Azealia Banks Trending For Beefing With Cardi B, Not Her Music, As Usual

Source: Mayweather vs McGregor Pre-Event VIP Party Red Carpet at T-Mobile Arena Featuring: Cardi B Where: Las Vegas, Nevada, United States When: 26 Aug 2017 Credit: Judy Eddy/WENN.com

Cardi B responded to the criticism that Azealia Banks, once again, sent her way in a recent interview with The Breakfast Club. The Bronx rapper went in on Banks by breaking down what she had to say about her (she called Cardi a “caricature.”).

“A woman who constantly finds joy in belittling black women (Beyonce, Rihanna, Skai Jackson, Remy Ma), cant try and stand for them because it’s convenient,” wrote Cardi. “The difference between me and you, I’ve never pretended to be or represent someone I’m not! I’ve made it where I am for being myself and staying true to that.”

Belcalis wasn’t done.

She added, “You busy trying to be a voice of reason and representative for women of color when you can’t even reason with yourself. You can’t understand where your insecurities come from and why your [sic] not happy in your OWN skin so you think because YOU can’t figure your sh*t out that you can create confusion for me, make me unsure about who I am! I know who I am! A daughter to a Hispanic father and a carribean [sic] mother and I’m proud of that!”

Of course, Azealia Banks had to respond in not so kind.

“I spoke about it for all of two minutes in an interview and you respond by calling me unattractive…mentioning my bleaching my skin and telling me to “‘suck your ass’ immediately proving yourself to be exactly who I thought .you were…A bird,” wrote Banks in her own now deleted post.

Banks definitely went in, extensively. After the clapback of the clapback, Cardi seems to have deleted or at least deactivated her Instagram.

Imagine if Azealia Banks used this same energy to promote her actual music and not talk ish about everyone else? Just saying.

Deez Nutz Is Trending Because…Dr. Dre

Dr. Dre dropped the The Chronic in 1992, and it’s still resonating in 2015. No one expected a Republican presidential candidate called “Deez Nuts” to be polling in North Carolina, though.

Reports the New York Daily News:

The 2016 race for the Republican presidential nomination is officially nuts — “Deez Nuts.”

The race, which already comprises 17 major candidates, got an additional entrant this week who has fashioned his name after an infamous rap song.

A person named “Deez Nuts” filed official paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run for President Sunday, CBS News reported, joining more than 500 other random contenders who have the legal right to run for the presidency.

More shockingly, however, is how well Nuts, who is running as an independent, is faring in the key state of North Carolina, where, according a to a Public Policy Polling poll, the mysterious figure got the support of 9% of likely voters.

While Welven Da Great recently re-popularized “Deez Nuts”—and created the catch phrase “Got ’em!”—for the current generation, it all started with the D.R.E.

What’s Trending With Tara: Culottes

2015-08-19-1440014811-4394917-Tara_Toggage_Resized.jpg

At this point, I am sure you received the memo — culottes are cool. Hip and chic, these trousers are a modern alternative to the midi-skirt. The hem hits mid-calf and the leg is cut wide, so even though they top the style charts, the silhouette can leave you looking squat if not styled correctly. Looking stumpy is not something I endorse; however, I cannot deny the freshness of these pants and feel very confident we will be seeing them grace the streets on the most fashionable come fall, as well. And since there are so many options out there that won’t break the bank, I felt there is no better time than now to master the culotte!

After scouting around, one version I found easy to execute is the culotte jumpsuit. Because of the nature of a jumpsuit, there is no break in material, pattern or color from head-to-hem so the result is lengthening to compensate for the choppiness of the culotte. I also found that when wearing this type of bottom, if you keep your top half fitted, it balances out the volume in the leg. And more over, if you are daring enough to bare a bit of skin on top, it will offset the awkwardness of the hem and alternatively highlight the exposed skin on the ankle instead.

Rocking culottes right now will instantly give you style game. The fact that they are not quite pants and not quite shorts makes them ideal for in-between weather, wearing on city streets and easy transitioning from work to play. I encourage you to hop on board with me and give these trousers a try while keeping these tips in mind:

  • Always seek to stretch out your frame and appear taller. One way to do so is by eliminating the breaks in the silhouette. Selecting a jumpsuit version is not the only way to do this. Wearing one color head-to-toe will also do the trick, check out What’s Trending With Tara Monochromatic for more on that.
  • Wear heals, the higher the better. Showing skin around the ankle and choosing one with a pointed toe will help create a longer silhouette.
  • Seek out culottes that have a high waist. This way, if you dare to ditch your heels and opt for pure comfort instead, the high waistline gives the illusion of a longer hip-to-toe ratio, i.e. longer legs!
  • Try coupling a high-waisted pair with a crop top or a form-fitting top tucked in to accentuate a small waist. This will bring sexy back to a somewhat androgynous look.
  • And lastly, try to avoid busy prints and stick to basic colors like navy, black, ivory, or tan. Let the pants’ shape speak for itself.

