It’s summertime again—unless you live in Australia—and beach-chic timepieces and watches are back in style.

13 of the Most Stylish Watches You Can Own Under $ 250

While you may not always have the means to escape the office for the beach, there’s no harm in at least giving the impression you’d be ready to swap out your business suit for a swimsuit if need be.

Here are 10 killer casual watches that are as summer-ready as you are.

Aquatico Automatic ST

A 40-hour power reserve paired with a water resistance of up to 200 meters makes the Acuatico Automatic the perfect amalgamation of work and not-work. [$ 250; aultasurf.com]

12 Stylish Swim Trunks You’ll Want to Wear This Summer

The beach is nothing if not a great equalizer. Once you take off your shirt and you’re left with only your swim trunks, everyone knows what’s going on under the hood. And finding the right pair of shorts has never been easier, thanks to more brands designing versatile and stylish trunks that won’t break the bank.

When you’re shopping for new swim trunks, consider a few simple visual tricks: Vertical stripes create the illusion of a longer, leaner frame while horizontal ones (as well as bold patterns) can appear to add bulk. Stick with dark, slimming solids if you have thicker, muscular legs. If your legs are on the smaller side, steer clear of short inseams. These work best for average-height and smaller guys who need to show more skin to look longer. More focused on style? “Navy looks great on everyone and goes with just about everything, and red has been the standard for lifeguards on both coasts since the 1960s,” says Bill Carney, director of apparel at iconic board short brand, Birdwell. “Camo is a style staple that can be worn every summer.”

Whether you want to spend $ 35 or have a little room in your budget, here are a dozen stylish, affordable swim trunks you’ll want to rock in the sun this summer.

Outerknown Apex Trunk By Kelly Slater

We’re not saying your swimwear can make you handle waves like a pro surfer, but these trunks certainly stand up to any swells the ocean throws your way. The durable and lightweight material made from recycled plastic bottles not only offers the comfort of 4-way stretch, but it’s also water resistant, so drying time is minimal once you make it back to shore.

[$ 145; outerknown.com]

Patagonia Wavefarer Standup Shorts

Your bag just a got a lot lighter. No need to bring extra shorts when you can wear these quick-drying swim shorts all day. Made from recycled nylon, they’re the ideal piece to transition from beach to barbecue, and the 50+ UPF protection means you don’t have to obsess over sunscreen if you’re too busy having a good time.

[$ 69; patagonia.com]

Birdwell 310 Board Shorts

You can’t go wrong with these OG surf shorts from the Santa Ana, CA, brand that have been worn by lifeguards and surfers for more than 50 years. The tab closure offers freedom to adjust the fit, nylon offers performance, and the classic camo print actually stands out—in the best sort of way—on the sand.

[$ 79; birdwell.com]

Bonobos Banzai Trunk

Certain patterns can look a little too precious for the pool. Anchors and flamingos, we’re talking to you. But small geometric shapes like these give off a retro vibe and have a cool factor that doesn’t fade.

[$ 88; bonobos.com]

Faherty Brand All Day Short

Consider this pair of shorts the closest a piece of apparel can get to a deep breath of sea air. We appreciate the Zen feels of this laid-back brand known for sun-faded colors like this. Rendered in a soft, stretchy technical fabric—and in a length that hits a few inches above the knee—just add a cotton button front shirt and wear this tailored trunk well after the sun goes down.

[$ 98; fahertybrand.com]

Vouri Equator Boardshort

If you’ve got an active day ahead of you, these board shorts can take you from your a.m. workout session to a late afternoon swim. The stretchy, anti-odor, and fast-drying fabric keeps you feeling comfortable and prepared for whatever adventures come your way—even if that is just early morning yoga.

[$ 69; vuoriclothing.com]

Tommy Hilfiger Solid Mid-Length Swim Trunk

Sometimes it’s good to keep it simple. These classic drawstring navy trunks are straightforward, so they’ll go with every color in your closet—from patterns and prints to brighter summer colors—after you dry off. The slightly shorter inseam is just right for average height-and-under guys.

[$ 60; usa.tommy.com]

Orlebar Brown Bulldog Sport

Along with sunscreen, consider these sophisticated shorts your tropical vacation must. The small pattern, which works for any body type, will stand out when you’re spiking a volleyball on the beach or sipping a frozen drink at the bar. Add a solid black polo when you want to explore after dark.

[$ 195; orlebarbrown.com]

Nautica Performance Quick-Dry Swim Shorts

You can’t go wrong with these simple and classic cinched waistband shorts. The bright color is the perfect match for that post-vacation tan you’ve been working on, too.

[$ 40; nautica.com]

Saturdays NYC x Mr. Porter Colin Boardshort

We like these shorts because the subtle pattern is tonal, so from far away you might not even know there is one until you get closer. The tailored, streamlined fit with only a single back pocket is flattering on everybody.

LL Bean Classic Supplex Sports Short

Nothing beats a classic performance trunk like this one. Made with breathable performance fabric in UPF 50+, it has all of the attributes you’d want: reliable, versatile, protective, and comfortable in almost any situation.

[$ 35; llbean.com]

Ralph Lauren Monaco Striped Trunk

Nautical looks are a perennial go-to for guys looking to lighten up their summer style. The horizontal stripes that create the illusion of width are good news for narrow or slimmer frames. The bottom line: They’ll never go out of style.

5 Lightweight Sneakers for When You Can’t Wear Sandals This Summer

Ditch the overengineered running shoes. These light, comfortable sneakers are perfect for lazy summer activities—and can be crushed between beach reads in your weekend travel bag.

8 Colorful Pairs of Spring Chinos, and How to Wear Them

1. Tretorn x Andre 3000 Benjamin Overdyed Nylite

These retro canvas sneaks are reborn, with help from the rapper of “So Fresh, So Clean” fame. Seems appropriate: The Nylites are both, thanks to an uncluttered canvas upper with a single crisp painted logo.

[$ 110; eastdane.com]

2. Chuck Taylor All Star Perforated Low Top

A classic, updated for hot summer days. Diamond-shaped cutouts bedeck the cowhide-suede uppers of these low-top Chucks. They don’t just look cool—they keep your feet cooler, too.

[$ 120; converse.com]

3. Phil Lace

The suede-and-canvas Phil features a casual easy look, but it’s sneakily capable should you want to wander off the sidewalk. The low-profile but high- traction outsole and a sweat-wicking upper lend an assist in long after-work rambles.

[$ 100; forsake.com]

4. Deerupt

They look dropped from space, but the Deerupts have roots on Earth: The grid motif comes from Adidas’ 1980s running shoes. Here the mesh gives its stretchy upper a socklike fit. A bonus: That upper crushes down to minimize luggage space.

[$ 100; adidas.com]

5. Nohea Moku

Water-ready shoes tend to be homely; not so with these, which can go from the office to an impromptu after-work paddle. The quick-drying fabric upper keeps a low profile, while drainage ports and siping in the outsole provide grip on wet surfaces.

