course, some stage musicals were destined to be films. Surely that’s the case with Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most successful property, The Sound Of Music. It’s the least complicated of their major musicals but it works a charm on film, whereas most of their other stage plays were entombed in godawful feature films that denuded them of the complex, adult concerns that made the stage plays so much more than just tuneful family entertainment. But family entertainment, indeed light operetta is exactly what’s on tap here, even though the film adroitly improves on the stage production and doesn’t blink from showing the way the Austrians worked with and even welcomed the Nazis at every level of society, from the aristocracy to the middle class to the workers. Captain Von Trapp is very much alone in his disdain for the Fuhrer. You don’t remember that really, of course, because what dominates the memory is a score brimming with classic tunes and Julie Andrews simply radiating goodness as Maria. Memorable villains are a piece of cake, by the way. Creating memorable, genuinely nice people is nigh on impossible but Andrews accomplishes exactly that. And she sings like an angel. If you own the 45th anniversary edition, there’s no need to upgrade. If you don’t, the BluRay is pretty stunningly lovely.

SONG OF THE SEA ($ 34.98 BluRay; Universal)
THE TALE OF THE PRINCESS KAGUYA ($ 34.98 BluRay; Universal)

The big shock when this year’s Oscar nominations were announced was the cold shoulder for The Lego Movie, one of the most successful and acclaimed films of the year. People foolishly blamed two of the movies they had never heard of that were nominated. I blame the inclusion of the very inferior movie The Boxtrolls. It was a technically challenging film from a company that has done wonderful work, but this wasn’t a creatively satisfying film according to virtually everyone. But most everyone else said, hey, what’s Song Of The Sea and The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya? Never heard of ’em! Well, Song is from the people behind The Secret Of Kells and uses an Irish folk tale to create a visually striking new film. Princess Kaguya is an even more gorgeous work from Studio Ghibli, the source for animation master Miyazaki. This fable proves the artisans that crafted his many masterpieces will be carrying on the tradition of excellent film work for years to come. Watch these and you won’t be complaining about why they were included; you’ll be complaining that they should have won over the middling effort Big Hero Six.

Robert Montgomery is a fascinating figure in Hollywood, both staunchly conservative and a bit of rebel thanks to going it online to purse his own projects after years in the studio system. He made a string of good to great movies, served as a pioneer in grooming politicians to make the most of their visual image via TV and the like (he served as an image consultant for President Eisenhower), fought corruption, hated commies and like any man’s man, genuinely put himself in harm’s way during World War Ii, ultimately winning the Bronze Star. He enjoyed big success as a producer in TV, where Robert Montgomery Presents was a big hit. His directorial efforts were less acclaimed but Montgomery hit a high water mark with the offbeat noir Ride A Pink Horse. (Even the title is offbeat!) It’s given loving treatment from Criterion but this is no lost classic. It’s a solid if second tier noir but with enough interest to make it worth your time. It’s the sort of release that let’s you know the folk at Criterion are people with their own quirky favorites and not just turning out the obvious big classics, like those AFI lists of the 100 Best Comedies that are depressingly middle brow.

John Cusack just switched some of his behind the scenes team and I couldn’t be happier. A terrific actor, Cusack has lost a step or two commercially and while he’s always working and always making money, he’s not building on the great early work of his career, at least not consistently. Here’s hoping he gets back on track and can make new films as fresh and distinctive as The Sure Thing. An early triumph for Rob Reiner, it’s a classic road movie with Cusack and Daphne Zuniga battling every step of the way as college students headed cross country. She’s meeting her boyfriend/husband-to-be while he’s hooking up with a sure thing. It’s a genuine delight. “Make love in a hammock!” is always good advice. Watch it and remind yourself how good he can be.

It’s another peak moment for fans of Orson Welles. A beautifully restored print of Chimes Of Midnight is on its way. A new book – Orson Welles’s Last Movie — tells the wild, hard to believe story of the making and unmaking of his still unseen final work The Other Side Of The Wind. And here is a gorgeous new BluRay print of his noir-ish The Lady From Shanghai. Not peak Welles but it has peak moments including a justly famous climax. This print looks just smashing.

Director Robert Altman was alone and all but forgotten during his years in the wilderness after the collapse of Popeye and before his comeback. He made modest, un-Altmanesque movies on a dime. But for my money they’re proud additions to his body of work and only add lustre to his legacy. Secret Honor is a compelling one-man show for Philip Baker Hall as NIxon. Streamers is a tight and nicely done adaptation of the stage play. And Vincent & Theo is an excellent example of that awful sub-genre: the film about a great artist. Often deadly dull, but this one is vibrant and alive, with excellent work by Tim Roth as Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Rhys as his much put-upon brother. It’s raw and passionate and exciting. No wonder his next film would be The Player.

