While this generation of Hip-Hoppers may not care much for the OG’s of the game like De La Soul, it’s good to see some people still appreciate what the 90’s group brings to the table. Even if said people are from across the pond.

Today London-based artist Tom Misch enlisted the talents of De La Soul for his visuals to “It Runs Through Me” where the singer recreates a 70’s styled studio while Posdunos made his appearance on the old school tube. Tube is old school slang for TV, millennials.

Back in the states Eric Bellinger takes his talents to the beach where he sings his heart out about a troubled relationship in his clip to “By Now.”

W itch trials in Virginia? Salem wasn’t the first… Psychologist Shae Howard treats a patient who claims to recall nothing of the current century. Under hypnosis, Phoebe Wynne tells an astonishing tale of an ocean crossing to Colonial Jamestown, followed by near starvation and a daring escape to a nearby Indian tribe. Although Shae’s ex-husband, seasoned police detective Lee Crowley, is intrigued by Phoebe’s story, he remains skeptical regarding her claim that she’s from the seventeenth century. A Native American himself, he does, however, admit to feeling a kinship with Phoebe. How is it that she seems to understand his pain and anger at being caught between two cultures? Phoebe shows Lee “the dreaming,” which reveals a misty world where the Powhatan people and Colonial Jamestown come to life… and connects him to his own past. Is Phoebe delusional? A witch? Or has she indeed traveled through time?

Car Plowing Through Charlottesville Crowd Leaves 1 Dead, 19 Injured

The situation unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia took a dark turn in the wake of Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency in the city. A car plowed into the throng of gatherers in the city, leaving one dead and 19 others injured.

CNN reports:

One person was killed and 19 were hurt when a speeding car slammed into a throng of counterprotesters in Charlottesville, where a “Unite the Right” rally of white nationalist and other right-wing groups had been scheduled take place, the city tweeted on its verified account.

The driver was later taken into custody, the city said in a news release. It did not name the person.

“I am heartbroken that a life has been lost here. I urge all people of good will — go home,” Mayor Mike Signer wrote on Twitter.

The city added that there were 15 other injuries associated with the scheduled rally.

Reports say the driver of the gray Dodge Challenger rammed one car from behind then reversed the vehicle down a packed street. Images have appeared of the carnage online and we must warn that some of those images are disturbing.

Adding to the overall intensity of situations on the ground in the city, a Virginia State Police helicopter crashed near the site of the protests, leaving two troopers dead.

How To Help A Friend Going Through A Divorce

Once you hit your late twenties and early thirties, the wave of “young” divorces may start to come. People who married just out of high school or college may find their relationships coming apart at the seams — and, as friends, you’re all likely to get involved in the resulting emotional and financial rigmarole. Particularly if one of your friends has been divorced before, it can be difficult to know the appropriate type of behavior to help a friend in this situation. Should you help burn the ex’s clothes? Go on ragers all night? Take care of their lives while they weep into a plate of cake? How do you actually help your friend get through a divorce?

“Justice” Through My Eyes by Unnamed Child

On Saturday October 10, 2015, I had the privilege to travel to Washington, DC with a busload of twenty-seven people to commensurate the 20 year anniversary of the Million Man March.  The after-school program, which I am the Program Director, Young Scholars in Service @ Connexions:  A Community Arts Based School in West Baltimore sponsored the excursion.  Like a million plus men twenty years ago, I attended the original march.  And I have repeatedly stated that the Million Man March in 1995 influenced me to become an educator and serve my community in a greater capacity.  But my excitement to attend this march this time wasn’t for personal gain or gratification, rather, I wanted to see how the march would impact the lives of the young people who would be in attendance with us.

The youth who traveled with us were awaken as early as 5am in the morning, to arrive at our bus departure location in West Baltimore to begin traveling to DC at 6:15am.  We wanted to arrive as early as possible to avoid traffic and to also position ourselves close to the stage.  As we boarded the bus, I was trying to gauge the temperature of our youth.  Were they excited?  Were they nervous?  Were they still sleepy?  What’s the mood of our young people?

Our children were prepped for the trip to Washington, DC in advance.  We had several people, myself included, speak to students to get them excited about attending 10-10-15.  But unlike the first march when Minister Louis Farrakhan himself traveled from every major city to every other major city to galvanize the people support with one consistent message from his voice, this time many spoke and the message was not as consistent.  So the expectation of the day’s event was not thoroughly understood and left for interpretation.

Nevertheless, we went to the march and became part of a historical moment.  We peacefully stood in solidarity with hundreds of thousands of people.  Side by side stood men, women, and children as attentive as soldiers.  And we listened to speaker after speaker.  Personally, I was inspired and motivated by all who spoke, to return home to continue to do the work necessary to improve the conditions in the community I live and serve in.  However, as I stated earlier, this moment wasn’t about me.  Instead, this was more about our youth.  So when we returned to Baltimore, I asked our young people in tow to share with me their feelings and thoughts in writing, about their experience.  I collected papers yesterday and today I’d like to share with you words from the mouth of a child:

“Saturday I went to the Million Man March.  I mainly went there because I heard celebrities would be there and there would be free food.  My peers told me that it would be a historic march and we would be part of history.  I had a few doubts, thinking if stuff hasn’t changed for a long while then this march wouldn’t change things.  However, I tried to hold judgment, hoping that maybe, just maybe this march would actually change things for the better.  So I went to the march Saturday with some other students.  We got to DC and listened to the speakers at the march.  The speakers talked about the many issues facing black people and Native American and Latinos.  They talked about MANY injustices that have happened against black people, some of which I didn’t even know about.  I stood and listened to them speak.  None of their words stuck with me and I just became bored.  After the whole speech, I was overall disappointed.  In my opinion, they just repeated many of the things they have said throughout the many months and years.  Look, I understand African-Americans have gone through hell and back to get where they are today.  I understand that they have been horribly mistreated.  But nowadays when I hear people on TV speaking about the mistreatment of black people I really don’t pay it much attention.  I feel like all they do is talk about issue after issue without talking about a solid, strategic solution to solve the problem.  That’s what it felt like Saturday at the march.  They talked about issues, they talked about how people have succeeded doing this and that, but never did the present a solid plan on how to make things better.