How to Wear the Summer’s Hottest Trend: Translucent Frame Sunglasses

Transparent frames have never looked better, thanks to brands turning out see-through sunglasses styles in classic shapes.

Top 10 High-Performance Sports Sunglasses

Here are five of our favorite pairs of summer 2018.

The Best Sunglasses to Highlight Your Face Shape and Personal Style

1. Elston by State

The brown hue of both the frame and lenses splits the difference between crystal clear glasses and traditional tortoiseshell, so they’re a subtle but standout take on the transparent look.

2. Walker by Saturdays NYC

Handcrafted in Japan from Italian acetate, this frame features thicker temples and a straight brow, which gives it an angular look perfect for guys with rounder faces.

[$ 295; saturdaysnyc.com]

3. Parkhurst by Raen

This unisex design with a flat profile has seven strong barrel hinges in each temple, meaning it can withstand the beating of a day at the beach. Its acetate frame changes from tortoiseshell to clear and sleek.

[$ 135; raen.com]

4. Lemtosh by Moscot

Jeff Goldblum and Truman Capote both wore the Lemtosh in opaque styles, but the clear version with bottle-green lenses works just as well for us less famous dudes. The frame comes in different width sizes and in bold hues like sage and tobacco.

[$ 290; moscot.com]

5. Grayson by Garrett Leight

This slightly oversize frame features stylish blue lenses and a high keyhole bridge. But the anti-reflective coating and ultraviolet protection make this pair a great combination of form and function.

How to Wear Indigo, the Coolest Color You Can Get Right Now

Brands are going back to basics and using genuine indigo dyes for a colorful look that improves with age. As clothes have become less expensive and demand for denim has grown, synthetic blue dyes have almost overtaken the 6,000-year-old practice of using natural indigo. But designers are rediscovering the nuances of this plant-based pigment. It doesn’t just produce the deep, dark shade applied to selvedge jeans and pieces like Raleigh Denim Workshop’s striped chore coat: When aged properly, the living colorant can produce the palest shades of sky blue, seen here on Faherty’s striped T-shirt and Levi’s Made & Crafted’s soft, light Henley.

Sharon Wauchob to Launch Men’s Wear, Stage Coed Shows From June

ONE FOR THE BOYS: The Irish designer Sharon Wauchob plans to launch men’s wear — and join the coed gang — starting with London Fashion Week Men’s in June, and in concert with the Savile Row tailor Norton & Sons.
“The idea of change started with my move from Paris to London, which opened up the possibility and benefit of new avenues and new methods of showing. There was also the timing issue with deliveries and the fact that since moving to London I’ve been fascinated with bespoke men’s tailoring,” Wauchob said.
She plans to host a women’s presentation to show her fall 2018 range during London Fashion Week on Feb. 18 and will show a new collections of women’s wear and menswear in June.
As for her collaboration with Norton & Sons, she said,“I like exploring the masculinity in men’s wear. As a designer it genuinely interests me. Norton & Sons offers a modern look and a willingness to have that dialogue with me. I like the classic look with a moment of surprise.”
The designer, who moved her show to London from Paris three seasons ago, said that designing for men requires a different approach. She said there are technical differences to

London College of Fashion Spotlights MA Men’s Wear Collections

FRESH TALENT: London College of Fashion’s graduating MA men’s wear students showcased their collections on Friday with a runway show ahead of London Fashion Week Men’s.
Ten students from the fashion design technology men’s wear course presented their ranges at St John’s Smith Square in Westminster, in the show styled by Adele Cany. The strongest lineups came from Hanni Yang, Ying Yi Lu, Hengmin Lu, Sohyeon Park and Xu Bo.

Ying Yi Lu looked to young boys of the Victorian era and focused on tailoring, as in a cropped blue pinstripe suit. Lu topped off the looks with sailor style hats done in collaboration with Atelier Millinery.

The Best Scents for Men to Wear this Winter

There’s a reason you still wear the same cologne you splashed on for your college semi-formal. Sure, there’s the possibility that the scent your older brother told you to get at 19 is perfect and the only one you’ll ever wear. But there’s also the possibility that it’s just easier than dealing with the alternative. The world of fragrance is vast and confusing and, okay, mildly intimidating when you can’t pronounce half the ingredients and don’t exactly know what a fragrance that uses cardamom to “echo into the wilderness of your masculinity” actually smells like.

Bruce Oldfield, British Couturier, Unveils Custom-Made Women’s Wear Capsule Collection

A COUTURIER’S CAPSULE: British couturier Bruce Oldfield is launching a capsule collection of custom-made women’s wear and accessories that is “more commercial” but aimed to please his high net worth clients.
Oldfield, who has designed for the likes for Princess Diana, said due to the rising prices over the last few years — and the decreased value of the pound — he has lost some clientele not because they can’t afford to, but opted to book a holiday instead. “It’s redressing the balance slightly,” said Oldfield. “It’s very easy to do custom-made. I don’t have to make a collection or build stock — which suits me. I’m a small self-owned brand. It’s really just offering something to that customer that I know is there — at a more affordable price.”
The custom-made collection is a capsule that consists of gowns, day dresses, skirts, blouses, jackets alongside accessories including bags, stoles and scarves. While Oldfield omitted placing embellishments on apparel, he developed a new embroidery on accessories, which he employed on a stole as seen in a silk velvet stole appliquéd onto Chantilly lace.
“When I first started, my first job was in New York at Henri Bendel,” said Oldfield. “I love that American sensibility.

What the Most Stylish Women Wear to Work: Jewelry Designer Jennifer Fisher

jennifer fisher 9 to 5

While plenty of celebrities (Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kim Kardashian West, to name a few) and other women in the know have clamored to dot their lobes, wrap their wrists, and clasp their necks with the covetable and edgy jewelry of Jennifer Fisher since the line’s inception in 2005, it’s also the designer’s enviable personal style that has piqued plenty of attention. As sculptural and experimental as her own statement-piece jewelry, the 2012 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist and working mom documents all on her lively Instagram feed, including her rotating inventory of outfits as she navigates the whirlwind schedule of manning her New York City–based showroom and stores. With a shock of color, a play on proportion and pattern, plenty of wit, and a stack of her own rings, Fisher shows her slew of followers that, just as with her own accessories, she’s all about the details.

But as the stylist turned jewelry designer recently explained, it’s all about a great base of denim and heels that gets her through a hard day of work and to any of the events she attends afterward. Here, Fisher reveals her favorite blues, why Fashion Week allows her to really experiment with her style, and how her jewelry dictates her workday ensembles.

The Charm of the Jewelry Business
Becoming a jewelry designer was not planned. After being a stylist for more than 10 years I was used to making custom pieces for clients when I could not find what they wanted, or I wanted, in the market. After the birth of my son Shane I scoured every high-end designer store to find the perfect piece of jewelry to wear to represent my son, and when I couldn’t find what I was looking for I went out and made my own. At the time, I was working on set and the response was so incredible that I started making similar pieces for friends and family. There was so much demand for my charm necklace that I started my own website selling the charms, necklaces, and bracelets directly from my bedroom, filling orders whenever I was not on set. It turned out there were thousands of women and men looking for the same bespoke pieces of fine jewelry and my business was born.

