EXCLUSIVE: Tony The Tiger Victim Of Food Terrorist Plot?

Is someone kidding around with beloved breakfast cereal mascot Tony the Tiger with a series of viral videos showing him helping a sex worker, a suicide bomber and a police officer who savagely beats a female suspect?

Or is a food terrorist trying to commit a cereal killing by making Tony look bad?

Kellogg Co. said it had nothing to do with what it called “offensive” videos posted this week showing its Frosted Flakes mascot behaving badly. Evidence uncovered by The Huffington Post suggests a well-known food activist, Jani Leinonen, may be involved.

The latest video shows a battered woman named Anna seated inside a California cafe.

“Last night I experienced the worst physical abuse of my life, for no reason,” reads a description of the video at “I feel so humiliated, betrayed, my whole body is aching. I am angry but I have not found the courage to fight back. I was so lost, but Tony came and encouraged me to go ahead with my plan to show people.”

Tony the Tiger, in the video, encourages Anna to go through with her “plan” by eating a bowl of sugary Frosted Flakes — “They’re grrrrreat,” he says in his trademark shout.

After eating a bit of the cereal, Anna stands up and shows she has a bomb strapped to her chest, which detonates as the video ends.

Actress Gina Ferranti shared a video still shot from the film on Instagram, The Huffington Post’s investigation shows. Ferranti lists the role on her acting resume, which identifies the director and production company responsible for “Tony.”

Ferranti, through her agent, declined to comment. The “Tony” listing on her resume was removed Friday night, after this article was published.

Ferranti’s resume identified the “Tony” director as Jani Leinonen, an artist from Finland who has been linked to a group of health-food activists called the Food Liberation Army.

The organization was responsible for the Jan. 31, 2010, theft of a life-size Ronald McDonald statue from a McDonald’s fast food restaurant in central Helsinki, according to The kidnappers threatened to decapitate Ronald unless McDonald’s answered questions about the quality of its food and its work ethics. Finnish police identified Leinonen as a suspect and  jailed him for 30 hours, according to a report on the art news website

Leinonen didn’t respond to a request for comment from HuffPost on Friday.

In her resume, Ferranti identified the company that filmed “Tony” as Route 1, a Los Angeles-based firm that provides production services.

Route 1’s website says the company has worked with a number of well-known corporations, including Kellogg. Route 1’s show reel includes two commercials for Kellogg’s Special K products. The website was taken down after this article was published.

Route 1 recently shared a photo on its Facebook page that shows its ”amazing crew” with Jani Leinonen at the Malibu Pier.

“Thank you Tero, Jani, Anti, and Jani #2 for trusting us with your amazing project,” the post reads.

Route 1 says on Twitter it is a “sister company” of First Breath Films, which boasted of its “controversial” new films in a May 22 Facebook post:

Route 1 responded to a HuffPost query on Facebook. An unnamed person wrote to say “my boss said to tell you” that Route 1 is a “service company” hired by artists and production companies and has “no say or input into the content in any way.”

Jason Lehel of First Breath Films on Friday night said his company “has nothing to do with the Tony shoot.”

A Kellogg spokesperson, who replied to questions without providing a name, said Friday that the company has no relationship with Leinonen, but didn’t say whether it had worked with Route 1.

“As a company grounded in the values of integrity and respect, we recognize people’s right to creative expression,” the Kellogg spokesperson said in an email. “We also believe these videos are offensive and make light of serious issues that deserve real dialogue. Tony is a beloved icon and we will protect the integrity of our brands and our characters.”

This article has been updated to include comments from Route 1 and First Breath Films and to note that the listing for the “Tony” video on Ferranti’s online resume and the Route 1 website both were taken down Friday night.

Chris Brown Sued By Victim Of San Jose Club Shooting [VIDEO]

Remember Chris Brown’s San Jose show back in January which ended with five people getting shot for coming up?

Well, one of the victims wants restitution, citing the R&B star’s “lack of security” as the reason he took a bullet simply for being a fan.

Reports NBCBayArea:

Lawyers for Paul Briley, 22, claim the college student suffered “a permanent injury” to his foot when he was shot at “Chris Brown’s Capricorn Bash” at the Fiesta Nightclub on Monterey Highway early on the morning of Jan. 11.

All five people who were wounded suffered non-life-threatening injuries, San Jose Police spokesperson Officer Albert Morales told NBC Bay Area back in January.