They talked about how black people need to join together, stop hating on each other and be at peace with each other.  So let’s say black people really do join up in unity, then what?  Are they going to protest?  Join together for another speech?  What is the plan?  I’ve seen people protest and making speeches, but where does that get us?  I understand it is meant as a way to be seen and heard by all, but I feel like they resort to protesting and speeches instead of coming up with a real plan that targets the people who can really make change in this country.  I’m talking about a plan that brings change through a strategic nonviolent way.  I’m sick of seeing all this protest and not seeing any significant results.  I feel like there is a way for black people to get what they want.  There is always a way to get what you want, you just have to sit down and really think of the best way to do it.  Until that really happens we will be stuck in the current state we are in.  I don’t believe the issues facing black people will ever end in the world we live in, it just doesn’t seem possible.  However, I believe there are measures we can take to temporarily solve our current problems until the next problem arises.  I don’t know all the fact about the race problem in our county and I’m sure I’m missing a bit of stuff, but this is just how I see things through my eyes.”

In a new instructional video, Dead Weather guitarist Dean Fertita explains how the band created the track “Let Me Through,” off their latest album, Dodge & Burn. “The song was based around a bass riff that we just looped, and Alison [Mosshart] wrote the lyrics and vocal without guitar at all; just bass and drums,” Fertita said in the video.

Syrian rock musicians on unexpected ‘exile tour’ through Europe

Syrian band Khebez Dawle pose for a photo before a concert in Zagreb, Croatia, on September 23, 2015Like tens of thousands of their fellow countrymen fleeing war, members of a Syrian rock group exiled in Lebanon undertook a perilous journey to reach Europe. "We are all humans … Thank you all very much for coming!" Anas Maghrebi, lead singer of Khebez Dawle, told the audience of some 300 at the start of their concert in a Zagreb club late Wednesday. The alternative rock band from Damascus fled Syria to neighbouring Lebanon in 2013, a year after a fellow band member was killed.

The Price Kids Pay When Parents Go Through A Bitter Divorce

In the video above, Dr. Phil gives a wake-up call to feuding exes Melissa and Eddie, whose custody disputes and vitriol toward one another are negatively impacting their 9-year-old son.

What Children Need Most When Their Parents Divorce

“Let me tell you what happens to children who live in contentious divorce,” Dr. Phil says.

  • They have appreciably lower math skills.
  • They have appreciably lower social development.
  • They have appreciably lower achievement in college.
  • They are at higher risk for anxiety, stress and low self-esteem.
  • They have a higher frequency of health problems.
  • They have a two times higher divorce rate.
  • If they marry someone who is also from a divorced home, they have a three times higher divorce rate.
  • They have a five-year shorter life span, which means it’s eroding their overall constitutional strength.

“The kids that get caught in the middle of all this are paying the price,” he concludes.

Voice of equality through music ends Proms season

US conductor Marin Alsop performs at the last night of the BBC Proms festival of classical music at the Royal Albert Hall in London, BritainAmerican conductor Marin Alsop brought the 120th season of the Proms, the world's biggest and longest running music festival, to a close in London on Saturday, with an acknowledgement of the power of music to help overcome inequality. "It's clear inequality is one of the greatest challenges facing us today," said Alsop, who returned to the podium to lead the BBC Symphony Orchestra through the traditional Last Night of the Proms celebrations two years after becoming the first woman to conduct the concert. In the cavernous, oval-shaped Albert Hall, German tenor Jonas Kaufmann continued the final evening's eclectic musical program with a selection of Puccini arias, including 'Nessun Dorma', while Danielle de Niese, described by the New York Times as "opera's coolest soprano", led an audience sing-along of a medley of songs from The Sound of Music in celebration of the film's 50th anniversary.

The Simple Change I Made to Get Through My Divorce

I was the only one in my Child Impact Program that had finalized their divorce. As we went around the room introducing ourselves and giving our “brief” bio, I realized how lucky I was. Almost everyone, once they started talking, was desperate to tell their story and be heard. When my turn came, I was cheerful and brief. It turns out I had the class record for the fastest split. We filed in December and were done by the end of March. It could have been sooner but I wasn’t expecting it to be that easy so I picked a later date. “How did you do it?” everyone asked.

First, in a way, I was lucky. Even though we have two children, we don’t have a great deal of money or possessions. There simply weren’t any assets to fight over. I had met with a lawyer well in advance and knew what I could ask for. The law was clear on child support and the rest wasn’t worth arguing over.

Second, this was his second divorce involving children and since he had the same job, the visitation would be the same as before. We took that as a given.

Third, I was ready financially, emotionally, and physically. I had all my ducks in a row, refused to take any bait for an argument, and had also apologized to my ex-husband for any pain I may have caused. My support systems were in place and I had time marked out time to exercise and meditate so I could work through the inherent stress that this kind of life change brings.

But the best thing I did, which I shared with my class, didn’t cost any money, time, or grief. I simply changed my husband’s name in my contact list to “Co-Parent.” It’s the new politically correct term for your ex. Brilliant! I learned this early on in January from a recently divorced friend who told me what to expect from the Child Impact Program. It makes so much sense. From that point on it became all about the children. There was a complete shift in the dynamic of the relationship. Our weekly meetings became less emotional, the tone changed, and the focus was clear.

Now, a year after my divorce, whenever the name “Co-Parent” pops up on my phone, I’m reminded that it isn’t about me. My new role in the relationship is to communicate (as clearly as possible) what is needed for the children. Any emotion I might have is secondary and for the most part behind me. And most importantly, does not enter the conversation. The reach of that simple switch also goes beyond the name I see on my phone. When I reference him in conversation as “my co-parent,” I can speak respectfully on behalf of my children about their father. The negative connotation of “my ex, their dad” is taken out of the equation. When I told everyone in my Child Impact class what my “secret” was, several people pulled out their phones to make the change. The instructor said she was going to add that tip to her discussion on co-parenting.

Cockatiel Lip-Syncs Her Way Through Nelly’s ‘Dilemma’ And Into Our Hearts

Nelly’s 2002 R&B hit “Dilemma” was adored by swooning lovebirds everywhere, but it really hit home with one bird in particular: a cockatiel named Patrick Jane.

As seen in this YouTube video uploaded on Saturday, Patrick Jane loves nothing more than to lip sync to some quality early-aughts R&B.

Patrick Jane is about 1 1/2 years old and female, “although we thought she was a ‘he’ when we first brought her home,” owner Dean Jeffs told The Huffington Post in an email.