Daily Routine
My typical workday begins after I drop my children off at school and I’m usually in the office by 9:00 a.m., unless there is an out-of-office meeting. My day is a mix of different responsibilities. I am always working with my in-house PR team on what items are being pulled for certain celebrities and magazines. I always weigh in on the pulls. Because of my earlier career, I am familiar with what stylists need on set, so I like to always add a few extra pieces in the mix. Then there is a production meeting so I can be updated on the status of my designs for outside projects, collaborations, and, of course, planning for the next season.

I always like to pop into the store space during client appointments to see what people are buying and what they would like to see added to the line—it’s the best way to gauge the marketplace and what direction we should be leaning in for the next season. I always try to design for at least two hours a day. We have many more pieces per season because of the brass and the fine line, so it’s necessary to keep up on both collections. These days I am attending dinners or events most nights, but I always run home after work to see my kids before I go out. I’m an avid cook, so I make most dinners for them and it gives us some time to spend together before I have to dash.

It’s All About That Bling-Bling
My workwear definitely changed with careers, but the shift was seamless. I have always been informal in dressing down designer pieces for day to night, so my wardrobe hasn’t changed much except I was a bit more L.A. when I started—now it’s moved into a more minimal New York feel. I always base my look off of the jewelry I want to wear for the day or night and go from there. I have noticed that over the last few seasons I have started to pull away from piling on so much jewelry, though. Lately I’m favoring one statement cuff and one finger stacked with multiple rings over a ton of jewelry everywhere.

I always rotate the fine jewelry I wear on a daily basis; for instance, I am constantly readjusting my signature charms onto different length chains. However, my go-to earrings are our diamond pin front and back earrings; they’re my favorite update to the daily diamond stud. I am also never without a stack of my customized burnished cuffs. I love to mix the fine jewelry with the brass jewelry. I’m loving the idea of the single statement earring right now, specifically my silver-plated brass version, as well as my Chaos collection from Spring 2016. One earring worn with an earcuff on the opposite ear and one finger with multiple stacked rings stacked is my favorite evening look right now.

A Denim Girl at Heart (and Work)
I love denim, so most days it’s denim for me, which ranges from either my favorite hand-painted pair from Trico Field to my long-cuffed wide-leg Chloé jeans to my high-waisted Gucci with gold military buttons, or my favorite Frame Denim Le Garcon high-waisted flares. I elevate them by wearing a Gucci or Chloé silk blouse. Adding one of those and a heel instantly changes the look and lets me go from day to night. I bought an amazing J.W.Anderson black-and-white velvet top, as well as a silver metallic top—these are my current two favorites for going out. With a pop of color from my new Loewe orange red wristlet, I’m good to go!

I’ve been adding knits from Tome and a red marketed knit from Balenciaga, which is my current fall favorite. I like knits that are chunky yet structured, which can sometimes be hard to find. I love this new Mira Mikati coat that the designer gifted me in Paris—it’s the perfect gray-green coat that has Hello and OMG in felt in multiple colors; it matches everything. I also purchased a few new Sacai jackets. I am a collector of Sacai—basically, anything Sacai goes in my closet. My jackets range from puffy bombers to leather and cotton army green swing coats. Also, The Row for simple black dresses, and Dries Van Noten and Marni for prints.

The Shoes, the Bags
I am never a flats girl—it’s just not my thing. If I have early meetings I will leave my house in heels and throw a pair of sneakers in my bag. For heels it’s all about Loewe, Céline, Chloé, and Vetements for fall. I just got the Loewe Column Ring ankle boots with the gray, white, and blue–striped toe and they are so comfortable and work day to night. I also keep a pair of Céline slides under my desk that are my work “slippers.” No matter what I’m wearing I always throw those on and off during the workday. I hate being formal at my desk, so changing is always a must. Sometimes I change in and out of an outfit a couple of times a day so I don’t have to sit in it! I have my own closet in the office that I hang everything in.

I always have a cross-body bag on me: It makes everything easier for days when I am on the move from morning until night. I have multiple colors of the Céline Cabas tote that I throw my laptop in, along with anything I need for the day. Right now, I’m loving the bright blue version. My new favorite is a Louis Vuitton that I picked up during Paris Fashion Week with silver hardware. I also keep multiple Edie Parker clutches at work—they double as bookshelf art for my office.

Beauty Lewks
In case I need to go to an impromptu dinner or event, I keep an extra cocktail dress and multiple pairs of shoes at the office! I also keep an extra set of all my makeup, plus a few good red lip options and beauty cleansing products at my office. Otherwise, my work beauty look is always clean and minimal. I use Chantecaille tinted moisturizer daily and Tatcha eye gel masks, regardless if I’ve been out the previous night. I hate the feeling of foundation or makeup on my skin while working, so my morning routine is very basic. Moisturizer, brows, done! I have eyelash extensions, which make you look more bright and awake instantly.

The Weekend Chill
I’m with my children all weekend shuffling them to their soccer and basketball games, so I need to be mobile. I tend to stick to sneakers during the day, wearing my Alexander McQueen version of the Stan Smiths, or the Adidas Originals I customized with gold backs. I love to use the weekends to experiment with fun sunglasses as they are one of my favorite accessories. Currently I have three pairs in rotation: my Illesteva collaboration Holly frames, Loewe, or the Céline bright orange red frames. Of course.

Fashion Week Is Another Story Altogether
Fashion Week is a time to play with clothing that I might not normally think of mixing. I always have a rack that I keep out in my dressing room with a week’s worth of options. I love to pull out old favorites and use new pieces: It’s almost like the “no fear” week and anything goes. Plus it’s a great excuse to purchase a few new pieces! I also always like to wear a beanie during Fashion Week—my favorites are from Marc Jacobs. I buy all the colors every season and even double up on a few of my favorites—inevitably one goes missing in a taxi or an Uber! I attended Spring 2016 London Fashion Week as an ambassador for Net-a-Porter’s The Net Set. As the only designer who is a member of their Style Council I was thrilled to have the opportunity to experience the collections in this way; I found the shows there incredibly inspiring. Christopher Kane, Emilia Wickstead, and Erdem were the highlights of the trip and opened me up to wanting to try and wear more floral and take more color risks for spring.

The 18 Best Dark Lipsticks to Wear All Fall Long

If you wear one thing this fall, make it dark lipstick. (OK, maybe wear a coat and boots, too.) Inky plum, deep burgundy, and straight-up black lipsticks won’t keep you warm, but they do look really hot. Here, our favorite shades in every finish: matte, glossy, and high shine.

Happy Fall Trends You Can Actually Wear

I’ve held out as long as I could, but the transitional weather is here and the leaves are threatening to change. With that, I’m forced to retire my strappy sandals, beachy nail polishes and beloved summer handbags, and officially start moving towards fall fashion, even if we’re in that in-between phase of being overly hot one day and chilly the next.