Here are some options to consider helping narrow your search:

Zara — cropped high waisted trousers

Shopbop — culotte jumpsuit

ASOS — wide leg pants

Mango — palazzo culottes

Topshop — culotte jumpsuit

Armani Exchange — chambray culottes

Loft — cropped linen sailor pants

Zara — cropped wide leg trousers

Silver-Gray Hair Trending Strong, Makes Move From Red Carpet to Streets

The new silver-gray is trending strong this summer and we’re seeing it beautifully accented with vivid colors like green, purple, pink … you name it!

Just when we think we’ve seen it all, we haven’t. We’re coloring our hair gray, and it works! And while most of this has been on the red carpets these colors are moving fast to the streets.

Beware, though, this is a hair color that is extremely difficult to achieve. What we want is a soft, shimmering silver with subtle variations. Try this at home at you may end up with something that looks more like ‘old-age’ gray or Halloween alien gray. So leave the box on the drug store shelf and head for your trusted stylist.

Then have fun. You’re in good company. “Once Upon a Time” star Ginnifer Goodwin just showed up for an appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con in a short pixie with silver hair in the softest most subtle shade of lavender. So beautiful, and that subtlety in the lavender is part of what’s so hard to get. Lady Gaga wore her hair in a silver blend at the Academy Awards in February. She usually does ‘outrageous’ but this style had a beautiful, understated look.

Of course, this isn’t about looking ‘old.’ It doesn’t look old at all. Think about Zosia Mamet of “Mad Men.” She went with a soft silvery gray … with natural brown roots! This is the opposite, literally, of what it means to have gray roots.

It seems this style has been emerging but has finally hit the streets this spring and strongly this summer.

The look lends itself to many variations, and may even be a momentary path of salvation for the ombre, which had dissolved almost to extinction in the last year. With this silver-gray trend, while we’re seeing some very soft, subtle blends with some of the vivid colors, we’re also finding more distinct and striking gradations, like the ones that defined the ombre before that style faded. We’ll see.

Holding ground are the natural colors with very soft, subtle color transitions with natural waves. The bobs are very popular, and this versatile cut works extremely well with these silver-gray blends. I still expect those natural colors to dominate the styles but it is so great to see something really different take hold … it’s been a while!

That’s as good a reason as any to jump on this color style while it’s here. It is so attractive, and distinct but not at all outrageous. As fast as this silvery trend emerged, another may be close by waiting, so ride the wave while it’s strong, because a new one is probably right around the corner.

As always, be open to change!

Skin Lightening Cream Injections Trending Among Kenya’s Wealthiest

Controversy has always surrounded the practice of skin-lightening, but not enough to hinder its popularity in various communities around the world.

On River Road in Nairobi — a crowded marketplace with a reputation for black market transactions and bribed law enforcement — a beauty fad has taken Kenya’s elite by storm. Expensive injections of topical skin-lightening cream has become wildly popular in the Kenyan capital.

Elite Daily reports that the mercury level in skin-whitening creams hint to the dangerous nature of the chemicals used to alter complexion, but without regulation there is still much to learn about the bodily effects of the relatively new craze. Harvard graduate and dermatologist Dr. Pranav Pancholi explained to Vice the danger in exactly how little is known about the health risks involved with the process.

The products used on the streets are not used by certified professionals. The trade in black market creams and injections is completely unregulated. There is no way of knowing just how dangerous they are.

But health risks are no match against the cosmetic phenomenon’s rooting in colorism — what Oprah describes as a “light skin dark skin prejudice, when people of color discriminate against each other with people within their own race.”

Rose — a River Road vendor who has been whitening her own skin for years, as well as her clients’ — explained to Vice its cultural significance in her community, where everyone from national celebrities to clients from India and Somalia pay up to $ 70 for one treatment.

“The injection lightens you from inside. It makes women clean. If you want an even color and fast results, injecting is much better than a cream.”

Kenya is not alone in this trend — Jamaica has faced a similar epidemic, and American celebrities and publications have been called out for apparent digital lightening of Beyoncé, Lupita Nyong’o and India Arie.

Bleaching, whitening, and lightening techniques have also been criticized in documentaries like “Dark Girls” and NBA star Andre Iguodala’s denouncing of his own bobble head — but studies show that skin tone bias is very much a reality.

The stigmatized standard of light skin is far from over in Kenyan society, as one of Rose’s clients told Vice, “Nairobi is very competitive and Kenyan men like women with whiter skin.”