“What Patrick is actually doing in this video is clearing her crop,” Jeffs explained, emphasizing it’s a lip-sync video and has been edited slightly to match up with the song. “She does this often and I’ve always felt like it looked like she was singing. … So I filmed her a few days ago and put the music behind it.”

Jeffs said the song has “always been one of my guilty pleasures.”

“Patrick doesn’t really have any other favorite songs, but she LOVES people,” Jeffs said. “She tweets maniacally when people leave the room (especially me), and is most happy when she it sitting on someone’s shoulder.”

Lip-sync or no, Patrick Jane, we’re crazy a-bird you. Why don’t you go ahead and play us off:

and I need you SQUAAAAWK,

No matter what I do SQUAAAAWK,

The Met’s Costume Institute Breaks Attendance Record With ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’

FOR THE RECORD: The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute has turned up its own summer blockbuster. Over the weekend, “China: Through the Looking Glass” shattered the record-breaking attendance figures for the 2011 exhibition “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.” As of Sunday afternoon, the Andrew Bolton-curated China show had attracted 671,234 visitors, making it The Costume Institute’s most attended exhibition ever. With three weeks to go until its Labor Day closing, the China exhibition may still gain ground on the Met’s other Top 10 visited exhibitions. The McQueen one ranked eighth with 661,509 visitors.
Given “China: Through the Looking Glass’” cross-cultural appeal – designers from around the globe are represented – it is not surprising that museum-goers speaking a variety of languages can be heard in the show’s 16 different galleries. Creative input from artistic director Wong Kar Wai is artistic director and production designer Nathan Crowley no doubt helped drum up interest. The Met is also favorite stop for many of the city’s estimated 55 million annual visitors. For fiscal year 2015 that ended June 30, The Met welcomed 6.3 people, according to a museum spokeswoman. And unlike the McQueen show, which often left many biding their time in line in

Al Roker Says Kathie Lee Gifford’s Faith Is Helping Her Through Her Husband’s Death

Five days after the death of football legend Frank Gifford, Al Roker told HuffPost Live that his “Today” colleague Kathie Lee Gifford is “very strong but obviously very distraught” after losing her husband.

“The thing I love about Kathie Lee [is] she jokes around and does all this, but at her core — and this is what I admire about her — she is such a woman of faith,” Roker said. “And while this is a tragedy for her and her family, I know she knows it’s God’s will. And while she’s sad, I think she rejoices in the time she had with Frank and these two beautiful children they had together.”

UPDATE: Gifford responded to Roker’s comments on Twitter, writing that she and her family have found “perfect peace.”

Alice returns to Wonderland in Through the Looking Glass , another imaginative fantasy from author Lewis Carroll. While gazing into the looking glass, Alice wonders what it would be like to live in a backwards world. Climbing through it, she finds her answer: a world where winter is summer, flowers and sheep can talk, and people celebrate their unbirthdays. The book features a surreal supporting cast of eccentrics, including a royal family of sentient chess pieces and nursery rhyme characters like Humpty Dumpty and Tweedledee and Tweedledum. It also contains a pair of poems brilliantly absurd enough to stand on their own: the Jabberwocky and The Walrus and the Carpenter .

BURNING THROUGH GRAVITY—they soared so high so fast they never expected the fall. Two beautiful souls. Two seemingly innocent deceptions. Once they meet, Stevie and Ford explode into one another in a ball of lust, hotter than a July moon. Ford is assertive, dominate and in control, that is until Stevie brings him to his knees. He thinks she’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever met both inside and out. Stevie thinks he’s sweet, and sort of goofy—of course it doesn’t hurt that he drips sex like honey. News in Brief: Man Just Needs To Power Through Another Day Of Not Being Broke And Unemployed

CHICAGO—After listing off a litany of reasons why he cannot stand his current job, local 27-year-old Don Rutland told reporters Friday that he just needs to power through another day of not being broke and unemployed. “It’s so unbearable right now, but I’m just going to buckle down and make it to the end of the day,” said the man who is not in the midst of an agonizing nine-month job search and can pay all of his bills on time with the money from the paycheck he receives every other week. “If I can just drag my ass into that office and grind it out until 5 p.m., I’ll be good.” At press time, Rutland was reportedly heading out for drinks to unwind from another day not spent battling a chronic, debilitating illness.

Want to Make Sure Your Kids Get Over the Divorce? First, Let Them Go Through It

I’ve made a children’s picture book about what it can feel like to go through a divorce or separation. Mine doesn’t try to convince kids that the divorce is for the best. Instead, it cuts to the chase about how empty and unhelpful that phrase is to kids.

My title, Divorce Is the Worst, has provoked criticism from parents who resent any negative language around their divorce. Even recently divorced friends have told me they are reluctant to share it with their child because “he’s doing so well.” They don’t want to introduce the idea that divorce is a big deal.

Meanwhile, the book has been welcomed by kids, counselors, teachers, lawyers and librarians. In presentations to groups of kids, some yell when they hear the title: “That’s for sure!” and “You can say that again!”

Just as sex education doesn’t “give” young people the idea to have sex, acknowledging that divorce is disruptive, life-changing and often hard isn’t what makes it so.

I was 14 years old when my parents told me and my four siblings about their decision to divorce. They said it was for the best, and it was, for them. For me, it was the worst thing that could happen to our family other than a death.

My parents portrayed their divorce as a positive thing: a solution to the problem, not the problem. They told us not to let it affect us. It was a bump in the road, that’s all.

Though they claimed to also be fine with it, my mother had an edge of meanness in her voice now that was brand new; she sang along to Patti LaBelle’s “New Attitude” and discussed our father’s flaws with us. We saw Dad for dinner on Wednesdays — an awkward event we dubbed “broken home night” from which I always returned hungry (not for food, just more of him).

Though the messages from both of them were mixed, they were clearly suffering a loss. I concluded that my pain was trivial next to theirs. No one had died and I should be grateful I still had two parents. And then, God help me, I chose a side: theirs.

For the next 25 years, the two sides battled it out inside me: my parents’ need for a divorce vs. my attachment to our original family, the one that still smiles at me from childhood photos.

Lisa Spiegel, Soho Parenting cofounder and director, describes the impulse to minimize the impact of a divorce on kids as protective in its intention. “There’s this idea that to address or mention any negative feelings may make the child feel worse,” says Spiegel, who works with parents and children. “But that is not in tune with a child’s reality. Acknowledging the impact does not create the impact — it was already there.”