Having just recently prepped and presented fall fashion tips for several book signing events, I realize for the average Jill just how many trends are out there to digest: making sense of it all can be overwhelming. (As if getting everything organized and on schedule this time of year wasn’t work enough! Like my family’s dinner tonight for example.)

Akin to my theory of really loving each piece of clothing that you own and making every accessory work to empower you and make you stand out, here’s a roundup of “happy” fall trends that should make you smile for ease of style or spunk of character or simple wear-ability.

CAPES
Cozy capes are stealing the spotlight when it comes to outerwear. Look for fun closures, slitted sleeves and streamlined pockets.

Even kids can get in on the action with seasonal plaid prints that will make them look dapper, like a mini Sherlock Holmes!

BOHO
Richly layered ensembles were the focus of many designers’ collections, including Alberta Ferretti and Erdem. You can capture the bohemian vibe with an embroidered swing dress and layer with a sweater or jacket.

2015-10-02-1443805340-8837629-RedBorderSwingMidiDress.jpg

MIDI BOOTS
Taller than an ankle boot yet below the knee, the midi is the talk of the season among editors for offering a fresh, new boot silhouette.

2015-10-02-1443805842-3770088-BlackBuckleBootie.jpg

FRINGED…EVERYTHING
Here’s a trend that some write off for only the youthful, but while fringe detailing may be frisky, it can also be subtly elegant. Look for the visual movement and texture it brings to clothing.

2015-10-02-1443805476-8830828-IvoryFringeOpenCardigan.jpg

2015-10-02-1443805514-7217892-GraySouthwestFringeBoot.jpg

FLOPPY HATS
Unlike the knitted caps we’ll need during winter to keep our heads warm, opt for a floppy hat now for the perfect, stylish topper.

2015-10-02-1443805610-9976809-BlackStudWoolFloppyHat.jpg

SLEEK MINIMALISM
For a straightforward look for work or play, a neutral, streamlined dress gets the job done and speaks of quiet luxury.

2015-10-02-1443805654-4144324-CharcoalFitFlareDress.jpg

FAUX FUR
If an entire luxurious, faux fur coat is not your speed, look for trims on cuffs and collars.

2015-10-02-1443805752-3471403-CreamFauxFurJacket.jpg

SUEDE BOOTS
The rich, soft look of suede is back, and while doing so consider boots in an unexpected color to spice up your footwear. You’ll note more stacked and wider heels this season too.

2015-10-02-1443805898-4953883-BurgundySaraniOvertheKneeBoot.jpg

BLACK & WHITE
While an evergreen trend, black-and-white patterns like this houndstooth are simply getting bolder and more defined–almost to the point of looking mod.

Matthew Miller Spotlights Women’s Wear

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY: London men’s wear designer Matthew Miller, who’s known for his considered, conceptually inspired collections, is now giving his women’s designs a sales push.
The designer shows a few women’s looks as part of the men’s collections he presents during London Collections: Men, but for spring, Miller has for the first time produced separate campaign images for his women’s collection, which he will sell at the British Fashion Council’s London showrooms in Paris at the Le Loft venue. The showrooms will run from Sept. 30 through Oct. 7.
Miller said the move came as stores were “chasing us for sales appointments,” for the women’s collection, and the designer noted that women are already buying into the collection.
The men’s and women’s designs have the same starting point, Miller said, with a focus on “innovative fabrication, masculine cuts and…form and texture.” His collections, he said, are always inspired by the idea of “the fundamental beauty that is found in chaos and destruction.”
For spring, the women’s designs include dresses, blazers and shirts in double-bonded cotton and alloy blend that resembles crinkled paper; oversize leather biker jackets, and slim-cut pants.
The designer tapped photographer Joe Harper to shoot the campaign, which spotlights studio-shot images of model

Ellen DeGeneres Talks Plans for Men’s Wear and Furniture for ED Collection

Ellen DeGeneres was very much having a when-worlds-collide moment Thursday night at Bergdorf Goodman as fans bought copies of her new book “Home” and fashion types pieced through her ED collection.
During the course of the night, which included a private dinner, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams were among the other Ellen admirers who filed through the 57th Street store. Appropriately, Friday Pink debuted a new theme song on DeGeneres’ talk show — “Today’s the Day.”
“It’s like a brand new year that I’m kicking into because I’ve been a comedian, I’ve been an actress. I’m a talk show host — that’s easy for me. I can do that in my sleep. This is a whole new challenge. It’s exciting and I’m learning a lot.” DeGeneres said. “As far as managing my time, I love clothing, and I love design, and I love houses. And I love fashion. So it’s not really an effort, it’s more fun.”
Standing beside her wife Portia de Rossi, DeGeneres said getting into fashion was even more of an undertaking than expected. “For sure, because it’s also going to be much bigger than I ever imagined. We just did this deal with Camuto [Group]

Look Chic, Go Crazy: Here’s What to Wear to Burning Man

date night burning man

Reports made the rounds last week that a swarm of biting, flying insects had descended on the arid planes of Black Rock Desert, Nevada, where Burning Man begins this weekend—but guess what? Even a plague-style swarm of coriander-scented winged beetles with a taste for human blood couldn’t dampen the spirits of the dedicated Burners setting up camp. And why would it? Burning Man is glorious! Burning Man is hot passion! Burning Man is a place to let go! Burning Man is a Mad Max–style dune of scrap-metal bricolage-built caravans, concertgoers who hold umbrellas when it’s not even raining, and people who wear bizarre costumes—or people who don’t wear anything at all. It’s a sand-strewn, welcoming oasis for self-expression through art, music, and events like “Polesaw jousting” and endless EDM-centered events lit only by the blur of Day-Glo body paint.

Don’t think you’ve got the guts to be a Burner, to break out of your 9-to-5, shake off that back-to-school stress for one last hurrah, and wear your bandana as underwear? Please, anyone does! Maybe there are finance Burners who can’t get their thrills from watching the Dow rise, and instead opt for scaling a wooden statue in a soda can–crafted skirt! Or those tightly wound Preppy Burners who skip the Sunday rowing club for a shwaggy lesson in Laughter Yoga? Burning Man is a hot plexus of oddities, a breeding ground for flesh-revealing openness and boiling hormones. You should embrace it—maybe even hug it.

So what to wear to the badlands of bizarre? Let your skin breathe—and be comfortable in it. No one really cares what you look like at Burning Man: You could literally be wearing one pastie—anywhere—and that would be okay. So dress for you, and try to break out of your comfort zone. Think about that knit bikini with matching knit sandals that you were too scared to wear in the Hamptons: Hell, accessorize it with a mask! Haven’t found an occasion to wear that bodysuit? Go bare on the bottom and slap on some sky-high heels. Save the covering up for the flight back home. Until then, burn on, you crazy diamond.