The biker movie The Wild One was a sensation when it came out. Now it’s a curio, reduced to that one great bit of dialogue (“What are you rebelling against?” “Whatta ya got?”) and of course Brando. Marlon Brando makes it worth a look and this is a fine print. But the film is hopelessly dated despite his best effort.

The Breakfast Club is also dated, I must admit. A big favorite of mine on its release, the film was rightly dubbed The Little Chill while in production. Indeed, just like The Big Chill, it has remarkable casting (Jackie Burch did the honors) and scenes that imprinted themselves on a generation. Sure, it’s blame the parents attitude felt a little easy even then but it took its teenager heroes seriously, something you usually had to watch French films to see. But it holds up as a showcase for the great cast and as a time capsule for an era when young people at the center of a film felt like a novelty.

Sasha Luss Is Not Like Any Other Model on Instagram—And That’s a Good Thing

Sasha Luss

Most models are pretty straightforward with Instagram. They post a selfie, and you are graced with a hashtag that reads #selfie. If they drink a green juice, you may learn that it’s #spinach— or #kale. And if they are getting a facial, you would be able to understand that due to the caption that reads #facial. (Which is not even to mention the bevy of paid-for promotional Instagrams hawking products or new ad campaigns.) But then there is blue-eyed Moscow native Sasha Luss—a seriously in-demand face who walked 23 shows this season including almost all of the major houses, has graced campaigns from Chanel to Dior, and is also basically Socrates on social media.

For Luss, or @sashaluss, and her 150K followers, she gets personal, deep, and philosophical in her social media, in Russian as often as in English. A selfie is not a mere selfie, it’s paired with a Russian pop song or a poem. A regram of a street style shot is paired with a roughly translated quote about beauty and love by Françcoise Sagan. There have even been odes to furry friends: “The eyes of dogs are surprisingly humanlike. I love them, they are smart and kind, but people treat them with evil. Love your four-legged friends. They are the only friend that you can buy.” (Point taken! We think?)

In English, Luss’s captions can be even more abstract. There are pop song lyrics, by everyone from Hozier to Counting Crows, and quotes from popular films like The Devil Wears Prada: “Yes, because that’s really what this whole multibillion-dollar industry is all about, isn’t it? Inner beauty. . . .” But lest you think Luss has anything but love for her career, cast your eyes to hashtags like “#beautyiseverywhere #thisindustryseesbothsides #insideout #loveit.” Or the existential Jack London caption on a selfie taken in bed, “I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.”

And every once in a while, her musings aren’t so profound—smiling editorial snaps accompanied by “I have a big mouth. Easy to chew,” or her posing with a nervous-looking facial expression that is described as “When u actually realize that fw is about to start o____O.” After all, even Luss understands that sometimes a beautiful photo that speaks for itself needs little explaining—though we have to admit, we really do like it when she puts her own deep-thought spin on it.

Podcast Review: No Such Thing As A Fish

One could have, perhaps, predicted the glut of pop culture-oriented podcasts that have sprung up. Hell, it’s the linchpin for the recently launched WolfPop network of shows. Less understandable (at least to me) is the rise of the trivia-oriented podcast.

Especially trivia AND comedy.

There’s Good Job, Brain, NPR’s Ask Me Another podcast, and even Another Damn Trivia Show.

2015-01-24-NSTAAF.jpegNow we’re even importing our trivia shows. From over across the pond comes No Such Thing As A Fish, an offshoot of QI, which stands for Quite Interesting, a BBC2 TV comedy panel show. The TV show is hosted by famed English comedians Alan Davies and Stephen Fry.

The podcast spinoff is hosted by a quartet of the TV show’s researchers (or the “QI Elves”, as they call themselves): Alex, James, Andy, and Anna. And each week’s show is based on the most interesting facts the four have managed to discover in the past 7 days.

The show is in four segments, each segment kicked off by a host’s favorite fact for the week. In the latest edition, the inciting factoid was “Cows have friends, and they get sad when you separate them.” Supporting research is offered to valid said facts, then there’s a free-for-all as the others toss out vaguely related bits on the kickoff fact.

Did you know, for instance, that sharks also have friends? Other topics in this fascinating and funny episode include tiger selfies, dog- and goat-pulled baby carriages, and author D.H. Lawrence who, as it turned out, had a cow named Susan that he wrote about frequently.