When children’s lives and homes unravel, people are quick to wave it away (usually as a way of comforting worried parents), saying: “Oh, kids are resilient — they’ll get over it.” Cartoonist Lynda Barry describes “the resiliency of children” in her book 100 Demons as “the ability to exist in pieces” and she calls it what it is: “a hope adults have about a child’s inner life, that it’s simple, that what can be forgotten can no longer affect us.”

“A child needs explicit permission from the adult to have their own feelings,” says Terry Real, a family therapist, best-selling author and founder of the Relational Life Institute. “Taking care of the parent implicitly or explicitly by not sharing feelings and not burdening the parent is a really bad idea for the child. The parent needs to step in and make it clear the child’s feelings are not a burden.”

Here’s my view, born of experience and supported by child therapists and divorce mediators today: until we stop telling kids the divorce is for the best (as if that is a comfort), they may continue to experience it as the worst, long after the initial announcement that rocked their world. You can’t get over something you never went through in the first place.

Real resilience is earned, by going through stuff and seeing it for what it is. In the meantime, kids aren’t resilient so much as dependent. Life comes at them. They take it in and keep going — but not because they’re so Zen. What choice do they have? Our children will love us and remain loyal to us through almost anything. That’s what kids do to survive. They will even join us in pretending.

“When there is support, processing, narrative and comfort around trauma, we tend to be able to feel our feelings and experience our pain,” Spiegel assures. “We recognize that there are other loving figures around us and move through it.”

Parents don’t have to feel guilty for their divorce or stay in an unworkable relationship. But we have to recognize that our experiences are separate from our children’s. That backpack they haul from place to place each week? It holds way more than anyone can see.

I’m not sure there’s a word in the English language that accurately describes the sadness after a breakup. Grief, the feeling reserved most commonly for death, is part of it. So, too, is suffering. Agony, remorse, self-doubt. Breakups are traumatic. They are, of course, heart-breaking. They will make you reevaluate everything you think you know, and force you into new thoughts and experiences that are often incredibly distressing. But there is also a silver lining in every breakup.

Daniel Radcliffe Has Probably Traveled Through Time Just To Mess With Us All

Are we sure time-turners don’t exist? Because Daniel Radcliffe looks an awful lot like the men and women in these old-timey photos unearthed by people on Reddit.

For a man who once wore the same outfit for months just to mess with the paparazzi, we wouldn’t put it past him to pull a prank of this scale — if, you know, magic were real. Which it’s not. Probably.

We’ll have to wait for October to roll around for his next onscreen performance, but maybe there’s another yellowing snapshot in an old shoebox tucked away in someone’s attic waiting to be discovered before then.

“Not-Daniel Radcliffe” was really living it up in the past …

Listening to some jams in the 1940s.

Reddit user gaztruman posted this supposedly 70-year-old photo of a crowd at Band on the Wall Manchester, a music venue.

Kidding around with some pals.

Reddit user microwavetea posted this photo, captioned “My grandma is a time-traveling Daniel Radcliffe.” That guy in the middle did not get the joke.

Making the most of those golden high-school days.

Pictured above with a wee Andy Samberg, Reddit user tackytick says they found this photo in an old yearbook from 1978.

Looking prim and proper with a string of pearls — and some very familiar glasses.

Reddit user gurbla posted this photo of a time-traveling wizard!!! respectable gentlewoman.

And posing prettily for the camera.

According to Reddit user Waldenponds16, this is lady is a prostitute in the 1800s. All we see is Harry having some fun.

20 Powerful Pieces Of Advice For Those Going Through A Divorce

canva

If you want solid, honest advice about the divorce process, go directly to the source. No, not your divorce attorney — divorcés themselves. Who better to counsel you through the tough, sometimes crazy-making times than someone who’s lived through all of it and come out stronger?

Below, HuffPost Divorce readers on Facebook and Twitter share the one piece of advice that meant the most to them during the divorce process.

1. “Take the high road. I took it every single time. Even when it was difficult, it was always so worth it.”

2. “Never trash talk your ex in front of the kids. You may be exes now, but your kids just see you as their parents.”

3. “Mourn. Mourn the death of your marriage like you would a loved one and mourn the husband you thought you knew.”

4. “Focus fifty percent on kids and fifty percent on yourself. Don’t forget that self-care is important, too.”

5. “Conduct yourself in a way you can be proud of later on, when the divorce is over.”

6. “Know that your decision to hang on to hurt, anger and bitterness adds no value to your life or your kids’ lives.”

7. “You need a good friend. One of my best friends told me, ‘When you feel the urge to call him, call me instead.’ She was my voice of reason during my divorce.”

8. “My attorney sent me the ‘Let it Go’ music video from ‘Frozen.’ And that’s exactly what you need to do. You need to let it go. I focused on my kids. I tried to be amicable and make sure I was honest and ignored the rumors.”

9. “Find someone that offers real, honest advice. Someone I know told me, ‘I’m sorry this happened to you. This is going to suck for a long time’ and it was refreshing to hear. It lifted a huge weight off my chest. People had been telling me things like, ‘You’ll get through this and you’re so strong!” when all I wanted to hear was the brutal honest truth.”

10. “Love your children more than you hate your ex.”

11. “Stay classy in court — and rant all about it in the company of good friends later.”

12. “Fight only for things that cannot be replaced, like the kids. The rest is just stuff, completely immaterial.”

13. “Remember that you have to live with yourself after the divorce, so take pride in what you say and do.”

14. “Know that you deserved better than what your ex gave you.”

15. “Focus on the kids. Be a guard rail they can safely bump up against when the divorce process seems like it might derail them. Be the safe spot they can run to so they don’t go over the edge.”

16. “Let go and let your lawyer do their job.”

17. “Listen to your gut. Take those baby steps toward learning to trust yourself again.

18. “Be in control of yourself and how you act during the process. Make sure you have boundaries, especially if there weren’t any in the marriage.”

19. “Don’t expect anything you didn’t receive during the marriage. If it didn’t happen then, it won’t happen during the divorce process.”

20. “Pick your battles. Some things just aren’t worth the fight.”

An Unforgettable Look At Cher Through The Years, In Honor Of The Star’s 69th Birthday

Happy birthday, Cher! The singer-actress-celebrity-personality turns 69 on Wednesday, May 20. Here are five reasons why we love her.