Prepare to Wear Fall’s Most Stylish Flats Absolutely Everywhere

This fall, make some space in your closet for the most versatile shoe you'll ever own: the pointed-toe flat. The look is polished enough for a cocktail party, works for the office, and makes for…

Chic Sneaks! Kicks You Can Wear to the Office and Beyond

stylish sneakers

Do you ever have one of those perfect days where, as you head off to work, the air around you glorious and crisp, you really feel like you’re just nailing it, professionally? Or at least, you’re on the cusp of nailing it? Yes, you think, I will get my assignments in two days early. I will grab my career by the horns and I will get that raise. And this is, you’re aware, in large part due to your office look. You stop in front of a reflective storefront window to take it all in, but as you shuffle around in your tote to top up that lipstick—horror! You are stabbed by the point of a dirty vertiginous heel, one that has reared its microbe-slathered head from the depths of your bag. That’s right: You’re wearing commuter shoes.

Back to reality: The commuter sneaker is the Working Girl–era’s dirty little secret, the footwear that will always rain on your parade. It’s dirty. It’s cumbersome. It’s why you can’t carry those cute little minibags, even though you love them. And it’s emotional baggage for your feet. But look! There’s another way: Skip the plastic sacks of high heels and downtrodden soles and opt for a fancy sneaker that you’d actually be proud to be seen in. Men have been getting away with the sneaker-in-cubicle look for years—Silicon Valley CEOs like Steve Jobs and Aaron Levie haven’t let comfort hold them back—why should you?

But this isn’t just about comfort: Chic sneaks are a great way to add a punch of contrast to your outfit. Try highlighting a tailored black suit with blazing red high-tops, or adding a subtle touch of color with a woven design. Have a casual Friday where you can take a creative liberty in the boardroom? Slip on a pair of funky patchworked kicks to go with your loose slacks and blazer. Maybe you have a meeting with the boss? Fit your foot into some sleek black leather low-tops. Whatever you choose, you can navigate the workroom stylishly—and sans the extra baggage. So go ahead: Walk to work this week.

How to Wear Shorts—No Matter What Your Body Type!

Shorts are a pretty basic concept: They have the flexibility of pants and mimic the proportions of skirts. Still, many cringe at the thought of the closet staple as much as Tinder pickup lines…

Move Over, Mom Jeans: Jay Z and Lenny Kravitz Show How to Wear Dad Denim

jay z street style

While the mom jean got a bit of a refresh recently from bold A-listers like Angelina Jolie Pitt, Beyoncé, and Victoria Beckham, fashionable fathers are now getting in on the game. Earlier today, two major musicians took to the streets of New York, demonstrating how dads can still reign cool in denim. Jay Z and Lenny Kravitz opted for slightly differing hues of blue—Kravitz’s has a gray tint—but each managed to make his outfit as singular as his distinctive sound.

Mr. Carter kept things simple in a T-shirt and jeans combo that focused on fit and palette. His tailored top curves just below the waistband to create a longer silhouette, while tan Timbs augment the faded quality of his ensemble. Meanwhile, Kravitz, no stranger to making any sidewalk his own personal runway whether in skinny ensembles from Saint Laurent or Tom Ford for Gucci, went for a similar look with a touch more flair. Kravitz’s striped shirt coordinates with his gray-tinged jeans, but it’s the accessories that liven up things. A weathered tan belt pairs perfectly with sandy, suede Chelsea boots for a modernized take on styles favored by David Bowie and Mick Jagger. Dadbods everywhere, take note: The dad jean has officially arrived.

5 Sweaters You Can Wear at the Beach

There’s a sexy way to beat the chill when the sun goes down, and it’s an oversize, thick-knit sweater. Or better yet, an Irish fisherman’s pullover sweater. Throw it on and you’re basically Marilyn Monroe in Malibu. “Choose chunky cotton knits in neutral colors, like white, stone, camel, or gray,” says stylist Kate Young. Here, five options we love.

Clothes Still At Your Ex’s? Here’s What to Wear to Pick Them Up

date night holding

Congratulations! You are a free woman! Remember? You broke up with your significant other and are now doing amazingly. Nonetheless, there is a constant empty, vacuous pang of sadness, regret, and unhappiness—and it’s brooding in your closet. That rare vintage band tee from Pink Floyd’s 1987 tour in Latvia you used to lounge in? Haven’t seen it lately. Those cherry-red pony hair flatforms you copped at a sample sale? Nowhere to be found. What about those throwback orange tab Levi’s that fit so snugly around your behind? Gone, gone, gone. And where are they all? Well, you’ve left them at your ex’s.

Now what?

You have two options: Either leave your possessions there forever, to rot in eternal bachelordom, under piles of dog hair-ridden and beer-scented laundry. Or, you can return to salvage them with the knowledge that you will have to make eye contact and minimal conversation with someone you once had a full-fledged relationship with. If you are leaning toward the latter, there are two more things to consider: 1) Do I really need to pick those items up? And 2) Do I want to retrieve them simply as an excuse to see my ex?

Picked the second option? Take a hard pass. Chances are the items in question aren’t of any significant sentimental or monetary value. Don’t be the person who claims you need to collect your bodega-bought flip-flops, extra underwear, and a dollar store–purchased, one-strap tank top because, in reality, you want to catch a glimpse of your ex and their new life with a glinting intention of rekindling something. If that’s the case, it’s better letting your stuff burn—don’t barter your dignity for a pair of once-worn Havianas and a glimpse of your past.

But, if you do in fact, really want your things back—and if they are truly worth something—then by all means, go for it—but make sure you look fantastic in the process. The cardinal sartorial rule to remember? Think first-date style: Look as you usually do, but elevated—and, above all, not like you are trying too hard. Skip the circulation-halting, suffocating body-con dresses and NSFW-skin flashes and keep it laid-back and chic. Try a cool silk dress that has a punch of deep contrast paired with low-heeled ankle boots for a quick getaway. Feeling on top of the world? There’s a sleeveless, floral-print dress and leather boots for that. Completely carefree? Throw on a cheery sweater and figure-skimming skinny jeans. And the essential accessories? Pair your look with a large suitcase or box and an Uber with a running meter patiently waiting for you as you smoothly collect your belongings. But most importantly? Make it a point to meet your ex outside rather than inside their home—you want this transaction to be quick, easy, and on your turf. After all, it’s your life and you’re calling the shots now.

Fashion East Names Spring 2016 Women’s Wear Lineup

LONDON — Fashion East, the London non-profit organization that showcases emerging designers’ collections, has detailed its women’s wear lineup for spring 2016.
The three labels that will host presentations on Sept. 19 in London are Caitlin Price, Richard Malone and This is The Uniform.
Price is showing for the second time as part of Fashion East, after making her debut with the collective in February. Then, the Central Saint Martins MA graduate showed a collection that melded 19th-century period details with sportswear, as in duchesse satin tracksuits appliqued with rosettes.
Richard Malone and This is The Uniform are both showing as part of Fashion East for the first time. Malone is graduate of Central Saint Martins’ BA fashion program, where he won the LVMH Grand Prix scholarship in 2013, while This is the Uniform is designed by Jenna Young, who graduated in fine art textiles from Goldsmiths University in London.
Lulu Kennedy, Fashion East’s director, commented that “all three designers are strong-minded individuals and their girl/woman knows what she’s about,” she said.
The spring 2016 season marks Fashion East’s 15-year anniversary of showing at London Fashion Week, and 12 years of Topshop supporting the showcase.

