Versace Resort 2019

The personification of the Medusa. For resort, creative director Donatella Versace brought the brand’s iconic logo to life. From being a signature detail, the Medusa has become a feminine character, the strong, independent and beautiful woman inspiring the collection.
Her powerful attitude was reflected in the bold silhouettes, featuring constructed, strong shoulders and tight waistlines enhanced by big belts with eye-catching metallic buckles. Masculine blazers were tucked into high-waisted pencil skirts, while T-shirts layered under bustier tops were paired with pleated pants showing the waist embellished with chunky zippers. These also punctuated the sculpted blazers and the hyper-feminine dresses crafted from checkered and houndstooth fabrics with a mannish feel.
The Nineties vibe echoing in the shapes was exalted by the same decade’s Versace vintage logo splashed on oversize hoodies and denim separates, while a sort of mythological tale was the protagonist of a multicolor print, recalling antiques frescos, giving a flamboyant accent to shirts and pleated midi skirts.
Inspired by an archival motif, the new Alphabet pattern was introduced on a wide range of pieces, from a chic knitted twinset to a wrap dress recalling Gianni Versace’s first draped pieces, which were also celebrated through a group of nylon frocks.
Sophisticated embroideries, intriguing fringes and

Versace Men’s Fall 2018

“Go big – and go home,” was Donatella Versace’s rallying cry for this joyful, post-modern mash-up of preppy, punk, street – and Versace Home accessories. She said the season was all about “dressing in layers” and smiled as she talked about the home furnishings flourishes on the clothes: Thick, gold fabric fringe snaking its way across jackets and sweatshirts, fabric tassels swinging from bags and belt hoops, and bold swirling medallion prints on puffers, coats and long hoodie tops.
This standout collection had an exaggerated, Archie Comics feel to it – but more the updated Riverdale version – what with the bright, clashing colors, mixed-up plaid patchworks and printed silks. The designer sliced up tartans of different shapes, colors and sizes and patched them back together for men’s and women’s jackets, coats and quilted shirts, and layered turtlenecks and sweaters in eye-searing shades of orange, lime green and fuchsia under sharply-tailored pinstripe suits. Velvets covered with Versace medallion and shadowy stained-glass window prints were scattered across stretchy dresses, puffers with attitude and fluid track bottoms that could have doubled as pajamas.
A tiger print prowled across long coats and short jackets while a more romantic Venus and Cupid one flashed across electric

Notable Models Front Versace Spring 2018 Ads

Prints! Colors! Supermodels! Versace’s ad campaign for spring seems to call for exclamation marks.
Segueing from the strong collection Donatella Versace designed for spring as a tribute to her late brother Gianni on the 20th anniversary of his death, the campaign emphasizes the newly revisited archival prints. The fashion show in September ended with five of Gianni Versace’s favorite models — Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Carla Bruni, Helena Christensen and Claudia Schiffer — posing in a tableaux vivant and walking the length of the runway with artistic director Donatella Versace, which made for the social media moment of Milan Fashion Week.
The ad campaign due to bow on Dec. 18  is yet another tribute to supermodel-dom as the images by Steven Meisel are fronted by Campbell; Christy Turlington; Gisele Bündchen; Natalia Vodianova; Raquel Zimmermann; Irina Shayk; Gigi Hadid; Kaia Gerber; Vittoria Ceretti; Cara Taylor; Birgit Kos; Grace Elizabeth, and Noah Luis Brown. “Naomi had to be by my side for this very special campaign celebrating Gianni….She is family to me,” Versace said.
“It has been amazing shooting this campaign surrounded by all of my friends and some of Gianni’s to whom this collection is a tribute,” she continued. “I felt so many different emotions at the same time, but