1. She is 69 and fierce.
Cher rocks it and flaunts it. We find that pretty inspirational. Cher is the original … so sorry Lady Gaga.

2. She needs no last name.
For those wondering, she was born Cherilyn Sarkisian but professionally is known as Cher. Sting, Madonna, Drake, Pink and Bono also do this, but think about all the others. Not even Sir Paul goes without McCartney after it.

3. She tweets.
We mean it: She REALLY tweets. Profanity and all. We especially love that she has a sense of humor about it — and that she laughed off this preposterous suggestion:

4. She has a wig closet that she cleans out periodically and donates old wigs to those undergoing cancer treatment who need them.

5. We’ve heard nothing but love and support from Cher during her son Chaz’ gender transitioning.

Acceptance. Namaste. In short, we adore you, Cher. And so, in honor of your 69th, we’ve put together an unforgettable mashup (above) that showcases the evolution of your style and spirit.

Happy birthday, lovely lady. May there be many more.

Bobby Jindal Vows To Enforce Religious Freedom Measure Through Executive Order

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) said Tuesday he plans to issue an executive order “to accomplish the intent” of a religious freedom bill that died in the Louisiana House hours before.

The Louisiana Marriage and Conscience Act (HB 707), introduced by Louisiana state Rep. Mike Johnson (R) earlier this year, would create protections for individuals who oppose same-sex marriage. Under the legislation, the state would be prohibited from taking “any adverse action against a person, wholly or partially, on the basis that such person acts in accordance with a religious belief or formal conviction about the institution of marriage.” The measure drew comparisons to controversial religious freedom bills advanced in states like Indiana, where Gov. Mike Pence (R) was pressured to amend the legislation after national criticism that the law would allow businesses to discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals.

On Tuesday, the Louisiana House Civil Law and Procedure Committee voted 10-2 to return the Marriage and Conscience Act to the calendar, effectively killing the bill. But less than two hours later, Jindal announced his plan to resurrect the spirit of the legislation.

“We are disappointed by the committee’s action to return the Louisiana Marriage and Conscience Act to the calendar,” Jindal said in a statement. “We will be issuing an Executive Order shortly that will accomplish the intent of HB 707 to prevent the state from discriminating against persons or entities with deeply held religious beliefs that marriage is between one man and one woman.”

The statement continued: “This Executive Order will prohibit the state from denying or revoking a tax exemption, tax deduction, contract, cooperative agreement, loan, professional license, certification, accreditation, or employment on the basis the person acts in accordance with a religious belief that marriage is between one man and one woman.”

Jindal, who is eyeing running for president in 2016, has maintained a hardline stance against gay marriage, and has thrown his full support behind the Louisiana bill. In a New York Times op-ed published last month, the governor said Republicans had been “bullied” into toning down similar legislation in Arkansas and Indiana.

“As the fight for religious liberty moves to Louisiana, I have a clear message for any corporation that contemplates bullying our state: Save your breath,” Jindal wrote.

“It is shameful that Gov. Jindal has decided that abusing his executive power to accomplish the goals of House Bill 707, even after it was tabled indefinitely by our legislature today, is worth more effort than fixing our disastrous state budget,” Equality Louisiana said in a Tuesday press release. “In his time in Iowa, he may have forgotten what everyday Louisianians value, but the testimony today against HB 707 should have reminded him. Discrimination is not a Louisiana value.”

JoDee Winterhof, the Human Rights Campaign’s vice president of policy and political affairs, also condemned Jindal’s plan in a Tuesday statement.

“Bobby Jindal showed today why he’s consistently named one of the nation’s least-popular governors: by ignoring his constituents, members of his own party, and business leaders who correctly understand that legislation that endorses discrimination is wrong and should be rejected,” the statement reads. “Gov. Jindal made it clear that he’s so desperate to advance his longshot presidential campaign that he’ll say or do almost anything, including enable discrimination in the name of religion.”

Jennifer Lopez Apparently Texted All Through Mariah Carey’s Billboard Awards Performance

Jennifer Lopez didn’t seem super enthralled by Mariah Carey’s performance at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night.

A video clip caught the “Booty” singer texting and scrolling through her phone while Carey sang “Infinity,” which TMZ is interpreting as a “diss.”

Lopez has denied that there is any feud between her and Carey and has insisted that she’s a fan of the singer. And while that might be true, Sunday night, she just seemed to be a bigger fan of her phone. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kevin Hart Is Encouraging Fans To Live Heathier Lifestyles Through His New Comedy Tour

Comedian Kevin Hart is leveraging his massive platform to raise health awareness through his currently ongoing “What Now” comedy tour.

As part of his new initiative, Hart has partnered with leading consumer health engagement developer Rally Health to sponsor his 45-city tour. During each tour stop, Hart will provide fans with interactive tools and encourage them to be more proactive in taking steps to living a healthier, stress free lifestyle.

While the 35-year-old Philadelphia native has attributed laughter as being “the best medicine,” he has also credited fitness as an essential component to his success and wants to encourage more fans to add it to their daily list of activities, too.

“It puts the first foot forward in being productive. It’s just about getting in the door. That’s where people lose the battle,” Hart told The Huffington Post. “If one day you don’t feel like it and don’t go, what’s to stop you from not going the next day?”

“There has to be a driving force that gets you to the point regardless of how you feel. Rally Health is not only doing that but challenging me to meet new personal goals. The more people can understand about their lifestyle, the more they can get up to move, exercise and get better results.”

Hart’s passion for fitness, laughter, and his ability to inspire people to adopt healthier habits were a few of the contributing factors for his selection as Rally Health’s first brand ambassador, says the company’s founder and CEO Grant Verstandig.

The comedian-actor underscored Verstandig’s comments by admitting the parallels between the company’s vision and his lifestyle. “My lifestyle and what I do in my day is what aligns with Rally Health,” Hart said.

“We don’t want to see people dropping like flies. It’s about getting people into the right mindset to be better by moving more, eating better and reducing your stress.”

Woman Learns She’ll Be A Grandma Through Hilarious ‘Bun In The Oven’ Prank

Note to self: If you find a bun in your kitchen oven, don’t take it lightly. That’s the lesson one woman learned in this hilarious footage featured on America’s Funniest Home Videos.

As she went to put a dish in the oven, the unsuspecting woman found a randomly placed bun inside. “Somebody’s toasting bread,” the woman named Lynnda says, thinking nothing more of the message.