FRESH HEAT – Ciscero – “Kids Wear Crowns”

Ciscero is back with a brand-new single as he begins the campaign for his upcoming project. It’s titled “Kids Wear Crowns,” and rides a jazzy, trumpet-based instrumental courtesy of producer Shaad Huron and trumpeteer Diggs Duke. Cis’ intricate lyrics are complemented by Manny Wellz and Asante, who assist with some additional vocals, rounding out the track well and tying everything in nicely.

How Long Can You Wear High Heels Before You’re Hurting Your Body?

As sexy as a killer pair of high heels can be, the pain from wearing them too long can be excruciating — and you could be doing more damage than you realize. “We know that heels can lead to things such as bone spurs and planter fasciitis,” says plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon, as well as circulation issues and back pain.

So how long can you wear them before you’re possibly harming your body? According to a podiatrist consulted by The Doctors, there’s actually a maximum amount of time different types of heels should be worn to avoid potential long-term damage. Kitten heels may not seem as sexy as a stiletto, but First Lady Michelle Obama has made them more fashionable in recent years, and you can wear them for about 4 hours before the pain kicks in. Medium-size dinner heels should not be worn more than three hours, and high stilettos (even if they have a platform) should not be worn longer than one hour when you’re walking around in them.

If you do experience pain after wearing high heels, Dr. Rachael Ross, a family physician, shares her remedy. “If I have to be on my feet in stilettos for a few hours, I actually fill the bathtub up with cold water, dump the ice tray in there, and just soak them. Kind of like athletes who are at war all day being athletes, we’re at war all day being women!”

These Guys Were Challenged To Wear Bras For A Week, And It Went Exactly As You’d Expect

Buzzfeed recently challenged a group of men to wear a bra for seven days. The guys then documented the weeklong challenge.

Suffice to say, it was pretty rough going.

“I don’t think it’s possible to relax with a bra on,” said one guy of the experience.

“The worst thing about wearing a bra for a week was wearing a bra for a week,” quipped another.

Watch the challenge unfold in the video above.

What the Most Stylish Women Wear 9 to 5: Meet Fashion Blogger and Social Media Director Juliana Salazar

Juliana Salazar 9 to 5

Juliana Salazar always loved fashion; she just never saw it as a career. “I always thought of fashion as a pastime,” says Salazar, who studied business at George Washington University instead. “I guess I wasn’t really thinking of my actual future when I should have been, because it got to the point where I hated all my classes and all I was doing was looking at stuff online.” One day, bored in class and particularly smitten with a dress she glimpsed online, Salazar decided to start a blog, Made in Chicistan, to chronicle her passion. When that site started taking off, Salazar realized she might be onto something: Fashion could be more than a hobby. And the rest, as they say, is history—after college, she went on to work for Intermix and eventually landed at luxury store Hirshleifers, where she is social media director. Here, the jill-of-all-trades tells us how she approaches dressing for everything from market appointments to Instagram shoots to Fashion Week after-parties.

Mood Dressing
I’m social media director at Hirshleifers, a specialty luxury store. Within the past year since I started, I think our digital audience has increased by 300 percent. I also help with buying and with creative projects too—ways to up our social presence so we can progress and stay modern. I’m kind of a social brand ambassador—Hirshleifers is a huge business but it’s very tightly run, so going to fashion shows is not something they did before I came on board. It’s funny, people ask me what I do and I never know exactly how to explain it—it doesn’t fit that neatly into a job title.

I dress depending on my mood and what I have going on for the day. Today it’s raining and gross out, so I’m wearing slouchy pants [from Calypso St. Barth] and a slouchy denim button-down [from Current/Elliott] and sneakers [from Saint Laurent]. I feel like I’m in my pajamas. I wear a lot of denim shirts—they’re just easy to throw on. My Canadian tuxedo is like my sweatsuit—like when I don’t want to think about anything but I can’t wear sweatpants to work, that’s what I throw on. I’m all about comfort. I never wear anything where I feel like I can’t breathe, but I don’t like looking like a bum either.

Last week, I was having a terrible week and I thought, I need to do something to change this, so I put on these bright yellow silk wide-leg pants from Rag & Bone—like, hopefully this brings the sunshine in. I wore them with a denim top from Gap and strappy sandals from Dolce Vita. People say dress for the job you want—dress for whatever it is you want—and it’s kind of true. For instance with the yellow pants, I got so many comments on them; even guys on the street were making funny little comments about my bright yellow pants. It’s things like that that can actually help take your mind off of whatever is actually bothering you. Fashion is not a serious thing at all; it should be fun.

Instagram Style
Hirshleifers is such a hidden gem and my job is to expose it as the jewel that it is. My day-to-day usually involves shooting pieces for our website, Instagram, and blog—I’m also basically the in-house model so there are days when I’m trying on clothes all day. When it comes to our Instagram, I notice that people are really into labels—I’ll post a Louboutin and even when it’s nothing special, that red sole will still get a thousand likes. Same with the Alexander McQueen skull scarves. Whereas then I’ll post a really sick Céline scarf and it won’t even break 100 likes. I guess you have to know your audience, especially if what you’re after is user engagement.

For my personal Instagram, I try not to think about it too much. If I really like what I’m wearing, I’ll post my little selfie in my hallway. But if I think too much about it then I second-guess myself and I feel dumb. Instagram, when it’s personal, has to be done on a whim for me. I’ve actually gotten styling gigs through friends who have seen me on Instagram.

Contrast Is Key
I’m all about contradictions—I love, for example, a really feminine flirty skirt or a little lace dress with sneakers. Or if I’m wearing boyfriend jeans and a T-shirt, I’ll wear really sharp oxfords. I rely a lot on statement accessories. I’m obsessed with these Dries Van Noten shoes that have cowrie shell straps—one strap is red snakeskin-stamped leather, with a wooden sole. They’re such a standout shoe, but I wear them with everything. Another recent go-to is these Sophia Webster heels that are pretty crazy—they’re black and white with pink racing stripes. They look amazing with just a plain white T-shirt and jeans.

During the workweek I wear a pretty big bag because I have to carry my laptop: The bag I’m carrying right now is from Ready-made, a Japanese company that uses all U.S. Army recycled materials. It looks like a Birkin but it’s made from all this vintage army material and in a way, it’s so much cooler—I Googled some of the sayings on mine, and it turned out that it was made from material from a warship in World War II.

Wearing H&M to Chloé
Then there are days when I’m going to market appointment after market appointment, and there, I’m representing Hirshleifers so I try to wear things that are more current instead of just my favorite shirt from however long ago. During market week recently, I wore this off-the-shoulder blue top that I really love. It’s from H&M, if you can believe it. I was literally stopped at every appointment—I felt so bad, I was in Chloé telling them about my shirt from H&M. But when it’s good, it’s good! I wore it with these Zara wide-leg gaucho pants in a baby-blue denim.