Versace Said Eyeing Kim Jones

MILAN — The intrigue deepens at the House of Versace.
According to sources here, the Italian fashion company has held discussions to bring on designer Kim Jones, currently men’s artistic director at Louis Vuitton.
No contract has been signed and the likelihood of a deal could not immediately be learned. It is understood that the biggest barrier is a contractual one: Last year, the Englishman renewed his employment agreement at Vuitton, which he joined in 2011.
Interviewed on the sidelines of the Versus show in London on Sunday, Versace chief executive officer Jonathan Akeroyd declined all comment. A Vuitton spokeswoman also declined comment, while Jones could not be reached for comment.
Versace’s overtures to Jones follow a failed effort to bring on Riccardo Tisci, who exited Givenchy earlier this year after 12 years at the French house.
Donatella Versace — who has led the design effort since the murder 20 years ago of her brother, founder Gianni Versace — is said to be on board with a plan to bring on new creative talent to assist her in the revitalization of the company.
Her minority partner The Blackstone Group, which took a 20 percent stake in the Italian house in 2014, maintains it has never set out to replace

Versace to Show at New Milan Venue

SWITCHING SITES: For the first time in several seasons, Versace will not hold its runway show at its Milanese palazzo on Via Gesù, near luxury shopping street Via Montenapoleone.

To accommodate the larger number of guests and streamline the calendar of Milan Fashion Week, the company has opted for one show only — not two as in the past — to be held Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. at the former Milan fairgrounds on Piazza VI Febbraio. The latter venue has 1,043 seats, compared with 476 seats per each show at the Via Gesù headquarters.

Atelier Versace Couture Fall 2015

There are different ways to look at couture. One maintains that to survive, couture must embrace modernity inclusive of a realistic approach to day clothes. Au contraire, says Donatella Versace. She maintains that haute modernity means accepting the triumph of ready-to-wear by day, and that the future of couture – her couture, anyway – is at night.

In recent seasons, Versace has sculpted more than her signature corsetry; she has shaped with perfect clarity this unapologetic approach to couture that puts hyper-sculpted, hand-worked jackets over similarly assembled minis and tight pants in the rearview mirror.

Once again on Sunday night Versace drove home the point, focusing on a woman with a vibrant nightlife, preferably inclusive of major red-carpet moments. She did so with greater grace and, dare one say, discretion, than spring’s often harsh, cutout curves fest. The runway – a low Lucite platform encasing thousands of orchids arranged in geometric color clusters separated by light rods – suggested a return to pretty. “I call the collection tough, but ethereal at the same time,” Versace said backstage after the show. “I wanted to explore the softer side of the Versace woman.”

And so she did, in a woodland creature-cum-Stevie Nicks reverie in which

Versace Resort 2016

For resort, Donatella Versace reprised the Versace emojis she introduced for fall on sweatshirts emblazoned with bright letters that spelled out the house name and the Medusa image. There were also lingerie-inspired slips and tailored jackets spliced with micro-floral printed panels for a nice contrast of structure and fluidity.

The collection’s emojis, bright colors — acid green, pink and yellow — and shower-sandal slides were the kind of bright, kitschy stuff that make a kooky picture that may or may not generate a lot of “likes,” but it all felt like a desperate bid to communicate with youth. Versace already has a very defined language of sexy confidence and chic swagger, which was lost in translation in this collection.

Donatella Versace On The Secret To Her Success

Becoming Versace
By Serena Tibaldi Photos by Rahi Rezvani

“I made a lot of mistakes to begin with. Then I learnt to trust myself. The secret of my success? Work.” — Donatella Versace

Versace knows her own mind. On fashion, Italy, politics. And a celebrity endorsement, Lady Gaga.

versace1

“My life is boring. I know, nobody believes me, but I get up early, work all day and spend my evenings at home either on my own or with my kids, Allegra and Daniel (Allegra, 27, works with mom, while Daniel, 24, is studying in London), even if their chief occupation is to call into question everything I do. Classic.”

Donatella Versace smiles, knowing that this “normality” is the part few would imagine about her. It only takes a couple of comments to understand that beyond the platinum hair, the stiletto heels, the electronic cigarettes (which replaced real ones a year ago –- “and to think I used to smoke while running on the treadmill.”) and the distinctive make up, there is an open, friendly woman.

“Don’t say anything it’s my maternal side, I want to be sure that everyone feels at ease,” she explains while she moves the astrakhan cushions on the armchairs, as, she says, they’re not comfortable. Donatella in the flesh is exactly how she is popularly painted — “larger than life,” one of those personalities that goes above and beyond who they are and what they do. She is a symbol, a way to be, unique.