It took a little more prodding before she said, “Not the bun in the oven I want!” joking with her daughter only to realize seconds later the joke was on her.

Probably one of the cutest pregnancy announcements we’ve ever seen.

Congrats, Lynnda!

Leaving a Legacy Through Personal Style

She moved with purpose and joy. She was the ultimate hostess, welcoming everyone into a perfectly decorated home. At 10 years of age, I had never seen such beautiful china, mesmerizing paintings or heard music in a living room from a baby grand piano. Mrs. L.T. Burns of Wichita Falls, Texas, was a legend during my childhood, and I was in her home.

In 1954, the Burns began to place lights and displays on their lawn at Christmas. Every year it grew grander and lines became longer. Some years, she would join Santa in welcoming the crowds and handing out candy canes to the children. My memories include her smiles and lovely coats, coveted by my mother every year of her life. One year, my church choir was caroling in front of the house when unexpectedly, Mrs. Burns invited us in for cookies. I soaked in each decoration, each kind word spoken and the music playing accompaniment as the queen of our town greeted every person in the room. Her Christmas legacy was eventually donated to the local college, Midwestern University, and is called the “MSU-Burns Fantasy of Lights,” where her memory lives on each holiday season.

Mrs. Burns’ left behind an impeccable personal style noted by joy, compassion and generosity. So many women balk at the phrase “personal style.” Most often they are only thinking of models in Vogue rather than the legacy left behind, but our style has everything to do with that legacy. In The Power of Style by Annette Tapert and Diana Edkins (Copyright 1994), 10 women are profiled for “transforming their existence into a living work of art.” They selected women who lived with discipline, a sense of humor, resourcefulness, originality, verve, fearlessness and intelligence. Women who left powerful legacies to inspire us all.

The authors remind readers it is less important to have money and more important to have purpose, for style so often is birthed from resilience over heritage. These are women who dress for every occasion — every time they leave the house — simply because they dress for themselves and no one else. They have an appreciation for the unexpected and how events work together. They do not fear what lies ahead.

I did not begin to care about my personal style until after 50. Now, how I will be remembered is something I consider. Each encounter, every day, is a part of my style. Each message I communicate with my dress, as well as my words, are a part of my style. Yet, it is important to note, style is just as much about our insides as what we wear and our home décor on the outside. An excitement for each day and decisions about how to impact others are components of style. The truth is we all have a style whether we like it or not. Perhaps, now is the time to consider what your current style looks like. If it transforms into a living work of art, what do the brush strokes say?

Stylist and television personality Stacy London writes in The Truth About Style , “Style is transformative.” I agree and know this to be true. At 50, I transformed from a depressed, dowdy, uninspired woman to a joyful, driven, diligent, purposeful one who hopes to leave a legacy of joy just as Mrs. Burns in Texas did. Maybe a 10-year-old girl is watching.

Please share with us… do you consider your style as part of your legacy?

What I Learned Through Meditation

If you’re like me and most busy women, finding time to meditate can seem almost impossible. I sometimes joked I should be meditating just so I’d stop stressing out about meditating! With a full-time job, a daily two-hour commute and two small children (one about to enter the terrible twos soon), meditation is not a luxury on my “to do” list — but a necessity like breathing.

The year 2014 brought about many unexpected and unwanted changes in my life. I was in a very deep process of grief and loss, and I was searching hard for peace and acceptance in what had happened. Meditation became my saving grace; the place I went to when the noise in my head was so loud, I couldn’t hear myself think; the place I surrendered to when the anger and rage was coursing through me and I could hardly breathe; the thing I did when I found myself in the car crying hysterically because the pain was so overwhelming. Meditating infused air into my lungs and quieted my soul… until I was able to reconnect to my center.

People think that meditating is just sitting quietly chanting “om” with no thoughts going through your head. But it is actually quite the opposite. It’s a journey into your own heart. Or at least it’s been a journey into mine. It’s the place where I hear “me” the loudest. Where the true authentic voice of who I am and who I want to be in the world is loud and clear.

It was in those quiet moments meditating I really saw my two children — their innocence and trust in me, their pure love. It was in those quiet moments I stopped judging myself. I stopped feeling sorry for myself for being a single mom and not being able to give them the stable two parent traditional childhood I myself had grown up with. It was in those quiet moments I could appreciate how much they were teaching me — their unconditional love showing me I didn’t need to be anything I thought I had to be for them other than “mommy.” A place they could curl up and snuggle their heads and bodies to feel safe.

I thought about all those years I spent talking and confiding in friends and loved ones about myself, my relationships, my troubles, analyzing every single mistake I had ever made, dissecting every one of my personality flaws — yet never making any real progress towards self-love. But it was in meditation that I was able to connect with spirit, confront my every fear, recognize the false stories I believed about myself and my life and start to embrace the amazing woman I was without judgement.

It was through meditation that I learned gratitude: I actually started to be grateful for the horrible experience that I’d just been through and was still living. I was learning courage and grace. I was learning vulnerability. I was learning how to “receive.” I was learning self-love. I was learning my journey is on-going and there was no “finish line” I had to cross.

So for those of you who still think you don’t have time to meditate. Ask yourself: “How badly do I want to know the answers to life’s great mysteries?” Because all of the answers lie within you. With some simple meditation.

How to Help Children Ages 6-12 Through Your Divorce

School-age children ages 6 through 12 can be highly impacted by divorce. Children of this age group are trying to integrate their parents’ separation. This can be only done in relation to their own stage of development. It is most important at this time that you do not speak negatively about your ex-spouse. That can only serve to confront your child’s own sense of self and identity. The better you and your ex can get along after divorce, the easier it is for your children to adjust.