The lawsuit includes references to prior violence incidents at Chris Brown concerts and his 2009 felony conviction for a notorious assault on his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

“This shooting should never have happened. Brown’s managers and the concert promoters know that violence follows in Brown’s wake,” attorney Richard Alexander said in a statement.

The lawsuit claims the club had been over-sold beyond capacity. It also states, given “shooting incidents … at similar concerts hosted by Brown under similar circumstances,” the defendants should have implemented stringent security procedures, such as metal detectors and pat-downs.

The suit cites the defendants’ “negligence and carelessness” as having led to Briley’s injuries.

Briley is suing Brown and the club to recoup lost earnings, his medical expenses, and a variety of other damages including “past, present, and future physical, mental and emotional pain and suffering, including fright, shock, terror, and post-traumatic stress of being shot.”

Not to say to Chris Brown isn’t culpable for the crime but if these “violent incidents” at his concert preceded his reputation, what sense did it make to attend? Also, what does the Rihanna incident have to do with this?

Briley may be the only victim who has filed suit so far but you know the other four are inevitable.

Here’s How A Grammy-Nominated Artist Became A ‘Catfish’ Victim

Here’s how a Grammy-nominated artist became a “Catfish” victim.

Defending My Son Who Wears Skirts While Fighting Victim Blaming and Sexism

My son is 4. When he was 2, he went through a phase of wearing pink pants to day care for about two weeks.

About four weeks before preschool ended for summer this year, he started wearing skirts, dresses and flowery shirts to school most days. I felt a little awkward about it for the first couple of days, but I didn’t have any good reason to stop it, and frankly, I had several good reasons to support it.

For one thing, it made the miserable drudgery of convincing him to get dressed for school bearable as summer vacation approached, seemingly at a snail’s pace. Our only hope of getting him to school on time was to let him wear ANYTHING that fit the school dress code. Every parent has heard the advice, “pick your battles.” Each item of clothing he chooses himself increases the likelihood that I’ll get a bite of vegetables in him at dinner, a reasonable bedtime and the car seat buckled without a scene.

The school responded to his wardrobe choices in exemplary fashion. As he went in, a teacher would ask him, “What are you going to say if someone asks you about your shirt/skirt/dress?” To which he would answer something along the lines of, “It is my concert shirt” or “It makes me happy.” The teacher would then say, “OK, that’s what you say if anyone asks you why you are wearing it!” In he would go, happy as a clam. Out he would come at the end of the day, having raised a few eyebrows and received lots of compliments, still happy as a clam. I was relieved. So I picked up a few items at a thrift store that fit him better (and may eventually be available to my younger child).

During the last week of school, my in-laws very generously offered to watch the kids so I could go out for dinner with friends. Upon my return, I faced a very unusual confrontation. It may not seem confrontational, but trust me, this is as confrontational as my in-laws get.

FIL: “So, what is with the skirts?”

Me: “Well, it is the path of least resistance right now. We would’ve been on time for school this morning if I had known he was willing to wear a skirt. Instead I spent an hour trying to get pants and shorts on him. I don’t know why he didn’t just ask for a skirt….”

MIL: “Do you think he prefers them?”

Me: “Well, you know, I do — especially when it is hot out like this, skirts are a lot more comfortable and cool. I mean, the Scots preferred them, too, right?”

FIL: “I just hope he isn’t getting teased too much at school.”

Me: “No, that isn’t a problem. I asked him the other night at dinner if anyone said anything about his dress. He said everyone loved it.”

FIL: “Mmm. I’m not sure how long that is gonna last.”

I’m no idiot. I know that school children can be merciless. However, even in this exceptionally civil conversation, I see a couple of concerning assumptions.

My son isn’t hurting anyone. For whatever reason, he is choosing to wear frills and frocks on occasion. Yet the assumption is that he will be teased for dressing “like a girl,” and that action should be taken to prevent this from happening. There is a simple phrase for this attitude: victim blaming. The implication is that my son, by wearing girls’ clothing, is “asking” to be teased; that he would be the perpetrator of his own [non-existent] torment; that he should conform to societal norms to avoid even the risk of bullying instead of society confronting bullying, in the event that it occurs. If it does occur, why not confront and educate the bully, rather than admonish the victim?