“Honestly, I’m still surprised when I’m recognized in the street; I’m not Lady Gaga after all. I always stop when young people approach me wanting to speak about Versace, they make me happy.”

versaceversace

In fact, before she was thrust into it, life in the limelight had never crossed her mind. “I was and am insecure. Since when I took Gianni’s place, after his death, I’ve learnt to dominate fear: it’s always there, but I hide it. Also because it was my choice so now I have to face up to it!”

To say that, her initial period as Creative Director was difficult would be a euphemism, but she speaks about it openly, with moving simplicity. “I made lots of mistakes, at the beginning: the eyes of the world were on me, it was taken for granted that the brand was finished, but I held on. Hoping to do the right thing I listened to everyone, but in doing so got lost. When I understood that I could and should trust myself everything changed.”

donatellaversace

Patient and relaxed as she is, just one thing annoys her: When she is asked where she gets her inspiration from. “It’s always the first question. But what do they think? I look around myself, my creative process is down to earth! Art? Well, I think it is anachronistic to use it as reference, also because the most beautiful pieces today are installations: how could you transform them into clothes? I’m interested in reality; I’d rather have Picassos at home.”

Speaking about “her” ladies, with endorsements from Queen Elizabeth II and Madeleine Albright and friends like Lady Gaga, face of this year’s spring-summer collection, she ends up on the topic of beauty and its significance. “My clothes have to make women beautiful. Not strange or ‘modern,’ beautiful. I always ask the models how they feel in that dress, those clothes, because on the catwalk it’s important to feel the confidence that comes from liking oneself.”

Besides, it was Donatella who first put super-top models on the catwalk, transforming them into creatures of Versace. “Gianni wouldn’t entertain it initially, but I, as usual, wore him down. It ended up with his mistaking Linda Evangelista for a dresser, getting it into his head that Kristen McMenamy was crazy, and, when I introduced him to Kate Moss, asking me if I’d chosen her because she was as short as me. But he had understood what I’d meant: on the catwalk you need charisma. Otherwise, can you imagine the boredom?”

versace3

If her life hadn’t turned out this way maybe she would have worked in the music industry, but there was never a real alternative. “My mom was a seamstress, my brother wanted to be a fashion designer, I was in the middle. Gianni dressed me, sending me out and about in Reggio Calabria in a yellow mini skirt, over-the-knee boots and with highlights in my hair: I was 12 years old! But I grew up like this, this is me.”

It would be wrong to think that her work starts and ends with clothes: the decision to sell 20 percent to the Blackstone private equity fund was hers, following an agreement with her daughter Allegra to join together the value of the Versace shares they hold, making an overall total of 70 percent, and thus guaranteeing themselves the position of major shareholders. And Donatella showed recognition of the importance of management when she credited Gian Giacomo Ferraris, CEO since 2009, with having allowed her creative freedom.

“My responsibility is to make people buy Versace because they fall in love with an item, irrespective of its cost. He understands this and trusts me.”

versace10

She has plenty to say about the new generation of designers, a subject dear to her heart: she designs for Versus, collaborating with a different one each time.

“I helped Gianni to go beyond his limits, and this is the role they have with me: they help me to compare myself with the present. I appreciate that many pay homage to Versace, but it is important to me that they do it in their own way, carbon copies are of no interest to me.” And Fausto Puglisi, identified as the heir –- for some a little too faithful to the original -– to Gianni? Donatella stops, sighs, carries on talking.

“He’s good and I wish him all the best, but he should create himself a look which is less connected to ours. I like Anthony Vaccarello, he has a ‘Versacian’ sensuality of his own: I’m going to do the next Versus collection with him.”

versace2

Going back to her “normal” life: when abroad she always tries to see and do as much as possible. “Nothing illegal, I’ve already done my bit that way,” she says bursting out laughing, but then she becomes animated. “Italy has little to offer at the moment and it’s a shame, as many young people would move mountains to stay.” If Renzi is given a free hand to do what he wants, Donatella hopes, maybe things will change, but it’s hard to get over the indifference that the political class has towards fashion.