This show is like one of those trivia books people used to keep in the bathroom, except No Such Thing As A Fish is a toilet trivia book for your ears.

An Open Letter to My Ex-Wife: I Thought You Were the Most Beautiful Thing in the World

I never imagined you and I, out of all the people in this world, would go through something so devastating as we did.

Throughout the years, we created the most beautiful memories. We climbed all the way to the top together, only to slip and fall as soon as we got there. And though I may have contributed to that fall, I tried so hard to hold on to you.

My heart shattered into a million pieces. Eventually, I realized I couldn’t save us.

2014-12-31-divorce.jpg

I couldn’t undo what had been done, and I let you go to find your true happiness.

All I ever wanted was my own family. Every day, I dreamed of falling in love with a woman, getting married, buying a beautiful home and one day bringing our own little bundle of joy into the world.

I guess it goes without saying that you made all of that feel real for me; you helped make most of those dreams come true. I wanted nothing more than to be the best husband, a romantic lover, the most selfless provider, and one day, the world’s best dad.

Our relationship wasn’t perfect, but I loved you so much.

All those things I wanted to be, I couldn’t imagine with anyone but you.

Our life together — it was like Disney World. We ran carefree in this theme park we call life. Holding each others’ hands, we laughed, cried, loved, and we were in awe of everything we experienced. We were children with dreams, and together, we thought about the day when all of ours would come true.

Eventually, though, those roller coasters stopped.

The music died down, the lights shut off, and our magical journey came to an abrupt halt.

You were gone.

Suddenly, everything that was so familiar about life felt so foreign. I was lost without you. All I had left were my memories and dreams of us that I knew would never come true.

There are a few things that I never had the opportunity to tell you …

Every time I called you, I looked forward to hearing you answer the phone. You would say “hey” in this voice that sound so innocent and so loving. And it never changed. It always reminded me of the beginning of our relationship and all of the reasons I fell in love with you. Who would have thought something so simple could be so powerful? It’s what made you unique.

Remember all the times you yelled at me when I was looking at you? You’d ask me why, and I would either laugh or get angry because you had this “sass” about you. You know what? I looked at you because I thought you were the most beautiful thing in the world. I didn’t care what you were wearing — whether you had makeup on. I’d look at you and get lost in your laugh and your smile. Whatever flaws you believed you had, I loved — how you’d look in the mirror and always suck in your stomach; how you always analyzed every picture we took together and made me delete them, nine times out of 10; how you’d pace around on the phone when you were nervous. Or how about how you hated to be on video? I noticed everything. But I loved it.

How about Valentine’s Day in Atlantic City, when we arrived at the hotel and got the keys to our suite, only to find out it was disgusting. You wouldn’t even sit on the bed! We both laughed until we got our room switched. Once we got there, you started jumping up and down like a maniac (I have it on video), and then eventually, you crashed and took a nap, like you always did. I sat there on that cloudy afternoon, lights off in the room, and just watched you sleep. I kept thinking about getting to marry you one day and having the opportunity to enjoy that moment over and over again. You looked so peaceful, and it reminded me of the responsibility I had to protect you, always.

Then there was that warm summer afternoon in June. The commute home from work that day was the most exciting drive of my life (and the longest, too). I will never forget picking up the phone and calling you, asking you to get ready and meet me at the house so we could grab dinner. It was spontaneous, I know, and in hindsight, not very well-planned. I didn’t care, though.

I wanted to ask you to spend the rest of your life with me, and I guess I just couldn’t wait anymore.

Your ring had been sitting in my room for three weeks in its blue Tiffany box, wrapped with a white ribbon. Every time I looked at it, I would think back to that night in May 2004 when I first laid eyes on you.

I thought about us being kids, not having anything but each other. I thought about the dreams we shared, and how I was so ready to spend the rest of my life with you. You helped shaped me into the man I was becoming, and this was a representation of my love and appreciation for you.

I was so nervous walking onto that beach in Long Branch — my hands were sweating, my heart racing. When I got down on one knee in the sand, I remember the look on your face. The sun was beating down, your hair was blowing in the wind. I could hear the waves crashing behind me. I’ll never forget you putting your hands over your mouth, saying “YES!”

It was one of the happiest moments of my life. When I slipped that ring onto your finger, I was certain it would never come off.

That leaves me with our wedding day.

June 10, 2012, the greatest day of my life. I looked forward to that for 27 years, but I never imagined it to be as beautiful as it was.