There is also a gender bias here. While girls are often judged for wearing just about anything — be it masculine, feminine, short or long — I think it is fair to say that societal norms favor girls wearing pants more than boys wearing skirts. Girls are permitted (if not encouraged) to emulate boys, while boys are shunned for emulating girls. This continues into adulthood, with serious ramifications for women, men and families. Women are encouraged to “lean in” to their work while child-rearing, but men receive little or no paternity leave and are learning to pass as workaholics so they can spend more time with family. The examples are endless, but suffice it to say that just as the opposite of science isn’t girl, the opposite of boy isn’t teacher, nurse, dancer or homemaker.

My son wore a a flowered shirt, frilly skirt and leg warmers on the last day of school. I am very proud of who he is and the many wonderful girls and women he may wish to emulate. I am proud of his school, which has accepted and embraced him completely thus far. And I am proud of myself for not caving to my in-laws.

Emile Hirsch Alleged Assault Victim Reveals New Details

PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — A studio executive who authorities say was assaulted by actor Emile Hirsch during the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year described the incident as being “insanely painful and absolutely terrifying,” according to public records obtained by The Associated Press.

Daniele Bernfeld, an executive for the Paramount Pictures subsidiary Insurge Pictures, told police that Hirsch put her in a chokehold from behind, dragged her across a table and body slammed her to the floor, investigative documents obtained Thursday through a public records request showed.

Hirsch said he didn’t remember exactly what happened, saying only that she came at him and he was defending himself.

Bernfeld was initially apprehensive about pursuing charges the night of the Jan. 25 incident Tao Nightclub in Park City due to the “sensitive nature” of her work and Hirsch’s high profile, reports show. She said the next day that she decided to pursue charges because word of the incident, and her name, had already leaked out to the public and media.

“I am fundamentally not OK with what happened,” Bernfeld said the night of the incident, red marks visible on her neck. “It was insanely painful and absolutely terrifying.”

Hirsch was questioned and handcuffed the night of the incident, but released and not formally charged until nearly three weeks later. He was charged with aggravated assault and intoxication. The felony assault is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $ 5,000 fine.

That night, slurring his words and struggling to balance, Hirsch said he had three or four drinks. He acknowledged “mouthing off” a bit with Bernfeld, but said he couldn’t remember exactly what happened.

“She started kind of causing a ruckus and I sort of started getting intervening and this happened,” said Hirsch. “I don’t think it was much more than that to be honest…. I think she had a go at me and I probably defended myself.”

The 30-year-old from Encino, California has made two court appearances in Park City, but has not entered a plea or made any comments outside court. Hirsch is due back in court in Park City on Aug. 17 at a hearing in which prosecutors will lay out the evidence or, possibly, announce a plea deal.

Hirsch’s attorney, Neil Kaplan, was not immediately available for comment. He has previously said Hirsch entered rehab within days of the incident.

Paramount spokeswoman Katie Martin Kelley was not immediately available for comment either. She has declined to comment previously about the incident.

Hirsch was at Sundance for the premiere of the drama “Ten Thousand Saints.” He is best-known for his starring role in “Into the Wild” and has also appeared in Universal’s Navy SEAL drama “Lone Survivor,” Peter Berg’s account of a disastrous 2005 military operation in Afghanistan.

In the lead up to the attack at the club, Bernfeld said Hirsch was super aggressive and in her face. He told her she was a rich kid who “has never done anything” and was just at Sundance to party. She said Hirsch told her, “Your parents are rich and you don’t know what it’s like.”

Bernfeld said she pushed him away, and told him she was a studio executive in town for work and that her mother was a public school principal. Several minutes passed before he came back and blindsided her, she said.

“He basically grabbed me at the curve of the elbow, choked me up, threw me across the table, and I felt the front of my throat hit the back of my throat,” Bernfeld said in an interview recorded by a police officer’s body camera.

A waitress told police Hirsch was really drunk and was grabbing Bernfeld’s hair and touching her prior to the attack. A friend of Bernfeld who witnessed it told police he and another person pulled Hirsch off of Bernfeld while he was choking her.

“I have seen quite a few fights in my life, but this was pretty violent,” said the witness, whose name is redacted from the report but is identified as a film director.

Bernfeld said she hadn’t met Hirsch prior to that night. Hirsch couldn’t remember her name after the incident but said he thinks they might have known each other.

Before being released the night of the incident, Hirsch said he was surprised by what had happened and told police he tries to stay out of trouble. He said he has a young son and a woman he lives with that he cares about.

