When second son Alexander Valentine loses his brother to an assassin’s arrow, he discovers that his family protects an ancient secret and reluctantly finds himself at the center of the final battle of a war that was supposed to have ended two thousand years ago. Pursued by the dark minions of an ancient enemy, Alexander flees to the mountain city of Glen Morillian where he discovers that he is the heir to the throne of Ruatha, one of the Seven Isles, but before he can claim the throne he must recover the ancient Thinblade. Seven were forged by the first Sovereign of the Seven Isles and bound to the bloodline of each of the seven Island Kings in exchange for their loyalty to the Old Law. Each sword is as long as a man’s arm, as wide as a man’s thumb and so thin it can’t be seen when viewed from the edge. Thinblade is the story of Alexander’s quest to find the ancient sword, claim the throne of Ruatha and raise an army to stand against the enemy that has awoken to claim dominion over all of the Seven Isles.

Publish Date: July 24, 1992

Publisher: The Project Gutenberg

The War of the Worlds is a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells, first published in 1898. It is the first-person narrative of the adventures of an unnamed protagonist and his brother in Surrey and London as Earth is invaded by Martians. Written between 1895 and 1897, it is one of the earliest stories that detail a conflict between mankind and an extraterrestrial race. The novel is one of the most commented-on works in the science fiction canon. The War of the Worlds has two parts, Book One: The Coming of the Martians and Book Two: The Earth under the Martians. The narrator, a philosophically-inclined author, struggles to return to his wife while seeing the Martians lay waste to southern England. Book One also imparts the experience of his brother, also unnamed, who describes events in the capital and escapes the Martians by boarding a ship near Tillingham, on the Essex coast.

An angel comes to Earth in this fantastical tale by H. G. Wells When a fallen angel appears in the skies of southern England, the vicar of a small town mistakes the winged being’s dazzling plumage for that of a bird and shoots him down. This is only the first misfortune to befall “Mr. Angel,” as he comes to be known. “Neither the Angel of religious feeling nor the Angel of popular belief,” this celestial visitor quickly draws the ire of the village folk. But as time goes on, the angel becomes more and more human. His wings atrophy, and much to his surprise, he finds himself falling in love.   The master of fantasy literature, H. G. Wells has spun a brilliantly imagined tale in The Wonderful Visit .   This ebook has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices. The son of a professional cricketer and a lady’s maid, H. G. Wells (1866–1946) served apprenticeships as a draper and a chemist’s assistant before winning a scholarship to the prestigious Normal School of Science in London. While he is best remembered for his groundbreaking science fiction novels, including The Time Machine , The War of the Worlds , The Invisible Man , and The Island of Doctor Moreau , Wells also wrote extensively on politics and social matters and was one of the foremost public intellectuals of his day.

Google Celebrates Ida B. Wells On Her 153rd Birthday [PHOTO]

After getting the side-eye for Google Maps being so racist, Google is ready to be forgiven. The search engine put Ida B. Wells on the main page in honor of the celebrated activist and journalist’s 153rd birthday.

Screen Shot 2015-07-16 at 8.48.02 AM

From Google:

Ida B. Wells was a voracious reader, and had devoured the entirety of Shakespeare and Dickens before she turned twenty. A gifted writer and orator, she was unabashedly candid–in her diaries, she describes the heroine of Les Miserables as “sweet, lovely and all that, but utterly without depth… fit only for love, sunshine [and] flowers.”

Such sweetness was simply not her style. Fearless and uncompromising, she was a fierce opponent of segregation and wrote prolifically on the civil injustices that beleaguered her world. By twenty-five she was editor of the Memphis-based Free Speech and Headlight, and continued to publicly decry inequality even after her printing press was destroyed by a mob of locals who opposed her message.

In 1894, while living in Chicago, she became a paid correspondent for the broadly distributed Daily Inter Ocean, and in 1895 she assumed full control of the Chicago Conservator. As Matt Cruickshank illustrates in today’s Doodle, Wells also travelled and lectured widely, bringing her fiery and impassioned rhetoric all over the world.

Today, for her 153rd birthday, we salute Ida B. Wells with a Doodle that commemorates her journalistic mettle and her unequivocal commitment to the advancement of civil liberties.

Wells was born a slave in Mississippi in 1862 and is among the earliest activists to lead, what we now know as Civil Rights movement. She died in 1931 at age 68.

Franklin Graham Moves Money Out of Wells Fargo Bank Because Of ‘Moral Decay’

Franklin Graham is calling on Christians everywhere to boycott LGBT-friendly companies after Wells Fargo bank released an ad that clashed with his personal beliefs.

On Friday the prominent evangelist announced that the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), of which he is president and CEO, is moving its accounts from Wells Fargo to another bank due to the bank’s recent ad featuring a lesbian couple.

Graham also posted on Facebook, encouraging Christians to use their spending power to take a stand against LGBT-friendly companies. “Tiffany’s started advertising wedding rings for gay couples. Wells Fargo bank is using a same-sex couple in their advertising. And there are more. But it has dawned on me that we don’t have to do business with them,” the evangelist wrote.

Have you ever asked yourself–how can we fight the tide of moral decay that is being crammed down our throats by big…

Posted by Franklin Graham on Friday, June 5, 2015

“At Wells Fargo, serving every customer is core to our vision and values,” Wells Fargo spokesperson Christina Kolbjornsen told The Charlotte Observer on Monday in response to Graham’s post. “Diversity and inclusion are foundational to who we are as a company. Our advertising content reflects our company’s values and represents the diversity of the communities we serve.”

Religion News Service writer Eliel Cruz noted the irony of Graham making his statement on Facebook, a company that openly supports gay marriage. Facebook is just one of many pro-LGBT companies, the long list of which includes Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Nike and countless others.

Graham has long spoken out against homosexuality and same-sex marriage — and appears to be putting his money where his mouth with this recent announcement.

In a March 2013 interview with Charlotte Observer, the evangelist went on a tirade against same-sex couples adopting, saying, “You can adopt a child into a marriage, but you can also recruit children into your cause. I believe in protecting children, OK? From exploitation, all exploitations.”

Graham is no stranger to forcing beliefs on people, so perhaps he was speaking from experience. But whether he’s planning on abandoning Google and Facebook to promote the anti-gay cause stands to be seen.

The Time Traveller, a dreamer obsessed with traveling through time, builds himself a time machine and, much to his surprise, travels over 800,000 years into the future. He lands in the year 802701: the world has been transformed by a society living in apparent harmony and bliss, but as the Traveler stays in the future he discovers a hidden barbaric and depraved subterranean class. Wells's transparent commentary on the capitalist society was an instant bestseller and launched the time-travel genre.   The Time Machine inspired the international bestseller The Map of Time by Félix J. Palma. As a gift to our readers, we are including the first three chapters of The Map of Time in this ebook edition.