You can help minimize the negative effects of divorce on children in this age group by working together, as a team, on the following:

  1. Ensure a stable and consistent visitation schedule. This gives your child a structure that can create security.
  2. Do not create conflict during visitation exchanges.
  3. Do not burden your children with your own emotional problems. If necessary, see a counselor, but don’t stress your child.
  4. Maintain communication with teachers and school personnel. Partner with your child’s school counselor and teachers by letting them know what is happening. This way, they can help keep an eye out for, and alert you to, unusual behavior, such as missing schoolwork, not paying attention in class or aggressive behavior.
  5. Know your child’s history. If your child has problems with stress, it will be more difficult for him to adapt to separation. This child needs good parenting from both parents, which includes safety, love, nurturing, meeting needs and understanding.
  6. Age-appropriate communication is paramount. Be open with your child and answer his questions with as much gentle honesty as you can. However, don’t put your child in a loyalty double-bind, and don’t question him about your ex.
  7. Allow your children to have a voice in the day-to-day decisions. This can include helping to decide on the new sleeping arrangements, home décor such as sheets, blankets, pillows and bedspreads and where to go on Spring Break. This also means allowing your children to have a voice in creating new family traditions. When parents divorce, children often feel out of control because they didn’t have a say or any options in the decision to divorce. These small experiences of choice help your children feel invested in their new family.
  8. Finally, use my Empathic Process. The Empathic Process is an approach I developed for parents and children to communicate in a safe and open space. It teaches children how to talk to their parents about their feelings, while parents actively listen without defense. Then parents get a chance to speak. Ultimately, parents and children speak together solving their problem, by investing each participant in the solution. This undefended experience creates a safe space in which parent and child can return when needed.

How My Divorce Helped Me Get Through My Mother’s Death

I went home to Portland, Oregon to celebrate New Year’s in the waning days of December 2011. In the few months since my previous visit, I had decided to end my marriage to my husband of three years — and closest friend for nearly seven. He’d be moving out of our Brooklyn apartment while I was away. I was 29.

What It’s Like To Go Through Life Having Met Your Dad Only Twice

It’s been over a year since I wrote my last letter to my bio-dad and even though I try very hard to act like it doesn’t bother me, it does. My parents called it quits when I was 2 years old and not long after, they had both moved on. My stepdad made up for it in every way; he told me I was beautiful in my prom dress and got teary when he walked me down the aisle.

2015-03-08-1425842536-6867931-1237133_333879506748492_2048425840_n.jpg

II don’t know if it affects me more because I am a parent or perhaps it’s just a stage. The first time I really broke down, I was 11. My mom had managed to track down my dad, after not hearing from him since I was 6. I was angry. I wrote him a letter outlining the many things that he had missed out on during the last 10 years, how I didn’t understand how he could go on, get married, have kids and never even think to SMS, call or just pop by.

My mom is a decent ex and can’t be blamed. Still to this day, she scolds me if I put my dad down; she reassures me and tells me of the man she married and somewhere, somehow, that man must be lost. She encourages me to speak to him and make the effort. Still today, I know that she is the one who shares pictures of my child with him.

I have written many letters, some that I regret for being so harsh. I wish that he knew how those words reflected my hurt; I felt abandoned and alone. I look at my husband who can’t handle leaving us while he goes to work. How he takes the time to teach my son new things, cuddle him and reassure him throughout the day. My uncle once called us to say that my father was leaving the country the next day. Can you imagine meaning so little to your parent and not being told that he is leaving?

I’ve only ever seen my dad twice. Once, when I was 6. His wife was pregnant so my mom helped me pick out an outfit for the baby and came with us to lunch. My dad bought me a dress-up set which I loved. But that night, the emotions were overwhelming and I cried into my mom’s open arms. When I was 13, my parents agreed to send me overseas to see him. My mom and step-dad made sure that I wouldn’t need anything. They bought me an entire new wardrobe and enough toiletries to last six months. My grandparents handed me over to a stranger at the airport — a man who only had a supervised lunch under his belt of parenting experiences with his oldest daughter.

I don’t think that anyone considered the emotions that I had to go through or just how big the trip was. I wish that I could have enjoyed it and made the best of the opportunity, but the emotional turmoil was just too much and I flew back two weeks earlier than planned.

Recently, I asked my husband if he thought I would see my dad again and as the words escaped my lips, I regretted it — I already knew the answer. He replied with a firm “No.” Deep down, I expected it. But hearing it from someone else hit me hard. My dad won’t ever get to meet the two men who light up my life: my husband and son. He won’t know what makes me happy, my dreams and wishes. He won’t know anything more than my name and how many birthdays he has missed.

It’s not okay for you to turn your back on your children or to think that by not having any involvement in their life, you are doing them a favor. They don’t want you there? Fight harder. You’ve done wrong? Don’t let it define you, work at it and prove yourself. But don’t ever give up. There is nothing worse than feeling like your parent just gave up on you and forgot about you. Children need their parents — all of them. I thank my lucky stars for my step-dad and I am exceptionally grateful for my mom. But just because I have amazing parents, it still doesn’t fill the gap that my father left.

Your role as a parent doesn’t end with signing on the dotted line. You owe it to your children to be there, to fight for them, to not expect them to put in the effort to be your child, but for you to put in the time, patience and effort into being their parent.

Life Coach Zachary Koval Discusses Finding Personal Acceptance Through His Queerness

2015-02-25-ZachGaze.jpg
Portrait by Daniel Jack Lyons

I’ve been conducting this series of interviews for over a year, primarily focusing on queer artists, but I realized that artists aren’t the only people whose work may be influenced or inspired by their queer identity. So I decided to open up my interviews and start talking to people with all kinds of jobs. With this in mind, I contacted Zachary Koval. He’s a busy man: He’s a personal trainer and life coach, primarily helping people with coming out or switching to a plant-based diet. We sat down to chat on a cold New York afternoon.

Phillip M. Miner: How long have you been out?

Zachary Koval: I came out to my parents in the eighth grade. After that it was a gradual process, from slowly telling friends to kissing a boy in the cafeteria my junior year. Both of my parents were very supportive. Personally becoming OK with my sexuality and not caring what other people thought was the biggest challenge. When I came out to my parents, I told them that I never wanted to talk about it again. I told friends and then ended up recanting the next day and jumping back in the closet. I think there’s a perception that coming out is a onetime event, but it’s definitely a continuum and process.

PM: Through some online research (aka Instagram stalking) I learned that you’re involved with the radical faeries. How did that influence your coming-out process?

ZK: I learned about the radical faeries from a high-school friend who connected with them after we graduated. They were something that really intrigued me — the freedom of expression, the connection to the spirit, the Earth, and to generations beyond my own. Exploring those things also completely terrified me. At that time, all that expression and sexuality wasn’t something I was comfortable with, but I still was attracted to the alternative way of being, outside the ever-present bar scene. It wasn’t until I moved to New York and met some friends who invited me to a large gathering in Tennessee for May Day that I finally got courage enough to go. Ever since, it’s been an amazing experience of learning about — and creating — myself. I’m seeing where I am and where I’m comfortable pushing past and growing. It’s not about conforming to what the mainstream says I should be or what I think that guy over there wants me to be. It’s been about finding, creating, and defining myself from the inside.

