So Fly: Bally Prepares to Take Tokyo With Swizz Beatz x Shok-1 Project

LONDON — Halloween may be three weeks away, but Bally is already dreaming of skeletons, flies and skulls, part of its new collaboration with Swizz Beatz, and the London-based spray paint artist known as Shok-1.
Bally will reveal the capsule accessories collection on Wednesday during a flash, two-day visit to Tokyo where Shok-1 will also unveil a mural on the side of Park Building in Shibuya and host a pop-up gallery at the brand’s Ginza flagship, its largest store at 8,640 square feet.
This is the latest collaboration between Bally and Kasseem Dean, the music producer known as Swizz Beatz, who works with the Swiss brand to find talent for one-off collections.
This latest offer includes totes, clutches, high-tops and hoodies with Shok-1’s delicate X-ray paintings of flies, skeleton torsos and bony hands that form one of music’s favorite gestures, a fist with the pinkie and index fingers extended.

Frédéric de Narp, Bally’s chief executive officer, said the brand and Swizz Beatz were both eager to work with Shok-1, a British artist who began his career as a chemist and who is now known for his graceful, large-scale murals, some of which are

EXCLUSIVE: Dior to Stage First Men’s Pre-Fall Runway Show in Tokyo

PARIS — In the latest sign that Dior is beefing up its men’s business, the French fashion house plans to stage its first men’s pre-fall runway show with a collection designed by Kim Jones scheduled to bow in Tokyo on Nov. 30, WWD has learned exclusively.
The choice of location reflects not just the brand’s long-term relationship with the country, but also the British designer’s fondness for Japan and the strategic importance of the Asian market.
The show will coincide with a Dior men’s pop-up at department store Isetan in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district, set to open on Nov. 28 for two weeks, that will carry the first collection designed by Jones. The capsule line for summer 2019 will simultaneously go on sale at the Dior flagship in Ginza ahead of its global launch on Dec. 1.
Jones told WWD in July the capsule would include denim pieces embroidered with Dior’s signature bee, as reimagined by U.S. artist Kaws, whose real name is Brian Donnelly, who also designed a monumental floral sculpture for the designer’s debut Dior show in Paris in July.
The spring collection featured new accessories, including a men’s version of the Saddle bag; belts with a stylized CD buckle created by Matthew

Fortuna Tokyo RTW Spring 2018

Akiko Koba aims to support Japanese craftsmanship by using traditional woven silk fabrics in her collections. For her first presentation during Tokyo Fashion Week, she showed tailored suits and preppy cuffed shorts and polo shirts for men, and short suits, tweed jackets, and swing dresses for women. While the silhouettes have been seen countless times before, the textiles were beautiful.

Philippines Fashion Meets Tokyo RTW Spring 2016

This season marked the first time that designers from the Philippines presented their collections during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo. While each of the three brands’ offerings varied greatly, common themes were sustainable materials and inspiration from the natural world.

It’s rare for an accessory brand to be capable of standing alone in a runway show, but Ken Samudio’s pieces were bold enough to pull focus away from any clothes his models were wearing. The former marine biologist and college professor presented multidimensional statement necklaces, cuffs and clutches made from recycled plastic drink bottles to mimic coral reefs and creatures of the sea.

Also inspired by sea life, John Herrera’s collection focused on bioluminescence, the phenomenon that makes some underwater creatures glow in the dark. Black minidresses trimmed in bright orange and green ruffles shared the runway with several all-black pieces, such as a floor-length coat and a series of ponchos. Body-hugging dresses with supersheer panels left very little to the imagination, creating a sexiness that at times felt forced.

Renan Pacson showed black and white streetwear with Escher-inspired geometric prints. He used high-tech fabrics such as mesh, jersey and a metallic bronze bonded-plastic material to create lightweight sleeveless tops, hooded coats, pants and

Céline to Sponsor Art Show at Palais de Tokyo

POETRY IN MOTION: Céline, which underwrote the 2013 Isa Genzken exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, is now getting behind a buzzy exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
The fashion house is supporting “Ugo Rondinone: I (Heart) John Giorno,” slated to run from Oct. 21 to Jan. 10 and billed as the first retrospective of the life and work of the American poet Giorno, a key figure of the American underground scene of the Sixties. Rondinone conceived the showcase, delving into Giorno’s role in Andy Warhol’s early films and such prescient viral strategies as Dial-A-Poem.

Gaultier Hits Tokyo to Launch Japan Apparel Collection

Jean Paul Gaultier held court at the French embassy in Tokyo on Wednesday to launch his collection for Japanese retail giant Seven & i Holdings. The project is Gaultier’s first fashion foray outside couture since he discontinued his own pret-a-porter line last year.
The designer said he was overwhelmed by the work involved in producing luxury ready-to-wear and the need to churn out several collections a year.
“I wanted to concentrate on what I like. What do I like? To make couture. To make pret-a-porter also, but not like the way it is now, because now you have to make pre-collection, cruise, all that, you know, which is a lot a lot of demand. And it doesn’t really stop…which is not good, because we have no time to think,” Gaultier told a press conference. “So I prefer to be free of that, and to make some capsules and some experiences and some new adventures that give me more freedom. And in that way I feel more free and more energetic and a little more excited.”
The line, called Jean Paul Gaultier for Sept Premieres, goes on sale Wednesday online and at Seibu and Sogo department stores and Ito Yokado general stores across Japan.

The Best Street Style from Tokyo Fashion Week

Photographed by Kira/TokyoFashion.com

Street style cliques in New York, London, Milan, and Paris run the gamut, from the models off duty to the bloggers in freebies, and the editors who prowl the pavement between shows. But we dare you to find a place where people wear their sartorial heart on their sleeve more than Tokyo: Here is where the true streetwear obsessives take root, where a long-tressed man with a Givenchy-meets-Grimes take on face-jewelry sports a dominatrix harness over a sweatshirt emblazoned with Kim Jong-un. There are the blinding highlighter hues of the kawaii crew, all neon, star-sprinkled knee socks and cyber-girl platforms. And of course, there’s the Comme des Garçons, from larger-than-life satanically-curled guarachero boots to the cultish (and eyeless) quilted pyramid headgear from the house’s red spring 2015 show.

But there is more to Tokyo street style than the purely outré: Take the showgoer dressed in natty 1930s-style tailoring, complete with two-tone brogues, boater hat, and walking cane, or those who lean towards minimalism with a mandarin collar jacket, but still add their own twist with a pair of gothic nineties platforms. One woman, dressed in what would seem to be a simple head-to-toe look of layered whites and creams, adds a dose of eccentricity via oversize, flipped-out pockets, proving that no matter how out-of-this-world fashion gets, it’s still all about the details.