All day I’m surrounded by all these really amazing clothes—but let’s face it, I can’t afford everything. So I’ll do my research and see what’s out there, what my best option is. If anything is too much of a designer knock-off, I won’t buy it.

During Fashion Week I have access to a lot more things that I wouldn’t normally get to wear because brands will lend me: I got to wear this awesome Chanel tweed dress that was my favorite thing ever; and another day I wore a full Céline look. But if you feel comfortable in something it exudes confidence, and sometimes actually just a basic outfit will do that best. Recently during Fashion Week, I had shows all day and then I went to a Kanye West concert, and then to the Stella McCartney after-party. I wore a black blazer, boyfriend jeans, and comfy Chelsea boots—very laid-back. It wasn’t that special, but I felt very cool in it. You know how some clothes you put on and you kind of have a “pimp walk” in them? That makes all the difference.

Animal Prints: What The Wild Things Wear

What do you think of, when you picture animal print undies? Maybe a go-go dancer or a wild ex? The Underwear Expert, for one, certainly doesn’t picture pairs that take on actual wildlife fur and feathers in their prints – but there are more animal prints out there in the underwear world than just the ones you may see in Magic Mike XXL. Some pairs have patterns and prints featuring the actual animals versus the animals’ stripes or spots – a few even utilize a bold graphic print for a unique, asymmetrical look.

In our exclusive animal prints photoshoot, we highlight 11 pairs of animal print underthings. The Smuggling Duds Cattled Boxer, which you may remember from our April Fool’s shoot, is our personal favorite. The pink-accented cow print is, by far, the most “fun” pair.

Another cute look is Male Power’s Animal Wonder Thong. It’s interactive, too – just try and find the hidden leopard face in the thong!

Funky Trunks and Mitch Dowd have more realistic animal looks. The Funky Trunks Bad Boy Boxer includes a pop-art design that features a bulldog wearing a cop’s hat. Mitch Dowd’s Stripe Loose Fit Knit Boxer has a cartoon monkey on a light blue background.

Croota’s Tiger Contrast Boxer Brief features a white tiger that wraps around the right leg all the way over to the rear. The boxer brief has a tiny kangaroo in the front, which pays homage to Croota’s Australian roots. We can’t resist a bit of nostalgia!

What kind of animal would you like featured on your underwear? Do any of these looks make you feel like a sexy beast? Let us know!

London Men’s Wear Designer Nicomede Talavera Puts Brand on Ice

TALAVERA TAKES A BREAK: Nicomede Talavera is putting his brand on hold with immediate effect. He will not be showing or selling a spring-summer 2016 collection, nor will his fall-winter 2015 collection be available for retail.
“Due to personal circumstance I have taken the decision to not show a collection for SS16, and to take time to now decide how to channel my creativity going forward,” the designer said in a statement Friday.
“I am extremely grateful for all of the support and belief over the last few years and for everybody who has been part of this journey. It has been an incredible experience and learning process,” he added.
Talavera graduated from the MA fashion course at Central Saint Martins in 2013, and founded his label soon after. His stockists include Dover Street Market, Joyce, Opening Ceremony, LN-CC, Space Mue and Machine-A.
He has received support from Topman’s Man showcase, and taken part in the Fashion East collective presentations during London Collections: Men. Earlier this year, he was the recipient of sponsorship and mentoring from the Center for Fashion Enterprise in London.

Patriotic Clothes (That Aren’t Cheesy) To Wear This Fourth Of July

canva 2

Just like fireworks and hot dogs, festive clothing is essential for celebrating the Fourth of July. But let’s face it, Independence Day and fashion don’t exactly go hand in hand. You’re more likely to associate the holiday with cheesy graphic tees than a cute dress you might actually wear when the weekend is through.

Upon further investigation, though, it turns out that there are, in fact, ways to rock stars and stripes in style. In fact, with so many fashionable, affordable options to choose from, you’ll be all set for every day of the long weekend.

Just be careful with that mustard.

What the Most Stylish Women Wear 9 to 5: Meet Whitney Tingle and Danielle Duboise of Sakara Life

sakara life

Whitney Tingle and Danielle Duboise, cofounders of the organic food delivery service Sakara Life, might just be their own best advertisement: The preternaturally photogenic, blonde, and trim duo don’t just look healthy and happy, they glow. “We eat the Sakara food every single day,” says Duboise. “We talk a lot about the idea of something tasting pretty. It’s one thing to eat really well and it’s another thing to make sure you enjoy eating well.” Since its launch in 2011, Sakara Life’s deliciously good-for-you meals have built up a cult following—so much so that Duboise and Tingle recently expanded the business to Los Angeles, with more surely to come. While they’re definitely ambitious when it comes to Sakara Life, these entrepreneurs are certainly not afraid to have fun—a dichotomy that plays out in their working wardrobe. From swapping clothes, to taking risks and dressing like a boss, Tingle and Duboise give us the scoop on what they wear nine to five.

Dressing the Part
Whitney Tingle: We just moved offices and we have a team that’s growing really fast, so every day we start with a check-in with our team. We’re in the office every day and checking in with all the different departments. Our roles are really around business development—making decisions, asking questions . . .
Danielle Duboise: . . . Putting out fires; maybe creating a little fire!
Whitney: I used to work on Wall Street in a corporate environment and I was really confined in terms of what I could wear. It was a lot of suits, and things like that. Having our own start-up right now, I can wear whatever I want and I take advantage of that. I use it as a form of self-expression: wake up in the morning and just feel whatever I’m feeling and throw something together. But I still have a lot of pieces from working on Wall Street, so I’ll mix them in: I might wear high-waisted black jeans with a crop top and then throw on a classic blazer. It’s business but business-sexy.
Duboise: I think it’s really important when you’re in start-up mode to dress for the occasion and take it seriously, even when you’re busy and you could really just be in your PJs and yoga clothes. What I’ve found is that when you feel good in your clothes, it changes your energy. Our office is full of girls, and we have to set the pace. I love Mara Hoffman jumpsuits because I only have to pull one thing and I really love Cushnie et Ochs when I’m feeling a little more serious. I feel like a badass businesswoman in those jumpsuits.
Tingle: One thing about Danielle is she kind of likes to make people feel a little uncomfortable. Sometimes she’ll wear things that are a bit weird—she’ll wear, say, a statement piece from Moschino to the office.
Duboise: Whitney wore a fanny pack to the office the other day! But I think that’s also part of setting the energy of the office, you know, to encourage thinking outside the norm and making sure everything is done with intention and creativity. Plus, we’re from Sedona, Arizona, so we kind of have that hippie vibe. We wear a lot of cowboy boots!
Tingle: I wore the fanny pack with high-waisted black jeans from Topshop, with a vintage belt that has silver conchos on it and a tank; a sort of Southwestern vibe.
Duboise: It’s a hippie vibe but we dress it up a bit. I haven’t worn flats in years.
Tingle: Even our flip-flops have heels in them!
Duboise: I’m a platform girl. I just need my shoes to be comfortable and have height. I have a pair from 3.1 Phillip Lim that are really comfortable; they have a chain around the ankle and are really cute.