PM: I understand that. I naïvely thought that after I came out, that would be that and everything would be sorted. It’s been over a decade now, and I’m still figuring stuff out.

ZK: It’s definitely an interesting realization that we’re not done yet and probably will never be, but that’s the fun of it, I think. I went to a gay social boxing club called Velvet Gloves here in the city and found myself automatically self-correcting my stance and movements. The voice in my head was saying, “You’re standing very gay right now,” even as I was standing in a room full of gay men! I didn’t even realize I still had that kind of deep internalized self-shame! I like to think I’m completely comfortable with being gay, but there are still these pieces that have yet to be reconciled.

2015-02-25-ZachSmile.jpg
Portrait by Daniel Jack Lyons

PM: Does this sort of reconciliation happen in your life coaching?

ZK: Definitely. What’s really important to me is helping my clients find integrity in their lives and work to integrate all the different pieces of themselves. I think we have so many parts of ourselves: who we are at work, who we are with friends, and who we are at home. For many, those can be completely different people. This separation is what most of us do to survive day to day, being gay and/or other; we are no exception. Sometimes the different sides of us separate more and more, and we lose the sense of who we are. What I do is support clients in starting to bring those pieces back together to create a whole person.

PM: How do you go about doing that?

ZK: Through reflection, awareness, and action. While I work with clients on specific projects, we focus just as much on what’s happening on the inside and who they’re being about it. Many people concentrate on doing something in order to be something, trying to fix something they think is wrong or broken within them. In coaching I come at it in the other direction. It’s about being first. By recognizing you are whole, the doing comes naturally.

PM: I think I get it, but can you give me an example of how you’ve done this for yourself?

ZK: I grew up with a body image of myself being entirely too skinny, so I was always going to the gym, trying to put on weight and put on muscle to fix what I saw as wrong with me, chasing the proverbial unattainable carrot always held out in front of me. It drove me on but also [kept] me unhappy and unfulfilled. As long as I believed myself broken, it didn’t matter how many reps at the gym I lifted; they’d never be enough. It wasn’t until I began to address my own thoughts around my self-worth that I began to see changes. I connected my physical fitness goals with my overall health, ethics, and values. I’ve seen my dad deal with some serious health problems, and I didn’t want to go through that myself. Being vegan and my fitness journey are both a part of that.

2015-02-25-ZachHairinFace.jpg
Portrait by Daniel Jack Lyons

PM: I know it’s important to you, so could you talk more about your veganism?

ZK: It connects to so many things that are bigger than myself: the environment and climate change, world hunger, and animal suffering. I very much see veganism as an exercise in my personal integrity, connecting and bringing my intentions, words, and actions into alignment. I want to set an example that you can be healthy, fit, and even thrive on a vegan diet. Our diets are often just another example of our dissociation. We are disconnected from where our food comes from and the violence involved in producing it. Being vegan is more than just the action and choice of not consuming animals. It is also a synthesis of personal values and beliefs, which lead to those actions. On the other side, eating meat is also a choice, and one that is backed also by a certain set of values and beliefs, a belief system and ideology called “carnism.” By recognizing this, we can see that it’s not just “the way things are.” We can also begin to examine our actions and make empowered choices and changes rather than just being at the effect of the existing paradigm.

PM: That is important, like how “straight” didn’t exist until we defined “gay.” Final question: You’re goal-driven, so what’s next?

ZK: I have my life coaching. I have my personal training. I have my vegan lifestyle, and my acting as well. I want to bring them all together. Like I’ve been saying, it’s all about integration. I’m interested in traveling and giving talks as well as creating a plant-based, vegan fitness center, complete with workshops, classes, coaching, and training. I’m also currently working on an ensemble theatrical piece and a one-man show — a lot of exciting things coming up!

A Question Every Person Going Through a Divorce Asks

It’s a question that every person going through divorce asks: How Do I Get Over this Hurt? They ask their friends, their family, their therapist, even themselves. They also ask me. And here is how I answer.

In most cases, when two people get divorced, one person wants it and the other doesn’t. I always have a hard time deciding whose shoes I’d rather be in because both breaking up with someone and being the one broken up with are gut-wrenching.

Here’s a benefit of being the one broken up with: Unlike the person who ended the relationship, the person who was broken up with will never have doubt that they did the right thing, or that things might have been different had they tried harder, or even that they miss the person and realize later they made a huge mistake.

The person who was broken up with didn’t have a choice. Their ex wanted the divorce. So, there is no self-doubt, guilt, or indecision. It was done to them.

Now, is that easy to deal with? Absolutely not. It is brutal. But, here is one thing that might help you get over the hurt. Pretend I am a psychic who is able to see into your future. And, let’s say you are a woman, and this is what I predict for you:

It is five years from now. You are sitting at a kitchen table having dinner with an attractive man, who seems really happy being there. On your left ring finger is a diamond and a wedding band. The two of you are laughing. You look very very happy.

Here’s the thing. No one knows (including me) that this will be your scenario, and I don’t even know if being remarried is what you want. My point of painting this beautiful picture of your possible future is that you WILL have a beautiful future, and you WILL get a life that is happy and that works for you. It just takes time, and you have to go through the misery of your divorce to get to the other side (the happiness side.)

Remember that movie, The Shawshank Redemption, where Tim Robbins escapes from prison by crawling through a sewer pipe? It’s kind of like that. He had to spend 20 years digging a hole in his cell, and then he had to crawl through crap (literally) to get to deserved freedom and ultimate happiness. You are in that hole right now. I was there. So was every person who has ever gone through a divorce. But you will come out of it and have a future. It might be the future I just described, or it might be something else, perhaps a career you are passionate about, or a new hobby that changes your life. The beauty of it is that your future is your choice!

Thinking this way is how you get over the hurt. Grieve the loss, feel sorry for yourself for a little while, (not too long) and then get tough and start to rebuild. Focus on figuring out what you want — career, hobbies, friends, etc. and then go get it! As for future romantic relationships, it’s natural to feel scared that if you put your heart out there again, someone could do to you what your husband or wife did. But, try to overcome that fear because if you put your heart out there again, some guy (maybe the guy at your kitchen table) might love and cherish you forever. Ask yourself if it’s worth the risk.

You WILL get over this hurt. You just will. Changing the way you think about it helps.