I was in awe of everything — the cameras, the flowers, the people, the church, the venue. Everything was beyond my wildest imagination, but nothing could compare to the excitement I felt about becoming your husband.

I couldn’t wait to make you Mrs. D’Ambrosio.

Here we were, two teenagers who met on the Seaside boardwalk eight years prior, with no idea about life, love, and where it would take us. We finally created this day. We had built our lives, our careers, our home, and now it was time to build our family.

I stepped out to the altar and waited for you. My heart was filled with so many emotions, but I just wanted to hold your hand for the rest of my life.

When those doors opened, every dream, wish and prayer I ever had came marching right toward me, more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.

You were my best friend. I wanted so much more for the both of us.

Sometimes, though, we have to accept the unexpected.

Our worlds need to fall apart, so we can put them back together the way they were meant to be.

There’s nothing more important to me than your happiness, and knowing you have that means the world to me. Our lives took different paths, but that can never take away from the memories we shared.

As for me? I’m happy. I’ve found peace. I am busier than ever with work, I found a new passion with writing, and I’ve been rebuilding a life that was once in a million pieces. I still dream of having a family. I still dream of holding my own child. Of course, I still dream of falling in love and finding my true happiness.

I’m much of the same Anthony you knew, but so much different.

You see, too many people live with hate in this world. Those same people live with anger and fear.

I’m not one of those people.

I’m disappointed we never got to finish writing our happily ever after, but I’ll never be angry. I’ll never hate you, and I’ll never be dishonest about my emotions. God gave me this amazing opportunity to love. It brought me to so many beautiful places, taught me so much about life and gave me memories I’ll cherish forever. How can I ever be angry about that?

To your parents, sister, grandparents, aunt and uncle — tell them I always loved them as if they were my own, and I’m sorry if I never lived up to their expectations. I knew how much they loved you. I knew what kind of man they wanted for you, and God knows, I did everything I could to make sure I was just that.

And finally, to you — I’m sorry for anything I may have ever done to hurt you. More than anything, I wanted to spend forever with you by my side, and to one day add our own little peanut who would join us for the ride. Everything I did in my life was to ensure yours would be all you dreamed it to be. I wanted to give you the world.

Unfortunately, I fell short.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have held you tighter during our first dance and picked a song that never ended.

I’m not perfect, and I never want people to think that I am. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve done things I’m not proud to admit, and I’ve made decisions I wish I could take back. But I loved someone with every bone in my body, with every beat of my heart and every inch of my soul. It wasn’t perfect, but I know for sure I loved with everything I had; I loved in such a way that your happiness was always mine. And I’m thankful for that.

I once told you I wish I could put into words how much I loved you and share it with the world; here’s my best shot at that promise.

Losing you may have been the most painful experience of my life, but it made me stronger than ever. It somehow made life feel real.

While on paper I lost my wife, in reality I lost so much more.

I lost a piece of me that I will never get back.

Take good care of it.

All the best,

Anthony

Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!

About Me

Commitment-wise, a fun buddy (or two, or three) is all I'm in the market for right now. When I go out, I go with the flow, and end up where I end up. I get along best with people who are willing to push the envelope in bed and out of it, with those who are willing to embrace the kinky arts. I like my partners to be as insatiable as I am. I look forward to setting up our first rendezvous.

If you contact me bear in mind that I'm married and I'm just looking for a discreet fling, not a soulmate. I'm not interested in changing my life – I'm just turning up the volume on my leisure time.

I would prefer meeting with married men, but am not completely opposed to the right single…

What I’m Looking For

Fun, frivolous, discreet dates, with true gentlemen. Oh, but don't be scared away! I'm no damsel in distress, needing a valiant knight to approach from afar, wearing his armor of courtesy and respect.

No, I'm much more interested in how he sheathes his weapon. Be it a sword … or a dagger! P

Metaphors aside, I'm looking for a married man (singles may apply) to spend quality time with, with no emotional strings, with mutual enjoyment of our particular tastes and sexual desires. I'm okay with dating in public and at parties, given the understanding of discretion over certain topics.

This 'Full House' Horror Recut Is The Best Thing Ever

Warning: After watching, you might stay awake foreverrrrrrr.

This creepy “Full House” horror recut will make you question everything you knew about the TGIF classic. It takes out-of-context innocent moments from the show, such as when the characters are crying or when Danny says, “I just want to dip your legs in garlic butter” (okay, that one might actually be weird), adds in some scary music and effectively ruins all your childhood memories.

Enjoy.