“I’ve always respected the law and been a law-abiding citizen,” Hirsch said. “To have it bite me is surprising but at the same time, you can never be surprised when dealing with the law.”

After the officer told Hirsch he had made some poor decisions, Hirsch apologized but asked again what he had done. He seemed unaware of the severity of the situation, telling the officer, “I feel like I could patch it up with her.”

Former Student Killed Lover After Victim Said She Was ‘Toying’ With Her

A former Virginia Tech student admitted this week to killing another student in 2014 after the victim told her she was just “experimenting” and “toying” with her.

Jessica Michelle Ewing was sentenced to 45 years in prison on Monday after she entered an Alford plea in the death of 21-year-old fellow student Samanata Shrestha, the Roanoke Times reported. The Alford plea allows Ewing to avoid pleading guilty while acknowledging prosecutors have enough evidence to convict her.

“We were pleased with the judge’s ruling,” Montgomery County Commonwealth attorney Mary Pettitt told The Huffington Post. Pettitt recommended a life sentence to Judge Robert Turk.

“Anytime you kill somebody, I think we ought to look at life in prison,” Pettitt said.

“It wasn’t my intent to kill,” said Jessica Michelle Ewing as she cried on the witness stand in Christiansburg, Virginia, Monday, June 1, 2015. (AP)

Ewing’s attorney, Tyson Daniel, said there were several mitigating factors that merited a lighter sentence.

Before she was sentenced, Ewing offered her account of what happened at Shrestha’s home in Christiansburg, Virginia, the night of Feb. 7, 2014.

Ewing said Shrestha invited her over for what Ewing described as a “date night.” But when Ewing arrived in a dress, she said she was “disappointed” to find Shrestha wearing sweatpants and a casual shirt.

Shrestha eventually changed into a dress and the pair drank wine, fought with whipped cream and “engaged in sexual activity,” according to the Roanoke Times.

When Shrestha told Ewing she was just “experimenting” and “toying” with her, Ewing attacked her date. Ewing strangled Shrestha, who also suffered blunt force trauma to her head and her upper and lower extremities, according to the Associated Press.

Many news organizations that reported on the case described the killing as driven by the fact that Shreshta wore sweatpants to the date. But Pettitt told HuffPost she doesn’t think Shrestha’s decision to wear sweatpants lead to her death. However, she said it signaled “that Ewing showed up with expectations about how this night was going to go, and those expectations were not shared by Samanata Shrestha.”

Pettitt also said she didn’t see any mitigating factors in the case.

Daniel disagreed. His client is a young woman with no criminal past or history of violence, he said. Daniel also noted that Ewing was the victim of sexual abuse as a juvenile, which she “really bore inside of her.”

He also said Ewing’s decision to explain the truth of what happened should have been considered “a point of mitigation.”

“She said things that were entirely against her interests but were consistent with the evidence that the commonwealth had,” Daniel said.

Why Woman With Same Name As 12-Year-Old Suicide Victim Wants Case Reopened

Twelve-year-old Rebecca Ann Sedwick (Becca) was found dead in September, 2013, and authorities ruled her death a suicide after what her family says was more than a year and a half of cyberbullying. Now, instead of being able to grieve her daughter’s loss, Becca’s mom, Tricia, says a whole new nightmare has begun.

Tricia says she is being harassed online by a stranger who happens to share the same name as her deceased daughter. Tricia says this stranger has falsely accused Tricia’s 20-year-old daughter of killing Becca and Tricia of then covering it up.

“She feels an affinity with my daughter because they share the same name, Rebecca Ann, and she’s also claimed to have a vision in her head of what happened that day,” explains Tricia, claiming that Rebecca Ann has waged an online campaign against her family, including, Tricia says, accusations of murder from numerous strangers who have joined Rebecca Ann’s online groups.

“When I messaged Rebecca, she basically told me that she was never going to stop,” says Tricia, who fears for her family’s safety. “She’s bullying, she’s stalking, she’s harassing.”

Rebecca Ann explains that she took an interest in the case when she heard a news report about a little girl who committed suicide. “I’m Rebecca Ann, so it did strike a nerve,” she says, explaining that she had a “vision” of what happened on the day of Becca’s death.

“Anybody that tells me that Rebecca killed herself because of bullying is misinformed, and I will fight to the death to prove that she did not do that,” says Rebecca Ann, who spends four or five hours a day working to have the case re-opened. “A lot of my proof is my own intuition. I want justice for Rebecca.”