Tingle: Some days we have to go up to our kitchen and work with our people there—we’re currently under construction so we’re up there a lot making decisions. I think it’s important that the kitchen understands the brand just as much as the girls in the office, so we typically don’t change to go up there, even though we’re sometimes inventing new recipes and getting dirty.
Duboise: Whitney got spirulina on her white pants the other day! Even so, I agree: It’s important that the kitchen understands the vibe and the inspiration about it all, so the only thing that changes when we’re in there is we have to wear hairnets.
Tingle: Otherwise we’re just in our regular office gear, which, when it’s hot out, is usually flowy pants and a tube top. The tube top is great because you don’t have to wear a bra. The less to worry about, the better.
Duboise: I just got these cool pants from a vintage store that are bright, bright blue and are perfect for the heat; they’re literally two pieces of fabric sewn together with ties in the front and back. We both wear a lot of vintage and go to What Comes Around Goes Around a lot. I’d say half my closet is vintage. I really love pieces that have a history, especially jewelry. I wear a lot of my mother’s and grandmother’s pieces.
Tingle: We’re also really into stones and crystals—things that come from the earth. We’re friends with Bliss Lau and her jewelry is really sexy. I wear a gold quartz ring from her everyday.
Duboise: I have this chain bra from her—but I don’t wear it everyday!
Tingle: In terms of bags, the only thing we ever carry are the Sakara Life totes. I haven’t had a real bag in years.
Duboise: It’s free advertising!
Tingle: We definitely keep in mind how our own personal images reflect the brand.  But I think what we try to do is be as much as ourselves as possible.
Duboise: And as much thought as we put into things, we’re also the girls who will show up with a wrinkle in our pants and messy hair.
Tingle: That’s kind of how our brand is too: We’re a premium luxury brand, but we’re definitely a little messy and totally approachable.

Partners Who Dress Together, Stay Together
Duboise: When we have important meetings or events to go to, we typically like to match in all white. We started wearing white a lot when we started the company just kind of the brand color. If we’re going to meet new investors we want to make a strong impression. So we show up in all white and looking sharp. I’ll wear a white blazer with these wide-leg pants and a white linen shirt that’s cropped and boxy. And Whitney’s usually in skinny jeans and a blazer.
Tingle: For the launch of our L.A. office, we wore matching white silk dresses from Shareen that had a really low cut and a halter tie. They were so low we had to wear a bikini underneath—good thing it was a pool party! For evening, we pull a lot from Naeem Khan; he has amazing stuff. I just wore a sparkly sequin dress from him the other night.
Duboise: It’s bad, sometimes we’ll show to the office in the exact same thing and we’re like . . . oh. It happens all the time. We’re also basically the same size and shoe so we share a lot of things.
Tingle: Sometimes it’s not by choice. I have a pair of shoes that I loaned Danielle ages ago and she still has not returned them. I think it’s rubbed off in the girls in the office. We’ll leave some clothes at the office in case we need to change—someone borrowed one of my cardigans and I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting that back!
Duboise: That’s the nice thing about having an office full of women. It’s basically a big closet.

What the Most Stylish Women Wear 9 to 5: Meet Fashion Consultant Roopal Patel

roopal patel 9 to 5

Fashion consultant Roopal Patel’s resumé reads like a who’s who of the luxury retail world: Her stints include serving as senior fashion director at Bergdorf Goodman, senior fashion director for Neiman Marcus and the executive fashion director at Moda Operandi. Now that she’s on her own at Roopal Patel Consulting, Patel is bringing her hard-won expertise to an array of clients. And as a mentor to designers in the CFDA, she believes in spreading the wealth of knowledge; recently she hosted a Pay it Forward dinner, bringing together fledgling and established designers to build a strong support system. “The more information designers can have and the more connections that are made for them, the better they are,” she says. “In the end, it helps all of us.” Patel’s philosophy is in sharp contrast to fashion’s stereotypical reputation. “People always say to me, ‘Oh my god, you work in such a cutthroat industry,’ ” says Patel. “Actually, fashion is a very nurturing industry. We take care of our own and we support each other.” Here, Patel tell us her work wardrobe philosophy.

Up for a Challenge
Most of my day is dedicated to meeting and seeing clients. I usually start my day with a workout and then I might have a breakfast meeting and then run to the office for a few hours, then a lunch meeting, and then I might head to showrooms and walk through a collection. I try to have a day-to-evening component to my outfit, because I often have to meet clients for cocktails or go to an event.

Right now I’m obsessed this Altuzarra striped shirtdress. I could live in that. It’s really beautiful to wear during the day. With my Mansur Gavriel bag and Céline wedges, it’s a little bit more work-oriented. For evening, I’ll swap the wedges for great Alaïa sandals, and carry a graphic Celine clutch—easy changes that allow you to feel more dressed up. I also love Proenza Schouler’s long skirts with pleats or fringe because you can wear them casually in the day with a short jacket and a chunky sneaker or you can dress them up with a strappy heel and a great leather jacket.

I have two sides to my personality and fashion supports that—one side is very minimal and the other side is colorful and vibrant and loves prints. I can wear a superchic white crisp tuxedo shirt from Céline with Céline black tuxedo pants and feel really confident and professional without standing out too much. But when I go out at night I like to be a little bit more daring, so I’ll wear a bold stripe from Rosie Assoulin or one of her floral patterns—you know, have fun with it, which is what I think fashion is about. Fashion influences me, or rather it challenges me, to wear novelty items that I might not otherwise. For instance, that Céline fringe sweater—I still haven’t figured out how to wear that but I’m up for the challenge.

Different Cities, Different Clothes
I travel a lot for work—sometimes I’m meeting with clients in Paris, Los Angeles, or London, and when I’m there my schedule is much more hectic. No day is the same. Even if I plan my day, it’s so unpredictable. I have a tendency to overpack because it’s been my experience that you can be called to a great cocktail party at the last minute or have three extra days added to your original itinerary. So more is better. I like to have a couple classic go-to dresses and blazers. I love a good white jean from Rag & Bone—I always travel in a white jean for some reason, with a great black sweater or black turtleneck from The Row that’s cozy and a little blazer. And then I take Céline espadrilles in leopard or high-top Vans.

I absolutely dress differently in different cities. In New York City, I tend to dress up with heels and a great dress. When you go to L.A. the vibe is a bit more mellow and low-key. The culture is much more jeans and T-shirt, which is still a little foreign for me being a New Yorker. So in L.A., I always take my Vans out, and I might pair those with an Isabel Marant miniskirt or a little sweater or a denim jacket or a cargo jacket—very relaxed and casual. In London or Paris, it’s not as fashion. That’s where my minimal fashion sensibility comes in. It’s a bit more classic, a bit more tailored.