“And we are the only ones exporting and investing, while others are snatching what they can. I know it’s an Italian habit to always blame everyone else, but if we are at this point it’s all down to Berlusconi: he destroyed culture, convincing young people that appearing on Big Brother is the best aspiration to have. When I visit Daniel in London and I see how young people are there I become furious. We’ve lost 20 years following the wrong example, looking for success without hard work. What a waste!”

Versus Versace RTW Fall 2015

For his first full collection as creative director, Anthony Vaccarello evoked the spirit of Versus in its Nineties heyday, and looked to images of those collections captured by snappers including Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, and Bruce Weber. Since 2013, this collection has been a seasonless one, and Vaccarello’s 17 looks, which have an autumnal feel, will go on sale online and in-store later this week.

The collection is packed with tailored topcoats, flannel shirts, and lightweight wool tartans in earth tones such as olive, berry red and brown. Vaccarello used those tartans for leg-flashing pleated kilts or the pleated edging on dresses with sculpted, asymmetrical hemlines. He also paired a dark, floor-grazing kilt with a thick mohair knit inspired by a Weber image of Kristen McMenamy from two decades ago.

Rihanna Rocks 2015 iHeartRadio Music Awards In Versace Green Fur Coat & Thigh-High Boots

When Rihanna posted a photo of Lil’ Kim on her Instagram account Thursday, we had no idea that she’d recreate the rapper’s style at the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Riri looked like she stepped straight out of the 1997 music video for “Crush on You” while performing her new single “Bitch Better Have My Money.” Dressed in an emerald green Versace fur coat, thigh-high boots, nameplate necklace and oversized sunglasses, she oozed sex appeal and swagger.

The Barbadian singer even styled her jet black hair with blunt bangs that looked like the colorful wigs Lil’ Kim wore in the ’90s. #Nailedit

How to Be a Versace Babe: Beauty Lessons from Backstage in Milan

Photographed by Kevin Tachman

What does modern sex appeal mean? The answer may evolve from season to season, year to year—but chez Donatella Versace, the bombshell equation of swingy hair and smoldering eye makeup always makes good. At her show tonight, models Karlie Kloss, Natasha Poly, and Anna Ewers lounged around the backstage area looking like certified power babes. And while excellent genes have no doubt helped their case, there is something to be learned by mere mortals from the designer’s more-is-more beauty philosophy. Here, four rules—stolen from backstage power duo Guido Palau and Pat McGrath—to consider this month.

1. There is nothing more important than a black kohl pencil. Each season, Versace’s girls walk the runway with a fresh incarnation of the smoky eye—and tonight’s show was no exception. “It’s pencil drawn all around the inside and the outside of the lashes,” said makeup artist Pat McGrath, who took a cue from the bold shapes and slit-to-there lines of the house’s fall collection. “It makes things tougher, sharper, it brings out the color of your eyes.”

2. Do not, we repeat—do not—leave the house with less than three coats of mascara. In fact, you are going to need “massive” amounts of inky black pigment swiped along the lashes, according to McGrath, who curled them before going over each little hair repeatedly with a thick brush formula.

3. You are going to want to consider growing your hair out—and possibly getting bangs. Swingy, below-the-shoulder hair is key to your look—because what better accessory is there for a body-con power suit? If you’re thinking of making a bold change, however, the brow-grazing fringe spotted on models Mica Arganaraz and Vanessa Moody is an appropriately pillowy option.

4. Remember that old saying about looking in the mirror before you go out for the night and taking one thing off? It does not apply to you. Because whether it’s clouds of Redken Diamond Oil High Shine  shine spray on the hair for a sleek urban texture or a high-impact gleam on the eyelids in the form of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, standing out is most definitely your thing.

Versace Power Plays with Matching Accessories: How to Get the Look Now

Once upon a time your mother may have told you to match your bag to your shoes—granted, your mother is not Donatella Versace. The Versace runway today spun the primary color wheel and landed on bright and unexpected chromatic echoes for fall. Think red sunglasses with a red frock. A yellow clutch with a yellow fur jacket. And the list goes on. To get the polished and sleek look now, see six sets of staple pieces to pair for an ensemble that values a perfect match, but isn’t matchy-matchy.
